Author: Abu Aa'isha Amjad

The Mufti, Shaykh Ghudyaan, Shaykh Fawzaan and Shaykh Bakr Abu Zayd on grave mistakes of Halabi

Fatwa no. 21517

Q: Some people ask about the two books entitled “Al-tahdhir min Fitnat Al-takfir (the Warning Against the trial of Pronouncing Disbelief)” and “Sayhat Nadhir (the Cry of the Warner)” compiled by `Aly Hasan Al-Halaby The two books call to the Madh-hab (school of jurisprudence) of Irja’, which holds that actions are not a fundamental condition upon which the soundness of Iman (Faith) depends, and relate this opinion to Ahl-ul-Sunnah wal-Jama`ah (adherents to the Sunnah and the Muslim mainstream). The author based the two books on distorted transmissions from the Shaykh of Islam Ibn Taymiyyah Al-Hafizh Ibn Kathir, and others (may Allah be merciful with them all). The advisors hope to see clarifications of the material of the books so that readers will be able to differentiate between truth and falsehood.

A: After studying the two books, the Committee found that the book entitled Al-Tahdhir min Fitnat Al-Takfir, compiled by `Aly Hasan Al-Halaby where he added to the sayings of scholars in the introduction and commentaries, includes the following:

1. The author based the book on the invalid and innovated Madh-hab of Al-Murji’ah (a deviant Islamic sect), who limit Kufr (disbelief) to denial, rejection, conscious Istihlal (believing that what is prohibited is to be made lawful) as seen on page 6, commentary 2, and also page 22. This opinion opposes that of Ahl-ul-Sunnah wal-Jama`ah who believe that doctrinal disbelief, actions, statements, and/or doubt entail Kufr.

2. The author distorted facts when transmitting from Ibn Kathir (may Allah be merciful with him) from Al-Bidayah wal Nihayah 13/118, where he stated in his commentary in page 15 – as cited

(Part No. 2; Page No. 138)

from Ibn Kathir: “Verily, Genghis Khan claimed that Al-Yasiq was revealed by Allah and that is why they were regarded as Kafirs (disbelievers).” When referring to the stated page, the saying claimed to be Ibn Kathir’s (may Allah be merciful with him) was not found.

3. He fabricated lies against the Shaykh of Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah be merciful with him) in pages 17-18, where he falsely related to him the claim that ruling by other than what Allah has revealed was not considered Kufr by Shaykh-ul-Islam unless it is done out of knowledge, belief, and Istihlal. This is sheer fabrication against the Shaykh of Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him), who promoted the Madh-hab of the Salaf (righteous predecessors), Ahl-ul-Sunnah wal-Jama`ah, which is already mentioned; however, this is the Math-hab of Al-Murji’ah.

4. He fabricated the meaning intended by the knowledgeable Shaykh Muhammad ibn Ibrahim (may Allah be merciful with him) in his treatise “Tahkim Al-Qawanin Al-Wad`iyyah” (Seeking the Rulings of Man-made Laws), as he falsely claimed that the Sheikh considers conscious Istihlal a condition for Kufr, although the statements of the Sheikh plainly indicate that he followed the opinion of Ahl-ul-Sunnah wal-Jama`ah.

5. He commented on the statements of the people of knowledge and implied that these statements mean what they do not mean, as in page 108, commentary 1; page 109,

(Part No. 2; Page No. 139)

commentary 21; and page 110, commentary 2.

6. The book also lessens the sin of ruling by other than what Allah has revealed, particularly on page 5, commentary 1, claiming that paying special attention to enforcing Tawhid (belief in the Oneness of Allah) in this area is considered an imitation of the Rafidah (a Shi`ah group denying the caliphates of Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq and `Umar ibn Al-Khattab and making accusations against them and many other Companions of the Prophet), and this is a grave mistake.

7. On examining the second book entitled “Sayhat Nadhir”, the Committee found that it is a supporting tool for the contents of the first book. Accordingly, the Permanent Committee believes that it is not permissible to print, publish, or distribute the two books because of the falsehood and fabrications they contain. We advise the author to fear Allah for himself and for Muslims, especially the youth, and endeavor to acquire knowledge of the Shari`ah (Islamic law) at the hands of scholars trusted for their knowledge and beliefs. Knowledge is a trust which should not be spread unless it is in accordance with the Qur’an and the Sunnah (whatever is reported from the Prophet). The author must renounce these opinions and highly shameful approaches in distorting the statements of the people of knowledge. It is known that returning to the truth is a virtue and a cause of dignity for Muslims.

May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.

Major Scholars past and present on Shaykh Rabee

  • Shaykh Muqbil bin Haadi Al Waadi’ee
  • Shaykh Abdul Mohsin Al-Abbad
  • Shaykh Al-Uthaymeen
  • Shaykh Abdullah Al-Ghudyaan
  • Shaykh Al Luhaydaan
  • Shaykh Bin Baaz
  • Shaykh Muhammad Ibn Abdul Wahhab Marzooq al-Banna

This article is not a definitive compilation of all the statements of praise on Shaykh Rabee, but has been compiled in order to dispel the lies and deceptions of those who revile Shaykh Rabee bin Haadi Al Madkhalee. Some people say that Shaykh Rabee is not respected by the Scholars or that he is not held in high regard, or even that he has been warned against!

Well to them we say; read this article, Fear Allah and rectify your tongues. The article is not comprised of my statements or statements of fulaan or fulaan, rather in this article are a handful of statements from the major scholars past (may Allah have mercy on them) and present (may Allah preserve them) concerning the status of the Shaykh – and we do not praise anyone over the praise of Allah. Verily Ahlul ilm know the status and rank of ahlul ilm.

Before we begin let us take heed from this reminder from the noble Shaikh Zayd al-Madkhalee (hafidhahullaah) who said:

“…The one who belittles the righteous scholars, criticizes them, and describes them with that which they are free from, then he has been afflicted with the disease of doubt and the disease of lust. And the distinguishing sign of the people of bid’ah was that they would find fault with the righteous scholars…” – http://www.sunnahpublishing.net/modules/Manhaj/sittahtranslation.pdf

Shaykh Muqbil bin Haadi Al Waadi’ee

Shaykh Muqbil said in Tuhfatul-Mujeeb, “Shaykh Rabee is a sign from the signs of Allaah (aayah min aayaatillaah) in knowing the Hizbiyyeen, not like the ayatollahs of Iraan, the Dajjaalleen…

Shaykh Muqbil also said, “Whomever Shaykh Rabee’ says is a Hizbee, then the days will soon reveal that he is a Hizbee…”

Shaykh Abdul Mohsin Al Abbad on Shaykh Rabee

Questioner: A rumor has appeared and it is being carried by some people with sick hearts, claiming falsely that you have spoken ill of Sheikh Rabee in a lesson from one of your lessons. And we dont believe that they want by this except to set the Scholars in opposition against one another. So what is your statement concerning this? And what is your instruction to these people? Therefore we would like to take a tape and spread it to clarify their falsehood.

Sheikh Abdul Muhsin Al Abad:

“Sheikh Rabee is from those who are busy with knowledge during this time period, and he has efforts which are good and tremendous in working with the Sunnah. And also he has authored works, so he has authored works which are good and tremendous and beneficial. And I do not criticize him, nor do I warn from him, and I say he is from those Scholars whom are well grounded and if he is busy with knowledge you find in him many benefits.

Therefore I consider Sheikh Rabee to be from the Scholars, those whom should be listened to, and from those Scholars whose benefit is great.

Shaykh Uthaymeen on why people speak about Shaykh Rabee

The questioner asks:

What is your advice concerning the one who forbids the cassettes of Shaikh Rabee’ bin Haadee [from being distributed] with the claim that they cause fitnah and that they contain praise of the Wullaat ul-Umoor of the Kingdom, and that his praise of them emanates from nifaaq (hypocrisy)?

To which the Shaykh responds:

رأينا هذا غلط وخطأ عظيم ، والشيخ ربيع من علماء السنَّة ومن أهل الخير وعقيدته سليمة ومنهجه قويم ، لكن لما كان يتكلم على بعض الرموز عند بعض الناس من المتأخرين وصموه بهذه العيوب ، أعرفت ؟

We consider this to be a great error and mistake. Shaikh Rabee’ is from the Ulamaa of the Sunnah, and from the people of goodness. His aqidah is sound and his manhaj is strong and sound. However, when he began to speak about some of the symbolic figureheads of some of the people, from amongst the latecomers they began to tarnish him with these faults. Do you know [this] now?

http://www.themadkhalis.com/md/articles/epluy-shaykh-ibn-uthaymin-the-people-began-to-tarnish-shaykh-rabee-with-faults-after-he-spoke-about-some-of-their-symbolic-figureheads.cfm

Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen (rahimahullaah) said,

“Indeed we praise Allaah, Free is He from all imperfections, the Most High, that He makes it easy for our brother, the Doctor, Rabee’ bin Haadee al-Madkhalee to visit this region. [So that] the one to whom certain matters are not apparent may come to know that our brother, may Allaah grant us and him success, is upon Salafiyyah, the way of the Salaf. And I do not mean here that Salafiyyah is a hizb (party) which is set up to oppose the Muslims outside of it,but I mean by Salafiyyah, that he (i.e. Shaikh Rabee’) is upon the path of the Salaf in his Manhaj. Especially in the field of actualising Tawheed and throwing aside (i.e. refuting, clarifying) what opposes this [manhaj]. And all of us know tht Tawheed is the basis for which Allaah sent the Messengers upon them be peace and prayers…

The visit of our brother, Shaikh Rabee bin Haadee to this region, our city, Unaizah, no doubt will have a good effect and it will also become clear to many of the people what used to be hidden from them due to the scare-mongering and rumour-mongering and also letting loose the tongue [of discord]. And how numerous are those who are remorseful about what they said concerning the Ulamaa, when it becomes clear to them that they (the Ulamaa) are upon the truth.”

Then one of those present at the gathering says, “There is a question concerning the books of Shaikh Rabee’?”

To which the Shaik replied,

It is apparently clear that this question is not in need of my answer. And just as Imaam Ahmad was asked about Ishaaq bin Raahawaih – rahimahumullaah – and he replied, “Someone like me is asked about Ishaaq! Rather, Ishaaq is to be asked about me.” And I spoke at the beginning of my speech about that which I know about Shaikh Rabee’, may Allaah grant him success, and what I mentioned has never ceased to be what I hold about him in my soul, up until this time. And his arrival here and his words that have reached me, then no doubt, they are such that they will increase a person in his love for him and in his supplication for him.” End of quote. (Cassette: “Ittihaaf al-Kurraam Bi Liqaa al-Uthaimeen Ma’a Rabee al-Madhkhalee wa Muhammad al-Imaam”)

Shaykh Ghudyaan meeting with Shaykh Rabee

The following is a summary translation taken from sahab.net – http://www.sahab.net/forums/showthread.php?p=564579

(Sultan bin Muhammad bin Saalim Al Juni) said

“I was a companion with our Sheikh, Sheikh Rabee during his meeting with the major scholars in Taif in the year 1427 (Islamic year)

So I will mention when we went to the Noble Scholar Sheikh Abdullah Ghudayyan, may Allah preserve him.

So we entered upon him in his office and we gave him the greetings, so he stood and shook Sheikh Rabees hand, gave us the greetings, and sat us down with him.

So he began to speak with Sheikh Rabee with delight and gentle, polite humor.

Then the talk was surrounding the minhaj, so Sheikh Rabee said, We warn from mistakes in the minhaj that oppose the book and the Sunnah and oppose the minhaj of the Salafi Salih that some of the callers fall into, so that the people will not be deceived by them.

So Sheikh Ghudayyan said, I am with you in this oh Sheikh Rabee.

And before Sheikh Rabee sought permission to leave, Sheikh Ghudayyan requested some of Sheikh Rabees recent books so he could look at them, so Sheikh Rabee promised to send this to him.

Then Sheikh Rabee sought Sheikh Ghudayyans permission to depart, so he gave us permission to leave. And we left with the same, rather we left with more happiness, delight and peace of mind than we had when we were greeted.”

Shaykh Saalih Al-Luhaydaan on those who warn against Shaykh Rabee 1426 hijri/2005

Shaykh Saalih al-Luhaydaan (may Allaah preserve him):

“No doubt, this is oppression and a wrongful form of aggression.  We do not know of any contradictions to the Sharee’ah by Shaykh Rabee’.  And we do not of any of the well-known scholars to warn against (him).

Question:

The Shaykh’s Answer:

Original source: Sahab.Net, translation (taken from the one posted on ST, with corrections made to it):

I read and I hear in some sittings a campaing slandering the noble scholar as-Shaikh Rabee’ ibn Hadee al-Madkhalee and warnings against him, in addition to taking from him (knowledge), and that he is not from Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jamaa’ah, which made me become confused in my affair (of seeking knowledge). So what is the ruling upon this, please clarify? Jazakumullaahu Khair.

He (Sheikh Saalih) answered:

There is no doubt that he (Shaikh Rabee’) is from the people of knowledge, and he is from the students of our Shaykh, Shaykh Abdul ‘Azeez (Ibn Baaz) (when they were) in Madinah, and he (Shaykh Rabee’) used to be from the teachers of Madinah (Islamic) University. I do not know any deviations of him neither in Aqeedah nor in Akhlaaq (mannerism), rather my perception of him that he is good and that he is from the people of goodness, as well as being from those who battle the callers to fitnah.

Thereafter I advise the youth is to stay away from reviling the scholars, and to withhold their tongues (from reviling the scholars). Also let them (the youth) strive to assess themselves (to improve themselves). And then if they saw what they thought is a fault in someone, then let them investigate their own souls (first), and let them look into them, so if they saw faults (in their own souls), they should be eager to rectify them …

Shaykh Saalih Al-Luhaydaan 1432 hijir/2011

Quote:

Second matter: Ash-Shaykh Rabee’ bin Haadee Al Madkhalee is from the people of knowledge and what an excellent man! …..

…Rather, if they presented this matter to Shaykh Rabee’ it would become apparent to them, that he does not intend this dangerous path and dispelling methodology, rather the intent is those lenient ones, the warners and those who say: we facilitate all the people from all walks of life and each one of us acts upon what he believes and we excuse whatever others believe! No, the matter is not like that as well. It is obligatory that the truth be dominant upon various people and their ways and it is Allaah whose help we seek.

Shaykh Muhammad Ibn Abdul Wahhab Marzooq al-Banna praise of Shaykh Rabee

How long have you known sheikh Rabee?

Since 1382h/1383h until now.

quote:

…by Allaah I would not have believed it if all the people told me for my experience of knowing Rabee while even as a student and until now I have not known him ever to lie.

quote:

Is Sheikh Rabee from the Kibaar al Ulamaa?

Who is in this time similar to him? He knows the reality of most of the callers. Who is like him? He knows with proof and evidence. He doesn’t speak about anyone except with the proof. That is why I say about Rabee Haadee is similar to Yahyah ibn Ma’een in this time. You must forgive me son I have become old I forget, now I am 90 years. Shiekh Ibn Baz rahimahullaah is the Umar ibn AbdulAziz in this era. And sheikh Nasrud Deen al Albaani rahimahullaah is the Ibn Taymiyyah of this era. and Sheikh Uthaimeen rahimahullaah  is the Shaf’ee of this era. By Allaah, the most knowledgeable of our scholars in this time ibn Uthaimeen rahimahullaah and the most generous is Sheikh AbdulAziz ibn Baz rahimahullaah, And the most knowledgeable of those differences between people and knowing the truth is Sheikh al Albaani rahimahullaah, and the most knowledgeable ones of Rijaal (men) with proof and evidence is Sheikh Rabee Haadee May Allaah protect him. And May Allaah protect his intellect.

When sheikh al Albaani rahimahullaah showed the errors of Sayid Qutb and Abdullah Dawaish rahimahullaah no one moved but when Sheikh Rabee may Allaah be pleased with him, showed the misguidance of Sayid Qutb and he clarified it from his (Sayid Qutb’s) books and his situation in the past, the world was against Rabee. He said it with openness and evidence.

So may Allaah reward him and make him firm and may Allaah keep him alive to remove those who wear the clothes of salafiyyah in order to fight it. We ask Allaah to show their state and clarify them and keep their evil away from us.

Shaykh bin Baz leter to Shaykh Rabee asking him to refute an individual who made taweel of Allah’s attribute and to clarify the truth to the Muslims.

The letter has an official letter head for “the Office of the General Muftee of the Kingdom”, is dated 24/7/1415H and begins with the subject heading:

Regarding the speech of the one-called Nazih Hammad on the Noble Qur’an Radio [program].

The letter is addressed from Abdul-Aziz bin Abdullah bin Baz to the

His respectfulness, the Noble Brother, the Esteemed Shaykh, Dr. Rabee’ bin Haadee al-Madkhali, may Allaah grant him safety, Ameen.

After giving salutations, the Shaykh mentioned that he was informed by Dr. Muhammad bin Sa’ad ash-Shuway’ir of Shaykh Rabee’s hearing of the speech of the one called Nazih Hammad which was broadcast on the Noble Qur’an Radio [program] on 12/6/1415H between 7am and 8am and that he spoke about the Ta’weel of the attributes of al-hayaa and al-ghadab.

Then the Shaykh said:

For this reason, I ask from your excellence to expect reward in refuting him and clarifying the truth to the Muslims, because I have not heard this speech (directly).

May Allaah grant your excellence success in every goodness and multiply your reward, for He is all-Hearing, ever-Near…

Then the Shaykh gives his salutations and places his official seal at the end of the letter.

QUESTIONS TO THE NOBLE SHAIKH MUHAMMAD BIN HAADI AL-MADKHALEE

REGARDING MADEENAH DOT COM AND IT’S STANCE TOWARDS SALAFI PUBLICATIONS, IN THE UK.

Dated: Sunday, 16th/J2/1431H (5th May 2010)

 A pivotal quote:

“So if they [Madeenah.Com and associates] do not return (to what is correct) and do not repent, then they are not to be put in front of the people, nor are they to be co-operated with, rather they are to be warned against – I say, in addition to that, they are warned against so that the people can beware of them, because if the people do not beware of them, they will fall into their snare, and go astray as a result of them.”

Our elder brother, Abul-Hasan Maalik Ibn Aadam, recently asked the noble Scholar about an American caller who was involved in the efforts of Madeenah(dot)Com to counter the da’wah of the brothers at Salafi Publications in Birmingham, UK. He also asks about the validity of the position that some of the noble callers in the US took towards those involved with Madeenah(dot)Com to not co-operate with them in da’wah and to not lecture alongside them in the lessons and yearly conferences until those involved in Madeenah(dot)Com recanted and repented from their campaign to wrongfully ascribe extremism and excessiveness to Salafi Publications.

The full question can be found on SunnahPublishing.Net

Abu al-Hasan Malik al-Akhdar (hafidhahullaah) asked:

“One of the brothers returned (here) recently after leaving the Islamic University in Madinah and began to participate in the field of da’wah in giving lessons and lectures. The problem is that when he was in the university, he used to speak against some of our Salafi brothers in America and Britain, specifically, the brothers at Maktabah Salafiyyah in Birmingham. And he accuses them and others from amongst the brothers with exaggeration and extremism in the subject of criticism of men and factions in the West.

Likewise, he was with the jamaa’ah (faction) in Madinah who took up a position against the Maktabah, and announced (and propagated) the likes of these affairs on the Internet on a website called Madeenah.Com.

So when we noticed his speech regarding our brothers about whom we know nothing except goodness, and spreading of the Sunnah in the West, and returning to the Scholars, we took a position that we will not cooperate (i.e. participate) with him in lessons and lectures, until he holds back from his speech, and rectifies what preceded from him. And we have not warned from him, and nor have we spoken about him openly, so the question O Shaykh is what is the correctness of this position of the brothers and what do you advise your sons, the du’aat (callers) in the West on this matter?”

Shaykh Muhammad bin Haadee (hafidhahullaah) answered on Sunday, 16th/J2/1431H (5th May 2010):

“I say, those whom the questioner has asked about, I know about them, I also know their problem, and to the well-informed (i.e. myself) have you come upon. And our brothers from al-Maktabah as-Salafiyyah in Birmingham, I know them fully (completely). I know them for more than 13 or 14 years, no, around 15 years (in fact). And I know them, and I know the soundness of their way, and their methodology which they are upon. And those whom you have mentioned (Madeenah.com), I know, some of them used to be with us (i.e. present with us) in al-Madinah, and in this topic [i.e. of da’wah to Allaah and refuting opposers], they amount to nothing when compared to our brothers at the Maktabah Salafiyyah. For our brothers in al-Maktabah as-Salafiyyah in Birmingham there is [in their da’wah] truthful striving and good, benificent deeds and many blessed and thanked for affairs, in disseminating the true, sound, Salafi Da’wah to people in all areas of the West, [all of] which is to be thanked for, and which is to be mentioned about them in goodness, for may Allaah reward them with goodness, and specifically the brothers, Abdul-Wahid Abu Khadeejah, and Dawud Burbank, and likewise the brother Bilal Abu Hakeem, and besides them from the Salafi brothers who are with them, co-operating with them in al-Maktabah as-Salafiyyah, from those whose names I have forgotten right now.As for those whom you have mentioned, then they have erred with the extremity of error. And I mentioned this to some of them when they were here, and I have given direction to some of them, and I explained to them in that regard, however, they refused that they should accept. So the likes of those, if they do not return (from their way), then it is not desirable for them to be put in front of the people (to teach, give lectures). As for al-Maktabah as-Salafiyyah and their speech regarding men, and their criticism of people in the West, then I do not know from them except goodness regarding this aspect. Rather, they ask us about everyone they know over there. So those about whom we know, we answer, and those whom we do not know, we ask them for documented [evidence] from him, from his speech (voice), which is translated when it is not in the Arabic language, or from his writings, which is translated when it is not in the Arabic language, and when it is in the Arabic language, they bring it to us with his (recorded) voice, and so on like this. And we pass judgement, and give verdict upon what we hear. And the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wasallam), “I am just a man, I pass judgement based upon what I hear” or as he (sallallaahu alayhi wasallam) said. The point here is that those who accuse the brothers with harshness (tashaddud) and exaggeration (ghuluww), and extremism (tatarruf), then they are in reality, erroneous. And some of them, and I say this with all truthfulness, are liars, transgressors. So we ask Allaah, the Sublime and Exalted, for guidance for the one who erred (amongst them), and we ask Allaah, the Mighty and Majestic, for guidance for the one who lied and transgressed, and that He returns him to the way of truth and correctness, and if not, then may Allaah relieve us and relieve the Muslims of his evil, indeed He is Jawaad, Kareem.

As for what relates to criticising men in the West or the East, then criticism is a legislative methodology, by way of it is the Sunnah protected, and by way of it is the religion preserved, and by way it is the aqidah protected, and by it are Ahl us-Sunnah distinguished from the Ahl ul-Bid’ah, and thus Ahl us-Sunnah are given preponderance and their way is followed, and Ahl ul-Bid’ah are warned against and they are not sought, their way is warned against. And whoever rejects this, then he is an opposer of what the Righteous Salaf were upon in this topic. And these books of the Salaf are present. And criticism is a legislative methodology and criticism of men, factions and groups is from giving of advice for the sake of religion of Allaah, the Blessed and Exalted. Thus, it is vital to explain (in the likes of this topic), for this is from the giving of advice to the people so that they are not misguided in this subject, and it is dealt with appropriately in the various places (i.e. works, books), the Scholars of the Sunnah and Hadeeth have explained it, and the Imaams of Hadeeth they are the Imaams of this matter, even if the people defy this, and even if some of the people refuse this now, and begin to renounce (this matter), for the Imaams of Hadeeth, they are the Scholars of this discipline, they are the knights of this field, and the people return to them and they (constitute) that which is depended upon in (terms of) speech (in this subject).

And this position of yours is a correct position. So if they [Madeenah.Com and associates] do not return (to what is correct) and do not repent, then they are not to be put in front of the people, nor are they to be co-operated with, rather they are to be warned against, I say, in addition to that, they are warned against so that the people can beware of them, because if the people do not beware of them, they will fall into their snare, and go astray as a result of them. We ask Allaah for pardon and safety, and all praise is due to the Lord of the Worlds.”

“The most severely punished people on the Day of Resurrection would be the image-makers.” [Bukhaari & Muslim] UPDATED

  1. Two of the most poignant ahadith are the following and will clearly highlight the severity of partaking in taking photos and worse still doing an action that is haraam and then displaying it to be seen, whether in the houses, or on any type of social media; i.e. facebook, twitter etc

The most severely punished people (1) on the Day of Resurrection would be the image-makers. [Bukhaari and Muslim]

Every image-maker will be in the fire of Hell. A soul will be made for him for every image which he has made and it will punish him in the Hell-fire. [Muslim]

(1) Shaikh Uthaymeen was asked: how do we reconcile between the statement of the prophet (sallal.laahu.alayhi wasallam), “the people who will receive the severest punishment on the day of judgement will be the picture makers….” and the fact that the mushrikoon will receive the greatest punishment on the day of judgement.

Answer : The severest punishment here means; the severest punishment received by the sinners whose sins have not reached disbelief. As for the severest punishment received by the mushrikoon, their punishment will be the severest amongst all the people.

Ahadith from the Prophet sallallaahu’alaihiwasallam:

Allah’s Messenger said: “Those who make these images will be punished on the Day of Resurrection and it will be said to them, ‘Make alive what you have created.’” [Bukhaari and Muslim]

Narrated ’Aaishah radiyallaahu’anhaa: Allaah’s Messenger sallallaahu’alaihiwasallam returned from a journey when I had placed a curtain of mine having images over the door of a chamber of mine. When Allaah’s Messenger sallallaahu’alaihiwasallam saw it he tore it apart and said: “The people who will receive the severest punishment on the Day of Resurrection will be those who try to make the like of Allaah’s creation.” [Bukhaari]

The Prophet sallallaahu’alaihiwasallam forbade taking the price of blood, the price of a dog and the earnings of a prostitute. He also cursed the one who took or gave ribaa (interest), the lady who tattooed others or got herself tattoed, and the image maker. [Bukhaari]

The most severely punished people on the Day of Resurrection would be the image-makers. [Bukhaari and Muslim]

Every image-maker will be in the fire of Hell. A soul will be made for him for every image which he has made and it will punish him in the Hell-fire. [Muslim]

Allaah the Glorious and Exalted said, “Who is more a wrongdoer than one who tries to create creation like My creation. Let him create a small ant or a grain of wheat.” [Muslim]

Question: What is the ruling concerning hanging a picture on the wall? What is the ruling concerning owning pictures of people?

Answer: It is not allowed to hang a picture or keep a picture of any being that possesses a soul. It is obligatory to destroy such pictures. This is because the Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alaihi-wasallam) said,

“Do not leave any image, but [instead] efface it.” [1] It was confirmed in the hadith of Jabir radiyallaahu ‘anhu that,

“That because the Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alaihi-wasallam) prohibited having pictures in houses.” [2]

Therefore, all pictures meant for remembrance should be torn to pieces or burnt. However, pictures that are needed out of necessity, such as for official identification purposes and so forth, may be kept.

Question: What is the ruling concerning taking pictures using a mobile phone considering some people say that it is just capturing a shadow and there is no prohibition in that, so what is the ruling concerning that?

Answer: For HIM there is no prohibition in that, as for the Sunnah and the evidences then picture taking/making in general is Haraam (prohibited) and the picture maker is cursed. And he will receive from the most severest of punishments on the Day of Judgment. So what is it that takes the mobile phone out from this generality? The Messenger made picture making Haraam without exception by any means; (whether that be by way of ) a mobile phone, a camera, by hand(sculpting) or by drawing, he made it absolutely Haraam. So who is he that makes an exception from what the messenger sallallaahu alaihi wasallam said and attempts to redress the messenger. Apart from that the Muhaqqiqeen (verifiers) from the Scholars make an exception in the case of necessity, if a person is in need of taking a picture for a necessity then it is allowed due to this necessity due to His saying – the Most High:

(وقَدْ فَصَّلَ لَكُم مَّا حَرَّمَ عَلَيْكُمْ إلاَّ مَا اضْطُرِرْتُمْ إلَيْهِ )

while He has explained to you in detail what is forbidden to you, except under compulsion of necessity? [Surah al-‘An’aam:119]

As for picture taking as a hobby or as a form of art by the use of the camera or by hand or by any object then it is Haraam and it is not allowed except in case of necessity only. In accordance to the necessity it is a concession. It is a concession due to a necessity only.

Question: When I go out on excursions with a group of friends, I take pictures to keep them as mementos. What is the ruling on taking pictures for this purpose?

Answer: The ruling is this practice is that it is unlawful, that is, if the picture is taken of something with a sole (a human or an animal), The Prophet (sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam) said: The people who will be most severely punished on the Day of Judgement will be the picture-makers. [1] The Prophet (sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam) also cursed those who make pictures. As for taking pictures of things without a soul – a car, a plane, a tree, etc., – there is no harm in that. And with Allaah is the facilitation to do what is right.

My dear brothers and sisters in Islaam this life is short and it is the place of action and increasing in good deeds and staying away from sins, and the hereafter is the place of accountability, where we will be held to account for that which we have done.

Do NOT underestimate the severity of this sin or the severity of the punishment due to this action, fear Allah oh muslims and repent to your Lord who is the Oft Forgiving but also know and remind yourselves that Allah is severe in punishment to those who transgress his limits, so repent to your Lord and leave off this action of photography which has such a dangerous recompense for the one who does it.

May Allah give us and you success in this life and the next.

The Religion is Advice: Enjoin the Good & Forbid the Evil

A brief advice to the brothers and sisters, baarakAllaahu feekum:

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Indeed in the hadith of tameem ad daarimee which is well known the Messenger of Allah sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam said:

‘Ad-Deen An-Naseehah, Ad-Deen An-Naseehah, Ad-Deen An-Naseehah’
Muslim

Allah says:

Let there arise out of you a group of people inviting to all that is good (Islâm), enjoining Al-Ma’rûf (i.e. Islâmic Monotheism and all that Islâm orders one to do) and forbidding Al-Munkar (polytheism and disbelief and all that Islâm has forbidden). And it is they who are the successful.
Aali Imran verse 104.

And He says:

He ( Muhammad sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam) commands them for Al-Ma’rûf (i.e. Islâmic Monotheism and all that Islâm has ordained); and forbids them from Al-Munkar (i.e. disbelief, polytheism of all kinds, and all that Islâm has forbidden); he allows them as lawful At-Taiyibât [(i.e. all good and lawful) as regards things, deeds, beliefs, persons, foods, etc.], and prohibits them as unlawful Al-Khabâ’ith (i.e. all evil and unlawful as regards things, deeds, beliefs, persons, foods, etc.)
Al A’raf verse 157

And in a Hadith the Messenger of Allah sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam said:

One of you does not truly believe until he loves for his brother that which he loves for himself.
Bukhaari & Muslim

And he  sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam said

‘Verily one of you does not truly believe until I become more beloved to him than his father, his son and all the people.’
Bukhaari & Muslim

We would like to remind our honourable brothers and sisters of the great sin of image making, an issue that is so serious it is one of the Major Sins and as such it’s severity and grave nature has been related to us in many ahadith of the prophet sallaahu alaihi wa sallam. Please click the link below, whichi ncludes the hadeeth as well as Fatawa of the Scholars past and present. May Allah give us and you success in this life and the next.

False Principles of The People of Bidah

“We Correct Mistakes But We Do Not Make Jarh”

Imaam Abdul Azeez Bin Baz (rahimahullaah) said:

”Indeed the criticism from ahlul ilm and rebuttal of one whose rebuttal is an obligation, this is from the affair of giving sincere advice to the Ummah……..”

Imaam Muhammad Bin Saaleh Al-Uthaymeen (rahimahullaah) was asked about the above false principle, so he said:

”This is a mistake, rather we refute the one who willfully opposes the truth.”

Al-Allaama Saaleh Al-Fawzaan was asked about the above false principle, so he said:

”This principle has no foundation…..the people of falsehood must be refuted.”

Al-Allaama Zaid Bin Haadi Al Madkhalee said:

”This principle is not from the principles of the Rabbaani scholars.”

Obligation of Repentance (Tawbah) – Shaykh Fawzaan

Belief that Tawbah is an obligation upon the slaves and repenting to Allah is from the major and minor sins

Belief that repentance is an obligation is obligatory, repentance from sins is an obligation Allah Lofty and Sublime said:

‘And turn to Allah all of you, Oh believers so that you may be successful.’ (An-Noor Verse 31)

And He said:

‘O you who believe! Turn to Allah with sincere repentance! It may be that your Lord will remit from you your sins’     (At-Tahrim Verse 8)

And He said:

‘And whosoever does not repent then they are from the Dhalimoon(wrongdoers etc)’ (Al-Hujraat Verse 11)

Therefore it is obligatory for the Muslim to repent from his sins and from his evil deeds and it is obligatory that he does not continue upon them or commence upon them or that he is negligent with regards to sins, and he says; ‘this is easy’

Do not be negligent with it for it is from the sins, rather hasten with repentance.

The Most High said:

‘And those who, when they have committed Fahishah (illegal sexual intercourse etc.) or wronged themselves with evil, remember Allah and ask forgiveness for their sins; – and none can forgive sins but Allah – And do not persist in what (wrong) they have done, while they know.

For such, the reward is Forgiveness from their Lord, and Gardens with rivers flowing underneath (Paradise), wherein they shall abide forever. How excellent is this reward for the doers (who do righteous deeds according to Allah’s Orders).’ Aal Imraan (Verses 135-136)

Allah commended them and promised them (those who repent)

He said:

‘’Allah accepts only the repentance of those who do evil in ignorance and foolishness and repent soon afterwards; it is they to whom Allah will forgive and Allah is Ever All-Knower, All-Wise.

And of no effect is the repentance of those who continue to do evil deeds until death faces one of them and he says: “Now I repent;” (An-Nisaa Verse 17-18)

When death arrives the repentance is not accepted and if mankind continues to live then his repentance in the presence of death is (furthermore) not accepted, so upon him is to rush to make repentance and not to delay it. As soon as he commits a sin he repents to Allah immediately.

Man is not infallible and errors occur from him, shortcomings occur from him, sins occur from him; however Allah Lofty and Sublime by way of his mercy has opened the door of repentance. He has opened for you the door of repentance and he calls you to it and he has promised you that He will forgive you if you are truthful in your repentance. So much so that if a disbeliever repents to Allah; Allah forgives him (the sin of) disbelief, Shirk, the killing of people and other than that.  If he repents to Allah He will forgive him. He said:

‘Say to those who have disbelieved if they cease (from disbelief) their past will be forgiven’ (Al-Anfaal Verse 38)

And in the Hadith:

‘Repentance nullifies that which came before it’ (1)

Therefore the Muslim needs to repent, the Messenger [sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam] use to seek forgiveness and repent to Allah more than a hundred times a day.

He [sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam] said:

‘Oh People! Repent to Allah, verily I repent more than seventy times a day’ (Bukhaari)

His companions (radiallaahu anhum) enumerated that in the gatherings he (sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam) would say more than a hundred times:

‘I seek Allah’s forgiveness,I seek Allah’s forgiveness’ (Abu Dawood, Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah)

And he was the Messenger of Allah he (sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam)!

So how about other than him?!

Therefore we need to repent to Allah the Lofty and Sublime, Man is not infallible sins occur from him, shortcomings occur from him, and mistakes occur from him, so he needs to repent.

And all the praises belong to Allah that He has opened the door of repentance for us and He has promised that He will accept (our repentance) and wipe away our sins.

(1)    This Hadith is reported in silsilah da’eefah of Shaykh Al-Albaani however there are several other Hadith with similar meaning such as :

‘’The one who repents from sins is like the one who has no sin’ Ibn Majah Declared Hasan by Shaykh Al Albaani

Golden Advice And Medication For The Heart

Golden Advice And Medication For The Heart

Ibn Abee Haatim(.328H) Rahimahullaah said:

”I entered Damascus and came upon the students of hadeeth, and I passed by the circle of Qaasim al Joo’ee(d.248 AH). I found a group sitting around him and he was speaking. Their appearance amazed me; and I heard him saying:

”Seize The Benefit Of Five Things From The People Of Your Time:

When you are present, you are not known;

When you are absent you are not missed;

When you are seen, your advice is not sought;

When you say something, your saying is not accepted;

And when you have some knowledge, you are not given anything for it.

I Also Advise You With Five Matters:

When you are treated unjustly, do not behave unjustly;

When you are praised, do not become happy;

When you are criticised, do not become upset;

When you are not believed, do not become angry;

And if people act deceitfully towards you, do not act deceitfully towards them.”

Ibn Abee Haatim said:”So I took that as my benefit from Damascus.”
