The Best or The Most-Imaam Shanqeetee

Allaah (The Most High) said:

 وَهُوَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ فِي سِتَّةِ أَيَّامٍ وَكَانَ عَرْشُهُ

عَلَى الْمَاءِ لِيَبْلُوَكُمْ أَيُّكُمْ أَحْسَنُ عَمَلًا

”And He it is Who has created the heavens and the earth in six Days and His Throne was on the water, that He might try you, which of you is the best in deeds.” [Soorah Hud: Ayah: 7].   He (The Most High) did not say: ”which of you has the most deeds.”

The Places of Residence are Three: ibn ul-Qayyim

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Shaikh Salih al-Fawzaan mentioned in his explanation of Kitab at-Tawhid under the chapter [The Virtues of Tawhid and that which it Expiates from Sins], “The places of residence – as ibn ul-Qayyim mentioned – are three;

The First: The residence of this world, and it is the residence of actions and gaining [good deeds].

The Second: The residence of the Barzakh, and that is the residence within the graves, a barzakh between this world and the Hereafter. The term barzakh means a “divider” or “barrier” [i.e. the life within the graves is the seperator between this world and the Hereafter], and the life within the graves is [therefore] termed as the life of the barzakh. Within it are amazing affairs; in it is blessing or punishment, either a pit from the pits of the Hell-Fire, or a garden from the gardens of Paradise. The dead remain in their graves until Allah the Mighty and Majestic wishes to resurrect and gather them for accountability and recompense…[and so] this residence is a waiting station [until resurrection].

The Third: The residence of recompense, which is the Day of Judgement, [either] Paradise or Hell; and this residence does not perish nor cease ever. If a person believes in these two abodes [Paradise and Hell], then indeed that will cause a person to perform righteous actions and [seek] repentance from sins and wrong-doing. So if he is certain that Paradise exists, and that he cannot enter this Paradise except with righteous actions – then [surely] he will act [upon righteousness]. [Similarly] if he is certain that Hell exists and that he will enter it [if he performs] sins, disbelief and evil actions – then [surely] he will be wary and cautious of that and repent to Allah the Mighty and Majestic.

Therefore, eemaan in Paradise and Hell causes the slave to perform righteous actions and to seek repentance from sins and evil actions, as for the one who does not believe in the Hereafter, then this one will act in accordance to what his desires dictate to him and what his soul craves and he will not hold himself accountable [and reflect] ever”.

The Repentance of pharaoh’s Magicians

Allaah (The Most High) said:

 قَالُوا لَن نُّؤْثِرَكَ عَلَىٰ مَا جَاءَنَا مِنَ الْبَيِّنَاتِ وَالَّذِي فَطَرَنَا ۖ فَاقْضِ مَا أَنتَ قَاضٍ ۖ إِنَّمَا تَقْضِي هَٰذِهِ الْحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا

They said: “We prefer you not over the clear signs that have come to us, and to Him (Allah) Who created us. So decree whatever you desire to decree, for you can only decree (regarding) this life of the world.” [Soorah Taha: Ayah: 72]

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim (rahimahullaah) said:

And when Eemaan became established in their hearts, they came to know that the punishment of the worldly life is easier than the punishment of the afterlife and less abiding; and that what they are to receive of reward for Eemaan in the afterlife is greater, more beneficial and everlasting.

Reproved and Forsaken-Who deserves this?

Allaah (The Most High) said:

لَّا تَجْعَلْ مَعَ اللَّهِ إِلَٰهًا آخَرَ فَتَقْعُدَ مَذْمُومًا مَّخْذُولًا

Set not up with Allah any other ilah (god), (O man)! , or you will sit down reproved, forsaken (in the hell fire)” [Soorah Al-Israa: Ayah:22]

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim (rahimahullaah) said:

Reproved and not praised by anyone, forsaken and having no helper. [1] That is because some people are subdued but they are praised, such as the one subdued based on falsehood. [2] And he may be reproved and helped, such as the one who is subdued and overpowered based on falsehood. [3] And it may be that he is praised and helped, such as the one who is steadfast and judges with justice.

[4] As for the one who associates a partner with [Allaah in worship], he is the degraded one amongst the four categories- neither is he praised nor helped. [Badaa-I At-Tafseer Al-Jaami Limaa Fassarahu Al-Imaam Ibnu Qayyim Al-Jawziyyah: Page: 136: vol: 2]

Shaykh Fawzaan: What is the meaning of the statement of Imaam Malik rahimahullah?

Shaykh Fawzaan was asked:

Question:

Is the statement of Imam Maalik rahimahullah: “Everyone’s statement can be taken or rejected except for the companion of this grave” Is this in the matters of Islamic Jurisprudence only and not in matters of Creed ?

Answer:

There is no (legitimate) differing in the matters of Creed (Aqeedah). There is no scope in (choosing to) take or reject (Issues of Aqeedah) because they are affairs founded upon the texts (of the Book and Sunnah) rather this (statement) is only (applicable) in the issues of jurisprudence. The speech of everyone in agreement with the evidences is taken and that which opposes the evidences is rejected. This is what Imaam Maalik (rahimahullah) intended.

Shaykh Fawzaan: What is meaning of the statement of Shaykhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah (rahimahullah)…. UPDATED

Shaykh Fawzaan was asked:

Question:

What is meaning of the statement of Shaykhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah rahimahullah “Whoever opposes the ijmaa (consensus of the scholars) then indeed he has disbelieved”?

Answer:

Yes! Allah said this:

{And whoever contradicts and opposes the Messenger (sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam) after the right path has been shown clearly to him, and follows other than the believer’s way, We shall keep him in the path he has chosen, and burn him in Hell – What an evil destination!}        Surah An-Nisa’ Verse 115

And this is an evidence upon the one who opposes the ijmaa, that indeed he has disbelieved.

The Principles of Takfir

“The most severely punished people on the Day of Resurrection would be the image-makers.” [Bukhaari & Muslim] UPDATED

  1. Two of the most poignant ahadith are the following and will clearly highlight the severity of partaking in taking photos and worse still doing an action that is haraam and then displaying it to be seen, whether in the houses, or on any type of social media; i.e. facebook, twitter etc

The most severely punished people (1) on the Day of Resurrection would be the image-makers. [Bukhaari and Muslim]

Every image-maker will be in the fire of Hell. A soul will be made for him for every image which he has made and it will punish him in the Hell-fire. [Muslim]

(1) Shaikh Uthaymeen was asked: how do we reconcile between the statement of the prophet (sallal.laahu.alayhi wasallam), “the people who will receive the severest punishment on the day of judgement will be the picture makers….” and the fact that the mushrikoon will receive the greatest punishment on the day of judgement.

Answer : The severest punishment here means; the severest punishment received by the sinners whose sins have not reached disbelief. As for the severest punishment received by the mushrikoon, their punishment will be the severest amongst all the people.

Ahadith from the Prophet sallallaahu’alaihiwasallam:

Allah’s Messenger said: “Those who make these images will be punished on the Day of Resurrection and it will be said to them, ‘Make alive what you have created.’” [Bukhaari and Muslim]

Narrated ’Aaishah radiyallaahu’anhaa: Allaah’s Messenger sallallaahu’alaihiwasallam returned from a journey when I had placed a curtain of mine having images over the door of a chamber of mine. When Allaah’s Messenger sallallaahu’alaihiwasallam saw it he tore it apart and said: “The people who will receive the severest punishment on the Day of Resurrection will be those who try to make the like of Allaah’s creation.” [Bukhaari]

The Prophet sallallaahu’alaihiwasallam forbade taking the price of blood, the price of a dog and the earnings of a prostitute. He also cursed the one who took or gave ribaa (interest), the lady who tattooed others or got herself tattoed, and the image maker. [Bukhaari]

The most severely punished people on the Day of Resurrection would be the image-makers. [Bukhaari and Muslim]

Every image-maker will be in the fire of Hell. A soul will be made for him for every image which he has made and it will punish him in the Hell-fire. [Muslim]

Allaah the Glorious and Exalted said, “Who is more a wrongdoer than one who tries to create creation like My creation. Let him create a small ant or a grain of wheat.” [Muslim]

Fatawa on the ruling of Photos:

Question: What is the ruling on taking photographs, when they are for necessity and when they are for adornment?

Answer: Pictures of living (humans and animals) are unlawful except for necessity. Examples of necessity include identity photos, passport photos, or photos of criminals for the purpose of identification and then arrest when they commit a crime or attempt to flee.

Question: What is the ruling concerning hanging a picture on the wall? What is the ruling concerning owning pictures of people?

Answer: It is not allowed to hang a picture or keep a picture of any being that possesses a soul. It is obligatory to destroy such pictures. This is because the Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alaihi-wasallam) said,

“Do not leave any image, but [instead] efface it.” [1] It was confirmed in the hadith of Jabir radiyallaahu ‘anhu that,

“That because the Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alaihi-wasallam) prohibited having pictures in houses.” [2]

Therefore, all pictures meant for remembrance should be torn to pieces or burnt. However, pictures that are needed out of necessity, such as for official identification purposes and so forth, may be kept.

Question: What is the ruling concerning taking pictures using a mobile phone considering some people say that it is just capturing a shadow and there is no prohibition in that, so what is the ruling concerning that?

Answer: For HIM there is no prohibition in that, as for the Sunnah and the evidences then picture taking/making in general is Haraam (prohibited) and the picture maker is cursed. And he will receive from the most severest of punishments on the Day of Judgment. So what is it that takes the mobile phone out from this generality? The Messenger made picture making Haraam without exception by any means; (whether that be by way of ) a mobile phone, a camera, by hand(sculpting) or by drawing, he made it absolutely Haraam. So who is he that makes an exception from what the messenger sallallaahu alaihi wasallam said and attempts to redress the messenger. Apart from that the Muhaqqiqeen (verifiers) from the Scholars make an exception in the case of necessity, if a person is in need of taking a picture for a necessity then it is allowed due to this necessity due to His saying – the Most High:

(وقَدْ فَصَّلَ لَكُم مَّا حَرَّمَ عَلَيْكُمْ إلاَّ مَا اضْطُرِرْتُمْ إلَيْهِ )

while He has explained to you in detail what is forbidden to you, except under compulsion of necessity? [Surah al-‘An’aam:119]

As for picture taking as a hobby or as a form of art by the use of the camera or by hand or by any object then it is Haraam and it is not allowed except in case of necessity only. In accordance to the necessity it is a concession. It is a concession due to a necessity only.

Question: When I go out on excursions with a group of friends, I take pictures to keep them as mementos. What is the ruling on taking pictures for this purpose?

Answer: The ruling is this practice is that it is unlawful, that is, if the picture is taken of something with a sole (a human or an animal), The Prophet (sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam) said: The people who will be most severely punished on the Day of Judgement will be the picture-makers. [1] The Prophet (sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam) also cursed those who make pictures. As for taking pictures of things without a soul – a car, a plane, a tree, etc., – there is no harm in that. And with Allaah is the facilitation to do what is right.

My dear brothers and sisters in Islaam this life is short and it is the place of action and increasing in good deeds and staying away from sins, and the hereafter is the place of accountability, where we will be held to account for that which we have done.

Do NOT underestimate the severity of this sin or the severity of the punishment due to this action, fear Allah oh muslims and repent to your Lord who is the Oft Forgiving but also know and remind yourselves that Allah is severe in punishment to those who transgress his limits, so repent to your Lord and leave off this action of photography which has such a dangerous recompense for the one who does it.

May Allah give us and you success in this life and the next.

Taariq Suwaydaan’s False Belief on Gog and Magog

Taariq Suwaydaan said: ”Despite (the) many narrations, there is not to be found an authentic evidence-neither with myself nor other than me- with regards to who Gog and Magog are precisely; but looking at the ahaadith about them and their description, it has become clear to me–and Allah knows best– that they are the people of China.’’

Shaikh Ahmad At-Tuwayjiree replied to Suwaydaan saying:

”This is the likes of what Taariq Suwaydaan stated that Gog and Magog are the people of China. The statement that Gog and Magog are the people of China is a statement that is in opposition to the evidences in the Kitaab and the Sunnah, and it is a mockery of the Aqeedah of pious predecessors. And before I begin refuting this corrupt statement O noble reader, I will begin with an introduction pertaining to the Aqeedah of Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jamaa-ah regarding Gog and Magog.  Allaah (subhaanah) said:

”Until when he reached between two mountains, he found, before (near) them (those two mountains), a people who scarcely understood a word. They said: O Dhul-Qarnain! Verily Gog and Magog are doing great mischief in the land. Shall we then pay you a tribute in order that you might erect a barrier between us and them? He said: That (wealth, authority and power) in which my Lord established me is better (than your tribute). So help me with strength (of men), I will erect between you and them a barrier. Give me pieces of (blocks) of iron; then, when he had filled up the gap between the two mountain-cliffs, he said: Blow; then when he had made them (red as) fire, he said: Bring me molten copper to pour over them. So they (Gog and Magog) could not scale it or dig through it. (Dhul-Qarnain) said: This is a mercy from my Lord, but when the Promise of my Lord comes, He shall level it down to the ground. And the Promise of my Lord is ever true. And on that day (i.e. the day Gog and Magog) will come out, We shall leave them to surge like waves on one another; and the Trumpet will be blown, and We shall collect them (the creatures) all together” Qur’aan 18:93-99

And Allaah (subhaanah) also said:

”Until when Gog and Magog are let loose (from their barrier), and they swoop down from every mound. And the true promise (Day of Resurrection) shall draw near (of fulfilment). Then (when mankind is resurrected from their graves), you shall see the eyes of the disbelievers fixedly staring in horror. (They will say): Woe to us! We were indeed heedless of this-nay, but we were (polytheists and wrong-doers)” Qur’aan (21:96-97)

So these two places in the Book of Allaah show clear evidences regarding the appearance of Gog and Magog before the establishment of The Hour; and their appearance is from the signs of the Hour before its establishment. There is to be found in the Sunnah many narrations showing, making it clear and clarifying this (affair). Amongst these evidences is the hadeeth of Hudhaifah bin Usayd Al Ghaf-faaree (radiyallaahu anhu) in (saheeh Muslim No: 4/2225) (Abu Dawood 4/115)

Hudhaifah bin Usayd said, ”We were sitting in the shade of the chamber of the Prophet (sallal-laahu alayhi wasallam) discussing, and he said, what are you discussing? They said, we are talking about the Hour. He (sallal-laahu alayhi wasallam) said: The Last Hour will not come until there appear ten signs before it: the Smoke, the appearance of ad-Daj-jaal, the Beast, the rising of the sun in its place of setting, the coming forth of the descent of Eesaa the son of Maryam, the appearance of Gog and Magog, and the three Subsidences, (one in the West, one in the East, and one in the Arabian Peninsula), and at the end a fire will issue forth from the Yemen and drive the people to their place of assembly. (Abu Daawood 4/115)

After quoting few more ahaadith, Sheikh Ahmad At-Tuwayjiree then stated on page 12…

Indeed this statement that Gog and Magog are the people of China is in opposition to what is firmly established in the texts that their appearance is NOT TO BE until after the descent of Eesaa, (alayhis salaam), and after the killing of Daj-jaal. It is also established in the texts that (Gog and Magog) will not live except for a short time after their appearance, and the people of China HAVE BEEN UPON THE STATE THEY ARE IN AT PRESENT FOR LONG PERIODS.

Indeed, the saying that Gog and Magog are the people of China is in opposition to that which Allaah (Jalla-Wa-Alaa) has stated in relation to what He (Jalla-Wa-Alaa) informed (us) about Dhul Qarnain, that he (Dhul Qarnain) constructed a huge IRON BARRIER between Gog and Magog and the people; and that they (Gog and Magog) are not able to penetrate it up until the coming close of the Hour. Also the statement of Taariq Suwaydaan that Gog and Magog are the people of China is against what As-Saadiq Al Masdooq (Muhammad- sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) has stated, that Gog and Magog excavate everyday (to make a hole through the barrier) till they are about to see the rays of the sun, then the one in charge of authority over them would say, ‘’Go back; we will dig it tomorrow.’’ Then Allaah makes it as strong as it was till Allaah intends to send them upon the people, when they will dig it till they see the rays of the sun and the one in authority over them would say, ‘’Go back we will dig it tomorrow if Allaah wills and they will say, ‘’if Allaah wills.’’ They will return to it and will find it in the same condition they left it. They will dig and come out to the people and drink the whole water and people will fortify themselves in their forts against them.

Sheikh Ahmad states after relating this narration:  And this is not what takes place with the people of China, rather they move when they wish and to any place as they wish. There is neither a barrier preventing (them) nor a blockage restraining (them).
