[1] Purification of the Soul – Shaikhul Islaam ibn Taymiyyah

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah (rahimahullah) said: How do you purify your soul? By abandoning the forbidden things and fulfilling the commandments.

Allaah (The Most High) said:

قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَنْ تَزَكَّىٰ

وَذَكَرَ اسْمَ رَبِّهِ فَصَلَّىٰ

“Indeed whosoever purifies himself shall achieve success; And remembers (glorifies) the Name of his Lord, and prays (five compulsory prayers and Nawafil additional prayers).’’ [Soorah Al-A’laa: Aayaat 14-15]

And Allaah (The Most High) said:

قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَنْ زَكَّاهَا

وَقَدْ خَابَ مَنْ دَسَّاهَا

”Indeed he succeeds who purifies his ownself. And indeed he fails who corrupts his ownself.”
[Soorah Ash-Shams: Aayaat 9-10]

Sufyaan Ibn Uyaynah, Qataadah and others besides them said: ”Indeed successful is the one who purifies it through obedience to Allaah and righteous actions.”
