No wonder our societies with superior military technology and various worldly sciences either behave badly on the global stage or have a high rate of mental health issues!

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Imam As-Sadi [may Allah have mercy upon him] said:

Everyone has participated in industrialisation and modern innovations, the righteous, the wicked, the believer, and the unbeliever, (however), religion and (virtuous) manners, on the other hand, have both deteriorated significantly in our era. So, when this industrial progress is devoid of religion and sound faith (i.e. Islam), it does significant harm from two perspectives: first, it deceived many people who, owing to ignorance, believe that worldly success proves that its achievers are more deserving of every good than others. They are clearly misguided since a person may be among the most skilled in matters pertaining to the material world while being among the most ignorant in matters pertaining to religion, virtuous manners, and (other) beneficial affairs in this life and the next. Second, when these inventions are devoid of religion–its mercy and wisdom–they become a big calamity for humankind, resulting in wars, bloodshed, devastation, and other affairs. Its overseers and scholars are unable to establish a stable, just, and good life for humanity; rather, they have not stopped alternating from one miserable state to another. This is unavoidable, as evidenced by the status quo. Therefore, all good is found in the sound religion (i.e. Islam), and all evil is found in rejecting and consciously disbelieving in (Allah, His Messengers, His Laws, Guidance, Commands, Prohibitions, etc.) [(1)]

The Imam [may Allah have mercy upon him] said:

Among the most amazing phenomena is that many contemporary writers and politicians aim to rectify the many social ills and attempt to do so from many perspectives; yet, as for the problem of atheism (or divergence from the infallible divine revelation and guidance), which has carried away the majority of young people, they have not rushed to stop it by returning to sound Imaan and certainty; rather, they have been abandoned to wander blindly in their misguidance and wavering in beguilement, and thus the social ills they seek to rectify give birth to other social ills because if the path to rectification is not founded on Imaan and the sound religion (of Islam), they will increase and worsen.
