In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

Pride [ or haughtiness] is one of the obstacles in the path of seeking knowledge, and Allaah’s Refuge is sought. The Salaf – as stated by Mujaahid – said: “Neither the proud [or haughty] person nor the shy person will acquire knowledge.” Pride [or haughtiness] is a destructive disease – and Allaah’s Refuge is sought. An atom’s weight of pride [or haughtiness] can cast a person in the hell fire. A person should not be inattentive to [the dangerous consequences] of pride [or haughtiness] – regardless whether [one behaves in such a manner] towards the common people or the scholars, or in the path of seeking knowledge or other than that. This [i.e. pride or haughtiness] is a dangerous disease.
