Uthmaan Bin Saaleh and Ahmad Bin Saeed Ad-daarimee (rahimahumallaah) said:

Uthmaan narrated to us saying: ”A man came to (Imaam) Maalik (rahimahullaah) and asked him about an affair of the religion, so he said to him: ”The Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) said such and such.” So the man said: ”what is your view?” (Imaam) Maalik said to him: ”And let those who oppose the Messenger’s (Muhammad) commandment (i.e. his Sunnah legal ways, orders, acts of worship, statements, etc.) (among the sects) beware; lest some Fitnah (disbelief, trials, afflictions, earthquakes, killing, overpowered by a tyrant, etc.) befall them or a painful torment be inflicted on them.” [Soorah An-Noor: Ayah: 63] [Hilyatul Awliyaa: 6/326]

Ibn Wahb (rahimahullaah) narrated that he heard Maalik (rahimahullaah) saying: ”When a man praises himself, his magnificence leaves him.” [Taareekhul Islaam: 11/328]

Ibn Wahb (rahimahullaah) narrated from Maalik (rahimahullaah) who said:

”It has reached me that no one abstains from the unnecessary pleasures of this world and is fearful of Allaah, except that he speaks with wisdom.” [Siyar A’laam Nubulaa:8/109]
