[40] Excerpts from Shaikh Rabee’s Book Titled ‘Marhaban Yaa Taalibal Ilm’ – [Who Are The People of Sound Knowledge And Understanding?]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

Allaah stated regarding the distinguishing characteristics of the ulama- the great difference between them and the people of ignorance and misguidance:

Is one who is obedient to Allah, prostrating himself or standing (in prayer) during the hours of the night, fearing the Hereafter and hoping for the Mercy of his Lord (like one who disbelieves)? Say: “Are those who know equal to those who know not?” It is only men of understanding who will remember (i.e. get a lesson from Allah’s Signs and Verses). [Surah Az-Zumar’ Aayah 9]

Firstly, before mentioning knowledge, Allaah mentioned deeds, [belief in His Aayaat, fulfilment of His commands], fear of the afterlife and hoping for His reward, which includes both deeds of the heart and the limbs. Then Allaah mentioned that the reason behind this effort of theirs- this enthusiasm that is connected to lofty manners in their worship of Allaah- is not due to ignorance and desires, rather its basis is their knowledge of who Allaah is. Allaah said:

Say: “Are those who know equal to those who know not?” It is only men of understanding who will remember (i.e. get a lesson from Allah’s Signs and Verses). [Surah Az-Zumar’ Aayah 9]

Sound knowledge and deeds is not possessed except by those with sound intellect and understanding- never can it be acquired through thoughtlessness and ignorance. Therefore, O brothers! Pursue knowledge. Thereafter, the aim behind knowledge is to act, for indeed Allaah severely dispraised those who have knowledge but do not act.

Do Not Oppress your Family, Your Wife or Others – Shaykh ‘Abdul Azīz b. Bāz

Do Not Oppress your Family, Your Wife or Others. – Shaykh ‘Abdul Azīz b. Bāz

Oppression is from the most disgusting, despicable of major sins, it’s evil consequences Allāh (The Glorified) has informed us of in His Tremendous Book:

وَمَن يَظْلِم مِّنكُمْ نُذِقْهُ عَذَابًا كَبِيرًا

And whoever among you does wrong, We shall make him taste a great torment. (Al-Furqān: 19)

And Allāh says:

And the Dhālimun (polytheists and wrong-doers, etc.) will have neither a Wali (protector) nor a helper. (Ash-Shūra: 8)

Hence, oppression is a great evil and it has evil consequences, the Messenger (sallāhu alayhi wa salam) said:

“Fear oppression for indeed oppression is darkness on the day of resurrection.” (Muslim)

Furthermore, Allāh has said in a Hadīth Qudsī (which is narrated by the Prophet (sallāhu alayhi wa salam)):

“Oh my servant! Indeed I have forbidden oppression upon myself and between you, so do not oppress.” (Muslim)

Therefore, it is obligatory to be cautious of perpetrating oppression to any of the people, whether it be your family, your wife, your brothers, your children, your mother, your father, your neighbours and other than them.

Likewise, do not oppress your employees, give them their wages in full, every month (for e.g.) give him or her their wages.

Give everyone who has a right upon you; your children, your wife and other than them; their rights.

The intent in being cautious regarding oppression of the people is because indeed Allāh has made sacred the blood, honour and wealth of the Muslims.

So, the Muslim takes himself to account and fears his Lord, so do not oppress anyone, not their honour or their wealth, regardless of whether they are close to you or not.

[39] Excerpts from Shaikh Rabee’s Book Titled ‘Marhaban Yaa Taalibal Ilm’ – [Allaah Raises People by Way of This Qur’aan Through Sound Knowledge And Action, And Not Merely Through Memorisation]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

Shaikh Rabee Bin Haadi [may Allaah preserve him] said:

If they [i.e. the Ummah] deviates from the [sound] understanding, goals, manners and implementation and thus they  are recompensed with what they deserve, as is the case with the Muslims who came after the virtuous generations [i.e. after the salaf], because they [i.e. the virtuous generations] understood the Qur’aan and the authentic Sunnah as it should be understood; they applied both of them in their lives in the most excellent manner, disseminated both of them – this sound understanding and beneficial knowledge – to the Arab and Non-Arab nations, the black and white race; so those nations were benefitted. Then there emerged scholars amongst the non-Arabs, who hastened towards [knowledge and righteous deeds], rather they excelled the Arabs [i.e. besides the Sahaabah], because Allaah raised them by way of this Qur’aan. The Prophet [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] said: Indeed, Allaah raises some people by this Qur’aan and degrades others by it.’’ [Muslim 817]

Therefore, the one raised by way of the Qur’aan, Allaah raises him [or her] not merely due to memorisation, rather he [or she] is raised by way of correct understanding, and by way of truthful and upright deeds [i.e. deeds based on the Qur’aan, the authentic sunnah and understanding of the Salaf].

[38] Excerpts from Shaikh Rabee’s Book Titled ‘Marhaban Yaa Taalibal Ilm’: [Shaikh Rabee Speaks About The Great Favour Conferred On This Ummah and Shaikh Fawzaan Speaks About The State of Affairs Before The Appearance of The Final Messenger]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

Allaah conferred a great favour on this Ummah by sending Muhammad [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] and the knowledge [of the religion], truth and guidance he brought. Allaah said in Surah Aal Imran:

Indeed Allah conferred a great favour on the believers when He sent among them a Messenger (Muhammad) from among themselves, reciting unto them His Verses (the Qur’an), and purifying them (from sins by their following him), and instructing them (in) the Book (the Qur’an) and Al-Hikmah [the wisdom and the Sunnah of the Prophet (i.e. his legal ways, statements, acts of worship, etc.)], while before that they had been in manifest error. [Surah Aal Imraan’ Aayah 164]

And Allaah [The Most High] said in Surah Al-Jumu’ah:

He [Allaah] is Who sent among the unlettered ones a Messenger (Muhammad) from among themselves, reciting to them His Verses, purifying them (from the filth of disbelief and polytheism), and teaching them the Book (this Qur’an, Islamic laws and Islamic jurisprudence) and Al-Hikmah (As-Sunnah: legal ways, orders, acts of worship, etc. of Prophet Muhammad). And verily, they had been before in manifest error. [Surah Al-Jumu’ah Aayah 2]

They used to be in a state of Al-Jaahilyyah [Ref A] – they neither possessed knowledge nor had a book revealed by Allaah. No warner [i.e. Messenger] came to them for a very long time, then this noble Messenger [Muhammad (sallal laahu alayhi wasallam)] came to them whilst they were the most ignorant and misguided people; but Allaah guided them and saved them from the fire of hell through Muhammad’s Dawah and Messengership, as Allaah said:

And remember Allah’s Favour on you, for you were enemies one to another but He joined your hearts together, so that, by His Grace, you became brethren (in Islamic Faith), and you were on the brink of a pit of Fire, and He saved you from it. [Surah Aal Imraan Aayah 103]

They used to be upon the evilest state of affairs –in a state of enmity, hatred, animosity and disunity. They committed robbery and pillage, and created a state of anarchy; so Allaah saved them through Muhammad [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] in this worldly life and they became the most advanced nation- established the most virtuous civilization ever known to humankind and became the best of all nations amongst humankind, who enjoined good, forbid evil and believed in Allaah, just as Allaah and His Messenger praised them. The Messenger said:

The best of the people are those living in my generation, then those who come after them and then those after them.’’ [Bukhaari 2651] [Ref 1]

Ref A: What is Al-Jaahiliyyah? Shaikh Saaleh Al-Fawzaan [may Allaah preserve him] said:
Al-Jaahiliyyah: It is derived from al-Jahl (ignorance). It is an absence of knowledge, and the intent behind it is the before Islaam. The before the advent of Muhammad (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) is (referred to as) Jaahiliyyah because they were in ignorance and misguidance in the affairs of worship, dealings, food, drink, marriage and other than that. They were in ignorance and misguidance due to the long period between Eesaa and Muhammad (i.e. the absence of a messenger).

This was a period of over four hundred years during which the divine message stopped. The divine message was obscured, and ignorance and misguidance became widespread. The people worshiped idols, trees, stones, false deities, the Jinn and humans. They worshiped the Angels, the Awliyaa and the righteous people, and they were upon divergent paths with regards to acts of worship.

And with regards to the affair of halaal and haraam, they did not distinguish between good and filth; rather they used to deal with usury. The Ribaa Al-Jaahiliyyah (The Pre-Islamic Usury) was: When they used to settle a debt with a debtor, they would say: either you settle the debt, or we increase the debt and double the time it (should be paid). This was the Pre-Islamic Usury and it used to be predominant in their dealings. They used to gather wealth through forbidden means–through pillage, plunder, robbery and devouring people’s wealth through falsehood.

And with regards to food, they made dead animals and blood lawful; they used to eat dead animals, blood and repugnant things. And with regards to their relationship between one another, they used to kill and fight one another over the most trivial thing. They neither had a leader nor a state–they were either under the authority of tribal systems or under the authority of the Persians and the Romans. The powerful used to encroach upon (the rights of the weak), and the oppressor used to transgress the limits, and no one stopped him.

This was the in Jaahiliyyah (The Pre-Islamic Period of Ignorance). They were upon ignorance in all aspects (of life) and the greatest of that (ignorance) was with regards to worship and creed. They used to be upon the creed of Shirk and they rejected the (Resurrection) and the Divine Message (of the Messengers). (Allaah said that) they used to say: [مَا أَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَلَىٰ بَشَرٍ مِنْ شَيْءٍ – Nothing did Allaah send down to any human being (by revelation) 6:91]

This was their state in Jaahiliyyah (The Pre-Islamic Period of Ignorance); then, Allaah (Glorified Be He) sent Muhammad (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) with the Guidance and the Religion of Truth. Allaah stated:

It is He Who has sent His Messenger (Muhammad) with Al Hudaa (the Guidance) and Deenul Haqq (the religion of truth -Islaam) 9:33]

‘Hudaa’ is beneficial knowledge and ‘Deenul Haqq’ is righteous action. Allaah (Glorified Be He) sent His prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) with beneficial knowledge and righteous action–so with the sending of the Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) Jaahiliyyah (pre-Islamic ignorance) ceased to exist for ever walil-laahil Hamd, and knowledge and guidance arrived.

The ‘Jaahiliyyah Aamma’ (The Pre-Islamic ignorance that was widespread in the world and touched every aspect of life) has ceased to exist; but it remains with some people or with some of the tribes, or in some of the lands. This is Jaahiliyyah Juz-i (a portion of Pre-Islamic Ignorance), (but) as for the ‘Jahiliyyah Aamma’, this has ceased to exist with the sending of the Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam), but some characteristics of Pre-Islamic ignorance remain with some of the people due to saying of the Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam): ”Among my people there are four characteristics belonging to pre-Islamic period which they do not abandon: boasting of high rank, reviling other peoples’ genealogies, seeking rain by stars, and wailing (i.e. for the dead)’’ (reported by Muslim).” This remains, but it is a portion, (but) as for the Jaahiliyyah Aamma, it has ceased to exist.

So due to this, it is not permissible to say that the people are in Jaahiliyyah (Pre-Islamic ignorance). Some (people) say: (the people) are in a state of Pre-Islamic ignorance that is more severe than the one before the sending of the Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam)…. The meaning of this (statement of theirs) is a denial of what the Messenger (sallal-laahu-layhi-wasallam) came with; it is a denial of the Qur’aan, the Sunnah of the Prophet and the abundant knowledge within our hands. Its meaning is that we are in Jaahiliyyah (Pre-Islamic ignorance). This is a mistake, the people are not in Jaahiliyyah, walil-laahil Hamd, but there remains some of the characteristics of Jaahiliyyah in some individuals, in some nation states and in some tribes; but this is a specific Jaahiliyyah. Therefore, it is incumbent to be acquainted with this affair. [Ref 2]

Dawah Sound System Appeal.

Asalamualaikum wa rahamtullahi wa barakaatuhu

We pray you are all well and in the best of reman. By the grace and mercy of Allah, The Most High, we have managed to establish classes in South Manchester and a weekly dawa stall now in central Manchester see twitter @learnaboutislam & @ccdawahmcr. We also hold our Eid Prayers and the Congregation here bigger every year.

As a result of the use, and expansion- our old Sound System isn’t able to service this need any longer; with sound cutting out, or not reaching; generator noise and hire costs, and it sometimes not working properly at all.

Therefore we contacted a Sound Specialist company and have been quoted a system that will accommodate all our needs and more. The system will be a high capacity battery powered portable speaker system.

However it is expensive- with the total price coming to £2300. Your assistance therefor is needed to raise this amount; and your money will be out toward something integral and vital in the process of giving dawa and teaching the Muslims and non Muslims. So let’s all get together and raise this amount- to carry on the call to Allah!

[37] Excerpts From Shaikh Rabee’s Book Titled ‘Marhaban Yaa Taalibal Ilm’-[Important Responsibilities of The Scholars And Students of Knowledge- (Teaching, Giving Clarifications, Being Upright Examples etc)]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

Shaikh Rabee Bin Haadi [may Allaah preserve him] said: The virtue of knowledge is very great indeed. It is obligated on the scholars to honour this knowledge, act upon you it, be sincere to Allaah about it [i.e. when seeking, teaching and acting upon it], and likewise the students of knowledge [should be the same]. It is obligated on the scholars to give out the knowledge they possess; and when they are asked [questions], it is obligated on them to respond. Allaah [The Most High] said:

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَكْتُمُونَ مَا أَنزَلْنَا مِنَ الْبَيِّنَاتِ وَالْهُدَىٰ مِن بَعْدِ مَا بَيَّنَّاهُ لِلنَّاسِ فِي الْكِتَابِ ۙ أُولَٰئِكَ يَلْعَنُهُمُ اللَّهُ وَيَلْعَنُهُمُ اللَّاعِنُونَ

Verily, those who conceal the clear proofs, evidences and the guidance, which We have sent down, after We have made it clear for the people in the Book, they are the ones cursed by Allah and cursed by the cursers. [Surah Al-Baqarah Aayah 159]

Likewise, it is obligated on them to act [upon this knowledge]. Allaah said:

O you who believe! Why do you say that which you do not do? Most hateful it is with Allah that you say that which you do not do. [Surah Surah Saff’ Aayah 2-3]

If a scholar urges people towards knowledge, action and sincerity, then it is obligated on him to be the first person to hasten towards righteous deeds, sincerity to Allaah and to sanctify this knowledge, lest this statement of Allaah applies to him:

 كَبُرَ مَقْتًا عِندَ اللَّهِ أَن تَقُولُوا مَا لَا تَفْعَلُونَ

Most hateful it is with Allah that you say that which you do not do].

Allaah informed us that some of the Prophets said to their people:

وَمَا أُرِيدُ أَنْ أُخَالِفَكُمْ إِلَىٰ مَا أَنْهَاكُمْ عَنْهُ

I wish not, in contradiction to you, to do that which I forbid you. [Surah Hud’ Aayah 88]. This was said by Shu’aib [alayhis salaam] and every Prophet also said this.

It is obligated on a scholar to refrain from desiring the worldly possessions of the people – neither desiring status nor position, neither authority nor to put in charge of some work place. He should not desire anything through that knowledge except Allaah’s Countenance. [Ref 1]

It is obligated on him to call the people to the path of Allaah and spread knowledge in the Ummah. Allaah said:

Say (O Muhammad): “This is my way; I invite unto Allah (i.e. to the Oneness of Allah – Islamic Monotheism) with sure knowledge, I and whosoever follows me (also must invite others to Allah i.e to the Oneness of Allah – Islamic Monotheism) with sure knowledge. And Glorified and Exalted be Allah (above all that they associate as partners with Him). And I am not of the Mushrikun (polytheists, pagans, idolaters and disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah; those who worship others along with Allah or set up rivals or partners to Allah). [Surah Yoosuf’ Aayah 108]

 Allaah said:

Invite (mankind, O Muhammad ) to the Way of your Lord (i.e. Islam) with wisdom (i.e. with the Divine Inspiration and the Qur’an) and fair preaching, and argue with them in a way that is better. [Surah An-Nahl’ Aayah 125]

Therefore, it is obligated on a scholar to be a caller to the path of Allaah [The Blessed and Most High]. By Allaah! Teaching is among the greatest means of calling to the path of Allaah. The Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] was the leader of the callers to the path of  Allaah. The people use to come to him in the masjid and at his house. He was the greatest caller to the path of Allaah and the greatest conveyor of Allaah’s religion.

It is obligated on us to convey. We are inheritors of the knowledge left behind by the Prophets. We are students of knowledge, and I do not say that we are from the scholars; but we have a share of what we have learnt from the inheritance of the Prophets; therefore, it obligated on us to convey it. So, let us be callers to the path of Allaah – conveying from what Allaah has revealed and from the Messenger of Allaah of Allaah [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam]. And propagating the message necessitates speech and action – calling to the path of Allaah with speech and action [i.e. act upon what we say]. This affair is obligatory, so let us strictly adhere to it, act upon it and fulfil it, and beware of opposing your statements with your actions.

One of The Very Important Affairs That Should Be The Centre of One’s Attention Whilst Seeking After Truth – [By Shaikh Rabee (may preserve him)]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

Shaikh Rabee Bin Haadi [may Allaah preserve him] said:

It is obligated on every Muslim to examine himself, for indeed a person might incline towards [another] person who is upon truth based on his desires; then even before the truth is clear to him, he wishes that such and such person should be the one aided with the proofs or something else, so, his soul inclines [towards that person] because he [i.e. that person] is such and such [personality].

Therefore, even if that person is upon the truth, it is not permissible for this type of inclination to be present. If this type of inclination is present, even with the person upon truth, it is considered to be a trait of pre-Islamic ignorance.   This is an affair that does not cross the minds of many people.  Therefore, it is obligated on a Muslim in relation to affairs wherein people differ, that he is attentive to the fact that Allaah knows, sees and hears everything, and his intention [goal or aim] should only be that he [wants] to know the truth whether it is with this or that person. And in relation to this, Imaam Ash-Shaafi’ee said: “When I enter into a discussion [or debate], I am not bothered whether the truth is with me or with the other person.” So, he is not bothered nor does he wish that the truth is with him, rather he wishes that it is either with the other person or with him. This is the lofty moral conduct and the upright religion. http://www.rabee.net/ar/articles.php?cat=8&id=172
