In The Name Name of Allaah, The Most merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.
Allaah [The Exalted] said:
They made not a just estimate of Allah such as is due to Him. And on the Day of Resurrection the whole of the earth will be grasped by His Hand and the heavens will be rolled up in His Right Hand. Glorified is He, and High is He above all that they associate as partners with Him! [Surah Az-Zumar. Aayah 67]
Ibn Abbaas [radiyallaahu-anhumaa] said, “A Jewish Rabbi came to Allaah’s Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] and said, ‘O Muhammad! We learn that Allaah will put all the heavens on one finger, and the earths on one finger, and the trees on one finger, and the water and the dust on one finger, and all the other created beings on one finger. Then He will say, ‘I am the King’. Thereupon the Prophet [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] smiled until his premolar teeth became visible, and that was the confirmation of the speech of the Rabbi. Then he recited: [وَمَا قَدَرُواْ ٱللَّهَ حَقَّ قَدۡرِهِۦ – They made not a just estimate of Allah such as is due to Him (i.e. Allaah)].[Saheeh al-Bukhaari. Number 4811]
Ibn Abbaas [radiyallaahu anhumaa] said, “This Aayah addresses the disbelievers, but as for those who believe that Allaah is able to do all things, then certainly they give Allaah a just estimate such as is due to Him. [Ref 1]
Indeed some fear-mongers in the media have numerous ways to make the vulnerable keep on guessing about the future. This week the disease will be less severe and next week it will be severe! This week it is likely to be severe and next week it is unlikely, highly likely or merely likely! So, the vulnerable are left in a state of stress regarding affairs that are not under their control; but when nothing happens these fear-mongers say, ”But be alert and vigilant”. This is how they make predictions through fear-mongering. They are ruining the mental wellbeing of some people, especially those who have no way of dealing with stress except through intoxicants, anti-depressants etc. We cannot keep quiet as we begin to witness the evil effects of this fear-mongering and the manner in which it is affecting some of our Muslim and Non-Muslim neighbors.
Then when the fear-mongers realize that some people are beginning to see what their fear-mongering is in reality, they take a break and divert attention to something else, such as the warning, ”Unless something is done to stop such and such nation from acquiring nuclear weapons, the world will soon witness its destructive consequences”. This is one of the ways in which some fear-mongers divert attention after a prolonged period of fear-mongering about the spread of diseases. In some African cultures, naughty kids who disturb neighbors at night are told that the Jinn will snatch them or snatch their voices so they will never be able to speak again! This is how some are nurtured upon fear of the Jinn, which can lead to shirk. [See here: Fear of the Jinn https://salaficentre.com/2012/10/13/fear-of-the-jinn-shaikh-rabee/]
As for the fear-mongers in the media, whenever the vulnerable begin to develop an immunity to ”Spiders are under the quilt”, they make it look as if ”The spiders are now in the wardrobe”. They have different ways of terrifying the vulnerable because fear-mongering is an easy way of getting the attention of some people, then their articles are read and they receive their incomes. The recent state of affairs bears witness to this because the fear-mongers have frightened many people with numerous frightening headlines regarding the spread of disease – virus superpower!!! Have you not heard of agoraphobia?! It is fear of leaving the home. Staying and working at home during the lockdown are one cause of the condition, as well as fear of getting infected by such and such virus. It stems from the new adaptation of staying at home for most of the past year, the fear of social contact and the avoidance of closed or crowded spaces. Some people are scared to leave their homes – a form of temporary agoraphobia. Rebuke Against The Fear-mongers In The Media
Allaah [The Exalted] said that Prophet Ibraaheem [alayhis salaam] said to his people:
And how should I fear those whom you associate as partners to Allah (though they can neither benefit nor harm), while you fear not that you have associated partners to Allah things for which He has not sent down to you any authority. (So) which of the two parties has more right to be in security? If you but know.” It is those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah and worship none but Him Alone) and confuse not their belief with Zulm (wrong i.e. by worshipping others besides Allah), for them (only) there is security and they are the guided. [Surah Al-An’aam. Aayaat 81-82]
Meaning: How can this be justified by way of sound intellect or to the one with sound understanding that one fears what you ascribe as partners to Allaah, even though neither can it benefit nor harm, but you do not fear that you have ascribed things as partners to Allaah for which Allaah has neither sent down any proof nor legislated it?! The person who sets up a deity that has not created anything as a partner to Allaah, [(The Lord and owner of everything, the owner of all the means and causes of harm and benefit); rather such a deity is created, neither can it benefit nor harm itself and those who worship it, neither can it give life nor death, nor raise the dead], prostates to it, humbles himself to it and devoted to it, then this person is more worthy of fearing (evil consequences and destruction) than the one who has not ascribed another deity as a partner to Allaah, but rather he declares that Allaah is one – the only true deity, the one with absolute Lordship, the only one who possesses perfect greatness and authority, the only deity that deserves to be loved, feared and direct one’s hope to. [Ref 2]
[وَڪَيۡفَ أَخَافُ مَآ أَشۡرَڪۡتُمۡ – Why should I fear that which you ascribe as partners to [Allaah]? – Meaning, when its state is that of inability and cannot benefit;[وَلَا تَخَافُونَ أَنَّكُمۡ أَشۡرَكۡتُم بِٱللَّهِ مَا لَمۡ يُنَزِّلۡ بِهِۦ عَلَيۡڪُمۡ سُلۡطَـٰنً۬اۚ – whilst you do not fear ascribing partners to Allah for which He has not sent down to you any authority], meaning, you do so solely due to following desires! [فَأَىُّ ٱلۡفَرِيقَيۡنِ أَحَقُّ بِٱلۡأَمۡنِۖ إِن كُنتُمۡ تَعۡلَمُونَ – (So) which of the two parties has more right to be in security? If you but know?]
Then Allaah differentiated the two parties and stated: [ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَلَمۡ يَلۡبِسُوٓاْ إِيمَـٰنَهُم بِظُلۡمٍ أُوْلَـٰٓٮِٕكَ لَهُمُ ٱلۡأَمۡنُ وَهُم مُّهۡتَدُونَ – It is those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah and worship none but Him Alone) and confuse not their belief with Zulm (wrong i.e. by worshipping others besides Allah), for them (only) there is security and they are the guided] -Meaning, safe from fear, punishment and misery, and they will be guided to the straight path. [Ref 3]
Allaah Alone Has The Right to Be Worshipped And Asked For Help
You (Alone (i.e. Allaah) we worship, and You (Alone) we ask for help (for each and everything].
The statement [إِيَّاكَ نَعْبُدُ – You (Alone) we worship] is an actualization of the statement ”There is no deity worthy of worship except Allaah”, and the statement [وإِيَّاكَ نَسْتَعِينُ – and You (Alone) we ask for help (for each and everything] is an actualization of the statement “There is no power nor might except with Allah”. [Ref 4]
Abu Moosaa Al-Ash’aree (radiyallaahu-anhu) said, “The Messenger of Allaah (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) said to me, ‘O Abdullaah Bin Qais! Shall I tell you a word which is one of the treasures of Paradise? It is [لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللهِ – (i.e. There is neither might nor power (to alternate from one state to another nor move from one thing to another) except by Allaah’s Will]. [Muslim 2704] Al-Harwee [rahimahullaah] said that Abu Haytham [rahimahullaah] said, “Al-Hawl [i.e. might] is Al-Haraka [movement], meaning, there is no movement nor ability except by the Will of Allaah”. And it is said, “There is no might to repel evil nor any power to reach good except by the Will of Allaah”. [Ref 5
Allaah said [The Most High] said: [وَمَن يَتَوَكَّلۡ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ فَهُوَ حَسۡبُهُ ۥۤۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ بَـٰلِغُ أَمۡرِهِۦۚ قَدۡ جَعَلَ ٱللَّهُ لِكُلِّ شَىۡءٍ۬ قَدۡرً۬ا – And whosoever puts his trust in Allah, then He will suffice him. Verily, Allah will accomplish his purpose. Indeed Allah has set a measure for all things]. [Surah At-talaaq. Aayah 3]
Uthmaan [radiyallaahu-anhu] said: I heard Allaah’s Messenger [sallal laaju alayhi wasallam] saying: Whoever says:
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الذي لا يَـضُرُّ مع اسْمِهِ شَيءٌ في الأرضِ ولا في السَّماءِ وهُوَ السَّميعُ العَليمُ
In the Name of Allaah, with Whose Name nothing can be harmed- neither on earth nor in the heaven, and He is the All-Seeing, the All-Hearing”- 3 times. He will not be afflicted with affliction [or a trial] until the morning. And whoever says it three times when he wakes up, he will not be inflicted with an affliction [or trial] until the evening. [Reported by Imaam Abu Daawud and others] [Ref 6]
[بِسْمِ اللَّهِ]- Meaning: In the Name of Allaah I seek refuge. [الذي لا يَـضُرُّ مع اسْمِهِ شَيءٌ في الأرضِ – with Whose Name nothing can be harmed- neither on earth nor in the heaven]- Meaning: The one who seeks refuge in Allaah’s Name, then indeed he will not be harmed by a calamity that occurs in the earth nor that which comes from the heaven.
[وهُوَ السَّميعُ العَليمُ – and He is the All-Seeing the All-Hearing]- Meaning: He [Allaah] hears all the statements of His slaves, The One who knows all their actions and nothing is hidden from Him on the earth nor in the heaven. [Ref 7]
Say to the fear-mongers in the media that Allaah [The Most High] said:
The likeness of those who take Auliya’ (protectors and helpers) other than Allaah is as the likeness of a spider, who builds (for itself) a house, but verily, the frailest (weakest) of houses is the spider’s house, if they but knew. [Surah Al-Ankabut. Aayah 41]
Allaah mentioned that they are weak and that those whom they take as protectors and helpers are weaker than them. So with regards to their weakness and their goal behind taking others as protectors and helpers besides Allaah, they are similar to a spider that builds a house and it is the frailest and weakest of houses. Based on this parable, the polytheists become much weaker when they take others as protectors and helpers besides Allaah, and they do not benefit from those they take as protectors and helpers besides Allaah, just as Allaah stated [in another Aayah]:
وَٱتَّخَذُواْ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ ءَالِهَةً۬ لِّيَكُونُواْ لَهُمۡ عِزًّ۬ا
كَلَّاۚ سَيَكۡفُرُونَ بِعِبَادَتِہِمۡ وَيَكُونُونَ عَلَيۡہِمۡ ضِدًّا
And they have taken (for worship) Aaliha (gods) besides Allah, that they might give them honour, power and glory (and also protect them from Allah’s Punishment etc.). Nay, but they (the so-called gods) will deny their worship of them, and become opponents to them (on the Day of Resurrection). [Surah Maryam. Aayaat 81-82]
And Allaah [The Most High] said:
وَٱتَّخَذُواْ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ ءَالِهَةً۬ لَّعَلَّهُمۡ يُنصَرُونَ
لَا يَسۡتَطِيعُونَ نَصۡرَهُمۡ وَهُمۡ لَهُمۡ جُندٌ۬ مُّحۡضَرُونَ
And they have taken besides Allaah Aaliha (gods), hoping that they might be helped (by those so-called gods). They cannot help them, but they will be brought forward as a troop against those who worshipped them (at the time of Reckoning). [Surah Yaa Seen. Aayaat 74-75]
And after mentioning the destruction of the nations of the polytheists, Allaah said:
We wronged them not, but they wronged themselves. So their Aaliha (gods), other than Allah, whom they invoked, profited them naught when there came the Command of your Lord, nor did they add aught (to their lot) but destruction. [Surah Hud. Aayah 101]
These four places in the Qur’aan show that the one who takes protectors and helpers besides Allaah- through whom he seeks to strengthen himself, behave arrogantly and prevail- will not achieve except the opposite, and there is a lot more about this affair in the Qur’aan. This is one of the finest parables and the clearest proofs regarding the falsehood of Shirk and the deprivation of the one who commits Shirk, and that he will achieve the opposite of what he seeks. [Ref 8]
Allaah gave this similitude regarding those who worship others alongside Him, seeking honour, strength and benefit by way of it; but Allaah says that the affair is the opposite of the goal they seek, because their likeness is that of a spider that builds a house to protect itself from the heat, cold and harm; but the frailest and weakest of houses is the spider’s house.
The spider is one of those weak animals and its house is one of the weakest of houses, and building its house does not increase it in anything except weakness. Likewise, this is the case regarding those who take protectors and helpers besides Allaah; they are in need and incapable in every way when they take protectors and helpers besides Allaah to seek honour and help by way of them; so they increase weakness on their weakness, and feebleness on their feebleness, because indeed they rely on them in many of their affairs related to their well-being and entrust it to them, refrain from achieving it themselves and [hoping] that these [so-called] protectors and helpers will fulfil it; but they forsake them- neither receive anything [useful, beneficial etc] nor the least [gain, benefit etc] from their help. Had they been acquainted with the reality of knowledge- their situation and that of those whom they take as protectors and helpers besides Allaah, they would not have done so; rather they would have freed themselves from them and take Allaah as Protector and Helper- The Lord Who is able to do all things, The One Who Bestows His Special Mercy to the Believers; Who – when a servant takes Him as a Protector and an Ally, He suffices him, looks after both his religious and worldly affairs, increase him in strength upon strength in his heart [i.e. Eemaan], his body [i.e. grant him ability to seek after what is beneficial etc], in all his circumstances and deeds. [Ref 9]
We ask Allaah to protect us from the exaggerations, lies and fear-mongering of the proponents of kufr, shirk and superstition Aameen.
