And In Whatsoever You Differ, The Decision Thereof Is With Allaah

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allaah (The Most High) said:

وَمَا اخْتَلَفْتُمْ فِيهِ مِنْ شَيْءٍ فَحُكْمُهُ إِلَى اللَّهِ

”And in whatsoever you differ, the decision thereof is with Allah (He is the ruling Judge).” [1]

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim (rahimaahullaah) said:

This is a clear text regarding the fact that the judgement for all our differing is to be referred back to Allaah alone. He is the Judge in this (affair) through the speech of His Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam). If you were to give precedence to the intellect over Allaah’s Judgement, then you are not (considered as) one who judges by Allaah’s Revelation and His Book.[2]

The First Obligation

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

What is the first obligation? The first thing obligated on the people is to know the purpose for which Allaah created them, took a covenant from them, sent His Messengers and revealed His Books to them. And due to this Allaah created the worldly life, the afterlife, paradise and hell; and because of this Al-Haaqqah- The inevitable [i.e. the day of judgment] will surely be established and Al Waaqi’ah [The Event (i.e. the day of judgement)] will take place.  And due its events, the scales [of good and bad deeds] will be established and the scrolls of [good and good deeds] will be laid out, and there will be the wretched and the blessed.

Why Did Allaah Create Mankind and Jinn?

Allaah [The Most High] said:

وَمَا خَلَقْنَا السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا لَاعِبِينَ

مَا خَلَقْنَاهُمَا إِلَّا بِالْحَقِّ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ

”And We created not the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, for mere play; We created them not except with truth (i.e. to examine and test those who are obedient and those who are disobedient and then reward the obedient ones and punish the disobedient ones), but most of them know not.” [Soorah Ad-Dukhan: Ayah: 38-39]

Allaah (The Most High) said:

وَمَا خَلَقْنَا السَّمَاءَ وَالْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا بَاطِلًا ۚ ذَٰلِكَ ظَنُّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا

”And We created not the heaven and the earth and all that is between them without purpose! That is the consideration of those who disbelieve! [Soorah Saad: Ayah:27]

Allaah (The Most High) said:

وَخَلَقَ اللَّهُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ بِالْحَقِّ وَلِتُجْزَىٰ كُلُّ نَفْسٍ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ وَهُمْ لَا يُظْلَمُونَ

”And Allah has created the heavens and the earth with truth, in order that each person may be recompensed what he has earned, and they will not be wronged.” [Soorah Al-Jaathiya: Ayah:22]

Allaah (The Most High) said:

وَمَا خَلَقْتُ الْجِنَّ وَالْإِنسَ إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُونِ

”And I (Allah) created not the jinns and humans except they should worship Me (Alone).” [Soorah Adh-Dhaariyaat: Ayah:56]

What is the meaning of worship?

”Worship is a comprehensive term including everything that Allaah loves and is pleased with, including statements and deeds, apparent and unapparent.

How do we recognise that worship is beloved to Allaah and pleasing to Him?

It is recognised because Allaah sent Messengers and the revelation of the Books to command them with what Allaah loves and is pleased with; and forbid them from what Allaah hates and disdains.  And by way of this, Allaah [absolutely perfect] irrefutable proofs are established and His [absolute perfect] Wisdom is manifested.

Allaah [The Most High] said:

رُّسُلًا مُّبَشِّرِينَ وَمُنذِرِينَ لِئَلَّا يَكُونَ لِلنَّاسِ عَلَى اللَّهِ حُجَّةٌ بَعْدَ الرُّسُلِ ۚ

”Messengers as bearers of good news as well as of warning in order that mankind should have no plea against Allah after the Messengers.” [Nisaa: Ayah: 165]

Allaah (The Most High) said:

قُلْ إِن كُنتُمْ تُحِبُّونَ اللَّهَ فَاتَّبِعُونِي يُحْبِبْكُمُ اللَّهُ وَيَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ ذُنُوبَكُمْ ۗ وَاللَّهُ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ

”Say (O Muhammad to mankind): “If you (really) love Allah then follow me (i.e. accept Islamic Monotheism, follow the Qur’an and the Sunnah), Allah will love you and forgive you of your sins. And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” [Aal Imraan: Ayah: 31]

What is sincere intention? It is (when) the person’s aim is to seek the countenance of Allaah in all his apparent and unapparent statements and actions.

Allaah [The Most High] said:

وَمَا أُمِرُوا إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُوا اللَّهَ مُخْلِصِينَ لَهُ الدِّينَ حُنَفَاءَ

”And they were commanded not, but that they should worship Allah, and worship none but Him Alone (abstaining from ascribing partners to Him).” [Soorah Al-Bayyinah: Ayah: 5]

And He (The Most High) said:

وَمَا لِأَحَدٍ عِندَهُ مِن نِّعْمَةٍ تُجْزَىٰ

إِلَّا ابْتِغَاءَ وَجْهِ رَبِّهِ الْأَعْلَىٰ

”And have in his mind no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return,  Except only the desire to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High.” [Soorah Al-Layl: Ayaat: 19-20]

And He (The Most High) said:

إِنَّمَا نُطْعِمُكُمْ لِوَجْهِ اللَّهِ لَا نُرِيدُ مِنكُمْ جَزَاءً وَلَا شُكُورًا

”(Saying): “We feed you seeking Allah’s Countenance only. We wish for no reward, nor thanks from you.” [Soorah Al-Insaan: Ayah: 9]

And He (The Most High) said:

مَن كَانَ يُرِيدُ حَرْثَ الْآخِرَةِ نَزِدْ لَهُ فِي حَرْثِهِ ۖ وَمَن كَانَ يُرِيدُ حَرْثَ الدُّنْيَا نُؤْتِهِ مِنْهَا وَمَا لَهُ فِي الْآخِرَةِ مِن نَّصِيبٍ

”Whosoever desires (with his deeds) the reward of the Hereafter, We give him increase in his reward, and whosoever desires the reward of this world (with his deeds), We give him thereof (what is written for him), and he has no portion in the Hereafter.” [Soorah Ash-Shooraa: Ayah: 20]

What is the meaning of Islaam?

Islaam is to submit to Allaah with Tawheed [i.e. believing and singling Him out in worship, and singling Him out in His Lordship and in His Names and Attributes]; to yield obediently to Him, and to free oneself from Shirk [i.e. to be free from associating a partner to Him in worship, in His Lordship and in His Names and Attributes].

Allaah (The Most High) said:

وَمَنْ أَحْسَنُ دِينًا مِّمَّنْ أَسْلَمَ وَجْهَهُ لِلَّهِ

”And who can be better in religion than one who submits his face (himself) to Allah (i.e. follows Allah’s Religion of Islamic Monotheism). ”[Soorah An-Nisaa: Ayah: 125]

Allaah (The Most High) said:

وَمَن يُسْلِمْ وَجْهَهُ إِلَى اللَّهِ وَهُوَ مُحْسِنٌ فَقَدِ اسْتَمْسَكَ بِالْعُرْوَةِ الْوُثْقَىٰ

”And whosoever submits his face (himself) to Allah [i.e.(follows Allah’s Religion of Islamic Monotheism), worships Allah (Alone) with sincere Faith in the (1) Oneness of His Lordship,(2) Oneness of His worship, and (3) Oneness of His Names and Qualities], while he is a Muhsin (good-doer i.e. performs good deeds totally for Allah’s sake without any show-off or to gain praise or fame etc. and does them in accordance with the Sunnah of Allah’s Messenger Muhammad ), then he has grasped the most trustworthy hand-hold [La ilaha ill-Allah (none has the right to be worshipped but Allah)].” [Soorah Al-Luqmaan: Ayah: 22]

Allaah (The Most High) said:

فَإِلَٰهُكُمْ إِلَٰهٌ وَاحِدٌ فَلَهُ أَسْلِمُوا ۗ وَبَشِّرِ الْمُخْبِتِينَ

”And your Ilah (God) is One Ilah (God Allah), so you must submit to Him Alone (in Islam). And (O Muhammad ) give glad tidings to the Mukhbitin [those who obey Allah with humility and are humble from among the true believers of Islamic Monotheism].” [Soorah Hajj: Ayah: 34]

What is the meaning of [لَا إِله إلَّا اللَّه ]: Its meaning is: To negate worship of everything else besides Allaah, and to affirm that Allaah is one without a partner in His worship, just as He has no partner in His Dominion (over everything)

Allaah (The Most High) said:

ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ الْحَقُّ وَأَنَّ مَا يَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِهِ هُوَ الْبَاطِلُ وَأَنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ الْعَلِيُّ الْكَبِيرُ

”That is because Allah He is the Truth (the only True God of all that exists, Who has no partners or rivals with Him), and what they (the polytheists) invoke besides Him, it is Batil (falsehood) And verily, Allah He is the Most High, the Most Great.” [Soorah Al-Hajj: Ayah: 62]

What is the evidence that Eemaan is belief in the heart, speech of the tongue and actions of the limbs?

Allaah (The Most High) said:

وَلَٰكِنَّ اللَّهَ حَبَّبَ إِلَيْكُمُ الْإِيمَانَ وَزَيَّنَهُ فِي قُلُوبِكُمْ

”But Allah has endeared the Faith to you and has beautified it in your hearts.” [Soorah Al-Hujuraat: Ayah: 7]

And He (The Most High) said:

فَآمِنُوا بِاللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ

”So believe in Allah and His Messenger” [Soorah Al-Araaf: Ayah: 158]

This is the meaning of the testimony ”none has the right to be worshipped except Allaah and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allaah’’, and a person cannot enter the fold of Islaam except by way of them.  It (consists) of the action of the heart in belief and speech of the tongue by way of declaration.  One is not benefited except by way of threading their path.

He (The Most High) said:

وَمَا كَانَ اللَّهُ لِيُضِيعَ إِيمَانَكُمْ

”And Allah would never make your Eemaan (i.e. prayers) to be lost.” [Soorah Al-Baqarah: Ayah: 143]

Meaning: your prayers performed whilst facing baytul maqdis before the qiblah was change.  In this ayah, Allaah referred to prayer as Eemaan, and prayer includes the deeds of the heart, the tongue and the limbs.

What is the Evidence that Eemaan increases and decreases?

Allaah (The Most High) said:

لِيَزْدَادُوا إِيمَانًا مَّعَ إِيمَانِهِمْ

”That they may grow in more Eemaan (Faith) along with their (present) Eemaan (Faith).” [Soorah Al-Fath: Ayah: 4]

Allaah (The Most High) said:

وَزِدْنَاهُمْ هُدًى

‘’And We increased them in guidance. [Soorah Al-Kahf: Ayah:13]

Allaah (The Most High) said:

وَيَزِيدُ اللَّهُ الَّذِينَ اهْتَدَوْا هُدًى

And Allah increases in guidance those who walk aright [true believers in the Oneness of Allah who fear Allah much (abstain from all kinds of sins and evil deeds which He has forbidden).’’ [Soorah Maryam: Ayah:76]

Allaah (The Most High) said:

وَالَّذِينَ اهْتَدَوْا زَادَهُمْ هُدًى

While as for those who accept guidance, He increases their guidance. [Soorah Muhammad: Ayah: 17]

Allaah (The Most High) said:

وَيَزْدَادَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِيمَانًا

‘’And the believers may increase in Faith (as this Qur’an is the truth)’’ [Soorah Al-Muddathir: Ayah: 31]

Allaah (The Most High) said:

فَأَمَّا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا فَزَادَتْهُمْ إِيمَانًا

‘’As for those who believe, it has increased their Eemaan (Faith)’’ [Soorah At-Tawbah: Ayah: 124]

And the Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) said:

“Had you always been in the same state as when you are with me, the angels would shake hands with you.  [Saheeh Muslim: Number: 2750]

[Source: 200 Su-aal Wa Jawaab Fil Aqeedah Al-Islaamiyyah: pages 13-25]

[Ref 1: Shaikh Saaleh Al-Fawzaan [hafidha-hullaah] said: Everything that Allaah loves and is pleased with – the apparent actions of the limbs and the concealed deeds of the heart- are regarded as worship. And whatever Allaah is displeased with cannot be regarded as worship, even if a person wishes to draw close to Allaah by way of it.  Therefore, that which Allaah is not pleased with cannot be regarded as worship, even if the person who [performs such actions] intends good by way of it. Innovations in religion, superstition and shirk are not acts of righteousness in the sight of Allaah because Allaah is neither is Allaah pleased with them nor did He permit it. Therefore,   worship is a comprehensive term including everything that Allaah loves and Allaah neither loves disbelief, shirk innovation and newly invented matters in religion, nor is He pleased with all of that. Allaah loves that what He has legislated is acted upon and this is what worship is. http://www.salafitalk.net/st/viewmessages.cfm?Forum=6&Topic=10619

Eight Robust Points to Show That None Has Knowledge of The Unseen Besides Allaah – [By Imaam Ash-Shanqeetee and Imaam As-Sadi (rahimahumallaah)]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allaah [The Most High] said: [وَعِنْدَهُ مَفَاتِحُ الْغَيْبِ لَا يَعْلَمُهَا إِلَّا هُوَ – And with Him are the keys of the Ghaib (all that is hidden), none knows them but He] [6:59]

In his explanation of the above Ayah, Imaam Ash-Shanqeetee [rahimahullaah] cited a number of robust proofs to demonstrate and establish the fact that even the most knowledgeable amongst the creation- Allaah’s Messengers and Angels-do not possess knowledge of the Unseen.

Proof 1: Aa’isha [radiyallaahu-anhaa] was falsely accused and the Prophet [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] did not know whether she was innocent or not until Allaah [The Most High] informed him, saying: [ أُولَٰئِكَ مُبَرَّءُونَ مِمَّا يَقُولُونَ- Such (good people) are innocent of (each and every) bad statement which they say] [24:26]

Proof 2: Prophet Ibraaheem [alayhis-salaam] slaughtered a lamb for the angels, whilst not knowing that they were angels until they informed him that they were angels. Allaah [The Most High] said that the angels said to Ibraaheem: [إِنَّا أُرْسِلْنَا إِلَىٰ قَوْمِ لُوطٍ    – We have been sent against the people of Lout (Lot). (11:70)]

Proof 3: When the angels came to Prophet lut [alayhis-salaam], he did not know that they were angels, and due to that Allaah said: [وَلَمَّا جَآءَتۡ رُسُلُنَا لُوطً۬ا سِىٓءَ بِہِمۡ وَضَاقَ بِہِمۡ ذَرۡعً۬ا وَقَالَ هَـٰذَا يَوۡمٌ عَصِيبٌ۬ – And when Our Messengers came to Lout (Lot), he was grieved on their account and felt himself straitened for them (lest the town people should approach them to commit sodomy with them). He said: Allaah [The Most High] also said that lut [alayhis-salaam] said: [لَوْ أَنَّ لِي بِكُمْ قُوَّةً أَوْ آوِي إِلَىٰ رُكْنٍ شَدِيدٍ  – Would that I had strength (men) to overpower you, or that I could betake myself to some powerful support (to resist you). (11:80)].

He did not know what news the angels brought until they said to him: [إِنَّا رُسُلُ رَبِّكَ لَنْ يَصِلُوا إِلَيْكَ – Verily, we are the Messengers from your Lord. They shall not reach you!] [11:81]

Proof 4: Prophet Ya’qoob [alayhis-salaam] lost his eyesight due to grieving for Yusuf [alayhis-salaam], whilst he was in Egypt. He did not know anything about Yusuf until Allaah reveal news about him.

Proof 5: Prophet Sulaymaan [alayhis-salaam], even though Allaah [The Most High] gave him authority over the devils and subjugated the wind in his service, he did not know about the people Bil-Qees until the Hud’hud came with news about them. Allaah [The Most High] said that Hud’hud said: [أَحَطْتُ بِمَا لَمْ تُحِطْ بِهِ وَجِئْتُكَ مِنْ سَبَإٍ بِنَبَإٍ يَقِينٍ  – I have grasped (the knowledge of a thing) which you have not grasped and I have come to you from Saba’ (Sheba) with true news] (27:22)]

Proof 6: Prophet Nuh [alayhis-salaam] did not know that his son – who was drowned- was not included amongst those members of his household who were to be saved, as Allaah [The Most High] said that Nuh said: [رَبِّ إِنَّ ابْنِي مِنْ أَهْلِي وَإِنَّ وَعْدَكَ الْحَقُّ   – O my Lord! Verily, my son is of my family! And certainly, Your Promise is true.(11:45)].  He did not know the reality of the affair until Allaah informed him, saying: [قَالَ يَـٰنُوحُ إِنَّهُ ۥ لَيۡسَ مِنۡ أَهۡلِكَ‌ۖ إِنَّهُ ۥ عَمَلٌ غَيۡرُ صَـٰلِحٍ۬‌ۖ فَلَا تَسۡـَٔلۡنِ مَا لَيۡسَ لَكَ بِهِۦ عِلۡمٌ‌ۖ إِنِّىٓ أَعِظُكَ أَن تَكُونَ مِنَ ٱلۡجَـٰهِلِينَ – He [Allaah] said: “O Nuh (Noah)! Surely, he is not of your family; verily, his work is unrighteous, so ask not of Me that of which you have no knowledge! I admonish you, lest you be one of the ignorant]. [11:46]

And indeed Allaah [The Most High] also stated in Surah Hud about Nuh [alayhis-salaam] that he said to his people: [وَلَا أَقُولُ لَكُمْ عِنْدِي خَزَائِنُ اللَّهِ وَلَا أَعْلَمُ الْغَيْبَ -And I do not say to you that with me are the Treasures of Allah, “Nor that I know the Ghaib (unseen)..] [11:31]

Proof 7: And when Allaah said to the Angels:  [أَنۢبِـُٔونِى بِأَسۡمَآءِ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ إِن كُنتُمۡ صَـٰدِقِينَ -Tell Me the names of these if you are truthful]; Allaah said that the angels replied: [قَالُوا سُبْحَانَكَ لَا عِلْمَ لَنَا إِلَّا مَا عَلَّمْتَنَا  – Glory be to You, we have no knowledge except what you have taught us]. [2:31-32]

Therefore, it is very clear that the most knowledgeable amongst the creation- the Messengers and the Angels- do not know anything of the unseen except what Allaah makes known to them. Allaah [The Most High] informs His Messengers what He wishes from the knowledge of the Unseen, as Allaah stated: [وَمَا كَانَ اللَّهُ لِيُطْلِعَكُمْ عَلَى الْغَيْبِ وَلَٰكِنَّ اللَّهَ يَجْتَبِي مِنْ رُسُلِهِ مَنْ يَشَاءُ ۖ- Nor will Allah disclose to you the secrets of the Ghaib (unseen), but Allah chooses of His Messengers whom He pleases][3:179]

And Allaah said: [عَـٰلِمُ ٱلۡغَيۡبِ فَلَا يُظۡهِرُ عَلَىٰ غَيۡبِهِۦۤ أَحَدًا- (He Alone) the All-Knower of the Gha’ib (unseen), and He reveals to none His Gha’ib (unseen)]; [إِلَّا مَنِ ٱرۡتَضَىٰ مِن رَّسُولٍ۬ -Except to a Messenger (from mankind)…]. [72:26-27] [End of Quote: Ref 1]

Allaah [The Mighty and Majestic] said:

Then when We decreed death for him [Sulaiman (Solomon)], nothing informed them (jinns) of his death except a little worm of the earth, which kept (slowly) gnawing away at his stick, so when he fell down, the jinns saw clearly that if they had known the unseen, they would not have stayed in the humiliating torment. [Saba: Ayah: 14]

Had they [i.e. the devils] known the unseen, they would have known of Sulaymaan’s death, which was the thing they desired the most, so that they would be saved from the [state] they were in [i.e. Allaah gave Sulaymaan (alayhis-salaam) complete control over them]. [Ref 2]

None Can Stop Allaah’s Favours and Blessings from Reaching Others!

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allaah [The Most High] said:

مَّا يَفۡتَحِ ٱللَّهُ لِلنَّاسِ مِن رَّحۡمَةٍ۬ فَلَا مُمۡسِكَ لَهَاۖ وَمَا يُمۡسِكۡ فَلَا مُرۡسِلَ لَهُ ۥ مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِۚۦ وَهُوَ ٱلۡعَزِيزُ ٱلۡحَكِيمُ

Whatever of mercy Allaah may grant to mankind, none can withhold it, and whatever He may withhold, none can grant it thereafter. And He is the All-Mighty, the All-Wise. [Soorah Al-Faatir’ Ayah 2]

[مَّا يَفۡتَحِ ٱللَّهُ لِلنَّاسِ مِن رَّحۡمَةٍ۬ – Whatever of mercy Allaah may grant to mankind]- Meaning: the good things of this worldly life and provision; [فَلَا مُمۡسِكَ لَهَاۖ- none can withhold it]. This Aayah notifies us of the fact that none has the right to be worshipped except Allaah, because there is neither anyone who can withhold what Allaah wants to grant [mankind] nor is there anyone who can grant what Allaah wants to withhold from [mankind].

The Greatest Criterion Amongst Mankind And Jinn

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Sufyaan Ibn Uyaynah [rahimahullaah] used to say: Indeed, the Messenger [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] is the greatest criterion [i.e. amongst mankind and Jinn] and all affairs are presented to him [i.e. for judgement and judged] based on his manners, path and guidance; so whatever is in agreement with this is truth, and whatever is in opposition is falsehood.

The Noblest Subject Matter In The Qur’aan [By Imaam As- Sa’di (rahimahullaah)]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

The knowledge of Sound Creed

This is the noblest of all affairs of knowledge without exception; the most virtuous and perfect. By way of it, hearts firmly cling to  sound creed, [noble] manners are purified and made to flourish, and deeds are perfected. The subject matter is based on the following:

To study that which is obligatory to affirm for Allaah regarding His perfect Attributes and Lofty Characteristics, and that which makes it impossible for Him to be described with deficient and blameworthy attributes, or likening Him to others.

Study that which establishes the fact that Allaah [alone] originated all creation and that He does whatever He wills-whatever He wishes will take place and whatever He does not wish cannot take place.

Likewise, study what is obligatory regarding belief in the Messengers- their qualities and the rights due to them, and that which is forbidden with regards to violation of such rights.

Belief in the Books revealed to the Messengers and in that which Allaah has stated about Himself, and that which His Messengers stated regarding the events of the past and the future.

Belief in the last day, recompense, reward and punishment, the paradise and hell fire, and that which has been stated [in the Qur’aan and authentic Sunnah] related to these affairs.

These are the general affairs of this lofty affair of knowledge. Indeed the Qur’aan has explained these affairs with a profound explanation and clarified it in a manner that is not equal to [its explanation and clarification in] the other revealed books.
