[5] Excerpts From Tafseer of Surah An-Nahl – Referred to As ‘Surah An-Ni’am’ By Some of The Scholars [Aayaat 15-16]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

وَأَلۡقَىٰ فِى ٱلۡأَرۡضِ رَوَٲسِىَ أَن تَمِيدَ بِڪُمۡ وَأَنۡہَـٰرً۬ا وَسُبُلاً۬ لَّعَلَّڪُمۡ تَہۡتَدُونَ

وَعَلَـٰمَـٰتٍ۬‌ۚ وَبِٱلنَّجۡمِ هُمۡ يَہۡتَدُونَ

And He has affixed into the earth mountains standing firm, lest it should shake with you, and rivers and roads, that you may guide yourselves. And landmarks (signposts, etc. during the day) and by the stars (during the night), they (mankind) guide themselves. [Surah An-Nahl. Aayaat 15-16]

Meaning: Allaah [The Exalted] placed mountains in the earth for the sake of His slaves – gigantic mountains, so that the earth does not shake and convulse with the people [living on it]. So, they are able to cultivate the land, build on it and traverse on it. And from His [Perfect] Mercy is that He placed rivers in the earth, which flows [by His Will] from a faraway land to a land that is greatly in need of it, so that the people receive water, give to their animals and water their crops – rivers that run on the outer layer of the earth and rivers that are underneath the earth which people obtain by way of digging, until they reach it and bring it out by way of that which Allaah has subjugated to them, such as containers, appliances and what is similar to them. And from His [Perfect] Mercy is that He placed [spaces on the earth that can be used] as roads which link lands that are far away from each other, so that you may guide yourselves to those lands, to the extent that you find a land that is encircled by a chain of mountains, however Allaah has placed spaces and mountain passages in them for the people to walk. [16] The Three Monotheistic Religions! [Brief Observations On This Statement Uttered By Writers Who Are Ignorant About Islaam And Misguided Modernists Speaking In The Name of Islaam]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Firstly: We repeat once again the fact that rebutting false beliefs, ideas and views does not necessitate bad behaviour, rather Muslims are commanded to behave well towards others.

To Proceed:

Allaah [The Most High] said: [ قُلۡ يَـٰٓأَهۡلَ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبِ تَعَالَوۡاْ إِلَىٰ ڪَلِمَةٍ۬ سَوَآءِۭ بَيۡنَنَا وَبَيۡنَكُمۡ أَلَّا نَعۡبُدَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهَ وَلَا نُشۡرِكَ بِهِۦ شَيۡـًٔ۬ا وَلَا يَتَّخِذَ بَعۡضُنَا بَعۡضًا أَرۡبَابً۬ا مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ‌ۚ فَإِن تَوَلَّوۡاْ فَقُولُواْ ٱشۡهَدُواْ بِأَنَّا مُسۡلِمُونَ –Say (O Muhammad): “O people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians): Come to a word that is just between us and you, that we worship none but Allah, and that we associate no partners with Him, and that none of us shall take others as lords besides Allah. Then, if they turn away, say: “Bear witness that we are Muslims]. [Surah Aal Imraan. Aayah 64]

Meaning: say to the people of the scripture – the Jews and Christians, [تَعَالَوۡاْ إِلَىٰ ڪَلِمَةٍ۬ سَوَآءِۭ بَيۡنَنَا وَبَيۡنَكُمۡ – Come to a word that is just between us and you]- Meaning: Come let us unite upon the statement which all the Prophets and Messengers agreed upon and none opposes it except the obstinate and misguided. This statement is not specific to anyone of us; rather it is something that you and us should establish between us, so this is justice and fairness in debate. Then Allaah explains this and said: [أَلَّا نَعۡبُدَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهَ وَلَا نُشۡرِكَ بِهِۦ شَيۡـًٔ۬ا  –  that we worship none but Allah, and that we associate no partners with Him]- Meaning: We should single out Allaah in worship, devoting all love, fear and hope to Him alone, and we should not associate anyone as partner with Allaah in worship- neither a Prophet, an Angel, a Righteous Person, an Idol, a Deified image, a living or non-living thing, [وَلَا يَتَّخِذَ بَعۡضُنَا بَعۡضًا أَرۡبَابً۬ا مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ‌ۚ  – and that none of us shall take others as lords besides Allaah]; rather all obedience is to be devoted to Allah and His Messengers. [فَإِن تَوَلَّوۡاْ فَقُولُواْ ٱشۡهَدُواْ بِأَنَّا مُسۡلِمُونَ – Then, if they turn away, say: “Bear witness that we are Muslims]”. [Tafsir As-Sadi]

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

وَمَن يَبۡتَغِ غَيۡرَ ٱلۡإِسۡلَـٰمِ دِينً۬ا فَلَن يُقۡبَلَ مِنۡهُ وَهُوَ فِى ٱلۡأَخِرَةِ مِنَ ٱلۡخَـٰسِرِينَ

And whoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it will never be accepted of him, and in the Hereafter he will be one of the losers. [Surah Aal Imraan. Aayah 85]

This Aayah is directed at the people of the Scripture and other than them, for indeed it is found in last Aayaat of Surah Aal Imran in which the people of the book were addressed and engaged in debate. It was revealed to the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] when the Christian delegation of Najraan came to him and they were sixty in number, amongst them was a leader, important and common people. Their story is well known. This Aayah was revealed before the religion of the Christians was rebuked- those who innovated into their religion and changed the religion of the Messiah [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him]. The truth brought by the Messiah [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] is not the falsehood they have innovated to the extent that their religion comprises of truth and falsehood- falsehood mixed with truth. It is almost impossible to find someone in their religion who has knowledge of that which the Messiah [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] abrogated in the Tawraat or confirmed. The Messiah [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] affirmed the majority of that which was in the Tawraat, but the Christians in general do not distinguish between what the Messiah [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] affirmed and other than it, because they do not know the religion of the Messiah [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him]. Allaah [The Exalted] said:

It is not (possible) for any human being to whom Allah has given the Book and Al-Hukma (the knowledge and understanding of the laws of religion, etc.) and Prophethood to say to the people: “Be my worshippers rather than Allah’s.” On the contrary (he would say): “Be you Rabbaniyun (learned men of religion who practise what they know and also preach others), because you are teaching the Book, and you are studying it.” Nor would he order you to take angels and Prophets for lords (gods). Would he order you to disbelieve after you have submitted to Allah’s Will? [Surah Aal Imraan. Aayaat 79-80]

Indeed, Allaah [The Exalted] made it known that the one who takes the Angels and Prophets as lords is a disbeliever. The one who take lords besides Allaah is more deserving of being judged to be upon disbelief, and indeed Allaah mentioned that the Christians took those lesser in status than the Prophets and Angels as lords. Allaah [The Exalted] said:

They (Jews and Christians) took their rabbis and their monks to be their lords besides Allah (by obeying them in things which they made lawful or unlawful according to their own desires without being ordered by Allah), and (they also took as their Lord) Messiah, son of Maryam (Mary), while they (Jews and Christians) were commanded [in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)) to worship none but One Ilah (God – Allah) La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He) . Praise and glory be to Him, (far above is He) from having the partners they associate (with Him).” [Surah At-Tawbah. Aayah 31] [End of quote] [An Excerpt from Al-Jawaabus Saheeh Liman Baddal Deen Al-Maseeh. Vol 1. Pages 198-199. Slightly paraphrased]

Finally, we repeat once again the fact that rebutting false beliefs, ideas and views does not necessitate bad behaviour, rather Muslims are commanded to behave well towards others.

[4] Excerpts From Tafseer of Surah An-Nahl – Referred to As ‘Surah An-Ni’am’ By Some of The Scholars [Aayah 14]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allaah [The Exalted] said: [ وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِى سَخَّرَ ٱلۡبَحۡرَ لِتَأۡڪُلُواْ مِنۡهُ لَحۡمً۬ا طَرِيًّ۬ا وَتَسۡتَخۡرِجُواْ مِنۡهُ حِلۡيَةً۬ تَلۡبَسُونَهَا وَتَرَى ٱلۡفُلۡكَ مَوَاخِرَ فِيهِ وَلِتَبۡتَغُواْ مِن فَضۡلِهِۦ وَلَعَلَّڪُمۡ تَشۡكُرُونَ  – nd He it is Who has subjected the sea (to you), that you eat thereof fresh tender meat, and that you bring forth out of it ornaments to wear. And you see the ships ploughing through it, that you may seek (thus) of His Bounty and that you may be grateful]. [Surah An-Nahl. Aayah 14]

Meaning: He alone – and He has no partner- [ٱلَّذِى سَخَّرَ ٱلۡبَحۡرَ – is He Who has subjugated the sea to you], Meaning, for your various beneficial needs; [لِتَأۡڪُلُواْ مِنۡهُ لَحۡمً۬ا طَرِيًّ۬ا – that you eat thereof fresh tender meat]- Meaning, fish and marine animals that are captured from the sea. [وَتَسۡتَخۡرِجُواْ مِنۡهُ حِلۡيَةً۬ تَلۡبَسُونَهَا – and that you bring forth out of it (i.e. the sea) ornaments to wear]- Meaning, increasing beauty to your beauty.

[وَتَرَى ٱلۡفُلۡكَ مَوَاخِرَ فِيهِ وَلِتَبۡتَغُواْ مِن فَضۡلِهِ – And you see the ships ploughing through it, that you may seek (thus) of His Bounty]- Meaning, sailing through the gigantic waves with their bows when departing from one region and reaching the other, whilst carrying travellers, provisions, goods and merchandise through which people seek a livelihood and the blessings which Allaah has bestowed on them.

[وَلَعَلَّڪُمۡ تَشۡكُرُونَ  – and that you may be grateful]- Meaning, He is the One Who facilitated these things for you and made them available, so that you may praise Him- The One who bestowed them on you. So, to Allaah belongs all praise that should be accompanied with love, and to him belongs all thanks and exaltation, because He gave the servants that which is for their well-being and benefit above what they seek and wish; and He gave you everything that is related to what you hope for [to sustain life] and your needs, whether you ask Him by way of supplication or He has made it readily available due to the fact that you [humans] are in need of it, such as livestock, facilitated you with the sources and the know how to acquire tools, engage in crafts, make things and provide services by way of the different professions, and other than that. We cannot thank Allaah the way He truly deserves, rather He is as He as praised Himself. [An Except from Tafseer As-Sadi. Slightly paraphrased]

A Brief Admonition to Ignorant Muslims Who Behave Like Anarchists, Violate The Authority of The Courts And  Take Law Into Their Own Hands

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Imaam Abdul Azeez Bin Baaz [rahimahullaah] said: As for stopping evil with the hand, this should be done where one has authority, such as one’s home [within what the laws of the country allows] with those under one’s responsibility, or those authorized by the ruler, such as organizations given permission and authority to enjoin good. They should make changes in accordance with the authority they have been given- in the way prescribed by the Sharee’ah, without exceeding their jurisdiction. The same applies to the governor of a city; he should make changes with his hand, in accordance with the instructions he has been given [by the government]. [Ref 1]

Shaikh Saaleh Al-Fawzaan [hafidhahullaah] said:

The ones who actually judge with apostasy are the legislative judges and those who are able and fit for giving legal verdicts. And as for those who enforce the judgements they are the leaders of the Muslims (wullaat al-amr). As for whatever is other than this, then it is mere confusion.

Meting out the punishments is only appropriate for the leader of the Muslims and it is not for every person to establish the punishment, since confusion, and corruption necessarily follows from this, and also the cutting off of the society, tribulations and provocations occur. Establishing the punishments is appropriate (i.e. befits only) to the Muslim leader.

And from the responsibilities of the Sultaan in Islaam, and from those matters that befit him is the establishment of the punishments after they have been established legislatively, via the Sharee’ah law courts, upon the one who fell into the crime for which the legislator has designated a specific punishment, such as for stealing. So what has been said is that establishing the punishments (i.e. meting them out) is from the rights of the Sultaan, and when the Muslims do not have a Sultaan amongst them, then they should just suffice with commanding the good and forbidding the evil, and calling to Allaah, the Might and Majestic, with wisdom, good admonition and arguing with that which is best. And it is not permissible for individuals (in the society) to establish the hudood, since that, as we have mentioned, will bring about chaos, and also provocations, and tribulations will arise, and this contains greater corruption than it contains rectification. And from amongst the Sharee’ah principles that are submitted to is, ‘Repelling the harmful things takes precedence over bringing about the beneficial things’. [Ref 2]

Dare Question What Shaytaan Has Corrupted of Their Fitrah Due to Shirk And Kufr, They Declare You Irrational and Insane-[An Inheritance of Contemporary Militant Atheists From Ancient Criminals]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

And to ‘Ad (people We sent) their brother Hud. He said, “O my people! Worship Allah! You have no other Ilah (God) but Him. Certainly, you do nothing but invent (lies)! “O my people I ask of you no reward for it (the Message). My reward is only from Him, Who created me. Will you not then understand? “And O my people! Ask forgiveness of your Lord and then repent to Him, He will send you (from the sky) abundant rain, and add strength to your strength, so do not turn away as criminals”.  They said: “O Hud! No evidence have you brought us, and we shall not leave our gods for your (mere) saying! And we are not believers in you. “All that we say is that some of our gods (false deities) have seized you with evil (madness).” He said: “I call Allah to witness and bear you witness that I am free from that which you ascribe as partners in worship – with Him (Allah). So plot against me, all of you, and give me no respite. “I put my trust in Allah, my Lord and your Lord! There is not a moving (living) creature but He has grasp of its forelock. Verily, my Lord is on the Straight Path (the truth). “So if you turn away, still I have conveyed the Message with which I was sent to you. My Lord will make another people succeed you, and you will not harm Him in the least. Surely, my Lord is Guardian over all things.” And when Our Commandment came, We saved Hud and those who believed with him by a Mercy from Us, and We saved them from a severe torment. Such were ‘Ad (people). They rejected the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) of their Lord and disobeyed His Messengers, and followed the command of every proud obstinate (oppressor of the truth, from their leaders). And they were pursued by a curse in this world and (so they will be) on the Day of Resurrection. No doubt! Verily, ‘Ad disbelieved in their Lord. So away with ‘Ad, the people of Hud. [Surah Hud. Aayaat 50-60]

Allaah [The Exalted] said that they said to Hud [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him]: [إِن نَّقُولُ إِلَّا ٱعۡتَرَٮٰكَ بَعۡضُ ءَالِهَتِنَا بِسُوٓءٍ۬‌ – All that we say is that some of our gods (false deities) have seized you with evil (madness)]- Meaning, “Our gods have afflicted you with dementia and insanity, therefore you have started mumbling that which cannot be understood”. Glorified be Allaah Who placed a covering on the hearts of the wrongdoers! How could they consider the most truthful one amongst the people who brought the most truthful of truthful affairs to be at this level, which a sensible person would have been ashamed to narrate from them had it not been that Allaah informed us of it. This is why Hud [alayhis salaam] made it very clear to them that he was absolutely certain that neither can they nor their idols harm him, as Allaah stated that Hud [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said:

قَالَ إِنِّىٓ أُشۡہِدُ ٱللَّهَ وَٱشۡہَدُوٓاْ أَنِّى بَرِىٓءٌ۬ مِّمَّا تُشۡرِكُونَ

مِن دُونِهِۦ‌ۖ فَكِيدُونِى جَمِيعً۬ا ثُمَّ لَا تُنظِرُونِ

“I call Allah to witness and bear you witness that I am free from that which you ascribe as partners in worship – with Him (Allah). The Testimony of Faith And Some of The Things That Will Nullify It – [By Shaykh Saaleh Al-Fawzaan]

NB: In this article, a mentioned is made regarding the fact that to devote acts of worship to other than Allaah is Shirk and it nullifies a person’s Islaam; however, declaring that a Muslim has left the fold of Islaam has principles attached to the subject matter. Therefore, we have added footnotes from Shaikh Uthaymeen [rahimahullaah] to detail some of the acts of worship mentioned, which have been detailed by Shaikh Saaleh Al-Fawzaan [hafidhahullaah] in his other works, as well as clarification by Shaikh Saaleh Al-Fawzaan [hafidhahullaah] regarding ‘Takfeer and the Excuse of Ignorance’.  [Salaficentre.com Admin]

Shaikh Saalih al Fawzaan حفظه الله comments on the statement of Allaah:

“وَلَا يَأۡمُرَكُمۡ أَن تَتَّخِذُواْ ٱلۡمَلَٰٓئِكَةَ وَٱلنَّبِيِّـۧنَ أَرۡبَابًاۚ أَيَأۡمُرُكُم بِٱلۡكُفۡرِ بَعۡدَ إِذۡ أَنتُم مُّسۡلِمُونَ”

“Nor would he order you to take angels and Prophets for lords (gods). Would he order you to disbelieve after you have submitted to Allah’s Will?”

Surah Aal-E-Imran, Ayah 80

What can be taken from this verse is that whoever worships the Awliya (the friends of Allaah) or righteous people, claiming that they are intercessors for him with Allaah and that they are an intermediary for him with Allah, seeking closesness to them with acts of worship such as sacrificing, vowing, seeking rescue and supplicating to them after their death, then he has certainly disbelieved after he submitted to Islaam (Ref 1), due to His [Allaah’s] statement تعالى :

“وَلَا يَأۡمُرَكُمۡ أَن تَتَّخِذُواْ ٱلۡمَلَٰٓئِكَةَ وَٱلنَّبِيِّـۧنَ أَرۡبَابًاۚ أَيَأۡمُرُكُم بِٱلۡكُفۡرِ بَعۡدَ إِذۡ أَنتُم مُّسۡلِمُونَ”

“Nor would he order you to take angels and Prophets for lords (gods). Would he order you to disbelieve after you have submitted to Allah’s Will?”

Surah Aal-Imraan, Ayah 80

So this verse proves that whoever supplicates to other than Allaah, or seeks rescue from the dead and from those who are not present, or he sacrifices to other than Allaah, or vows to other than Allaah, then indeed he has disbelieved after being upon Islaam, even if he testifies that ‘There is no true deity worthy of worship except Allaah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allaah’, because if he directs an act of worship to other than Allah such as to the Awliyaa, the righteous people, graves, tombs, trees, stones, then he has disbelieved. His testimony that ‘There is no deity worthy of worship except Allaah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allaah’ will not benefit him, because he has nullified his testimony by way of his actions and beliefs, and what his tongue stated; for indeed these two testimonies that ‘There is no deity worthy of worship except Allaah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allaah’ necessitate sincerity in worshipping Allaah [alone] and abandon the worship of other than Him. (Ref 2)

When he says ‘There is no true deity worthy of worship except Allaah’, then it means that he dissociates himself from all that is worshipped besides Allaah and that he performs all acts of worship for Allaah alone; but if he opposes this statement through sacrificing to other than Allaah (Ref 3), or vowing to other than Allaah, or seeking rescue and supplicating to the dead and seeking help from them, then he has nullified his statement that ‘There is no deity worthy of worship except Allaah’, so it becomes the case that he has stated with his tongue that which is not applied in his deeds and actions.

So the one who says ‘There is no deity worthy of worship except Allaah’, it is obligated on him to abandon the worship of all things besides Allaah and to sincerely worship Allaah alone, because when it is said to many of these people, “This is shirk and this is disbelief, or this is false”, they reply saying, “‘No, they testify that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allaah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allaah, so how can you declare them to be disbelievers?!” We say to them, “Allaah has declared them to be disbelievers (Ref 4), just as is found in this verse:

“وَلَا يَأۡمُرَكُمۡ أَن تَتَّخِذُواْ ٱلۡمَلَٰٓئِكَةَ وَٱلنَّبِيِّـۧنَ أَرۡبَابًاۚ أَيَأۡمُرُكُم بِٱلۡكُفۡرِ بَعۡدَ إِذۡ أَنتُم مُّسۡلِمُونَ”

“Nor would he order you to take angels and Prophets for lords (gods). Would he order you to disbelieve after you have submitted to Allah’s Will?”‘

Surah Aal-Imraan, Ayah 80

So this verse proves that if the Muslim does these types of things (directing acts of worship to other than Allah), then he has disbelieved in Allaah. [Ref 5] [End of quote: Source: Min Ahkhaam Al-Qur’aan by Shaikh Salih al Fawzaan حفظه الله  vol.1 pgs 32 – 33]

Ref 1: Supplicating to other than Allaah, Takfeer and Excuse of Ignorance:

Shaikh Uthaymeen [rahimahullaah] said: So whoever called upon anyone besides Allaah, the Mighty and Majestic, requesting something which none but Allaah has power over, then he is a Mushrik (one who worships others besides Allaah), an unbeliever (kaafir), whether the one he calls upon is living or dead. Whoever requests a living person for something which he is able to do, such as the saying: ‘O so and so give me food’ or ‘O so and so give me a drink,’ then there is no harm in that. But whoever asks a dead person or someone who is absent for that, then he is a Mushrik, since the deceased or the absent cannot possibly do that. So in such a case his supplicating to them shows that he believes that they have some control over the creation, and he is therefore a Mushrik. Ref 2: Seeking Rescue From Other Than Allaah, Vowing to Other Than Allaah, Takfeer and The Excuse of Ignorance:

Shaikh Uthaymeen [rahimahullaah] said: To seek rescue and deliverance from severe difficulty and destruction, and is of various types: (i) Seeking deliverance and rescue from Allaah, the Mighty and Majestic, is one of the most excellent and most perfect deeds, and it was the continual practice of the messengers and their followers. The evidence for it is what the Shaykh, rahimahullaah, mentioned, “When you sought aid and deliverance of your Lord and He responded to you that He was sending you a thousand angels in succession to assist you.” [Soorah al-Anfaal (8):9] This occurred at the battle of Badr when the Prophet (#1) saw the mushriks numbering a thousand men, whist his companions were a few more than three hundred and ten. So he entered the palm grove calling earnestly upon his Lord, the Mighty and Majestic, raising up his hands and facing the qiblah, and saying: “OAllaah fulfil that which You have promised me. O Allaah if this small group who are the people oflslaam are destroyed you will not be worshipped upon the earth.” Then he continued calling upon his Lord earnestly, with his hands raised such that his cloak fell from his shoulders. So Aboo Bakr, radiyallaahu ‘anhu, took up his cloak and cast it back upon his shoulders and embraced him from behind and said: “O Prophet of Allaah, your earnest supplication to your Lord will be sufficient for you since he will fulfil what He has promised you,” so this Aayah was sent down. [Reported by Muslim (Eng. transl. 3/960/no.4360)] (ii) Seeking rescue and deliverance, either from the dead or from those who are living but are not present and able to give aid and rescue, then this is shirk. This is so because it will not be done except by one who believes that those people have some unseen control over the creation, and they have therefore attributed to them a share of the Lordship that is for Allaah, the Most High, alone. Allaah, the Most High, says, “Or is that which you falsely worship along with Allaah better than He Who responds to the one in distress when he calls Him; who removes the harm; and who makes you to succeed those who came before you?! Is there anything that is worshipped besides Allaah that can do these things for you?! Little do you consider the greatness of Allaah and His favours upon you, and the clear proofs He has given you, so you therefore associate others in worship with Him.” [Soorah an-Naml (27):62] (iii) Seeking aid and rescue from those who are alive, aware of the situation and capable of assistance and rescue. It is permissible to seek aid and rescue from them: Allaah, the Most High, says in the story of Moosaa: “So the man who was upon the same Religion as Moosaa sought the aid of Moosaa against his enemy the Copt, so Moosaa struck him forcefully and killed him.” [Soorah al-Qasas (28):15] (iv) Seeking rescue and aid from a living person who is not capable of assisting him, without believing that he has some hidden power. For example that a drowning person calls for rescue from a person who is paralysed. This is futility and is a mockery of the one whom he seeks rescue from, and is therefore prohibited for this reason. A further reason for its prohibition is that anyone who saw him seeking rescue from the paralysed man may be deceived into thinking that the paralysed man must have some hidden power enabling him to rescue people. Vowing to Other Than Allaah, Takfeer and Excuse of Ignorance:

Shaikh Uthaymeen [rahimahullaah] said: The evidence that vows are worship is the Saying of Allaah, the Most High, “They fulfil their vows and they fear a day whose evil is widespread.” [Soorah al-Insaan (76):7] 84 The Aayah is a proof since Allaah praises them for fulfilling their vows, which shows that Allaah loves that and every action that is beloved to Allaah is worship. This is further supported by the Saying of Allaah, the Most High, “…they fear a day whose evil is widespread.” [Soorah al-Insaan (76):7] The fulfilling of vows which Allaah, the Most High, has praised are all acts of worship which Allaah, the Mighty and Majestic, has obligated. This is because when a person starts any of the obligatory acts of worship, then he has become duty bound to fulfil and complete them. The proof for this is the Saying of Allaah, the Most High, “Then let them complete the duties of their hajj, and fulfil their vows (e.g. the sacrifice), and let them perform the tawaaf of ifaadah around the ancient House.” [Soorah al-Hajj (22):29] Vows by which a person makes a pledge and thus obligates himself to do something or other, or makes some act of obedience to Allaah, that is not obligatory, binding upon himself, then this is disliked, and some of the scholars declared it to be forbidden. This is because the Prophet (0) forbade making vows and said, “It does not bring good, it merely causes the miserly person to spend” [Reported by al-Bukhaaree (Eng. transl. 8/448/no.684) and Muslim (Eng. transl. 3/871/no.4019)].

Yet even so, if a person does go ahead and vow that he will do some act of obedience to Allaah, then it becomes obligatory upon him to perform it as the Prophet (3|§) said, “Whoever vows to act in obedience to Allaah, then let him obey Him” [Reported by al-Bukhaaree (Eng. transl. 8/449/no.687)]. So in summary vows {an-nadhr) applies to the obligatory acts of worship in general, and to making vows in specific, which is that a person obliges himself to do something for the sake of Allaah, the Mighty and Majestic. The scholars divide the vow into various categories and these are laid out in the books of fiqh (details of Islamic law and regulations). [Explanation of the Three Fundamental Principles of Islaam. Ref 3: Sacrificing Animals For Other Than Allaah, Takfeer and The Excuse of Ignorance:

Shaikh Uthaymeen [rahimahullaah] said: Sacrifice is to kill by spilling the blood of the animal in a particular manner, and is done for a number of reasons: (i) That it is done as an act of worship, such that he intends by it veneration of the one for whom he sacrifices, and intends it as an act of submission to him and a means of nearness to him. So this may not be done except for Allaah, the Most High, and has to be done in the manner which Allaah, the Most High, has prescribed. Directing it to other than Allaah is major shirk and the evidence (as mentioned by the author) is the Saying of Allaah, the Most High, “Say, O Muhammad, indeed my Prayer, my sacrifice, my living and my dying are all purely and solely for Allaah, Lord of all creation. There is no share of any of that for other than Him’ [Soorah al-An’aam (6):162-3] (ii) That it is done out of hospitality for the guest, or for as wedding feast (waleemah) or the like, then this is something commanded, either as an obligation or a recommendation, as he said “Whoever truly believes in Allaah and the Last Day, then let him treat the guest honourably” [Reported by al-Bukhaaree (Eng. transl. 8/99/no. 156) and Muslim (Eng. transl. 3/935/no. 4286)]. He said to ‘Abdur-Rahmaan ibn ‘Auf, “Give a wedding, feast (waleemah) even if it is only with a single sheep” [Reported by al-Bukhaaree (Eng. transl. 7/72/no.96)]. (iii) That it is done to provide food charitably, or to sell the meat and so on, then this falls under that which is permissible and is in principle according to the Saying of Allaah, the Most High, “Do those mushriks who worship others along with Allaah not see that We have created for them, from what our Hands have created, cattle which they are in charge of, and We have made the cattle subservient to them: so from them are those which they eat the meat of.” [Soorah Yaa Seen (36):71-2] [Explanation of the Three Fundamental Principles of Islaam. Seeking Help From Other Than Allaah, Takfeer and The Excuse of Ignorance

Shaikh Uthaymeen [rahimahullaah] said: Is to appeal for assistance, and it is of various types: (i) Appealing for aid and assistance from Allaah – this is an appeal for aid and assistance that comprises complete humility of the servant before his Lord, and to submit and entrust the affair to Him, and to be certain that He is fully sufficient for him. This is not to be except for Allaah, the Most High, alone, and the evidence is the Saying of Allaah, the Most High, “O Allaah You alone we worship, and to You alone we appeal for aid.” [Soorah al-Faatihah (1):5] The fact that this is to be for Allaah, the Most High, alone is shown by the fact that He mentions the word upon which the verb acts before the verb itself, and according to the principles of grammar of the Arabic language, in which the Qur’aan came down, bringing forward that which usually comes afterwards indicates restriction and particularisation. So directing this type to other than Allaah, the Most High, is shirk which takes a person out of the Religion. (ii) Seeking the help of a person from the creation, in something which he is capable of helping in. Then this will be in accordance with the action in which help is sought. If it is a good action then it is permissible for the person to seek help upon it, and prescribed for a person to help in that, as Allaah, the Most High, says, “And assist one another upon righteous actions and avoidance of sins.” [Soorah alMaa’idah (5):2] If it is a sinful thing, then it is forbidden for the person doing it and for the one who assists, as Allaah, the Most High, says, “And do not assist one another in abandoning what Allaah has commanded and upon transgressing the limits laid down in the Religion.” [Soorah al-Maa’idah (5):2] If it is something permissible, then it is allowed for the person to seek help and to be assisted, and the one who is helping may be rewarded for kind treatment and thus it becomes something prescribed for him as Allaah, the Most High says, “And do good, indeed Allaah loves those who do good.” [Soorah al-Baqarah (2): 195] (iii) Seeking the help of a person from the creation who is alive and present, except that it is something which he is incapable of, then this is futile and useless. For example that he seeks the help of a weak person in order to carry something very heavy. (iv) Seeking the aid of any deceased person, or the aid of the living in a matter of the hidden and unseen, which they cannot reach. Then this is shirk since it will only be done by a person who believes that those whose help he seeks have some hidden control over the creation. (v) Seeking help by performing deeds that are beloved to Allaah, the Most High. This is something that is prescribed due to the Saying of Allaah, the Most High, “And seek assistance through patience and Prayer.” [Soorah al-Baqarah (2):45] The author, rahimahullaah, uses as evidence for the first type the Saying of Allaah, the Most High, “O Allaah You alone we worship, and to You alone we appeal for aid.” [Soorah al-Faatihah (1):5] And the saying of the Prophet saying: “If you seek help then seek the help of Allaah” [Explanation of the Three Fundamental Principles of Islaam. [3] Excerpts From Tafseer of Surah An-Nahl – Referred to As ‘Surah An-Ni’am’ By Some of The Scholars [Aayaat 10-13]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

[He it is Who sends down water (rain) from the sky; from it you drink and from it (grows) the vegetation on which you send your cattle to pasture; with it He causes to grow for you the crops, the olives, the date-palms, the grapes, and every kind of fruit. Verily! In this is indeed an evident proof and a manifest sign for people who give thought. (Aayah 10-11)]. Meaning, thus one contemplates on Allaah’s Perfect Power, The One Who sends down this water from the tender and mild clouds – and His Perfect Mercy, for He placed abundant water in the clouds and they [i.e. the people] drink from it, provide drinking water for their flocks and use for their vegetation, which produces abundant fruits and numerous blessings.

[And He has subjected to you the night and the day, the sun and the moon; and the stars are subjected by His Command. Surely, in this are proofs for people who understand (Aayah 12)] – Meaning, Allaah subjugated these things to you for your benefit and the various affairs related to your well-being, to such an extent that you can never do without them. At night you find repose, take rest and sleep, and during the day you disperse in pursuit of your livelihoods, the beneficial affairs related to your religion and worldly life.

And from the sun there is Diyaa [i.e. light together with heat], the moon has Noor [i.e. light without heat] and they both have brightness, which is beneficial to trees, vegetation and plants; a means of dehumidification [by way of the sun] and removal of cold weather that is harmful to the earth and bodies, and [providing] other necessities and needs due to their presence. And there is beautification of the heavens by way of the sun, the moon and the stars, a means of guiding [the people during travel] in the darkness on land and at sea, a means of knowing the time periods of the day and night, and figuring out the different months and years, and that which is related to their various sings and functions. This is why Allaah pointed out all of that in His statement: [إِنَّ فِى ذَٲلِكَ لَأَيَـٰتٍ۬ لِّقَوۡمٍ۬ يَعۡقِلُونَ  – Surely, in this are proofs for people who understand] – Meaning, those who possess intellects that are utilised to reflect and ponder based on the reason behind which they were facilitated with intellects- to understand what they see and hear; and not like the observation of the heedless ones, whose observation is similar to that animals whose intellect [is not guided by divine revelation to distinguish between right and wrong].

[And whatsoever He has created for you on this earth of varying colours and qualities from vegetation and fruits, etc. (botanical life) and from animal (zoological life). Verily! In this is a sign for people who remember. (Aayah 13)] – Meaning, whatever Allaah has created for His slaves and spread out on the face of the earth, such as animals, trees, plants and other than that- whose colours and types vary – is a sign regarding Allaah’s Perfect Power, vast kindness and Generosity, and that indeed He is the only One who has the right to be worshipped. [Ref 1]

Verily! In this is a sign for people who remember]– Meaning, remember the favours of Allaah and His blessings, and then show gratitude. [Ref 2]

Muslim Doctors Who Fight Disease or Save Lives!!! Abandon Headlines That May Inflict The Heart With Deadly Self-amazement; Rather Say, “We Found a Cure And Successfully Treated People By The Will of Allaah”.

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allaah [The Most High] stated that Ibraaheem [alayhis salaam] said: [وَإِذَا مَرِضۡتُ فَهُوَ يَشۡفِينِ – And when I am ill, it is He [Allaah] Who cures me]. [Surah Ash-Shu’araa. Aayah 80] – Meaning: When I become sick, none is able to heal me, except Allaah, by way of the means that may lead to recovery [i.e. by His Will]. [Ref 1]

Abdullah Ibn Mas’ood [radiyallaahu-ahu] said, “Allaah’s Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam said, ‘Allaah did not send down any disease except that he also sent its cure.” In another narration, the Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] said, ‘One who has knowledge of it knows it, and one ignorant of it is ignorant’” [Ref 2]

The Messenger [sallal laahu aalayhi wasallam] said, “Treat your sick by giving Sadaqah”. [Ref 3] AbuBakr Al-Khubaaziy [rahimahullaah] said, “I had a very dangerous illness, so a neighbour of mine saw me and said, ‘Act upon the statement of Allaah’s Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam], ‘Treat your sick by giving Sadaqah’. It was summertime, so I bought many watermelons and gathered a group of poor people and children. They ate and then supplicated for me to be cured. By Allaah! I did not reached the next morning except that Allaah granted me wellbeing’”. [Ref 4]

Allaah [The Most High] said:

[لَّيۡسَ عَلَى ٱلۡأَعۡمَىٰ حَرَجٌ۬ وَلَا عَلَى ٱلۡأَعۡرَجِ حَرَجٌ۬ وَلَا عَلَى ٱلۡمَرِيضِ حَرَجٌ۬ – There is no restriction on the blind, nor any restriction on the lame, nor any restriction on the sick….. [24:61]

Allaah mentioned the diseases of the body when He [The Most High] spoke about Hajj, Fasting and Ablution due to a marvellous underlying reason – a reason that will reveal to you the Greatness of the Qur’aan and suffices the one who understands it. The principles of physical medicine are three: preservation of health, protecting [the body] from what might cause harm and removal of harmful substances; and Allaah [Glorified be He and free is He from all imperfections] mentioned these three principles in those three places [i.e. when He (The Most High) spoke about Hajj, Fasting and Ablution)] [Ref 5]

Abu Moosaa Al-Ash’aree (radiyallaahu-anhu) said, “The Messenger of Allaah (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) said to me, ‘O Abdullaah Bin Qais! Shall I tell you a word which is one of the treasures of Paradise? It is [لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللهِ  – (i.e. There is neither might nor power (to alternate from one state to another nor move from one thing to another) except by Allaah’s Will]. [Bukhaari 6384 & Muslim 2704]

Al-Harwee [rahimahullaah] said that Abu Haytham [rahimahullaah] said, “Al-Hawl [i.e. might] is Al-Haraka [movement], meaning, there is no movement nor ability except by the Will of Allaah”. And it is said, “There is no might to repel evil nor any power to reach good except by the Will of Allaah”. [Ref 6]

Shaikh Saaleh Al-Fawzaan [hafidhahullaah] said: “One of the treasures of paradise”- Meaning: Its reward is great and that is paradise; and Paradise is the greatest thing sought after. This shows the virtue of the statement

And why does it carry that reward? That is because it necessitates surrendering all of one’s affairs to Allaah, manifesting one’s inability and poverty in the presence of Allaah, and that indeed Allaah is The One Perfect in Strength and The One Fully Able to do all things [and has power over all things]. It is a great statement, easy to utter and repeat on the tongue. [Ref 7]

[ إِيَّاكَ نَعۡبُدُ وَإِيَّاكَ نَسۡتَعِينُ  – You (Alone (i.e. Allaah) we worship, and You (Alone) we ask for help (for each and everything)]. Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [rahimahullaah]) said: This necessitates having knowledge of the path leading to [servitude to Allaah], which is nothing else other than worshipping Allaah alone through the [deeds] He loves and is pleasing to Him, and seeking His help to worship Him [alone]. [Ref 8]

[إِيَّاكَ نَعْبُدُ–You alone we worship] is based on four foundations: Fulfilling what is beloved and pleasing to Allaah and His Messenger- through speech of the tongue, belief in the heart, deeds of the heart and actions of the limbs. Therefore, [إِيَّاكَ نَعْبُدُ–You alone we worship] is compliance with the rulings (attached) to these four foundations and consenting to them. On the other hand, [ وَإِيَّاكَ نَسْتَعِينُ  –And you alone we ask for help] is to seek Aid and Assistance in these affairs and asking to be blessed with the ability to [act upon them]. [Ref 9]

He [Imaam Ibnul Qayyim (rahimahullaah)] also said: I used to hear Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah (rahimahullaah) often saying: [إِيَّاكَ نَعْبُدُ–You alone we worship] repels Riyaa and [ وَإِيَّاكَ نَسْتَعِينُ  – And you alone we ask for help] repels pride.[Ref 10]

Shaikh Abdur Razzaaq Al-Badr [hafidhahullaah] said: The statement [إِيَّاكَ نَعْبُدُ – You (Alone) we worship] is an actualisation of the statement ‘There is no deity worthy of worship except Allaah’, and the statement [وإِيَّاكَ نَسْتَعِينُ – and You (Alone) we ask for help (for each and everything] is an actualisation of the statement ‘There is no power nor might except with Allah’. [Ref 11]

“وَلَا يَأۡمُرَكُمۡ أَن تَتَّخِذُواْ ٱلۡمَلَٰٓئِكَةَ وَٱلنَّبِيِّـۧنَ أَرۡبَابًاۚ أَيَأۡمُرُكُم بِٱلۡكُفۡرِ بَعۡدَ إِذۡ أَنتُم مُّسۡلِمُونَ”

“Nor would he order you to take angels and Prophets for lords (gods). Would he order you to disbelieve after you have submitted to Allah’s Will?” [Surah Aal-Imraan, Aayah 80]

What can be taken from this verse is that Ar-Rabb (Lord) can be used and intended to mean Al-Ilaah [The only deity who has the right to be worshipped],  just like Al-Ilaah can also be used and intended to mean Ar-Rabb. And due to this reason, Shaykh Muhammad Ibn Abdul Wahhaab رحمه الله said that when Ar-Rabb and Al-Ilaah are mentioned together they have different meanings; so the meaning of Ar-Rabb would be Al-Khaaliq (The Creator), Ar-Raaziq (The Provider), Al-Muhyee (The One who gives life) and Al-Mumeet (The one who causes death), and the meaning of Al-Ilaah would be Al-Ma’bood (The One who is worshipped). And when one of them is mentioned on their own, the meaning of the other is included; so if Ar-Rabb is mentioned only then it includes the meaning of Al-Ilaah and when Al-Ilaah is mentioned only then it includes the meaning of Ar-Rabb. An example of this is His [i.e. Allaah’s] statement:

” و لَا يَأۡمُرَكُمۡ أَن تَتَّخِذُواْ ٱلۡمَلَٰٓئِكَةَ وَٱلنَّبِيِّـۧنَ أَرۡبَابًاۚ أَيَأۡمُرُكُم بِٱلۡكُفۡرِ بَعۡدَ إِذۡ أَنتُم مُّسۡلِمُونَ”

“Nor would he order you to take angels and Prophets for lords (gods). Would he order you to disbelieve after you have submitted to Allah’s Will?

Meaning “as objects of worship besides Allah سبحانه وتعالى”.

[2] Excerpts From Tafseer of Surah An-Nahl – Referred to As Surah An-Ni’am By Some of The Scholars [Aayaat 3-9]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

He has created the heavens and the earth in truth. High be He Exalted above all they associate as partners with Him. He has created the human being from Nutfah (mixed drops of male and female sexual discharge), then behold, this same (human being) becomes an open opponent. And the cattle, He has created them for you; in them there is warmth and numerous benefits, and of them you eat. And wherein is beauty for you, when you bring them home in the evening, and as you lead them forth to pasture in the morning. And they carry your loads to a land that you could not reach except with great trouble to yourselves. Truly, your Lord is full of Kindness, Most Merciful. And (He has created) horses, mules and donkeys, for you to ride and as an adornment. And He creates (other) things of which you have no knowledge. And upon Allaah is the responsibility to explain the Straight Path (i.e. Islamic Monotheism for mankind i.e. to show them legal and illegal, good and evil things, etc. so, whosoever accepts the guidance, it will be for his own benefit and whosoever goes astray, it will be for his own destruction), but there are ways that turn aside (such as Paganism, distorted Judaism and Christianity after the departure of Musa and Eesaa etc.). And had He willed, He would have guided you all (mankind). [Surah An-Nahl. Aayaat 3-9]

This Surah is called Surah An-Ni’am [the Surah of blessings], because in the beginning Allaah mentions the original sources of blessings and their foundations, and at the end of it He mentions the things that complement and perfect them.

Allaah informs us that He created the heavens and the earth in truth, so that people may know – by way of clear proofs – the greatness of the Creator of the heavens and the earth, and that which He possesses of Perfect Attributes; and so that they know that He created both of them as a dwelling place for His slaves who worship Him based on that which He has commanded of beliefs and acts of worship, which He sent down through the speech of His Messengers. And due to this, He frees Himself from that which the polytheists ascribe to Him, saying: [تَعَـٰلَىٰ عَمَّا يُشۡرِكُونَ  – High be He Exalted above all they associate as partners with him] – Meaning, He is far above and greater – [i.e. and free is He from all likeness, co-equals, deficiencies, faults and weaknesses, and He alone is described with all attributes of perfection] – than the partners they associate with Him, because indeed He is the Only True Deity besides whom none else should be worshipped, loved and shown humility.

After mentioning the creation of the heavens and the earth, He then mentioned that which is in both of them, and He started by mentioning the noblest and that is the human being. He said: [خَلَقَ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ مِن نُّطۡفَةٍ۬   – He has created the human being from Nutfah (mixed drops of male and female sexual discharge)]- Meaning, He did not cease organising and looking after its affair, alternating it from one state to another higher state of development and growth, until it became a complete human being – with perfect external and internal limbs [i.e. mental and physical faculties].

Thereafter, He granted the human being abundant blessings, but when the human being reached this complete physical and mental state, he becomes boastful and self-amazed, [فَإِذَا هُوَ خَصِيمٌ۬ مُّبِينٌ۬  – then behold, this same (human being) becomes an open opponent]- Meaning, either argues against his Lord, disbelieves [and shows ingratitude], argues against the Messengers of his Lord, belies the Aayaat [signs, proofs, revelations] of his Lord and forgets how he started as a created being; and that which Allaah has granted him of blessings, he utilises it to commit acts of disobedience; or this may mean that Allaah created this offspring of Aadam [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] from a drop of semen and did not cease alternating him from one state to another until he becomes a complete sane person with intellect; with the ability to think, argue and engage in discussion; therefore the servant should thank his Lord Who brought him to this stage in which he had no ability to acquire anything from them.

[And the cattle, He has created them for you; in them there is warmth (warm clothing), and numerous benefits, and of them you eat. And wherein is beauty for you, when you bring them home in the evening, and as you lead them forth to pasture in the morning. And they carry your loads to a land that you could not reach except with great trouble to yourselves. Truly, your Lord is full of Kindness, Most Merciful] – Meaning: Allaah created them for you – for your benefit and wellbeing. And from its great benefits is that you have warmth from them by making clothing, beddings and tents from their wool, hirsute, their hairs and skins; and you have other benefits in them and eat from their [meat]. [وَلَكُمۡ فِيهَا جَمَالٌ حِينَ تُرِيحُونَ وَحِينَ تَسۡرَحُونَ – And wherein is beauty for you, when you bring them home in the evening, and as you lead them forth to pasture in the morning] – Meaning, at the time when they are going to take a rest in the evening and when they are being taken out to graze. This is because the cattle do not [enjoy] any of that beauty [seen from them], but rather indeed you are the ones who enjoy their beauty, just as you beautify yourselves with your clothing, children and wealth, and you adore that.  [وَتَحۡمِلُ أَثۡقَالَڪُمۡ إِلَىٰ بَلَدٍ۬ لَّمۡ تَكُونُواْ بَـٰلِغِيهِ إِلَّا بِشِقِّ ٱلۡأَنفُسِ‌ۚ ۬ – And they carry your loads to a land that you could not reach except with great trouble to yourselves. Truly, your Lord is full of Kindness, Most Merciful]- Meaning, you ride on some of them and others carry what you desire of heavy loads to faraway lands and regions. [إِنَّ رَبَّكُمۡ لَرَءُوفٌ۬ رَّحِيمٌ۬ – Truly, your Lord is full of Kindness, Most Merciful]- Meaning, He subjugated to you that which you need and cannot do without.

[وَٱلۡخَيۡلَ وَٱلۡبِغَالَ وَٱلۡحَمِيرَ لِتَرۡڪَبُوهَا وَزِينَةً۬‌ۚ – (He has created) horses, mules and donkeys, for you to ride and as an adornment] – Meaning, sometimes you utilise them for riding and at other times for beauty and beautification. [وَيَخۡلُقُ مَا لَا تَعۡلَمُونَ –  And He creates (other) things of which you have no knowledge]- Meaning, the things utilised by the people as means of transportation on land, at sea and in the air, and that which they utilise for their benefit and wellbeing after the revelation of the Qur’aan, because indeed Allaah did not mention them specifically; rather He [The Exalted] – in His Book – did not mention except what His servants knew at the time or its similarity. As for if he mentioned that which had no similarity at the time, then they would neither have known it nor understood what is intended by it; therefore he mentioned the basis [or the foundation of an affair] which included the things they knew and the things they did not know, just as Allaah mentioned the bliss in paradise and named the things we know and have seen their similarity, such as date palm trees, grapes and pomegranates, and then He mentioned in general the things whose similarity is unknown to us, as He stated in another Aayah: [فِيہِمَا مِن كُلِّ فَـٰكِهَةٍ۬ زَوۡجَانِ   – In them (both) will be every kind of fruit in pairs]. Likewise, in this Aayah [i.e. An-Nahl Aayah 8], Allaah mentioned the transportation we know, such as horses, mules, donkeys, camels and ships, and mentioned in general the others, saying: [وَيَخۡلُقُ مَا لَا تَعۡلَمُونَ –  And He creates (other) things of which you have no knowledge].

After mentioning the tangible path and that He created for the servants that which they utilise for journeys, such as camels and other them, He then mentioned the religious path that leads to His [Pleasure]; so He said: [وَعَلَى ٱللَّهِ قَصۡدُ ٱلسَّبِيلِ وَمِنۡهَا جَآٮِٕرٌ۬‌ۚ – And upon Allah is the responsibility to explain the Straight Path (i.e. Islamic Monotheism for mankind i.e. to show them legal and illegal, good and evil things, etc. so, whosoever accepts the guidance, it will be for his own benefit and whosoever goes astray, it will be for his own destruction), but there are ways that turn aside (such as Paganism, distorted Judaism and Christianity after the departure of Musa and Eesaa etc.)] – Meaning, the straight path, and that is the only direct and genuine path that leads to the [pleasure] of Allaah. As for the path that turn aside in creed and deeds, it is everything that opposes the straight path, because it severs a person from the path of Allaah and leads to the destination of misery; therefore those who are rightly guided traverse the straight path by the permission of their Lord, and the deviated ones deviate from it.

[وَلَوۡ شَآءَ لَهَدَٮٰڪُمۡ أَجۡمَعِينَ – And had He willed, He would have guided you all (mankind)]- Meaning, but He guided some out of His kindness and Grace, and did not guide others based on His Perfect Wisdom and Justice. [Ref 1] This happens based on Allaah’s Perfect Wisdom and Just Decree, as recompense for one’s wickedness. [Ref 2] Such a person was not forced to go astray, rather he made a choice, even though his choice is under the Will of Allaah. We do not know what was in the hearts of those who deviated, but we know – with absolute certainty – that Allaah passes Just Judgments and He does not commit injustice against anything; rather it is the people who wrong themselves. [Ref 3]

Az-Zujaaj [rahimahullaah] said, “It is Allaah who will clarify the straight path and call to it with Hujaj [i.e. clear and overwhelming proofs that defeats all the obstinate and stubborn ones] and Burhaan [i.e. proofs that clarify and distinguish between truth and falsehood in everything]; “But there are ways that turn aside”; Ibn Abbaas [radiyallaahu-anhumaa] said, “They are the different types of desires [i.e. evil desires]”. Ibnul Mubaarak [rahimahullaah] said, “They are the (evil) desires and the innovations in religion”. [Ref 4]
