In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

The Messenger of Allaah [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] said to Umar [radiyallaahu-anhu]: “By Him in Whose Hands my soul is, whenever Satan sees you taking a path, he follows a path other than yours.” [Ref 1]

Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah [rahimahullaah] said: Shaytaan [misguides etc] a person through his desires [i.e. the person’s evil desires], whereas Umar [radiyallaahu-anhu] subdued his desires. [Ref 2]
