[13] Excerpts From Tafseer Surah An-Nahl – Aayaat 41-42]: Mighty Reward In This Dunyaa And Aakhirah For Those Who Remained Steadfast And Migrated to Seek Allaah’s Pleasure

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

And as for those who emigrated for the Cause of Allah, after suffering oppression, We will certainly give them goodly residence in this world, but indeed the reward of the Hereafter will be greater, if they but knew! (They are) those who remained patient (in this world for Allah’s sake), and put their trust in their Lord (Allah Alone). [Surah An-Nahl. Aayaat 41-42]

Allaah [The Exalted]  informed us about the virtue of those believers who were put to trial – those who migrated in the path of Allaah and seeking Allaah’s good Pressure, after they were harmed and put to trial by their people- those who put them to trial in order to revert them to disbelief and polytheism; so they abandoned their land and beloved ones, and left for the sake of obedience to Ar-Rahmaan [The Most Merciful- Allaah]. So, Allaah mentioned two rewards for them – reward for them in the Dunyah by way of an enlarged provision and livelihood after their migration, given victory over their enemies, conquered the lands, received abundant war booty and good in this worldly life. [Ref 1. Read further details – at the end of this article – about trial one might face and migration to safeguard one’s religion and Jihaad in our era]

[وَلَأَجۡرُ ٱلۡأَخِرَةِ أَكۡبَرُ‌ۚ  – but indeed the reward of the Hereafter will be greater]- Meaning, the reward Allaah promised them through the revelation sent down to the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] is greater than reward in the worldly life, as Allaah said [in another Aayah]:

Those who believed (in the Oneness of Allah – Islamic Monotheism) and emigrated and strove hard and fought in Allah’s Cause with their wealth and their lives are far higher in degree with Allah. They are the successful. Their Lord gives them glad tidings of a Mercy from Him, and that He is pleased (with them), and of Gardens (Paradise) for them wherein are everlasting delights. They will dwell therein forever. Verily, with Allah is a great reward. [Surah At-Tawbah. Aayaat 20-22]

[لَوۡ كَانُواْ يَعۡلَمُونَ   – if they but knew]- Meaning, if people had knowledge and certainty regarding that which Allaah has kept of reward and good recompense for the one who believes in Him and migrates for His sake, then none would refrain from doing so.

Then Allaah mentioned the characteristics of His Awliyaa, saying: [ٱلَّذِينَ صَبَرُواْ  –  (They are) those who remained patient (in this world for Allah’s sake)]- Meaning, they exercise patience whilst fulfilling the commands of Allaah and keeping away what He has forbidden, exercise patience whilst facing the painful things Allaah has decreed, the harm and trial in it, [وَعَلَىٰ رَبِّهِمۡ يَتَوَڪَّلُونَ- and put their trust in their Lord (Allah Alone)]- Meaning, they rely on Allaah whilst fulfilling what He loves and they do not solely rely on themselves, and this what the success and uprightness of their affairs and circumstances are based upon, for indeed the establishment of all affairs is based on patience and reliance on Allaah. None misses something good except due to lack of patience and an absence of striving in that which he is required to strive, or due to lack of relying on Allaah and depending on Him. [Ref 2. Migration to safeguard one’s religion:

Al-Allaamah Ubaid Bin Abdillaah Al-Jaabiri [hafidhahullaah] stated:

This Hijrah is from the legislated ordinances of Allaah and
He has not abrogated it.  He [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] said,  “’Hijrah will not cease to continue until repentance ceases to continue, and repentance will not cease to continue until the sun rises from the west”.  Therefore it ( hijrah) remains.

What is apparent to me concerning Hijrah at present is of two affairs:

The Obligatory Hijrah:

If a person is in a kaafir land (being) put to trial in his religion and
honour, and he is unable to establish that which Allaah has enjoined upon him pertaining to his Religion and worship of his Lord, then Hijrah is obligated on him. If he is able to make Hijrah, yes, then he migrates to a Muslim land and this is the basis of the affair, or to a Kaafir land in which his Religion and honour is safe, just as the Prophet [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] commanded the Muslims to migrate to Habasha (Ethiopia) when the Quraish harmed them; and he [sallal-laahu-alayhi-sallam] mentioned that there was a king (in Habasha) who oppresses no one under his protection, or as he [sallal-laahu-alayhi-sallam] said, “Oppresses no one next to him”.

The Recommended Hijrah:

As for the recommended prescribed Hijrah, it is the Hijrah from the land of the disbelievers to the lands of Islaam in order to strengthen one’s religion, or to gain knowledge, or to earn lawful earnings in the land of Islaam.
