In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Imaam As-Sadi [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said: The goals and policies of the people varies in the issue of wealth and poverty due to their personal interests and not based on adherence to the truth and giving consideration to the overall public interest. All of them erred (and missed) the path that would lead to beneficial results, because they did not adhere to the guidance of the Islamic religion. Their ideas varied and they acted accordingly, and thus widespread evil occurred, and great strife occurred between those who claimed to support the poor and the workers and those who cling to riches and wealth. They have a long discussion on this subject matter and all of it is tantamount to error and misguidance. And Allaah has guided the believers to a straight path in all their affairs in general, and in this matter in particular.

Commentary: The Shaikh (Imaam As-Sadi) mentioned the problem related to wealth and poverty. There are many studies – as the Shaikh mentioned- on how to solve the problem of wealth and poverty- some seek to solve this problem based on personal goals, others seek to solve this problem based on what will secure their personal interests, and there are those who seek to solve this problem without giving consideration to the poor. All these people – as the Shaikh stated- missed the right path and thus great trial occurred between those who claim to aid the poor and the workers and those who cling to wealth and riches.
