In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.
Allaah [The Exalted] said:
Have you (O Muhammad ) not observed the hypocrites who say to their friends among the people of the Scripture who disbelieve: “(By Allah) If you are expelled, we (too) indeed will go out with you, and we shall never obey any one against you, and if you are attacked (in fight), we shall indeed help you.” But Allah is Witness, that they verily, are liars. Surely, if they (the Jews) are expelled, never will they (hypocrites) go out with them, and if they are attacked, they will never help them. And if they do help them, they (hypocrites) will turn their backs, so they will not be victorious. Verily, you (believers in the Oneness of Allah – Islamic Monotheism) are more awful as a fear in their (Jews of Bani An-Nadir) breasts than Allah. That is because they are a people who comprehend not (the Majesty and Power of Allah). They fight not against you even together, except in fortified townships, or from behind walls. Their enmity among themselves is very great. You would think they were united, but their hearts are divided, that is because they are a people who understand not. They are like their immediate predecessors (the Jews of Bani Qainuqa’, who suffered), they tasted the evil result of their conduct, and (in the Hereafter, there is) for them a painful torment;- (their allies deceived them) like Shaitan (Satan), when he says to man: “Disbelieve in Allah.” But when (man) disbelieves in Allah, Shaitan (Satan) says: “I am free of you, I fear Allah, the Lord of the ‘Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists)!” So the end of both will be that they will be in the Fire, abiding therein. Such is the recompense of the Zalimun (i.e. polytheists, wrong-doers, disbelievers in Allah and in His Oneness, etc.). [Surah Al-Hashr. Aayaat 11-17]
[كَمَثَلِ ٱلشَّيۡطَـٰنِ إِذۡ قَالَ لِلۡإِنسَـٰنِ ٱڪۡفُرۡ فَلَمَّا كَفَرَ قَالَ إِنِّى بَرِىٓءٌ۬ مِّنكَ إِنِّىٓ أَخَافُ ٱللَّهَ رَبَّ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِينَ – (Their allies deceived them) like Shaitan (Satan), when he says to man: “Disbelieve in Allah.” But when (man) disbelieves in Allah, Shaitan (Satan) says: “I am free of you, I fear Allah, the Lord of the ‘Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists)!” –
Meaning, the likeness of the hypocrites who deceived their brothers amongst the people of the Scripture is that of the likeness of shaytaan when he says to a human being, “Disbelieve”; so he beautifies disbelief to the person, gives it a good image and calls him to it. Then when the person is deceived by it and disbelieves, and that leads him to external punishment, the Shaytan – who took him as an ally and called him to what he called him to – does not benefit him, but rather he frees himself from him, saying:
[إِنِّى بَرِىٓءٌ۬ مِّنكَ إِنِّىٓ أَخَافُ ٱللَّهَ رَبَّ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِينَ – I am free of you, I fear Allah, the Lord of the ‘Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists)!] – Meaning, I have no power to repel punishment from you and I cannot profit you even an ant’s weight of good.
[فَكَانَ عَـٰقِبَتَہُمَآ – So the end of both] – Meaning, shaytan- the caller- and the human being – the one called – when he obeys him. [أَنَّہُمَا فِى ٱلنَّارِ خَـٰلِدَيۡنِ فِيہَاۚ – will be in the Fire, abiding therein]. This is similar to what Allaah said in another Aayah: [ إِنَّمَا يَدۡعُواْ حِزۡبَهُ ۥ لِيَكُونُواْ مِنۡ أَصۡحَـٰبِ ٱلسَّعِيرِ – He only invites his Hizb (followers) that they may become the dwellers of the blazing Fire].
[وَذَٲلِكَ جَزَٲٓؤُاْ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ – Such is the recompense of the Zalimun (i.e. polytheists, wrong-doers, disbelievers in Allah and in His Oneness, etc.)]- Meaning, those who participate in wrongdoing and disbelief, even though the severity and intensity of the punishment they receive will be different. This is the abiding path of shaytaan with all his allies, because indeed he calls and leads them – by way of deception – to that which is harmful until when they fall into the trap and destruction is inevitable, he frees himself and abandons them. Therefore, all the blame is directed at the one who obeys him, because indeed Allaah has warned against shaytaan and informed a person about his goals and objectives.
