Shaikh – [An Old Man, a Righteous Man or a Man Recognised By Scholar as One With Islamic Knowledge] [Part 1]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Shaikh – An Old Man

Allaah [The Most High] stated: [قَالَتْ يَا وَيْلَتَى أَأَلِدُ وَأَنَا عَجُوزٌ وَهَذَا بَعْلِي شَيْخًا إِنَّ هَذَا لَشَيْءٌ عَجِيبٌ – She (i.e. the wife of Ibraaheem) said (in astonishment): “Woe unto me! Shall I bear a child while I am an old woman, and here is my husband, a Shaikh (an old man?) Verily! This is a strange thing!] [Surah Hud. Aayah 72]

Allaah [The Most High] said: [قَالُوا يَا أَيُّهَا الْعَزِيزُ إِنَّ لَهُ أَبًا شَيْخًا كَبِيرًا فَخُذْ أَحَدَنَا مَكَانَهُ إِنَّا نَرَاكَ مِنَ الْمُحْسِنِينَ – They (i.e. Prophet Yusuf’s brohers) said: “O ruler of the land! Verily, he (i.e. Bin Yameen) has أَبًا شَيْخًا (an old father) (who will grieve for him); so take one of us in his place. Indeed we think that you are one of the Muhsinun (good-doers)]. [Surah Yusuf. Aayah 78]

Allaah [The Most High] said: [قَالَ مَا خَطْبُكُمَا قَالَتَا لَا نَسْقِي حَتَّى يُصْدِرَ الرِّعَاءُ وَأَبُونَا شَيْخٌ كَبِيرٌ – He (i.e. Prophet Muda) said: “What is the matter with you?” They (i.e. the two sisters) said: “We cannot water (our flocks) until the shepherds take (their flocks). And our father is a Shaikhun kabeer (a very old man)”.] [Surah Al-Qasas. Aayah 23]

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

[ هُوَ الَّذِي خَلَقَكُمْ مِنْ تُرَابٍ ثُمَّ مِنْ نُطْفَةٍ ثُمَّ مِنْ عَلَقَةٍ ثُمَّ يُخْرِجُكُمْ طِفْلًا ثُمَّ لِتَبْلُغُوا أَشُدَّكُمْ ثُمَّ لِتَكُونُوا شُيُوخًا – He, it is Who has created you (Adam) from dust, then from a Nutfah (mixed semen drops of male and female discharge (i.e. Adam’s offspring) then from a clot (a piece of coagulated blood), then brings you forth as children, then (makes you grow) to reach the age of full strength, and afterwards to be Shyookhan (old men and women)…] [Surah Ghaafir. Aayah 67]

“If he has gray hair and his old age has become manifest, then he is a Shaikh” (1)

Shaikh – a Pious Person

Abdur Rahmaan Bin Abee Haatim [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “I heard my father saying, ‘Hajjaaj Bin Firaasatah is a righteous Shaikh – one devoted to worship'”. (2)

Shaikh – A Person Recognised By Scholars as One With Knowledge

Raaghib Al-Isfahaanee [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “It is said about the one who is aged “The Shaikh”. And it may be used among us regarding someone who has a lot of knowledge, because one of the affairs related to a Shaikh is that he has a lot of experience and knowledge”. (3)

Al-Allaamah Hasan Al-Bannah [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said: All praise be to Allaah, maashaa’Allaah, they have organisation (in da’wah), they have a maktabah salafiyyah, they have a school, a kindergarten or primary school, all these things are tremendous and all praise be to Allaah they have big numbers with them. They also have with them many Mashaayikh from amongst them Shaykh Abu Khadeejah, they have knowledge, with them is knowledge, and other than him like Shaykh Abu Hakeem Bilal. All of these Maashaa’Allaah and many other people beside them – they are many people I met so I cannot recall their names – but those that are with them I find that they are upon khayr (goodness). Since they have many students of knowledge with them from their likes, so it is laazim (incumbent) that they traverse upon their way, because they have indibaat (firm discipline, groundedness), and all praise is due to Allaah, and they have cooperation and love for the sake of Allaah. They are from the best we have seen here from the different centres and (…) them upon steadfastness(..)”. (4)

In the above statement of Al-Allaamah Hasan Al-Bannah [may Allaah have mercy upon him], he referred to some Salafi teachers – in the West – as Shuyookh and that they have knowledge. Indeed, we know very well that all the Salafi teachers who are referred to as Shaikh are of different levels in knowledge- some are Senior scholars and Mujtahideen, such as the likes of Al-Allamah Rabee Bin Haadee, Al-Allaamah Saaleh Al-Fawzaan, Al-Allaamah Ubaid Bin Abdillah Al-Jaabiri and others [may Allaah preserve them]. All the other well known Salafi teachers who are referred to as Shaikh – whether they live in the West or in the Muslim lands – know the clear difference when this word Shaikh is applied to them and when applied to the above three scholars and those at their level. Likewise, Al-Allaamah Ubaid Bin Abdullah Al-Jaabiri refers to Shaikh Abdullah Al-Bukhaari [may Allaah preserve him] as Al-Allaamah, but one knows that neither Shaikh Abdullah nor anyone amongst the Salafiyyoon places Shaikh Abdullah at the same level as Shaikh Ubaid.

Likewise, when we say “Shaikh Abu Khadeejah, Shaikh Abu Hakeem, Shaikh Abu Idrees, Shaikh Abu Iyaadh and Shaikh Hasan Somali, Shaikh Abdul Ilaah, Shaikh Uways etc”, we do not intend that they are at the same level as Shaikh Abdullah Al-Bukhaari and those at his level; rather they have been referred to as Shuyookh by an experienced Senior Salafi Scholar and we know exactly what this means, which is that they have knowledge and deserve the title based on what that senior scholar (Al-Allaamah Hasan Al-Bannah) witnessed in person about them. However, it must be understood that neither do these elder brothers demand that they should be given the title Shaikh nor that whoever does not call them Shaikh is disrespectful; rather they were called Shaikh by Al-Allaamah Hasan al-Bannah who also mentioned that they have knowledge. Bear in mind that none forces you to call our elders “Shuyookh” nor is there any suspicion on anyone who refrains from doing so, rather refer to any of them as “Ustaadh” if you wish; but do not object when we call them Shaikh because we have a precedence and we know exactly what this implies. They are people well known for referring back to the Senior Scholars of the Ummah and transmit their works on various topics, clarify the sound Islamic methodology and refute all those who oppose the sound Islamic methodology of the Salafus Saaleh (The Pious Predecessors). This is the context in which Shaikh Hasan Al-Bannah referred to them as Mashaayikh. They are more aware of their level than us and they are not pretenders, rather their efforts in the path of Dawah, teaching and Tarbiyah in the West – together with constant consultation with the Senior Scholars of the Ummah – is well known. May Allaah increase them in knowledge, piety and sincerity Aameen.

Approach Rasmus Paludan’s Affair – [The Far Right (Danish/Swedish) Political Provocateur] – With Sound Proofs and Not Violence

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

[ وَكَذَٲلِكَ جَعَلۡنَا فِى كُلِّ قَرۡيَةٍ أَڪَـٰبِرَ مُجۡرِمِيهَا لِيَمۡڪُرُواْ فِيهَا‌ۖ وَمَا يَمۡڪُرُونَ إِلَّا بِأَنفُسِہِمۡ وَمَا يَشۡعُرُونَ – And thus We have set up in every town the greatest of its criminals to plot therein. But they plot not except against their ownselves, and they perceive (it) not]. [Soorah Al-An’aam: Ayah 123]

[وَكَذَٲلِكَ جَعَلۡنَا فِى كُلِّ قَرۡيَةٍ أَڪَـٰبِرَ مُجۡرِمِيهَا – And thus We have set up in every town the greatest of its criminals] – Meaning: Those figureheads whose crimes were great and whose transgressions were severe. [لِيَمۡڪُرُواْ فِيهَا‌ۖ -to plot therein]- Meaning: Through deception, calling to the path of shaytaan and waging war – through speech and deeds- against the Messengers and their followers. However, their plots and machinations only backfired on them. That is because they plotted and Allah too was planning, and Allah is the Best of the planners.

Likewise, Allaah set up great ones amongst the leaders of guidance and the most virtuous of them, who opposed those criminals, refuted their statements and strove against them in the path of Allaah. They followed the paths leading to the path (of Allaah) and Allaah aided them. Allaah gave them an acute discernment and kept them steadfast. So the days of victory and defeat alternated between them and their enemies, until the affair came to its final end-victory and triumph (for the believers) and the good final end is for the Muttaqoon (i.e. the pious and righteous persons who fear Allah much (abstain from all kinds of sins and evil deeds which He has forbidden) and love Allah much (perform all kinds of good deeds which He has ordained)]. (2)

Rasmus Paludan’s behaviour is something well known of the enemies of Allaah and His Messengers, therefore what is incumbent upon the believers is to refute his statements just as Imaam As-Sadi stated, “Likewise Allaah set up great ones amongst the leaders of guidance and the most virtuous of them, who opposed those criminals, refuted their statements and strove against them in the path of Allaah. They followed the paths leading to the path (of Allaah) and Allaah aided them. Allaah gave them an acute discernment and kept them steadfast. So the days of victory and defeat alternated between them and their enemies, until the affair came to its final end-victory and triumph (for the believers) and the good final end is for the Muttaqoon (i.e. the pious and righteous persons who fear Allah much (abstain from all kinds of sins and evil deeds which He has forbidden) and love Allah much (perform all kinds of good deeds which He has ordained)]”.

Allaah [The Exalted] said: [وَجَاهِدْهُم بِهِ جِهَادًا كَبِيرًا – And make Jihad against them (by preaching) with the utmost endeavour, with it (i.e. with the Quran).” [Surah Furqan. Aayah 52]

Shaikh Abu Khadeejah [may Allaah protect him] quotes Imaam Asd-Sadi [may Allaah have mercy upon him] as follows: “Allāh addressed the Messenger (صلى الله عليه و سلم) with this verse and it was revealed to him in Makkah. And make Jihad against them with it, meaning the Jihad of the Qur’an and the Jihad of the Qur’an at that time was the establishment of Tawḥīd (Islamic Monotheism) and īmān (faith) and the eradication of shirk (the worship of others besides Allāh [سبحانه و تعالى]. Why? Because when that verse was revealed there was no hadd punishment upon the thieves, there was no stoning of the adulteress, there was no obligation of the Hijab. So which Jihad was he commanded to make? It was the Jihad of al-tawḥīd, to abolish shirk and to call the people to the worship of Allāh (سبحانه و تعالى) alone and then when that īmān (faith) and tawḥīd was established in their hearts, Allāh (سبحانه و تعالى) established for the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه و سلم) the Islamic state in Al-Medina, after which period all the other regulations of Al-Islam came. This included fasting in the month of Ramadan, Zakat, the performance of Hajj, the wearing of the Hijab, the prescribed punishments against the criminals, and Jihad upon the battlefields. So which Jihad was the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) commanded with in Makkah? The Jihad that Allāh (سبحانه و تعالى) calls: “the great Jihad”. That was the Jihad of the Qur’an, the Jihad of Tawḥīd. This is why the scholars say, that the Jihad against ahlul al-bid’ah (the people of innovation) is more virtuous than Jihad against the open enemy”. (2)

Therefore, this is the sound approach- manifest the beauty of Islam, clarify for the one who enquires, refute the slanderers, behave well towards non-Muslims and refrain from criminality. Neither are protests allowed in Islam nor is Rasmus Paludan worthy of it, rather the Qur’an, the Sunnah and understanding of the companions must be followed in all affairs. Read here:

Reminder By One of Our Beloved Brothers (Abu Maryam) Regarding Being Thankful

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.
Our beloved brother Abu Maryam (Tariq Al-Kashmeeri)- the one known for his love of Salafiyyah and its adherents- reminded us as follows…”The year is 2002…By the Grace of Allāh the Salafī Masjid in Birmingham opens its doors for the first time!  After years of struggle, feeling constrained, seeing the word “Salafī” tarnished and frowned upon, not having anything but a Bookstore and Islamic Centre [this centre being used for a bookstore, lessons, teaching young children], Allāh blessed us with a Masjid at a time when the Salafīs didn’t have the Masājid and Marākiz they have today. We were overjoyed, overwhelmed and grateful for the Blessing of Allāh upon us!!
The Masjid was instantly a base for the dissemination of knowledge. Brothers and sisters gathered, the smell of freshly painted walls, new carpet and perfume in the air! Abū Talhah (رحمه الله) teaching, Abū Hakeem (حفظه الله) returned from Al-Madīnah, Abū Khadeejah (حفظه الله) teaching; Abū Idrees would soon return. A place to now invite our elders Abū Iyaad, Abdulilah, Uways (حفظهم الله). Abū Hakeem opened this book and taught the Salafīs how to run their first Masjid in our city!
The point of mentioning this is that, as our scholars mentioned many times, giving thanks to Allāh is a necessity due to His Mercy and abundance of blessings upon the Salafī youth here. No doubt, Allāh has showered us with blessings upon blessings since that time. We’ve had Masājid and Marākiz open, up and down the country and our brothers and sisters in those communities have felt the same joy we felt.
As Allāh ﷻ said:  [‎وَإِذۡ تَأَذَّنَ رَبُّكُمۡ لَىِٕن شَكَرۡتُمۡ لَأَزِیدَنَّكُمۡۖ – And (remember) when your Lord proclaimed: “If you give thanks (by accepting Faith and worshipping none but Allah), I will give you more (of My Blessings)…] [Surah Ibraaheem. Aayah 7]
Alhamdulillah, how times have changed! As Abū Khadeejah mentioned the other day in his speech after Jumu’ah, “Although they (Ahlul-Bid’ah) may hate it, the Salafīs are front and centre now!” Blessings upon blessings! We can’t thank Allāh enough for these affairs and must *keep striving to aid one another for the Sake of Allāh. Heartwarming to see new projects near completion and commutes getting stronger, may Allāh continue to bless our communities and keep us united upon the Sunnah. [end of quote]
May Allaah preserve our beloved brother Abu Maryam, preserve all the Maraakiz and teachers Aameen.

“Shall I Show You a Woman of Paradise?” [Part 2]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Ataa Bin Abee Rabah [may Allaah have mercy upon him] narrated: Ibn Abbaas [may Allaah be pleased with him and his father] said to me, “Shall I show you a woman of the people of Paradise?” I said, “Yes.” He said, “This black lady came to the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] and said, ‘I get attacks of epilepsy and my body becomes uncovered; please invoke Allah for me.’ The Prophet said (to her), ‘If you wish, be patient and you will have Paradise; and if you wish, I will invoke Allah to cure you.’ She said, ‘I will remain patient,’ and added, ‘but I become uncovered, so please invoke Allah for me that I may not become uncovered.’ So he invoked Allah for her.” [Saheeh Al-Bukhaari 5652 & Saheeh Muslim 2576]

“Shall I Show You a Woman of Paradise?” [Part 1]

Part 2: This woman, who is from the people of Paradise, was excused because of her epilepsy, and she detested that uncovering; but as for what occurs from many women with regards to revealing, uncovering and displaying [body parts that should not be seen by non mahrams (a)], this is another type of ailment and they are not excused, because it is an ailment of vain desires due to weak faith, weak religious practice and lack of modesty due to being stricken with vain desires and going after forbidden pleasures, and thus one neither cares nor worries whether what (he or she) does pleases or angers Allaah. This type of ailment has become great in this time due to the many temptations, various types of desires and motives in people’s lives. Imam Ibnul Qayyim [may Allaah have mercy upon him] – in his great book, Zaadul Ma’aad – spoke about this type of ailment and the condition of people with it, what befell many people as a result of severe temptation, the turmoil that ravaged faith and certainty, shook morals and modesty. He was speaking about the condition of people in his time, so what would he have said if he witnessed the condition of the people in a later era due to the numerous temptations? He stated, “The devils mostly overcome people due to their little adherence to the religion, the decline of the reality of Dhikr (remembrance of Allaah) in their hearts and on their tongues, and (the absence of ultilising) the Prophetic supplications through which one seeks fortification and Allaah’s protection, so a malicious shaytaan approaches a man who is not armed (with adherence to the religion and supplications) and maybe he was naked at the time and got affected. If Allaah was to reveal the true state of that which is hidden, you will find that the majority of human souls have been afflicted with these malicious devils – in the captivity and grip of these devils, directed by them wherever they wish, and they are neither able to stop nor oppose them. The treatment of this ailment is (attained) by attaching a sound mind to belief in what the Messengers brought – giving consideration to paradise and hell as true realities and as the focus of one’s heart, calling to mind the affair of the people of this worldly life, the arrival of punishments and afflictions on them and its occurrence near their homes as raindrops, which is a type of seizure from which one cannot recover. Severe indeed is this type of ailment (i.e. sinful behaviour), but when the affliction became so widespread to the extent that one does not see except another person afflicted with this ailment, one is neither surprised nor shows disapproval; rather, it became – for a large number of people who are afflicted with this ailment – strange to disapprove of it. If Allaah wishes good for someone, He grants such a person insight into the true reality of this ailment, so the person looks at the sick people around him or (her) in their different states of illness – among them one who is in a permanent state of madness (delusion, irrationality due to sinning), and among them is one who sometimes recovers for a short period and then returns to his state of madness; and there is one who recovers once, but return to that state of madness again- performs the deeds of the people who are sensible and are (not trapped in sinning) when he recovers, but then the ailment (i.e. sinful behaviour) returns to him and he strays”. (1)

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [may Allaah have mercy upon him] also stated, “Disobedience is the cause of being in shaytaan’s captivity and a prisoner of lowly desires. A disobedient person is always in the captivity of his devil, the prison of his lusts and leadership of his desires. He is a captive and a shackled prisoner. There is neither a captive whose state of affairs is more evil than that of a captive whose captor is his worst enemy, nor is there a prison more restricted than the prison of desires, and shackles that are more restrictive than the shackles of lust; so how can a heart that is a captive and a shackled prisoner follow the path to Allaah and the home of the afterlife? How can he follow a single path when the heart is shackled and stricken with harm from every angle as a result of the [severity] of its shackles? The likeness of the heart is that of a bird; it distances from harm whenever it flies high and surrounded by harm whenever it lands. And just as an unprotected sheep in the midst of wolves is quickly destroyed, likewise if there is no protection from Allaah for the person, it is inevitable that his wolf (shaytaan) will prey on him. He is protected by Allaah through Taqwah (fear of Allaah) – a shield and shelter from Allaah between the person and his wolf, just as it is a shield against punishment in this life and the afterlife. Whenever the sheep is closer to its shepherd, it is safer from the wolf and whenever it is distanced from the shepherd, it comes closer to being destroyed. So the sheep is more protected when it is closer to the shepherd, for the wolf only takes away the [sheep, cattle] that are distanced and far away from the shepherd. The basis of this affair is that whenever the heart is distanced from Allaah, then harm upon it is quicker, and whenever it is comes closer to Allaah, it is distanced from harm. Being distanced from Allaah is of various levels and some are more severe than others. Being distanced from [Allaah] through disobedience is greater than being distanced from [Allaah] through thoughtlessness; being distanced from [Allaah] through bidah is greater than being distanced from [Allaah] through disobedience, and being distanced from [Allaah] through hypocrisy and shirk is greater than all of that. Consequences – in This Life and The Next – of Hindering People From Allaah’s Path and Some Characteristics of Its Perpetrators

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

Alif-Laam-Raa. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Qur’an, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. (This is) a Book which We have revealed unto you (O Muhammad) in order that you might lead mankind out of darkness by their Lord’s Leave to the Path of the All-Mighty, the Owner of all Praise. Allah to Whom belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth! And woe unto the disbelievers from a severe torment. Those who prefer the life of this world instead of the Hereafter, and hinder (men) from the Path of Allah (i.e. Islam) and seek crookedness therein – They are far astray. [Surah Ibraaheem. Aayaat 1-3]

(This is) a Book which We have revealed unto you (O Muhammad) in order that you might lead mankind out of darkness by their Lord’s Leave”.
Imaam Shanqeetee [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said: Allaah (The Most High) clarified in this noble ayah that He sent down this great Book unto His Prophet in order that he may remove mankind from the darkness of disbelief and misguidance and (enter them) into the light of Imaan and guidance. The meaning of this ayah has been made clear in other Aayaat, such as the saying of Allaah:

[هُوَ ٱلَّذِى يُنَزِّلُ عَلَىٰ عَبۡدِهِۦۤ ءَايَـٰتِۭ بَيِّنَـٰتٍ۬ لِّيُخۡرِجَكُم مِّنَ ٱلظُّلُمَـٰتِ إِلَى ٱلنُّورِ‌ۚ – It is He Who sends down manifest Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) to His slave (Muhammad) that He may bring you out from darkness into light]. [Soorah Hadeed. Ayah: 9]

Indeed, Allaah (The Most High) clarified in this ayah that none can be removed from darkness and (entered) into light except by His Leave, as He stated: [بِإِذۡنِ رَبِّهِم – By their Lord’s Leave]. This has been made clear in other Aayaat, such as the saying of Allaah: [وَمَآ أَرۡسَلۡنَا مِن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا لِيُطَاعَ بِإِذۡنِ ٱللَّهِ‌ۚ – We sent no Messenger, but to be obeyed by Allah’s Leave]. [Nisaa. Ayah 64] Also the saying of Allaah: [وَمَا كَانَ لِنَفۡسٍ أَن تُؤۡمِنَ إِلَّا بِإِذۡنِ ٱللَّهِ‌ۚ –It is not for any person to believe, except by the Leave of Allaah] [Yoonus. Ayah 100] [Tafseerul Qur’aan Bil-Qur’aan Min Adwaa Al-Bayaan]

Imaam Sadi [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said: Allaah (The Most High) informed (us) that He revealed His Book unto His Messenger Muhammad for the benefit of the creation (i.e. Mankind and Jinn); so that they might be removed from the darkness of ignorance, disbelief, evil manners and all types of disobedience, (and entered into) the light of knowledge, Imaan and good manners. And concerning the statement of Allaah: [بِإِذۡنِ رَبِّهِم – By their Lord’s Leave]-Meaning, they cannot reach the goal of that which is pleasing to Allaah, except by Allaah’s Will and Help. So in this there is an exhortation for the slaves to seek help from their Lord. Then Allaah explained (the meaning of the) light to which this Book guides to, saying: [إِلَىٰ صِرَٲطِ ٱلۡعَزِيزِ ٱلۡحَمِيد – To the Path of the All-Mighty, the Owner of all Praise]; that is the path that leads to (obedience to Allaah and His Messenger, success in this life and the next etc) and the abode of honour (i.e. paradise), which (is achieved by way) of having knowledge of the truth and acting upon it. And with regards to the statement: [ٱلۡعَزِيزِ ٱلۡحَمِيدِ – The All-Mighty, the Owner of all Praise] after the mention of the path leading to Him, in this is an indication that the one who follows the straight path is given might by Allaah and he is a strong person, even if there are no helpers for him except Allaah. He is praiseworthy in his affairs and will achieve a good end. This also indicates that Allaah’s path is the greatest proof that He (The Most High) possesses Perfect Attributes and Lofty Descriptions, and that what He has appointed for His slaves is mighty authority. He is praised in His Statements, Actions and Rulings (i.e. because He is the Bestower of all things and He is free from all imperfections). He alone is described with all the perfect Names and Attributes; He is the only one worthy of worship through those acts of worship (He has prescribed), which are the dignified signposts of the straight path. And just as He is the owner of the kingdom of the heavens and the earth-The Creator, The Sustainer, The Controller of the affairs of the universe- likewise, He has religious rulings for His slaves because He is their Owner (i.e. the Owner of mankind and jinn), and it does not befit His (Wisdom, Majesty, Glory etc) that He leaves them Suda [neglected without being punished or rewarded for the obligatory duties enjoined by Him]

After Allaah clarified the evidences and proofs, He then made a promise to the one who does not pay attention to (such proofs and evidences), saying: [وَوَيۡلٌ۬ لِّلۡكَـٰفِرِينَ مِنۡ عَذَابٍ۬ شَدِيد – And woe unto the disbelievers from a severe torment]. Then Allaah described them, saying: [ٱلَّذِينَ يَسۡتَحِبُّونَ ٱلۡحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنۡيَا عَلَى ٱلۡأَخِرَةِ – Those who prefer the life of this world instead of the Hereafter]. They make it a duty and are satisfied with it, whilst being heedless of the afterlife. [وَيَصُدُّونَ – And they hinder] mankind [ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ– From the Path of Allaah] which Allaah has appointed for His slaves, clarified in His Books and conveyed through the speech of His Messengers. So, these people have indeed turned away from their Protector through enmity and waging war against Him. [وَيَبۡغُونَہَا عِوَجًا‌ۚ – And seek crookedness therein (i.e. in Allaah’s Religion)]; that is: They are eager to ridicule and make it look repugnant, in order to make people flee from it; however Allaah will not allow that to happen, rather He made His religion uppermost even though the disbelievers may hate it. [Tayseer Al-Kareem Ar-Rahmaan Fee Tafseer Kalaam Al-Mannaan]

They desire that Allaah’s path should become crooked, swaying towards (corruption) and deviated from the right course, even though it is self-evident and neither can it be harmed by the one who opposes it nor by the one who forsakes it. [Qurratul Ainayn Alaa Tafseer Al-Jalaalayn] So with this desire of theirs, they are in ignorance and straying far away from the truth and rectification. [Al-Misbaah Al-Muneer Fee Tahdheeb Tafseer Ibn Katheer]

[أُوْلَـٰٓٮِٕكَ فِى ضَلَـٰلِۭ بَعِيدٍ – They are far astray] because they are misguided and misguiding others. They oppose Allaah and His Messenger, and wage war against them; so what type of misguidance can be farther than this? As for the people of Imaan, they are the opposite of these ones–they believe in Allaah and His Aayaat; they prefer the afterlife over the worldly life and call to the path of Allaah. They perfect their actions to the best of their ability and manifest their steadfastness. [Al-Itisaam 3/434]

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا نَصِيبًا مِنَ الْكِتَابِ يَشْتَرُونَ الضَّلَالَةَ وَيُرِيدُونَ أَنْ تَضِلُّوا السَّبِيلَ * وَاللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِأَعْدَائِكُمْ وَكَفَى بِاللَّهِ وَلِيًّا وَكَفَى بِاللَّهِ نَصِيرًا

Have you not seen those who were given a portion of the book (the Jews), purchasing the wrong path, and wish that you should go astray from the Right Path? Allah has full knowledge of your enemies, and Allah is Sufficient as a Wali (Protector), and Allah is Sufficient as a Helper. [Surah An-Nisaa. Aayaat 44-45]

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

قُلْ يَا أَهْلَ الْكِتَابِ لِمَ تَصُدُّونَ عَنْ سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ مَنْ آمَنَ تَبْغُونَهَا عِوَجًا وَأَنْتُمْ شُهَدَاءُ وَمَا اللَّهُ بِغَافِلٍ عَمَّا تَعْمَلُونَ

Say: “O people of the Scripture! Why do you stop those who have believed, from the Path of Allah, seeking to make it seem crooked, while you (yourselves) are witnesses [to Muhammad as a Messenger of Allah and Islam (Allah’s Religion, i.e. to worship none but Him Alone)]? And Allah is not unaware of what you do.” [Surah Aal Imran. Aayah 99]

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

Had not the Grace of Allah and His Mercy been upon you (O Muhammad), a party of them would certainly have made a decision to mislead you, but (in fact) they mislead none except their own selves, and no harm can they do to you in the least. Allah has sent down to you the Book (The Quran), and Al-Hikmah (Islamic laws, knowledge of legal and illegal things i.e. the Prophet’s Sunnah – legal ways), and taught you that which you knew not. And Ever Great is the Grace of Allah unto you (O Muhammad). [Surah An-Nisaa. Aayah 113]

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

For the wrong-doing of the Jews, We made unlawful to them certain good foods which has been lawful to them, and for their hindering many from Allah’s Way; And their taking of Riba (usury) though they were forbidden from taking it and their devouring of men’s substance wrongfully (bribery, etc.). And We have prepared for the disbelievers among them a painful torment. But those among them who are well-grounded in knowledge, and the believers, believe in what has been sent down to you (Muhammad) and what was sent down before you, and those who perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), and give Zakat and believe in Allah and in the Last Day, it is they to whom We shall give a great reward. [Surah An-Nisaa. Aayaat 160-162]

Allaah [The Exalted] said: [إِنَّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا وَصَدُّوا عَنْ سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ قَدْ ضَلُّوا ضَلَالًا بَعِيدًا – Verily, those who disbelieve (by concealing the truth about Prophet Muhammad and his message of true Islamic Monotheism written with them in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and prevent (mankind) from the Path of Allah (Islamic Monotheism), they have certainly strayed far away]. [Surah An-Nisaa. Aayah 167]

Allaah [The Exalted] said:\

And the dwellers of Paradise will call out to the dwellers of the Fire (saying): “We have indeed found true what our Lord had promised us; have you also found true, what your Lord promised (warnings, etc.)?” They shall say: “Yes.” Then a crier will proclaim between them: “The Curse of Allah is on the Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers, etc.),” those who hindered (men) from the Path of Allah, and would seek to make it crooked, and they were disbelievers in the Hereafter”. [Surah Al-A’raaf. Aayaat 44-45]

And to (the people of) Madyan (Midian), (We sent) their brother Shu’aib. He said: “O my people! Worship Allah! You have no other Ilah (God) but Him. [La ilaha ill-Allah (none has the right to be worshipped but Allah)].” Verily, a clear proof (sign) from your Lord has come unto you; so give full measure and full weight and wrong not men in their things, and do not mischief on the earth after it has been set in order, that will be better for you, if you are believers. “And sit not on every road, threatening, and hindering from the Path of Allah those who believe in Him. and seeking to make it crooked. And remember when you were but few, and He multiplied you. And see what was the end of the Mufsidun (mischief-makers, corrupts, liars). And if there is a party of you who believes in that with which I have been sent and a party who do not believe, so be patient until Allah judges between us, and He is the Best of judges.” The chiefs of those who were arrogant among his people said: “We shall certainly drive you out, O Shu’aib, and those who have believed with you from our town, or else you (all) shall return to our religion.” He said: “Even though we hate it! “We should have invented a lie against Allah if we returned to your religion, after Allah has rescued us from it. And it is not for us to return to it unless Allah, our Lord, should will. Our Lord comprehends all things in His Knowledge. In Allah (Alone) we put our trust. Our Lord! Judge between us and our people in truth, for You are the Best of those who give judgment.” The chiefs of those who disbelieved among his people said (to their people): “If you follow Shu’aib, be sure then you will be the losers!” So the earthquake seized them and they lay (dead), prostrate in their homes. Those who belied Shu’aib, became as if they had never dwelt there (in their homes). Those who belied Shu’aib, they were the losers. Then he (Shu’aib) turned from them and said: “O my people! I have indeed conveyed my Lord’s Messages unto you and I have given you good advice. Then how can I sorrow for the disbelieving people’s (destruction).” [Surah Al-A’raaf. Aayaat 85-93]

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

And why should not Allah punish them (i.e. the polytheists) while they stop (men) from Al-Masjid-al-Haram, and they are not its guardians? None can be its guardian except Al-Muttaqun (the pious ), but most of them know not. Their Salat (prayer) at the House (of Allah, i.e. the Ka’bah at Makkah) was nothing but whistling and clapping of hands. Therefore taste the punishment because you used to disbelieve. Verily, those who disbelieve spend their wealth to hinder (men) from the Path of Allah, and so will they continue to spend it; but in the end it will become an anguish for them. Then they will be overcomed. And those who disbelieve will be gathered unto Hell. [Surah Al-Anfaal. Aayaat 34-36]

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

And be not like those who come out of their homes boastfully and to be seen of men, and hinder (men) from the Path of Allah. and Allah is Muhitun (encircling and thoroughly comprehending) all that they do. And (remember) when Shaitan (Satan) made their (evil) deeds seem fair to them and said, “No one of mankind can overcome you this Day (of the battle of Badr) and verily, I am your neighbour (for each and every help).” But when the two forces came in sight of each other, he ran away and said “Verily, I have nothing to do with you. Verily! I see what you see not. Verily! I fear Allah for Allah is Severe in punishment.” [Surah Al-Anfaal. Aayaat 47-48]

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

How can there be for the polytheists a treaty in the sight of Allah and with His Messenger, except for those with whom you made a treaty at al-Masjid al-Haram? So as long as they are upright toward you, be upright toward them. Indeed, Allah loves the righteous [who fear Him]. How [can there be a treaty] while, if they gain dominance over you, they do not observe concerning you any pact of kinship or covenant of protection? They satisfy you with their mouths, but their hearts refuse [compliance], and most of them are defiantly disobedient. They have purchased with the Signs of Allah a little gain, and they hindered men from His Way; evil indeed is that which they used to do. [Surah At-Tawbah. Aayaat 7-9]

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

O you who believe! Verily, there are many of the (Jewish) rabbis and the (Christian) monks who devour the wealth of mankind in falsehood, and hinder (them) from the Way of Allah (i.e. Allah’s Religion of Islamic Monotheism). And those who hoard up gold and silver [Al-Kanz: the money, the Zakat of which has not been paid], and spend it not in the Way of Allah, -announce unto them a painful torment. [Surah At-Tawbah. Aayah 34]

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

And who does more wrong than he who invents a lie against Allah. Such will be brought before their Lord, and the witnesses will say, “These are the ones who lied against their Lord!” No doubt! the curse of Allah is on the Zalimun (polytheists, wrong-doers, oppressors, etc.)- those who hinder (others) from the Path of Allah (Islamic Monotheism), and seek a crookedness therein, while they are disbelievers in the Hereafter. [Surah Hud. Aayaat 18-19]

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

Is then He (Allah) Who takes charge (guards, maintains, provides, etc.) of every person and knows all that he has earned (like any other deities who know nothing)? Yet they ascribe partners to Allah. Say: “Name them! Is it that you will inform Him of something He knows not in the earth or is it (just) a show of false words.” Nay! To those who disbelieve, their plotting is made fairseeming, and they have been hindered from the Right Path, and whom Allah sends astray, for him, there is no guide. For them is a torment in the life of this world, and certainly, harder is the torment of the Hereafter. And they have no protector against Allah. [Surah Ar-Rad. Aayaat 33-34]

Allaah [The Exalted] said: [الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا وَصَدُّوا عَنْ سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ زِدْنَاهُمْ عَذَابًا فَوْقَ الْعَذَابِ بِمَا كَانُوا يُفْسِدُونَ – Those who disbelieved and hinder (men) from the Path of Allah, for them We will add torment over the torment; because they used to spread corruption (by disobeying Allah themselves, as well as ordering others (mankind) to do so]. [Surah An-Nahl. Aayah 88]

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

Verily! Those who disbelieve and hinder (men) from the Path of Allah, and from Al-Masjid-al-Haram (at Makkah) which We have made (open) to (all) men, the dweller in it and the visitor from the country are equal there [as regards its sanctity and pilgrimage (Hajj and ‘Umrah)]. And whoever inclines to evil actions therein or to do wrong (i.e. practise polytheism and leave Islamic Monotheism), him We shall cause to taste a painful torment. [Surah Al-Hajj. Aayah 25]

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

وَمِنَ النَّاسِ مَنْ يَشْتَرِي لَهْوَ الْحَدِيثِ لِيُضِلَّ عَنْ سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍ وَيَتَّخِذَهَا هُزُوًا أُولَئِكَ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ مُهِينٌ

And of mankind is he who purchases idle talks (i.e. music, singing, etc.) to mislead (men) from the Path of Allah without knowledge, and takes it (the Path of Allah, the Verses of the Quran) by way of mockery. For such there will be a humiliating torment (in the Hell-fire). [Surah Luqman. Aayah 6]

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

And Pharaoh said, “O Haman, construct for me a tower that I might reach the ways – the ways of the heavens, and I may look upon the Ilah (God) of Musa (Moses) but verily, I think him to be a liar.” Thus it was made fair-seeming, in Fir’aun’s (Pharaoh) eyes, the evil of his deeds, and he was hindered from the (Right) Path, and the plot of Fir’aun (Pharaoh) led to nothing but loss and destruction (for him). [Surah Ghaafir. Aayaat 36-37]

And whosoever turns away (blinds himself) from the remembrance of the Most Beneficent (Allah) (i.e. this Quran and worship of Allah), We appoint for him Shaitan (Satan – devil) to be a Qarin (an intimate companion) to him. And verily, they (Satans / devils) hinder them from the Path (of Allah), but they think that they are guided aright! Till, when (such a one) comes to Us [at judgement], he says [to his Qarin (Satan / devil companion)] “Would that between me and you were the distance of the two easts (or the east and west)” a worst (type of) companion (indeed)! [Surah Az-Zukhruf. Aayaat 36-38]

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

Have you (O Muhammad) not seen those (hypocrites) who take for friends a people upon whom is the Wrath of Allah (i.e. Jews)? They are neither of you (Muslims) nor of them (Jews), and they swear to a lie while they know. Allah has prepared for them a severe torment. Evil indeed is that which they used to do. They have made their oaths a screen (for their evil actions). Thus they hinder (men) from the Path of Allah, so they shall have a humiliating torment. [Surah Al-Mujaadilah. Aayaat 14-16]

We ask Allaah to protect us from this misguidance Aameen.

Benefits of ‘Itikaaf on Safeguarding the Tongue and One’s Actions – Shaykh Al-Fawzan

(During ‘itikaaf and outside of ‘itikaaf) a person should speak for that which he needs for religious and worldly affairs as for pointless superfluous speech then there is no benefit in it from two angles:

1. The wasting of a persons time and busying him away from the remembrance of Allah.

2. It’s possible and refuge is sought with Allah, that the speech may be impermissible and his speech may nullify his actions, because he utters a statement which Allah is angered by. It is possible a person could nullify all of his actions and apostate from Islam (1), therefore speech can be dangerous for a person if he does not safeguard it, and there is no curing it except by ‘itikaaf because when a person isolates himself solely for the worship of Allah, he accustoms himself and trains himself upon little speech and upon the restraining of his tongue.

[2] Brief Acquaintance With Salafipublications – 1995 to Date – For The One Who Asks, The Who Speculates, The One Who Seeks to Conceal and The One Who Disregards History

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Salafi Publications was set up in the mid-1990s as a publishing house and online digital platform. Its immediate goal at the time was to counter the extremist currents of the Muslim Brotherhood (Ikhwanis), the Quṭbists and the Surūrists, as well as the Taḥrīris, all of whom were carrying and operating upon the doctrines of the Khārijites of takfīr and khurūj. It was realised that these doctrines, by their very nature, only one have one inevitable outcome—as known through sound Islāmic creed as well as the lessons of history—and that is bloodshed and chaos. Al-Qaeda and ISIS were the eventual results of that doctrine that was revived by the likes of Ḥasan al-Bannā, Abū Aʾlā Mawdūdī, Sayyid Quṭb in the 20th century. Through those activities Salafi Publications have experience and expertise in counter-extremism and counter-radicalisation at the ideological and grass-roots levels.

In addition, Salafi Publications, through its publishing activities, aims to present the authentic, orthodox teachings of Islām, free of both extremism and neglect, in all the various fields of knowledge and practice.

Are the issues between Green Lane Mosque [GLM] and Salafi Publications Personal?

The Conference of Green Lane Mosque (Singers and Ikhwanis) and Internal Politics:

These are some of the efforts of our beloved elder brothers – the elder students at Salafipublications. Allaah granted them the Tawfeeq to clarify this blessed Salafi methodology, exposed its opponents and false claimants. Therefore, we say to the one who questions their Dawah – whether one residing in the Muslim or non-Muslim lands – “Either you have sincere advice to give so that good and rectification increases by the Tawfeeq of Allaah or refrain from harbouring unjustified suspicions”.

[1] Brief Acquaintance With Salafipublications For The One Who Asks, The Who Speculates, The One Who Seeks to Conceal and The One Who Disregards History

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allaah [The Most High] said: [ وَتَعَاوَنُوا عَلَى الْبِرِّ وَالتَّقْوَىٰ ۖ وَلَا تَعَاوَنُوا عَلَى الْإِثْمِ وَالْعُدْوَانِ – Help you one another in Al-Birr and At-Taqwa (virtue, righteousness and piety); but do not help one another in sin and transgression]. [Surah Al-Maa’idah. Aayah 2]

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said: This verse contains all the Masaalih (things that will bring about benefit and repel harm) for the salves in their worldly affairs and in the Herefater- amongst themselves or in relation to their relationship with their Lord. That is because every servant finds himself within two circumstances and obligations – either to fulfil the obligations owed to Allaah or the obligations owed to Allaah’s creation. As for the obligations owed to the creation, they include (righteous) association, companionship, aiding one another upon what Allaah loves and obedience to Allaah, and that is the goal behind one’s search for happiness and success in the afterlife. There can be no happiness in the afterlife except through Bir and Taqwaa, because it is basis of all affairs of the religion. (1)

Indeed, we ask Allaah to grant us the Tawfeeq to fulfil this great command so that we aid one another in Bir and Taqwah, and adhere to the truth. Al-Allaamah Rabee Bin Haadi Al-Mad’khali may Allaah preserve him] said, “And (with regards to) the person with the proofs, it is obligatory to take his speech (on the grounds) of following Allaah’s Legislation and Proofs, and not (due to) the personality of that person”. (2)

Al-Allaamah Rabee also said, “The seeker of truth is not diverted from the truth, fairness and justice due to admiration of the big personalities and being amazed by them, for indeed the truth is more worthy to be followed. It is not permissible to drop the proofs for the sake of this or that great man. The principle [rule] of the Muslim – the unbiased one, the seeker of truth – is always: [قُلْ هَاتُوا بُرْهَانَكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ صَادِقِينَ -Say, bring forth your proofs if you are truthful]”. [Surah An-Nahl. Verse 64] (3)

Question to Al-Allaamah Saaleh al-Fawzaan [may Allaah preserve him], “What is the meaning of the principle, ‘The truth is not known by way of men, rather men are known by way of the truth?’”

Answer: Its meaning is that we do not merely blindly follow anyone, for it may be that one is blindly followed based on error; it may be that the Mujtahid is mistaken and the one who makes [a statement or holds an opinion] is mistaken, so we do not take [his statement, opinion etc] and say, “This is the statement of such as such; this is truth, because such and such is good, he is a scholar; such and such is Taqiy [i.e. one who fears Allaah]”. We do not say this because he is not infallible and he can make a mistake; so we know men by way of the truth – those who know; those who take (or adhere to) the proofs and indeed they are known to be scholars. As for those who do not give concern [or importance] to the proofs, they are not scholars; they are not people of (sound) understanding and they are not people of knowledge, so their statement is never taken straight away. It is imperative that the proof is presented, so if the proof is established as witness to (what he says or holds etc), then it is the truth; but if he opposes the proof, then indeed (his statement or opinion) is rejected; however if he is a Mujtahid and he is mistaken, he is rewarded (once) due to his Ijtihaad; but if he deliberately holds on to error, he has sinned. [Paraphrased. Refer to video here: ] NB: The Permissible and Prohibited Forms of Taqleed:

Indeed, this is what our beloved elder brothers – the elder students at Salafipublications – have been propagating for over two decades by the Tawfeeq of Allaah. They have stood firm – by the Tawfeeq of Allaah – to transmit the sound Salafi Methodology, constantly returning to the clarifications of the Salaf and that of the contemporary Salafi scholars. Therefore, we say to the one who questions their Dawah, “Either you have sincere advice to give so that good and rectification increases by the Tawfeeq of Allaah or refrain from harbouring unjustified suspicions”. Finally, here is some of the efforts of our elders at Salafipublications and their statements regarding what they are upon.
