Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [rahimahullaah] said:

Indeed, when the slave is ready to listen to falsehood and accept it, then that makes him take to distorting the truth from its rightful place.  So be warned! Be warned against sitting with the people of innovation because sitting with them sickens the heart due to what comes to the heart by listening to their innovated desires and misguided [views, beliefs etc] which are made to resemble the truth.  This is how the light of Eemaan exits the heart [i.e. either it becomes weaker or leaves depending on the severity of the bidah] after it was shining with the light of the Book and the Sunnah, [and after it was] safeguarded and protected from the desires [i.e. innovations] which weakens and makes it sick”.
