Why Give Our Wives Enough Notice Regarding Our Time of Arrival When Returning From a Journey?!

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Shaikh Saaleh Al-Fawzaan [may Allaah preserve him] stated whilst discussing the etiquettes of seeking permission to enter a house:

It is hated to enter without seeking permission and giving Salaam, especially when returning from a journey. One should not come to his family and his wife unless they are aware of his entry, so that they may prepare themselves. He should not come to her (wife) suddenly, whilst she is in a state [i.e. physical appearance, clothing etc] in which she does not like her husband to see her. [Ref 1: Source: An Excerpt from It’haaf At-tullaab Bi-Sharh Mandhoomah Al-Aadaab’ page 144. slightly paraphrased]

Ref 1: Here is Hadeeth to add to what the Shaikh (may Allaah preserve him) was alluding to. Once Jaabir (radiyallaahu-anhu) was returning from an expedition with the Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) and he was riding fast in order to get home as he was newlywed, so the Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) told him to slow down in order to give the women time to prepare themselves. Jaabir said, ‘’When we were about to enter (Al-Madeenah), the Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) said, ‘’Wait so that you may enter (Al-Madeenah) in the afternoon so that the lady of unkempt hair may comb her hair and the one whose husband has been absent may shave her pubic region.’’ [Sahih Al-Bukhari’ Vol 7. Hadeeth Number 5079; Book of An-Nikaah (The Wedlock).. Daarus-Salaam]
