Beguilers Seeking to Cure The Incurable (Capitalism) – After Lockdowns – as Well as Failing to Rebut Its Main Unjust Foundation [Riba- Usury]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Beguilers Seeking to Cure The Incurable (Capitalism) – After Lockdowns – as Well as failing to Rebut Its Main Unjust Foundation [Riba- Usury]: [Brief Response to Some So called Muslim Intellectuals Who Make Evil Proposals to Muslim Rulers and Thus Expose Them to The Harm of The Wicked Takfeeris Extremists)]

Abu Sa’eed Al-Khudri [may Allaah be pleased with him] said, “The Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said, “Allaah never sends a Prophet or gives the Caliphate to a Caliph, except that he (the prophet or the Caliph) has two groups of advisors: A group advising him to do good and exhorts him to do it, and the other group advising him to do evil and exhorts him to do it. But the protected person (against such evil advisors) is the one protected by Allah”. (1)

Few Reminders From The Above Hadeeth

a: With regards to a prophet, there maybe those who seek to divert him from what is good, but it can never be the case that he will listen to them, because the Prophets are protected by Allaah and at the end of the hadeeth it is stated, “But the protected person (against such evil advisors) is the one protected by Allah”. Therefore, the presence of one who seeks to direct a prophet to evil does not necessitate that the prophet will accept what he says.

It is also said that the intent behind the two advisers (mentioned in this hadeeth with regards to their relationship) to a prophet are the angles and shaytaan, (as the Prophet said in a hadeeth), “There is no one among you but a companion from among the jinn has been assigned to him.” They said, “Even you, O Messenger of Allaah?’ He said, “Even me, but Allaah helped me with him and he became Muslim (or: and I am safe from him), so he only enjoins me to do that which is good.” (2)

In another narration, it is stated that the person is assigned a companion among the jinn and a companion among the angels. (3)

b: “But the protected person (against such evil advisors) is the one protected by Allah” – Meaning Allaah is the one who protects whoever He wishes. So, in reality you cannot find anyone who can protect himself except if Allaah protects him.

c: It is incumbent upon a ruler to have a person who unveils to him the circumstances of the people in private, and this person should be trustworthy, reliable, smart and sensible, because calamity befalls a reliable ruler due to accepting speech of one who is not trustworthy.

Also, the one who is given responsible over the affairs of the people may always accept the speech of good advisers and not that of evil advisers. This is what is suitable to attribute to a Prophet and it is established by the word [ عصمة – protection] at the end of the hadeeth.

It may be that a ruler accepts the speech of evil advisers, especially someone who is a disbeliever. So, he may accept the speech of these people at times (evil people) and the speech of those at other times (i.e. good people). (4)

Those Who Make Corrupt Suggestions to Muslim Rulers

Some so called writers and Muslim intellectuals say: The lockdowns and the economic hardships faced by both individuals and nation states warrants serious discussion regarding the global economic system. The existing form of Capitalism must be replaced with what they call Conscious Capitalism, which would be based on a society-first approach and justice that will eradicate the neo-liberal orthodox approach and the economic policies that do not give priority to society. This new idea – as they say – is adopted by economies of the Atlantic belt, where they experienced the first version of Capitalism between 1820 and 1929 and the second version between 1980 and 2008, and by the emerging economies stretching from Latin America to Africa and Asia. If Capitalism is to survive in the 21st century, then there is a need to prioritize inclusiveness and sustainability, because a capitalism that gives no concern to inequality of income distribution among the economic stakeholders that produce added value will now be the forerunner of a bigger disaster for national economies, and this why new emerging economies, especially in Africa are now looking for new partners and strategic collaborations based on the win-win principle. This is what they call “conscious Capitalism” and it helps the leading economies to be more compassionate etc.

Firstly, when the likes of these statements are uttered by so called Muslims intellectuals and then propagated amongst Muslim students in universities, colleges and other institutions, then one must be reminded of the fact that there is no solution to the problem of Riba, except to eradicate it completely. The basis of Capitalism is Riba and there can never be justice and fair play in the global economy when Riba is still rife. Read article by Shaikh Abu Khadeejah [may Allaah preserve him]: https://www.abukhadeejah.com/the-grave-crime-of-usury-and-interest-riba-based-transactions-what-is-allowed-and-what-is-not/

Secondly, what is the ruling on Capitalism? Imaam Abdul Azeez Bin Baaz [may Allaah have mercy upon him] was asked: “What is the ruling of Islam regarding the application of socialist and capitalist methodologies in Islamic countries?”

Answer: Neither the application of socialism nor capitalism is permissible. It is obligatory to apply Allaah’s Sharee’ah. It is obligated on the kings and leaders to apply Allaah’s Sharee’ah. They should not make permissible what Allaah has forbidden of usury. They should not make make lawful that which Allaah has made unlawful with regards to the wealth of the Muslims because of socialism or communism; rather, it is obligated on all the leaders who ascribe to Islam to judge by Allaah’s Sharee’ah. [NB: Must read “Footnote a” about the ruling on judging by other than the Sharee’ah]

Neither should they acknowledge capitalism, nor socialism, communism, nor secularism. It is obligated on them to cautious of all these affairs, and they should adhere to Allaah’s Sharee’ah and to be steadfast upon it. Capital must be dealt with within the confines of the Sharee’ah. Capital has been mentioned and recognised by the Sharee’ah, but is to be dealt with within the confines of the Sharee’ah. It is not permissible to use capital in what Allaah has forbidden, such as usury, gambling and so on. Wealth belongs to its owners and they dispose of it in a manner legislated by Allaah. The application of socialism and communism is false. Taking and confiscating people’s wealth is falsehood and evil reprehensible that is in opposition to the Sharee’ah and sound reasoning; but the one who adheres to Allaah’s Sharee’ah must manage his wealth according to Allaah’s Sharee’ah, and not in the manner of Western capitalism – in usury, gambling and the like. None has the right to confiscate people’s wealth and to transgress against them because of his affiliation with communism or socialism. [NB: Must read “Footnote b” regarding how to deal with rulers when they are oppressive or when they give preference to others over you]

The people of Islam and the rulers of Muslims are obligated to abide by Allaah’s Sharee’ah in everything, and it is not permissible for them to deviate from Allaah’s Sharee’ah – neither towards the path of the east nor the west. (5)

Thirdly, one should thank Allaah for protecting him or her from the beguilement that has afflicted the hostile militant secularists – those who constantly attack Islam, seeking to give it a repugnant image and claiming that it is not suitable for Muslims! They utter this falsehood because Islam stands in their way whilst they seek to corrupt the worldly affairs and enslave the poorer nations through Riba and other unjust dealings. They know that Islam is the only perfect solution to all the problems if the Qur’an and authentic Sunnah are applied based on the understanding of the Prophet’s companions, and thus humankind will enjoy success in this life and eternal success in the afterlife. However, the spiteful ones amongst the militant secularists are drowned in beguilement. Allaah [The Exalted] said:

Is he, then, to whom the evil of his deeds made fair-seeming, so that he considers it as good (equal to one who is rightly guided)? Verily, Allah sends astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. So destroy not yourself (O Muhammad ) in sorrow for them. Truly, Allah is the All-Knower of what they do! [Surah Al-Faatir. Verse 8]

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

Is he who was dead (without Faith by ignorance and disbelief) and We gave him life (by knowledge and Faith) and set for him a light (of Belief) whereby he can walk amongst men, like him who is in the darkness (of disbelief, polytheism and hypocrisy) from which he can never come out? Thus it is made fair-seeming to the disbelievers that which they used to do. [Surah Al-An’aam. Verse 122]

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

Is then He (Allah) Who takes charge (guards, maintains, provides, etc.) of every person and knows all that he has earned (like any other deities who know nothing)? Yet they ascribe partners to Allah. Say: “Name them! Is it that you will inform Him of something He knows not in the earth or is it (just) a show of false words.” Nay! To those who disbelieve, their plotting is made fairseeming, and they have been hindered from the Right Path, and whom Allah sends astray, for him, there is no guide. For them is a torment in the life of this world, and certainly, harder is the torment of the Hereafter. And they have no protector against Allah. [Surah Ar-Rad. Verses 33-34]

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

Verily, those who believe not in the Hereafter, We have made their deeds fair-seeming to them, so they wander about blindly. They are those for whom there will be an evil torment (in this world). And in the Hereafter they will be the greatest losers. [Surah An-Naml. Verses 4-5]

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

Verily, We sent (Messengers) to many nations before you (O Muhammad ). And We seized them with extreme poverty (or loss in wealth) and loss in health with calamities so that they might believe with humility. When Our Torment reached them, why then did they not believe with humility? But their hearts became hardened, and Shaitan (Satan) made fair-seeming to them that which they used to do. So, when they forgot (the warning) with which they had been reminded, We opened to them the gates of every (pleasant) thing, until in the midst of their enjoyment in that which they were given, all of a sudden, We took them to punishment, and lo! They were plunged into destruction with deep regrets and sorrows. So the roots of the people who did wrong were cut off. And all the praises and thanks be to Allah, the Lord of the ‘Alamin (mankind, jinns, and all that exists). [Surah Al-An’aam. Verses 42-45]

Allaah [The Exalted] said:
تَٱللَّهِ لَقَدۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَآ إِلَىٰٓ أُمَمٍ۬ مِّن قَبۡلِكَ فَزَيَّنَ لَهُمُ ٱلشَّيۡطَـٰنُ أَعۡمَـٰلَهُمۡ فَهُوَ وَلِيُّہُمُ ٱلۡيَوۡمَ وَلَهُمۡ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ۬

By Allah, We indeed sent (Messengers) to the nations before you (O Muhammad ), but Shaitan (Satan) made their deeds fair-seeming to them. So he (Satan) is their Wali (helper) today (i.e. in this world), and theirs will be a painful torment. [Surah An-Nahl. Verse 63]

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

And so We have appointed for every Prophet enemies – Shayaateen (devils) among mankind and jinns, inspiring one another with adorned speech as a delusion (or by way of deception). If your Lord had so willed, they would not have done it, so leave them alone with their fabrications.” [Surah Al-An’aam. Verse 112]

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said: Allaah [Glorified be He] stated that they aid one another in opposing the command of the Prophets with what some of them inspire others of adorned speech, so that the gullible and feeble minded people are misled by it. He [The Most High] stated the reason behind a perpetrator’s [adorned speech] and the reason why it is accepted by the people; then He [The Most High] mentioned [in ayah 113 Al-An’aam] the effects it has on those ignorant souls. When those souls incline towards such adorned speech and become pleased with it, they carry out what it calls them to do -in speech and action. Therefore, ponder upon these verses and the sublime meanings they convey, for they clarify the roots of false principles and alert a person against them. And if you ponder upon the statements of the people of falsehood, you will indeed find them clothed with expressions and presented in a good light with sophisticated terms, which are quickly accepted by those deprived of sound discernment-to the extent that the wicked sinners would give [good] names to the greatest types of wicked deeds. (6)

Finally, rejecting the kufr (disbelief) of the militant secularists- their false beliefs and forbidden dealings – does not mean that they are oppressed, deceived and their rights violated; rather a Muslim behaves well in society. Read article by Shaikh Abu Khadeejah – [may Allaah preserve him] – titled: Living With Non-Muslims In The West: With Fine Conduct: https://www.abukhadeejah.com/living-with-non-muslims-in-the-west-with-fine-conduct/

Therefore, we are free from the deeds of the terrorists (Khaarijites, ISIS, Al-Shabab and their affiliates) – those who act treacherously towards their fellow non-Muslim citizens and violate their covenants. Imaam Muhammad Ibn Saaleh al-Uthaymeen [may Allaah have mercy upon him] reminded the Muslims living in the West as follows: “Likewise I invite you [i.e. Muslims] to have respect for those people who have the right that they should be respected, from those between you and whom there is an agreement (of protection) [i.e. Non-Muslims]. For the land which you are living is such that there is an agreement between you and them. If this were not the case they would have killed you or expelled you. So preserve this agreement, and do not prove treacherous to it, since treachery is a sign of the hypocrites, and it is not from the way of the Believers. And know that it is authentically reported from the Prophet that he said : “Whoever kills one who is under an agreement of protection will not smell the fragrance of Paradise.” Do not be fooled by those sayings of the foolish people : those who say : ‘Those people are Non-Muslims, so their wealth is lawful for us [i.e. to misappropriate or take by way of murder and killing].’ For by Allaah – this is a lie. A lie about Allaah’s Religion, and a lie in Islamic societies. So we may not say that it is lawful to be treacherous towards people whom we have an agreement with. O my brothers. O youth. O Muslims. Be truthful in your buying and selling, and renting, and leasing, and in all mutual transactions. Because truthfulness is from the characteristics of the Believers, and Allaah – the Most High – has commanded truthfulness – in the saying of Allaah – the Most High – “O you who believe – fear and keep you duty to Allaah and be with the truthful”. And the Prophet encouraged truthfulness and said : “Adhere to truthfulness, because truthfulness leads to goodness, and goodness leads to Paradise; and a person will continue to be truthful, and strive to be truthful until he will be written down with Allaah as a truthful person”. And he warned against falsehood, and said : “Beware of falsehood, because falsehood leads to wickedness, and wickedness leads to the Fire. And a person will continue lying, and striving to lie until he is written down with Allaah as a great liar.” O my brother Muslims. O youth. Be true in your sayings with your brothers, and with those Non-Muslims whom you live along with – so that you will be inviters to the Religion of Islaam, by your actions and in reality. So how many people there are who first entered into Islaam because of the behaviour and manners of the Muslims, and their truthfulness, and their being true in their dealings”. Allaah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said, “Indeed, you will see Atharatan after me and affairs you’ll disapprove; they [i.e. the people] said, ‘What do you command us O Allaah’s Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasaallam]?’ He said, ‘Fulfil their rights [i.e. the rulers] and ask Allaah for your rights’”. Atharatan: meaning- [some people will give precedence to themselves (i.e. spend wealth on themselves and engage in worldly enjoyment, but will not give others their rightful share)].

Al-Allaamah Zaid Bin Haadi Al-Madkhali [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said: This authentic hadeeth is related to the affair of the rulers- during the end of time – when they will give precedence to themselves through enjoyment of the worldly things and those under their authority will face harm, something of oppression and tyranny; so the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] guided and directed the people to fulfil the rights of the rulers; obey and listen to them in that which is good- whether it is during a time in which one is enthusiastic (to listen and obey them in what is good) or being lackadaisical, perform Jihaad behind their banner against the enemies of the religion, establish the prayer and behave in a manner obligated by the Islamic legislation. They should not rebel against the ruler just because he is a sinner or an oppressor, nor refrain from giving him the rights obligated on them to give him; rather they should fulfil his rights just as the Prophet  commanded them, saying, “Fulfil their rights”.

Therefore, the ruler has rights that should be fulfilled by his subjects and the subjects also have rights to be fulfilled by the ruler. It is obligated on the ruler to fulfil their rights and it is obligated on them to fulfil his rights. However, if he [i.e. the ruler] falls short in something related to their rights, it is not permissible for them to [deliberately] fall short in fulfilling his rights. And due to the great importance of rulership and the rulers, indeed the Prophet commanded them to fulfil the obligation of As-sam’i Wat-taa’ah [i.e. to listen and obey the ruler in good], refrain from disobedience[when commanded to do something good], supplicate to Allaah to make their affairs easy and change their state of affairs to that which is good, aid them to fulfil their needs and those affairs they cannot do without.

This hadeeth contains a miracle of the Prophet and that is the fact that he clearly stated that during the end of time, the rulers will give precedence to themselves with something of wealth and worldly enjoyment, and others will be deprived of it. Also, there will be affairs which the people of sound judgement will reject. When this era comes, it is obligated on them – those under the rulership of a Muslim ruler – to listen and obey in that which is good, fulfil the rights that have been obligated on them to fulfil and seek their rights from Allaah – meaning: they supplicate to Allaah to aid them in fulfilling their needs and facilitate them with ease in their affairs. And Allaah knows best. [At-taleeqaatul Maleehah Alaa Silsilah Al-Ahaadeeth As-Saheehah. Vol 1. Page 142. slightly paraphrased]
