Our Salaf: al-Hasan al-Basri

It was said to Al-Hasan Al-Basri (rahimahullaah): Indeed, such and such person does not admonish anyone and he says, “I am afraid of saying something that I do not do.” Al-Hasan said: ”So when will he do what he says? Shaytaan desires to overcome this person, so that he neither enjoin good upon anyone nor forbid anyone from evil.”

Our Salaf: Aamir Bin Abdi Qais

Alqamah Ibn Murthid (rahimahullaah) said: Aamir Bin Abdi Qais (rahimahullaah) wept when death came upon him; so it was said to him, “Do you despair because of death, so you weep?” He said, “Why should I not weep and who is more worthy of that than I?! By Allaah! Neither am I weeping out of despairing because of death nor out of eagerness for your dunyah and being desirous of it; but I weep due to the thirst of the midday heat (i.e. will miss  fasting) and the night prayer during winter.”
