Some Excellent Characteristics and Virtues of The Islamic Religion – By Imaam As-Sadi [Part 12]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Imaam As-Sadi [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said:

What the Sharee’ah brought regarding the legislation of contract documents – by way of which the rights of people are affirmed, prevents denial and removes doubts in relation to affairs such as deposits, guarantees for repayment of loans and sureties, which when the one who owes a right is not able to fulfil it, then the one who is owed refers back to the contract document – is like a witness (or certification) by way of which rights are fulfilled. The various benefits in this affair are apparent – the preservation of rights, expanding mutual dealings, establishing them based on equity and justice, rectification of affairs and integrity. Were it not for the contract documents, the majority of transactions would have been nullified, because they are beneficial for one entrusted with an affair and beneficial – in many well known ways – for the one who owes a right to be fulfilled. Appendix a: Allaah [The Exalted] said:

O you who believe! When you contract a debt for a fixed period, write it down. Let a scribe write it down in justice between you. Let not the scribe refuse to write as Allah has taught him, so let him write. Let him (the debtor) who incurs the liability dictate, and he must fear Allah, his Lord, and diminish not anything of what he owes. But if the debtor is of poor understanding, or weak, or is unable himself to dictate, then let his guardian dictate in justice. And get two witnesses out of your own men. And if there are not two men (available), then a man and two women, such as you agree for witnesses, so that if one of them (two women) errs, the other can remind her. And the witnesses should not refuse when they are called on (for evidence). You should not become weary to write it (your contract), whether it be small or big, for its fixed term, that is more just with Allah; more solid as evidence, and more convenient to prevent doubts among yourselves, save when it is a present trade which you carry out on the spot among yourselves, then there is no sin on you if you do not write it down. But take witnesses whenever you make a commercial contract. Let neither scribe nor witness suffer any harm, but if you do (such harm), it would be wickedness in you. So be afraid of Allah; and Allah teaches you. And Allah is the All-Knower of each and everything. Intellectual (or Ideological) War- Part 1: By Imaam Abdul Azeez Bin Baaz

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Question: What is the definition of intellectual (or ideological) war in your view?

Answer: Intellectual (or ideological) war is a modern term meaning a host of efforts undertaken by one nation to overcome or influence another nation until it leads it to a specific orientation. It is more dangerous than a military expedition, because indeed an intellectual (or ideological) war tends to be in secret and the aims are hidden at the beginning; so the nation being invaded (intellectually or ideologically) neither perceives it nor is it prepared to stop and confront it, until it falls prey to it. And the result is that this nation will become decadent in thought and perception – loving what its enemy wants it to love and hating what it wants it to hate. It is a chronic disease that destroy nations, takes away their personality and removes the meanings of their true identity and strength in that. The nation that is afflicted by it neither perceives what has befallen it nor knows about it, so therefore it becomes a difficult task to cure this nation and making it understand the path to guidance is something difficult. This (intellectual or ideological) war takes place through the general educational and cultural curricula, mass media, literature (or publications) – small and large, and other matters relating to nations. The enemy behind (this nation) hopes to divert it from its (sound) creed and make it cling to what it presents to it. We ask Allaah for safety and wellbeing. (1) [End of quote]

Food For Thought Whenever Contemporary Ideologues and Their Wealthy Allies Manifest Their Raging Obsession With Self-entitlement and Control!

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Food For Thought Whenever Contemporary Ideologues and Their Wealthy Allies Manifest Their Raging Obsession With Self-entitlement and Control, Whilst Disguising It With The Claim That They Are Pursuing Upright Social Welfare, Security and Prosperity For Future Generations

An Example of How Tyrants Utilized Deception In The Past

Allaah [The Most High] says: [وَلَقَدۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَا مُوسَىٰ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَآ – And indeed We did send Musa (Moses) with Our Aayaat (i.e. proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations)]: Meaning, Aayaat which clearly showed that what Moosaa [peace be upon him] brought was truth- those Aayaat which Allaah [The Most High] showed Fir’awn, his chiefs and his people, such as the miracles Moosaa was allowed to perform with his stick, which turned into a serpent, the locusts and lice which Allaah [The Most High] sent as a punishment to Fir’awn and his people etc

[وَلَقَدۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَا مُوسَىٰ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَآ إِلَىٰ فِرۡعَوۡنَ وَمَلَإِيْهِۦ فَقَالَ إِنِّى رَسُولُ رَبِّ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِينَ – And indeed We did send Musa (Moses) with Our Ayat (i.e. proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations), to Fir’aun (Pharaoh) and his chiefs (inviting them to Allah’s Religion of Islam) He said: “Verily, I am a Messenger of the Lord of the ‘Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists)]: Meaning, Moosaa [peace be upon him] called them to single out Allaah [The Most high] in worship and forbade them from worshipping others besides Allaah.

Then Allaah [The Most High] said: [فَلَمَّا جَآءَهُم بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَآ إِذَا هُم مِّنۡہَا يَضۡحَكُونَ – But when he (Moosaa) came to them with Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) behold! They laughed at them]: Meaning, they rejected those signs and mocked at them due to transgression and arrogance, and not because those signs were insignificant and unclear. And this is why Allaah [The Most High] says:

[وَمَا نُرِيهِم مِّنۡ ءَايَةٍ إِلَّا هِىَ أَڪۡبَرُ مِنۡ أُخۡتِهَا‌ۖ – And not an Ayah (sign, etc.) We showed them but it was greater than its fellow]: Meaning, the signs that came last were greater than the previous ones. [وَأَخَذۡنَـٰهُم بِٱلۡعَذَابِ لَعَلَّهُمۡ يَرۡجِعُونَ – and We seized them with torment, in order that they might turn [from their polytheism to Allah’s Religion (Islamic Monotheism)].

However, whenever punishment came to them, Allaah [The Most High] says that they said: [يَـٰٓأَيُّهَ ٱلسَّاحِرُ -O you sorcerer!]: Meaning, O Moosaa! The sorcerer. They addressed him in such a manner either to falsely accuse him, or it may have been a praise – the manner in which they addressed those they considered to be from their scholars, their magicians.

[ٱدۡعُ لَنَا رَبَّكَ بِمَا عَهِدَ عِندَكَ إِنَّنَا لَمُهۡتَدُونَ -Invoke your Lord for us according to what He has covenanted with you. Verily, We shall guide ourselves (aright)]: Meaning, invoke your Lord on our behalf because your Lord has given you a high status and other special favours, so that this hardship is removed from us and we shall become rightly guided thereafter.

Then Allaah [The Most High] said: [فَلَمَّا كَشَفۡنَا عَنۡہُمُ ٱلۡعَذَابَ إِذَا هُمۡ يَنكُثُونَ -But when We removed the torment from them, behold! They broke their covenant]: Meaning, they did not fulfil their promise; rather they were treacherous and persisted upon disbelief. This behaviour of theirs is similar to what Allaah [The Most High] says about them in Surah Al-Araaf:

So We sent on them: the flood, the locusts, the lice, the frogs, and the blood: (as a succession of) manifest signs, yet they remained arrogant, and they were of those people who were Mujrimun (criminals, polytheists, sinners, etc.). And when the punishment fell on them they said: “O Musa (Moses)! Invoke your Lord for us because of His Promise to you. If you will remove the punishment from us, we indeed shall believe in you, and we shall let the Children of Israel go with you.” But when We removed the punishment from them to a fixed term, which they had to reach, behold! They broke their word!

Then Allaah says [The Most High] says:

[وَنَادَىٰ فِرۡعَوۡنُ فِى قَوۡمِهِۦ قَالَ يَـٰقَوۡمِ أَلَيۡسَ لِى مُلۡكُ مِصۡرَ وَهَـٰذِهِ ٱلۡأَنۡهَـٰرُ تَجۡرِى مِن تَحۡتِىٓ‌ۖ أَفَلَا تُبۡصِرُونَ – And Fir’aun (Pharaoh) proclaimed among his people, saying: “O my people! Is not mine the dominion of Egypt, and these rivers flowing underneath me. See you not then?]: Meaning, Fir’awn proclaimed – whilst exalting his falsehood, deceived by his Kingdom, transgressing all bounds due to his wealth and armies- that he is the king of Egypt, the judge in all the affairs in Egypt and the one whose castle is surrounded by rivers and springs, which everyone can see. Then Allaah [The Most High] says that Firawn said: [أَمۡ أَنَا۟ خَيۡرٌ۬ مِّنۡ هَـٰذَا ٱلَّذِى هُوَ مَهِينٌ۬ وَلَا يَكَادُ يُبِينُ – Am I not better than this one [Musa (Moses)], who is Mahin [has no honour nor any respect, and is weak and despicable] and can scarcely express himself clearly?]

May Allaah [The Most High] disfigure Fir’awn, for indeed he intended Moosaa [peace be upon him] by this description, even though Moosaa is one whom Allaah [The Most High] spoke to directly and one given high status by Allaah [The Most High]; however Fir’awn thought that he is honoured and Moosaa [peace be upon him] is dishonoured and disgraced. He also proclaimed that in addition to this, Moosaa cannot even speak clearly because he is not eloquent; but his insult against Moosaa that he cannot even express himself is not something blameworthy at all. That is because Moosaa was able to convey the message, even though he used encounter some difficulty when speaking.

Then Allaah [The Most High] says that Firawn said:

[فَلَوۡلَآ أُلۡقِىَ عَلَيۡهِ أَسۡوِرَةٌ۬ مِّن ذَهَبٍ أَوۡ جَآءَ مَعَهُ ٱلۡمَلَـٰٓٮِٕڪَةُ مُقۡتَرِنِينَ – Why then are not golden bracelets bestowed on him, or angels sent along with him?]

Then Allaah [The Most High] says: [فَٱسۡتَخَفَّ قَوۡمَهُ ۥ فَأَطَاعُوهُ‌ۚ إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُواْ قَوۡمً۬ا فَـٰسِقِينَ – Thus he [Fir’aun (Pharaoh)] befooled and misled his people, and they obeyed him. Verily, they were ever a people who were Fasiqun(rebellious, disobedient to Allah)]: Meaning, Fir’awn deceived them through those doubts, which were portrayed as something true. He deceived his people and his chiefs through words that neither carry any reality nor were such words a means by way of which truth could be distinguished from falsehood. And those words cannot deceive, except the possessors of feeble intellects. Fir’awn did not possess any proofs, rather he only stated that he was the king of Egypt (at the time) and that the rivers flow beneath him. He did not produce any proof to nullify the message brought by Moosaa, even though Moosaa had few followers, found it hard to express himself clearly and did not possess the riches that Firawn possessed. However, the fact of the matter is that Fir’awn’s chiefs had no common sense, so they followed whatever he said -whether truth or falsehood. And because they were rebellious sinners, Fir’awn beautified Shirk and evil for them. (1)

Propaganda, Demagoguery and Fearmongering

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

وَقَالَ فِرۡعَوۡنُ ذَرُونِىٓ أَقۡتُلۡ مُوسَىٰ وَلۡيَدۡعُ رَبَّهُ ۥۤ‌ۖ إِنِّىٓ أَخَافُ أَن يُبَدِّلَ دِينَڪُمۡ أَوۡ أَن يُظۡهِرَ فِى ٱلۡأَرۡضِ ٱلۡفَسَادَ

Fir’aun (Pharaoh) said: “Leave me to kill Musa (Moses), and let him call his Lord (to stop me from killing him)! I fear that he may change your religion, or that he may cause mischief to appear in the land!” [Surah Ghaafir. Verse 26]

Imaam As-Sadi [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said: Allaah (The Most High) said: [وَقَالَ فِرْعَوْنُ – Fir’aun (Pharaoh) said] – Meaning, with haughtiness and tyranny, whilst deluding his foolish people;

[ذَرُونِي أَقْتُلْ مُوسَىٰ وَلْيَدْعُ رَبَّهُ – Leave me to kill Musa (Moses), and let him call his Lord (to stop me from killing him)!] This was his (false) claim that had it not been for his consideration of the wishes of his people, he would have killed Musa and that (Musa’s) supplication to his Lord would not have prevented him from that. Fir’awn then mentioned what made him want to kill Musa and that he is a sincere adviser to his people, and that he wished to remove mischief from the land. Allaah (The Most High) stated that Fir’awn said:

[إِنِّي أَخَافُ أَنْ يُبَدِّلَ دِينَكُمْ أَوْ أَنْ يُظْهِرَ فِي الْأَرْضِ الْفَسَادَ – I fear that he (Musa) may change your religion, or that he may cause mischief to appear in the land!]

This is the most amazing the affair can be! The most evil one among the creation gives advice to the people against the best among the creation. This is (nothing but) disguised falsehood and propaganda, which cannot seize except the intellects of those (people) about whom Allaah stated:

[فَاسْتَخَفَّ قَوْمَهُ فَأَطَاعُوهُ ۚ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا قَوْمًا فَاسِقِينَ – Thus he Fir’aun (Pharaoh)] befooled and misled his people, and they obeyed him. Verily, they were ever a people who were Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient to Allah)]. [Surah Az-Zukhruf. Verse 54] (2)

Allaah [The Most High] said:

He [Fir’awn] said, “Have you come to drive us out of our land with your magic, O Moosaa? Then verily, we can produce magic the like thereof, so appoint a meeting between us and you, which neither we, nor you shall fail to keep, in an open wide place where both shall have a just and equal chance (and beholders could witness the competition)”. [Moosaa] said, “Your appointed meeting is the day of the festival, and let the people assemble when the sun has risen (forenoon)”. So Fir’awn withdrew, devised his plot and then came back. Musa (Moses) said to them, “Woe unto you! Invent not a lie against Allah, lest He should destroy you completely by a torment. And surely, he who invents a lie (against Allah) will fail miserably”. [Surah Taa Haa. Verses 57-61]

Imaam As-Sadi [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “He (Fir’awn) claimed that the signs which Moosaa [peace be upon him] showed him were nothing more than sorcery and illusions, and that the aim behind them was to drive them from their land and take it over. Fir’awn’s statements were intended to influence his people, because people are naturally attached to their homelands and it is difficult for them to abandon them. He told them that this was Moosaa’s goal, so that they would hate and oppose him. (3)

Divide and Rule

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

Verily, Fir’aun (Pharaoh) exalted himself in the land and made its people sects, weakening (oppressing) a group (i.e. Children of Israel) among them, killing their sons, and letting their females live. Verily, he was of the Mufsidoon]. [Surah Al-Qasas. Aayah 4]

Imaam Al-Aloosee [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “He divided them into different sects and they went along with him in everything he desired of evil and corruption, or he used some as a means to get others to obey him, or he made them into different distinct groups under his service and used every group in some type of work, such as construction, tillage, earthwork (drilling etc) and other burdensome work, and whoever did not work was beaten, so they served him by doing so; or he made them into sects and incited hatred and enmity between them, so that they do not come to an agreement (or become united in their stance against him). (4)

[ إِنَّهُ ۥ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُفۡسِدِينَ – Verily, he was of the Mufsidoon]- Meaning: Those whose intention is neither to rectify the religious nor worldly affairs, and this was from his corrupt behaviour in the earth. (5)

When They Gather Their Experts to Nullify The Truth and Then Become Violent After Some of Their Followers Abandon Them

[وَقَالَ فِرۡعَوۡنُ ٱئۡتُونِى بِكُلِّ سَـٰحِرٍ عَلِيمٍ۬ -And Fir’aun (Pharaoh) said: “Bring to me every well-versed sorcerer]; meaning: ”Everyone who is proficient in magic; magicians who can perform different types of magic and are at different levels of proficiency in their field”. So when the magicians arrived to defeat Moosaa and Haaroon, Allaah says that Moosaa said to them: [أَلۡقُواْ مَآ أَنتُم مُّلۡقُونَ-Cast down what you want to cast!]; Moosaa said this to them because he did not care about what they were going to do first, for he was certain that he will defeat them and nullify their falsehood (by the aid of Allaah). So after they threw their ropes, which appeared as serpents in the eyes of the people, Allaah says that Moosaa said to them:

مَا جِئۡتُم بِهِ ٱلسِّحۡرُ‌ۖ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ سَيُبۡطِلُهُ ۥۤ‌ۖ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يُصۡلِحُ عَمَلَ ٱلۡمُفۡسِدِينَ

What you have brought is sorcery, Allah will surely make it of no effect. Verily, Allah does not set right the work of Al-Mufsidun (the evil-doers, corrupts, etc.); meaning: Indeed, you want to aid falsehood against truth and Allaah will nullify your actions.

This will also be the case with every corrupter- the one who uses tricks, devices plots and evil plans- for indeed his deeds will be of no effect. And even if he has weapons to aid him pursue his goal at a particular time period, however the end result will be nothing for him and Allaah will make the truth apparent. As for those who do righteous deeds for the sake of Allaah -deeds that are based on the beneficial ways and are based on what Allaah has commanded- then indeed Allaah will bless their deeds, make them bear righteous end results and make them remain (as a source of good for themselves & an example for others to follow).

So when Moosaa threw his staff, it became a real serpent and swallowed all the ropes that were thrown by the magicians and made to look like serpents in the eyes of the people, and thus their magic was nullified and their falsehood obliterated. Allaah [The Most High] says: [وَيُحِقُّ ٱللَّهُ ٱلۡحَقَّ بِكَلِمَـٰتِهِۦ وَلَوۡ ڪَرِهَ ٱلۡمُجۡرِمُونَ – And Allah will establish and make apparent the truth by His Words, however much the Mujrimun (criminals, disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, etc.) may hate it].

After the magicians witnessed the truth, they prostrated (in repentance to Allaah); so Fir’awn threatened them – that he will crucify them, and cut their hands and legs, but they gave no concern to Fir’awn’s threats; rather they remained steadfast upon their Eemaan. As for Fir’awn and his chiefs, then not a single one of them believed, rather they persisted upon transgression, and this is why Allaah [The Most High] says:

But none believed in Musa (Moses) except the offspring of his people, because of the fear of Fir’aun (Pharaoh) and his chiefs, lest they should persecute them; and verily, Fir’aun (Pharaoh) was arrogant tyrant on the earth, he was indeed one of the Musrifun (polytheists, sinners and transgressors, those who give up the truth and follow the evil, and commit all kinds of great sins).

[فَمَآ ءَامَنَ لِمُوسَىٰٓ إِلَّا ذُرِّيَّةٌ۬ – But none believed in Musa (Moses) except the offspring of his people]; Meaning: The youth amongst Bani Israa’eel, who exercised patience due to the Eemaan that was firmly established in their hearts, whilst being in a state of fear because Fir’awn had complete authority and power in the land, so it is expected that he will seek to punish them, for he was an extreme transgressor.

And the wisdom -and Allaah knows best- behind the fact that only the offspring of Moosaa’s people believed in Moosaa, is because the offspring- the youth- are more likely to accept the truth and quicker to submit to it, as opposed to the old people and those similar to them – those who were brought up in a religion of disbelief, for indeed due to the corrupt creed that is established in their hearts, they are the ones most likely not to accept the truth. (6)

Whoever Perpetrates These Three Crimes Will Be Hunted By Them

It used to be said that whoever perpetrates these three acts  will be haunted by them:

Rebellion against Allaah’s commandments: Allaah [The Most High] said: [يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنَّمَا بَغْيُكُمْ عَلَىٰ أَنْفُسِكُمْ – O mankind! Your rebellion (disobedience to Allah) is only against your ownselves]. [Soorah Yoonus: Ayah: 23]

Evil plotting: Allaah [The Most High] said: [وَلَا يَحِيقُ الْمَكْرُ السَّيِّئُ إِلَّا بِأَهْلِهِ – But the evil plot encompasses only him who makes it]. [Soorah Faatir: Ayah: 43]

[3] Breaking pledges: Allaah [The Most High] said: [فَمَنْ نَكَثَ فَإِنَّمَا يَنْكُثُ عَلَىٰ نَفْسِهِ – Then whosoever breaks his pledge only breaks it to his own harm]. [Soorah Al-Fath: Ayah: 10] (7)

Imaam Abdur-Rahmaan Bin Naasir As-Sadi [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said: And what is well known is that Allaah neither loves ignorance nor doubts, neither confusion nor misguidance; rather He loves the religion, knowledge and certainty. Indeed, Allaah [The Most High] rebuked confusion, saying:

Say (O Muhammad): “Shall we invoke others besides Allah (false deities), that can do us neither good nor harm, and shall we turn on our heels after Allah has guided us (to true Monotheism)? – like one whom the Shayaateen (devils) have made to go astray, confused (wandering) through the earth, his companions calling him to guidance (saying): ‘Come to us.’ “Say: “Verily, Allah’s Guidance is the only guidance.’’ [Soorah Al An’aam: Ayah: 71]

Indeed, we have been commanded to ask Him (The Most High) to guide us to the straight path and this necessitates knowledge of the truth and acting upon it, and the Qur’aan is the cure, guidance and light. The Muslims are agreed [upon the fact] that doubt and confusion are unpraiseworthy, and it is expected – absolutely- that a person who does not possess knowledge of something is obligated to keep quiet and seek knowledge via its (sound) sources. Those atheists – the most doubtful of doubters, who command the people to eradicate the truth from the hearts in order to direct the hearts to other than it – are opponents of the Book, the Sunnah and the consensus of those considered to be people of sound reasoning. They (atheists) are followers of their misguided leaders. (1)

Imaam Ismaa’eel Bin Abdur-Rahmaan As-Sadee [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said: The people of shirk said to the Muslims: ‘’follow our path and abandon the religion of Muhammad [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him]”’, so Allaah revealed the ayah: ‘’Say (O Muhammad): Shall we invoke others besides Allah (false deities), that can do us neither good nor harm, and shall we turn on our heels;’’ Meaning: (shall we turn into) disbelief ‘’after Allah has guided us (to true Monotheism)?’’, and so that we become like you? – those whom the devils have made to go astray in the earth.

And so that we become like you by disbelieving after believing, similar to a man who set out on a road with some people, but he got lost. So, the devils made him confused and he wandered in the earth, whilst his companions are on the (right) road. His companions started calling him saying: ‘’Come to us, we are on the (right) road”, but he refuses to go to them. This is similar to the one who follows the (people of shirk) after being acquainted with the (message of) Muhammad, and Muhammad is the one calling to the (right) road and the road is Islaam. (2)

The Prophet Was Democratically Elected- [Absurd, Ridiculous and Corrupt Claim]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

The Messenger of Allaah [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said, “Verily, Allah does not take away knowledge by snatching it from the people, but He takes it away by the death of the religious scholars till none of the scholars remains alive. Then the people will take ignorant ones as their leaders, who, when asked to deliver religious verdicts, will issue them without knowledge, the result being that they will go astray and will lead others astray”. [Saheeh Al-Bukhari. Hadeeth Number 100]

Al-Haafidh Al-Qurtubiy [may Allaah have mercy upon him] stated in Al-Mufhim, “This text (proves) that indeed the disappearance of knowledge will not be by way of its removal from the hearts (of the people); but (it will be) through the death of the scholars; (then) the ignorant people will remain- those who will occupy the place of the scholars in teaching and giving verdicts. They will teach and give verdicts based on ignorance, so ignorance will spread and become manifest”. So, if the sound Sunni knowledge is taken away, then acting upon it will be taken away; is that not the case? When ignorance manifests, acting upon it will become manifest, so both knowledge and acting upon (Knowledge) will disappear, ignorance will manifest and acting upon (ignorance) will become widespread just as Al-Haafidh Al-Qurtubiy clarified in Al-Mufhim. [Source: Al-Hajr Fee Daw-il Kitaab Was-Sunnah Wa Fahm Salaf Al-Ummah. page: 15-16 By Shaikh Abdullah Al-Bukhaaree]

Indeed, manifest is the ignorance and deviation of the one who claims that the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] was democratically elected!

Firstly, what is democracy? It is said that the word democracy comes from the Greek words “demos”, meaning people, and “kratos” meaning power. So, democracy is considered to be “power of the people” and its proponents say that it is a government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly or indirectly through a system of representation usually involving periodically held elections. Therefore, we understand from this that in a democracy every sane adult is given a chance to be heard.

Indeed, this idea seems very appealing and attractive, but the Creator of the heavens and the earth legislated that humankind should return to the guidance of the Messengers [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon them] in all affairs. Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said: “And even though there is something in the paths of analogical reasoning and reflection that will lead to knowledge, however sometimes it cannot give detail explanation in a dispute between the people of the earth due to the minute details and ambiguities [in that dispute], and at other times due to the fact the people differ when prioritizing necessities. Therefore, due to this Allaah [The Most High] commanded [us] to return to the revelation in times of dispute. Allaah [The Most High] said:

Mankind were one community (i.e. upon Tawheed and Allaah’s Sharee’ah) and Allah sent Prophets with glad tidings and warnings, and with them He sent the Scripture in truth to judge between people in matters wherein they differed]. [Surah Al-Baqarah’ Aayah 213] Therefore, Allaah [The Most High] designated the revealed Books [i.e. the Qur’aan being the final of them] as the judge between the people in matters wherein they differ”. [An Excerpt From ‘Dar Ta’aarud Al-Aql Wan-Naql’. 9/17-18]

The Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said, “Banee Israa’eel used to be ruled and guided by prophets. Whenever a prophet died, another would take over his place. There will be no prophet after me, but there will be Caliphs who will increase in number.” The people asked, “O Allah’s Messenger! What do you order us (to do)?” He said, “Obey the one who will be given the pledge of allegiance first. Fulfil their (i.e. the Caliphs) rights, for Allah will ask them about (any shortcoming) in ruling those Allah has put under their guardianship.” [Saheeh Al-Bukhaaree 3455]

“Banee Israa’eel used to be ruled and guided by prophets”. Imaam Ibn Hajr [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “Whenever corruption appeared amongst them, Allaah sent them a Prophet to rectify their affairs and put an end to that which they changed in the rulings of the Torah”. [An Excerpt From ‘Fat’hul Baaree Sharh Saheeh Al-Bukhaari’. Vol 6. page 607. Publisher: Daarus Salaam. 1st Edition 1421AH (Year 2000)]

Indeed, this was what Allaah legislated for followers of the previous Prophets, but after the advent of Muhammad [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him], humankind have been commanded to follow his path and this is what the statement “Muhammad is the Messenger of Allaah” necessitates. It necessitates belief in everything he [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] has stated, obey him in everything he has commanded, keep away from everything he has forbidden and worship Allaah only based on what Allaah and Muhammad have legislated. To testify that Muhammad [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] is the Messenger of Allaah necessitates a testification regarding his Messengership. Allaah [The Exalted] said: [وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَا مِن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا لِيُطَاعَ بِإِذْنِ اللَّهِ – We sent no Messenger, but to be obeyed by Allah’s Permission]. [Surah An-Nisaa. Verse 64]

This is the purpose regarding which Allaah sent the Messengers, to be obeyed. It is not enough to say, “I testify that Muhammad is a Messenger”, but rather this testification necessitates that one follows the one who has been sent, obey his command, keep away from what he has forbidden and believe in everything he has stated. This is the true establishment of the statement “Muhammad is the Messenger of Allaah”, because the Messenger brought three affairs- commands, prohibitions and news, so whoever testifies to Muhammad’s Messenger ship must believe in everything Muhammad has stated.

The testimony that Muhammad is Allaah’s Messenger necessitates that he is followed just as the testimony that “There is no deity worthy of worship except Allaah” this statement necessitates that one establishes pure Islamic monotheism and sincerely devotes all the religion to Allaah alone.

Muhammad [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] is a Messenger of Allaah and a Messenger’s most important task is to convey the words of Allaah. Allaah said: [وَمَا عَلَى الرَّسُولِ إِلَّا الْبَلَاغُ – The Messenger’s duty is only to convey (the message)]. [Surah An-Noor. Aayah 54]

Indeed, the Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] did convey the message clearly. There is no good except that he has guided the Ummah to it and there is no evil except that he warned the Ummah against it. Therefore, whoever testifies that “Muhammad is the Messenger of Allaah” must submit to everything Muhammad has conveyed. Allaah said: [وَمَا آتَاكُمُ الرَّسُولُ فَخُذُوهُ وَمَا نَهَاكُمْ عَنْهُ فَانتَهُوا – And whatsoever the Messenger (Muhammad) gives you, take it, and whatsoever he forbids you, abstain (from it)]. [Surah Al-Hashr. Verse 7]

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

فَلَا وَرَبِّكَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ حَتَّىٰ يُحَكِّمُوكَ فِيمَا شَجَرَ بَيْنَهُمْ ثُمَّ لَا يَجِدُوا فِي أَنفُسِهِمْ حَرَجًا مِّمَّا قَضَيْتَ وَيُسَلِّمُوا تَسْلِيمًا

But no, by your Lord, they can have no Faith, until they make you (O Muhammad) judge in all disputes between them, and find in themselves no resistance against your decisions, and accept (them) with full submission. [Surah An-Nisaa. Aayah 65]

Allaah [The Exalted] said: [وَمَا كَانَ لِمُؤْمِنٍ وَلَا مُؤْمِنَةٍ إِذَا قَضَى اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَمْرًا أَن يَكُونَ لَهُمُ الْخِيَرَةُ مِنْ أَمْرِهِمْ – It is not for a believer, man or woman, when Allah and His Messenger have decreed a matter that they should have any option in their decision]. [Surah Al-Ahzaab. Verse 36]

So, the Messenger must be obeyed in what he has commanded and whoever obeys him has obeyed Allaah. Allaah [The Exalted] said: [مَّن يُطِعِ الرَّسُولَ فَقَدْ أَطَاعَ اللَّهَ – He who obeys the Messenger (Muhammad), has indeed obeyed Allah]. [Surah An-Nisaa. Verse 80]

Allaah [The Exalted] said: [قُلْ إِن كُنتُمْ تُحِبُّونَ اللَّهَ فَاتَّبِعُونِي يُحْبِبْكُمُ اللَّهُ – Say (O Muhammad to mankind): “If you (really) love Allah then follow me (i.e. accept Islamic Monotheism, follow the Qur’an and the Sunnah), Allah will love you”]. [Surah Aal Imraan. Verse 31]

The scholars refer to this verse [i.e. Verse 31, Surah Aal Imraan] as the verse that puts a person to trial regarding his (or her) claim, so whoever claims that he loves Allaah, then let him put himself to trial based on what will manifest evidence regarding his truthfulness in this matter. (1)

Question: How Do We Approach Our Customs When Striving to Follow The Sunnah?

Imaam Abdul Azeez Bin Baaz [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “It is obligated on every Muslim that he does not depend on custom; rather he presents it to the pure Islamic legislation (to be judged), so whatever the Islamic legislation affirms is permissible and whatever it does not affirm is impermissible. The customs of the people are not proof to determine the lawfulness of anything. All the customs of the people in their countries or tribes must be presented to the Book of Allaah and the Sunnah of His Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] for judgement, so whatever Allaah and His Messenger made permissible is permissible, and whatever they forbid, then it is obligatory to abandon it even if it is the custom of the people”. (2)

Imaam Muhammad Bin Saaleh Al-Uthaymeen [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “The customs cannot make something that is not legislated (in the divine revelation) as something legislated, because of Allaah’s statement: [وَلَيۡسَ ٱلۡبِرُّ بِأَن تَأۡتُواْ ٱلۡبُيُوتَ مِن ظُهُورِهَا – It is not Al-Birr (piety, righteousness, etc.) that you enter the houses from the back] [Surah Al-Baqarah. Aayah 189], despite the fact that it was something they took as their custom and considered it to be an act of righteousness. Whoever takes something as a custom and believes that it is an act of righteousness, then it should be presented to Allaah’s divine legislation [i.e. to be judged]”. (3)

Imaam Muhammad Bin Saaleh Al-Uthaymeen [may Allaah have mercy upon him] also said, “Extremism in related to customs is stringent adherence to old customs and not diverting to what is better than them. As for if the customs are equal in benefit [i.e. the ones judged to be permissible by the divine legislation], then a person remaining upon what he is upon would be better than going along with the new (or emerging) customs”. (4)

The Only Path to Salvation When Differing Occurs

The Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] also stated in the hadeeth reported by Irbaad Bin Saariyah [may Allaah be pleased with him], “Verily, the one who lives amongst you will see a lot of differing, so adhere to my Sunnah and the Sunnah of the Khulafaa Al-Mahdiyyeen Ar-Raashideen. Follow and adhere to it with your molars [ie. Strictly adhere to it], and beware of newly invented matters in the religion, because indeed every newly invented matters in the religion is an innovation in religion and every innovation in the religion is misguidance”. [Reported by Ahmad 17144. Abu Daawud 4608. Ibn Maajah 42]

Allaah [The Exalted] stated about the Muhammad [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him]:

[مَا ضَلَّ صَاحِبُكُمۡ وَمَا غَوَىٰ-Your companion (Muhammad) has neither gone astray nor has erred]- Meaning, that is because the Daal [misguided person] is one whose knowledge is corrupted and the Ghaawiy [astray one] is the one whose intent is corrupted. Also, the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] described his four khulafaa [Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthmaan and Ali] with the words “Raashideen and Mahdiyyeen”, because the Raashid [i.e. The one who is steadfast upon the right path and is firmly established upon it] is the opposite of the Ghaawiy [The one who strays from the right path or conduct], and the Mahdee [The one guided to the path of truth and yeilds obediently to it] is the opposite of the Daalun [the misguided one, especially in knowledge and creed]. (5)

Obedience to The Messenger Leads to Sound Unity

Allaah [The Most High] said:

وَأَطِيعُواْ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ ۥ وَلَا تَنَـٰزَعُواْ فَتَفۡشَلُواْ وَتَذۡهَبَ رِيحُكُمۡ‌ۖ وَٱصۡبِرُوٓاْ‌ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَعَ ٱلصَّـٰبِرِينَ

And obey Allah and His Messenger, and do not dispute [with one another] lest you lose courage and your strength depart, and be patient. Surely, Allah is with those who are As-Saabireen [the patient ones, etc.]. [Surah Al-Anfaal. Verse 46]

[وَأَطِيعُواْ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ ۥ – And obey Allah and His Messenger]- Meaning, obey Allaah and the Messenger in that which you have been commanded and adhere to this path in all circumstances. [وَلَا تَنَـٰزَعُواْ – and do not dispute (with one another)]-Meaning, do not dispute because it will cause your hearts to become disunited; [فَتَفۡشَلُواْ – lest you lose courage]; [وَتَذۡهَبَ رِيحُكُمۡ‌ۖ – and your strength depart]- Meaning, (If you do not obey Allaah and His Messenger, and you start disputing), your resolve will depart. You will lose your strength and the promise you have been given that you will be aided -due to obedience to Allaah and His Messenger- will be withdrawn. [وَٱصۡبِرُوٓاْ‌ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَعَ ٱلصَّـٰبِرِينَ – and be patient. Surely, Allah is with those who are As-Saabireen (the patient ones, etc.)]-Meaning, exercise patience in obedience to Allaah (and obedience to His Messenger), because indeed Allaah will aid you and give you victory. Fear your Lord and humble yourselves to Him. (6)

The Severe Consequences of Opposing The Sunnah of the Messenger

And Allaah (The Most High) said:

Make not the calling of the Messenger [Muhammad] among you as your calling of one another. Allah knows those of you who slip away under shelter [of some excuse without taking the permission to leave, from the Messenger]. And let those who oppose the Messenger’s [Muhammad] commandment [i.e. his Sunnah legal ways, orders, acts of worship, statements, etc.] [among the sects] beware, lest some Fitnah befall them or a painful torment be inflicted on them. [Surah An-Noor. Verse 63]

[فَلۡيَحۡذَرِ ٱلَّذِينَ يُخَالِفُونَ عَنۡ أَمۡرِهِۦۤ -And let those who oppose the Messenger’s (Muhammad) commandment (i.e. his Sunnah, orders, acts of worship, statements) beware]; [أَن تُصِيبَہُمۡ فِتۡنَةٌ – lest some Fitnah befall them]: Meaning: Lest misguidance, calamity in the worldly life or disbelief befall them.

[أَوۡ يُصِيبَہُمۡ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ – or a painful torment be inflicted on them]- Meaning, killed (by enemies) in the worldly life or punished in the hell fire in the afterlife. (7)

Imaam Ahmad [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said about this verse [i.e. Surah An-Noor. Verse 63], “Do you know what Al-Fitnah is? Al-Fitnah is Shirk. Perhaps if he (i.e. the person) rejects some of his (i.e. the Prophet’s) statements, then something of deviation enters his heart, so he is destroyed”. [Reported by Ibn Battah in Al-Ibaanah Al-Kubraa 97]

Narrated Abu Musa [may Allaah be pleased with him] that the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said, “’My example, and the example of what I have been sent with is that of a man who came to some people and said, O people! I have seen the enemy’s army with my own eyes and I am a plain warner; so protect yourselves!’ Then a group of his people obeyed him and fled at night proceeding stealthily till they were safe, while another group of them disbelieved him and stayed at their places till morning when the army came upon them and killed and ruined them completely. So this is the example of that person who obeys me and follows that truth which I have brought (the Qur’aan and the Sunnah), and the example of the one who disobeys me and disbelieves the Truth I have brought”. [Saheeh Al-Bukhaari. Vol 9. Number: 7283]

The Most Disobedient Person to The Messenger

Allaah (The Most High) said:

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَا تُقَدِّمُوا بَيْنَ يَدَيِ اللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ ۖ وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ

O you who believe! Do not put (yourselves) forward before Allah and His Messenger, and fear Allah. Verily! Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing. [Surah al-Hujuraat. Verse 1]

O you who believe! Raise not your voices above the voice of the Prophet…] [Surah Al-Hujuraat. Verse 2]

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said: When it is the case that Allaah forbade (them) from giving precedence to (themselves) over the Messenger, then which type of giving precedence to oneself over the Messenger can be more severe than giving precedence to one’s intellect over the revelation he was sent with? Many of the Salaf have stated (that this ayah means): ‘’Do not say anything (about the religion) until the messenger speaks and do not act until he commands you.’’

The most disobedient person amongst the people and the most severe with regards to giving precedence to him (or herself) over the Messenger is that one who gives precedence to his (or her) intellect or the intellect of another person over the revelation the Messenger was sent with. And when it is the case that Allaah has indeed forbidden them from raising their voices above the voice of the Messenger, then how about raising their intellects above the statements of the Messenger and the revelation he came with? (8)

Imaam Abdul Azeez Bin Baaz [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said:

In this great Soorah there are lofty benefits and rulings. The Muslims are greatly in need of understanding (it), being conscious of it and take benefit from it. In the first part, there is a warning against putting oneself forward before Allaah and His Messenger. And that which is obligated on the People of Eemaan is that they are to be followers and not innovators, and that they do not put themselves forward before Allaah and His Messenger.

The people of knowledge say (that this verse means), “Do not speak until you are commanded by Allaah and His Messenger, and do not act until the Messenger acts and legislates; do not put (yourselves) forward before him with either speech or action, (but) be followers of that which has been prescribed for you and that which has been made clear for you in the (Islamic) legislation”. This is the way the people of Eemaan are to be -they do not innovate acts of worship and rulings in Allaah’s Sharee’ah. Verily! Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing]- Meaning, Allaah hears their statements and nothing is hidden from Him with regards to your state of affairs. He hears the statements of the slaves and He knows their state of affairs. He knows the truth you utter and other than it. He knows what you do, the truth you utter and other than it. The meaning of (this is that): Be mindful of Him and be warned about (disobeying Him) because nothing is hidden from Him. He hears and He knows your state of affairs. Therefore, it is obligated on you to be followers, and not innovators in Allaah’s Sharee’ah. (9)

Therefore, that which has preceded above regarding the statement “Muhammad is the Messenger of Allaah” clearly manifests the extreme ignorance or corruption of the one who says that the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] was democratically elected. What he should have stated is that a person is given the free will to believe or disbelieve after the advent of the final Messenger – those who believe, submit and follow the Messenger are guided and those who turn away are misguided. The Messenger is to be obeyed and obedience to him is unconditional, because obedience to him is obedience to Allaah. Abu Musa [may Allaah be pleased with him] reported that the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said, “My example, and the example of what I have been sent with is that of a man who came to some people and said, O people!

Submission to Allaah’s Divine Law

Imaam Ash’Shaatibee [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said: Know that Allaah has established this sharee’ah as a proof against the creation [i.e. mankind and jinn] – the old and young alike; the obedient and the disobedient; the righteous and the wicked. He did not specify the proof against anyone in exclusion of another one. Also all the other revealed laws were established as proof against all the other nations to whom they were revealed. The Sharee’ah is the judge- restrictedly and unrestrictedly; the [source of judgement] and the judge on all those who have reached the age of responsibility. It is the path attached to [what Allaah has ordained] and the Greatest Guide. And have you not seen the statement of Allaah [The Most High]:

And thus We have sent to you (O Muhammad) Ruhan (an Inspiration, and a Mercy) of Our Command. You knew not what is the Book, nor what is Faith? But We have made it (this Qur’an) a light wherewith We guide whosoever of Our slaves We will. And verily, you (O Muhammad) are indeed guiding (mankind) to the Straight Path (i.e. Allah’s religion of Islamic Monotheism).’’ [Soorah Ash-Shooraa. Ayah: 52]

He [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] was the first to be guided to the Book and Eemaan, and then those who followed him. The Book is the Guide and also the Sunnah which was sent down upon him explains that guidance [i.e. the Sunnah and the Qur’aan explain each other]. All the creation [i.e. mankind and Jinn] are guided by it.

Therefore, when this is the case, the Sharee’ah is worthy of being a decisive proof against them [i.e. against mankind and Jinn] and a beacon by way of which they are guided to the truth. Their nobility is established in accordance with how far they embrace its rulings- through acting upon them in speech, belief and deeds– and not merely due to the level of their intellects or their nobility amongst their people. That is because Allaah [The Most High] has determined nobility through Taqwa and no other than it. Allaah [The Most High] said:

[إِنَّ أَڪۡرَمَكُمۡ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ أَتۡقَٮٰكُمۡ‌ۚ- Verily, the most honourable of you with Allah is that (believer) who has At-Taqwa] [49:13]

The one who is the firmest [in his or her] adherence to the Sharee’ah is more worthy of honour and nobility, but it is not possible for the one below this [i.e. the one whose adherence to the Sharee’ah is below that of the one who is firmest in adhering to it] to reach the highest level of honour based on his adherence to the Sharee’ah. Therefore, honour is [measured] in accordance with one’s [level of adherence] to the Sharee’ah”. [Al-Itisaam 3/434 slightly paraphrased]

Rulership In Islam After The Death of The Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him]

Shaikh Abdul Waahid Abu Khadeejah [may Allaah preserve him] said: After the Prophet [peace and blessings be upon him] died, there were differences of opinion about how the Muslims should be led and who should be given the leadership and authority. The Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) agreed that only the Qur’aan and Sunnah had the authority to tell the people what to do. They decided after looking into the Sunnah that Abu Bakr as-Siddeeq (may Allah be pleased with him) should be their leader – and that he would rule over them in accordance to the Qur’aan and Sunnah. So he was the first Caliph. The second Caliph, Umar Ibn al-Khattaab (may Allah be pleased with him) was appointed by Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him). The third Caliph, ‘Uthmaan Ibn ‘Affaan (may Allah be pleased with him) was chosen by a committee of the major disciples of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) who were appointed by ‘Umar before he passed away. The fourth Caliph, ‘Ali Ibn Abee Taalib (may Allah be pleased with him) was appointed by the major Companions after the assassination of ‘Uthmaan. ‘Ali gave his pledge of allegiance to the previous three Caliphs and supported them fully. He even named his children after them. [ https://www.abukhadeejah.com/sunni-and-shiah-islam-islam-1-13/ ]

Seeking After Leadership is Not Allowed

Imaam Al-Bukhaari [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, ‘’Chapter: If somebody does not seek authority of ruling, then Allaah will surely help him [if he is given such authority].’’ Narrated Abdur-Rahmaan Bin Samura: The Prophet [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] said, ‘’O Abdur-Rahmaan! Do not seek to be a ruler, for if you are given authority on your demand, then you will be held responsible for it, but if you are given it without asking [for it], then you will be helped [by Allaah] in it. If you ever take an oath to do something and later on you find that something else is better, then you should expiate your oath and do what is better.’’ [Saheeh Al-Bukhaari, Number 7146]

Few Reminders From Fat-hul Baari: The one who seeks authority and receives it will not be helped. It is well known that to be in authority is accompanied by difficulties, so the one who does not receive help from Allaah will be trapped within it and thus loses both his Dunyah and Aakhirah. Therefore, the sensible person does not ask for authority, but if he is suitable and it is given to him without him asking for it, then indeed the truthful and trustworthy one [i.e. The Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wsallam)] has promised him that Allaah will help him. [An Excerpt: Chapter: (باب من لم يسأل الإمارة أعانه الله عليها )in ‘kitaab al Ahkaam’ Saheeh Al-Bukhaari with Fat-hul Baari]

Indeed, when a Muslim examines the above – the manner in which the Prophet’s companions selected rulers, the responsibility of rulers and subjects, the prohibition against desiring rulership and rebellion, then indeed he or she understands that chaos and strife occurs when Muslims abandon the guidance found in the Qur’aan, the authentic Sunnah and the understanding of the Prophet’s companions. People deliberately turn away from this reality or they are ignorant of it when offering their so called analysis of the political situation in Muslim countries and thus the reader is not able to differentiate between the actions of misguided Muslims and what Islaam commands in this subject matter. Therefore, rather than merely looking at what any Muslim does in a particular situation, one should look at what Islaam commands and prohibits. If writers, researchers and analysts fail to do so, then there is no doubt that either they are unable to do justice to the subject matter or have understood the affair in a manner contrary to its true reality or deliberately seeking to tarnish the image of Islam through so-called political analysis.

Guidance of The Pious Predecessors When Someone Takes Over Authority By Force

The Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said, “I command you to have fear of Allaah, and to listen and obey even if a slave is placed in charge of authority over you…”

Al-Allaamah Saaleh Al-Fawzaan [may Allaah preserve him] said regarding the statement of the Prophet “Even if a slave is placed in charge of authority over you”, this is from an angle of giving an example – meaning the ruler is not belittled regardless who he is, even if he is a slave. As long as he is a leader of the Muslims, his personality is not belittled; rather his position and rulership is given consideration. As long as he has authority and the oath of allegiance has been given to him, then indeed it is obligatory to obey him [in good], even if he has mistakes…. [An Excerpt from Al-Mirhatur Rabbaaniyyah page 224]

Imaam Muhammad Ibn Saaleh Al-Uthaymeen [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “It is obligatory to obey the leader even if he is not king. It is well known that the Muslim Ummah – since the early era – have had a Khaleefah and king, and there are leaders of countries. Therefore, if it is obligatory to obey a leader, then more so a king is to be obeyed”. [Sharh Arba’een. page 279]

Imaam Ibn Rajab [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “The rulers and the leaders of the believers are to be obeyed and listened to [I.e. in good], whether he is a pious person or a wicked sinner, as well as whoever takes over the khilaafah and the people unite behind him and are pleased with him, and the one who overcome the people with the sword until he became the Khaleefah and is named leader of the Believers”. [Usool As-Sunnah. Riwaayatu Abdoos. Page 64]

The Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said, “Hear and obey the ruler in that which is difficult for you and in that which is easy for you, in times of invigoration and in times of dislike and weariness and when others are given preferential treatment over you – even if they take and consume your wealth and they beat your back – except that you do not obey them if it involves disobedience to Allāh.” [https://www.abukhadeejah.com/the-tyranny-of-the-rulers-a-reason-for-rebellion/ ] Also listen to lecture here by Shaikh Abu Iyaadh [may Allaah preserve him]: https://soundcloud.com/salafi-publications/principles-from-the-sunnah-regarding-dealing-with-the-muslim-rulers

Therefore, this is how the situation is deal with – obedience to the rulers and refraining from rebellion. We strive to obey our Lord in all circumstances whether the Muslims are ruled by one person or have different rulers in different lands. The infallible Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] said: “The Khilaafah will last for 30 Years Then There Will Kingship Which Allaah Gives To Whomever He Pleases”. Siyaasah, Seperation Between The Affairs of The State and The Rulings of The Religion, Ruling By The Secular Laws and a Rebuttal Against The Khaarijites (Terrorists)

Siyaasah means to regulate the affairs of the citizens- rules related to behaviour and upright rectification. It has jurisdiction over the individual’s behaviour and the society as a whole. It involves Islamic jurisprudence by way of which the rulers are facilitated with knowledge and understanding of the rulings related to looking after the affairs of the state, its set-ups and Sharee’ah principles. [At-taleeq Alaa As-Siyaasah Ash-Shar’iyyah. Slightly paraphrased. Page 5 by Imaam Muhammad Ibn Saaleh al Uthaymeen]

Imaam Muhammad Ibn Saaleh Al-Uthaymeen [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said: What is intended by ‘Separation between religion and Siyaasah’ is that the ruler can do what he wants based on what he thinks is a means of fulfilling (responsibilities related to) affairs of the state, whether it agrees with Sharee’ah or not; or even if what he does is based on the judgement of the religion, because the meaning of separation is to distinguish between two things and give them specific definitions. Therefore, in relation to this, the ruler looks at what he considers to be beneficial even if it opposes the Sharee’ah. There is no doubt that this is a false and sinful statement, because the religion itself is Siyaasah and Siyaasah itself is the religion, but what we mean by Siyaasah is the Siyaasah that is based on equity and not oppression. The religion of Islaam came to bring about wellbeing [and upright conduct] for the people in their behaviour towards their Lord and between themselves. It establishes the Rights of Allaah, rights for the people- rights for parents, relatives, wives and the Muslims – in general. And even for non-Muslims, Islam has given them rights that are well-known to the scholars. It laid down the means and conditions for war and peace making, punishments for crimes – some of which are determined by way of specific texts and some are left to the jurisdiction of the ruler, as well as other affairs which clearly shows that Islaam in its entirety is Siyaasah. The root of this word Siyaasah is Saa’is and that is the person who is responsible for looking after the affairs of animals – fulfilling that which brings them wellbeing and repelling that which will harm them. This is Siyaasah. We find this meaning when we contemplate on affairs of the religion, and that Allaah has legislated – for the servants – things without which humans will not be able to establish [a fruitful, stable, orderly, safe] life, and forbade them from things that will corrupt their state of affairs – either affecting everyone or specific individuals. Therefore, in reality the entire religion is Siyaasah. And we are certain that anyone who separates Siyaasah from the Religion and establishes Siyaasah based on what he sees fit and what he forbids, then indeed his Siyaasah is corrupt, and it will cause more harm than good. If it rectifies one affair based on his limited [or deficient] opinions, then indeed it greatly corrupts from another angle. So, this makes it incumbent that one contemplates on the state of affairs of those who base their Siyaasah on their desires and opinions, and became distanced from the religion of Islaam, you will find -after contemplating – that either all that Siyaasah is corrupt or most of it, and that if it rectifies an affair from one angle, it corrupts from another angle. So, based on this, separation between Siyaasah and Religion is a sinful deed and it is obligated on the one who seeks to rectify himself and others that he does so only based on the religion of Islaam. Ruling By The Secular Laws and a Rebuttal Against The Khaarijites (Terrorists):

Imaam Abdul-Azeez Bin Baaz [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “And whoever ruled by other than what Allaah has revealed then he will not be in other than one of four situations: The one who says, ‘I rule by this because it is superior to the Sharee’ah of Islaam’. Such a one is disbeliever in the sense of the major disbelief. The one who says, ‘I rule by this because it is like the Sharee’ah of Islaam, so ruling by it is permissible and ruling by the Sharee’ah is permissible’. Such a one is a disbeliever in the sense of the major disbelief. The one who says, ‘I rule by this and ruling by the Sharee’ah of Islaam is superior but ruling by other than what Allaah has revealed is permissible’. Such a one is a disbeliever in the sense of major disbelief. The one who says, ‘I rule by this’ while he believes that ruling by other than what Allaah has revealed is not permissible and who says that ‘the Sharee’ah of Islaam is superior and it is not permissible to ruler by other than it’ but he is neglectful, or treats matters lightly, or does this action due to a reason which proceeds from his rulers, then he is a disbeliever in the sense of minor disbelief which does not eject from the religion – and it is considered one of the greatest of major sins”. Believer’s Bahaviour Towards Muslim Rulers – [Supplicates For Them

Believer’s Bahaviour Towards Muslim Rulers – [Supplicates For Them….]

Behaviour of The Muslim Whilst Living In a Society Ruled By Secular Law:

Imaam Muhammad Ibn Saaleh Al-Uthaymeen [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said: Likewise I invite you [i.e. Muslims] to have respect for those people who have the right that they should be respected, from those between you and whom there is an agreement (of protection) [i.e. Non-Muslims]. For the land which you are living is such that there is an agreement between you and them. If this were not the case they would have killed you or expelled you. So preserve this agreement, and do not prove treacherous to it, since treachery is a sign of the hypocrites, and it is not from the way of the Believers.

And know that it is authentically reported from the Prophet that he said : “Whoever kills one who is under an agreement of protection will not smell the fragrance of Paradise.”

Do not be fooled by those sayings of the foolish people : those who say : ‘Those people are Non-Muslims, so their wealth is lawful for us [i.e. to misappropriate or take by way of murder and killing].’ For by Allaah – this is a lie. A lie about Allaah’s Religion, and a lie in Islamic societies.

So we may not say that it is lawful to be treacherous towards people whom we have an agreement with. O my brothers. O youth. O Muslims. Be truthful in your buying and selling, and renting, and leasing, and in all mutual transactions. Because truthfulness is from the characteristics of the Believers, and Allaah – the Most High – has commanded truthfulness – in the saying of Allaah – the Most High – “O you who believe – fear and keep you duty to Allaah and be with the truthful”

And the Prophet encouraged truthfulness and said : “Adhere to truthfulness, because truthfulness leads to goodness, and goodness leads to Paradise; and a person will continue to be truthful, and strive to be truthful until he will be written down with Allaah as a truthful person“.

And he warned against falsehood, and said : “Beware of falsehood, because falsehood leads to wickedness, and wickedness leads to the Fire. And a person will continue lying, and striving to lie until he is written down with Allaah as a great liar.”

O my brother Muslims. O youth. Be true in your sayings with your brothers, and with those Non-Muslims whom you live along with – so that you will be inviters to the Religion of Islaam, by your actions and in reality. So how many people there are who first entered into Islaam because of the behaviour and manners of the Muslims, and their truthfulness, and their being true in their dealings. Some Excellent Characteristics and Virtues of The Islamic Religion – By Imaam As-Sadi [Part 11]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Imaam as-Sadi [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said:

What the Sharee’ah brought about the command to prevent a person from spending his wealth if it is harmful to him or someone else, such as preventing the insane person, the young, the foolish and the like, and restraining the debtor’s spending for the sake of safeguarding his creditor: all this is from the excellence (or virtues) of the Sharee’ah, because even though a person is initially given complete freedom to spend his wealth, however if his behavior in this affair becomes more harmful than beneficial, and its evil is greater than its good, Allaah places a restriction on him based on what will be of benefit, as a guidance for people to hasten towards spending in every beneficial thing and not what is harmful. (1) See appendix a

Appendix a: Islam commanded that knowledge of trade and economic matters are learnt, to the extent that it commanded that young orphans are observed, taught how to engage in trade and seek earnings. Allaah [The Exalted] said: [وَٱبۡتَلُواْ ٱلۡيَتَـٰمَىٰ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا بَلَغُواْ ٱلنِّكَاحَ فَإِنۡ ءَانَسۡتُم مِّنۡہُمۡ رُشۡدً۬ا فَٱدۡفَعُوٓاْ إِلَيۡہِمۡ أَمۡوَٲلَهُمۡ‌ۖ – And try orphans (as regards their intelligence) until they reach the age of marriage; if then you find sound judgement in them, release their property to them (Surah An-Nisaa Aayah 6)]. Islam did not order that the wealth of the orphans is given to them until the guardian is knows (with certainty) regarding their rationality and their knowledge of the matters related to earning and trade.

Commentary: This is an instruction to the guardian regarding the wealth of an orphan, that the wealth is not left in the hands of the orphan until he (or she) observes and knows the orphan’s mental discernment and good judgement in affairs of wealth. But if it becomes clear to the guardian that the orphan is ignorant regarding buying, selling and how to deal with others, then the wealth would be lost immediately when left under the orphan’s jurisdiction. Our RE and PSHE Teacher Says That We Should Love and Not Hate!

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Our Muslim RE or PSHE Teacher Says That We Should Love and Not Hate!

Beware of Ignorant Muslim RE and PSHE Teachers, as Well as Militant Liberalists and Secularists Hiding Behind Education to Corrupt The Walaa Wal Baraa of Muslim Children

What Is Al-Walaa Wal-Baraa? Al Walaa means loyalty to everything that is beloved to Allaah and His Messenger and Al-Baraa means to shun everything that is hated by Allaah and His Messenger. Allaah [The Exalted] said:

And (remember) when Ibrahim (Abraham) said to his father and his people: “Verily, I am innocent of what you worship, except Him (i.e. I worship none but Allah Alone) Who did create me, and verily, He will guide me.” And he made it [i.e. La ilaha ill-Allah (none has the right to be worshipped but Allah Alone)] a Word lasting among his offspring (True Monotheism), that they may turn back (i.e. to repent to Allah or receive admonition). [Surah Az-Zukhruf 26-28]

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

قَالَ أَفَرَءَيۡتُم مَّا كُنتُمۡ تَعۡبُدُونَ
أَنتُمۡ وَءَابَآؤُڪُمُ ٱلۡأَقۡدَمُونَ
فَإِنَّہُمۡ عَدُوٌّ۬ لِّىٓ إِلَّا رَبَّ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِينَ

He [Ibraaheem] said: “Do you observe that which you have been worshipping – you and your ancient fathers? Verily! They are enemies to me, save the Lord of the ‘Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists)”. [Surah Ash-Shu’araa. 75-77]

Allaah [The Exalted] stated about Prophet Hud [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him]:

They said: “O Hud! No evidence have you brought us, and we shall not leave our gods for your (mere) saying! And we are not believers in you. “All that we say is that some of our gods (false deities) have seized you with evil (madness).” He said: “I call Allah to witness and bear you witness that I am free from that which you ascribe as partners in worship, with Him (Allah). So plot against me, all of you, and give me no respite. “I put my trust in Allah, my Lord and your Lord! There is not a moving (living) creature but He has grasp of its forelock. Verily, my Lord is on the Straight Path (the truth). “So if you turn away, still I have conveyed the Message with which I was sent to you. My Lord will make another people succeed you, and you will not harm Him in the least. Surely, my Lord is Guardian over all things.” [Surah Hud. 53-57]

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

Say (O Muhammad ): “What thing is the most great in witness?” Say: “Allah (the Most Great!) is Witness between me and you; this Qur’an has been revealed to me that I may therewith warn you and whomsoever it may reach. Can you verily bear witness that besides Allah there are other aliha (gods)?” Say “I bear no (such) witness!” Say: “But in truth He (Allah) is the only one Ilah (God). And truly I am innocent of what you join in worship with Him.” [Surah Al-An’aam. Aayah 19]

Allaah [The Most High] said:

Say (O Muhammad)! “O Al-Kafirun (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, in His Angels, in His Books, in His Messengers, in the Day of Resurrection, and in Al-Qadar, etc.)! I worship not that which you worship, Nor will you worship that which I worship. And I shall not worship that which you are worshipping. Nor will you worship that which I worship. To you be your religion, and to me my religion (Islamic Monotheism)”. [Surah Al-Kaafiroon]
Abu Umamah [may Allaah be pleased with him] said: Allaah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said, “Whoever loves for the sake of Allah, hates for the sake of Allah, gives for the sake of Allah, and withholds for the sake of Allah has perfected the faith”. [Saheeh Sunan Abee Daawud 4681]

The People Relation to This Subject Matter Are Three Categories

The first category are those given specific love and allegiance, such as the Prophets, the righteous, the matryes etc. The second category of people are those who are not given any allegiance, such as an idolator, a hypocrite, a heretic, an apostate etc. The third category are those given allegiance in one way but not the other, such as the open sinners – those whose sins have not removed them from the fold of Islam. They are shown loyalty due to their Islam and shunned due to their sins.

Alliance With Disbelievers is Two Types:

The alliance that removes a person from the fold of islam and thus one becomes a disbeliever after being a Muslim. This is is called At-Tawallee. Allaah [The Exalted] said:

O you who believe! Take not the Jews and the Christians as Auliya’ (friends, protectors, helpers, etc.), they are but Auliya’ to one another. And if any amongst you takes them as Auliya’, then surely he is one of them. Verily, Allah guides not those people who are the Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers and unjust). [Surah Al-Maa’idah. Aayah 51]

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

You (O Muhammad ) will not find any people who believe in Allah and the Last Day, making friendship with those who oppose Allah and His Messenger (Muhammad ), even though they were their fathers, or their sons, or their brothers, or their kindred (people). For such He has written Faith in their hearts, and strengthened them with Ruh (proofs, light and true guidance) from Himself. And We will admit them to Gardens (Paradise) under which rivers flow, to dwell therein (forever). Allah is pleased with them, and they with Him. They are the Party of Allah. Verily, it is the Party of Allah that will be the successful. [Surah Al-Mujaadilah. Aayah 22]

The precise principle regarding this loyalty and allegiance is when a person loves and supports the religion of the disbelievers and their creed. Whoever loves a disbeliever due to his religion or creed, or helps a disbeliever due to his religion or creed, then indeed he has fallen into this type of (forbidden) loyalty and allegiance, which would nullify his Islaam and by way of which his deeds are nullified. [Read article on this link by Shaikh Abu Khadeejah: https://abukhadeejah.com/having-alliance-with-the-non-muslims-is-of-two-types-misunderstanding-this-affair-leads-people-astray/ ]

The second type of loyalty is related to dealing with them in trade, visiting them and they visit you, and exchanging gifts etc. This does not remove a person from the fold of Islam; rather sometimes it is permissible, such as being kind to a disbeliever who is not at war with the Muslim state, just as Allaah [The Exalted] said:

Allah does not forbid you to deal justly and kindly with those who fought not against you on account of religion and did not drive you out of your homes. Verily, Allah loves those who deal with equity. [Surah Al-Mumtahina. Aayah 8]

And at other times, this loyalty is forbidden, such as imitating their specific traits [i.e. either their un-Islamic customs or specific clothing, appearance, behaviour related to their religion]. The Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said, “Whoever imitates a people is from them”.

Sometimes this loyalty is recommended such as being kind to a disbeliever to draw his heart to Islam and calling him to Islam, and at other times this loyalty is obligatory, such as kind treatment to non-Muslim parents. Allaah [The Exalted] said:

And We have enjoined on man (to be dutiful and good) to his parents. His mother bore him in weakness and hardship upon weakness and hardship, and his weaning is in two years give thanks to Me and to your parents, unto Me is the final destination. But if they (both) strive with you to make you join in worship with Me others that of which you have no knowledge, then obey them not, but behave with them in the world kindly, and follow the path of him who turns to Me in repentance and in obedience. Then to Me will be your return, and I shall tell you what you used to do. [Surah Luqmaan. 14-15]

A Muslim Can Help a Disbeliever Without Intending to Aid The Disbeliever’s Religion or Creed

Prophet Moosaa [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] helped the disbeliever who was from his nation against a person from the people of Firawn. Allaah [The Exalted] said:

And he entered the city at a time of unawareness of its people, and he found there two men fighting, – one of his party (his religion – from the Children of Israel), and the other of his foes. The man of his (own) party asked him for help against his foe, so Musa (Moses) struck him with his fist and killed him. He said: “This is of Shaitan‘s (Satan) doing, verily, he is a plain misleading enemy.” [Surah Al-Qasas. Aayah 15] [Al-Walaa Wal Baraa. pages 1-14. Publisher Daar Al-Istiqaamah. 1st Edition 1427AH (2006)]

A Rebuke Against Those Who Seek to Alter The Sharee’ah Terms

Al-Allaamah Saaleh Al-Fawzaan [may Allaah preserve him] says, “Indeed, Allaah created [Jinn and humankind] and gave them an innate disposition to recognize Tawheed, obey Him and worship Him alone; but they differed – some of them believed and others disbelieved. Allaah said: [هُوَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَكُمۡ فَمِنكُمۡ ڪَافِرٌ۬ وَمِنكُم مُّؤۡمِنٌ۬‌ۚ – He it is Who created you, then some of you are disbelievers and some of you are believers]. [64:2]

Allaah wishes Eemaan and well-being for them, but shaytaan and the callers to evil wish disbelief and evil for them. Allaah [The Exalted] said:

Allaah wishes to make clear (what is lawful and what is unlawful) to you, and to show you the ways of those before you, and accept your repentance, and Allaah is All-Knower, All-Wise. Allaah wishes to accept your repentance, but those who follow their lusts, wish that you (believers) should deviate tremendously away from the Right Path.’ [4:26-27]

And due to this, Allaah sent the Messengers, revealed the Books and established His Proofs; so, there are those amongst humankind who accept the truth and embrace Eemaan by choice, and there are those who reject the truth and embrace disbelief by choice. Indeed, Allaah has laid down the differences between the Muminoon and the Kaafiroon in this life and the next, and He forbade that the two groups are made equal. Allaah [Glorified be He and free is He from all imperfections] has set out recompense and judgment for each of the two groups in this life and the next. He has given a distinguished name to every group; such as [Mumin – believer], [Kaafir- disbeliever], [Barrun- upright/righteous one], [Faajir – evildoer], [Mushrik- Polytheist], [Muwahhid- Monotheist], [Faasiq- sinner], [Munaafiq- hypocrite], [Mutee’un – an obedient one] and [Aasee- a disobedient one]. And He [Glorified be He and free is He from all imperfections] forbade that equality is made between these differing names and attitudes. Allaah said:[أَمۡ حَسِبَ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱجۡتَرَحُواْ ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ أَن نَّجۡعَلَهُمۡ كَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ-Or do those who earn evil deeds think that We shall hold them equal with those who believe (in the Oneness of Allaah Islaamic Monotheism) and do righteous good deeds]. [45:2]

And Allaah said: [ أَمۡ نَجۡعَلُ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ كَٱلۡمُفۡسِدِينَ فِى ٱلۡأَرۡضِ أَمۡ نَجۡعَلُ ٱلۡمُتَّقِينَ كَٱلۡفُجَّارِ – Shall We treat those who believe (in the Oneness of Allaah Islamic Monotheism) and do righteous good deeds, as Mufsidoon (those who associate partners in worship with Allaah and commit crimes) on earth? Or shall We treat the Muttaqoon (the pious ones), as the Fujjaar (criminals, disbelievers, wicked, etc)’ [38:28]- meaning: We have not made them equal because that does not befit Allaah’s Justice.

Should we abandon the words [Kufr, Shirk, Kuffaar and Mushrikeen] found in the Qur’aan, the Sunnah and the Books of Islaamic creed? This will be a violation of the Book and the Sunnah, and an opposition to Allaah and His Messenger. By changing the real meanings of the Sharee’ah terms, we will be from those who distort the Book of their Lord and the Sunnah of their Messenger. Then what defence can be given for [such a deed]- is it to please the Kuffaar? The disbelievers will never be pleased with us until we abandon our religion. Allaah [The Exalted] said: [وَلَن تَرۡضَىٰ عَنكَ ٱلۡيَہُودُ وَلَا ٱلنَّصَـٰرَىٰ حَتَّىٰ تَتَّبِعَ مِلَّتَہُمۡ‌ۗ – Never will the Yahood nor the Nasaaraa be pleased with you [O Muhammad Peace be upon him] till you follow their religion]. [2:120]

Allaah said: [ وَدُّواْ لَوۡ تَكۡفُرُونَ كَمَا كَفَرُواْ فَتَكُونُونَ سَوَآءً۬‌ۖ – They wish that you reject Faith, as they have rejected (Faith), and thus that you all become equal (like one another)'[4:89] And if the intention of those who call for the substitution of the sharee’ah terminologies is to show gentleness to the kuffaar and to have good dealings with them, then this cannot be [done] by changing such sharee’ah terminologies; rather it can only be [done] through what Allaah has legislated regarding their affair. This comprises of the following affairs:

1.To invite them to Islaam, which is the religion Allaah has ordained for all of humankind. Allaah said:

[ٱدۡعُ إِلَىٰ سَبِيلِ رَبِّكَ بِٱلۡحِكۡمَةِ وَٱلۡمَوۡعِظَةِ ٱلۡحَسَنَةِ‌ۖ وَجَـٰدِلۡهُم بِٱلَّتِى هِىَ أَحۡسَنُ‌ۚ – Invite (mankind, O Muhammad) to the Way of your Lord (i.e. Islaam) with wisdom (i.e. with the Divine Inspiration and the Qur’aan) and fair preaching, and argue with them in a way that is better. [16:125] Therefore, we invite them (to Islaam) for their rectification and happiness in this life and the next.

2.To make peace with them if they seek that. Allaah said:

[وَإِن جَنَحُواْ لِلسَّلۡمِ فَٱجۡنَحۡ لَهَا وَتَوَكَّلۡ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ‌ۚ إِنَّهُ ۥ هُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلۡعَلِيمُ – But if they incline to peace, you also incline to it, and (put your) trust in Allaah. Verily, He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower.” [8:61]

Likewise, to make peace with them if the Muslims are in need of making peace, and when there is an overriding benefit for the Muslims in making peace; just as the Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) made peace with the kuffaar at Hudaibiyyah. And by virtue of peace, diplomacy is (established) between them and the Muslims.

3.Not to be hostile towards them without due right. Allaah said:

[وَلَا يَجۡرِمَنَّڪُمۡ شَنَـَٔانُ قَوۡمٍ عَلَىٰٓ أَلَّا تَعۡدِلُواْ‌ۚ ٱعۡدِلُواْ هُوَ أَقۡرَبُ لِلتَّقۡوَىٰ‌ۖ وَٱتَّقُواْ ٱللَّهَ‌ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ خَبِيرُۢ بِمَا تَعۡمَلُونَ – And let not the enmity and hatred of others make you avoid justice. Be just: that is nearer to piety, and fear Allaah]. [5:8]

4.To behave well towards those of them who behave well towards the Muslims; those who neither kill nor drive Muslims out of their homes. Allaah said:

Allaah does not forbid you to deal justly and kindly with those who fought not against you on account of religion and did not drive you out of your homes. Verily, Allaah loves those who deal with equity. [60:8]

5: To have permissible beneficial dealings with them; in trade, exchange of beneficial information and utilization of the worldly sciences, and things that are of benefit in our lives.

6: To fulfil contacts made with them, and to honour the blood, wealth and rights of the Mu’aahideen (i.e. those non-Muslims who have a treaty with the Muslims) because it is binding upon them to (fulfil their covenants with the Muslims) and the Muslims are to (fulfil their covenants with them). Allaah said:

So long, as they are true to you, stand you true to them]

And the ones forbidden to be killed are the Muslim and the Mu’aahid [i.e. the non-Muslim who has a treaty with the Muslims]. And indeed the Prophet said about the killing of a Mu’aahid, “Whoever kills a Mu’aahid will not even smell the fragrance of paradise and its fragrance can be smelled from the distance of forty years away”. [Bukhaari: No: 3166]

And whoever kills a Mu’aahid by mistake, it is as if he has killed a Muslim by mistake. He must pay blood money as expiation. Allaah said: [وَإِن ڪَانَ مِن قَوۡمِۭ بَيۡنَڪُمۡ وَبَيۡنَهُم مِّيثَـٰقٌ۬ فَدِيَةٌ۬ مُّسَلَّمَةٌ إِلَىٰٓ أَهۡلِهِۦ وَتَحۡرِيرُ رَقَبَةٍ۬ مُّؤۡمِنَةٍ۬‌ۖ – And if he belonged to a people with whom you have a treaty of mutual alliance, compensation (blood money – Diya) must be paid to his family, and a believing slave must be freed]. [4:92]

And finally, I advise these ones [those who called for a change of the Sharee’ah terminologies] to repent to Allaah. They should not enter into an affair which they have neither mastered nor is it [something] they have specialized in, because that would be tantamount to speaking about Allaah without knowledge. Indeed, Allaah stated: [وَلَا تَقۡفُ مَا لَيۡسَ لَكَ بِهِۦ عِلۡمٌ‌ۚ – ‘And follow not (O man i.e., say not, or do not or witness not) that of which you have no knowledge].[17:36]

Allaah said:

‘Say (O Muhammad): (But) the things that my Lord has indeed forbidden are Al-Fawaahish (great evil sins, every kind of unlawful sexual intercourse) whether committed openly or secretly, sins (of all kinds), unrighteous oppression, joining partners (in worship) with Allaah for which He has given no authority, and saying things about Allaah of which you have no knowledge]. [7:33]

Allaah placed speaking about Him without knowledge in a level above shirk due to its seriousness. And if it the case that these ones are aware of the subject matter regarding specialist knowledge and that a person cannot enter into that which is not his domain, just as one does not enter into the affair of medicine because it is not his domain, then why do they enter into the affairs of the sharee’ah, rather they enter into the most serious affairs of the sharee’ah, and that is the subject matter of Aqeedah, even though it is something they are not specialised in. I do not desire anything from this (speech) except to give advice and clarification”. [An Excerpt from ‘Al-Bayaan Li-Akhtaa’i Ba’dil Kuttaab. 2/177-180. Slightly paraphrased]

Indeed, this is what the ignorant and corrupt Muslim RE and PSHE teachers are not able to clarify. Therefore, neither should the ignorant take such a teaching post  nor should one put himself (or herself) in such a situation if not allowed to give the clarification obligated by Allaah and His Messenger. As for the callers to the unity of religions, their affair has been discussed on this link: https://salaficentre.com/2021/02/20/introduction-are-there-three-monotheistic-religions-in-the-world-at-present-and-are-all-religions-valid-in-the-sight-of-allaah-unveiling-the-deception-and-ignorance-of-the-callers-to-unit/

We ask Allaah to protect us from misguidance Aameen.

Abandon Paranoia and Do Not Be Overbearing In Gatherings and Sittings By Demanding That People Must Wear Face Masks, Even Where It is Not Mandated!

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Anas Ibn Malik [may Allaah be pleased with him] said that the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said, “Make things easy (i.e. within the boundaries of halaal and haraam) and do not make things difficult. Give glad tidings and do not frighten them (i.e. the people) away”. [Saheeh Al-Bukhaari. Hadeeth Number 69]

Firstly, everyone agrees with the fact that unless exempt, everyone must obey the law and wear a mask in places where it has been mandated, even if one disagrees with the science.

Secondly, as for demanding that people must wear masks in other than places mandated by the government, then indeed you should expect that some of us people will critically question your stance with a rebuttal.

Perhaps the following statement of Imaam Al-Albaanee [may Allaah have mercy upon him] transmitted by Shaikh Abu Khadeejah [may Allaah preserve him] is enough to deal with what you harbour in your heart. Al-Imām Al-Albāni (rahimahullāh) said: “I know many doctors who do not shake hands with people fearing that there might be an infectious microbe in the hand of the person. For this reason, they do not shake hands with people–and this is a waswasah, a whispering… the whisper [is normally] restricted to some of the worshippers, but it has passed on to other than the worshippers, to the doctors and their likes…

So the meaning is that this is a whispering which destroys personal ties and human relations which are established between people. The foundation is that every person’s left-overs and interaction with them is that he is upon fiṭrah (original disposition) and upon health and wellbeing.

Thus, when it is established that so-and-so, for example, Allāh forbid, has the disease of tuberculosis and drinks from a vessel, then you can keep away from this, but you should have certain knowledge [beforehand] that he is afflicted with the disease of tuberculosis.

As for a whisper, “maybe he has it, maybe he has it”, then this is not permissible, because this is having an evil opinion about your Muslim brother and secondly, it comprises cutting off ties of brotherhood between you and your Muslim brother.

But when it is verifiably established that he is afflicted [with the disease], then you can take precautions and avoid drinking [from the same vessel] and shaking his hand. This is not from the whisperings and nor is it absence of reliance upon Allāh as is claimed by some people.” [End of quote]:

Harmonising between the Prophet’s negation of contagious diseases and his forbiddance of entering a land which has a contagious disease, mixing with afflicted people and touching them―Imām Ibn Bāz, Imām Al-Albāni and Al-Hāfidh Ibn Hajr

Harmonising between the hadīth, “There is no contagious disease” and, “Flee from the leper as you would from the lion.” ―Imām Al-Albāni and Imām Ibn Bāz

Therefore, do not be overbearing in the gatherings.

Hardships and Trials of The Dunya!

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Aasim Bin Humaid said, “I heard Mu’aadh Ibn Jabal saying, ‘Indeed, you will not see in this Dunyaa except affliction and trial, the affair will not increase except in severity and you will not see from the rulers except harshness. (see appendix a) You will not see an affair that is terrifying and causes you hardship, except that it will be lesser in severity than what will occur thereafter’. Imaam Ahmad Ibn Hanbal said [i.e. after hearing this statement], ‘O Allaah! Make us pleased (with You)! O Allaah! Make us pleased (with You)’”.

The author [Ibnul Bannaa] transmitted this narration in which Mu’aadh said, “Indeed, you will not see in this Dunyaa, except affliction and trial”. That is because this Dunyaa is a place of affliction, trial and test. Allaah [Glorified and Exalted be He] said: [وَنَبۡلُوكُم بِٱلشَّرِّ وَٱلۡخَيۡرِ فِتۡنَةً۬‌ۖ وَإِلَيۡنَا تُرۡجَعُونَ – And We shall make a trial of you with evil and with good, and to Us you will be returned]. [Surah Al-Anbiyaa. Aayah 35]

Then Mu’aadh said, “And the affair will not increase except in severity”. That is because the affair of the believers alternates between perfection and deficiency, and an era will not come to the people except that the era thereafter will be lesser in virtue.

Then Mu’aadh said, “And you will not see from the rulers except harshness”. Meaning, the way you are [i.e. righteous or sinful] will determine who will rule over you. Whenever deficiency occurs in the religious affairs of the people, this will also be the state of the one who rules over them.

Then Mu’aadh said, “And you will not see an affair that is terrifying and causes you hardship, except that it will be lesser in severity than what will occur thereafter”. Meaning, it may be that a person witnesses an affair which he considers to be terrifying and difficult, but then another era comes thereafter and he considers it more severe than the one that occurred during his youth.

Mu’aadh made these statements to notify the believer regarding the state he should be in when afflictions occur, so that he strives against his soul [i.e. in obedience to Allaah], remains steadfast upon the truth, turns truthfully to Allaah [in obedience, submission, reliance, repentance etc], pleased with Allaah, not to deviate and not to be like those who are destroyed, and that he seeks Allaah’s Protection against the trials that are apparent and that which is hidden. This is the reason why Imaam Ahmad said twice [i.e. after hearing Mu’aadh’s speech], “O Allaah! Make us pleased (with You)! O Allaah! Make us pleased (with You)”.

This shows what a Muslim should be upon during trials – that he should be pleased with Allaah in two ways: [رضىا بالله and رضا عن الله]. The meaning of Ridaa Billaah can be found in a hadeeth of Allaah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] as follows:

ذَاقَ طَعْمَ الإيمَانِ مَنْ رَضِيَ بِالله رَبّا وَ باْلإِسْلاَمِ دِيناً و بِمُحَمّدٍ رسولا

The one who pleased that Allah is his lord and Islam is his religion and Muhammad is his messenger shall taste the sweetness of Eemaan. Ridaa Billaah is related to being pleased with the Names and Attributes of Allaah.

As for Ridaa Anil laah, it can be found in the statement of Allaah: [رضي الله عنهم ورضوا عنه] and it is related to being pleased with Allaah’s reward and good recompense.

Therefore, with regards to the trials, it is obligated on a Muslim to turn to Allaah [in submission, obedience, reliance, humility, repentance etc]. Whenever the trial becomes more severe, he increases in turning to Allaah. Indeed, the Prophet [sallal-laahu-alayhi wasallam] said, “Worship during Al-Harj [i.e. during chaos, confusion, disorder, fighting, killing etc] is like emigrating to me”.

This shows that during trials a Muslim should turn to Allaah – turn to worship, remembrance of Allaah, submit and humble himself to Allaah. As for many other people, trials bussies and diverts them from remembrance of Allaah; rather many people are preoccupied with the trial and (diverted) from obedience to Allaah. How many people are preoccupied with trials and diverted from establishing the prayer at its fixed time! How many people fall into evil due to Fitan! Fitan is destructive and no one is saved from it, except the one whom Allaah saves.

And in relation to Mu’aadh’s statement, it has also been reported in Shu’ab Al-Imaan by Bayhaqi from Abee Mas’ood Al-Ansaari who said, “A time will not reach you except that the time after it will be worse than it”. So they (i.e. the people) said, “Indeed, a time has reached us in which we had things in abundance and a time in which we did not have things in abundance”. He said, “By Allaah! Indeed, I neither mean your time of abundant produce nor your time of scarcity, rather I mean the disappearance of knowledge or the scholars. Indeed, before you there was Umar, so show me a time like his?!” Perhaps it can be said (in relation to this statement of Abee Mas’ood regarding this era of ours, “Ibn Baaz was here (i.e. alive amongst us few years ago), so show us someone like him (or an era like his)?!” However, good is still present. Even though the likes of these statements are transmitted, but also the texts regarding tranquillity, the people of virtue and that good will remain should be mentioned, such as the statement of the Prophet, “There will not cease to be a group of my Ummah who will be upon the truth, neither will they be harmed by those who oppose them nor by those who betray them until the establishment of the hour (i.e. the day of judgement)”.

This proves that good will remain and the likes of these narrations [i.e. the narrations by Abee Mas’ood and Mu’aadh] are not aimed at leaving a person in a state of hopelessness and despair; rather it is aimed at making him turn to Allaah (in obedience, submission, reliance, humility, repentance etc] and to be from the people of virtue, even if they are few.
