[Social Sciences] – Imagine The Corruption When Children Are Nurtured By Blind Followers Or Ideologues Who Know How to Manipulate These Six Levels of Comprehension!

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Imaam Muhammad Ibn Saaleh al-Uthaymeen [rahimahullaah] said:

Knowledge (Ilm) is to comprehend the reality of something as it truly is, with certainty.

The levels of comprehension are six:

[Al ‘Ilm – Knowledge], which is to comprehend the reality of something as it truly is, with certainty.

[Al Jahlul Baseet- slight ignorance], which is absence of full comprehension.

[Al Jahlul Murakkab-, Aggravated/compounded ignorance], which is to comprehend something in a way contrary to its true reality.

[Al Wahm – Delusion], which is to think that one comprehends something despite the presence of that which should cause you to realize that you are incorrect.

[Ash Shakk- Doubt], which is to think that you comprehend something, yet you are aware of something contrary to it which you think has the same possibility of being the truth.

[Dhann – Preponderant belief], which is comprehension of something, despite the presence of something which is contrary to it, but which is less likely to be true.

[32] The Three Monotheistic Religions! [Brief Observations On This Statement Uttered By Writers Who Are Ignorant About Islaam And Misguided Modernists Speaking In The Name of Islaam]: Rebuttal Against One Who Attributes Falsehood to Others And Passes Judgement on Them

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Firstly: We repeat once again the fact that rebutting false beliefs, ideas and views does not necessitate bad behaviour, rather Muslims are commanded to behave well towards others.

To Proceed:

Allaah [The Most High] said:

–Say (O Muhammad): “O people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians): Come to a word that is just between us and you, that we worship none but Allah, and that we associate no partners with Him, and that none of us shall take others as lords besides Allah. Then, if they turn away, say: “Bear witness that we are Muslims]. [Surah Aal Imraan. Aayah 64]

Meaning: say to the people of the scripture – the Jews and Christians,

[تَعَالَوۡاْ إِلَىٰ ڪَلِمَةٍ۬ سَوَآءِۭ بَيۡنَنَا وَبَيۡنَكُمۡ – Come to a word that is just between us and you]- Meaning: Come let us unite upon the statement which all the Prophets and Messengers agreed upon and none opposes it except the obstinate and misguided. This statement is not specific to anyone of us; rather it is something that you and us should establish between us, so this is justice and fairness in debate. Then Allaah explains this and said:

[أَلَّا نَعۡبُدَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهَ وَلَا نُشۡرِكَ بِهِۦ شَيۡـًٔ۬ا  –  that we worship none but Allah, and that we associate no partners with Him]- Meaning: We should single out Allaah in worship, devoting all love, fear and hope to Him alone, and we should not associate anyone as partner with Allaah in worship- neither a Prophet, an Angel, a Righteous Person, an Idol, a Deified image, a living or non-living thing, [وَلَا يَتَّخِذَ بَعۡضُنَا بَعۡضًا أَرۡبَابً۬ا مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ‌ۚ  – and that none of us shall take others as lords besides Allaah]; rather all obedience is to be devoted to Allah and His Messengers. [فَإِن تَوَلَّوۡاْ فَقُولُواْ ٱشۡهَدُواْ بِأَنَّا مُسۡلِمُونَ – Then, if they turn away, say: “Bear witness that we are Muslims]”. [Tafsir As-Sadi]

The Christians [i.e. those deviated ones whom Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah refuted] said that the Jews [i.e. those Jews who deviated] committed a severe act of disbelief because they affirmed the Trinity but denied its meaning; so Shaikhul Islaam [rahimahullaah] replied to them in brief as follows:

This is a manifest slander against those Jews. Even though those Jews are disbelievers, but their disbelief was not due to their rejection of the trinity, and had they affirmed the trinity they would have increased in their disbelief that which would increase their punishment; rather they have something in the Tawraat that which nullifies the Trinity which is not hidden except from the one who has wilfully turned away from Allaah’s revelation.

[Al-Jawaabus Saheeh Liman Baddala Deen Al-Maseeh. 2/203]

This above statement of Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah [rahimahullaah] clearly shows that the upright scholars of Islaam stand firm for Justice even on behalf of those who deviated from Allaah’s revelation.

Allaah [The Exalted ] said:

And they divided not till after knowledge had come to them, through selfish transgression between themselves. And had it not been for a Word that went forth before from your Lord for an appointed term, the matter would have been settled between them. And verily, those who were made to inherit the Scripture [i.e. the Taurah (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] after them (i.e. Jews and Christians) are in grave doubt concerning it (i.e. Allah’s true religion Islam or the Qur’an). So unto this (religion of Islam, alone and this Qur’an) then invite (people) (O Muhammad), and Istaqim [(i.e. stand firm and straight on Islamic Monotheism by performing all that is ordained by Allah (good deeds, etc.), and by abstaining from all that is forbidden by Allah (sins and evil deeds, etc.)], as you are commanded, and follow not their desires but say: “I believe in whatsoever Allah has sent down of the Book and I am commanded to do justice among you, Allah is our Lord and your Lord. For us our deeds and for you your deeds. There is no dispute between us and you. Allah will assemble us (all), and to Him is the final return.

Regarding the statement: [وَأُمِرۡتُ لِأَعۡدِلَ بَيۡنَكُمُ‌ۖ  – and I am commanded to do justice among you]– Meaning, when passing judgement in that which you differ. O people of the Scripture! Your enmity and hatred will not stop me from doing justice between you and between people who hold different views – whether amongst the people of the Scripture or other than them – by accepting that which is with them of truth and rejecting what is with them of falsehood.

[ٱللَّهُ رَبُّنَا وَرَبُّكُمۡ‌ۖ – Allah is our Lord and your Lord], Meaning: Allaah is the Lord of everyone and you are not more worthy of being His servant than us. [لَنَآ أَعۡمَـٰلُنَا وَلَكُمۡ أَعۡمَـٰلُڪُمۡ‌ۖ   – For us our deeds and for you your deeds], Meaning: Good and evil. [لَا حُجَّةَ بَيۡنَنَا وَبَيۡنَكُمُ‌ۖ  –  There is no dispute between us and you], Meaning, after the realities have been manifested and thus truth is made clear as opposed to falsehood, guidance made clear as opposed to misguidance; then there remains no room for debate and disagreement, because the aim behind debate is to clarify and distinguish truth from falsehood, so that the guided one is guided by way of it and the evidence is established against the deviated one. Therefore, this Aayah does not mean that the people of the Scripture are not debated with, because Allaah [The Exalted] stated in another Aayah:

[وَلَا تُجَـٰدِلُوٓاْ أَهۡلَ ٱلۡڪِتَـٰبِ إِلَّا بِٱلَّتِى هِىَ أَحۡسَنُ – And argue not with the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians), unless it be in (a way) that is better (with good words and in good manner, inviting them to Islamic Monotheism with His Verses)]. [Surah Al-Ankabut. Aayah 46]

[ٱللَّهُ يَجۡمَعُ بَيۡنَنَا‌ۖ وَإِلَيۡهِ ٱلۡمَصِير –  Allah will assemble us (all), and to Him is the final return], meaning: on the day of resurrection, and everyone will be rewarded based on his deeds, and the truthful one will be distinguished from the liar.

[An Excerpt from Tafseer As-Sadi. Slightly paraphrased]

Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah [rahimahullah] also said:

And when it is case that the true followers of the Prophets [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon them] are people of knowledge and justice, therefore the speech of the people of Islaam and the true adherents to the Prophetic Sunnah regarding the unbelievers and the proponents of religious innovations has to be based on knowledge and justice, and not conjecture and what the soul desires. And due to this the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said: “The judges are three: one will go to Paradise and two to Hell. A man who knows the truth and judges with it will enter paradise; a man who knows the truth but judges with the opposite of it will enter the fire, and a man who judges for the people based on ignorance will enter the fire’’. [Reported by Imaam Abu Dawud 3573]

And when it is the case that the one who judges between the people in [affairs] of wealth, blood [i.e. murder cases, physical violence etc] and honour will enter the hell fire if he is not a just scholar, then how about the one who passes judgements – without knowledge and justice – on creeds, religions, the fundamentals of belief,  divine knowledge and the general fundamental principles related to different subject matters, as is the case with ahlul bidah wal ahwaa [the proponents of religious innovations and desires]- those who follow the ambiguous doubtful matters, abandon those explicitly clear texts that have been transmitted by the Prophets [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon them], cling to affairs that share an ambiguous similarity through mere analogy and opinions,  and then present affairs whose differences can neither be reconciled nor equated, just as is the case with the unbelievers and all the proponents of religious innovation and followers of desires, who liken the creation to the Creator [i.e. they give the creation the Perfect Attributes that only belong to the Creator], and liken the Creator to the creation [i.e. by describing the Creator with the imperfect attributes of the Creation], and then they put forward an evil similitude for Allaah by way of thoughtless and confusing speech. This is because the false religion of the Christians is an innovated [or concocted] religion- innovated after the departure of the Messiah [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] and altered the religion of the Messiah through it; so they deviated from the Messiah’s [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] path and remained upon that which they innovated.

[Al-Jawaabus Saheeh 1/26-30. Slightly paraphrased]

What Influences a Musician to Utter Disbelief or Belittles Allaah, The Messengers of Allah and Allaah’s Angels, or Utters Sin By Insulting Allaah’s Pious Servants?!

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah [rahimahullaah] stated regarding the effect of Music upon the souls:

*It is the intoxicant of the souls.

*When the souls are intoxicated with the sounds [from Music and musical instruments], Shirk [gradually] comes to them; they incline towards lewd acts and oppression, and thus they begin to commit Shirk, murder and fornication. These three deeds are present – a lot – amongst the people who listen to music. [Ref 1]

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [rahimahullaah] said:

“That which we and others have witnessed, and know based on experience, is that indeed musical instruments and instruments used for forbidden amusement do not appear amongst a people, spread amongst them and they busy themselves with it, except that Allaah [allows] their enemy to overcome them, and they are afflicted with famine, drought and evil rulers (ref 2). Therefore, the sensible person reflects on the state of affairs of the world and examines. And Allaah’s Aid is sought! [Ref 3]

Reminder to The Musician Who Belittles Allaah’s Angel Israafeel

Allaah [The Most High] said:

Say (O Muhammad Peace be upon him ): “Whoever is an enemy to Jibrael (Gabriel) (let him die in his fury), for indeed he has brought it (this Qur’an) down to your heart by Allah’s Permission, confirming what came before it [i.e. the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and guidance and glad tidings for the believers. “Whoever is an enemy to Allah, His Angels, His Messengers, Jibrael (Gabriel) and Mikael (Michael), then verily, Allah is an enemy to the disbelievers.” [Ref 4]

Israafeel is one of Allaah’s noble angels mentioned specifically in the authentic Sunnah. The Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] used to say in a supplication of the night prayer – after Takbeer and before recitation:

O Allaah! Lord of Jibraa’eel, Meekaa’eel and Israafeel, Creator of the heavens and the Earth, The Knower of the seen and the unseen. You judge  between Your slaves regarding in that which they differ. Guide me to the truth regarding that in which there is differing, by Your Will. Verily, You guide whomever you will to the straight path. [Ref 5]

The scholars say that these creations [i.e. Jibraa’eel, Meekaa’eel, Israafeel, the heavens and the earth] have been specifically mentioned, even though Allaah is the Creator of all the creation, just as has been established in the Qur’aan and authentic Sunnah with regards to the specific mention of every created thing that has a great and mighty status as one of Allaah’s creation, such as the statement, “Lord of the Heavens and the Earth”, “Lord of the Supreme Throne”, “Lord of the Angels and Jibreel”, “The Lord of the two Easts (places of sunrise during early summer and early winter) and the Lord of the two Wests (places of sunset during early summer and early winter)”, “The Lord of Humankind”, “The King of Humankind”, “The Only True God of Humankind”, “The Lord of all Created Things”, “The Lord of the Prophets”, The Creator of the Heavens and the Earth”, “The Originator of the Heavens and the Earth” etc. All these things and what is similar to them shows Allaah’s greatness, All-encompassing Power and absolute Sovereignty. [Ref 6]

In this supplication, one employs the means of seeking Allaah’s [love, aid, pleasure, assistance etc] by way of belief and affirmation that He is the Lord – in general and specific – of these three Angels, who have been given a means of giving life. Jibra’eel is given the responsibility to convey the revelation [to the Prophets] by way of which the hearts and souls are given that type of life which necessitates the presence of sound belief in the heart that leads to all righteous deeds. Meekaa’eel is given the responsibility to bring the rain by way of which the earth, the vegetation and animals are given life, and Israafeel is given the responsibility to blow the trumpet by way of which the creation are resurrected after their death. Also employing the means of seeking Allaah’s [love, aid, assistance, pleasure etc] by way of belief and affirmation that Allaah alone is the Originator of the heavens and earth, meaning, He is their Creator and the one who brought them into existence prior to their non-existence, and that He is the knower of the unseen and the seen- meaning, the hidden and apparent, and due to the fact that He alone is the One Who judges between the servants in that which they differ, so that He guides you to the truth in that which they differ.

As for guidance, it is knowledge of the truth together with having the intent to follow the truth, and preferring it over other things. The guided person is that one who acts upon the truth and desires it, and it is the Greatest blessing of Allaah bestowed on the servants. We ask Allaah to guide us all to the straight path and grant us every good. [Ref 7]

Abu Hurayrah [radiyallaahu-anhu] said, “The Messenger of Allaah [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] said, ‘The gaze of the one who will blow the Trumpet has been fixed since he was entrusted with it, looking towards the throne, ready (to blow it), in case he will be commanded to do so before he blinks, as if his eyes are two shining stars’”. [Ref 8]

May Allaah protect us from disbelief, sin and transgression Aameen.

Following a Religion other than Islaam – Shaykh Saaleh Al-Fawzaan

Shaikh Saaleh al Fawzaan حفظه الله comments regarding the statement of Allaah [The Most High]:

“وَمَن يَبۡتَغِ غَيۡرَ ٱلۡإِسۡلَٰمِ دِينٗا فَلَن يُقۡبَلَ مِنۡهُ وَهُوَ فِي ٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ مِنَ ٱلۡخَٰسِرِينَ”

“And whoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it will never be accepted of him, and in the Hereafter he will be one of the losers.”  Surah Aal-E-Imran, Ayah 85

First Benefit:

The definition of Islaam, which is to submit to Allah with Tawhid (singling out Allaah with all worship), obeying him and freeing oneself from shirk (worshipping other than him) and its people. This is Islaam.

Second Benefit:

It is false to adhere to all other religions, except Islaam- the religion which Allaah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] brought; meaning, those religions are false after they have been abrogated, for indeed it is not allowed to act upon what has been abrogated because this is acting upon a divine legislation whose time has elapsed, so whoever remains upon it is following a religion other than the religion ordained by Allaah.

Third Benefit:

It is obligated on the people of the scripture to follow Muhammad (ﷺ) because his religion is Islaam. As for following other than Muhammad (ﷺ) then this is not considered to be Islaam because it has been abrogated and its time has elapsed, and all the people of the earth are now commanded to follow Muhammad (ﷺ).

Fourth Benefit:

Whoever dies whilst following a religion other than Islaam, then he will be from the people of the hell fire, because Allah (The Most High) said:

“فَلَن يُقۡبَلَ مِنۡهُ وَهُوَ فِي ٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ مِنَ ٱلۡخَٰسِرِينَ…”

“….it will never be accepted of him, and in the Hereafter he will be one of the losers”

and Allah (The Most High) said:

” إِنَّهُۥ مَن يُشۡرِكۡ بِٱللَّهِ فَقَدۡ حَرَّمَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيۡهِ ٱلۡجَنَّةَ وَمَأۡوَىٰهُ ٱلنَّارُۖ وَمَا لِلظَّٰلِمِينَ مِنۡ أَنصَار…”

“Verily, whosoever sets up partners in worship with Allah, then Allah has forbidden Paradise for him, and the Fire will be his abode. And for the Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers) there are no helpers.” Surah Al-Ma’idah, Ayah 72

ِand He (The Most High) said regarding the Hell Fire:  “أُعِدَّتۡ لِلۡكَٰفِرِينَ..”  “prepared for the disbelievers.” Surah Al-Baqarah, Ayah 24

Fifth Benefit:

This verse is a refutation against all innovations and newly invented matters in the religion, because they do not belong to the religion of Islaam, even if the person claims that he is seeking Allaah’s Pleasure and Reward by way of it and that he is upon obedience and desires good, but rather his worship through acts of innovation and newly invented matters in the religion will make him from amongst the losers [of those deeds] in the hereafter, because he is following a religion other than Islaam [in relation to those innovated acts of worship].

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “‏ “‏من عمل عملا ليس عليه أمرنا فهو رد

“Whoever performs an action contrary to our way (i.e., Islam) will have it rejected. [MUSLIM]

and He (ﷺ) said: “وَإِيَّاكُمْ وَمُحْدَثَاتِ الْأُمُورِ؛ فَإِنَّ كُلَّ بِدْعَةٍ ضَلَالَةٌ…”

Beware of newly invented matters [in the religion], for verily every newly invented matter in the religion is an innovation in religion, and every innovation in the religion is misguidance.” [Reported by Abu Dawud]

The people of bidah are different from each other with regards to how distant they are from the religion and exiting its legislation, because amongst them are those who completely exit the religion if their bidah is tantamount to major disbelief, such as the bidah of worshipping graves and tombs, sacrificing to other than Allah and vowing to other than Allah, for indeed these are religious innovations that are tantamount to major disbelief and it exits a person from Islaam, because it is ascribing partners to Allaah in worship. (Ref 1)

And if the bidah does not necessitate apostasy, then it is still an act of misguidance,  as he (ﷺ) said: “Verily every newly invented matter in the religion is an innovation in religion, and every innovation in religion is misguidance.” This type of bidah causes a person’s Eemaan (faith) to be deficient and distances him from the religion in accordance to the bidah that is committed, however the person is neither judged to be a disbeliever nor that he’ll remain in the hell fire forever, even though – as the scholars have stated – a bidah is a path that can lead to disbelief; it can lead a person bit by bit until he exits the religion of Islam.

Ref 1: NB: Even if a person falls into major disbelief or major shirk, then still it is not the responsibility of anyone to declare such a person a disbeliever, rather his affair is dealt with by the scholars. A Brief Reminder – Regarding The Noble Angels of Allaah – In The Face of Those Fujjaar  [Wicked Sinners] Who Seek to Degrade Their Status

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ فَاطِرِ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ جَاعِلِ الْمَلَائِكَةِ رُسُلًا أُولِي أَجْنِحَةٍ مَثْنَى وَثُلَاثَ وَرُبَاعَ يَزِيدُ فِي الْخَلْقِ مَا يَشَاءُ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

All the praises and thanks be to Allah, the (only) Originator [or the (only) Creator] of the heavens and the earth, Who made the angels messengers with wings, – two or three or four. He increases in creation what He wills. Verily, Allah is Able to do all things. [Surah Al-Faatir. Aayah 1]

Shaikh Abdur Razzaaq Al-Badr [hafidhahullaah] said:

The Angels were created from light and the (origin) of the children of Aadam is clay; however Sound Aqeedah creates a bond between these two creatures- Angels and the pious people amongst the children of Aadam. Allaah (The Most High) said:

Those (angels) who bear the Throne (of Allaah) and those around it glorify the praises of their Lord, and believe in Him, and ask forgiveness for those who believe (in the Oneness of Allaah) (saying): ‘’Our Lord! You comprehend all things in mercy and knowledge, so forgive those who repent and follow Your way, and save them from the torment of the blazing fire.’’ [40:7]

The angels believe in Allaah and constantly supplicate to Allaah. They ask Allaah to forgive the believers and to enter them into paradise.  This is a great and amazing bond despite the fact that they (angels) are a different from humans, however it is the sound Aqeedah that unites their hearts. [1] Likewise, the righteous slaves of Allaah amongst human beings love the angels. [2]

“Whoever is an enemy to Allah, His Angels, His Messengers, Jibrael (Gabriel) and Mikael (Michael), then verily, Allah is an enemy to the disbelievers.” [Surah Al-Baqarah. Aayaat 97-98]

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

شَهِدَ اللَّهُ أَنَّهُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ وَالْمَلَائِكَةُ وَأُولُو الْعِلْمِ قَائِمًا بِالْقِسْطِ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الْحَكِيمُ

Allah bears witness that La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He), and the angels, and those having knowledge (also give this witness); (He is always) maintaining His creation in Justice. La ilah illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He), the All-Mighty, the All-Wise [Surah Aal Imraan. Aayah 18]

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

O you who believe! Believe in Allah, and His Messenger (Muhammad), and the Book (the Qur’an) which He has sent down to His Messenger, and the Scripture which He sent down to those before (him), and whosoever disbelieves in Allah, His Angels, His Books, His Messengers, and the Last Day, then indeed he has strayed far away. [Surah An-Nisaa. Aayah 136]

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

لَكِنِ اللَّهُ يَشْهَدُ بِمَا أَنْزَلَ إِلَيْكَ أَنْزَلَهُ بِعِلْمِهِ وَالْمَلَائِكَةُ يَشْهَدُونَ وَكَفَى بِاللَّهِ شَهِيدًا

But Allah bears witness to that which He has sent down (the Qur’an) unto you (O Muhammad), He has sent it down with His Knowledge, and the angels bear witness. And Allah is All-Sufficient as a Witness. [Surah An-Nisaa. Aayah 166]

Allaah [The Exlated] said:

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ عِنْدَ رَبِّكَ لَا يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ عَنْ عِبَادَتِهِ وَيُسَبِّحُونَهُ وَلَهُ يَسْجُدُونَ

Surely, those who are with your Lord (angels) are never too proud to perform acts of worship to Him, but they glorify His Praise and prostrate before Him. [Surah Al-A’raaf. Aayah 206]

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

الَّذِينَ تَتَوَفَّاهُمُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ ظَالِمِي أَنْفُسِهِمْ فَأَلْقَوُا السَّلَمَ مَا كُنَّا نَعْمَلُ مِنْ سُوءٍ بَلَى إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَلِيمٌ بِمَا كُنْتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ

“Those whose lives the angels take while they are doing wrong to themselves (by disbelief and by associating partners in worship with Allah and by committing all kinds of crimes and evil deeds).” Then, they will make (false) submission (saying): “We used not to do any evil.” (The angels will reply): “Yes! Truly, Allah is All-Knower of what you used to do. [Surah An-Nahl. Aayah 28]

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

Those whose lives the angels take while they are in a pious state (i.e. pure from all evil, and worshipping none but Allah Alone) saying (to them): Salamun ‘Alaikum (peace be on you) enter you Paradise, because of (the good) which you used to do (in the world).” Do they (the disbelievers and polytheists) await but that the angels should come to them [to take away their souls (at death)], or there should come the command (i.e. the torment or the Day of Resurrection) of your Lord? Thus did those before them. And Allah wronged them not, but they used to wrong themselves. [Surah An-Nahl Aayaat 32-33]

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

وَلَهُ مَنْ فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَنْ عِنْدَهُ لَا يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ عَنْ عِبَادَتِهِ وَلَا يَسْتَحْسِرُونَ

يُسَبِّحُونَ اللَّيْلَ وَالنَّهَارَ لَا يَفْتُرُونَ

To Him belongs whosoever is in the heavens and on earth. And those who are near Him (i.e. the angels) are not too proud to worship Him, nor are they weary (of His worship). They (i.e. the angels) glorify His Praises night and day, (and) they never slacken (to do so). [Surah Al-Anbiyaa. Aayaat 19-20]

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

وَيَوْمَ تَشَقَّقُ السَّمَاءُ بِالْغَمَامِ وَنُزِّلَ الْمَلَائِكَةُ تَنْزِيلً

الْمُلْكُ يَوْمَئِذٍ الْحَقُّ لِلرَّحْمَنِ وَكَانَ يَوْمًا عَلَى الْكَافِرِينَ عَسِيرًا

And (remember) the Day when the heaven shall be rent asunder with clouds, and the angels will be sent down, with a grand descending. The sovereignty on that Day will be the true (sovereignty), belonging to the Most Beneficent (Allah), and it will be a hard Day for the disbelievers (those who disbelieve in the Oneness of Allah Islamic Monotheism). [Surah Al-Furqan. Aayah 25-26]

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

Verily, the Mujrimun (criminals, sinners, disbelievers, etc.) will be in the torment of Hell to abide therein forever. (The torment) will not be lightened for them, and they will be plunged into destruction with deep regrets, sorrows and in despair therein. We wronged them not, but they were the Zalimun (polytheists, wrong-doers, etc.). And they will cry: “O Malik (Keeper of Hell)! Let your Lord make an end of us.” He will say: “Verily you shall abide forever.” [Surah Az-Zukhruf. Aayaat 74-77]

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

يَوْمَ يَقُومُ الرُّوحُ وَالْمَلَائِكَةُ صَفًّا لَا يَتَكَلَّمُونَ إِلَّا مَنْ أَذِنَ لَهُ الرَّحْمَنُ وَقَالَ صَوَابًا

The Day that Ar-Ruh [Jibrael (Gabriel) or another angel] and the angels will stand forth in rows, none shall speak except him whom the Most Beneficent (Allah) allows, and he will speak what is right. [Surah An-Naba. Aayah 38]

Allaah [The Most High] said:

And if you could see when the angels take away the souls of those who disbelieve (at death), they smite their faces and their backs, (saying): “Taste the punishment of the blazing Fire.” “This is because of that which your hands had forwarded. And verily, Allah is not unjust to His slaves.” [Surah Al-Anfaal. Aayaat 50-51]

Israafeel [alayhis salaam]

Abu Hurayrah [radiyallaahu-anhu] said, “The Messenger of Allaah [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] said, ‘The gaze of the one who will blow the Trumpet has been fixed since he was entrusted with it, looking towards the throne, ready (to blow it), in case he will be commanded to do so before he blinks, as if his eyes are two shining stars’”

Two Haughty Categories of Youth And Short-sighted People Who Desperately Seek to Isolate Others From The Study Circles of Upright Salafi Teachers In The Masaajid And Maraakiz

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

A Reminder Regarding Humility to Those Who Say:

“Such and Such Is Studying at An Institution or Has Received a Certificate of Graduation, So He Is Not In Need of Any Other Student, Even If They Have Tazkiyyaat From Some of The Kibaarul Ulamaa”.

Imaam al-Bukhaari [rahimahullaah] said:

A man will not become well facilitated [or prepared] until he takes knowledge from one above him, one similar to him and one below him. [Ref 1]

Imaam Abdullaah Ibnul Mubaarak [rahimahullaah] said, “A man will be from the [students or scholars] of Hadeeth until he writes from someone similar to him, someone above him and someone below him. [Ref 2]

Imaam Sufyaan Ibn Uyaynah [rahimahullaah] said, “A man will not be from the [students or scholars] of Hadeeth until he takes from someone above him, someone below him and someone similar to him”. [Ref 3]

Shaikh Rabee Bin Haadee Al-Madkhalee [hafidhahullaah] said:

The entire life of a person is spent in seeking knowledge – from the cradle to the grave.  He does not feel proud to acquire truth from a young or older person and he never rejects truth, whether it is stated by a Muslim or Unbeliever.

Moosaa [alayhis salaam] was spoken to directly by Allaah and the Tawraat was revealed to him, which contained Hudaa [i.e. that which guides a person to Eemaan, truth and protects one from misguidance] and Noor [i.e. a guiding light in the midst of the darkness of ignorance, confusion, doubts, beliefs and deeds that appear to be truth but are falsehood in reality and evil desires], but when he knew that another person possessed knowledge of that which he did not possess, [Allaah informed us he (Moosaa) said]:

لَا أَبْرَحُ حَتَّىٰ أَبْلُغَ مَجْمَعَ الْبَحْرَيْنِ أَوْ أَمْضِيَ حُقُبًا

I will not give up (travelling) until I reach the junction of the two seas or (until) I spend years and years in travelling. [Surah Al-Kahf. Aayah 60]

He went on foot – neither had a car nor a riding beast, nor a horse; [rather] he travelled on foot. [Ref 4]

A Caution Regarding The Haughty Young One Who Is Raised Above His Rightful Status

Shaikh Rabee Bin Haadee [hafidhahullaah] said:

One of the obstacles that prevents people from knowledge is (when they) turn to the knowledge of the Asaaghir [the small ones] – and Allaah’s refuge is sought. And from the [minor] signs of the hour is that knowledge will be acquired from the young in age, who learn very little and thus considers himself an Aalim!

This person is young and a Miskeen [i.e. one lacking strength in the field of knowledge], but considers himself as one who has reached the highest level; so the ignoramuses come to him, gather around him and cut off from the scholars – and Allaah’s refuge is sought. This is one of the [minor] signs and portents of the hour, when the people abandon the senior scholars and embark upon acquiring knowledge from the ignorant young ones – those who pretend to be scholars. This is a calamity. Ibn Mas’ood [radiyallaahu-anhu] said: “The people will not cease to be upon good as long as they acquire knowledge from their elders, trustworthy ones and scholars.”

Contemplate on this statement, “And if they acquire knowledge from their young ones, they will be destroyed.” This is one of the obstacles and barriers to acquiring knowledge. It may be that some people desire knowledge, but he [i.e. an individual] becomes deceived by that young person and considers him to be the most knowledgeable of people. And had he gone to other than that young person, he would find that it is obligated on that young person to seek knowledge together with him, and sit down in the presence of the scholars. [Ref 5]

Shaikh Abdus Salaam [rahimahullaah] Burgess quotes the statements of the Salaf regarding knowledge of the young ones and then explains:

Knowledge [wages] war against the arrogant youth just as flood battles against an elevated place.

Shaikh Uthaymeen [rahimahullaah] said:

An arrogant youth is not able to acquire knowledge because knowledge [wages] war against him, ‘Just as flood battles against an elevated place’. This is true because an elevated place is approached by the flood – from right and left – to rise above it, but is unable to settle on it. [Ref 6]

Beware of the disease of the despots; (a) for indeed pride, avarice and [blameworthy] envy were the first (sins) Allaah was disobeyed with.(b) So, raising yourself above your teacher is pride (c); being arrogant towards the one who benefits you from amongst those who are below you is pride; (d) and your falling short in acting upon knowledge is a sludge of pride and an indication of being deprived.(c)

[a] The Prophet said: Pride is to reject the truth and mock at the people.

[b] This refers to shaytaan’s behaviour when he was commanded to prostrate to Aadam, but pride prevented him from doing so. He refused and was haughty.

[c] Raising oneself can either be by way of the tongue and it can also be by way of sentiments [feelings, attitude, behaviour etc]. He [i.e. the student] might be walking with his teacher, whilst swaggering and saying, “I did this and I did this”.

[d] Likewise, being arrogant towards the one who is below you in knowledge is pride. This also occurs from some of the students, and if someone below him in knowledge informs him of something, you find him arrogant and does not accept.

[e] We ask Allaah for well-being because from the types of pride is to not act upon the knowledge one knows. [Ref 7]

He Has Graduated or He is Studying For a Certificate, So He Has No Need of Someone Else

This – brothers and sisters – is not a disease that is present amongst our upright and well-known Salafi teachers in the UK, America and Canada, rather our teachers Alhamadulil laah are either elders who have Tazkiyyaat from the Kibaarul Ulamaa, such as Shaikh Rabee and Shaikh Ubaid, or they are upright graduates – whether younger or older. We sit in their presence – in the Masaajid and Maraakiz – to benefit from all of them. Our upright teachers are not afflicted with what has afflicted some of the people in some parts of Europe, whose certificates of graduation or proficiency in the Arabic language makes feel that they are above every other person. We see the likes of Ustaadh Abu Mu’aadh Taqweem Aslam [hafidhahullaah] – a graduate – siting with his note pad and taking notes during Birmingham conferences, and we’ve seen the likes of Ustaadh Abu Khadeejah [hafidhahullaah] sitting in Duroos of Ustaadh Abu Hakeem [hafidhahullaah]. It is not certificates that makes them value one another, rather they value one another because they recognise the fact that they are all Salafi Tullaabul Ilm, regardless their age and experiences.

Imaam Muhammad Ibn Saaleh Al-Uthaymeen (rahimahullaah) said that some of the people say, “Sincere intention in this present era of ours is difficult (to achieve) or it may be impossible because those who seek knowledge do so with the aim of receiving a certificate”. The Shaikh replied to this statement saying, that one’s intention is regarded to be corrupt if knowledge is sought in order to receive a certificate or a desire for an elevated worldly status. But a person’s intention is regarded to be good and not in opposition to sincerity if he wants an elevated status in order to benefit the people, because he knows that at present it is impossible for a person to achieve a high and beneficial position for the Ummah unless he has a certificate. And because of this, even if you were to find a scholar who is good in various affairs of knowledge, but he has no certificate, it will not be possible for him to teach even in high school and this is the reality. And you will find that the one lesser in knowledge than this scholar will be accepted (as a teacher) at a university as long as he has a certificate.  So in accordance with a person’s (sincere) intention and choices, the certificate is not considered harmful and its obtainment enters into the statement of the Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam):

وما جاءك من هذا المال وأنت غير مشرف ولا سائل فخذه، وما لا فلا تتبعه نفسك

And what comes to you from this wealth without asking for it or having greed for it, take it; and if not given, do not run for it.” [Saheeh Al-Bukhaari. Number 1473. Vol 2. Book of Zakat] [Ref 8]

The Shaikh [rahimahullaah] also said:

It is possible for a person to come, holding the certification of a doctorate (PhD), and take up the position of teaching in the faculties and universities, yet he is the most ignorant of people. And if a secondary grade student came, he would be better than him (in understanding and knowledge). And this is witnessed, observed (nowadays), there is to be found now one who holds the certification of a doctorate yet he knows absolutely nothing of knowledge. Knowledge, understanding (ilm, fiqh) is something granted and bestowed by Allaah as a favour and bounty and is not necessarily attained through certifications and passing through institutions.

[Source: Sharh Riyadh al-Saliheen 3/436].

The Shaikh [rahimahullaah] also said:

knowledge of the Sharee’ah is (acquired) for the Sake of Allaah, to protect Allaah’s Sharee’ah, remove ignorance from yourself and from your Muslim brothers; direct (oneself and others) towards guidance and obtain the inheritance of the Prophet [i.e. some of the knowledge left behind by the Prophet – sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam], because the Scholars are the inheritors of the Prophets.

[Sharh Riyadh al-Saliheen 3/436].

Admonition to Those Who Say,

“I Do Not Need to Sit In Study Circles Because I Have Access to Arabic Books And Audio Tapes of Scholars”. [Tapes and Books, Taking Knowledge Directly From The Scholars In Person And The Responsibilities of The Qualified Teachers In The Masaajid And Maraakiz]

Shaikh Uthaymeen [rahimahullaah] stated some of the great advantages of taking knowledge directly from Ulamaa:

[a] The path to acquiring knowledge will be shortened for him, rather than him moving from one book to another whilst trying to find out the view that carries more weight [in a particular subject matter] and the reason behind it; likewise trying to find out the weak view in [that particular subject matter] and the reason behind it. Instead of going through all this, the teacher will give him what he seeks after through an easy path; present to him – two, three or more than three – different views of the people of knowledge [i.e. the scholars] together with a clarification of the view that carries more weight and the proof. Indeed, there is no doubt that this is beneficial [or advantageous] for the student [as oppose to what will bring him harm in the path of seeking knowledge].

[b] He will be facilitated with the ability to grasp a subject matter quickly, because when the student of knowledge reads to a scholar, he will grasp the subject matter many times quicker than when he reads books [on his own]. That is because when he read books, he might come across difficult and obscure statements [or expressions], so he needs contemplation and repetition, which requires time and effort, and he might understand those statements [or expressions] wrongly and then act upon them.

[c] Close connection [or attachment] between the students of knowledge and the erudite scholars- junior people of knowledge attached to senior people of knowledge.

These are from the benefits of acquiring knowledge directly from the Shaikhs. But as mentioned earlier, it is obligated on a person to choose a scholar who is reliable, trustworthy and strong – one who has real knowledge and understanding and not superficial knowledge; truthful and firm in fulfilling what is entrusted to him and known for fulfilling acts of worship, for indeed a student follows the footsteps of his teacher. [Ref 9]

Shaikh Ubaid [hafidhahullaah] Clarifies Regarding Audio Tapes and Books

Question to Shaikh Ubaid [hafidhahullaah]: Is it permissible for the one who seeks knowledge from some Shaikh – by way of books and audios – to say to him [i.e. the Shaikh], “Our Shaikh” and thus he becomes a Shaikh of his?

Answer: There’s no harm in considering someone as one’s Shaikh, but I bring your attention to the fact that there are two ways of acquiring knowledge. The first path: Seeking knowledge in person and sitting to acquire knowledge from the scholar directly- sitting in his presence, learn good manners from him and good Tarbiyah. This is the ideal way and the loftiest. This is the way of the Sahaabah in acquiring knowledge from their Prophet [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] – those who were with him in Madeenah and those who travelled to him. They acquired knowledge directly from the Prophet [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] and taught their people. Likewise, this is how the Taabi’oon acquired knowledge from the Sahaabah; they took knowledge [directly] from the Sahaabah, especially the seniors. Likewise, those who followed the Taabi’een did the same up to this era of ours. This is the correct and loftiest path of acquiring knowledge from a Shaikh.

The second path: It is to acquire knowledge from books and audios. There is no harm in this and it benefits, but it does not contain that which is found in the first method; rather it is for a woman and the one who is unable because of the difficulty in reaching the Shaikh due to distance, for one might not be able to sit in the presence of a scholar even in his own country. Not all women are able-some of them are sometimes able and unable at other times, and some are not able. So, these people benefit [i.e. from the books & tapes], but also they are not advised to enter into challenging [or very difficult] issues related to differences of opinion between the scholars; rather they entrust those affairs to the people of knowledge.

And whoever is a teacher – one who gives instructions in knowledge [nurturing others] or an Imaam of a Masjid in his city district or town- we advise him to be at the service of the people and that he takes those questions of theirs which he is able to answer and respond to them in his city district. And those questions that carry difference of opinion and requires investigation, he offers his services to the people by sending those questions to the people of knowledge and take answers from them. This is a good service with regards to the Muslim helping another Muslim. [paraphrased] [Listen to audio here:  https://safeshare.tv/x/aIVf6vxUqh8#

Finally, therefore brothers and sisters, let us all hold onto the scholars and the upright students in the various Masaajid and Maraakiz. We do not tolerate anyone who comes along with their desires and arrogance, rather we continue to benefit from all our teachers. May Allaah grant us Ikhlaas, humility and Husnul Khaatimah Aameen.

[31] The Three Monotheistic Religions! [Brief Observations On This Statement Uttered By Writers Who Are Ignorant About Islaam And Misguided Modernists Speaking In The Name of Islaam]: Similarity Between Trinitarians And Some Groups Amongst The Raafidah

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Firstly: We repeat once again the fact that rebutting false beliefs, ideas and views does not necessitate bad behaviour, rather Muslims are commanded to behave well towards others.

And the Jews [i.e. those who deviated] say: “Uzair (Ezra) is the son of Allah”, and the Christians [i.e. those who deviated] say: “Messiah is the son of Allah”. That is a saying from their mouths. They imitate the saying of the disbelievers of old. Allah’s Curse be on them, how they are deluded away from the truth! [Surah At-tawbah. Aayah 30]

Indeed, Ahlul Bidah Wad Dalaal [the proponents of religious innovations and misguidance] – those who ascribe to Islaam – imitate them in this affair by uttering something similar to their act of going beyond bounds regarding the status of Prophets [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon them], the family of Prophet Muhammad [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon them], the Mashaayikh and other than them, such as those who claim Wahdatul Wujood [i.e.  the notion of the unity of existence – that Allah is one with the creation and that He is in every place] or Hulool [i.e. Divine indwelling – the belief that Allaah dwells within a particular human] or Ittihaad [i.e. union with the divine], which is similar to the extreme claim of the Christians [regarding the Messiah] and the claim of the Shiites regarding Ali and a group from the Prophet’s family, such as the Nusayriyyah and other than them who claim deity ship for Ali, and the claim of some of the Ismaa’eeliyyah who claim deity ship for their ruler etc.

When these people are addressed and a clarification is given regarding the corruption their statements, they reply with something similar to the statements of those Christians [who deviated from the path of the Messiah], saying, “This affair of ours is something above the intellects”, and they would say to the one who desired to follow their path, “Abandon Aql and Naql [i.e. sound reasoning by way of intellect and the narrations found in the Sharee’ah]”. These people blindly follow their Mashaayikh and follow them in that which is outside the boundaries of the Sharee’ah of the Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] and in that which they innovated, which Allaah has not legislated; so they follow religious innovations as means of worship and declare lawful that which is unlawful, in a manner similar to how some of the Christians blindly followed their Shuyookh. And when a person opposes them, they say, “The Shaikh has made his affair safe and he is not to be opposed”, just as the Christians say about their Shuyookh.

The most of that which these people have is that they narrate some of those affairs that are regarded to be out of the norm [i.e. miracles] from their Shuyookh, which may either be true or false, or it may be that they are deeds of the allies of the devils, such as the Magicians and soothsayers. And it may be from that which occurs from the allies of Allaah, so if it is from the allies of Allaah, then there is nothing in relation to this regarding blindly following a Wali in everything he says, because a Wali is neither infallible nor is it obligatory to follow him in everything he says, nor is it obligatory to believe in everything he says; rather this is one of the specific rights of the Prophets [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon them], because it is obligatory to believe in everything the Prophets [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon them] have stated, testify to the truthfulness of everything they have related regarding the unseen matters and follow them in everything they have commanded. And whoever disbelieves in anything they have brought, then such a person is a disbeliever.

These innovators,  extremists – those who ascribe partners to Allaah and hold the belief of divine indwelling – are like the Christians with regards to how close they resemble them and how much they oppose the sound religion of the Muslims, and some of them are more in agreement with the sound religion of the Muslims. As for the extremists, there are those amongst them who agree more with the Christians and some are greater disbelievers than the Christians.

Finally, we repeat once again the fact that rebutting false beliefs, ideas and views does not necessitate bad behaviour, rather Muslims are commanded to behave well towards others.

You Are a Wahhaabi, You Hate The Family of The Prophet! [Absurd Claim of Pathetic Wailers and Heretical Proponents of Self-flagellation On The Day of Aashooraa]

Indeed, is it permissible to invoke the dead and seek deliverance and rescue from them?’’  They [i.e. Raafidah] say, “You are a Wahhaabi, you hate the family of the Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam)’’.

Allaah [Glorified and Exalted be He] said:

And they (Arab pagans) wonder that a warner (Prophet Muhammad) has come to them from among themselves! And the disbelievers say: ‘This (Prophet Muhammad) is a sorcerer, a liar.   Has he made the aaliha (gods) (all) into One Ilaah (God – Allaah). Verily, this is a curious thing!’ And the leaders among them went about (saying): “Go on and remain constant to your aaliha (gods)! Verily, this is a thing designed (against you)! We have not heard (the like) of this among the people of these later days. This is nothing but an invention!  Has the Reminder been sent down to him (alone) from among us?” Nay! but they are in doubt about My Reminder (this Qur’aan)! Nay, but they have not tasted (My) Torment! [Soorah Saad; Ayah:4-8]

So, you say to the Raafidah: Indeed, it is Shirk to call upon other than Allaah when seeking benefit and seeking protection from harm regarding a matter which none can (fulfil) except Allaah.  It is not permissible to invoke Ali Ibn Abee Taalib [radiyallaahu-anhu] or other than him amongst the dead [may Allaah have mercy upon them], because Allaah [The Mighty and Majestic] said:

And those, whom you invoke or call upon instead of Him, own not even a Qitmeer (the thin membrane over the date stone).  If you invoke (or call upon) them, they hear not your call, and if (in case) they were to hear, they could not grant it (your request) to you. And on the Day of Resurrection, they will disown your worshipping them. And none can inform you (O Muhammad) like Him Who is the All-Knower (of each and everything).  O mankind! it is you who stand in need of Allaah, but Allaah is Rich (Free of all wants and needs), Worthy of all praise.’ [Soorah Faatir; Ayah:13-14]

And Allaah [Glorified be He and free is He from all imperfections] said:

‘And who is more astray than one who calls (invokes) besides Allaah, such as will not answer him till the Day of Resurrection, and who are (even) unaware of their calls (invocations) to them?  And when mankind are gathered (on the Day of Resurrection), they (false deities) will become enemies for them and will deny their worshipping.’ [Soorah Ahqaaf. Aayah:5-6]

And Allaah [Glorified be He and free is He from all imperfections] said:

وَمَن يَدۡعُ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَـٰهًا ءَاخَرَ لَا بُرۡهَـٰنَ لَهُ ۥ بِهِۦ فَإِنَّمَا حِسَابُهُ ۥ عِندَ رَبِّهِۦۤ‌ۚ إِنَّهُ ۥ لَا يُفۡلِحُ ٱلۡكَـٰفِرُونَ

And whoever invokes (or worships), besides Allaah, any other ilaah (god), of whom he has no proof, then his reckoning is only with his Lord. Surely! Al-Kaafiroon (the disbelievers in Allaah and in the Oneness of Allaah, polytheists, pagans, idolaters, etc.) will not be successful. [Soorah Muminoon; Ayah:117]

And if you say, “Indeed others have joined them (i.e. the Mushrikoon) in this (affair)”, so I say, ‘’Whoever joins them in this (affair of shirk) is similar to them”.  Allaah said:

And invoke not besides Allaah, any that will neither profit you, nor hurt you, but if (in case) you did so, you shall certainly be one of the Zaalimoon (polytheists and wrong doers).  And if Allaah touches you with hurt, there is none who can remove it but He; and if He intends any good for you, there is none who can repel His Favour which He causes it to reach whomsoever of His slaves He will. And He is the Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.’ [Soorah Yoonus; Ayah:106-107]

When you relate these verses and their likes to the (Rawaafid), and then say to them, “Indeed, is it permissible to invoke the dead and seek deliverance and rescue from them?’’  They say, “You are a Wahhaabi, you hate the family of the Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam)’’. This is the same (affair) regarding the extreme Soofees; when you say, “Indeed, the awliyaa can neither benefit nor harm”, they say, “You hate the awliyaa”.

Indeed, Mighty is the word that comes out of the mouths of these two sects; they utter nothing but a lie.

Acquire Knowledge From Duroos of all Upright Salafi Teachers – Whether Young or Older

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Shaikh Rabee bin Haadee Al-Mad’khalee [hafidhahullaah] said:

Quote:

The entire life of a person is spent in seeking knowledge – from the cradle to the grave.  He does not feel proud to acquire truth from a young or older person, and he never rejects truth, whether it is stated by a Muslim or Unbeliever.

Quote:

Moosaa [alayhis salaam] was spoken to directly by Allaah and the Tawraat revealed to him, which contained Hudaa [i.e. that which guides a person to Eemaan, truth and protects one from misguidance] and Noor [i.e. a guiding light in the midst of the darkness of ignorance, confusion, doubts, beliefs and deeds that appear to be truth but are falsehood in reality and evil desires], but when he knew that another person possessed knowledge of that which he does not possess, [Allaah informed us he (Moosaa) said]:

لَا أَبْرَحُ حَتَّىٰ أَبْلُغَ مَجْمَعَ الْبَحْرَيْنِ أَوْ أَمْضِيَ حُقُبًا

I will not give up (travelling) until I reach the junction of the two seas or (until) I spend years and years in travelling.”

[Surah Al-Kahf. Aayah 60]

He went on foot – neither had a car nor a riding beast, nor a horse; [rather] he travelled on foot.

[One] must seek understanding of Allaah’s Book and the [authentic] Sunnah of Allaah’s Messenger [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] – based on the understanding of the Messenger [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam], the understanding of the pious predecessors – the Sahaabah and those who followed them exactly in faith. These affairs must be acquired, for whoever opposes anything of it [i.e. deliberately or persists upon error after clarification], he will be misguided and deviated. What a beautiful a statement of Ibn Taymiyyah I have read and was transmitted by Ibnul Qayyim! [Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah (rahimahullaah) said]: “Whoever opposes the proofs [i.e. the sound unambiguous proofs] will be misguided and there is no proof except that which the Messenger brought [i.e. the Book and the authentic Sunnah]”.

Our proof is the Qur’aan and the [authentic] Sunnah, and whoever is deprived of it- in any affair- will be misled. This is a true statement and it is what the Messenger [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] and the Sahaabah [radiyallaahu-anhum] have stated and followed aforetime, whilst seeking understanding of the religion. A proof – in any affair related to the religion – is ‘’Allaah said and Allaah’s Messenger said’’. At present, there are affairs whose proofs reach a thousand in number, but you do not find them in the reference books of the people of misguidance. They have been misguided from the right path and deprived of numerous proofs!

The Ahnaaf [i.e. the Hanifees] state in their definitions of Fiqh that it is of two types: The Fiqh al kabeer Wal Akbar. Fiqh al kabeer – according to them – is the Fiqh related to the Sharee’ah rulings and the subsidiary issues of the religion, and what is similar to that. This is a great affair! However, what is greater than it and must be acquired – and the people will not rejoice except by way of it – is the understanding of Tawheed and Eemaan. This is the greater Fiqh [Fiqh Al-Akbar]- Meaning, we seek understanding in our religion and understand the two types of Fiqh – the Fiqh Al-kabeer and the Fiqh Al-Akbar. The Fiqh Al-Akbar is the understanding of Tawheed and Eemaan, and the Fiqh Al-kabeer is the Fiqh by way of which we can distinguish between Halaal and Haraam, truth and falsehood. We derive it from the book of Allaah, the sunnah of the Messenger [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] and the understanding of our pious predecessors. We utilise their understanding to aid us understand, as well as what they left behind for us in the Arabic language, Usoolul Fiqh, Usoolul Hadeeth, the science by way of which Ahaadeeth are declared authentication or weak. All these affairs must be acquired by the students of knowledge and they cannot do without it.

The person who studies Fiqh and does not give importance to the proofs- does not distinguish between what is authentic and weak – will fall into very big mistakes, for he may worship Allaah based on a weak or fabricated hadeeth. Therefore, he must distinguish between authentic and weak hadeeth. Ahmad Ibn Ishaaq [rahimahullaah] – an Imaam of Fiqh and Hadeeth- said, “The one who does not distinguish between authentic and weak hadeeth is not a scholar’’. And why is that [the case]? Because he may worship Allaah, declare something halaal or haraam based on weak or fabricated Ahaadeeth, so he harms himself and the people. Whoever is deprived of proofs will be misled from the right path and this is a principle cited in every affair related to the religion. Therefore, it is obligated on you to acquire understanding of the religion based on the path of the pious predecessors.

When a Sahaabi [i.e. anyone amongst the companions of the Prophet] was asked a question, he would answer with an Aayah and a hadeeth, and never said, “My opinion is such and such’’. He would never exit the text of the Sharee’ah in his answer, except if no evidence reaches him, then [in that case], he would strive to reach a verdict because that textual proof was with someone else- because such and such person did memorise something and that other person memorised something else, and that third person missed something. So, he fears Allaah and strives to reach a verdict based on what his ability allows him and the text available to him, and then says, ‘’Allaah says and the Messenger says’’. If he does not have [enough] proof, he strives to reach a verdict and says, ‘’This is my view. If I am correct, it is from Allaah; but if I’m mistaken, it is from myself and Shaytaan’’. This is what Ibn Mas’ood [radiyallaahu-anhu] and other than him used to say.

Whenever AbuBakr [radiyallaahu-anhu] was compelled due to a need [for some evidence] and he did not have a textual proof from Allaah [i.e. from the Qur’aan] or [based on] what the Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] said regarding such and such affair, and likewise Umar [radiyallaahu-anhu] used to do the same, he asked someone younger than him and finds a hadeeth related to the affair – from someone younger than him amongst the Sahaabah and from the latter companions, such as Al-Mugheerah Ibn Shu’bah [radiyallaahu-anhu].

The entire life of a person is spent in seeking knowledge – from the cradle to the grave.  He does not feel proud to acquire truth from a young or older person, and he never rejects truth, whether it is stated by a Muslim or Unbeliever. His soul seeks after the truth, so if he finds a text from the Book of Allaah and the [authentic] Sunnah of the Messenger [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam], then all praises and thanks be to Allaah; but if he does not have it and finds it with someone else, he accepts it. Ibn Hazm [rahimahullaah] said, “It may be that a person did memorise an Aayah and a hadeeth, then something occurs, but he forgets the Aayah and the hadeeth and is reminded by someone else. It is not possible for a person to establish or accomplish his religious and worldly affairs except by way of co-operating upon righteousness and piety. He does not become proud when something occurs whilst he has no proof or cannot recall a text he did memorise, or has forgotten, or does not have a statement from the Sahaabah and the Taabi’een, [rather] he asks someone else and does not become haughty. [Ref 1]

Seeking knowledge is a great affair, which Allaah – in the Qur’aan – exhorted [us to seek] and [likewise] Allaah’s Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] has exhorted [us to seek it]. Allaah informed [us] that Moosaa [alayhis salaatu wassalaam] travelled to seek knowledge, saying:

وَإِذْ قَالَ مُوسَىٰ لِفَتَاهُ لَا أَبْرَحُ حَتَّىٰ أَبْلُغَ مَجْمَعَ الْبَحْرَيْنِ أَوْ أَمْضِيَ حُقُبًا

And (remember) when Musa (Moses) said to his boy-servant: “I will not give up (travelling) until I reach the junction of the two seas or (until) I spend years and years in travelling.” [Surah Al-Kahf. Aayah 60]

Once he [Moosaa (salayhis-salaam)] was in one of the gatherings of Banee Israa’eel, so a man asked him, “Is there anyone more knowledgeable than you?” He said, “No.” So, Allaah revealed to him, saying: “Certainly, my slave Khidr” [i.e. he is more knowledgeable than you in some affairs]. Allaah narrated this story in the Qur’aan and likewise Allaah’s Messenger [i.e. in the Sunnah]. He [i.e. Moosaa (alayhis salaam)] was spoken to directly by Allaah and the Tawraat revealed to him, which contained Hudaa [i.e. that which guides a person to Eemaan, truth and protects one from misguidance] and Noor [i.e. a guiding light in the midst of the darkness of ignorance, confusion, doubts, beliefs and deeds that appear to be truth but are falsehood in reality and evil desires], but when he knew that another person possessed knowledge of that which he does not possess, [Allaah informed us he (Moosaa) said]:

لَا أَبْرَحُ حَتَّىٰ أَبْلُغَ مَجْمَعَ الْبَحْرَيْنِ أَوْ أَمْضِيَ حُقُبًا

I will not give up (travelling) until I reach the junction of the two seas or (until) I spend years and years in travelling.”

[Surah Al-Kahf. Aayah 60]

He went on foot – neither had a car nor a riding beast, nor a horse; [rather] he travelled on foot. Allaah [The Mighty and Majestic] said about him: [قَالَ ذَٲلِكَ مَا كُنَّا نَبۡغِ‌ۚ فَٱرۡتَدَّا عَلَىٰٓ ءَاثَارِهِمَا قَصَصً۬ا  – Musa (Moses) said: “That is what we have been seeking.” So, they went back retracing their footsteps]. [Surah Al-Kahf. Aayah 64].

[They did this (i.e. Moosaa and his boy servant went back to find Khidr)] for the sake of knowledge, for indeed none knows virtue except the one given virtue. None knows the virtue of knowledge, except those who are virtuous. If one humbles himself due to knowledge, this is honour. Do not lower yourself – even in the presence of the greatest person- for the sake of the Dunyaa, [rather] humble yourself, be well mannered and lower yourself for the sake of knowledge, because it is the loftiest thing, and by way of it, you will be raised in the sight of Allaah and the people. If you lower yourself to acquire knowledge, this can never be [considered] humiliation; [rather] it is humility, a proof of good manners, truthfulness in the path of seeking after knowledge and the truth. The Obligation of Pronouncing Faith And Not Just Affirming It In One’s Heart – Shaykh Fawzaan

Shaikh Salih al Fawzaan حفظه الله comments regarding His Statement (The Most High):

Say (O Muhammad): “We believe in Allah and in what has been sent down to us, and what was sent down to Ibrahim (Abraham), Isma’il (Ishmael), Ishaque (Isaac), Ya’qub (Jacob) and Al-Asbat [the twelve sons of Ya’qub (Jacob)] and what was given to Musa (Moses), ‘Iesa (Jesus) and the Prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between one another among them and to Him (Allah) we have submitted (in Islam).”

-Surah Aal-E-Imran, Ayah

“Taken from this verse is the obligation to utter the testimony of faith (al-Imaan) and it is not enough to only affirm it in the heart, just like  some of the Murji’ah say (1). Faith, as it has been established by Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jamaa’ah (2) comprises of statement of the tongue, belief of the heart and actions of the limbs, therefore it is an obligation to utter the testimony of faith and not just to affirm it in the heart, because the disbelievers during the time of the Messenger affirmed that he was the Messenger of Allaah, but they refused to utter and testify that he is the Messenger of Allah, and because of that they disbelieved, so affirmation in their hearts did not benefit them, just as Allah says:

قَدۡ نَعۡلَمُ إِنَّهُۥ لَيَحۡزُنُكَ ٱلَّذِي يَقُولُونَۖ فَإِنَّهُمۡ لَا يُكَذِّبُونَكَ وَلَٰكِنَّ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ بِـَٔايَٰتِ ٱللَّهِ يَجۡحَدُونَ

We know indeed the grief which their words cause you (O Muhammad): it is not you that they deny, but it is the Verses (the Quran) of Allah that the Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers) deny.

-Surah Al-An’am, Ayah 33

And Allah said: ‘…وَجَحَدُواْ بِها’ meaning: in the ayaat (signs) of Allah.

And they belied them (those Ayat) wrongfully and arrogantly, though their ownselves were convinced thereof [i.e. those (Ayat) are from Allah, and Musa (Moses) is the Messenger of Allah in truth, but they disliked to obey Musa (Moses), and hated to believe in his Message of Monotheism]. So see what was the end of the Mufsidun (disbelievers, disobedient to Allah, evil-doers, liars.).

-Surah An-Naml, Ayah 14

This is an evidence that they knew the truthfulness of the Messengers deep in their souls, but due to arrogance and obstinacy they did not follow them and thus they became disbelievers. Their acknowledgement and affirmation in their hearts alone did not benefit them, therefore this is a refutation against the Murji’ah who say that faith is only affirmation in the heart.”
