Sufyan bin Uyaynah (رحمه الله) said:
”If my morning is like that of the foolish and my night is like that of the ignorant, then what will I do with the knowledge I wrote down?”¹
This is a testimony of what occurred on the 8th August 2014 in the Hadramout Yemeni Restaurant (off Wilmslow Road) at around 3PM.
On Friday the 8th of August after having attended Salatul-Juma at al-Markaz as-Salafi (Manchester), I (Khidr Malik) and other brothers decided to travel to Birmingham with the sole purpose of visiting the brothers at the Salafi Masjid for the sake of Allah, and showing our guest and elder Waleed Falatah (a Madinah graduate who is currently doing his PhD) the Salafi Maraakiz around the UK.
On the way to Birmingham, we decided to stop and eat at a local restaurant before continuing our journey. We placed our order and followed the waiter upstairs to the dining area. Having forgotten to order the drinks I (Khidr) left the room and subsequently made my way downstairs again to order the drinks but was told to just get the drinks upstairs, as there was also a refrigerator present with cold drinks.
On my way back, I saw a man blocking the entrance of the dining area making it difficult for me to get past. He had his back to me, I gently but swiftly looked for a small gap to glide and brush through in order to get back to my place where the brothers were sitting. Notice, that at this point, I did not have a clue, who this man was.
Having made my way past, squeezing through with minimal contact, this individual started to shout extremely loudly, in a harsh aggressive manner “Oi! Oi! Come back! Come back!” as if to make it appear that I had done something terribly wrong (quite apparently it was deemed completely and utterly unacceptable for me to have even barely made contact in brushing past! Perhaps I was required to have sought written permission to walk past the “Shaykh”, perhaps his newly ironed garment was fractionally creased as I brushed past?! Perhaps it was deemed a disrespect to the “Shaykh” for anyone to even dare have the audacity to try to squeeze past, maybe he is used to people waiting until HE MOVES first then, and only then, they can go?! Or, perhaps it was just complete and utter downright and stupendous foolishness from this apparent “Shaykh”…yes that is about right, any sane individual would agree to that, subhaanAllah).
Soon I recognised his voice and appearance, and it was none other than the one whom Shaykh Ahmad an-Najmi (رحمه الله) included by way of his statement² to be amongst Ahlul Bidah [i.e. (Abu Usamah adh-Dhahabi)] due to his own actions; someone well known for blatant falsehood and defending the figureheads of Bid’ah, such as the likes of Ma’ribi, Halabi and Maghraawi. So as soon as he shouted and screamed for me to come back, and Allah knows best what he felt I did wrong (it is mind-boggling to this day…squeezing past someone and brushing them as you go through…criminal act? Quite clearly against the “Shaykh” it is), I immediately chose to ignore him upon realising the foolishness of his ranting and raving at an absolutely ridiculously non-existent issue!
However, what followed was something I and the other brothers present could not comprehend, and was quite frankly shocking, a stunning display of aggressive verbal provocation, and physical threats. Abu Usamah adh-Dhahabi charged at me to where I and the brothers were sitting, the behaviour he exhibited was of a hoodlum trying to intimidate his intended victim, not only did he display verbal aggression, he also resorted to physically prodding, and poking his finger into my chest and head, using force, he clearly offered me to fight him, a crowd of on-lookers from the general public were witness to his thuggish behaviour. All of us felt that this situation was surreal, extreme, and it was just like being attacked randomly by some maniac, the fact it was this deviant Abu Usamah was drowned out by this display of wanton violence.
The first thought that occurred to my mind was that this might be a case of mistaken identity?! Maybe he thought I was someone else he had met in the past and had problems with?! How else could squeezing past someone and brushing through CAUSE SOMEONE TO BEHAVE LIKE A STREET THUG?! After the brothers and I told him to go away numerous times, and even asked the waiter to take him away physically, he continued TO POKE HIS FINGER INTO MY HEAD.
Abu Usamah then said in an aggressive tone: “You guys have Hizbiyyah with you!” Please be aware at this point he accused us of Hizbiyyah without even knowing us at all! When asked again, and again that he should leave, and let us be at peace, he responded very aggressively: “Come here and make me move!”. THAT WAS WHAT THE “SHAYKH” SAID!!
Abu Usamah continued to poke my head and moved over to my brother to continue his physical threat to which my brother told him not to dare touch him in this bullying manner again. Abu Usamah replied: “What are you going to do, get the feds on me? Get Barack Obama and Cameron on me? Come outside and I will deal with you.” And the shocking part of this incident is that I have never seen Abu Usamah nor has he ever seen me.
He continued with his irate intimidating behaviour, at this point I (Khidr), my brother Khawer, and Ibrahim were the only ones aware of his background, and the true condition of this man, and were well aware of the obstinate callers to Hizbiyyah, and the Mubtadia in the West. Our brothers Waleed and Abdul-Azeez (visitors from Saudi Arabia) were bamboozled as to why anyone with a beard and a thobe would approach other Muslims actively provoking a fight with them, saying: “Come outside and I will deal with you!!”…YES, THAT IS WHAT THE “SHAYKH” SAID! Maa shaa Allah, a graduate of Madeenah!? A supposed “Shaykh”?! It is actually more saddening than ridiculously hilarious from a supposed “religious role-model”.
Again, we would like the reader to pay attention to the fact that this started off with SIMPLE & GENTLE squeezing past someone who was in actual fact, blocking the pathway to the entrance! The kind of thing every one of us has experienced or done time and time again, only most of us probably managed to negotiate squeezing past someone without necessitating the next world war because the person you squeezed past happens to be a Madeenah graduate turned “Shaykh”, who clearly deserves a far greater degree of respect than for anyone to even consider such an atrocious and horrific action (of squeezing past)!
At this point Khawer whispered to the brother Waleed, that Al-‘Allaamah Ahmad Bin Yahyah An-Najmi (رحمه الله) stated that this man is to be treated like Ahlul Bidah! Abu Usamah instantly interjected by shouting, “What Shaykh Ahmad an-Najmi?!”, waving his hand up with a gesture indicating disgust with his facial expression.
At this point, he continued to invade our personal space, and disrupt us from eating our food, his body language was very clear! He wanted a fight! Our brother Ibrahim continued to ask him another three times to stop and to go away. Abu Usamah insulted our brother, and elder Ibrahim: “What! You big mouth!” (Yes, that is what the “SHAYKH” said…quite the Shaykh indeed!) Clearly displaying in the state of mind he was in, a total disrespect for anyone that got in his way! Even our elder and teacher at the Islamic University of Madeenah Waleed had also humbly requested that this thug leave things be, but there was no positive response.
It was crystal clear to us all, and Ibrahim knew that this man wanted a physical fight and Abu Usamah was not going to leave without it! Ibrahim stood up to him, and the situation got heated, the people, those who were sitting in the restaurant minding their own business and eating their food – and staff working at the restaurant -, tried to physically stop this thug in a thobe. He started to bully us first, and then tried to intimidate Ibrahim, asking him for a fight outside: “You and me outside!” (Yes, once again, the “Shaykh” said that..) Ibrahim, however, stood up to Abu Usamah, hence upon realising Ibrahim standing up to defend himself, he switched tactics, and verbally added to the end of his demand: “Let’s go outside, I’ll talk to you“ knowing that Ibrahim was not going to tolerate his thuggish intimidation, and things would become serious. Innocent bystanders, waiters, people who came to enjoy their day had to create a physical barrier pushing Abu Usamah out of the room. It was at this point after Abu Usamah had displayed total disrespect for the group, and challenged Ibrahim to fight, that Waleed had took Ibrahim by the arms asking him to leave it, and sit back in his place, Ibrahim acknowledged the good stature of our brother, and out of respect, and good conduct followed the request of Waleed.
Alhamdulil-laah after all this commotion, the foolish man of Bid’ah decided to back off, performed wudhu as we assumed from the water dropping from his face, in any case, he washed himself. We assume that he did so in order to control his raging temper, and calm down from his thuggish, and hooligan-like behaviour. After the situation calmed down he returned and cheaply apologised to the common people in the restaurant for having disturbed the people whilst they were eating – and rightly so!!! And Allah’s Aid is sought! However, he neither apologised to the Salafi brothers for threatening them nor did he apologise for physically poking, prodding and insulting us. This is expected because Abu Usamah has still not apologised to Shaykh Rabee’ (حفظه الله) for slandering and lying against him; so who are we in comparison to Al-‘Allaamah Rabee’ Bin Haadi. If Abu Usamah can comfortably violate the honour of one of the mountains of the Sunnah in this era and carries on defending the Mubtadia, then indeed to violate the honour of other Salafis would be a much easier task for him.
We informed Waleed, who is currently studying his PhD at the Islamic University of Madeenah, that this individual graduated from the University of Madeenah, from an outsider’s point of view, his jaw dropped out of shock! He said he has never witnessed something like this from anyone attributing himself to knowledge; surely a caller to Allah should know better?! Someone who literally, and I repeat LITERALLY had just given a sermon before Salatul-Juma’aa at Masjid al-Furqan in Manchester an hour ago, and then wanted to beat up Muslims for no valid given reason! (Other than the fact that clearly it was a gross misconduct in behaviour for any average Muslim to even dare consider violating and trespassing into the two metre zone surrounding the “Shaykh” without his express permission!!) It was also conveyed to us by Waleed that he was actually scared by this traumatic experience that he has never witnessed anything like it in the land of Tawheed.
Maybe Abu Usamah – apologies – “Shaykh” Abu Usamah should listen to his lecture again entitled:
“The Evils of the Gangster Lifestyle.”
The ayah comes to mind:
يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لِمَ تَقُولُونَ مَا لَا تَفْعَلُونَ كَبُرَ مَقْتًا عِندَ اللَّهِ أَن تَقُولُوا مَا لَا تَفْعَلُونَ
O you who believe! Why do you say that which you do not do? Most hateful it is with Allah that you say that which you do not do. [Surah As-Saff, Verse 2-3]
After all of this vile thuggish behaviour (threatening Muslims and inviting them for a fight) he gave a lecture in Birmingham the same night. The theme of the conference was “love”. Ma-sha-Allah?! Yes, this love is only reserved for the hizbiyyoon, and those who are deceived by him.
The following day we returned to the restaurant and spoke to the waiter who was present, to clarify what exactly happened. He said: “This man (Abu Usamah) behaved like a child!”
Again this clearly demonstrates that Abu Usamah is a person marked by two personalities, one in front of the cameras in order to gather numbers for his hizbi employers and associates, and another one behind the cameras, off-screen so to speak!
So the next time you happen to bump into this amazing gangster “Shaykh”, please be advised that if you dare even consider trespassing into his exclusive VIP by-invitation-only two metre zone of air-space surrounding him, that you do so at your own peril…you have been warned. We are regrettably unable to inform you of the correct procedure if you wish to walk past the “Shaykh” at close proximity, whether that requires a written request a week in advance(?), or it may simply just be illegal altogether, in which case you will have to wait until the “Shaykh” decides to move or find an alternate route to your destination, please be patient and remember, he is the “Shaykh” and you are a no-one, and the “Shaykh” therefore has the exclusive priority rights to all the space he needs to stretch and relax and block the entrance even if that is at the expense of you not being permitted to squeeze past.
Allah (The Most High) is the witness to this testimony. We ask Allah to guide Abu Usamah or protect us from his falsehood, vile thuggish behaviour and affiliation with the people of Bid’ah and Hizbiyyah. Aameen.

² The noble scholar, the Mufti of the South, Shaykh Ahmad an-Najmi (رحمه الله) said regarding Abu Usamah: “موقفكم منه كموقفكم من أهل البدعة , أعرض عنه و اتركه”
“Your position with him is the same as your position with the people of innovation. Turn away from him and abandon him.”
