[4] Mischief and Mischief Makers In The Earth – [Those Who Utilise Wealth And Power to Pursue Goals Other Than The Ones Beloved to Allaah]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

Allaah (The Most high) said:

Verily, Qarun (Korah) was of Musa’s (Moses) people, but he behaved arrogantly towards them. And We gave him of the treasures, that of which the keys would have been a burden to a body of strong men. When his people said to him: “Do not be glad (with ungratefulness to Allah’s Favours). Verily! Allah likes not those who are glad (with ungratefulness to Allah’s Favours).

But seek, with that (wealth) which Allah has bestowed on you, the home of the Hereafter, and forget not your portion of legal enjoyment in this world, and do good as Allah has been good to you, [وَلَا تَبۡغِ ٱلۡفَسَادَ فِى ٱلۡأَرۡضِ‌ۖ – and seek not mischief in the land]- meaning: through pride, disobedience (to Allaah), preoccupying yourself with the blessings (bestowed upon you by Allaah) at the expense of (obedience to Allaah, being thankful etc) [Ref 1]; [إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يُحِبُّ ٱلۡمُفۡسِدِينَ -. Verily, Allah likes not the Mufsidun (those who commit great crimes and sins, oppressors, tyrants, mischief-makers, corrupts).

He said: “This has been given to me only because of knowledge I possess.” Did he not know that Allah had destroyed before him generations, men who were stronger than him in might and greater in the amount (of riches) they had collected. But the Mujrimun (criminals, disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, etc.) will not be questioned of their sins (because Allah knows them well, so they will be punished without account).

Al-Allaamah Rabee Bin Haadee Al-Madkhalee [hafidhahullaah] said:

They (i.e. the people) rebuke him (i.e. Qaaroon) because he did not want to spend from his wealth based on what Allaah has commanded, so Allaah said that he said: [إِنَّمَآ أُوتِيتُهُ ۥ عَلَىٰ عِلۡمٍ عِندِىٓ‌ۚ  – This (i.e. vast wealth) has been given to me only because of knowledge I possess. [Surah Al-Qasas’ Aayah 78]

Likewise, Allaah said: [وَإِذَآ أَنۡعَمۡنَا عَلَى ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنِ أَعۡرَضَ وَنَـَٔا بِجَانِبِهِ – And when We bestow Our Grace on man (the disbeliever), he turns away and becomes arrogant, far away from the Right Path. [Surah Al-Israa’ Aayah 83]

[Allaah said]: [ثُمَّ إِذَا خَوَّلۡنَـٰهُ نِعۡمَةً۬ مِّنَّا قَالَ إِنَّمَآ أُوتِيتُهُ ۥ عَلَىٰ عِلۡمِۭ‌ۚ بَلۡ هِىَ فِتۡنَةٌ۬ وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكۡثَرَهُمۡ لَا يَعۡلَمُونَ  – Then when We have (rescued him from that harm and) changed it into a favour from Us, he says: “Only because of knowledge (that I possess) I obtained it.” Nay, it is only a trial, but most of them know not! [Surah Az-Zumar’ Aayah 49]

Allaah said that he [i.e. the ungrateful human being says after being rescued from hardship]: [قَالَ إِنَّمَآ أُوتِيتُهُ ۥ عَلَىٰ عِلۡمِۭ‌ۚ  – he says: “Only because of knowledge (that I possess) I obtained it]; but Allaah said: [ وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكۡثَرَهُمۡ لَا يَعۡلَمُونَ – Nay, it is only a trial, but most of them know not!]

These sciences (i.e. worldly sciences) become a trial and tribulation if they are not placed below (or regulated by) the knowledge which Muhammad [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] brought. [Ref 2]

So he went forth before his people in his pomp. Those who were desirous of the life of the world, said: “Ah, would that we had the like of what Qarun (Korah) has been given? Verily! He is the owner of a great fortune.”

But those who had been given (religious) knowledge said: “Woe to you! The Reward of Allah (in the Hereafter) is better for those who believe and do righteous good deeds, and this none shall attain except those who are patient (in following the truth).”

So We caused the earth to swallow him and his dwelling place. Then he had no group or party to help him against Allah, nor was he one of those who could save themselves.

And those who had desired (for a position like) his position the day before, began to say: “Know you not that it is Allah Who enlarges the provision or restricts it to whomsoever He pleases of His slaves. Had it not been that Allah was Gracious to us, He could have caused the earth to swallow us up (also)! Know you not that the disbelievers will never be successful.

That home of the Hereafter (i.e. Paradise), We shall assign to those who rebel not against the truth with pride and oppression in the land nor do mischief by committing crimes. And the good end is for the Muttaqun [28:76-83]

Al-Allaamah Rabee Bin Haadee Al-Madkhalee [may Allaah preserve him] said: “The home of the Hereafter is prepared for those who are humble for the sake of Allaah, and whoever humbles himself for the sake of Allaah, Allaah will raise him. As for the haughty, Allaah hates them and their destination is the fire – and Allaah’s Refuge is sought. Major Kufr and Bidah stops a person from (receiving) the pleasure that is (found) in the truth and guidance brought by the Prophets, and that which purifies the souls. [Ref 3]

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [rahimahullaah] said:

Allaah brought the servant out of his mother’s womb whilst he knew nothing, not able to do anything and owned nothing; neither able to give nor take; neither able to harm nor benefit. This state of neediness until he reached a more perfect state is something witnessed and tangible for everyone [to see], and i is well known that this is the very essence of the human being and he remains upon that state. He does not move from this state and enters into a state of Lordship – a state in which he becomes absolutely self-sufficient and not need of anyone and anything; rather he does not cease being a slave, a needy one to his Rabb [Allaah the Creator, All-Provider and the Only One Who Controls and Sustains Everything] and His Faatir [Allaah, The Originator and Creator of Everything].

However, after the human being was granted blessings, shown mercy, granted the means to reach a more perfect state, and Allaah -out of His Perfect Kindness and Generosity- granted him  apparent blessings [i.e. to recognise the Messengers who were sent with Islamic Monotheism, granted him the lawful pleasures of this world, including health, good looks, etc.] and the hidden blessings [i.e. granted him the  innate disposition to recognise his Lord when the Messenger calls him to Eemaan, and granted him knowledge, wisdom, guidance for doing righteous deeds, and also the pleasures and delights of the Hereafter in Paradise, etc.], granted  him hearing, sight and a heart, and taught him [i.e. gave him the means to knowledge], granted him ability, subjugated things to him, granted him [the desire and enthusiasm to pursue what is beneficial, and take action], enabled him to receive the service of those of his kind [i.e. gave him authority over other humans], subjugated to him horses and camels, gave him the ability to capture the animals in the sea, drop birds from the sky, subjugate wild animals, dig wells [irrigate water etc], plant trees, dig the earth, learn how to build, acquire the things that are of benefit to him, guard against and protect himself from that which is harmful to him; then the Miskeen [i.e. this absolutely poor, dependent human being] thinks that he has a share of authority and claims – for himself – a kingship [or authority] similar to that of Allaah [Glorified be Allaah and free is Allaah from all imperfections, partners, coequals, similarities etc], and begins to see himself in a manner other than what he was at first, forgets his [prior] state of non-existence, poverty and neediness, until he becomes as if he was not that poor and needy thing. [Ref 4]

Population Growth

According to scientists, another cause of poverty is population growth in countries that cannot afford to feed the extra mouths. Most rich countries have a stable population with roughly as much babies born as people dying. However, in poor countries, the populations seem to be increasing. Muslims, as rule, are not allowed to use contraception due to fear of not being able to provide for their children – they learn from the Quran that Allah will enrich them from Himself from ways and means that He provides. Population control measures are not from the Islamically legislated means to remove poverty – this is proven by the fact that there is sufficient food and resources in the world to feed the poor many times over daily! Added to that is the reality that large populations are a tremendous resource for a nation. Countries with large populations are quite often the wealthiest, and have the fastest growing economies. Note: In certain situations contraception is permitted and I have discussed that elsewhere. https://www.abukhadeejah.com/birth-control-using-contraception-gaps-between-children/

Islam teaches that poor people must be helped with education, skills, charity, better infrastructure and better health care. In this way the poor are not neglected and the wealth of the rich is purified in the sight of Allāh through the giving of charity. People have large families because the family unit helps each other and they care for their elders. Death of young children is much higher in poorer countries due to sicknesses and disease. So the Muslims have a duty to help the poor, even if they are non-Muslims. The Prophet (ﷺ) said: “Give charity to people of other Religions.” (Shaikh Al-Albānī said it was an authentic Hadīth, in As-Saheehah).

The figures that relate to the rate of death in children is called the infant mortality rate. In Somalia, 192 children die out of a 1000 that are born. In Mali, 199 children die out of a 1000 that are born. In Britain, 6 children die out of a 1000 that are born. Aid is to help or assist people in need – a very important aspect of Islam. People usually do this by donating directly to poor people, or through Zakat to Muslim governments or to recognised charities.

Economic Reasons:

The way that countries buy and sell with each other does not always help people in poor countries. Producers of crops like wheat and rice will usually sell to the country that will pay them the most for it, so poor countries cannot compete and therefore cannot buy crops to feed their people. So these poor people have to grow their own crops to feed themselves. In many poor countries the rich farmers grow cash crops such as fruit and flowers that they sell to rich countries and their profit often does not help the poor people. So the Muslim is always encouraged to give aid to those less fortunate, so that no one in the land remains hungry, unclothed or unsheltered. Islam has no problem with people becoming wealthy so long as the poor not are neglected; they must be taken care of, helped, educated and empowered to look after themselves. Wealthier Muslims are obligated to give in charity (zakāt) every year, and each Ramadān (zakāt al-fitr). The Praiseworthy Goals to Be Sought After In Medical Practice

Medical practice is one of the noblest occupations because its subject matter deals with life of the human being. Its aim and purpose is to preserve health, strengthen physical well-being and distance a person from illness. The need for medicine is great and a person is in need of it in all circumstances, because one is in need of good health in order to carry out work and fulfil obligations in this life, which is the purpose behind the creation of the human being. Allaah [The Most High] said: [وَمَا خَلَقْتُ الْجِنَّ وَالْإِنسَ إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُونِ – And I (Allah) created not the jinns and humans except they should worship Me (Alone)]. [Surah Adh-Dhaariyaat. Aayah 56]

So the aim behind medicine is to preserve health, strengthen the body’s physical well-being and distance it from illness. Among the virtues of medicine is that it preserves life and this is one of the five necessities which Islaam preserves, namely religion, life, intellect (or the mind), lineage and wealth. It helps a Muslim and the society to repel harm, as it is well known that the Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said: [ لا ضرر ولا ضرار – There should be neither harming nor reciprocating harm]. [Ref 1]

It fulfils the obligation of co-operating upon righteousness and piety. Allaah said:

Help you one another in Al-Birr and At-Taqwa (virtue, righteousness and piety)]. [Surah Al-Maa’idah. Aayah 2]

It fulfils the command of the Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] found in the hadeeth of Usaamah bin Shareek [may Allaah be pleased with him] that a Bedouin said, “O Messenger of Allaah! Should we seek medical treatment?”  He said, “Seek medical treatment, because Allaah has not created any disease, except that He has also created a remedy for it, except for one disease: old age”. [Ref 2]

One should hope for Allaah’s reward and good recompense, sincere to Allaah in such a profession and not to practice medicine only for their status to be acknowledged; rather one should be sincere and hope for Allaah’s reward. Alqamah Ibn Waqqaas Al-Laythiy said, “I heard Umar Ibn Al-khattaab [may Allaah be pleased with him] saying whilst on the minbar, ‘I heard the Messenger of Allaah [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] saying, ‘Actions are (judged) by intentions and every person will have what he intended. So he whose migration was for Allah and His Messenger, his migration is for Allah and His Messenger. And he whose migration was for some worldly (gain) or for a woman to marry, then his migration is for that which he migrated’” [Ref 3]

The doctor must fear Allaah with regards to those affairs about which one is consulted, especially that which is related to the rights of the people, such as when a sick person approaches him for a sick note or when in need of a medical note to prove that he is fit for employment or when consulted regarding a particular type of medication, or whether the state of health of an individual (woman) allows her to utilise contraception in order not to get pregnant, or whether her state of health warrants the removal of her ovaries. It has been reported in a hadeeth by Abu Hurairah [may Allaah be pleased with him] who said that the Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said: [الْمُسْتَشَارُ مُؤْتَمَنٌ – The consultee is in a position of trust]. [Ref 4]

Few Reminders From The Above Hadeeth:

[الْمُسْتَشَارُ مُؤْتَمَنٌ   – The consultee is in a position of trust]

[المستشار -The Consultee]: He is the one whose opinion is sought regarding an affair of Maslahah (i.e. an affair that will bring about benefit and repel harm). He is in a position of trust with regards to what he is asked and it is not permissible for him to deceive the one who consults him, by concealing the affair that would bring about benefit. [Ref 5]

This hadeeth is an evidence to show that the consultee has to (advise) with the course of action  and opinion -in relation to the consultation – he would choose for himself and it is not permissible that he directs his Muslim brother to something he would not be pleased with for himself. [Ref 6]

The Muslim doctor should not make the patient a means of experimenting the effectiveness of a medication, especially if he fears that there would be severe side effects, because this experimentation would negate the honour Allaah has bestowed on the children of Aadam. Allaah [The Most High] said:

[وَلَقَدۡ كَرَّمۡنَا بَنِىٓ ءَادَمَ وَحَمَلۡنَـٰهُمۡ فِى ٱلۡبَرِّ وَٱلۡبَحۡرِ وَرَزَقۡنَـٰهُم مِّنَ ٱلطَّيِّبَـٰتِ وَفَضَّلۡنَـٰهُمۡ عَلَىٰ ڪَثِيرٍ۬ مِّمَّنۡ خَلَقۡنَا تَفۡضِيلاً۬ – And indeed We have honoured the Children of Adam, and We have carried them on land and sea, and have provided them with At-Taiyibat(lawful good things), and have preferred them above many of those whom We have created with a marked preference]. [Surah Al-Is’raa Aayah 70]

This deed [i.e. using the patient as a means to experimenting the effectiveness of a medication] negates the command given to person to safeguard the blood of a Muslim. The Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said, “A Muslim is the brother of another Muslim, so he should not oppress him, nor should he hand him over to an oppressor. Whoever fulfilled the needs of his brother, Allaah will fulfil his needs; whoever brought his [Muslim] brother out of discomfort, Allaah will bring him out of a discomfort from the discomforts of the Day of Resurrection, and whoever screened a Muslim, Allaah will screen him on the Day of Resurrection. [Ref 7]

If the Muslim doctor is certain that the harm [or side effects] that will result from the medication is lesser than the harm caused by the continuation of the illness, then it is permissible to give the medication based on choosing the lesser harm between two.

The Muslim doctor should ask the scholars regarding affairs that occur in his profession and should not jump into affairs without background knowledge of the Islamic legislation!  He should be careful of (Sigmund) Freud’s absurdities, fictitious and false views and should not be deceived by (Charles) Darwin. Abu Hurairah [may Allaah be pleased with him] said that the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said, ‘’A slave (of Allaah) may utter a word which pleases Allaah, without giving it much importance, and because of that Allaah will raise him to degrees (of reward); and a slave (of Allaah) may utter a word (carelessly) which displeases Allaah, without thinking of its gravity, and because of that he will be thrown into the Hell-fire.’’ [Ref 8]

The Muslim doctor should be careful of what is transmitted in the medical journals (or textbooks) and he should not accept everything transmitted in them without ascertaining its correctness, for indeed knowledge is established either through a trustworthy transmission or an unquestionable view point. The affairs of medicine attributed to the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] should be checked as to whether their chains of transmission are authentic, and the affairs of medicine that are established by way of opinions [i.e. through study and research etc] should be examined to find out whether they are [sound, unsound, or whether they contain flaws, sin, offence etc]. He should not be an easy and legitimate prey whom the enemies of Allaah use as a means to transmit that which opposes the Religion of Islaam and causes harm to the Muslims; rather he should know that everything that comes to him regarding modern medicine has to be subjected to research and has to be ascertained.

The doctor should believe that his knowledge of medicine is nothing else but only a means (of cure). As for the effects and effectiveness (of the cure), it is decided by Allaah (The Mighty and Majestic) if He (Allaah) wishes to give cure and well-being. Allaah (The Most High) stated (that Ibraaheem- alayhis-salaam said): [وَإِذَا مَرِضْتُ فَهُوَ يَشْفِينِ – And when I (i.e. Ibraaheem) am ill, it is He (Allaah) who cures me]. [26:80] So Allaah is the one who gives cure and not others. The doctor should make this known to the patient.

The doctor should be pleased with the Divine Will and Decree of Allaah. Abdullaah Ibn Abbaas [may Allaah be pleased with him and his father] said, “Once I was riding behind the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] so he said, ‘O young man! I shall teach you some words (of advice). Be mindful of Allaah, and Allaah will protect you. Be mindful of Allaah, and you will find Him in front of you. If you ask, ask Allaah (Alone). If you seek help, seek help from Allaah (alone). Know that if the nation were to gather together to benefit you with something, they would not benefit with anything except that which Allaah has already recorded for you. If they gather to harm you by something, they would not be able to harm you by anything except what Allaah has already recorded against you. The pens have been lifted and the pages have dried’’. [Ref 9]

So neither should a doctor be beguiled by his (or her) knowledge of medicine nor raise objections against Allaah’s Power and Position. He (or she) should know that the affairs of the creation alternate based on Allaah’s decree.

The Evil That Will Accompany Worldly Sciences When Isolated From The Sound Divine Moral Guidelines of The Final Messenger to Humankind – [By Imaam As-Sadi]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Imaam As-Sadi [rahimahullaah] said:

Industrialization and Modern Inventions: Everyone has participated in it – the righteous, the wicked, the believer and the disbeliever. As for religion and (virtuous) manners, then indeed -in this era- it has greatly declined. So, when this industrial advancement is devoid of Religion and Eemaan, it became a great harm from two angles:

Firstly: It beguiled many people, who – due of their ignorance – think that worldly advancement is proof to show that its people are more worthy of achieving every good than others. They are clearly misguided, because a person maybe from the most skilful  in affairs related to the material world, whilst he is one of the most ignorant people in affairs related to the religion, virtuous manners and the (other) beneficial affairs in this life and the next.

Secondly: When these inventions are devoid of religion- its mercy and wisdom, it becomes a great disaster for humankind due to the wars that resulted from them, killing, destruction and other affairs related to it. Its regulators (or overseers) and scholars are unable to laydown – for humankind -a stable, just and good life; rather they have not ceased moving from one miserable state to another. This is inevitable and the continuous state of affairs shows that (to be the case). Therefore, all good is found in the sound religion and all evil is found in rejecting and wilfully denying (Allaah, His Messengers, His Laws, Guidance, Commands, Prohibitions etc) [Ref 1]

He [rahimahullaah] also said:

Among the most amazing of affairs is that many contemporary writers and politicians seek to remedy the many social ills and try to do so do from many angles, however as for the problem of atheism (or deviation from sound divine guidance) whose surge has carried away the majority of young people, they have not rushed to stop it by returning to sound Eemaan and certainty; rather they have been  abandoned to wander blindly in their misguidance and wavering in beguilement, and thus the social ills they seek to remedy gives birth to other social ills, because if the path to remedying social ills is not based on Eemaan and sound Religion, they will increase and become worse. [3] Mischief and Mischief Makers In The Earth- [Be Alert Whenever Mischief Makers – (Deceivers, Concealers, Spin Doctors, Evaders etc) – Claim That They Are Rectifiers of Religious and Worldly Affairs]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful The Bestower of Mercy.

Allaah [The Most High] said:

And when it is said to them: ‘’Make not mischief on the earth,” they say: “We are only peacemakers. Verily! They are the ones who make mischief, but they perceive not. And when it is said to them [hypocrites]: ‘’Believe as the people [followers of Muhammad (sallal laahu alayhi wasallam) have believed,’’ they say: ‘’Shall we believe as the fools have believed?’’ Verily, they are the fools, but they know not. [Surah Al-Baqarah. Aayaat 11-13]

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [rahimahullaah] said:

This debate took place between the believers and the hypocrites; the believers said to them, ‘’Make not mischief on the earth’’; the hypocrites replied, ‘’We are only peacemakers.’’ So, it seemed as if the debate between the two partners has ended, and that the hypocrites have nullified the claims of the people of Eemaan that they are mischief makers and [proved] that peace making is what should be attributed to them instead of mischief making. So, Allaah [The All-Mighty, The All-Wise] passed a judgement between the two parties and established four proofs against the hypocrites.

Firstly: They are liars. Secondly: They are mischief makers. Thirdly: They are trapped in mischief making. They are the ones who make mischief]. Fourthly: Allaah described them as a people who are upon extreme ignorance and that they definitely do not possess [sound] perception due to the fact that they are mischief makers.

So, ponder upon the way in which perception was negated from them in this Aayah! Then knowledge was negated from them when Allaah [The Most High] stated that they said: [أَنُؤۡمِنُ كَمَآ ءَامَنَ ٱلسُّفَهَآءُ‌ۗ   – Shall we believe as the fools have believed], so Allaah [The Most High] said: [أَلَآ إِنَّهُمۡ هُمُ ٱلسُّفَهَآءُ وَلَـٰكِن لَّا يَعۡلَمُونَ   -verily, they are the fools, but they know not].

Allaah [The Most High] negated knowledge from them due to their foolishness and lack of [sound] perception -a severe dispraise and [declaration] of their ignorance, because [of the fact that although one is truly] a mischief maker, [however he] is completely unaware of it, even though its effects is well known and witnessed by Allaah’s slaves. This shows the severe corruption of one’s intellect and sources of knowledge.

Also, he is a foolish person and foolishness is the height of ignorance, which occurs due to lack of knowledge of that which benefits him in his worldly life, his afterlife, his purpose [of life] and what is contrary to that. So, when he [finds] himself in this situation, whilst being unaware of his state of affairs, then this is the most wretched state of a human being.

[Sound] knowledge was negated from him due to his foolishness, which of a surety is an affirmation of his ignorance; [and sound] perception was negated from him due to the mischief making, which of a surety is due to corruption in his mental faculties. Therefore, these three verses are statements of absolute certainty against them regarding their ignorance and corrupt mental faculties, because they believe that mischief making is peace making and that evil is something good. [Ref 1]

Imaam Fudayl Ibn Iyaad (rahimahullaah) said:

“O miserable one! You are disobedient yet you see yourself as a good-doer; you are ignorant yet you see yourself as a scholar; you are miserly yet you see yourself as a generous person; you are an idiot yet you see yourself as a sensible person, and your lifespan is short yet your hopes are prolonged”.

Imaam Dhahabi (rahimahullaah) said:

“I swear by Allaah, (Fudayl) spoke the truth! You (O miserable one) are an oppressor yet you see yourself as one who is oppressed; you eat haraam yet you see yourself as one who fears (Allaah); you are a rebellious evil person yet you see yourself as someone who is just; you seek knowledge for the sake of the worldly things yet you see yourself as one who seeks it for the sake of Allaah”. [2] Mischief and Mischief Makers In The Earth– [Uplifting – (A Righteous Group Always Remained In The Earth Even When Previous Nations Became Extremely Corrupted)]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

If only there had been among the generations before you, persons having wisdom, prohibiting (others) from Al-Fasad (disbelief, polytheism, and all kinds of crimes and sins) in the earth, except a few of those whom We saved from among them. Those who did wrong pursued the enjoyment of good things of (this worldly) life, and were Mujrimun (criminals, disbelievers in Allah, polytheists, sinners, etc.). [Surah Hud. Aayah 116]

Allaah mentioned the nations that were destroyed due to disbelief in the Messengers and that many of those nations were deviants, including those who received scriptures, and all of that could lead to the disappearance and annihilation of the (sound) religion had He not placed amongst them some of the righteous people who called to guidance, forbade corruption and evil, and thus some benefit remained in the sound religion, even though they were very few. The end result of the affair was that they were saved due to following the  Messengers, adherence to that which the Messengers adhered to in their religion and Allaah’s proofs were established through them, so that those who were to be destroyed (for their rejecting the Faith) might be destroyed after a clear evidence, and those who were to live (i.e. believers) might live after a clear evidence.

However, [وَٱتَّبَعَ ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُواْ مَآ أُتۡرِفُواْ فِيهِ – Those who did wrong pursued the enjoyment of good things of (this worldly) life]: Meaning, they carried on in a state of enjoyment and luxury (that was accompanied by sinning, disbelief, ungratefulness to Allaah) and did not desire anything as a replacement. [وَكَانُواْ مُجۡرِمِينَ  – And were Mujrimun (criminals, disbelievers in Allah, polytheists, sinners, etc)]: Meaning, wrong-doers due to pursuing a life of luxury (that was accompanied with sinning, disbelief, ungratefulness to Allaah etc) and thus the punishment was justified against them and they were annihilated. This affair contains motivation for this Ummah (by way of a command) that there has to be among them those who rectify what the people have corrupted – adhering to the religion ordained by Allaah, calling – to guidance – those who have gone astray, patiently bearing the harm received from people and showing them guidance after being blinded in misguidance.  This station is the highest one desired by those who desire it, and the one who reaches it will be a righteous leader in religious affairs if he performs his deeds sincerely for the sake of Allaah. [Ref 1]

The Aided Group Until The Day of Judgement

The Prophet [sallal laahu-alayhi wasallam] said:

“There will not cease to be a group amongst my Ummah upon the truth; neither will they be harmed by those who betray them nor those who oppose them until the command of Allaah arrives [i.e. the day of judgement]”. [Bukhaari]

Al-Allaamah Saaleh Al-Fawzaan [may Allaah preserve him] says:

This group will not cease to exist in the Ummah. The Ummah will not be deprived of this Sunni Group. This Taa’ifah can be one group. If it adheres to the Qur’aan and the Sunnah, it is the Taa’ifah Al-Mansoorah [The Victorious Group], even if it is only one. The Ummah will not lose this Sunni Group, this good group, and all praise be to Allaah – until the command of Allaah comes to pass [i.e. the day of judgment]. ‘They will not be harmed by those who forsake them’.  Amongst the people are those who forsake them and those who oppose them, but they will not be harmed. This is from Allaah’s Grace upon His servants and that He will establish the truth for the one who aids the truth and call to it, even if evil is rife. There will be those who adhere to good, call to it and disseminate it amongst the people. Not all the Ummah will be misguided, but some will remain upon truth, but they might be strangers [i.e. their affair will be strange to the people], just as the Prophet [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] said, “Islam began as a strange thing and it will return as a strange thing, and glad tidings to the strangers”, so they said, ‘Who are the strangers O Messenger of Allaah? He said, ‘They are those who will be upright when the people become corrupt’.. and in another version of this hadeeth, “Those who rectify what the people have corrupted’. These are the strangers, because the majority of the people oppose them, belittle, forsake and keep away from what they are upon, but this will not harm them, “They will never be harmed by those who forsake them nor by those who oppose them’. Allaah will make them remain so that His Proofs remain amongst the creation until the end of time. This group might be in the East, the West, or the North etc…They are not in a specific place, but they are present. Whoever wants will find it. It is present and all praise is due to Allaah. Alhamdulil laah, we – at present – are upon a correct methodology, upon a sound methodology; our methodology is that which the Qur’aan and sunnah necessitate, our learning is based upon the Qur’aan and the Sunnah. We study Tafseer, hadeeth and its explanation, the Aqeedah of the pious predecessors and that which they were upon. Alhamadulil laah at present we are upon a correct path, a sound methodology and straight path. We ask Allaah to keep us firm upon it until we meet him, neither substituting nor changing it. Al-Allaamah Rabee Bin Haadee [may Allaah preserve him] says:

It is obligated on the Taa’ifatul Mansoorah [i.e. the aided group] – those whom Allaah’s Messenger gave glad tidings that they will remain [upon truth] and will be aided, neither harmed by those who betray them nor by those who oppose them till the end of time – to establish [sound] brotherhood for the sake of Allaah, co-operate upon righteousness and piety, roll up their sleeves and get to work, so that this great status is maintained, which is that they will be manifest upon the truth, neither harmed by those who forsake them nor by those who oppose them. And acquaintance with the truth cannot be [reached] except by way of the knowledge inherited from the Prophets and Messengers [alayhimus salaam], and from the seal of the Prophets [i.e. the Messenger Muhammad (sallal laahu alayhi wasallam)]. The scholars are the inheritors of the [knowledge left behind by] the Prophets in calling to the path of Allaah, [in propagating] Allaah’s Message to [mankind], and in enjoining good and forbidding evil. The Two Basis of Extreme Corruption In Society – [By Imaam Ibnul Qayyim]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [rahimahullaah] said:

Everyone with a bit of (sound) intellect knows that the corruption of the world and its ruin occurs due to giving precedence to opinion over the divine revelation and (evil) desires over sound intellect. These two corrupt motives are not entrenched in a heart except that its destruction becomes inevitable nor in a nation except that its affairs are completely corrupted. [Ref 1]

He [rahimahullaah] also stated: It has been stated that the reason behind Iblees being distanced [from the mercy of Allaah] is because of false interpretation, for indeed he made an analogy with the text and gave precedence to the analogy over the text. He made a false interpretation about himself and that  [his so called] rational analogy takes precedence over the command to prostrate. [Allaah informed us that Iblees said]: [أنا خير منه – I am better than him [i.e. Aadam], and that a virtuous one cannot humble himself to one who has been given virtue over him; therefore he quickly said [as Allaah informed us that Iblees said]: [خلقتني من نار وخلقته من طين – You created me from fire, and him you created from clay].

Therefore, he thought that this rational analogy that resembles truth- even though it is false – will benefit him in his false interpretation. So, that which happened him happened and he became the leader of everyone- until the day of judgement- who makes a false interpretation of the texts of the revelation. How many a person in this world are followers of this cursed leader! And if you contemplate on the majority of those doubts that are made to resemble the truth by the false interpreters of the texts and seeking to nullify them, you will find that it is similar to the doubts of Iblees which he seeks to portray as truth.

So, a person says: If the intellect and the text oppose each other, then give precedence to the intellect. This is where this principle is derived from and he [i.e. the proponent of this affair] use it as a fundamental principle through which he rejects those texts of the revelation which he claims are in opposition to the intellect, just as his leader Iblees claimed that a [so called] rational proof opposed the command to make sujood. This doubt came to him due to pride which prevented him from submitting to the clear texts of the revelation. Likewise, you find every false disputer against the texts of the revelation does so due to pride. Allaah [The Exalted] said:

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يُجَادِلُونَ فِي آيَاتِ اللَّهِ بِغَيْرِ سُلْطَانٍ أَتَاهُمْ ۙ إِن فِي صُدُورِهِمْ إِلَّا كِبْرٌ مَّا هُم بِبَالِغِيهِ ۚ فَاسْتَعِذْ بِاللَّهِ ۖ إِنَّهُ هُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْبَصِيرُ

Verily, those who dispute about the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) of Allah, without any authority having come to them, there is nothing else in their breasts except pride [to accept you (Muhammad ) as a Messenger of Allah and to obey you]. They will never have it (i.e. Prophethood which Allah has bestowed upon you). So seek refuge in Allah (O Muhammad from the arrogants). Verily, it is He Who is the All-Hearer, the All-Seer. [Surah Ghaafir. Aayah 56] [Ref 2]

Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah [rahimahullaah] said:

And even though there is something in the paths of analogical reasoning and reflection that will lead to knowledge, however sometimes it cannot give detail explanation in a dispute between the people of the earth due to the minute details and ambiguities [in that dispute], and at other times due to the fact the people differ when prioritising necessities. Therefore, due to this Allaah [The Most High] commanded [us] to return to the revelation in times of dispute. Allaah [The Most High] said: [ كَانَ ٱلنَّاسُ أُمَّةً۬ وَٲحِدَةً۬ فَبَعَثَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلنَّبِيِّـۧنَ مُبَشِّرِينَ وَمُنذِرِينَ وَأَنزَلَ مَعَهُمُ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبَ بِٱلۡحَقِّ لِيَحۡكُمَ بَيۡنَ ٱلنَّاسِ فِيمَا ٱخۡتَلَفُواْ فِيهِ‌ۚ -Mankind were one community (i.e. upon Tawheed and Allaah’s Sharee’ah) and Allah sent Prophets with glad tidings and warnings, and with them He sent the Scripture in truth to judge between people in matters wherein they differed]. [Surah Al-Baqarah’ Aayah 213] Therefore, Allaah [The Most High] designated the revealed Books [i.e. the Qur’aan being the final of them] as the judge between the people in matters wherein they differ. [Ref 3]

If you say that the intellect is to be given precedence over the revelation, then which intellect should we follow? Are the intellects of the people combined in the intellect of one man or do they differ? There are intellects of the philosophers, the atheists, the heretics, the people of evil desires and those who confound truth with falsehood; and due to this one of the Salaf said, “Had the desires been one, it would have been considered to be the [basis of] truth”; therefore, we say, “Had the intellects been one, it would have been considered to be the [basis of] truth”. [Ref 4]

Shaikh Abu Iyaadh [hafidhahullaah] stated:

The wisdom of the Islamic Shariah: Cut off evils and harms to society from their very roots and enjoy the resulting freedom, ease and wholesome life. In contrast: the barbarity and backwardness of commercialising corrosive evils– usurious banking, alcohol, gambling–in order to profit from the masses through affairs in which their ruin and impoverishment lies–and then managing this commercialisation through legislation, policies, guidelines and so on to “limit the harms”. The result? Inescapable enslavement, bondage, disease and ruin of the masses for the enrichment of the few who peddle these vices. Where is the intellect?! [Ref 5]

Those Before Them – (Namrood, Bakhtanasar, Fir’awn And Their Ilk) – Plotted, But Allaah Struck at The Foundation of Their Building: [Allaah’s Warning to Plotters From All Different Walks of Life Until The Day of Judgement]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Quote

Allaah [The Most High] said:

Those before them indeed plotted, but Allah struck at the foundation of their building, and then the roof fell down upon them, from above them, and the torment overtook them from directions they did not perceive. Then, on the Day of Resurrection, He will disgrace them and will say: “Where are My (so called) ‘partners’ concerning whom you used to disagree and dispute (with the believers, by defying and disobeying Allah)?” Those who have been given the knowledge (about the Torment of Allah for the disbelievers) will say: “Verily! Disgrace this Day and misery are upon the disbelievers. [Surah An-Nahl. Aayah 26-27]

[قَدۡ مَڪَرَ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبۡلِهِمۡ   – Those before them indeed plotted]: The Mufassiroon say that this refers to Namrood who built a tall tower in order to climb – as he claimed – the heavens and fight its inhabitants.

[فَأَتَى ٱللَّهُ بُنۡيَـٰنَهُم مِّنَ ٱلۡقَوَاعِدِ فَخَرَّ عَلَيۡہِمُ ٱلسَّقۡفُ مِن فَوۡقِهِمۡ  – but Allah struck at the foundation of their building, and then the roof fell down upon them, from above them]: The Mufassiroon say: Allaah sent a wind which flung the top of the tower to the sea and the rest was destroyed. [وَأَتَٮٰهُمُ ٱلۡعَذَابُ مِنۡ حَيۡثُ لَا يَشۡعُرُونَ – and the torment overtook them from directions they did not perceive]: Meaning, from where they thought they were safe. [ثُمَّ يَوۡمَ ٱلۡقِيَـٰمَةِ يُخۡزِيهِمۡ   – Then, on the Day of Resurrection, He will disgrace]: Meaning, disgraced with punishment. [1]

[قَدۡ مَڪَرَ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبۡلِهِمۡ   – Those before them indeed plotted]: Meaning plotted against their Messengers, employed various types of tricks in order to reject that which the messengers brought and established gigantic safeguards [by way of arguments, views etc] on their plots. [فَأَتَى ٱللَّهُ بُنۡيَـٰنَهُم مِّنَ ٱلۡقَوَاعِدِ  – but Allah struck at the foundation of their building]– Meaning, an affair came to them from its basis and foundation [فَخَرَّ عَلَيۡہِمُ ٱلسَّقۡفُ مِن فَوۡقِهِمۡ  –  and then the roof fell down upon them, from above them] -Meaning, so what they built became a punishment for them. [وَأَتَٮٰهُمُ ٱلۡعَذَابُ مِنۡ حَيۡثُ لَا يَشۡعُرُونَ – and the torment overtook them from directions they did not perceive]: Meaning, that is because they thought that such a building will benefit and protect them from punishment, but their punishment occurred from that which they built and established.

This is one the best of parables regarding how Allaah nullifies the plots of his enemies, for indeed they pondered and reflected on that which the Messengers brought when they belied them, made up principles and rules for it based on falsehood, referred back to them to reject that which the Messengers came with, employed tricks to bring discomfort to the Messengers and inflict harm on them and those who followed them, but their plot became a source of evil against them, so their plan became their destruction, because their plot was evil as Allaah said: [ وَلَا يَحِيقُ الْمَكْرُ السَّيِّئُ إِلَّا بِأَهْلِهِ – But the evil plot encompasses only him who makes it]. [Soorah Faatir: Ayah: 43]

This is in this worldly life and the punishment in the afterlife would be more disgraceful, and due to this Allaah said: [ثُمَّ يَوۡمَ ٱلۡقِيَـٰمَةِ يُخۡزِيهِمۡ   – Then, on the Day of Resurrection, He will disgrace them]. [2]

Allaah [The Most High] said:

And warn (O Muhammad) mankind of the Day when the torment will come unto them; then the wrong-doers will say: “Our Lord! Respite us for a little while, we will answer Your Call and follow the Messengers!” (It will be said): “Had you not sworn aforetime that you would not leave (the world for the Hereafter). And you dwelt in the dwellings of men who wronged themselves, and it was clear to you how We had dealt with them. And We put forth (many) parables for you.” Indeed, they planned their plot, and their plot was with Allah, though their plot was a great (one, still) it would never be able to remove the mountains. [Surah Ibraaheem. Aayaat 44-46]

[وَقَدۡ مَكَرُواْ مَڪۡرَهُمۡ   – Indeed, they planned their plot, and their plot was with Allaah]: There are four statements of the scholars regarding the above: That it was Namrood when he debated with Ibraaheem about his Lord. That it was about Bakhtanasar. That it is about the nations of the past and their plotting which necessitates Shirk. That it is about those who plotted against the Messenger [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] when they desired to kill him.

And regarding the statement: [وَعِندَ ٱللَّهِ مَڪۡرُهُمۡ  – and their plot was with Allah]– meaning: Their plot is recorded so that Allaah will recompense them.

[وَإِن كَانَ مَڪۡرُهُمۡ لِتَزُولَ مِنۡهُ ٱلۡجِبَالُ  – though their plot was a great (one, still) it would never be able to remove the mountains]. Az-Zujaaj said, “Even if they plot reached the severity where it could move a mountain, they will still not be able to bring the affair of Islaam to an end”. [3] Even if their plot were to reach a stage where it could move a mountain, Allaah will still aid the religion He has ordained. [4]

Al-Awfee [rahimahullaah] said reported from Ibn Abbaas [radiyallaahu-anhumaa] who said, “Their plot cannot move mountains”. Ibn Jareer [rahimahullaah] said, “This deed they commit is against themselves, such as associating partners to Allaah and disbelief in Him cannot bring any harm to the mountains nor anything, rather it will haunt them”. [5] The Aayaat of Allaah, His divine laws and His manifest miracles at the hands of the Messengers are like mountains in robustness and firmness. So the intent is to belittle their plot and that it cannot remove the Aayaat and Messenger ships. [6]

Allaah [The Most High] said:

And when We let mankind taste of mercy after some adversity has afflicted them, behold! They take to plotting against Our Ayat [proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.]! Say: “Allah is more Swift in planning!” Certainly, Our Messengers (angels) record all of that which you plot. [Soorah Yunus: Aayah 21]

[وَإِذَآ أَذَقۡنَا ٱلنَّاسَ رَحۡمَةً۬ مِّنۢ بَعۡدِ ضَرَّآءَ مَسَّتۡہُمۡ  – And when We let mankind taste of mercy after some adversity has afflicted them] – such as health after illness, wealth after [a state of] poverty, safety after [a state of] fear, they forget the adversity that afflicted them and do not thank Allaah for the ease and mercy [they receive]; rather they continue in their transgression and plotting. And due to this reason Allaah [The Most High] said: [ۡ إِذَا لَهُم مَّكۡرٌ۬ فِىٓ ءَايَاتِنَا‌ – behold! They take to plotting against Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.)]– Meaning: They hasten towards falsehood in order to falsify the truth by way of it.

[قُلِ ٱللَّهُ أَسۡرَعُ مَكۡرًا‌ۚ – Say: Allah is more Swift in planning]– Meaning: Evil plotting encompasses only those who make it. Their [evil] aims will be thrown back at them and they will not be safe from the consequences; rather the angels write down what they used to do and Allaah will call them to account, then Allaah will recompense them for it with a full recompense [i.e. as they deserve without any injustice, decrease or increase]. [Ref 7]

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

And grieve you not for them, nor be straitened (in distress) because of what they plot. And they (the disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah) say: “When (will) this promise (be fulfilled), if you are truthful?” Say: “Perhaps that which you wish to hasten on, may be close behind you. [Surah An-Naml. Aayaat 70-72] – Meaning, O Muhammad! Do not be grieve regarding the affair of these beliers and their lack of belief, for indeed if you knew the evil that is within them and that they are not worthy of any good, then neither would you despair nor grieve, neither would your heart be straitened nor would your soul worry about their plotting, for indeed the outcomes of their plotting will return to them. [وَيَمۡكُرُونَ وَيَمۡكُرُ ٱللَّهُ‌ۖ وَٱللَّهُ خَيۡرُ ٱلۡمَـٰڪِرِينَ   – they were plotting and Allah too was planning, and Allah is the Best of the planners]. [Ref 8]

The Liars Are Always Exposed

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [rahimahullaah] said: The fact that a statement regarding something is lies and falsehood is sometimes known based on the statement in and of itself, its contradictions, perplexity and the manifestation of those clear indications which shows that it is lies. Lies might be manifested based on what it is in reality, manifested based on what is apparent and what is being concealed. It is sometimes known based on the situation of the utterer of the lie, for indeed the one who is known for lying, wickedness and deception, his statements do not show anything else except a state of conformity with his deeds. He does not utter a statement or perform an action similar to that of a pious and truthful person – the one innocent of every evil, deception, lie and wicked behaviour; rather the heart, intention, statements and deeds of the truthful one have the same image; and the heart, statements, deeds and intentions of the liar have the same image. [Ref 9]

The Imaam [rahimahullaah] stated that one should beware of kadhib [lying], for indeed it corrupts one’s ability to illustrate information based on what it should be in reality. It corrupts one’s ability to illustrate information and his ability to teach the people. The liar portrays what is non-existent as something present and what is present as something non-existent. He portrays truth as something false and falsehood as something true; he portrays good as evil and evil as good, so this corrupts his conception and knowledge, which then becomes a punishment upon him. Then he portrays what is not true to the one deceived by him – the one who is inclined towards him- so he corrupts his conception and knowledge. The soul of the liar turns away from the existing reality -inclined towards what is non-existent and gives preference to falsehood.

And when his conception and knowledge is corrupted, which is the basis of every wilful chosen deed, his deeds become corrupt and marked by lies, so those deeds would emanate from him just as lies emanate from the tongue- he neither benefits from his tongue nor his deeds. This is why lying is the basis [or foundation] of immorality, just as the Prophet [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] said, “Indeed lies lead to immorality [or wickedness] and indeed immorality [or wickedness] leads to the fire. [Bukhaari 2606/2607]

Firstly lies emerges from the heart and then on the tongue, so it corrupts it; then it transfers to the limbs and corrupts its actions, just as it corrupts the statements of the tongue. Therefore, lying prevails over his statements, deeds and state of affairs; corruption becomes deeply rooted in him and its disease leads to destruction if Allaah does not grant him cure him with the medication of truthfulness, which uproots its (i.e. lying) from its original source.

This is why the basis [or foundation] of all the deeds of the hearts is based on truthfulness; and the basis of their opposites – such as showing off, self-amazement, pride, being glad [with ungratefulness to Allaah’s Favours], conceitedness, boastfulness, insolence, weakness, laziness, cowardice,  disgrace and other than them- is lies. The origin of every righteous deed- whether carried out in private or public- is based on truthfulness. And the origin of every corrupt deed – whether carried out in private or public- is lies.

Allaah punishes the liar by preventing him from those affairs that will bring him well-being and benefit, and He rewards the truthful one by granting him the ability to attain the beneficial affairs related to the worldly life and afterlife. There is nothing similar to truthfulness with regards to the manner in which it bring about the affairs of wellbeing in this life and the next, and there is nothing similar to lying with regards to the manner in which it corrupts and harms one’s worldly affairs and the afterlife. [Allaah (The Most High) said]: [ يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَكُونُوا مَعَ الصَّادِقِينَ – O you who believe! Be afraid of Allah, and be with those who are true (in words and deeds) [9:119] [هَٰذَا يَوْمُ يَنْفَعُ الصَّادِقِينَ صِدْقُهُمْ ۚ- This is a Day on which the truthful will profit from their truth. [5:119] [ فَإِذَا عَزَمَ الْأَمْرُ فَلَوْ صَدَقُوا اللَّهَ لَكَانَ خَيْرًا لَهُمْ – And when the matter (preparation for Jihad) is resolved on, then if they had been true to Allah, it would have been better for them. [47:21]

And those who made excuses from the Bedouins came (to you, O Prophet) asking your permission to exempt them (from the battle), and those who had lied to Allah and His Messenger sat at home (without asking the permission for it); a painful torment will seize those of them who disbelieve. [9:90] [Ref 10]

It used to be said that whoever perpetrates these three acts  will be haunted by them:

[A] Rebellion against Allaah’s commandments.  Allaah [The Most High] said:

[ يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنَّمَا بَغْيُكُمْ عَلَىٰ أَنْفُسِكُمْ – O mankind! Your rebellion (disobedience to Allah) is only against your ownselves]. [Soorah Yoonus: Ayah: 23]

[B] Evil plotting.  Allaah [The Most High] said:

[ وَلَا يَحِيقُ الْمَكْرُ السَّيِّئُ إِلَّا بِأَهْلِهِ – But the evil plot encompasses only him who makes it]. [Soorah Faatir: Ayah: 43]

[C] Breaking pledges. [Allaah [The Most High] said:

[فَمَنْ نَكَثَ فَإِنَّمَا يَنْكُثُ عَلَىٰ نَفْسِهِ – Then whosoever breaks his pledge only breaks it to his own harm]. [Soorah Al-Fath: Ayah: 10] [11]

Analysing The Plots of The Disbelievers – A Fard Kifaayah

Shaikh Rabee Bin Haadee Al-Madkhalee (may Allaah preserve him) says:

So it is not permissible for the Ulamaa to remain heedless of their plans (i.e. the enemies of Islaam), their actions, their publications, their missionary activities and their various calls (to the Muslims). And also the various poisons they are infusing – which are in opposition to the Qur’aan and the Messenger (sallallaahu alayhi wasallam) and his Sunnah. And nor of what plans they have for (the destruction of) the beliefs and methodologies of Islaam. It is not permissible either, to remain heedless of their concentrated efforts to Christianize or secularize the Muslim youth. And along with that, the Muslim youth and the students are not able to oppose this plan and strategy. Rather it is necessary that the distinguished Ulamaa – those who are experienced and shrewd – it is for such people, in all the places to undertake this duty. So it is obligatory for some of the intelligent and ingenious people from the field of Aqeedah to be mobilised for opposing these plans. And likewise it is a must that the intelligent and distinguished from amongst the specialists in the Sunnah – that they be mobilised for the refutation of these and similarly the eminent and distinguished from amongst those in the fields of Orientalism for the refutation of the plans of the Orientalists.” (Ahl ul-Hadeeth, p.102)

He also says: “I myself believe that it is a benefit – rather it is of necessity – that we know what the enemies are planning for us, and that it is necessary for us to prepare (ourselves in strength) to destroy their plans. However, I do not exaggerate in this matter, rather my view is the view of our Ulamaa and they have all agreed upon this – that amongst the obligatory matters there are some that are Fard Ain and others that are Fard Kifaayah – and even if knowing the state of the enemies is harmful – it is still necessary for us to know it – but it is treated as Fard Kifaayah. When some attend to it, then the harm is removed from the rest” up until he said: “So I consider that there is no criticism for the Ulamaa and the students of knowledge who take great concern for preserving the Sharee’ah of Allaah – in terms of the Book, the Sunnah and its understanding – for this is one of the duties of the Kifaayah actions. And I believe that these people are more superior, noble, truthful and of more benefit to Islaam than those who are weak in their knowledge of the religion of Allaah or those who have no share in acquainting themselves with it.”  [An excerpt from an article at www.salafipublications.com titled: The Salafis and Looking into the Affairs of the Ummah]

[1] Mischief and Mischief Makers In The Earth – [Cattle and Crops (Livelihood) Destroyed]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

And remember Allah during the appointed Days [i.e. the three days of at-tashreeq that come after Eedul Adhaa]; but whosoever hastens to leave in two days, there is no sin on him and whosoever stays on, there is no sin on him, if his aim is to do good and obey Allah (fear Him), and know that you will surely be gathered unto Him. [Surah Al-Baqarah. Aayah 203]

Imaam As-Sadi [rahimahullaah] stated:

When Allaah commanded [i.e. in the above Aayah] one to remember Him a lot, especially during those specific times that have special virtue, which is good- a means to wellbeing and righteousness, He related the situation of a person who speaks but his speech contradicts his deeds, because speech either raises or degrades a person. Allaah said:

And of mankind there is he whose speech may please you (O Muhammad), in this worldly life, and he calls Allah to witness as to that which is in his heart, yet he is the most quarrelsome of the opponents. And when he turns away, his effort in the land is to make mischief therein and to destroy the crops and the cattle, and Allah likes not mischief. And when it is said to him, “Fear Allah”, he is led by arrogance to (more) crime. So enough for him is Hell, and worst indeed is that place to rest! [Surah Al-Baqarah. Aayaat 204-206]

[وَمِنَ ٱلنَّاسِ مَن يُعۡجِبُكَ قَوۡلُهُ ۥ فِى ٱلۡحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡيَا  – And of mankind there is he whose speech may please you in this worldly life]: Meaning, the one who hears his speech is pleased when he speaks and he thinks that he has uttered beneficial speech.

He emphasises what he says [وَيُشۡهِدُ ٱللَّهَ عَلَىٰ مَا فِى قَلۡبِهِ – and he calls Allah to witness as to that which is in his heart]: Meaning, he states that Allaah knows that what is in his heart agrees with what he says, even though he is lying regarding what he says because his speech contradicts his deeds. His speech would have agreed with his deeds had he being truthful, because this the case regarding the believers- those who are not hypocrites. And due to this Allaah said: [وَهُوَ أَلَدُّ ٱلۡخِصَامِ – yet he is the most quarrelsome of the opponents]: Meaning, when you disagree with him, you’ll find him to be the most quarrelsome, bigoted and difficult person to deal with, as well as the ugly characteristics that results from this behaviour, which are the opposite of the manners of the believers- those who make ease their way, submit to the truth and pardon people.

[وَإِذَا تَوَلَّىٰ سَعَىٰ فِى ٱلۡأَرۡضِ لِيُفۡسِدَ فِيهَا وَيُهۡلِكَ ٱلۡحَرۡثَ وَٱلنَّسۡلَ‌ۗ وَٱللَّهُ لَا يُحِبُّ ٱلۡفَسَادَ – And when he turns away, his effort in the land is to make mischief therein and to destroy the crops and the cattle, and Allah likes not mischief]- Meaning, when this person – the one whose speech amazes you – is not in your presence, he strives to commit sins which is tantamount to corruption in the earth, so cattle and crops are destroyed as a result of that corruption. The blessings in the vegetations, fruits and livestock decrease and become little due to evil deeds.

[وَٱللَّهُ لَا يُحِبُّ ٱلۡفَسَادَ – and Allah likes not mischief]: Meaning, when it is the case that Allaah does not like corruption, then He has an intense hatred for the person who sows corruption in the earth, even if such a person utters a good speech merely on the tongue (i.e. says one thing and does something else).

This Aayah contains proof regarding the fact that the statements uttered by individuals is not a proof regarding their truthfulness or whether they are upon falsehood, neither that they are righteous nor wicked until deeds ascertain them. And it is obligatory to examine the condition of those who bear witness, the one who is in the right and the falsifier amongst the people based on the righteousness of their deeds – examine the clear indications and their behaviour, and not to be deceived by how they portray themselves and the praise they give themselves.

Then Allaah mentioned that when this person – the one who causes corruption in the earth through acts of disobedience to Allaah – is commanded to fear Allaah, he becomes arrogant and haughty, [ أَخَذَتۡهُ ٱلۡعِزَّةُ بِٱلۡإِثۡمِ‌ۚ -he is led by arrogance to (more) crime].

So, he combines between disobedience to Allaah and being arrogant towards the sincere advisers. [Ref 1]

Imaam Muhammad Bin Saaleh Al-Uthaymeen [rahimahullaah] said:

This is the state of many a person when it is said to him, “Fear Allaah”, he is led by arrogance and then says, “Am I a disobedient person?” “Am I a criminal?! You fear Allaah”. But there is one who when it is said to him, “Fear Allaah”, he is shaken and what he holds in his hand drops out of fear of Allaah [The Mighty and Majestic]. This person is from the people of piety and those who are truly acquainted with reality of affairs, but as for the second person, he is one led by arrogance and Allaah’s refuge is sought. He is led by arrogance to more sin and then would say, “I have not done anything!” “What have I done to the extent that you tell me to fear Allaah?!” We say to this person (i.e. the arrogant one), “You are not more fearful of Allaah than the Messenger of Allaah [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam]. Iindeed Allaah said to him in the beginning of (Surah Al-Ahzaab): “[يَـٰٓأَيُّہَا ٱلنَّبِىُّ ٱتَّقِ ٱللَّهَ   – O Prophet! Fear Allaah] and in the final section of the Surah, Allaah said, “[يَـٰٓأَيُّہَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ ٱتَّقُواْ ٱللَّهَ وَقُولُواْ قَوۡلاً۬ سَدِيدً۬ا – O you who believe! Keep your duty to Allah and fear Him, and speak (always) the truth]”. This includes everyone, even the Prophet [alayhis salaatu wassalaam].  [Ref 2]

[فَحَسۡبُهُ ۥ جَهَنَّمُ‌ۚ – So enough for him is Hell], which is the dwelling place of the disobedient and arrogant ones; [وَلَبِئۡسَ ٱلۡمِهَادُ  – and worst indeed is that place to rest]: Meaning, a dwelling and settling place- a place of permanent punishment, grief and a continuous despair. Neither is the punishment lightened for them nor would they ever hope for reward. [Ref 3]

Who Are The Foundation of Judiciousness And The Most Judicious Amongst Humankind? [By Imaam Ibnul Qayyim (rahimahullaah)]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

The Messengers are the most judicious amongst the creation without exception, and after them their followers are the most judicious group. The people of the scriptures and the great legislated laws are the most judicious amongst the followers of the Messengers and the Muslims are the most judicious amongst them [i.e. amongst all those who received divine scriptures and great legislated laws].

The companions of Muhammad [peace and blessings be upon him] are the most judicious amongst the Muslims and then those who followed them exactly in faith. The people who adhere steadfastly to the authentic tradition of the Prophet and the authentic narrations transmitted from him are the most judicious amongst the Muslim nation without exception after companions and those who adhered to their path.

The clear evidence showing that the Messengers are the most judicious amongst the entire creation is that the beneficial knowledge they have brought- the righteous actions and the beneficial affairs related to true wellbeing in this worldly life and the afterlife- has not emerged from others or something even close it. There is nothing- from any perspective- that emerged from other judicious people that can be compared to what the Messengers brought with regards to beneficial knowledge, righteous action and the beneficial affairs of true wellbeing in this worldly life and the afterlife.

Whoever ponders upon their personal life stories – in specific and in general, their patience and perseverance, their abstinence from those unnecessary lawful pleasures of the worldly life, their fervent desire for Allaah’s pleasure  and the reward Allaah has kept in the afterlife, their purified manners, the fact that they are the most truthful amongst the creation, (possessors) of the most righteous hearts and the most purified souls, trustees of the greatest trust (i.e. revelation and Messenger ship), the noblest of those whom a person can accompany, the purest in their innermost conscience, the purest with regards to their private affairs- will not doubt the fact that they are the most judicious amongst Allaah’s creation without exception. There is no doubt that whoever is closer to them [i.e. follows them properly], then his (or her) share of judiciousness will be more than (that of others). [Ref 1]

Comprehensive Guidance of The Messenger

Muhammad’s [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] Ummah is not in need of anyone after him; rather the only need they have is someone to convey what he came with. Muhammad’s [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] message is comprehensive, universal and preserved. This universality, comprehensiveness and preservation is not limited to [any time and place], rather it is comprehensive for those to whom Muhammad [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] was sent [i.e. the whole world] and likewise with regards to everything that is needed in the fundamental and subsidiary issues of the religion.

Muhammad’s [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] message is sufficient, all embracing and universal- nothing else is needed besides it. It has not isolated any affair of truth needed by his Ummah in their sciences and deeds. The Messenger of Allaah [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] did not leave this world until he acquainted his Ummah with everything. He even taught them the etiquettes of using the toilet; the etiquettes of sexual relations; the etiquettes of sleep and after waking up; the etiquettes of eating, drinking and travel.

He acquainted them with the etiquettes of speech and silence; the etiquettes of keeping company with the people and seclusion. He acquainted them with the affairs of illness, good health, poverty and wealth. He acquainted them with all the affairs of life and death. He described Allaah’s throne, the angels, the jinn, the hell fire and the day of judgement in such a manner as if one has seen them with the naked eye. He [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] informed them about their Lord and His Perfect Names and Attributes, and that Allaah alone is their true object of worship.

He acquainted them with the Prophets of old and their nations – the events that took place between them and their nations – in such a manner as if one was present at that time. He acquainted them with all the means to good and the paths of evil- in general and in detail- which no other prophet informed his nation. He acquainted them with death and what will take place in the grave – either bliss or punishment. He acquainted them with the evidences and proofs of Tawheed [i.e. the oneness of Allaah in His Lordship, Names and Attributes, and that Allaah alone has the right to be worshipped].

He acquainted them with Prophet hood and the affairs of the Afterlife, and he refuted all the sects of disbelief and misguidance. He acquainted them with war strategies- how to confront the enemy, the way to achieve victory and conquests. If only they knew and understood these affairs in the correct manner [i.e. the manner it should be understood], they would not be overcome by their enemy. He acquainted them with the plots of Iblees and the ways through which he approaches them, and the ways to repel those plots and plans. He acquainted them with the soul- its characteristics and faults- in such a manner that they are not in need of anyone else to tell them about it. He taught them how to live their daily lives and had they acknowledged and acted upon this, then their worldly affairs would be firmly established. He brought them all the means of success in this life and the next, and they do not need anyone besides him. So how can it be said that the path of Muhammad [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] is in need of something else outside of it. The reason for such a claim is due to the weak and little understanding of a person. Allaah [The Most High] said:

أَوَلَمْ يَكْفِهِمْ أَنَّا أَنزَلْنَا عَلَيْكَ الْكِتَابَ يُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِمْ ۚ إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَرَحْمَةً وَذِكْرَىٰ لِقَوْمٍ يُؤْمِنُونَ

Is it not sufficient for them that We have sent down to you the Book (the Qur’an) which is recited to them? Verily, herein is mercy and a reminder (or an admonition) for a people who believe. [29:51]

Allaah [The Most High] said:

وَنَزَّلْنَا عَلَيْكَ الْكِتَابَ تِبْيَانًا لِّكُلِّ شَيْءٍ وَهُدًى وَرَحْمَةً وَبُشْرَىٰ لِلْمُسْلِمِينَ

And We have sent down to you the Book (the Qur’an) as an exposition of everything, a guidance, a mercy, and glad tidings for those who have submitted themselves (to Allah as Muslims). [16:89]

Allaah [The Most High] said:

يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ قَدْ جَاءَتْكُم مَّوْعِظَةٌ مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ وَشِفَاءٌ لِّمَا فِي الصُّدُورِ وَهُدًى وَرَحْمَةٌ لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

O mankind! There has come to you a good advice from your Lord [i.e. the Qur’an, ordering all that is good and forbidding all that is evil], and a healing for that [disease of ignorance, doubt, hypocrisy and differences, etc.] in your breasts, – a guidance and a mercy [explaining lawful and unlawful things, etc.] for the believers. [10:57]

Ibnul Mu’iz – A Nutcase or Statesman?! [Few Examples of Extreme Instability]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Imaam Ibn Katheer [rahimahullaah] said: “He [Ibnul Mu-izz (411AH)] was a despot and a rebellious devil”.

Some of his ugly characteristics and cursed way of life

There was much instability in his actions, judgements and statements. He claimed Al-Uloohiyyah [i.e. to be deified and worshipped] just as pharaoh did. He used to command the people to stand up in rows to exalt his mention and show respect to his name when his name was mentioned by the khateeb on the pulpit. This was done in all the places under his ruler ship.

He commanded the people of Egypt in particular that they should prostrate when his name was mentioned. And even the people in the markets and those who did not establish the five daily prayers and the Juma’ah Friday prayer used to prostrate when his name was mentioned. They used to abandon prostration for Allaah on Fridays [i.e. they did not attend the Friday prayer] and [the prayer] on other days, but they prostrated to the ruler [i.e. Ibnul Mu-izz].

He used to command the Jews and Christians to embrace Islaam whilst they hated to do so, and thereafter he permitted them to return to their religions. He used to destroy their churches and synagogues and rebuilt them again. Thereafter, he killed them, destroy their churches and synagogues.

He forced the people to close the markets during the day and open them at night. This command was obeyed for a long period until he came across a man -several times- who was engaged in carpentry in the last hours of the day; so he approached him and said: “Have you not been forbidden [i.e. from working during the day]?” He [i.e. the man] said: “O my Sayyid! When the people seek after their livelihoods during the day, they would stay up late during the night [in pursuit of their livelihoods]; and when they seek after their livelihoods during the night, they would stay up late during the day [in pursuit of their livelihoods]. This is a part of staying up late”. He [ibnul Mu-zz] laughed and left him, and thereafter he returned the people to their previous affair [i.e. work during the day].
