Do Not Argue On Behalf of Those Who Deceive Themselves – [A Brief Admonition By Shaikh Rabee]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

Shaikh Rabee Bin Haadi Al-Madkhali [may Allaah preserve him] stated: The one who rebuts a Mubtadi [an innovator] or a book in which there is Bidah, or disparages one who is deserving of disparagement, or rebukes one who deserves to be rebuked, [such as] some narrator, false witnesser and a sinner who announces his sin, then he [i.e. this refuter, rebuker] is not an oppressor because he has placed the affairs in their proper and [rightful] places, and the oppressive transgressor is the one who embarks upon speaking ill of him and conspires against him. In reality, he [i.e. the one who speaks ill of this upright refuter, rebuke] is the one who places something in order than its [rightful] place due to the fact that he praises the criminals- the callers to the gates of the hell fire- and speaks ill of those who give sincere advice to the Muslims. Whoever defends them [i.e. the innovators] and argues on their behalf with falsehood, then he is from those more deserving of the statement of Allaah:

Allaah [The Most High] said:

And argue not on behalf of those who deceive themselves. Verily, Allah does not like anyone who is a betrayer of his trust, and indulges in crime. They may hide [their crimes] from men, but they cannot hide [them] from Allah, for He is with them [by His Knowledge], when they plot by night in words that He does not approve, and Allah ever encompasses what they do. Lo! You are those who have argued for them in the life of this world, but who will argue for them on the Day of Resurrection against Allah, or who will then be their defender? [Surah An-Nisaa. Aayaat 107109]

Verify and Ascertain

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

Verification is one of the most important affairs, if not the most important. Verifying what is transmitted from others is an important affair, because sometimes the transmitters harbour evil intentions, so they transmit – intentionally and deliberately – that which will tarnish the reputation of the one they transmit from. And sometimes they do not harbour an evil intention, but they understand something in a manner that is opposite to what is intended by it.

Therefore, it is obligatory to verify. So, when the proof [sound source] of the transmission is established, then the one from whom the statement was transmitted is engaged in a discussion [or his statement is examined] before a judgement is passed as to whether it is a mistake or not. That is because it may become clear to you – by way of discussion [or observation] – that the one from whom the statement was transmitted is correct. And if not, then what is known is that if a person were to immediately pass a judgement merely based on what he hears, he will transmit things [i.e. statements, views, opinions etc] from some of the scholars – those considered to be the beacons of [Sharee’ah] knowledge – that which the souls will dislike; but when one verifies, contemplates and establishes contact with this Shaikh, the affair will become clarified [or clear to him].  [Excerpt from Sharh Hilyatil Taalibil Ilm Pages 75-76. By Shaikh Uthaymeen (rahimahullaah). Paraphrased, see Arabic text below]:

Caution- [Rumour-mongers and Doubt-mongers Hide In WhatsApp and Telegram Groups]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy

The Prophet [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] said: “It is enough sin for a person to speak of everything that he hears.” [Ref 1]

Abu Haatim [Imaam Ibn Hibbaan (rahimahullaah)] said: “This narration contains a rebuke – that a person should not speak about [or narrate] everything he hears until he knows whether it is authentic or not, then he speaks about [or narrates] it. And he should not speak about [or narrate] that which is not authentic. [Ref 2]

The Prophet [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] said: “I command you fear Allaah [The Mighty and Majestic] and to listen to and obey your [leaders] even if a maimed [or disabled] Abyssinian slave is put in charge over you. Whoever lives among you will see a lot of differences, so it is obligated on you to adhere to my Sunnah and the Sunnah of the rightly guided Khulafaa- bite onto it with your molar teeth [i.e. adhere firmly to it]. And beware of newly invented matters [in the religion], for every newly invented matter [in the religion] is an innovation [in religion] and every innovation [in the religion] is misguidance. [Ref 3]

Abu Haatim [Imaam Ibn Hibbaan (rahimahullaah)] said regarding the statement of the Prophet [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam]: ‘’Whoever lives among you will see a lot of differences, so it is obligated on you to adhere to my Sunnah…’’

This is a sound proof [to show that] the Prophet [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] commanded his Ummah to know [and distinguish] the weak narrators from the reliable narrators, because it not possible for a person to adhere to the Sunnah if it is mixed with lies and falsehood, except when one can distinguish the weak narrators from the reliable narrators. [Ref 4] [End of Quotes]

Indeed, brothers and sisters, some of the doubt mongers amongst the Musaafiqah -after being refuted and exposed- go undercover in the WhatsApp and Telegram groups. Therefore, it would be very naive of us if we accept the invitation of anyone without being absolutely sure of his Aqeedah, Manhaj, affiliations and companionship. We should not join any group until we’ve spoken to those students of knowledge whose stance against the Musaafiqah is well known to be praiseworthy – those who reject and refute the transgressions of the Musaafiqah, such as the noble students at Salafipublications and those upon the same stance in the UK, America and elsewhere. We ask Allaah to guide the Musaafiqah or protect us from their harm Aameen.

I Do Not Make Taqleed of Such and Such Shaikh! [A Sound Statement By Way of Which The People of Falsehood Seek to Cling to Falsehood And Oppose The Sound Verdicts of The Upright Scholars]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

Shaikh Rabee Bin Haadi [may Allaah preserve him] said:

Indeed, rejecting the statements of scholars [i.e. their sound verdicts] – by way of statements whose apparent meaning is sound, but those who utilise them intend falsehood and evil – has become widespread nowadays.  [And this statement of truth by way of which falsehood and evil is intended by those who utter it is]: “I do not make Taqleed!!’’ Even though you find him [i.e. the utterer of this of statement] to be ignorant, understands nothing [i.e. regarding some or many affairs] in the religion and is one among those who are greatly in need of making Taqleed of the scholars besides following them.

There is [the necessity for] Taqleed and Ittibaa. There is a person who is ignorant, and he needs to make Taqleed. Taqleed is a necessity for this person, therefore it is incumbent upon him to make Taqleed of the scholars. The student of knowledge can understand by way of the proofs that such and such scholar is correct and thus he follows the person with proof [i.e. Ittibaa]. This is a level above Taqleed and below the level of the Mujtahid.

Some of them [i.e. the people] might say: ‘’I do not make Taqleed’’, even though-in reality- he is a commoner or an evil doer, or a malicious person who desires to speak ill against the scholars and keep the people away from them through these cunning ways. Therefore, let the youth be careful lest they fall into the trap of these fools – those who speak ill of the scholars in such a heedless manner.

“I do not make Taqleed of such and such [person]”; we say to him [i.e. the one who utters this statement]: Who commands you to make Taqleed if you are a student of knowledge?! However, if that scholar about whom you say, “I do not make Taqleed of him” has truth with him, then is it permissible to reject the truth through this illusion which you call Taqleed and intend falsehood by way of it?! I warn the youth against despicable behaviour. It has become rife amongst the common people and prevents them from [adhering] to good manners, [sound] religion and [good] character. One Should Cling to The Truth For The Sake of The Truth Only And Not Due to The Ash-khaas [Personalities]- [Brief Contemplation On a Statement of Imaam Maymoon Bin Mehraan, Shaikh Rabee and Shaikh Uthaymeen]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

A man said to Maymoon Ibn Mehraan [rahimahullaah]: “The people will not cease to be upon good as long as Allaah keeps you [alive] for them.” So he [Maymoon]  said: “The people will not cease to be upon good as long as they fear their Lord.” [Siyar 5/75]

Shaikh Rabee [hafidhahullaah] said: “And [with regards to] the person with the proofs, it is obligatory to take his speech [on the grounds] of following Allaah’s Legislation and Proofs, and not [due to] the personality of that person. [Source: (See Majmoo 9/40) 3rdparagraph]

Shaikh Rabee [hafidhahullaah] also said: The seeker of truth is not diverted from the truth, fairness and justice due to admiration of the big personalities and being amazed by them, for indeed the truth is more worthy to be followed. It is not permissible to drop  the proofs for the sake of this or that great man. The principle [rule] of the Muslim – the unbiased one, the seeker of truth – is always: [قُلْ هَاتُوا بُرْهَانَكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ صَادِقِينَ -Say, “Bring forth your proofs if you are truthful”]. [Surah An-Nahl. Aayah 64] [Source: Al-Mulakh-khasul Jameel Fee Bayaani Manhaji Ash-Shaikh Rabee Fid-Da’wati Wal-Jarhi Wat-Ta’deel. Page 87]

Shaikh Uthaymeen [rahimahullaah] interrupted a person who was reciting a poem and mentioned him in it! He objected & told him not to attach truth to personalities, rather he should say that as long as the Qur’aan and the Sunnah are present, the haqq will remain.
