In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

“Feed [the people] and speak in a good manner”.

The first affair is to give food and this includes that which a person gives his family, which is considered obligatory spending and he is rewarded for that; then those – besides his immediate family- he is able to feed, such as relatives, neighbours, companions and others similar to them. A person is reward for every effort he makes in this.

The second affair is good speech. This includes – first and foremost – teaching the people and spreading [knowledge] for the Sake of Allaah based on the correct manner, truthfulness and sincerity. Likewise, giving sincere advice based on the Sharee’ah to everyone whom the Prophet  [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] commanded us one to give sincere advice- sincere advice [to the people that they] adhere to the Book of Allaah and the sunnah of the Messenger; and sincere advice to the rulers [in private] and to common people under their authority. [Ref a]

Also, enjoining good and forbidding evil is part of good speech, profuse remembrance of Allaah through the different types of [authentic and legislated invocations, supplications]. And the highest level in this affair and the most truthful speech- without exception – is the speech of Allaah [i.e. the Qur’an], as well as the other [legislated ways] through which one remembers Allaah are included in the good righteous deeds which Allaah has praised and urged the servants to perform. Allaah said: [ ٱلۡمَالُ وَٱلۡبَنُونَ زِينَةُ ٱلۡحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡيَا‌ۖ وَٱلۡبَـٰقِيَـٰتُ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتُ خَيۡرٌ عِندَ رَبِّكَ ثَوَابً۬ا وَخَيۡرٌ أَمَلاً۬ – Wealth and children are the adornment of the life of this world. But the good righteous deeds that last, are better with your Lord for rewards and better in respect of hope. [Surah Al-Kahf. Aayah 46]
