[1] Tarbiyah [Cultivation] – A Praiseworthy Behaviour Related to Religious & Worldly Favours (Bestowed Upon You by Allaah) & You Share With People
Allaah (The Most High) said:
وَلَا تَمْنُن تَسْتَكْثِرُ
”And give not a thing in order to have more.”
[Surah Al-Mud-dath’thir Ayah 6]
Imaam Ibnul Qayyim (rahimahullaah) stated about this Ayah: The Mufassiroon among the Salaf and those who came after them said (that this means): Do not give (something) and seek something more from it – seeking through your gift more than you gave. [1]
Imaam As-Sadi (rahimahullaah) said about this Ayah:
That is: Do not brag about what you give the people from the religious and worldly blessings (conferred upon you by Allaah), and thus you boast about that favour and consider yourself as being more virtuous than them due to generosity. Rather be good to the people as much as you can, (seek to) forget your (acts of) kindness towards them and do not seek after its reward except from Allaah (The Most High).
