Imaam Al-Hasan Al-Basri [rahimahullaah] said, “Whoever adheres to four affairs, Allaah will protect him from shaytaan and safeguard him from the fire of hell: the one who controls himself when desirous pof something, controls himself when in a state of fear, controls himself when inclined towards lowly desires and when angry”.
Imaam Ibn Rajab [rahimahullaah] said,
These four affairs mentioned by Al-Hasan [rahimahullaah] are the beginning of every evil. Being desirous of something is the heart’s inclination towards it in order to secure its benefit. The one who has a desire for something may be led to seek after it through every path that will lead him to it, but it may be that most of what is related to this thing is unlawful and maybe the thing itself is unlawful. Fear: When a person fears something, he looks for every means he think will repel it; but it maybe that most of that is unlawful. Lowly desires: It is the soul’s inclination towards that which gives it enjoyment and it maybe that it inclines mostly towards that which is unlawful, such fornication, theft and alcohol consumption; rather maybe towards disbelief, magic, hypocrisy and bidah [religious innovation]. Anger: It is a rush of blood to the heart out of seeking to repel harm when one fears that it will befall him or out of seeking revenge against the one who harmed you. Many unlawful deeds results from this, such as murder, hitting people and various types of oppression and transgression, as well as many unlawful statements, such as slander, insult and lewd speech, rather it might even get to the level of a statement that is tantamount to disbelief. [Ref 1]
And were Allah to hasten for mankind the evil (they invoke) as He hastens for them the good (they invoke) then they would have been ruined. [Soorah Yoonus: Ayah: 11]
Imaam Ibnul Qayyim (rahimahullaah) said:
The Salaf (pious predecessors) stated that it is the supplication of the person against himself, his children and family whilst in a state of anger. Had Allaah [The Most High] answered his invocation, it would have destroyed him and the one he supplicated against, but Allaah does not answer his supplication due to His knowledge that the suppliant does not intend it. Comment on the above: Music is a major sin in the sight of the Creator; however none is allowed to take the law into his own hands. Secondly, even if the Muslim authorities sought to arrest those who were playing music, the penalty for such a deed is not capital punishment, so how about one who takes the law into his own hands and commits murder in the name of enjoining good and forbidding evil. This is what occurs when an ignoramus seeks to enjoin good and forbid evil in the name of Islam and thus not only cause more harm than good, rather he transgresses the limits and commits a greater sin, because murder is a greater sin and crime than music.

Boko Haram kidnaps 40 loggers and kills three in north-east Nigeria
A group of more than 40 loggers left Shehuri on the outskirts of Gamboru on Thursday and never returned by evening as usual,” said militia leader Umar Kachalla, who was involved in the search. “On Friday we mobilised men and went deep into the forest where we recovered three bodies identified to be among the loggers, without a trace of their colleagues.”
The missing loggers were presumed kidnapped by the jihadists, who are known to maintain camps in the forest, said Kachalla, a view widely shared in the area.
“We believe the men were taken by Boko Haram who have been attacking loggers in the forest,” said another militia member, Shehu Mada. “From all indication the three dead loggers were shot when they tried to escape as they all were shot from behind.”
The area has been without telephone services for years after the destruction of masts in Boko Haram attacks, forcing people to rely on Cameroon mobile phone networks. [The Guardian UK 26/12/20]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.
Ali Bin Abee Taalib [radiyallaahu-anhu] said: Allaah’s Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] told me four things: “Allaah has cursed the one who slaughters [i.e. an animal as sacrifice] for other than Allaah. Allaah has cursed the one who curses his parents. Allaah has cursed the one who shelters a Muhdith. Allaah has cursed the one who alters the landmarks”. [Reported by Imaam Muslim 1978]
[لَعَنَ الله- Allaah has cursed]: It means to be repelled and distanced from Allaah’s mercy [Ref 1] Shaikhul Islaam [i.e. Imaam Muhammad Ibn Abdul Wahhaab (rahimahullaah)] said: Allaah curses the one who deserves to be cursed by way of statement, just as he sends blessings to the one who deserves blessings. Allaah said:
He it is Who sends His blessings and praises on you, and His angels too [ask Allaah to bless and forgive you], that He may bring you out from darkness [of disbelief and polytheism] into light [of Belief and Islamic Monotheism]. And He is Ever Most Merciful to the believers. Their greeting on the Day they shall meet Him will be “Salam: Peace (i.e. the angels will say to them: Salamu ‘Alaikum)!” [Surah Al-Ahzaab. Aayaat 43-44]
Allaah said: [إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَعَنَ ٱلۡكَـٰفِرِينَ وَأَعَدَّ لَهُمۡ سَعِيرًا -Verily, Allah has cursed the disbelievers, and has prepared for them a flaming Fire (Hell)]. [Surah Al-Ahzaab. Aayah 64] [Ref 2]
“Allaah has cursed the one who slaughters [i.e. an animal as sacrifice] for other than Allaah”.
He [i.e. the Prophet (sallal laahu alayhi wasallam)] mentioned this first because it is shirk – the greatest sin. And La’an [curse] is to be repelled from [Allaah’s Mercy] and this shows that slaughtering for other than Allaah is a major act of shirk, just as it has been reported in the hadeeth, “The greatest of all major sins is to associate partners with Allaah [in worship]”. [Bukhaari 2654 & Muslim 87] [Ref 3]
“Allaah has cursed the one who curses his parents”.
This is also one of the major sins. [Ref 4] Cursing one’s parents can either be committed by the person himself, or he becomes the reason his parents are cursed; [Ref 5] because he curses someone and that person curses his parents and thus he becomes the cause behind his parents being cursed, as it has been reported in the hadeeth, “From the major sins is that a man reviles his parents”, so it was said, “O Messenger of Allaah! Will a man revile his parents?” He said, “Yes, a man reviles another man’s father, so he [i.e. that man] reviles his father; and he reviles [another person’s mother], so he [i.e. that person] reviles his mother”. [Ref 6] This curse [i.e. cursing one’s parents] includes the father, the mother and those above them [i.e. the grandparents], because a grandfather is like a father in relation to rights owed to him, but not in relation to wealth [i.e. inheritance]. [Ref 7a]
“Allaah has cursed the one who shelters a Muhdith”.
[The word Muhdith pronounced with a kasrah under the Daal means a culprit, perpetrator; and pronounced with a Fat-hah on the Daal (Muhdath) means an affair innovated in the religion, sheltering and being pleased with it] [7b]
“Allaah has cursed the one who shelters a Muhdith”- Meaning: [a] Those who shelter Ahlul Bidah Wal Ma’aasee [The People of Bidah and Disobedience] and aid them; [b] Those who stop the one who establishes the legislated Islamic punishment against the innovator [i.e. such as preventing the Muslim ruler from punishing the innovator or the scholar who refutes him]. [c] Those who establish Bidah and support it. [Ref 8] This innovation includes that of the Jahmiyyah, the Mutazilah and others. So, whoever shelters an innovator is cursed and likewise the one who aids him [is cursed]. In this is a warning against Bidah and newly invented matters in the religion. The Prophet said, “Beware of newly invented matters in the religion, for every innovation [in religious affairs] is misguidance”. The apparent meaning of this hadeeth [is that this is the case regarding bidah], even if it is a small bidah. [Ref 9]
“Allaah has cursed the one who alters the landmarks”.
The landmarks that distinguishes the land that belongs to you and what belongs to your neighbour, but you alter it – either to take more or reduce it. [Ref 10] The one who alters them has been cursed because this might lead to problems, calamities and fighting. Also this curse is applicable to the one who alters the routes that guides the people to the different roads and countries [i.e. to cause difficulties]. [Ref 11]
“O Allaah! I ask You for well-being in this Dunyaa and the Aaakhirah. O Allāh, I ask You for pardon and well-being in my religion, my worldly affairs, my family and my wealth. O Allaah! Conceal my [faults, shortcomings etc] and safeguard me against everything that will bring me fear and sorrow. O Allaah! Protect me from in front, from behind me, from my right and my left, and from above. And I seek refuge with Your Magnificence from being swallowed up from beneath me”.
Beneficial Reminder From The Above Supplication
This great supplication begins with one asking Allaah for [العافِيَـةَ -wellbeing] in the Dunyaa and Aakhirah. Nothing can be equal to wellbeing, for whoever is granted well-being then indeed he has received his complete share of good. Seeking [العَفْوَ -pardon] necessitates that one is forgiven his sins and they are wiped away. As for [العافِيَـةَ – Well-being], it is safety Allaah bestows on a servant of His- protects him against every punishment and trial, by averting evil from him, protecting him against calamities and ailments [sicknesses], evil affairs and sins. So, the Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] asked for wellbeing in the Dunyaa and Aakhirah, as well as wellbeing in his religion, worldly affairs, his family and wealth.
Well-being in one’s religion is protection against everything that will bring dishonour [or disgrace] to one’s religion or deprive him of it.
Well-being in the Dunyaa is to seek protection against everything that will harm the person in his worldly affairs, such as calamities or trials, severe poverty and ailments.
Well-being in the Aakhirah is to seek protection against the extreme hardships in the Aakhirah and its various punishments. Well-being in one’s family is that they are protected from trials, calamities and tests; wellbeing in one’s wealth is that it is protected from drowning, burning, theft etc…
[اللَّهُمَّ اسْتُـرْ عَوْراتِي – O Allaah! Conceal my faults, shortcomings etc [ وآمِنْ رَوْعاتِي – safeguard me against every affair that will frighten me and bring sorrow upon me].
Protect me from in front, from behind me, from my right and my left, and from above. And I seek refuge with Your Magnificence from being swallowed up from beneath me] – Meaning: Asking Allaah to protect you against destructive things and evils which a person is exposed to from the six directions, for indeed evil can approach from the front, behind, the right, the left, above or below, and he does not know which direction calamity will suddenly come upon him.
An Excerpt from Fiqh Al-Ad’iyah Wal Afkaar 3/32-33. Slightly paraphrased]
In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.
Indeed, Allaah [The Mighty and Majestic] placed strength of a believer in the heart and not the other limbs. Have you not seen that a weak old man fasting when the sun is very hot and stands up at night in prayer, whilst a young man is unable to do so?! (1)
Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [rahimahullaah] said:
There are two (types) of strengths within the soul: The strength of abstinence and the strength of courage. The reality of patience is that one makes the strength of courageousness a means of action in what benefits him and the strength of abstinence a means of action in refraining from what is harmful to him. Among the people, there is one whose patience in carrying out what benefits him and being firm upon it is stronger than his patience in refraining from what is harmful to him; so he exercises patience in facing difficulty whilst carrying out acts of obedience, but he does not exercise patience in refraining from urges towards what he is forbidden. And among them, there is one whose patience in refraining from things that are in opposition to the religion is stronger than his patience in carrying out acts of obedience, and among them there is one who does not exercise patience in both affairs. The best of people are those who fulfil both affairs. Many people patiently bear the hardship of praying Tahajjud during hot and cold nights, and the difficulty in fasting; but they do not exercise patience in refraining from looking at forbidden things. Many people exercise patience in refraining from looking at the forbidden things and inclination towards [forbidden] images, but they do not exercise patience in commanding good and forbidding evil. (2)

[Ref 2: An Excerpt from Uddatus Saabireen. page 37. Slightly paraphrased]
O Allah! Rectify my religion for me, which is the safeguard of my affairs; rectify my worldly [affairs], wherein is my livelihood; and rectify my Afterlife to which is my return; and make life for me [as a means of] increase in every good and make death for me as a rest from every evil. [Saheeh Muslim Number: 2720]
This is also one of the comprehensive supplications of the Prophet [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam]. Indeed, it gathers affairs a person asks Allaah for the rectification of one’s religious affairs, worldly affairs and affairs related to the Afterlife. It begins with one’s religious affairs because when one religion is rectified, then the other affairs [i.e. one’s Dunyaa and Aakhirah] will also be rectified.
O Allaah! Rectify my religion for me, which is the safeguard of my affairs.
The statement: [اللَّهُمَّ أَصْلِحْ لِي دِينِي – O Allah! Rectify my religion for me]- Meaning: Asking Allaah for the rectification of one’s religion- to be blessed with the ability and guidance to fulfil its obligations, etiquettes and requirements in a perfect and complete manner; blessed with the guidance and ability to adhere to the Qur’aan and the authentic Sunnah based on the path of the Salafus Saaleh – the Sahaabah, the Taabi’een and the righteous Imaams- in affairs related to sound creed, worship, Dawah [i.e. the sound method of calling to the path of Allaah] and good social behaviour in general. [الَّذِي هُوَ عِصْمَةُ أَمْرِي– which is the safeguard of my affairs]- Meaning: The affair through which all my affairs will be protected, just as Allaah stated: [وَٱعۡتَصِمُواْ بِحَبۡلِ ٱللَّهِ جَمِيعً۬ا وَلَا تَفَرَّقُواْۚ – And hold fast, all of you together, to the Rope of Allah (i.e. this Qur’an), and be not divided among yourselves]. [Surah Aal Imraan. Aayah 103]
This shows the fact that adherence to the religion based on the sound methodology [of the Salaf] is a means to safety for the person – [a safeguard] against the misleading trials and against falling into deviation in creed and deeds; and that not adhering to the religion is the reason behind ruining one’s affairs, just as Allaah said: [وَلَا تُطِعۡ مَنۡ أَغۡفَلۡنَا قَلۡبَهُ ۥ عَن ذِكۡرِنَا وَٱتَّبَعَ هَوَٮٰهُ وَكَانَ أَمۡرُهُ ۥ فُرُطً۬ا – and obey not him whose heart We have made heedless of Our Remembrance, one who follows his own lusts and whose affair (deeds) has been lost]. [Surah Al-Kahf. Aayah 28] [see tafseer]
وَأَصْلِحْ لِي دُنْيَايَ الَّتِي فِيهَا مَعَاشِي
And rectify my worldly (affairs), wherein is my livelihood.
[وَأَصْلِحْ لِي دُنْيَايَ – And rectify my worldly (affairs)]- Meaning: Asking Allaah to rectify one’s worldly affairs- to be granted sufficiency in what one needs and through permissible means, as well as making it a means that aids one to obey Allaah. [الَّتِي فِيهَا مَعَاشِي– wherein is my livelihood]- Meaning: In my livelihood and my life. This shows that people have a specified livelihood and a determined provision, and they will receive all of it before they die.
وَأَصْلِحْ لِي آخِرَتِي الَّتِي فِيهَا مَعَادِي
And rectify my Afterlife to which is my return.
[وَأَصْلِحْ لِي آخِرَتِي – And rectify my Afterlife]- Meaning: Asking Allaah to make one’s affairs upright in the afterlife – to receive Allaah’s Kindness, guidance and ability to obey Him [and the Messenger]; granted a righteous departure from this life and success through eternal bliss in paradise. [الَّتِي فِيهَا مَعَادِي – to which is my return]- Meaning: My place of return and my return to Allaah. [Allaah said]: [ لِيَجۡزِىَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَسَـٰٓـُٔواْ بِمَا عَمِلُواْ وَيَجۡزِىَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَحۡسَنُواْ بِٱلۡحُسۡنَى- so that He (Allaah) may requite those who do evil with that which they have done (i.e. punish them in Hell), and reward those who do good, with what is best (i.e. Paradise)]. [Surah An-Najm. Aayah 31]
And make life for me (as a means of) increase in every good.
[وَاجْعَلِ الْحَيَاةَ زِيَادَةً لِي فِي كُلِّ خَيْرٍ– And make life for me (as a means of) increase in every good]- Meaning: Make the duration of lifespan an opportunity and a means of attaining good in speech and deeds. This shows that the duration of person’s lifespan is a motive for increasing in righteous and good deeds.
وَاجْعَلِ الْمَوْتَ رَاحَةً لِي مِنْ كُلِّ شَرٍّ
And make death for me as a rest from every evil.
[وَاجْعَلِ الْمَوْتَ رَاحَةً لِي مِنْ كُلِّ شَرٍّ– And make death for me as a rest from every evil]- Meaning: Make death and my departure from this worldly life a means of rest; and not trials, tests and calamities through sinning and heedlessness.
This shows that the believer is upon complete ease and submission in desiring to meet his Lord, [desiring] to receive Allaah’s great reward and external bliss. We ask Allaah for His Bounty.

Attention Given To The Qur’aan By The Pious Predecessors
Abu Salamah [radiyallaahu anhu] said, “Whenever Abu Moosaa [radiyallaahu anhu] sat with Umar [radiyallaahu anhu], he may say to him, ‘O Abu Moosaa! Remind’. So he recited”. [Ref 1]
Abdullah Ibn Mas’ood [radiyallaahu anhu] said, Whoever is able to learn something from the Qur’aan, then let him do so. Indeed, the houses that are deprived of good the most are the ones where there is no recitation of Allaah’s Book, because the houses in which there is no recitation is like the demolished houses which have no inhabitants. Indeed shaytaan exits a house in which Surah Al Baqarah is heard”. [Ref 2] He [radiyallaahu-anhu] also said, “The hearts are receptacles so busy filling them with the Qur’aan and do not busy them with other than it.” [Ref 3]
Ibn Abbaas [radiyallaahu anhumaa] said, “It would be more beloved to me to recite Surah Al-Baqarah during the night than recite the Qur’aan haphazardly”. [Ref 4]
Ubayd Bin Ja’d [rahimahullaah] reported from a man from who said, “I heard the people in the towns saying that Salamaan Al-Faarisee [radiyallaahu anhu] is in the Masjid, so they approached him until about a thousand people gathered. He stood up and said, ‘Sit down, sit down’. Then when they sat down, he started reciting Surah Yusuf, so the people began moving away and departing until about a hundred were left. Then he became angry and said, ‘So you wanted adorned speech, but then I recited to you the book of Allaah and you left!'” [Ref 5]
Masrooq [rahimahullaah] said, “A man from the people of Makkah said to me, ‘This is the place in which your brother Tameem Ad-Daaree [radiyallaahu anhu] used to stand. Indeed, one night I saw him until in the morning or nearly morning time, whilst he was crying and reciting:
Or does those who do evil deeds think that they can outstrip Us (i.e. escape Our Punishment)? Evil is that which they judge! [Surah Al-Ankabut. Aayah 4] [Ref 6]
Muqaatil Bin Hayyaan [rahimahullaah] said, “I once prayed behind Umar Bin Abdil Azeez [rahimahullaah], so he read [وَقِفُوهُمۡۖ إِنَّہُم مَّسۡـُٔولُونَ- But stop them [i.e. when the wrong doers will be held to account on the day of judgement], verily they are to be questioned] [Surah As-Saffaat. Aayah 24]. He kept on repeating it and was not able to go past it (i.e. due to the severity of what the Aayah meant). [Ref 7]
Maymoon Bin Mehraan [rahimahullaah] said, “Once Umar Bin Abdul Azeez [rahimahullaah] cried after reciting the Aayah: [أَلۡهَٮٰكُمُ ٱلتَّكَاثُرُ-The mutual rivalry for piling up of worldly things diverts you]. Then he recited [حَتَّىٰ زُرۡتُمُ ٱلۡمَقَابِرَ – until you visit the graves (i.e. till you die)]. Then he said, ‘I will not see the graves except as a visitor and the one who visits them must either be returned to paradise or hell’”. [Ref 8]
Aamir Bin Abdil Qays [rahimahullaah] said, “I don’t care what escapes me from the worldly things after knowing this Aayah:
And no (moving) living creature is there on earth but its provision is due from Allah. And He knows its dwelling place and its deposit (in the uterous, grave, etc.). all is in a Clear Book (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz – the Book of Decrees with Allah). [Surah Hud. Aayah 6]
Whatever of mercy (i.e.of good), Allah may grant to mankind, none can withhold it, and whatever He may withhold, none can grant it thereafter. [Surah Al-Faatir. Aayah 2] [Ref 9]
Maalik Bin Deenaar [rahimahullaah] said, “When the Qur’aan is recited to the truthful people, their hearts become enraptured by the Afterlife”. [Ref 10]
Ibn Wahb [rahimahullaah] said, “It was said to the sister of Maalik Bin Deenaar, ‘What did Maalik use to busy himself with in the house?’ She replied, ‘With the Mushaf and recitation'”. [Ref 11]
Hudhayfah Ibnul Yamaan [radiyallaahu anhu] said, “The trials will be presented to the hearts, so a black spot will be placed on any heart that inclines towards it. And if the heart rejects the fitnah, then a white spot will be placed on it. Whoever wishes to know whether the trial has afflicted him or not, then let him see if he now considers something Haraam which he used to consider Halaal or he considers something to be Halaal which he used to consider to be Haraam, then indeed the fitna has afflicted his heart [i.e. if he came to this conclusion based on desires – neither with proof from the Qur’aan nor the Sunnah]. [Ref 12]
Abu Dardaa [radiyallaahu anhu] said, “Seek Allaah’s refuge against the Khushoo that is tantamount to hypocrisy”, so they said, “What is the Khushoo that is tantamount to hypocrisy?” He said, “When you see the body being fearful and the heart is not”. [Ref 13]
Sufyaan Bin Uyaynah [rahimahullaah] said, “If the good in your heart and what is hidden from other people about you is at the same level with the deeds you do openly, then that is justice. If the good in your heart and what is hidden from the people about you is more than the good deeds seen from you, then that is a higher virtue. If the good deeds seen from you are better than what is in your heart and is hidden from the people, then that is transgression”. [Ref 14]
Busy In Worship
Hammaad Ibn Salamah [rahimahullaah] said, “We never went to Sulaymaan At-Taymee [rahimahullaah] at a time in which an act of obedience to Allaah was to be performed, except that we found him doing it. If it was a time for prayer, we found him praying. If it was not the time for prayer, we either found him performing ablution, visiting a sick person, following a Janaazah or standing in the Masjid. We used to think he can never disobey Allaah”. [Ref 15]
May Allaah grant us the Tawfeeq to emulate the Salaf Aameen.

“Beware of pride the disease of the despots, because indeed pride, avarice and (blameworthy) envy were the first sins through which Allaah was disobeyed”. Brief Comment: The Prophet [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] said, “Pride is to reject the truth and mock at the people”. This refers to shaytaan’s behaviour when he was commanded to prostrate to Aadam, but pride prevented him from doing so. He refused and was haughty.
“Raising yourself above your teacher is pride and being arrogant towards the one who benefits you from amongst those who are below you (in knowledge) is pride”. Brief Comment: Raising oneself can either be by way of the tongue (i.e. speech) and it can also be by way of sentiments (feelings, attitude, behaviour etc). He (i.e. the student) maybe walking with his teacher, whilst swaggering and saying, “I did this and I did this. Likewise, being arrogant towards the one who is below you in knowledge is pride. This also occurs from some of the students that if someone below him in knowledge informs him of something, you find him arrogant and does not accept.
“Falling short in acting upon knowledge is a sludge of pride and an indication of being deprived of (well-being)”. Brief Comment: We ask Allaah for wellbeing because from the types of pride is to not act upon the knowledge one knows.

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.
The Prophet [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] said, “I was sent to perfect noble manners”.
Al-Allaamah Zayd Bin Haadee Al-Madkhalee [rahimahullaah] said: “This hadeeth is from the Jawaami Al kalim of the Messenger [i.e. a precise statement whose meaning is vast]. In it is proof regarding the importance of good manners and how can that not be the case when it is the fact that the Prophet [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] said (in another hadeeth), “Righteousness is good character”. Therefore, it is obligated on a believer to have good manners in his relationship with his Lord and in his dealings with the people. His manners should be based on the judgement of the noble Islamic legislation – in speech, deeds, dealings and all his actions. [Ref 1]
Al-Allaamah Rabee Bin Haadee al-Madkhalee [hafidhahullaah] said:
Knowledge is not merely about studying and obtaining certificates, rather the goal is to acquire sound and precise understanding – sound understanding in affairs of Aqeedah, worship, good manners, good etiquettes and everything related to the life of a believer. It is obligated on the believers to carry out everything related to their lives based on the Book of Allaah and the (authentic) sunnah of Allaah’s Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam]. The believer performs acts of worship sincerely for the Sake of Allaah because Allaah commanded him to be sincere. [Allaah (The Blessed and Exalted) said]:
And they were commanded not, but that they should worship Allah, and worship none but Him Alone (abstaining from ascribing partners to Him), and perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat) and give Zakat: and that is the right religion. [Surah Al-Bayyinah’ Aayah 5] [Ref 2]
Good manners have far-reaching outcomes and this why Allaah and His Messenger commanded us to have good manners. The Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] used to apply these good manners when dealing with people – when dealing with his family in his house, his companions and adversaries. Even when a Yahoodi greeted the Messenger of Allaah and said, “As-Saamu Alaykum – death be upon you”, he replied, “Alaykum- And upon you’’. Then Aa’isha said to (the Yahoodi), “Wa Alaykumus Saam Wal la’nah – Death be upon you and the curse of Allaah”, so, the Messenger said, “O Aa’isha! Indeed, Allaah is kind and gentle and He loves kindness and gentleness”. Look (at how) the Yahoodi was dealt with kindly and gently! If he sees this kindness and gentleness, it may pull him towards Islaam or at least these lofty manners will repel a lot of the evil of this Yahoodi, and thus this would make you upright as well as your call to the Religion of Allaah [Ref 3]
In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.
Abdur Rahmaan Ibn Abee Laylah [rahimahullaah] said,
“I met a hundred and twenty companions of the Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] from the Ansaar and not a single one amongst them was asked something (related to the religion), except that he wished that his brother sufficed him (in answering the question) and he would not narrate a hadeeth, except wishing that his brother sufficed him (in narrating the hadeeth)”. [Ref 1]
This is also what we have witnessed from our Salafi elders. A Salafi brother from Birmingham reported to us that few months ago he entered Salafi Bookstore whilst Shaikh Abu Khadeejah [hafidhahullaah] was present, so he teased him and said, “Ustaadh, you have become very lenient these days. Why have you kept quiet about Muhammad Hijaab?” Shaikh Ak kept quiet for a while and then said to him, “What do you want me to do? Is it not enough that Abu Iyaadh [hafidhahullaah] is dealing with him!” Then he started a beautiful conversation about Ahlul Bidah and how Muhammad Hijaab and his ilk are a people who do not fear Allaah, because whenever caught they twist the affair and seek to hide. He also spoke about other Ahlul Bidah such as Hamza Yusuf, Nuh Haa Meem Keller and Yasir Qadhi. [End of quote]
Therefore, we remind the youth that they should not be surprised when such and such elder student is not heard speaking about a particular affair or he is not seen amongst speakers, because the fact is that his fellow elder students suffice him.
