[12] Excerpts From Tafseer Surah An-Nahl – Aayaat 38-40]: The Polytheists Wilfully Denied The Resurrection!

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

And they swear by Allah their strongest oaths, that Allah will not raise up him who dies. Certainly, [He (Allaah)  will raise them up), a promise (binding) upon Him in truth, but most of mankind know not. In order that He may make manifest to them the truth of that wherein they differ, and that those who disbelieved (in Resurrection, and in the Oneness of Allah) may know that they were liars. Verily! Our Word unto a thing when We intend it, is only that We say unto it: “Be!” and it is. [Surah An-Nahl. Aayaat 38-40]

Allaah [The Exalted] informed us about the polytheists- those who belied His Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam]- that they swore by Allaah their strongest oaths out of wilful denial that neither will Allaah resurrect the dead nor is He able to resurrect them after they have turned to dust, but Allaah said: [بَلَىٰ وَعۡدًا عَلَيۡهِ حَقًّ۬ا وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَڪۡثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا يَعۡلَمُونَ  – Certainly, He – (Allaah)  will raise them up), a promise (binding) upon Him in truth, but most of mankind know not]- Meaning, certainly they will be resurrected and gathered on a day about which there is no doubt – neither will Allaah fail to do it nor change it; [وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَڪۡثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا يَعۡلَمُونَ – but most of mankind know not]- Meaning, due to their extreme ignorance they deny the resurrection and recompense.

Then Allaah [The Exalted] stated the wisdom behind the recompense and resurrection, saying: [ لِيُبَيِّنَ لَهُمُ ٱلَّذِى يَخۡتَلِفُونَ فِيهِ – In order that He may make manifest to them the truth of that wherein they differ]- Meaning, regarding both big and small matters, and their realities and clarity will be manifested. [وَلِيَعۡلَمَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوٓاْ أَنَّہُمۡ كَانُواْ ڪَـٰذِبِينَ – and that those who disbelieved (in Resurrection, and in the Oneness of Allah) may know that they were liars]- Meaning, when they see their deeds as regrets for them- that the false gods they worshipped besides Allaah have not benefited them in anything when the command of Allaah arrives (i.e. the day of resurrection); when they see that the things they worshipped are firewood for the hell fire, when the sun and the moon wound round and lost their light and are overthrown, and the stars are the stars fall, and it becomes manifest to the one who used to worship them that they belong to Allaah and are under His command, absolutely in need of Allaah in all circumstances, and that is neither difficult nor significant for Allaah, because when He wishes that something should happen, He says, “Be” and it comes into existence, without any dispute or obstacle, rather it happens solely based on what He wants and wills.

[An Excerpt from Tafseer As-Sadi. Slightly paraphrased]

Finally, let us ponder upon the following Aayaat in Surah Yaseen, whose meanings we’ll share next week – InShaaAllaah – in a post at https://masjidfurqan.co.uk/. Allaah [The Exalted] said:

Does not man see that We have created him from Nutfah (mixed male and female discharge semen drops). Yet behold! He (stands forth) as an open opponent. And he puts forth for Us a parable, and forgets his own creation. He says: “Who will give life to these bones when they have rotted away and became dust?” Say: (O Muhammad) “He will give life to them Who created them for the first time! And He is the All-Knower of every creation!” He, Who produces for you fire out of the green tree, when behold! You kindle therewith. Is not He, Who created the heavens and the earth Able to create the like of them? Yes, indeed! He is the All-Knowing Supreme Creator. Verily, His Command, when He intends a thing, is only that He says to it, “Be!” and it is! So Glorified is He and Exalted above all that they associate with Him, and in Whose Hands is the dominion of all things, and to Him you shall be returned. [Surah Yaa Seen. Aayaat 77-83]
