[4] Tyranny and Some Characteristics of Tyrants

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

Those who argue against the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) of Allah, without any authority that has come to them, it is greatly hateful and disgusting to Allah and to those who believe. Thus does Allah seal up the heart of every arrogant, tyrant. [Surah Ghaafir. Aayah 35]

[ٱلَّذِينَ يُجَـٰدِلُونَ – Those who argue against Allaah’s Aayaat]- Meaning, “those who argue against Allaah’s Aayaat to nullify and belie them”, it is greatly hateful and disgusting to Allah and to those who believe. [كَذَٲلِكَ يَطۡبَعُ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ ڪُلِّ قَلۡبِ مُتَكَبِّرٍ۬ جَبَّارٍ۬- Thus does Allah seal up the heart of every arrogant, tyrant] – Meaning, “Hearts sealed and diverted from worshipping Allaah alone and (diverted from) pure Islamic Monotheism”. Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “I used to hear Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah [may Allaah have mercy upon him] saying many times that the statement ‘You alone we worship (O Allaah)’ repels Riyaa and the statement ‘You (Alone) we ask for help (for each and everything)’ repels pride”.
