In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.
Allaah [The Most High] said:
وَلَا تَقۡفُ مَا لَيۡسَ لَكَ بِهِۦ عِلۡمٌۚ إِنَّ ٱلسَّمۡعَ وَٱلۡبَصَرَ وَٱلۡفُؤَادَ كُلُّ أُوْلَـٰٓٮِٕكَ كَانَ عَنۡهُ مَسۡـُٔولاً۬
And follow not that of which you have no knowledge (e.g. one’s saying: “I have seen,” while in fact he has not seen, or “I have heard,” while he has not heard). Verily! The hearing, and the sight, and the heart, of each of those you will be questioned (by Allah). [Surah Al-Israa. Aayah 36]
Pottymouth – slanderous Usaamah – unleashes his vile slanderous tongue against Shaikh Abu Khadeejah [may Allaah protect him and his loved ones from every evil] and claims that Abu Khadeejah deceives and overpowers women! Indeed, this false accusation and what is similar to it is expected from this vile slanderer, therefore, our obligation is that we remind ourselves of the grave crime of slander and false witness. Allaah [The Exalted] said:
[فَاجْتَنِبُوا الرِّجْسَ مِنَ الأَوْثَانِ وَاجْتَنِبُوا قَوْلَ الزُّورِ – So shun the abomination (worshipping) of idol, and shun lying speech (false statements)] [Surah Al-Hajj. Aayah 30]
The Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said, “Shall I not inform you of the biggest of the great sins?” We We said, “Certainly, O Allah’s Messenger”. He said, “To associate partners with Allaah in worship, to be undutiful to one’s parents.” The Prophet sat up after he had been reclining and added, “And I warn you against giving forged statement and a false witness; I warn you against giving a forged statement and a false witness.” The Prophet kept on saying that warning till we thought that he would not stop”. (1)
Allaah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said: “Whoever argues based on falsehood knowingly will not cease to be under the wrath of Allaah until he stops. And whoever says about a believer that which is not true, he will reside in Radghat Al-Khabaal (pus) until he recants”. [Abu Dawud. Number 3597. Silsilah As-Saheehah Number 437]
The Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said, “When the son of Adam wakes up in the morning, all the limbs humble themselves before the tongue and say, ‘Fear Allaah for our sake, (for) we are with you; if you are upright, we will be upright; and if you are crooked, we will become crooked'”. (2)
The Prophet [peace abd blessings of Allaah be upon him] said, “Whoever can guarantee (the chastity of) what is between his two jaw bones and what is between his two legs (i.e. his mouth, his tongue and his private parts), I guarantee Paradise for him”. (3)
The Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said, “A slave of Allah may utter a word without thinking whether it is right or wrong, he may slip down in the Fire as far away a distance equal to that between the east.” (4)
Finally, it is well known that when obstinate slanderers have no proof, they then make mere claims. Then when they fail to produce proofs after being challenged, their blind followers and partners in crime either brush the affair under the carpet or claim that it was an honest mistake – after following such path to generate sympathy and draw attention. As for the who listens to these lies and slanders whilst either being absolutely certain that they are false or refrains from reprimanding the person who utters them, then indeed we remind him or her that even the Mushrikoon hated lies. When Hercules asked Abu Sufyaan [i.e. at the time Abu Sufyaan (may Allaah be pleased with him) was not a Muslim] about the Prophet, he said, “By Allah! Had I not been afraid of my companions labelling me a liar, I would not have spoken the truth about the Prophet”. Imaam Ibn Hajr stated in Fat-hul Baari that this shows that they [i.e. the pagan Arabs] used to abhor lying [or used to consider it to be an ugly deed]- either based on what they followed from the previous revealed laws [i.e. the path of Ibraaheem (alayhis-salaam) etc] or it was something abhorred in their customs. [See Sharh of the long hadeeth in Bukhaari Number 7]
Therefore, a more honorable behaviour is expected from a Muslim when he hears these false claims, slanders and falsehoods that are uttered to violate the honour of innocent people. We ask Allaah to include us amongst the truthful and protect us from vile Usaamah’s slanderous tongue Aameen.
