The Foundation That Will Never Crumble

Allaah [The Most High] said:

Is it then he, who laid the foundation of his building on piety to Allah and His Good Pleasure, better, or he who laid the foundation of his building on an undetermined brink of a precipice ready to crumble down, so that it crumbled to pieces with him into the Fire of Hell. And Allah guides not the people who are wrong doers. [Surah At-Tawbah. Verse 109]

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said,

“Whoever wants their building to be elevated, then it is incumbent to strengthen and fortify its foundation, because the elevation of the building is based on the firmness and fortification of its foundation. Deeds are a building and Eemaan is their foundation. If the foundation is strong, it carries and elevates the building, and if a part of the building is damaged, it is easy for it to bear the (damage); but if the foundation is not firm, then neither will the building be elevated nor will it be firm. And if something from the foundation is damaged, the building will either collapse or come close to that. Therefore, the duty of a knowledgeable is that he (she) makes the foundation sound and fortified. As for the ignorant person, he (or she) elevates (the building) whilst building upon other than a (strong) foundation, so their building does not remain. The foundation of deeds is like the physical strength of a person, if the strength is vigorous, the body will be able to withstand burden and repel many harmful things; but if it is weak, the body’s ability to withstand burden is weakened and harm quickly overcomes the person. Therefore, support your building (i.e. your actions and deeds) with the foundation of Eemaan, because if something from the top of your building decays and falls down, then it would be much easier for the (building) to bear (the damage) rather than the destruction of the foundation. This foundation (i.e. Eemaan) is based on two affairs: first, sound knowledge and awareness of Allaah, His Commandments, Names and Attributes. Second, complete submission to Allaah alone (i.e. by worshipping Allaah alone) and (unconditional obedience to) Allaah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him]. This is the firmest foundation upon which the a servant of Allaah establishes his (or her) building (one’s actions and deeds). Therefore, one solidifies the foundation, preserves its strength and carries on being enthusiastic, and thus what is desired (i.e. success in this life and the next) will be reached”. (1)

Indeed, recently, we hear many people criticizing some Muslim governments for withdrawing from the Convention on Women’s Rights and they portray this withdrawal as a disregard for women’s dignity! However, what one finds is that some Muslim authorities have raised valid concerns that this convention – although its aim should be to eradicate violence against women – interferes with family unity and has been utilized by the LGBT movement to promote their agendas in Muslim societies. [Read more here about the LGBT Movement: https://www.abukhadeejah.com/lgbtq-homosexuality-gay-muslims-and-islam/ ]

Therefore, although Muslim societies must make an exerted effort to preserve the dignity Islam has given women, however one should not allow this to be mixed with the Un-Islamic agendas of outsiders. Muslim authorities have a right to scrutinize these conventions and protect their societies. Imaam As-Sadi [may Allaah have mercy upon him] stated:

“Allaah [The Most High] said: [ ٱلۡيَوۡمَ أَكۡمَلۡتُ لَكُمۡ دِينَكُمۡ وَأَتۡمَمۡتُ عَلَيۡكُمۡ نِعۡمَتِى وَرَضِيتُ لَكُمُ ٱلۡإِسۡلَـٰمَ دِينً۬ا‌ۚ – This day, I have perfected your religion for you, completed My Favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion].

Allaah [The Most High] said: [وَمَنۡ أَحۡسَنُ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ حُكۡمً۬ا لِّقَوۡمٍ۬ يُوقِنُونَ – And who is better in judgement than Allah for a people who have firm Faith].

Whoever utilizes sound intellect to examine what the Messengers brought – what they commanded and guided the people to, such as knowledge and Awareness of Allaah, to worship Allaah alone, turn to Allaah in repentance and obedience with true Faith (Islamic Monotheism) and the command to fulfil all the rights (of the people) based on courteous good will, perfecting one’s actions (i.e. based on sincerity to Allaah alone) and treating others with kindness (by sincerely seeking to benefit them though one’s knowledge, wealth or position), and that which they (i.e. Messengers) forbade; then he examines what the Mul’hidoon [i.e. in this context – those who have completely deviated from right conduct due abandoning the guidance of the Prophets] call to, he will know that good (and its outcomes), success, sound rectification of the hearts and deeds, (sound rectification of) the worldly affairs and (sound rectification of the religious affairs and their end results in the afterlife) are all in agreement with what the Messengers called to. On the other hand, he will know that the call of the Mul’hidoon is designed to do away with good manners, whose end result is nothing but absolute chaos and a state of afairs in which one goes along with lust (or evil desires of the soul) until animals become more noble and beneficial than humans. This is no doubt their state of affairs – clearly manifested by what they are upon and what they proclaim with their tongues. One of the most amazing affairs is that many contemporary writers and politicians seek to remedy the many social ills and try to do so do from many angles, however as for the problem of Il’haad- [i.e. deviation from right conduct due to abandoning the path of the Prophets]– whose surge has carried away the majority of young people, they have not rushed to stop it by returning to sound Eemaan and certainty; rather they have been abandoned to wander blindly in their misguidance and wavering in beguilement, and thus the social ills they seek to remedy give birth to other social ills, because if the path to remedying social ills is not based on Eemaan and sound religion, they will increase and become worse”. (2)

Therefore, when Muslim authorities point out that there are other agendas hidden within these conventions- agendas that threaten the very moral foundation of the Muslim societies, then indeed they have the right to protect their societies based on the Qur’aan and authentic Sunnah, and there is no harm in those customs that are clearly identified as ones that do not contradict the divine revelation, because the religion of Islaam has a perfect solution to every problem and it embraces every virtuous act. As for when one finds us – Muslims – in a state of confusion, then indeed that is either due to deviating from the command of the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] or giving preference to something else. Abu Musa [may Allaah be pleased with him] said that the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said, “My example, and the example of what I have been sent with is that of a man who came to some people and said, ‘O people! I have seen the enemy’s army with my own eyes and I am a plain warner, so protect yourselves!’ Then a group of his people obeyed him and fled at night proceeding stealthily till they were safe, while another group of them disbelieved him and stayed at their places till morning when the army came upon them and killed and ruined them completely. So this is the example of that person who obeys me and follows that truth which I have brought (the Qur’aan and the Sunnah), and the example of the one who disobeys me and disbelieves the Truth I have brought”. (3)

Al-Allaamah Rabee Bin Haadee Al-Madkhalee [may Allaah preserve him] stated, “The Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said, ‘I have left amongst you that which if you hold fast to it, you will never go astray after me: the book of Allah and my Sunnah’. Likewise is the statement of the Prophet, ‘The best speech is the Book of Allaah and the best guidance is the guidance of Muhammad. And the worst of all affairs are the newly invented matters (in the religion) and every innovation is misguidance’. [Reported by Muslim] In the majority of the Prophet’s sermons, he uttered this statement, in order to urge (people) towards adherence to the Book of Allaah and the Sunnah”. (4) He also said, “And just as Allaah commanded His Messenger to follow the revelation and to be guided by it, He also commanded the Ummah to follow the revelation and to be guided by it. Therefore, O Muslims! It is (obligated) on us to (take the) Book of Allaah and the Sunnah of His Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] as a (source of) guidance with truthfulness, sincerity, diligence and determination, and not with wishful thinking; rather we should be truthful to Allaah with regards to holding fast to this Book [i.e. the Qur’aan] and the Sunnah, just as Allaah [Glorified and Exalted be He] said to His slave Yahyah [peace be upon him]: [يَا يَحْيَىٰ خُذِ الْكِتَابَ بِقُوَّةٍ ۖ – O Yahya (John)! Hold fast the Scripture (the Taurat -Torah)]. [Surah Maryam. Verse 12]

Therefore, it is obligated on us to hold onto (the Qur’an) with diligence- neither with a slack nor lackadaisical (attitude) and nor through blameworthy blind following; rather it is obligated on us to ponder upon this Qur’aan just as He [Allaah (The Most High)] stated: [كِتَابٌ أَنزَلْنَاهُ إِلَيْكَ مُبَارَكٌ لِّيَدَّبَّرُوا آيَاتِهِ وَلِيَتَذَكَّرَ أُولُو الْأَلْبَابِ – (This is) a Book (the Qur’an) which We have sent down to you, full of blessings that they may ponder over its Verses, and that men of understanding may remember]. This Qur’aan was sent down to be pondered upon and to acquire (sound) understanding from it. And the one whom Allaah wishes good for, He gives him (or her) understanding in the religion”. (5)

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

And that was Our Proof which We gave Ibrahim (Abraham) against his people. We raise whom We will in degrees. Certainly your Lord is All-Wise, All-Knowing. And We bestowed upon him Ishaque (Isaac) and Ya’qub (Jacob), each of them We guided, and before him, We guided Nuh (Noah), and among his progeny Dawud (David), Sulaiman (Solomon), Ayub (Job), Yusuf (Joseph), Musa (Moses), and Harun (Aaron). Thus do We reward the good-doers. And Zakariya (Zachariya), and Yahya (John) and ‘Iesa (Jesus) and Iliyas (Elias), each one of them was of the righteous. And Isma’il (Ishmael) and Al-Yas’a (Elisha), and Yunus (Jonah) and Lout (Lot), and each one of them We preferred above the ‘Alamin (mankind and jinns) (of their times). And also some of their fathers and their progeny and their brethren, We chose them, and We guided them to a Straight Path. This is the Guidance of Allah with which He guides whomsoever He will of His slaves. But if they had joined in worship others with Allah, all that they used to do would have been of no benefit to them. They are those whom We gave the Book, Al-Hukm (understanding of the religious laws), and Prophethood. But if these disbelieve therein (the Book, Al-Hukm and Prophethood), then, indeed We have entrusted it to a people (such as the Companions of Prophet Muhammad ) who are not disbelievers therein. They are those whom Allah had guided. So follow their guidance. Say: “No reward I ask of you for this (the Qur’an). It is only a reminder for the ‘Alamin (mankind and jinns). [Surah Al-An’aam. Verses 83-90]

Therefore, the above people are the perfect guides amongst humankind [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon them] and Muhammad [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] is the seal of the Prophets. Allaah [The Mighty and Majestic] said:

لَّقَدۡ كَانَ لَكُمۡ فِى رَسُولِ ٱللَّهِ أُسۡوَةٌ حَسَنَةٌ۬ لِّمَن كَانَ يَرۡجُواْ ٱللَّهَ وَٱلۡيَوۡمَ ٱلۡأَخِرَ وَذَكَرَ ٱللَّهَ كَثِيرً۬ا

Indeed in the Messenger of Allah (Muhammad) you have a good example to follow for him who hopes in (the Meeting with) Allah and the Last Day and remembers Allah much. [Surah Al-Ahzaab. Aayah 21]

This noble Aayah – as the people of knowledge have stated – is a basis to established the fact that the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] is to be emulated; but emulating him cannot be actualized except through acquainting oneself with his characteristics, his qualities in general, his specific qualities and deeds by way of which Allaah distinguished him from everyone amongst humankind, his manners and etiquettes. The one who is unacquainted with the Prophet’s [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] characteristics and manners will not be able to emulate him, and that is why the scholars of Islaam have written beneficial books regarding his characteristics and qualities.

The manners and qualities of the Prophet are a means of inviting humankind to this mighty religion of Islaam. Indeed, many people- during his era and thereafter – have been guided through their acquaintance with his manners and qualities. One used to come to him whilst harbouring the severest hatred towards him, but after meeting him and observing his great (unmatched noble) etiquettes, noble manners, lofty dealings and benevolence, the person would depart whilst loving him more than everyone else on the face of the earth. Therefore, his characteristics are a means to calling to this religion- an evidence for the one inviting the people in the path of Allaah.
Speaking about his qualities, emulating him and calling others to emulate him strengthens the religion of Islaam, because he was the one whom Allaah appointed to convey and explain the religion to humankind. Allaah chose him and he is the best of all the slaves of Allaah- the greatest in his servitude to Allaah. Calling the people to emulate his qualities is a means to calling people to believe in the religion ordained by Allaah and a means to strengthening the belief of the one who has already believed in his Messenger-ship. This is why turning away from his Seerah has been the cause of people’s inclination towards the path of losers amongst men and women [i.e. those upon a path other than the path of Allaah]. As for the biographies of the Imaams of Guidance- the greatest of them being the Messenger, they are a means of rectifying the person and a means to safety from corruption and evil. On the other hand, the biography of the losers is a path that will lead to evil, ruin and corruption. Allaah [The Mighty and Majestic] said:

Indeed My Verses used to be recited to you, but you used to turn back on your heels [denying them, and with hatred to listen to them]. In pride [they Quraish pagans and polytheists of Makkah used to feel proud that they are the dwellers of Makkah sanctuary Haram], talking evil about it [the Qur’an] by night. Have they not pondered over the Word [of Allaah, i.e. what is sent down to the Prophet], or has there come to them what had not come to their fathers of old? Or is it that they did not recognize their Messenger [Muhammad] so they deny him? [i.e. this is a rebuke against them because all of them – young and old – knew his lineage, truthfulness and trustworthiness, yet they turned away from his message]. [Surah Al-Muminoon. Verses 66-69]

This shows that contemplating on the Qur’aan and acquainting oneself with the Messenger’s guidance and biography is a path leading to safety, and a safeguard against turning back on one’s heels [i.e. a safeguard against turning away from the guidance he was sent with]. On the other hand, abandoning the Seerah of the Prophet and inclining towards the biography of the losers [i.e. those men and women upon other than the guidance of the Messenger] will lead to ruin. The people became corrupted – in this era – after being put to trial through movies and films; but had they turned to the biographies of the Prophets and the noble companions of the Prophet Muhammad, they would have found guidance and a path leading to steadfastness.(1)

Studying the prophet’s biography (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)and reading it strengthens the certainty, steadfastness and perseverance of the believer upon the religion of Allah stronger- makes the believer’s heart honourable due to Islam, ennobled by (through sound) Islamic monotheism, ennobled due to what the heart contains of knowledge and awareness of Allah, belief in Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and that which Allah sent down upon his Messengers. Allaah said:

[وَلِلَّهِ الْعِزَّةُ وَلِرَسُولِهِ وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ – But honour, power and glory belong to Allah, His Messenger (Muhammad), and to the believers]. These are from the many benefits that every believer benefit from by studying the biography of The Chosen One (المصطفى). (2)

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

Whosoever desires honour, then to Allah belong all honour. To Him ascend (all) the goodly words, and the righteous deeds exalt it (the goodly words i.e. the goodly words are not accepted by Allah unless and until they are followed by good deeds), but those who plot evils, theirs will be severe torment. And the plotting of such will perish. [Surah Al-Faatir. Verse 10]

[مَن كَانَ يُرِيدُ الْعِزَّةَ فَلِلَّهِ الْعِزَّةُ جَمِيعًا – Whosoever desires honour then to Allah belong all honour, power and glory]- Meaning, let him seek it through sincere obedience to Allaah, because indeed he will not find it except through obedience to Allaah. Some of the pious predecessors used to supplicate: [اللهم اعزني بطاعتك ولا تذلني بمعصيتك – O Allaah! Grant me honour through obedience to you and do not humiliate me through disobedience to you].

Therefore, whoever seeks honour, then let him seek it through sincere obedience to Allaah by way of uttering good speech and righteous deeds. (2.1)

O you the one who wants honour! Seek it from the one in whose hand it, because indeed honour is in Allaah’s Hand and cannot be attained except through obedience to Allaah. And Allaah has mentioned this in His statement: [إِلَيْهِ يَصْعَدُ الْكَلِمُ الطَّيِّبُ-To Him ascend (all) the goodly words]- Meaning, such as recitation of the Qur’an, utterance of Subhaanallaah, Alhamdulil laah and Laa Ilaaha illal laah. All good speech ascend to Allaah and is presented to Him, and Allaah praises the one who uttered it. The righteous deeds also ascend to Him – the deeds of the heart and the limbs. Allaah raises the status of a person and honours him by these righteous deeds that ascend to Him.
As for evil deeds, they are the opposite. The perpetrator wants to be raised by way of them, plots and plans, but this will haunt him and he is not increased except in ignominy and degradation. This is why Allaah said:

وَالْعَمَلُ الصَّالِحُ يَرْفَعُهُ ۚ وَالَّذِينَ يَمْكُرُونَ السَّيِّئَاتِ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ شَدِيدٌ ۖ وَمَكْرُ أُولَٰئِكَ هُوَ يَبُورُ

And the righteous deeds exalt it (the goodly words i.e. the goodly words are not accepted by Allah unless and until they are followed by good deeds), but those who plot evils, theirs will be severe torment. [وَمَكْرُ أُولَٰئِكَ هُوَ يَبُورُ-And the plotting of such will perish] – Meaning, destroyed and annihilated. It will not benefit them in anything because they plotted by way of falsehood and for the sake of falsehood.(2.2)

Allaah [The Exalted] stated about the Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him]: [مَا ضَلَّ صَاحِبُكُمۡ وَمَا غَوَىٰ-Your companion (Muhammad) has neither gone astray nor has erred]. That is because the Daal (misguided person) is one whose knowledge is corrupted and the Ghaawiy (astray one) is the one whose intent is corrupted. Also, the Prophet described his four khulafaa [Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthmaan and Ali (may Allaah be pleased with them)] with the words ‘Raashideen and Mahdiyyeen’, because the Raashid [i.e. The one who is steadfast upon the right path and is firmly established upon it] is the opposite of the Ghaawiy [The one who strays from the right path or conduct], and the Mahdee [The one guided to the path of truth and yeilds obediently to it] is the opposite of the Daalun [the misguided one, especially in knowledge and creed]. (3)

Therefore, this suffices the believer as a guide in every place, era and in all circumstances, even though many ideologues constantly seek to replace this path of the Prophets with something else. Shaikh Amjad Rafiq – Abu Iyaad [may Allaah preserve him] stated, “We are living in a time in which the League of Iblees have a frightening grip and amazing amount of resources and means through which waves and waves of assaults are maintained against faith (eemaan), and against tawhid (monotheism), and against the morality that is based upon revelation (as opposed to the “do what thou wilt” of secular humanism), and against the family unit and its bonds (husband-wife, child-parent). And so it is necessary for the Muslims to beware and take extreme caution against the waves upon waves of such assaults that are being made from all directions, the aim of which is to desecrate the foundations of faith, and to desecrate the Prophets of Allaah, in particular Jesus, the Son of Mary (peace be upon them both) and to replace the foundations of faith with a “new age spirituality” which is nothing “new” at all, but comes from none other than Iblees himself and is but the same deception that Iblees used to make Adam err, which is the promise of immortality and eternity, and this is the core, underlying principle of the “new age spirituality” in all of its flavours and manifestations. Further, the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wasallam) warned that there would be many dajjaals (liars) in the later times. Such liars and imposters claim divinity or prophethood, and preach a religion other than that preached by the Prophets and Messengers, such as Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus and Mohammad (peace be upon all of them). For this reason, given the huge amount of propaganda disseminated through the great many forms of media in the modern age, it is necessary for Muslims to be well-informed about the plots of Iblees his deception and misguiding of the people through their army of devils amongst Jinn and men, all of whom refer to Iblees, spuriously, as “the light bearer”. The meaning of the word “Dajjaal” linguistically means “a great liar, deceiver”, and signifies great deception and lies. As such, all magicians and soothsayers are also referred to as “dajjaals”, because they lie and deceive. Hence, we will also be discussing magic and its practitioners on this site as they come under the general meaning of “dajal” (deceit, trickery, deception)”. (4) Read this article: The Role of Television in Social Engineering, Predictive Programming, Culture Creation and Destruction of Children and Society: http://www.dajjaal.com/liar/articles/xsxpr-the-role-of-television-in-social-engineering-predictive-programming-and-destruction-of-children-and-society.cfm

Indeed, what Shaikh Abu Iyaad [may Allaah preserve him] stated above is the truth because we are all well aware of the manner in which many ideologues have attempted – in different eras – to replace the path of the Prophets through their concocted political ideologies, theories, slogans and leaderships. Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “The difference between the desire for righteous leadership as opposed to merely desiring leadership: It is the difference between exalting the command of Allaah and being sincere to Allaah as opposed to love of exalting oneself and hastening towards the fulfilment of desires. Indeed the one who is sincere to Allaah and exalts Him, he loves that his Lord is obeyed and not disobeyed; [loves that] Allaah’s Word should be uppermost and that all affairs of the religion should be established sincerely for the sake of Allaah, and that the servants should obey Allaah’s commands and keep away from what Allaah has forbidden. He is sincere in his servitude to Allaah and sincere to Allaah’s creation in calling them to the path of Allaah. So he loves to be [an upright] leader in the religion; rather he asks his Lord to make him from the leaders of the righteous people who are followed, just as he is a follower of the righteous. Therefore, if this servant -[i.e. this person] who calls to Allaah- loves that he is considered dignified in the eyes [of the people], revered and beloved in their hearts and is one followed amongst them, so that he is trusted by them and they follow the example of the Messenger through him, then this [desire of his] does not harm him; rather he is praised for it. That is because the caller to Allaah loves that Allaah is obeyed and singled out in worship. He loves to be a means by way of which [people] are aided to [obey Allaah, single out Allaah in worship and follow the Messenger]. And due to this, [when] Allaah mentioned those chosen slaves of His- whom He praised in His revelation and will grant the best of reward on the day they meet Him- He mentioned them with the best of their deeds and characteristics, and then said:

[ وَٱلَّذِينَ يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَا هَبۡ لَنَا مِنۡ أَزۡوَٲجِنَا وَذُرِّيَّـٰتِنَا قُرَّةَ أَعۡيُنٍ۬ وَٱجۡعَلۡنَا لِلۡمُتَّقِينَ إِمَامًا – And those who say: “Our Lord! Bestow on us from our wives and our offspring who will be the comfort of our eyes, and make us leaders for the (pious)].

So they ask Allaah to grant them the comfort of the eye by making their wives and offspring obedient to Allaah, and to grant them happiness in their hearts due to being followed by the righteous in obedience and servitude to Allaah. That is because a trustworthy leader in the religion co-operates with [others] upon obedience [to Allaah and His Messenger], and that is to call them to [sound] leadership in the religion, whose foundation is patience and certainty, as Allaah [The Most High] said: [ وَجَعَلۡنَا مِنۡہُمۡ أَٮِٕمَّةً۬ يَہۡدُونَ بِأَمۡرِنَا لَمَّا صَبَرُواْ‌ۖ وَڪَانُواْ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا يُوقِنُونَ – And We made from among them (Children of Israel), leaders, giving guidance under Our Command, when they were patient and used to believe with certainty in Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). [32:24]
Therefore, in their supplication -[in Soorah Al-Furqaan Ayah 74]- to Allaah that He makes them leaders of the righteous people, is that Allaah guides them, grants them success, bless them with beneficial knowledge and righteous actions–outwardly and inwardly–without which [sound] leadership in the religion cannot be achieved. This is different from [merely] seeking leadership, for indeed its seekers hasten to obtain it in order to achieve their goals, [such as] exaltedness in the earth; enslavement of the hearts to them, attachment to them and aiding them in all their goals, whilst they are exalted and everyone subservient to them. This pursuit of leadership brings about corruption-which none can enumerate except Allaah- such as rebellion, envy, transgression, enmity, oppression, trials, being ardent in defending oneself at the expense of violating the rights of Allaah, exalting those despised by Allaah and belittling those honoured by Allaah”. (4.1)

And when a replacement of the path of the Prophets is not pursued through ideology, it is pursued through celebrity Journalism. Some people are obsessed and infatuated with so called celebrities and some journalists are here to feed this habit through which they can sell their stories as well as satisfy advertisers. We’ve all heard how some people are so obsessed or infatuated with so called celebrities to the extent that they devote ample time to acquaint themselves with the details of the personal lives of such people, whether that is an author, a politician, actor or musician. Even if those afflicted with this disease are very few, however it does not divert us from the fact that the goal and aim of some of these journalists is to divert humankind from the path of the Prophets and Messengers- the only perfect guides in every era and in all aspects of life until the Day of Judgement. They know that humans – regardless wherever they live – will always look up to others, so they manipulate this natural desire for a role model to divert them from the path of Allaah by attaching the hearts of the masses to others. As for the believers, their hearts are not diverted, rather they are filled with love of Allaah [The Mighty and Majestic], as Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah [may Allaah have mercy upon him] stated, “If the heart loves Allaah and devotes all the religion sincerely to Allaah, it will not give a share of this love to anyone else, let alone being afflicted with infatuation; but when afflicted with infatuation, then that is due to its deficient love of Allaah. This is why due to Yoosuf’s [peace be upon him] love of Allaah and him sincerely devoting all the religion to Allaah alone, he did not depart from it; rather Allaah said: [ڪَذَٲلِكَ لِنَصۡرِفَ عَنۡهُ ٱلسُّوٓءَ وَٱلۡفَحۡشَآءَ‌ۚ إِنَّهُ ۥ مِنۡ عِبَادِنَا ٱلۡمُخۡلَصِينَ – Thus it was, that We might turn away from him evil and illegal sexual intercourse. Surely, he was one of Our chosen, guided slaves]. But as for the wife of the Azeez, she and her people were polytheists, and due to this she was afflicted with infatuation (or obsession)”.(5)

He also said, “Those people whose hearts are infatuated with images are to receive the greatest punishment and the smallest reward, because if the heart of the one who is infatuated with images continues to be attached and is enslaved by it, then various types of evils, loss and corruption will be gathered for him, which none can enumerate except Allaah. And even if he is safe from committing a major lewd act, the continuous attachment of the heart to the image without committing a lewd act is a greater than the harm that afflicts a person who commits a sin and then repents and thus the effect of that sin ceases to exist in his heart. The greatest aspect of this calamity is when the heart turns away from Allaah, because indeed when the heart tastes the worship of Allaah and sincerity to Him, there will never be anything more sweet than that- neither more tasty and enjoyable nor better. A person does not abandon something beloved to him except due to another beloved thing which is more beloved to him or due to fearing harm. The heart is turned away from a corrupt love by an upright love or due to fearing harm. Allaah [The Exalted] said about Yusuf [alayhis salaam]:

[ڪَذَٲلِكَ لِنَصۡرِفَ عَنۡهُ ٱلسُّوٓءَ وَٱلۡفَحۡشَآءَ‌ۚ إِنَّهُ ۥ مِنۡ عِبَادِنَا ٱلۡمُخۡلَصِينَ – Thus it was, that We might turn away from him evil and illegal sexual intercourse. Surely, he was one of Our chosen, guided slaves. [Surah Yusuf. Aayah 24] So, Allaah turned His servant away from that which would plunge one into evil due to inclining towards an image and being attached to it, and turns him away from lewd conduct due to his sincerity to Allaah. This is why this can occur before a person tastes the sweetness of servitude to Allaah and sincerity to Him – when one is overcome by his soul through following its (evil) desires; however when one tastes the sweetness of sincerity to Allaah and his heart becomes strong, it subdues its desires without the great remedy (needed for) rectification”.(6)

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “Hearts that are emptied of Love for Allaah -hearts that are turned away from Him and seeking remedy from others besides Him- are afflicted with an infatuation with images; for when the heart is filled with Love of Allaah and a strong love for meeting Him [i.e. in the hereafter], this infatuation with images is repelled from it. And for this reason, Allaah [The Most High] stated about Yusuf [peace be upon him]: [كَذَٰلِكَ لِنَصْرِفَ عَنْهُ السُّوءَ وَالْفَحْشَاءَ ۚ إِنَّهُ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا الْمُخْلَصِينَ -Thus it was, that We might turn away from him evil and illegal sexual intercourse. Surely, he was one of Our chosen, guided slaves]. This shows that sincerity to [Allaah] is a means to repelling [evil]. And because of this, some of the pious predcessors said: ‘’Infatuation is an agitation in empty hearts.” Meaning: [Hearts] emptied of other than what they crave for”. (7)

He [may Allaah have mercy upon him] also said, “The basis of all sins – major and minor – are three: the heart’s attachment to other than Allaah, going along with the intense strength of one’s anger and the intense urge of one’s desires. These three affairs constitute shirk, injustice and indecency. Shirk and invoking other than Allaah is the ultimate affair related to the heart’s attachment to other than Allaah, murder is the ultimate affair related to going along with one’s intense anger and fornication is the ultimate affair related to going along with the intense urge of one’s desires. And because this Allaah mentioned the three together in the [following] verse:

وَٱلَّذِينَ لَا يَدۡعُونَ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَـٰهًا ءَاخَرَ وَلَا يَقۡتُلُونَ ٱلنَّفۡسَ ٱلَّتِى حَرَّمَ ٱللَّهُ إِلَّا بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَلَا يَزۡنُونَ

And those who invoke not any other ilah (god) along with Allah, nor kill such life as Allah has forbidden, except for just cause, nor commit illegal sexual intercourse. [Surah Al-Furqaan. Verse 68]

These three affairs invite to one another – Shirk inevitably leads to injustice and indecency, just as Tawheed [sound Islamic Monotheism] and Ikhlaas [sincerity] turns a person away from them. Allaah [The Exalted] stated [about Prophet Yusuf (peace be upon him)]:

ڪَذَٲلِكَ لِنَصۡرِفَ عَنۡهُ ٱلسُّوٓءَ وَٱلۡفَحۡشَآءَ‌ۚ إِنَّهُ ۥ مِنۡ عِبَادِنَا ٱلۡمُخۡلَصِينَ

Thus it was, that We might turn away from him evil and indecency. Surely, he was one of Our chosen, guided slaves. [Surah Yusuf. Aayah 24] – Meaning, turned him away from infatuation and illegal sexual intercourse.

Likewise, injustice inevitably leads to Shirk and indecency, because Shirk is the greatest injustice, just as Tawheed is the greatest justice. Justice is a companion of Tawheed and injustice is a companion of Shirk, and this is why Allaah mentioned both together.

As for Tawheed and justice, Allaah said: [شَهِدَ ٱللَّهُ أَنَّهُ ۥ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ وَٱلۡمَلَـٰٓٮِٕكَةُ وَأُوْلُواْ ٱلۡعِلۡمِ قَآٮِٕمَۢا بِٱلۡقِسۡطِ – Allah bears witness that Laa ilaaha illaa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He), and the angels, and those having knowledge (also give this witness); (He is always) maintaining His creation in Justice]. [Surah Aal Imraan. Verse 18]

As for injustice and Shirk, Allaah said: إِنَّ ٱلشِّرۡكَ لَظُلۡمٌ عَظِيمٌ۬ – Verily, Shirk is great injustice]. [Surah Luqmaan. Aayah 13]

Indecency leads to Shirk and Injustice, especially when there is a strong desire which cannot be reached except through some type of injustice, such as seeking help through magic and shaytaan. And indeed Allaah mentioned both fornication and Shirk together in the Aayah: [ٱلزَّانِى لَا يَنكِحُ إِلَّا زَانِيَةً أَوۡ مُشۡرِكَةً۬ وَٱلزَّانِيَةُ لَا يَنكِحُهَآ إِلَّا زَانٍ أَوۡ مُشۡرِكٌ۬‌ۚ وَحُرِّمَ ذَٲلِكَ عَلَى ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ – The adulterer marries not but an adulteress, or a female polytheist and the adulteress none marries her except an adulterer or a male polytheist [and that means that the man who agrees to marry (have a sexual relation with) a female polytheist, pagan or idolatress) or a prostitute, then surely he is either an adulterer, or a polytheist)]. And the woman who agrees to marry (have a sexual relation with) a male polytheist or an adulterer, then she is either a prostitute or a female polytheist)]. Such a thing is forbidden to the believers [of Islamic Monotheism]. [Surah An-Noor. Aayah 3]

These three affairs [i.e. Shirk, Indecency and Injustice] can either be the cause of one another or inevitably lead to one another. And this is why whenever Tawheed in the heart is weaker and the Shirk in it is greater, it commits more indecency, becomes stronger in its attachment to images and infatuated with them. And what is similar to this is the statement of Allaah:

So whatever you have been given is but a passing enjoyment for this worldly life, but that which is with Allah (Paradise) is better and more lasting for those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah Islamic Monotheism) and put their trust in their Lord (concerning all of their affairs). And those who avoid the greater sins and indecency, and when they are angry, they forgive. [Surah Ash-Shooraa. Aayaat 36-37]

Allaah informed us that what He has with Him is better for the one who believes in Him and relies upon him, and that is Tawheed. Then Allaah said: [وَٱلَّذِينَ يَجۡتَنِبُونَ كَبَـٰٓٮِٕرَ ٱلۡإِثۡمِ وَٱلۡفَوَٲحِشَ – And those who avoid the greater sins and indecency – Meaning, avoid the intense urge towards lowly desires].

Then Allaah said: [وَإِذَا مَا غَضِبُواْ هُمۡ يَغۡفِرُونَ – And when they are angry, they pardon]. This opposes the intense strength of anger; so Allaah mentioned Tawheed, pardon and justice together, and they are that which gathers every good”. (8)

Finally, we should Allaah to protect our hearts and supplicate saying:

[اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ حُبَّكَ وَحُبَّ مَنْ يُحِبُّكَ وَحُبَّ عَمَلٍ يُقَرِّبُنِي إِلَى حُبِّكَ

O Allaah! I ask You for Your love and the love of those who love you, and love of the deeds that will bring me close to Your love]. (9)

132 Years Ago a Liar Called Mirza Ghulam (Figurehead of The Qadiyaanees) Appeared With His Call to Disbelief! [Al-Allaamah Rabee Bin Haadee al-Madkhalee Mentions Mirza Ghulam and His Ilk Amongst The Great Liars And Callers to Falsehood]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Al-Allaamah Rabee Bin Haadee Al-Madkhalee [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said:

Amongst the different types of liars are the Dajaajilah [i.e. those whose lies are accompanied with deception, beatification of the lies and tricks to convince the people], whom the Prophet [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] spoke about, and reality testifies to the truthfulness of that which this noble Messenger stated, because he never speaks out of his own desire. He [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] said: “The hour will not be established until two big groups fight each other whereupon there will be a great number of casualties on both sides and they will be following one and the same religious doctrine, and until about thirty Dajjaals and liars appear, and each one of them will claim that he is Allaah’s Messenger, and until sound religious knowledge is taken away [i.e. due to death of rightly guided scholars], earthquakes will increase in number and time will pass quickly”. [Saheeh Al-Bukhaari] The testimony in this hadeeth is the statement of the Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam], “Until about thirty Dajjaals and liars appear, and each one of them will claim that he is Allaah’s Messenger”. The Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] said, “During the close approach of the hour there will be liars, so beware of them”.

Unfortunately, many people do not take this Prophetic advice in order to be cautious of the liars. There is a long hadeeth narrated by Thawbaan [radiyallaahu-anhu] from Allaah’s Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam], who said, “What I fear for you the most is the leaders of misguidance” until he said, “Indeed, there will be thirty liars in my Ummah and each of them will claim that he is a Prophet, but I am the seal of the Prophets and there no Prophet after me”.

The greatest trial will be that of the greatest Dajjaaj whom all the Prophets warned against, and the one who warned against him the most was our Prophet [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam]. The narrations regarding this are Mutawaatir and its affair is well-known amongst the Muslim, but despite this Allaah’s Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] stated that there is one more dangerous for the Ummah than Dajjaaj. Sam’aan [radiyallaahu-anhu] said, “Allaah’s Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] mentioned Dajjal, one morning, as something despised but also alarming, until we thought that he was in the stand of date-palm trees. When we came to Allaah’s Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] in the evening, he saw that (fear) in us, and said, ‘What is the matter with you?’ We said, ‘O Messenger of Allaah! You mentioned Dajjaal this morning, and you spoke of him as something despised but also alarming, until we thought that he was in the stand of date-palm trees’. He said, ‘There are things that I fear more for you than the Dajjaal. If he appears while I am among you, I will contend with him on your behalf, and if he appears when I am not among you, then each man must fend for himself, and Allaah will take care of every Muslim on my behalf’”. [Saheeh Muslim 2933]

Amongst these Dajjaals – liars – whom Allaah’s Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] warned against was Musaylimah the Liar at Yamaamah and Al-Aswad Al-Unsee who claimed prophethood, and as a result many Arabs exited Islaam; so Allaah destroyed them and others were destroyed, and their trial was ended by way of the swords of the companions of Allaah’s Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam].

And amongst the liars who claimed prophethood was Mukhtaar Bin Abee Ubayd Ath-Thaqafee, the liar about whom the Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] stated, “A liar will appear from Thaqeef a blood shedder”. [Saheeh Muslim 2545] The liar was Al-Mukhtaar and the blood shedder was al-Hajjaaj.

And from those who claimed prophethood was Al-Haarith the liar, and Ghulaam Ahmad Al-Qadiyaanee Al-Hindee who had followers dispersed in the world and they claim that Prophethood is still ongoing. Every liar has other wicked liars connected to him – those similar to their Shaikh.

And from these liars in general was the Yahoodee, the wicked Abdullah Ibn Saba, who falsely claimed to be Muslim and incited many of the rabble against the Rightly Guided Khaleefah Uthmaan Bin Affaan [radiyallaahu-anhu] until he was martyred in that trial. He is the founder of the doctrine of the Raafidha Shiites and its filthy principles, and exaggeration regarding the status of the Prophet’s family until they deified them. Many of them declare Ali [radiyallaahu-anhu] an object of worship and many of them say that Ali is the one whom the Prophet gave the authority of rulership after him. This is from their lies; and that Ali [radiyallaahu-anhu] will return to do such and such, meaning, he will kill AbuBakr [radiyallaahu-anhu], Umar [radiyallaahu-anhu] and five-hundred Khulafaa of Banee Umayyyah and Banee Abbaas. This wicked one [i.e. Ibn Saba] initiated the act of revilement against the companions of the Prophet and other affairs related to the trial he initiated which the heretics promote and are firmly established upon, as well as the figureheads of the Raafidha- the liars; so they fill the world with lies and slanders. Their religion is established on lies and misguidance.

And from those Dajjaals – liars – are the figureheads of bidah and misguidance, such as Jahm Bin Safwaan, the figureheads of the Khawaarij, the Mutazilah, the Huloolee Soofees and grave worshippers, such as Nidhaam Al-Mutazilee, Hallaaj the heretic, Ibn Arabi the heretic, Ibn Sab’een, At-Tilimsaanee and other than them amongst the heretics – liars who hid within Islaam, infiltrators within the ranks of the people of Tasawwuf, because the people of Tasawwuf were a fertile ground for these types of people amongst the heretics, just as the Raafidha are a spacious room for the heretics. See here: https://salaficentre.com/2019/04/a-brief-acquaintance-with-some-of-the-early-heretics-who-sought-to-corrupt-the-deen-and-failed-abdullah-bin-sabah-al-faraabee-ibn-sinaa-naseer-attoosee-and-others/

Amongst the liars in this era are the figureheads of the political groups, such as the secularists and Baathists [Arab Nationalists], and many of the people who carry alluring slogans in the name of Islaam, such as Islamic socialism, Islamic democracy, the call to unity of religions and many other misguided claims made in the name of Islaam (Ref 1). This takes place amongst groups who claim that they are seeking to raise Islaam very high and that they are established to return the Islamic Ummah to its past glory; however they increase the people in misguidance and darkness, and Allaah’s Refuge is sought. This poses a more severe danger to the people and the youth, therefore it is obligated on the Muslims and the students of knowledge to be extremely cautious of all these types of people, warn the Muslims against their plots and plans, and unveil their secrets. The Elephant In The Room – [Food For Thought For Those Europeans Who Vilify Believing Women When They Wear layers of Clothes]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

“When Europeans came to North America, the thing they said about the native Americans was that they were so barbaric, because they walked around naked. The European women were wearing three layers of clothes. Then they came to North America, and decided that the native Americans were backward because they all walked around naked. And now, we walk around naked, and we say that the Muslims are backward because they wear so much clothes”.

Shaikh Abdul Waahid- abu Khadeejah [may Allaah preserve him] stated:

Both men and women are expected to show modesty in the clothes they wear. Women are expected to dress in a way that shows they are believing women. The Qur’ān instructs the Prophet, “Tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to wrap their outer garments (the jilbāb) around themselves. That is more suitable so that they will be known as pious women, and not be harassed.” (Al-Ahzāb 33:59)

Women are also told not to display their finery. This means that the dress is meant to protect the wearer from harassment and to prevent one from becoming obsessed with pride in one’s outward appearance. It is also a way Muslims can develop a society that respects the boundaries between men and women. In this way each person is judged for their piety, honesty, hard work and values, not mere outward beauty and fashion consciousness. Many Muslim women completely conceal themselves in a ‘jilbāb’ (outer garment covering them from their head to their feet), along with gloves, and a face veil (niqāb) that allows only the eyes to be seen. All of this is from Islam. However, not all of it is obligatory. The gloves and face veil are not obligations but recommendations, and most women choose not to wear them.

So the hijāb is the Islamic practice of preventing women from being seen by men except by their closest male relatives (referred to as mahrams). Men are not allowed to shake hands with women unless they are closely related to them, such as one’s wife, daughter, paternal aunt, maternal aunt, sister, etc.

Some Muslims wrongly believe that the hijāb is a cultural practice rather than a religious one. They are very much mistaken because Allāh has instructed the women, “and they are to draw their veils (khumur) over their heads and chests (juyūb) and not to reveal their beauty except to their husbands, their fathers, their husband’s fathers, their sons, their husband’s sons, their brothers or their brother’s sons, or their sister’s sons…” (An-Nūr 24:31)

The crucial words in this verse are: وَلْيَضْرِبْنَ بِخُمُرِهِنَّ عَلَىٰ جُيُوبِهِنَّ

In Arabic: wal-yadribna clearly proves that this is a command (due to the lām of command) so it means: “and they are to draw their veils…” The word Allāh uses in this verse for veil is Khimār (pl. khumur). The meaning of this word in the Arabic language is: scarf or veil. The jurist, linguist, scholar of the Arabic grammar and Quran, Shaikh Ibn Uthaimīn said, “It is a cloth with which a woman covers her head.” (Tafsīr Surah An-Nūr, p. 167). The Quranic Scholar, Al-Baghawī (died 516AH) stated, “The term juyūb (sing. jayb) in this verse refers to their chests, hair, necks and ears.” (3/289) Shaikh Ibn Uthaimīn also said, “The Quranic scholars have said it means that they are to cover their heads, necks, and chests with a scarf.” (p. 168)

Allah instructed the men, “To lower their gaze from looking at women with desire other than their wives, and to protect themselves from fornication. That is purer for them.” (An-Nūr 24:30) Men are commanded to dress modestly in loose garments that do not reveal what is between their navel and knees. All lower garments such as trousers or long shirts (i.e. thawb) must be above the ankles just as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has commanded, “What is below the ankles of a lower garment will be in the Fire.” (Reported by Al-Bukhārī, no. 793) And he said, “The lower garment of the believer should come to the mid-calf, but there is no sin on him if it comes between that point and the ankle. But whatever is lower than the ankle is in the Fire.” And he said three times, “Allah will not look at the one who lets his lower garment drag on the floor out of vanity.” (Reported by Ibn Mājah, no. 3704) https://www.abukhadeejah.com/understanding-the-muslim-dress-code-modesty-for-men-and-the-hijab-for-women-islam-4-5/

The above clarification by Shaikh Abu Khadeejah [may Allaah preserve him] is very clear and this is modesty obligated on all believers. So, we say to some of those who seek to vilify believing women, “Do you not recall your history when your forefathers arrived in America? One of your writers stated as follows, ‘When Europeans came to North America, the thing they said about the native Americans was that they were so barbaric, because they walked around naked. The European women were wearing three layers of clothes. Then they came to North America, and decided that the native Americans were backward because they all walked around naked. And now, we walk around naked, and we say that the Muslims are backward because they wear so much clothes. Can you imagine anything more barbaric? Banning women wearing head scarfs?'”

Therefore, brothers and sisters, this above statement of a non-Muslim reminds us of three affairs:

First, it reminds us of the Allaah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] statement that there will be women who will be dressed but naked. [Saheeh Muslim 2128]

Second, we should ask Allah to grant us the guidance and ability to adhere to everything we have been commanded in the divine revelation and that we do not follow any custom that opposes it. Imaam Al-Albaanee [may Allaah have mercy upon him] stated regarding his discussion with a priest: “Within the perfection of Islam is that it laid down rulings and divine legislation in order for Muslims to preserve their Islamic personality and are not to wasted away (or ruined)– in any era – through the (Un-Islamic] personality of another nation. The scholars who deal with the subject matters of Ijmaa (consensus) say that any society that wants to preserve their personality must preserve their traditions, history and language, and this is an indisputable affair to them in the knowledge (or subject matter) related to consensus. So, I told him that one of the virtues of Islam and the perfection of its legislation is that it has legislated for the Muslims to preserve their Muslim personality and not to imitate those who are in opposition [to their identity (i.e. identity judged to be un-Islamic by the divine revelation)]; rather they should aim to be in opposition to the path of those who are in opposition to their identity. (1)

Imaam Abdul Azeez Bin Baaz [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “It is obligated on every Muslim that he does not depend on custom; rather he presents it to the pure Islamic legislation (to be judged), so whatever the Islamic legislation affirms is permissible and whatever it does not affirm is impermissible. The customs of the people are not proof to determine the lawfulness of anything. All the customs of the people in their countries or tribes must be presented to the Book of Allaah and the Sunnah of His Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] for judgement, so whatever Allaah and His Messenger made permissible is permissible, and whatever they forbid, then it is obligatory to abandon it even if it is the custom of the people”. (2)

Imaam Muhammad Bin Saaleh Al-Uthaymeen [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “The customs cannot make something that is not legislated (in the divine revelation) as something legislated, because of Allaah’s statement: [وَلَيۡسَ ٱلۡبِرُّ بِأَن تَأۡتُواْ ٱلۡبُيُوتَ مِن ظُهُورِهَا – It is not Al-Birr (piety, righteousness, etc.) that you enter the houses from the back] [Surah Al-Baqarah. Aayah 189], despite the fact that it was something they took as their custom and considered it to be an act of righteousness. Whoever takes something as a custom and believes that it is an act of righteousness, then it should be presented to Allaah’s divine legislation [i.e. to be judged]”. (3)

Imaam Muhammad Bin Saaleh Al-Uthaymeen [may Allaah have mercy upon him] also said, “Extremism in related to customs is stringent adherence to old customs and not diverting to what is better than them. As for if the customs are equal in benefit [i.e. the ones judged to be permissible by the divine legislation], then a person remaining upon what he is upon would be better than going along with the new (or emerging) customs”. (4)

Finally, it is absolutely clear that those who seek to vilify female believers for wearing layers of clothes desire nothing else but corruption – a corruption they seek to portray as progress, freedom and liberty. Imaam Abdul Azeez Bin Baaz [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said: They seek to conquer the intellects of the Muslim children and nurture their hearts upon their views, either by making them feel that their ways are superior in every affair-be it in affairs of creed and religion, or that which they speak with by way of languages, or what they consider to be civilized manners, customs etc.. They seek to nurture a great number of Muslims in the Muslim lands until they are intoxicated with their views and return them to their lands. Then they start praising and promoting them until they become the figureheads in their countries. So they spread their ideas through these people…etc They encourage the Muslims in the Muslim lands to learn their languages at the expense of the Arabic language, which is the language of the Qur’aan- the language by way of which the Muslims perform their acts of worship. They also establish many studies that are intended to cause nuisance and glorify what they call popular literature and national heritage…..etc They prepare a large number of people amongst their people to study Islam and the Arabic language and write books, and take up teaching positions in universities- orientalists….etc They also spread propaganda that Muslim women in the Muslim lands are oppressed in order to take them out of their homes and place them where they want. But Allaah (The Most High) said:

يَا أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ قُلْ لِأَزْوَاجِكَ وَبَنَاتِكَ وَنِسَاءِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ يُدْنِينَ عَلَيْهِنَّ مِنْ جَلابِيبِهِنَّ ذَلِكَ أَدْنَى أَنْ يُعْرَفْنَ فَلا يُؤْذَيْنَ وَكَانَ اللَّهُ غَفُورًا رَحِيمًا

O Prophet! Tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks (veils) all over their bodies. That will be better, that they should be known (as free respectable women) so as not to be annoyed. And Allah is Ever Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” They set up radio programmes designed to mislead gullible young Muslims who do not understand Islam and do not have sufficient knowledge, especially in Africa…. However if the Muslims exercise patience these plots will not harm them. Allaah (The Most High) said: [وَإِنْ تَصْبِرُوا وَتَتَّقُوا لا يَضُرُّكُمْ كَيْدُهُمْ شَيْئًا إِنَّ اللَّهَ بِمَا يَعْمَلُونَ مُحِيطٌ – But if you remain patient and become Al-Muttaqun (the pious – see V.2:2), not the least harm will their cunning do to you. Surely, Allah surrounds all that they do]. (5)

In Defense of Our Adorable Cats and Useful Dogs!

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

There is not a moving (living) creature on earth, nor a bird that flies with its two wings, but are communities like you. We have neglected nothing in the Book, then unto their Lord they (all) shall be gathered. [Surah Al-An’aam. Verse 38]

Some people have started debating whether cats and dogs are causing harm on earth – that the meat eaten by an average canine has twice the carbon footprint as driving a SUV 10,000 kilometres. Others suggest that we should turn our pets into vegetarians with the help of our local vet. Indeed, instead of blaming our adorable cats and useful dogs, we should pay attention to the evil consequences of our deeds on this earth. Allaah [The Exalted] said:

ظَهَرَ ٱلۡفَسَادُ فِى ٱلۡبَرِّ وَٱلۡبَحۡرِ بِمَا كَسَبَتۡ أَيۡدِى ٱلنَّاسِ لِيُذِيقَهُم بَعۡضَ ٱلَّذِى عَمِلُواْ لَعَلَّهُمۡ يَرۡجِعُونَ

Evil (sins and disobedience of Allah, etc.) has appeared on land and sea because of what the hands of people have earned, in order that they may return (by repenting to Allah, and begging His Pardon).] [Surah Ar-Room. Verse 41]

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “This verse was revealed regarding the state of affairs of the world- the relationship between it and the events that occur. You see how the occurrence of those evil actions and defects (of the people) affects the harvest, vegetation and the animals in every era, and the manner in which those evil (affairs) necessitates other evils. And whenever the people initiate oppression and wickedness, their Lord (The Blessed and Most High) brings about- from those evils and defects (of theirs)- deficiencies and harm in their nourishments, fruits, atmospheres, bodies, outward appearances and manners, as a justification for their deeds, acts of oppression and wickedness. The majority of the illnesses and the general evil affairs are remnants of the punishment afflicted upon the people of the previous nations; then there remained from that what remains, as a surprise punishment against those who remain upon the (evil) deeds of those previous nations. This is a just judgement and just decree. And indeed the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] has indicated to this in his statement concerning plagues, that it is a remnant of an affliction or punishment that was sent by Allaah to the Children of Israa’eel. (1)

Consequences of Persisting Upon Evil, Whilst Receiving More Provision

Allaah [The Most High] said:

وَالَّذِينَ كَذَّبُوا بِآيَاتِنَا سَنَسْتَدْرِجُهُم مِّنْ حَيْثُ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ
وَأُمْلِي لَهُمْ ۚ إِنَّ كَيْدِي مَتِينٌ

Those who reject Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), We shall gradually seize them with punishment in ways they perceive not. And I respite them; certainly My Plan is strong. [7:182-183]

[سَنَسْتَدْرِجُهُم – We shall gradually seize them with punishment] – by granting them plentiful provision and respite until they think that they will neither be taken to task for their disobedience nor punished, so they increase in disbelief and transgression, and evil upon evil. And through this their punishment is increased and multiplied, so they harm themselves in ways they perceive not. This is why Allaah said: [إِنَّ كَيْدِي مَتِينٌ -certainly My Plan is strong]. (2)

[ سَنَسْتَدْرِجُهُم مِّنْ حَيْثُ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ – We shall gradually seize them with punishment in ways they perceive not]: Imaam Sufyaan Ath-Thawree [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said that this means: “Whenever they commit (major) sins, Allaah bestows a blessing on them and make them forgetful of seeking forgiveness”. (3)

Allah Will Not Change The Good Condition of a People As Long As They Do Not Change Their State of Goodness Themselves

Allaah [The Most High] said:
إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يُغَيِّرُ مَا بِقَوْمٍ حَتَّىٰ يُغَيِّرُوا مَا بِأَنفُسِهِمْ

Verily! Allah will not change the good condition of a people as long as they do not change their state of goodness themselves (by committing sins and by being ungrateful and disobedient to Allah). [Soorah Ar-Ra’d: Ayah: 11]

Ibnul Jawzee [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said: Whoever loves that the state of affairs should become rectified then let him strive in rectifying (his) deeds. Allaah (The Mighty and Majestic) said:

[وَأَن لَّوِ اسْتَقَامُوا عَلَى الطَّرِيقَةِ لَأَسْقَيْنَاهُم مَّاءً غَدَقًا – If they had believed in Allah, and went on the Right Way, We should surely have bestowed on them water (rain) in abundance] (4)

And in a hadeeth reported by Abdullah Ibn Umar [may Allaah be pleased with him and his father], Allaah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said, “They do not withhold charity from their wealth, except that rain will be withheld from the sky and had it not been for the animals, there would be no rain at all”. (5)

The Dogs Are Less Harmful Than The Khawaarij

Shaikh Falaah Ismaa’eel [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “And that which is worthy that one should be aware of – in order to be acquainted with their danger – is that which Allaah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] wished if he were to meet them and what he described regarding what he would do to them, that he would slaughter them in a manner similar to the manner in which Aad and Thamood were slaughtered, even though they are from the Ummah and from the people of the Qiblah, and especially when one recalls the statement of Allaah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] about dogs, that ‘Had dogs not been a community amongst the communities, I would have commanded that all of them be killed'”. (6)

Therefore, a sensible person compares and ponders regarding what the Messenger of guidance and mercy wished to do to these Khawaarij – despite their (devotion) in worship, prayer, fasting and recitation of the Qur’aan – as opposed to what he forbade himself and others from doing to dogs. Indeed, this is a great proof regarding the danger due to the continuation of this thought [i.e. Fasle Takfeer] and this type of people in the Ummah [i.e. the Khawaarij], because they weaken the Ummah and preoccupy it with [internal problems, strife etc]”. (7)

Brief comment on the Hadeeth: “Had dogs not been a community amongst the communities, I would have commanded that all of them be killed”. Al-Khattaabee [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “The meaning of this statement is that the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] hated that a community amongst the communities and a species amongst the creation would disappear until all of them cease to exist, because indeed there is not a creature from Allaah’s creatures except that there is some wisdom behind their existence and some welfare. So, when this is the case regarding this affair and there is no way of killing all of them, then kill the evil ones amongst them – the black ones- and leave the others, so that you benefit from them as guard dogs”. (8) [NB: Only the authorities in the Uk are allowed to take the life of an animal and any individual who does so will be found guilty of animal cruelty. So beware!]

Dogs we can keep:

Abdullah Ibn Umar [may Allaah be pleased with him and his father] said, “Allaah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said, ‘Whoever keeps a dog, except a dog for herding livestock or a dog that is trained for hunting, two qiraats [i.e. great reward] will be deducted from his reward each day'”. (9)

Imaam Muhammad Ibn Saaleh Al-Uthaymeen [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “Due to this, if a house is located in the middle of the city, then no need of having a dog to guard it. Therefore, to have a dog for this reason in such circumstances is unlawful and impermissible, and it takes away one or two qiraats from a person’s reward each day. However, if the house is located in the countryside and no is present, then it is allowed to have a dog to guard the house and the people residing in it. To guard people of a household is more important than guarding livestock or crops. (10)

The Hunting Dog

Allaah [The Most High] said:

They ask you [O Muhammad)] what is lawful for them [as food]. Say: “Lawful unto you are At-Tayyibat [all kind of Halal (lawful-good) foods which Allah has made lawful (meat of slaughtered eatable animals, milk products, fats, vegetables and fruits, etc.)]. And those beasts and birds of prey which you have trained as hounds, training and teaching them [to catch] in the manner as directed to you by Allaah; so eat of what they catch for you, but pronounce the Name of Allah over it, and fear Allah. Verily, Allah is Swift in reckoning”. [Surah Al-Maa’idah. Aayah 4]

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said:

Indeed, Allaah [Glorified be He] declared the prey of the untrained hound a dead meat and unlawful to eat, and He declared lawful the prey of the trained hound. This is from that which shows the nobility of knowledge, because Allaah did not declare lawful except the prey of the trained hound. Had it not been that knowledge and teaching has a special distinguished virtue and nobility, the trained and untrained hound would have been the same. Treatment of Animals in Islam ― Whoever has animals must treat them well or let them go!
https://www.abukhadeejah.com/treatment-of-animals-in-islam-treat-them-well-or-let-them-go/

Finally, our adorable cats and useful dogs are more useful than the callers to Shirk, Kufr and sin- those who are even proud to concoct principles and beautify falsehood to oppose the path of the Prophets [peace be upon them]. Allaah [The Exalted] said:

And so We have appointed for every Prophet enemies – Shayaateen (devils) among mankind and jinns, inspiring one another with adorned speech as a delusion (or by way of deception). If your Lord had so willed, they would not have done it, so leave them alone with their fabrications.” [Soorah Al-An’aam: Ayah 112]

Allaah [Glorified be He] stated that they aid one another in opposing the command of the Prophets with what some of them inspire others of adorned speech, so that the gullible and feeble minded people are misled by it. He [The Most High] stated the reason behind a perpetrator’s [adorned speech] and the reason why it is accepted by the people; then He [The Most High] mentioned [in ayah 113 Al-An’aam] the effects it has on those ignorant souls. When those souls incline towards such adorned speech and become pleased with it, they carry out what it calls them to do -in speech and action. Therefore, ponder upon these verses and the sublime meanings they convey, for they clarify the roots of false principles and alert a person against them. And if you ponder upon the statements of the people of falsehood, you will indeed find them clothed with expressions and presented in a good light with sophisticated terms, which are quickly accepted by those deprived of sound discernment-to the extent that the wicked sinners would give (good) names to the greatest types of wicked deeds. (11)

And Allaah knows best.

Caution Regarding The RE and PSHE Teacher’s Use of The Words “Holy and Sacred”

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

An Important Clarification Regarding Words, Terms And Expressions

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “The basis of Banee Aadam’s misguidance is due to ‘General Terms’ and ‘Ambiguous Meanings’ [i.e. terms and meanings that can either be utilized for truth or falsehood when not explained in detail and distinguished], especially if they come in contact with a confused mind, then how about when (evil) desires and misguided enthusiasm is added to that?! Therefore, ask the One Who keeps the hearts steadfast [i.e. Allaah] to keep your heart firm upon His Religion and not allow you to fall into this darkness. (1)

The basis of a person’s Islaam is to testify that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allaah and that Muhammad [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] is the Messenger of Allaah, to believe in Allaah, declare that Allaah is One without partner, obey Allaah’s commands, keep away from what Allaah has forbidden and single out Allaah in worship. And safeguarding this path (necessitates) the prohibition of every expression (word or term) that contains Shirk Billaah [i.e. ascribing partners to Allaah], Kufr [disbelief] or will lead to one of the two. (2) In the Qur’aan, there are many words that are utilised to rebut the words oppose the call of the Messengers, the revelation that was revealed to them and the truth they brought. (3)

One of the general fundamental principles (in Islaam) is to know that words are two types- words that are mentioned in the Qur’aan and (authentic) Sunnah, therefore it is obligated on every believer to affirm them, affirm what Allaah and His Messenger have affirmed, and negate what Allaah and His Messenger have negated. The words affirmed by Allaah is truth and the ones Allaah negated are (negated) in truth, because indeed Allaah speaks the truth and guides to the straight path. The words of the divine Islamic legislation are sanctified and it is part of perfection in knowledge that one seeks after the (sound meanings) which the Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] intended by them, in order to affirm what he affirmed and negate the meanings he negated, because indeed it is obligated on us to believe and bear witness to everything he has stated and follow him in everything he has commanded. As for the words that are neither found in the Qur’am and (authentic) Sunnah nor did the Salaf (pious predecessors) hold a consensus regarding whether they are negated or affirmed, then it is not incumbent on anyone to agree with the one who negates or affirms them until its intended meaning is explained. So, if its intended meaning agrees with the (creed, revelation, commands, prohibitions etc) conveyed by the Messenger, it is affirmed; but if its intended meaning is in opposition, it is rejected. (4)

What Are The Meanings of The Words “Sacred and Holy” In The English Language?

Sacred means ‘considered to be holy and deserving respect, especially because of a connection with a god- connected with God or a god or dedicated to a religious purpose and so deserving veneration’. Holy means ‘related to a religion or god- dedicated or consecrated to God or a religious purpose’.

We can clearly see that both the words “Sacred’ and Holy” are connected to God or a god, and this includes beliefs, acts of worship, rites, relics, books, symbols etc .

[A] What is the first thing Muslims should recall when these words are used by people of different creeds and beliefs?

The first thing we should recall is the origin of Shirk [ascribing partners with Allaah] and Bidah [innovation in religious affairs]! Allaah [The Exalted] said:

Mankind were one community and Allah sent Prophets with glad tidings and warnings, and with them He sent the Scripture in truth to judge between people in matters wherein they differed. And only those to whom (the Scripture) was given differed concerning it after clear proofs had come unto them through hatred, one to another. Then Allah by His Leave guided those who believed to the truth of that wherein they differed. And Allah guides whom He wills to a Straight Path. [Surah Al-Baqarah. Verse 213]

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

وَمَا كَانَ ٱلنَّاسُ إِلَّآ أُمَّةً۬ وَٲحِدَةً۬ فَٱخۡتَلَفُواْ‌ۚ وَلَوۡلَا ڪَلِمَةٌ۬ سَبَقَتۡ مِن رَّبِّكَ لَقُضِىَ بَيۡنَهُمۡ فِيمَا فِيهِ يَخۡتَلِفُونَ

Mankind were but one community (i.e. on one religion – Islamic Monotheism), then they differed (later), and had not it been for a Word that went forth before from your Lord, it would have been settled between them regarding what they differed]. [Surah Yunus. Verse 19]

Ibn Abbaas [may Allaah be pleased with him and his father] said, “There were ten generations between Nooh and Aadam, and all of them used to be upon the true path [i.e. upon Islaam – worshipping Allaah alone], then they differed and started worshipping idols- false deities and images, so Allaah sent Messengers with clear proofs and evidences. (5)

Shirk [ascribing partners with Allaah in worship] first started amongst the people of Prophet Nooh [peace be upon him] when they exaggerated (or went beyond bounds regarding the status of) the righteous people and turned away from the call of their Prophet out of pride. Allaah stated that Nooh said that his people said:

[وَقَالُواْ لَا تَذَرُنَّ ءَالِهَتَكُمۡ وَلَا تَذَرُنَّ وَدًّ۬ا وَلَا سُوَاعً۬ا وَلَا يَغُوثَ وَيَعُوقَ وَنَسۡرً۬ا -And they have said, ‘You shall not leave your gods, nor shall you leave Wadd, nor Suwa’, nor Yaghuth, nor Ya’uq, nor Nasr] (6)

Al-Bukhaari [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “It has been narrated from Ibn Abbaas [may Allaah be pleased with him and his father] that these were the names of pious people amongst the people of Nooh, and when they died, shaytaan inspired their people to (prepare) and place idols at the places where they used to sit, and to call those idols by their names. They did so, but did not worship them until those people (who initiated them) died and the origin of the idols had become obscure, whereupon people began worshipping them. (7)

Therefore, the above clearly demonstrates the fact that whatever is innovated in religious practice, even if considered holy and sacred by its adherents, is not valid in the sight of Allaah [The Exalted]. The creeds are two types – the creed revealed by Allaah and the creed initiated by the people. Allaah informed us about Prophet Yoosuf [peace be upon him and his father] that he said to his companions in the prison:

O two companions of the prison! Are many different lords (gods) better or Allah, the One, the Irresistible? You do not worship besides Him but only names which you have named (forged), you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. The command (or the judgement) is for none but Allah. He has commanded that you worship none but Him (i.e. His Monotheism), that is the (true) straight religion, but most men know not. [Soorah Yoosuf: Verses 39-40]

Allaah [The Most High] said:

Have you then considered Al-Lat, and Al-‘Uzza (two idols of the pagan Arabs) And Manat (another idol of the pagan Arabs), the other third? Is it for you the males and for Him the females? That indeed is a division most unfair! They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. [Soorah An-Najm: 19-23]

Allaah (The Most High) said: [أَمْ لَهُمْ شُرَكَاءُ شَرَعُوا لَهُمْ مِنَ الدِّينِ مَا لَمْ يَأْذَنْ بِهِ اللَّهُ – Or have they partners with Allah (false gods), who have instituted for them a religion which Allah has not allowed]. [Soorah Ash-Shoorah: Verse 21]
All these verses clearly show that the sound Islamic creed can only be derived from the revelation [i.e. the Qur’aan and the authentic Sunnah].

The delegation of Abdul Qais: The delegation said, “O Messenger of Allaah, we come to you from a far-off distance and there lives between you and us a tribe- the unbelievers of Mudar, and it is not possible for us to come to you except in the sacred months; so direct us to a clear command regarding which we are to inform others and by way of which we may enter paradise. The Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said, “I command you to do four things and forbid you from four things”, and he added, “I command you to have Eemaan in Allaah”. Then he asked them, “Do you know what Eemaan in Allaah is?” They said, “Allaah and His Messenger know best”. He said, “It is the testimony that none has the right to be worshipped except Allaah and that Muhammad is the messenger of Allaah…” [Saheeh Muslim]

Those people [i.e. the delegation of Abdul Qais] were Arabs and people of eloquence in their language, however when the Messenger asked them about Eemaan, they replied, “Allaah and His Messenger know best”. This shows that the affairs of the creed and Eemaan are only established by way of the revelation. As for the people of religious innovations and unlawful desires, some of them derive their creed by way of the intellect, opinions, dreams, fables and beliefs they desire. (8)

Therefore, it is very clear – as stated above – that whatever is concocted as belief or religious rites is not sacred or holy in the sight of Allaah, just as Allaah [The Exalted] stated that Prophet Yusuf [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said to his companions in the prison: [مَا تَعْبُدُونَ مِنْ دُونِهِ إِلَّا أَسْمَاءً سَمَّيْتُمُوهَا أَنْتُمْ وَآَبَاؤُكُمْ مَا أَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ بِهَا مِنْ سُلْطَانٍ – You do not worship besides Him but only names which you have named (forged), you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority].

[B] The Concept Regarding Gods

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

Or have they taken (for worship) aliha (gods) from the earth who raise the dead? Had there been therein (in the heavens and the earth) gods besides Allah, then verily both would have been ruined. Glorified be Allah, the Lord of the Throne, (High is He) above what they attribute to Him! He cannot be questioned as to what He does, while they will be questioned. Or have they taken for worship (other) aliha (gods) besides Him? Say: “Bring your proof:” This (the Qur’an) is the Reminder for those with me and the Reminder for those before me. But most of them know not the Truth, so they are averse. And We did not send any Messenger before you (O Muhammad) but We inspired him (saying): La ilaha illa Ana [none has the right to be worshipped but I (Allah)], so worship Me (Alone and no one else).” [Surah Al-Anbiyaa. Verses 21-25]

Allaah [The Exalted] stated His disapproval of the polytheists (idolaters) – those who (worship things which they have taken as) gods in the earth, even though these (so called) gods are absolutely incapacitated and powerless. Neither are they are able to bring them back to life nor resurrect them, and this is further explained by the statement of Allaah:

وَاتَّخَذُوا مِنْ دُونِهِ آلِهَةً لاَ يَخْلُقُونَ شَيْئًا وَهُمْ يُخْلَقُونَ وَلاَ يَمْلِكُونَ ِلأَنفُسِهِمْ ضَرًّا وَلاَ نَفْعًا وَلاَ يَمْلِكُونَ مَوْتًا وَلاَ حَيَاةً وَلاَ نُشُورًا

Yet they have taken besides Him other aliha (gods) that created nothing but are themselves created, and possess neither hurt nor benefit for themselves, and possess no power (of causing) death, nor (of giving) life, nor of raising the dead]. [Surah Al-Furqaan. Aayah 3]

And Allaah [The Exalted] said:

وَاتَّخَذُوا مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ آلِهَةً لَعَلَّهُمْ يُنصَرُونَ
لاَ يَسْتَطِيعُونَ نَصْرَهُمْ وَهُمْ لَهُمْ جُندٌ مُحْضَرُونَ

And they have taken besides Allah aliha (gods), hoping that they might be helped (by those so-called gods). They cannot help them, but they will be brought forward as a troop against those who worshipped them (at the time of Reckoning). [Surah Yaa Seen. Verses 74-75]

A polytheist (or idolater) worships a created thing that can neither benefit nor harm, and he abandons sincere worship to Allaah – The One Who is Perfect [i.e. the only possessor of Perfect Names and Attributes; free from all weaknesses, shortcomings and imperfections], and in His Hand is the absolute control over all benefit and harm. This shows that a polytheist (or idolater) is not blessed (with guidance), his ignorance is clearly established as well as the severity of his unjust behaviour towards Allaah, because indeed it is only befitting that there is only one (true) deity, just as there cannot be except one (true) Lord. And because of this, Allaah [The Exalted] said:

[لَوْ كَانَ فِيهِمَا آلِهَةٌ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ لَفَسَدَتَا فَسُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَرْشِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ – Had there been therein (in the heavens and the earth) gods besides Allaah, then verily both [i.e. the heavens and the earth] would have been ruined. Glorified be Allah, the Lord of the Throne, (High is He) above what they attribute to Him!] [Surah Al-anbiyaa. Aayah 22]- Meaning: Both the heavens and the earth would have been ruined as well the creation in them.

The heavens and the earth – as one can see – are in a perfect state, intact and in perfect order. Neither is there any defect in them and obstacles [to its perfect order] nor conflict in its organisation. Therefore, this shows that the One who controls and regulates its affairs is One- its Lord is one and the deity [under whose control they are maintained] is One. If it were the case that the heavens and the earth has two [deities] that control and regulate its affairs- two lords or more, then its perfect order would have been ruined and its foundations would have been undermined. That is because they would have been obstacles and opponents to one another; so if one of them wishes to plan and administer something and the other one wishes that it should not take place, then it would be impossible for both their wishes to be fulfilled. [On the other hand], the fulfilment of the wishes of one of them would have shown that the other one is weak and unable do whatever he wants; and it is impossible that both of them will agree on everything. Therefore, the wish of The Irresistible [i.e. Allaah- the only True Lord and besides Him every other deity is false]- is what will be fulfilled without anyone being able to prevent or repel it. And this is why Allaah [The Exalted] said:

مَا اتَّخَذَ اللَّهُ مِنْ وَلَدٍ وَمَا كَانَ مَعَهُ مِنْ إِلَهٍ إِذًا لَذَهَبَ كُلُّ إِلَهٍ بِمَا خَلَقَ وَلَعَلاَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَى بَعْضٍ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ

No son (or offspring or children) did Allah beget, nor is there any ilah (god) along with Him; (if there had been many gods), behold, each god would have taken away what he had created, and some would have tried to overcome others! Glorified be Allah above all that they attribute to Him!] [Surah Al-Muminoon. Verse 91] (9)

[C] Those Who Received The Previous Scriptures Have Already Been Commanded to Submit to The Path of Muhammad – The Seal of The Prophets But There Is No Compulsion In Religion

Allaah [The Most High] said:

Say (O Muhammad): “O people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians): Come to a word that is just between us and you, that we worship none but Allah, and that we associate no partners with Him, and that none of us shall take others as lords besides Allah. Then, if they turn away, say: “Bear witness that we are Muslims.” [Surah Aal Imraan. Verse 64]

Meaning: say to the people of the scripture – the Jews and Christians, [تَعَالَوۡاْ إِلَىٰ ڪَلِمَةٍ۬ سَوَآءِۭ بَيۡنَنَا وَبَيۡنَكُمۡ – Come to a word that is just between us and you]- Meaning: Come let us unite upon the statement which all the Prophets and Messengers agreed upon and none opposed it except the obstinate and misguided. This statement is not specific to anyone of us, rather it is something that you and us should establish between us, so this is justice and fairness in debate. Then Allaah explains this and said: [أَلَّا نَعۡبُدَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهَ وَلَا نُشۡرِكَ بِهِۦ شَيۡـًٔ۬ا – that we worship none but Allah, and that we associate no partners with Him]- Meaning: We should single out Allaah in worship, devoting all love, fear and hope to Him alone, and we should not associate anyone as partner with Allaah in worship- neither a Prophet, an Angel, a Righteous Person, an Idol, a Deified image, a living or non-living thing.

[وَلَا يَتَّخِذَ بَعۡضُنَا بَعۡضًا أَرۡبَابً۬ا مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ‌ۚ – and that none of us shall take others as lords besides Allaah]; rather all obedience is to be devoted to Allah and His Messengers. [فَإِن تَوَلَّوۡاْ فَقُولُواْ ٱشۡهَدُواْ بِأَنَّا مُسۡلِمُونَ – Then, if they turn away, say: “Bear witness that we are Muslims]. (10)

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

وَعَلَى اللَّهِ قَصْدُ السَّبِيلِ وَمِنْهَا جَائِرٌ

And upon Allah is the responsibility to explain the Straight Path but there are ways that turn aside.’’ [16:9]
[وَعَلَى اللَّهِ قَصْدُ السَّبِيلِ- And upon Allah is the responsibility to explain the Straight Path]: Az-Zujaaj [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “It is Allaah who will clarify the straight path and call to it with Hujaj [i.e. clear and overwhelming proofs that defeats all the obstinate and stubborn ones] and Burhaan [i.e. proofs that clarify and distinguish between truth and falsehood in everything].

[وَمِنْهَا جَائِر -but there are ways that turn aside]: Ibn Abbaas [may Allaah be pleased with him and his father] said, “They are the different types of desires [i.e. evil desires]”. Ibnul Mubaarak [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “They are the (evil) desires and the innovations in religion”. (11)

Allaah [The Exalted] also said:

Verily! Those who believe and those who are Jews and Christians, and Sabians, whoever believes in Allaah and the Last Day and do righteous good deeds shall have their reward with their Lord, on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve]. [Surah Al-Baqarah. Verse 62]

Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “Indeed, (the above verse)places you (Christians), the Jews and the Sabians on the same level. You (Christians) are in agreement with the Muslims that the Jews became disbelievers after belying the Messiah [peace be upon him] and the Sabians became disbelievers after belying the Messenger sent to them. Therefore, if it were the case that this verse exalts the Religion you are upon after the advent of Muhammad [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him], then in it will also be praise for the Religion of the Jews, and both the Muslims and yourselves consider this to be falsehood. So, if the Jews have not been praised in this verse after the abrogation and replacement of (their religion), then there will be no praise in it for the Christians after abrogation and replacement of (their religion); rather the meaning of the verse refers to those who believe in Muhammad [i.e. the Muslims], and those Jews who followed Moosaa- those who were upon his path before its abrogation and replacement; and the Christians who followed the Messiah- those who followed his path before its abrogation and replacement; and the Sabians- the Sabian Monotheists, such as those amongst the Arabs and other than them who were upon the Religion of Ibraaheem, Ismaa’eel and Ishaaq before its abrogation and replacement, because the Arabs are from the children of Ismaa-eel and other than him from amongst those who were neighbours of the Baitul Ateeq (the ka’bah), which was built by Ibraaheem and Ismaa-eel, and they used to be Monotheists upon the religion of Ibraaheem up until one of the heads of the (Khuzaa-a clan) Amr Bin Luhai altered the religion of Ibraaheem with polytheism and prohibited that which Allaah did not prohibit. This is why the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said, “I saw Amr Bin luhai dragging his guts in the hell fire for he was the first one who set out across the small sea and changed the religion of Ibraaheem”. Likewise, there were those of the Children of Ishaaq who were upon the religion of Ibraaheem before the advent of Moosaa [peace be upon him] and they used to be from the favoured, praised ones. Therefore, the above mentioned and others like them are those who have been praised. Allaah said:

Verily! Those who believe and those who are Jews and Christians, and Sabians, whoever believes in Allaah and the Last Day and do righteous good deeds shall have their reward with their Lord, on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve]. [Surah Al-Baqarah. Verse 62]

The People of the Scripture who (came) after the abrogation and replacement of (these Religions) are neither from those who believed in Allaah and the Last day nor from those who worked righteous good deeds. Those people of the Scripture (who came after the advent of Muhammad) disbelieved because they either substituted the religion of the Messiah or belied him or belied Muhammad in various affairs. The verses of the Qur’aan (about this affair) are clear and many, transmitted in abundance and are known by necessity in the Religion of Muhammad. However, these Christians approach the Qur’aan in the same way they approached the Torah and the Injeel. They make undue claims on the Muhkamaat [i.e. the clear texts] which do not carry except a single meaning, whilst clinging onto the Mutashaabih [i.e. the texts which must be referred back to the Muhkamaat for explanation], even though in them there is that which is in opposition to what they desire. (12)

There Is No Compulsion In Religion

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

There is no compulsion in religion. Verily, the Right Path has become distinct from the wrong path. Whoever disbelieves in Taghut and believes in Allah, then he has grasped the most trustworthy handhold that will never break. And Allah is All-Hearer, All-Knower]. [Surah Al-Baqarah. Verse 256] Refer to Link By Shaikh Abu Khadeejah [may Allaah preserve him: https://www.abukhadeejah.com/there-is-no-compulsion-in-religion-guidance-is-distinct-from-falsehood-islamic-view-on-forced-conversions-ibn-kathir-at-tabari-and-others/

Finally: Therefore when Muslims have a clear insight into that which is mentioned regarding the words “Sacred and Holy”, or “Respect and Tolerance”, they will distance themselves from everything that is not ordained in the final revelation, but also behaving well – neither falling into the traps of the extremists nor the actions of the sinful compromisers. Whenever children ask about the religious rites of the Jews, Christians, Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists and others, we choose our words carefully and we do not say to them, “These are sacred or holy rites”, rather we say to them, “This is the path they have chosen after the advent of the seal of the Prophets and there is no compulsion in religion. It is what they CONSIDER to be HOLY or SACRED at present, however the FINAL REVELATION (Qur’aan and Sunnah) sent down by the Creator does not sanction them, but we are commanded to deal with humankind in a kind and just manner. As for the Khaarijites – terrorists, they are enemies of humankind because they distort the Qur’aan and Sunnah to justify their satanic methodology”. http://www.islamagainstextremism.com/

Brothers and sisters, let us be careful and vigilant when using terms, especially when seeking to improve the vocabulary of our children, because words and terms carry both religious and cultural meanings which can greatly influence the ideas, views, perceptions, beliefs, behaviour and opinions of a person. And Allaah knows best.

One of The Lofty Goals of Education When Freed From The Manipulation and Virtual Monopoly of Ideologues

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

The Foundation of An Upright Society

Al-Allaamah Saaleh Al-Fawzaan [may Allaah preserve him] said:

The rectification of every nation and its (upright) ascendancy is tied to the soundness of its creed and views, so due to this reason, the Message of the Prophets [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon them] came to rectify the creed. The first thing every Messenger said to his people was: [ٱعۡبُدُواْ ٱللَّهَ مَا لَكُم مِّنۡ إِلَـٰهٍ غَيۡرُهُ- Worship Allah! You have no other Ilah (God) but Him. (La ilaha ill-Allah: none has the right to be worshipped but Allah)]. [Surah Al-A’raaf’ Aayah 59]

[وَلَقَدۡ بَعَثۡنَا فِى ڪُلِّ أُمَّةٍ۬ رَّسُولاً أَنِ ٱعۡبُدُواْ ٱللَّهَ وَٱجۡتَنِبُواْ ٱلطَّـٰغُوتَ‌ۖ – And verily, We have sent among every Ummah (community, nation) a Messenger (proclaiming): “Worship Allah (Alone), and avoid (or keep away from) Taghut (all false deities, etc. i.e. do not worship Taghut besides Allah)]. [Surah An-Nahl’ Aayah 36]

And that is because Allaah [Glorified be He and free is He from all Imperfections] created the Khalq [i.e. Jinn and Mankind] to worship Him alone and not to associate anything as a partner with Him, just as (Allaah) said:

[وَمَا خَلَقۡتُ ٱلۡجِنَّ وَٱلۡإِنسَ إِلَّا لِيَعۡبُدُونِ -And I (Allah) created not the jinns and humans except they should worship Me (Alone)]. [Surah Adh-Dhaariyaat’ Aayah 56]

Ibaadah (worship) is a right due to Allaah (alone) which His slaves must fulfil, just as the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said to Mu’aadh Bin Jabal [may Allaah be pleased with him], “O Mu’adh! Do you know what is the right of Allah upon His servants?” I said, “Allah and His Messenger know best”. The Prophet said, “To worship Him alone and to associate none in worship with Him. And do you know what is their right upon Him?” I said, “Allah and His Messenger know best”. The Prophet said, “Not to punish them if they do so”. [Bukhari]

The is the first and foremost Right (or obligation one must fulfil) without exception. Nothing else precedes it nor is precedence given to the rights of anyone (or the obligations owed to anyone) over it. Allaah [The Most High] said: [وَقَضَىٰ رَبُّكَ أَلَّا تَعۡبُدُوٓاْ إِلَّآ إِيَّاهُ وَبِٱلۡوَٲلِدَيۡنِ إِحۡسَـٰنًا‌ۚ – And your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him. And that you be dutiful to your parents]. [Surah Al-Israa’ Aayah 23]

Say (O Muhammad ): “Come, I will recite what your Lord has prohibited you from: Join not anything in worship with Him; be good and dutiful to your parents. [Sural Al-An’aam’ Aayah 151] [Muhaadaraat Fil Aqeedah Wad-Da’wah’ 1/7-17. slightly paraphrased]

And regarding the statement of the Prophet, “What is the right of Allaah upon His slaves?” This means that which (i.e. the obligations) Allaah has obligated on them. And regarding the statement of the Prophet, “What is the right of the slaves upon Allaah?” Meaning, that which Allaah has obligated on Himself in dealing with them. The slaves cannot obligate anything, rather Allaah obligated it upon Himself as a blessing from Allaah bestowed upon His slaves.

Allaah [The Most High] said:

كَتَبَ رَبُّكُمۡ عَلَىٰ نَفۡسِهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَةَ‌ۖ أَنَّهُ ۥ مَنۡ عَمِلَ مِنكُمۡ سُوٓءَۢا بِجَهَـٰلَةٍ۬ ثُمَّ تَابَ مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِۦ وَأَصۡلَحَ فَأَنَّهُ ۥ غَفُورٌ۬ رَّحِيمٌ۬

Your Lord has written Mercy for Himself, so that, if any of you does evil in ignorance, and thereafter repents and does righteous good deeds (by obeying Allah), then surely, He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful]. [Surah Al-An’aam’ Aayah 54]

So, Allaah [Glorified be He and free is He from all imperfections] obligated on Himself that He will show mercy to the one who does evil in ignorance – meaning: out of foolishness and lack of good behaviour, but then he repents and does righteous deeds. And the meaning of [كتب in this Aayah] is [ أوجب – obligated]. [Al-Qawlul Mufeed Alaa Kitaabit Tawheed’ by Shaikh Uthaymeen. 1/46]

And due to the precedence given to this obligation [i.e. to worship Allaah alone and not to associate anyone or anything with Him in worship] over all other obligations, and since it is the basis of all the rulings of the religion, we find that the Prophet stayed in Makkah for thirteen years -calling the people to worship Allaah alone and negated all partners associated with Allaah in worship. [Muhaadaraat Fil Aqeedah Wad-Da’wah’ 1/7-17. slightly paraphrased]

Unrestricted Access to Beneficial Knowledge

Allaamah Rabee Bin Haadee [may Allaah preserve him] stated: It is obligated on the scholars to give out the knowledge they possess; and when they are asked, it is obligated on them to respond. Allaah [The Most High] said:

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَكْتُمُونَ مَا أَنزَلْنَا مِنَ الْبَيِّنَاتِ وَالْهُدَىٰ مِن بَعْدِ مَا بَيَّنَّاهُ لِلنَّاسِ فِي الْكِتَابِ ۙ أُولَٰئِكَ يَلْعَنُهُمُ اللَّهُ وَيَلْعَنُهُمُ اللَّاعِنُونَ

Verily, those who conceal the clear proofs, evidences and the guidance, which We have sent down, after We have made it clear for the people in the Book, they are the ones cursed by Allah and cursed by the cursers. [Surah Al-Baqarah Aayah 159] [Marhaban Yaa Taalibal Ilm. pages 132-136]

Abu Moosaa [may Allaah be pleased with him] said that Allaah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said, “The example of guidance and knowledge with which Allaah has sent me is like abundant rain falling on the earth, some of which was fertile soil that absorbed the water and brought forth vegetation and grass in abundance. Another portion of it was hard and held the water and Allaah benefited the people with it and they utilised it for drinking, making their animals drink from it and for irrigation of the land for cultivation. A portion of it was barren which could neither hold the water nor bring forth vegetation [so that land gave no benefits]. The first is the example of the person who comprehends Allaah’s religion and benefit (from the knowledge) which Allaah has revealed through me, learns and then teaches others. The last example is that of a person who does not care for it and does not take Allaah’s guidance revealed through me. [He is like that barren land]”. [Saheeh Al-Bukhaari. Hadeeth Number 79. Book of Knowledge]

Imaam Muhammad Ibnu Saalih Al-Uthaymeen [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “In this similitude, the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said: “The example of guidance and knowledge with which Allaah has sent me with, is like abundant rain falling on the earth”. The earth [upon which the rain fell] is of three types: The First Type of Earth: It is the earth that absorbed the water and produced abundant grass and vegetation, so the people were benefited through that. The Second Type of Earth is a Plain: It retained the water and the people benefited from it. They utilized it for drinking and as a source of irrigation [for their crops]. The Third Type of Earth: It absorbed the water but does not produce any benefit. This is the relationship between the people and the knowledge and guidance with which the Prophet was sent with.

The First Category of People: Amongst them is one who has understanding of Allaah’s Religion. He learns and teaches- benefits the people and himself. This is similar to the earth that produces grass and vegetation, so that the people and animals eat from it.

The Second Category of People: They are a people who have been entrusted with the guidance, but they do not possess sound understanding (like the first category of people). They transmit knowledge and Hadeeth amongst themselves, but they do not possess sound understanding (like the first group). The similitude of these people is that of the earth that retained the water and the people were provided with water. They used it for drinking, their animals drank from it and they used it as a source of irrigation; but the earth does not produce anything.

The Third Category: The one who is not benefited by the knowledge and guidance given to the Prophet. He turns away and does not incline towards it. He is neither benefited by that which the Prophet was sent with nor does he benefit others. His similitude is that of the earth that absorbed the water, but does not produce anything. [Ash-Shar’hul Ma’mool Li-imthaali- Ar-Rasool. pages 7-8]

Eagerness to Seek Knowledge and Giving Others a Chance to Benefit

Allaah [The Most High] said:

O you who believe! When you are told to make room in the assemblies, [spread out and] make room. Allah will give you [ample] room [from His Mercy]. And when you are told to rise up, rise up. Allah will exalt in degree those of you who believe, and those who have been granted knowledge. And Allah is Well-Acquainted with what you do. [58:11]

Imaam As-Sadi [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said: This is a practical code of behaviour commanded by Allaah to His believing slaves- that when they come together in one of their gatherings, some of them or some of those who have already arrived should make room (for others); for indeed it is part of good etiquettes to make room for him (i.e. the other person) to reach his goal. And this is not to harm the one who is [already] in the gathering in anyway; rather he enables his [Muslim] brother to reach his goal without him being harmed, and reward is given in accordance with a deed; for indeed whoever makes room, Allaah makes room for him, and whoever shows generosity to his brother, Allaah will show him generosity. [Tafseer as Sadi]

Imaam Al-Bukhaari [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said: “Chapter: Whoever sat at the farther end of a gathering. And whoever found a place amongst a gathering and took his seat there.” Narrated Abu Waaqid Al-Laythi [may Allaah be pleased with him], “While Allaah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] was sitting in the mosque with some people, three men came. Two of them came in front of Allaah’s Messenger and the third went away. The two kept on standing before Allaah’s Messenger for a while and then one of them found a place in the circle and sat there while the other sat behind them [the gathering], and the third went away. When Allaah’s Messenger finished his gathering, he said, ‘Shall I tell you about these three persons? One of them betook himself to Allaah, so Allaah took him into His Grace and Mercy and accompanied him, the second felt shy, so Allaah was shy towards him [a] while the third turned away, so Allaah turned away from him'”. [Saheeh al-Bukhaari Vol 1. Hadeeth Number 66]

Regarding the statement, “The second felt shy, so Allaah was shy towards him]” [i.e. in a way that befits Allaah’s Majesty]. Imaam Muhammad ibn Saaleh Al-Uthaymeen said, “Allaah’s shyness is not similar to the shyness of the creation. [see Tafseer Soorah Al-Baqarah Ayah 26]

Imaam Abdul-Azeez Bin Baaz [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said: In this (hadeeth) there are beneficial points: [a] Sometimes he [i.e. the Messenger] used to have sittings-sometimes in the Masjid and sometimes in the house. [b] It is recommended for the one who enters a masjid whilst there is a gathering that he joins it. [c] In this (hadeeth is evidence about) being eager to benefit (in knowledge); so he enters if he finds a space; but if not he (stays) at the back. [d] In this (hadeeth) there is a warning against turning away from knowledge. [Al-Hulalul Ibreeziyyah Min At-Ta’liqaat Al-Baaziyyah Alaa Saheeh Al-Bukhaari Vol 1: page 34. Footnote 2]

No Injustice In The Foundation of Sharee’ah Knowledge

The statements that have preceded clearly shows us that the very foundation of divine Islamic knowledge neither promotes nor encourages concealment of knowledge or utilizing it as a tool of manipulation and control. Students had access to the best teacher regardless of their social status, race or background. The knowledge that was made available to the senior companions of the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him], such as AbuBakr, Umar, Uthmaan and Ali [may Allaah be pleased with them] was the same knowledge that was made available to others, such as the likes of Abu Hurairah [may Allaah be pleased with him]. Abu Hurairah – one of the greatest memorizers and transmitters of Hadeeth – is well known to all of us, and we know that he joined the company of the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] much later than many other companions, but he learnt so much -within three years in the Prophet’s company- from what was also available to everyone else to the extent that one would think that he was more knowledgeable than many of them. Imaam Muhammad Bin Saaleh Al-Uthaymeen [may Allaah have mercy upon him] was asked, “Who narrated more hadeeth – Abu Bakr or Abu Hurairah?” He answer, “Indeed, Abu Hurairah narrated more Hadeeth than Abu Bakr, but that does not mean that Abu Hurairah heard more Hadeeth than Abu Bakr, because Abu Bakr was a companion of Allaah’s Messenger in the summers, winters, nights, days, (during) journeys and whilst at home, so he heard (more) than (others) and had more knowledge regarding the affairs of Allaah’s Messenger; however he did not spend a lot of time to sit and narrate to the people what he heard from the Prophet”. [Sharh Hilyati Taalibal Ilm’ page 49].

We read in Islamic history that the seekers of knowledge used to travel – thousands of miles and for many years- to seek knowledge from the scholars in different regions and they were not given lesser attention than the children of kings, governors or tribal chiefs; rather the scholars made available the same knowledge to everyone. In addition to this, the students greatly benefitted from the upright moral conduct of the teachers. Ahnaf Ibn Qais [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “We frequently went to Qais Ibn Aasim [may Allaah have mercy upon him] to learn forbearance from him, just as we frequently went to the scholars to seek knowledge”. [Taareekh Dimashq 26/219]

Bear in mind that this is no call to socialism or communism when access to education is mentioned, rather it is a call to fairness – that beneficial knowledge – whether related to religious or worldly affairs – is not reserved only for the rich, utilized to control, manipulate and deceive the masses; rather it should be given to benefit everyone. However, no sane person would negate the fact that it is impossible for everyone to receive the same in every aspect of life, rather it is Allaah who portions out our provisions based on perfect wisdom and justice. Allaah [The Exalted] said:

It is We Who portion out between them their livelihood in this world, and We raised some of them above others in ranks, so that some may employ others in their work. But the Mercy (Paradise) of your Lord (O Muhammad ) is better than the (wealth of this world) which they amass. [Surah Az-Zukhruf. Verse 32]

Likewise, the teachers should always encourage the learners when they find it hard to grasp a subject matter – whether related to the religious or worldly affairs – and the final outcome is with Allaah, because He alone grants understanding to whoever He wills. We have an excellent example regarding the grammarian Al-Kisaa’ee. Imaam Muhammad ibn Saaleh Al-Uthaymeen [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “Indeed, our Shaikh -the diligent one- Abdur Rahmaan As’Sadi [may Allaah have mercy upon him] related to me that it has been stated about Al-Kisaa’ee -an Imaam of the people of koofa- sought after the knowledge of Arabic grammar, but could not (grasp it or was unable to progress). One day, he found an ant carrying its food whilst ascending a wall. Whenever it ascended, it fell off; but it persevered until it overcame this obstacle and ascended the wall. Al-Kisaa’ee said, ‘This ant persevered until it reached its goal’. So, he persevered until he became an Imaam in Arabic grammar”. [Sharh Hilyati Taalib Al-Ilm. 207]

Therefore, upright scholars – before the advent of the deviant sects that were influenced by the Greeks – had a single goal in transmitting knowledge and that was to give Muslims – first and foremost – obligatory knowledge that would enable them to worship Allaah based on clear-sightedness. This knowledge enabled its seekers to acquire literacy skills, enhanced upright critical thinking and upright intellectual discussion in various subject matters of the religion and the worldly affairs. This was the basis of education -to guide and pass on socially upright values based on the divine revelation for the upright survival of the Ummah, and it was made available to everyone – children of kings, peasants, the poor, the rich, the disabled, the slaves etc.

When Ideologues Have Virtual Monopoly On Education

However, when education is abandoned to the desires of competing ideologues, then one can only expect political and educational controversy, because proponents of the dominant ideology of the day will seek to influence schools to promote values that are championed by organizations with a distinct political orientation. Then when another group of people with a different political ideology are voted in power, they also seek to promote their views in all walks of life. So, regardless how many types of schools open in modern society – in order to provide more choice for state school pupils and students, education will always be the victim of competing ideologues. In Islam, the education system has a single goal – free from the competition of the ideologues; rather the education system is founded upon nurturing the next generation upon piety and to pursue the beneficial affairs of the worldly life.

Sincere Co-operation In The Worldly Affairs

Allaah [The Most High] said: [ وَتَعَاوَنُوا عَلَى الْبِرِّ وَالتَّقْوَىٰ ۖ وَلَا تَعَاوَنُوا عَلَى الْإِثْمِ وَالْعُدْوَانِ – Help you one another in Al-Birr and At-Taqwa [virtue, righteousness and piety]; but do not help one another in sin and transgression. [5:2]

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “This verse contains all the beneficial affairs for the slaves in their worldly affairs and affairs related to the Hereafter- be it between themselves or between them and their Lord; for indeed every servant (of Allaah) finds himself within two circumstances and obligations – either (required) to fulfil the obligations owed to Allaah or the obligations owed to Allaah’s creation. As for the obligations owed to the creation, they include (righteous) association, companionship, aiding one another upon what Allaah loves and obedience to Allaah, and that is the goal behind one’s search for happiness and success in the afterlife. There can be no happiness in the afterlife except through Bir (virtue) and Taqwaa (piety), because it is basis of all affairs of the religion”. [Badaa’i At-Tafseer Al-Jaami Limaa Fassarahu Al-Imaam Ibnul Qayyim Al-Jawziyyah’ Vol 1 pages 307-311. Publisher: Daar Ibn Al-Jawziyyah 2nd Ed, 1431AH]

The Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said: “None of you (truly) believe until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself.” [Saheeh Al-Bukhaari. Hadeeth Number 13]

Therefore, with regards to the beneficial worldly sciences, then indeed a Muslim loves for others what he loves for himself, so he helps others to pursue their goals in an upright manner. The Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said, “The religion is sincerity (and sincere advise)”. Shaikh Saaleh Aala Ash-Shaikh [may Allaah preserve him] stated, “Advice to the Muslims is to guide them to the beneficial things related to the affairs of their afterlife and the worldly life and aid them in that; guide them towards rectification in affairs related to their worldly life and Afterlife, love them for the sake of Allaah, aid them in truth, co-operate with them in good and guidance and not in sin and transgression; clarify the truth for them and advise them with it, disapprove evil if they violate Allaah’s Right etc”. [Sharh Arba’een An-Nawawi page: 81]

Umar Ibn Abdul Azeez [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “Whoever advises his [Muslim] brother to rectify affairs related to his Deen and gives him insight in a worldly affair of his, then indeed he has perfected their relationship and fulfilled his obligation towards him”. [Taareekh At-Tabari 6/572]

There is no doubt that sincere implementation of what is found in the above authentic narrations will put an end to the education system that is engineered by the ideologues. However, this is not to say that the achievements of all pupils will be the same, because even if the standard of education – in the beneficial worldly sciences – is very high, then still some people will excel others either due to wealth bestowed on their parents to access more resources and well-informed teachers or due to the different abilities Allaah has granted humans; but what is intended here is that none is prevented from access education due to the obstacles engineered by the ideologues. As for intelligence and ability, then there is no doubt that Allaah is the one who bestows each of us what He wills. Imaam al-Barbahaaree [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “Intellect is inborn”. Al-Allaamah Ahmad Bin Yahyah An-Najmee [may Allaah have mercy upon him] stated, “Meaning, it [i.e. intellect] is brought forth together with the person, and it develops and increases as he [the person] grows. So, the intellect starts as something small, then become greater together with its possessor. There is no doubt that the intellects vary based on that which Allaah bestowed on every person. And indeed in the Qur’aan Allaah [The Mighty and Majestic] praised the people of (sound) intellect. [Irshaad As-Saaree Fee Sharh as-Sunnah Lil-Barbahaaree. 155. Daarul Minhaaj 1430AH (2009)]

Therefore, every sane person recognizes that the intellects vary based on that which Allaah has bestowed upon every individual, but if an education system promotes injustice through ideology or cultural bias, then concealment of knowledge and manipulation is expected. A Muslim is warned against concealment and miserliness in all affairs. Allaah [The Exalted] said:

ٱلَّذِينَ يَبۡخَلُونَ وَيَأۡمُرُونَ ٱلنَّاسَ بِٱلۡبُخۡلِ وَيَڪۡتُمُونَ مَآ ءَاتَٮٰهُمُ ٱللَّهُ مِن فَضۡلِهِۦ‌ۗ وَأَعۡتَدۡنَا لِلۡڪَـٰفِرِينَ عَذَابً۬ا مُّهِينً۬ا

Those who are miserly and enjoin miserliness on other people and hide what Allaah has bestowed upon them of His Bounties. And We have prepared for the disbelievers a disgraceful torment.’4:37

Imaam as-Sa’di [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “Those who are miserly” – meaning, they refrain from fulfilling the rights obligated in them to fulfil. “And enjoin miserliness on other people”- meaning, through their statements and actions. “And hide what Allaah has bestowed upon them of His Bounties’- meaning, knowledge, through which the astray are guided and the ignorant ones are led aright. So, they hide it from them and make apparent to them falsehood that comes between them and the truth. Therefore, they (i.e. the misers) have gathered between miserliness with regards to wealth and knowledge, and between hastening towards loss for themselves and for others. This is a characteristic of the disbelievers and due to this Allaah (The Most High) said, “And We have prepared for the disbelievers a disgraceful torment”. [Tafseer as-Sadi]

Scholars Urge Rulers to Help Students

And examine what Al-Allaamah Rabee Bin Haadee [may Allaah preseve him] stated here even though he was speaking about Sharee’ah kbnowledge! He stated, “Many youth are thirsty for seeking knowledge, but they face many, many obstacles that arise from their localities – either because there are no scholars from the locality or the country they live in is a barrier between them and seeking knowledge; or the country that is to accept [or welcome their applications, requests for seeking knowledge] has conditions that [make it possible for] a few to be accepted and prevents many from entering into the domain of [seeking] knowledge. We ask Allaah to grant the Muslims and their rulers [the ability, means etc] to put an end to these obstacles that are placed in front of the students of knowledge, because at present the Ummah is in need of scholars. At present the Ummah is in a very degraded state – and Allaah’s Refuge is sought; a state of humiliation, disrespected and [faced] with problems, which cannot cease except with the presence of erudite scholars – those who study, [convey, transmit etc] knowledge from its precise sources, spread this knowledge that will make the Ummah wide-awake from its slumber- the true knowledge brought by the Prophets [peace be upon them]. And the main affair among these affairs [of knowledge] is the subject matter of Tawheed [Islamic monotheism], because misguidance has spread in the Islamic world, ignorance, superstitious beliefs and bidah, which none can stop except Allaah, by way of scholars who [convey, transmit etc] knowledge from its precise sources – spreading it just as they acquired it from the Book of Allaah and the [authentic] Sunnah of Allaah’s Messsnger. At present you find localities in which there are no scholars. It may be that a student of knowledge is poor and is unable to travel – faces obstacles that are a barrier between him and knowledge. [Therefore], it is obligated on the scholars to examine [or look into these] affairs, and [likewise] the rulers. They should fear Allaah with regards to [making an effort to] eliminate these hurdles that stand in the way of thousands of youth – those who crave for knowledge, but face these hurdles and obstacles, and they are not able [to do anything] except to submit to these [hurdles, obstacles etc] that are beyond [one’s control]. [Marhaban Yaa Taalibal Ilm’ page 217 – 218. slightly paraphrased]

One of The Crucial Roles of Muslim Telecommunications Regulators In The Muslim Lands

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Worldly Blessings Are to Be Utilized For Piety and Not Sin

Allaah [The Most High] said:

In order that you may mount on their backs, and then may remember the Favour of your Lord when you mount thereon, and say: ”Glory to Him Who has subjected this to us, and we could never have it (by our efforts). And verily, to Our Lord we indeed are to return!” (43:13-14)

Imaam as-Sadi [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said:

Mentioned (in the above ayah) are the three pillars of gratitude and they are: To acknowledge Allaah’s blessings, Speak about them and Praise Allah for it, Submit to Allah and utilize these blessings to carry out acts of worship for the sake of Allaah (alone). That is because the intent behind the statement of Allah: [وَإِنَّا إِلَىٰ رَبِّنَا لَمُنقَلِبُونَ – And verily, to Our Lord we indeed are to return] is an acknowledgement of the recompense and to be prepared for it. The objective behind these favours is that they are an aid by way of which the slave (seeks) to fulfil that which Allah has commanded him (i.e. acts of worship and obedience etc)

And regarding Allaah’s saying: [ثُمَّ تَذْكُرُوا نِعْمَةَ رَبِّكُمْ إِذَا اسْتَوَيْتُمْ – And then may remember the favour of your Lord when you mount thereon]- Meaning, this is a specific mention of the (favour) in that instance (i.e. at the time in which the person enjoys those favours) because blessings intoxicates many amongst the creation, makes them heedless, evil and ungrateful. Therefore, this state in which Allah commanded (a person to remember Allah for His Favours) is a medication for this destructive ailment. When the slave recalls that he is completely surrounded by the blessings of Allah and that nothing is from him (or herself), but rather blessings are (from Allah) -its means are facilitated and its obtainment made easy (by Allaah)- he (she) submits to Allah, humbles him (or herself), thanks and Praises Allaah. And by way of this he (or she) is given continuous blessings. (a)

Enjoining Good And Forbidding Evil

Allaah [The Most High] said: [وَلْتَكُن مِّنكُمْ أُمَّةٌ يَدْعُونَ إِلَى الْخَيْرِ وَيَأْمُرُونَ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ وَيَنْهَوْنَ عَنِ الْمُنكَرِ ۚ – Let there arise out of you a group of people inviting to all that is good and forbidding Al-evil]. (1)

Indeed, it is pleasing to the hearts when one comes across the noble task being fulfilled by Muslim telecommunications authorities in the Muslim lands. They constantly pursue the loose tongues hiding behind apps – those who desire moral decadence, corruption and instability in Muslim lands. The Muslim rulers have a right to protect their societies from the loose tongues, especially the Khawaarij, revolutionaries, the militant secularists, militant liberalists etc. Muslim governments have a right to block apps that are in operation without proper license, maintain tight controls, establish cybercrime laws based on the Qur’aan and the authentic Sunnah and anyone who violates these laws must face consequences. Al-Allaamah Rabee Bin Haadee Al-Madkhalee [may Allaah preserve him] stated – when he mentioned the worldly sciences- “These sciences become a trial and tribulation if they are not placed below (and regulated by) the knowledge which Muhammad [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] brought”. (2)

Therefore, blocking the people and the owners of those apps that promote immorality and instability is a noble act of enjoining good and forbidding evil. Imaam Abdul Azeez Bin Baaz [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “Stopping wrong is obligated on all Muslims according to their ability because the Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said, ‘Whoever of you sees evil [i.e. that which is clearly declared an evil deed in Qur’aan and authentic Sunnah], then let him stop it with their hand; and if he is not able to do so, then with his tongue; and if he cannot, then with his heart, and that is the weakest of faith’. (3)

However, stopping evil with the hand must be based on ability and should not result in greater corruption or evil. A man has the right to rectify matters with his hand in his home [i.e. based on what the law of the land allows him]; a manager has the authority to make changes with the hand within the organization they are responsible for, in accordance with the instructions that were given to them [i.e. the authority given to them by the state authorities]; otherwise, people should not change with their hand anything they are not authorised to change. If they do make changes in matters they have not been given authority, this will result in more evil and great corruption between them and the people and between the people and the state. In this case they should stop evil with their tongue (by speaking out). They may say, ‘O such and such! Fear Allaah! This is not permissible; this is Haraam, or this is obligated on you’, and clarify it with evidence from Sharee’ah. [NB: In the UK, objecting to certain behaviour can be viewed as harassment or verbal abuse, therefore a Muslim should be aware of what the law allows him before he says or does anything whilst living in the West]. As for stopping something with the hand, this should be done where one has authority, such as one’s home [i.e. within what the law allows]- with those under one’s responsibility, or those authorized by the ruler, such as organizations given permission and authority to enjoin Good. They should make changes in accordance with the authority they have been given- in the way prescribed by the Sharee’ah, without exceeding their jurisdiction. The same applies to the governor of a city; he should make changes with his hand, in accordance with the instructions he has been given”. (4)

So, just as the Muslim rulers have a right to maintain stability and fight crime in the land by stopping every individual who seeks to spread corruption in person, likewise they have a right to stop those who seek to corrupt the citizens whilst hiding behind these apps.  Their gathering behind these apps is nothing but corruption and is devoid of all good. Allaah [The Exalted] said:

There is no good in most of their secret talks save (in) him who orders Sadaqah (charity in Allaah’s Cause), or Ma’roof (Islamic Monotheism and all the good and righteous deeds which Allaah has ordained), or conciliation between mankind. (5)

Meaning: There is no good in most of their private conversations; therefore, if there is no good in it, then there will be no benefit in it, such as excessive permissible speech, speech that is evil and completely harmful and all types of unlawful speech. Then Allaah [Glorified be He and free is He from all imperfections] made an exception, saying: [إِلَّا مَنۡ أَمَرَ بِصَدَقَةٍ – Save (in) him who orders Sadaqah (charity in Allaah’s Cause)]- Meaning: through wealth, knowledge or any means of benefit. And included in this are the lesser acts of worship, such as Tasbeeh [the utterance of Subhaanallaah] and Tahmeed [the utterance of Alhamdulil-laah] and what is similar, as the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said, “Indeed, every Tasbeeh (utterance of Subhaanallaah) is sadaqah, and every Takbeer (utterance of Allaahu Akbar) is Sadaqah, and every Tahleel (utterance of Laa-ilaaha-ilal-lah) is Sadaqah, and Enjoining Good is Sadaqah, and Forbidding Evil is Sadaqah, and even when one of you has sexual intercourse [with his wife], there is Sadaqah in that”.

Then Allaah [Glorified be He and free is He from all imperfections] said: [أَوۡ مَعۡرُوفٍ – Or (one) who orders Maruf] – Meaning: perfection in worship and obedience, every good in the Islamic legislation and everything whose goodness is known by way of sound intellect [i.e. not in opposition to the Islamic legislation]. And whenever ‘Enjoining Good’ is mentioned and ‘Forbidding Evil’ is not mentioned alongside it, ‘Forbidding Evil’ is also included.  That is because to abandon what is prohibited is part of good deeds and good deeds cannot be complete except by abandoning evil.  And in relation to [dealing] with companions [or associates], Ma’roof is explained to mean commanding [good] and Munkar means to abandon what is prohibited. (6)

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

O you who believe! When you hold secret counsel, do it not for sin and wrong-doing, and disobedience towards the Messenger (Muhammad ) but do it for Al-Birr (righteousness) and Taqwa (virtues and piety); and fear Allah unto Whom you shall be gathered. Secret counsels (conspiracies) are only from Shaitan (Satan), in order that he may cause grief to the believers. But he cannot harm them in the least, except as Allah permits, and in Allah let the believers put their trust. (7)

May Allaah increase the Muslim rulers in good, rectify our affairs and their affairs, and protect the Ummah from every plotter – internal and external – Aameen.
