Precise Words of Wisdom and Advice Given By Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah to The Muslim Rulers Regarding The Raafidah

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah [rahimahullaah] said:

A notification to the one in charge of the affairs of the Muslims-may Allaah guide him-that the *Raafidah are not fit to be in authority over the Muslims in anything. They are not suitable for service in their troops and armies. And that is because they are the severest in enmity and harm against the Muslims than the Tartar enemies.  Likewise, they are enemies of the Muslim Rulers–their enmity is based on religion and religious enmity is more severe than enmity [based on] worldly affairs. And an enemy betrays, deceives and double-crosses.

*If the Raafidah manifest repentance to the Muslim rulers and freedom from Rafd [i.e. their evil beliefs of shirk, kufr etc], he [the Muslim ruler] should not believe them merely based on that; rather he should be cautious about their affair. He should split their group and make them take residence in different places in the country in which they will be [living] amongst Ahlus Sunnah. That is because if the affairs change and their state of affairs change, and thus they manifest the enmity in their souls, they will be known and exposed. They will not be able to aid one another in evil and corruption, as opposed to if they were [all] in specific places on their own, then indeed they will have strength and numbers, and will aid one another in evil. And neither will many of their plots be known nor what they are planning to carry out of evil.

*The Raafidah take shelter with the people of evil and corruption in general-those who plot against the servants [of Allaah], the [Muslim] lands and the [Muslim] rulers, such as the heretics- the Qaraamita, the Ismaa’eeliyyah, the Nusayriyyah and their ilk.

*Repelling the harm of the Raafidah from the Muslims and their lands is from the greatest [acts] of sincerity to Allaah; sincerity to the Messenger [i.e. adherence to his Sunnah, obeying his commandments and keeping away from what he has forbidden, and believing everything he has informed of]; sincerity to the Muslim leaders [i.e. obedience to the Muslim leaders in good, making du’aa for them and giving them good advice in private and not to rebel against them etc] and sincerity to the common people [i.e. loving for them what you love for yourself, advising them, commanding them good and forbidding them from evil, preventing them from what harms them and guiding them to what is of benefit to them in this life and the next etc].

They Make No Differentiation Between What Ahlus Sunnah Say and What Ahlul Bidah Say- Ibn Taymiyyah

Ibn Taymiyyah said:There are a people who know not Ahlus Sunnah’s creed as it should be; or they know some & are ignorant of some of it. They conceal what they know & do not clarify it for the people. They neither forbid innovations nor rebuke Ahlul Bidah. They would reject a statement in the Sunnah & make no differentiation between what Ahlus Sunnah say and what Ahlul Bidah say.
This path has overwhelmed many of the Murji’ah, the ascetics & philosophers, just as it has overwhelmed many people of desires & rhetoric.

Absolutely Forbidden To Fabricate Lies against People- Whether They Are Muslims or Non-Muslims

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah [rahimahullaah] said:

Lying against an individual is absolutely forbidden- whether the man [i.e. the one lied against] is a Muslim or a disbeliever, righteous or a wicked sinner-; but fabricating lies against a believer is more severe.

A Trait of Ahlul Bidah- They Pass Judgements in the Deen without Knowledge

Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah ( rahimahullah ) said:

When it is the case that the (true) followers of the Prophets are people of knowledge and justice, then the speech of the people of Islaam and the Sunnah about the disbelievers and people of bidah is (carried out) with knowledge and justice and not with conjecture and the soul’s desire. And due to this, the Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi wasallam) said: Judges are of three types, one of whom will go to Paradise and two to Hell. A man who knows the truth and judges with it will enter paradise; a man who knows the truth but judges with the opposite of it will enter the fire, and a man who judges for the people based on ignorance will enter the fire.’’ [Reported by Imaam Abu Dawud and others]

And when it is the case that the one who judges between the people in (affairs) of wealth, blood (i.e. murder cases, injury etc.) and honour will enter the hell fire if he is not a just scholar, then what about the one who passes judgements without knowledge-such being the case with ahlul bidah-on religions, the Usool of Imaan, affairs of knowledge related to Allaah, His Names, Attributes and Actions, and the lofty affairs of knowledge.’’

[Part 4] Tips for Patience on the Oppression of Others Upon You – Ibn Taymiyyah

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

The conclusion to the advice of Ibn Taymiyyah for those afflicted by oppression and splintered hearts desiring revenge….

“The servant must also be aware that if he has been oppressed due to some action he performed for the sake of Allah, or upon performing some commandment or refraining from some prohibition, then patience is obligatory upon him, and seeking revenge is not correct for him. For indeed [in such a scenario] he has been harmed and oppressed for the sake of Allah and so his reward is with Allah.

Similarly the servant must recognise that taking revenge may actually cause a greater harm, since the oppressor may return with a greater oppression therafter, such that you are unable to defend yourself and repel it. Therefore, the intelligent one does not choose the greater of the evils [i.e. by taking revenge and causing greater oppression upon himself], and how often is it seen that the one who takes revenge causes greater harm to come to him and he cannot repel it.

Thereafter, refraining from seeking revenge causes humility, shame and regret to befall the oppressor, as well the blameworthiness of the people upon him [since they will recognise the honour you have demonstrated by not seeking revenge upon his wrongdoing]. That may cause him to become an ally to you! This is the meaning of the statement of Allah in Suratul Fussilat 34-35, “Repel (the evil) with one which is better (i.e. Allah ordered the faithful believers to be patient at the time of anger, and to excuse those who treat them badly), then verily! he, between whom and you there was enmity, (will become) as though he was a close friend. But none is granted it (the above quality) except those who are patient, and none is granted it except the owner of the great portion (of the happiness in the Hereafter i.e. Paradise and in this world of a high moral character).”

Similarly, pardoning the oppressor causes him to inwardly sense that he is lower in honour than the one who he oppressed, and that will remain within him if the oppressed does not take revenge…and that is enough as a nobility for the oppressed to refrain from revenge.

Also be aware that this oppression that has occurred is either a means of expiating some sins or raising the oppressed in rank, however if he fails to remain patient and take revenge then he recieves neither of those. As for the one who does not demonstrate patience and habitualises himself upon seeking revenge for himself, then inevitably he will fall into oppression himself, since the emotion of anger [due to burning desire for revenge] exits a person from a state of understanding what he says and does, and so he may eventually end up taking more than his right.

Finally, if the oppressed one pardons and overlooks the wrongdoing then that is an action of goodness, which will then lead him onto performing another act of goodness, and then another and so on since from the reward of a good deed is the ability to perform more good deeds, and so his good deeds continue to increase…and this may become the cause for his saviour and happiness for eternity.”
