Interacting With Jews, Christians and Pagans In The West: [Brief Rebuttal of Ed Husain – A Murji, Carrier of Corrupt Creed, Pretender to Knowledge and Misguided Self-appointed Speaker On behalf of Muslims]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Al-Allaamah Rabee Bin Haadee Al-Madkhalee [may Allaah preserve him] said, “It is obligated on the people of truth to exercise patience and increase in adhering to this religion of truth. Whenever the desires become abundant, it becomes necessary to increase in acquainting (oneself) with the truth and adhering to it, as the Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: ‘The one who lives long amongst you will see a lot of differences, so upon you is that you follow my Sunnah and the Sunnah of the rightly guided khulafaa. Bite onto it with your molar teeth (i.e. hold onto it firmly) and beware of newly invented matters (in the religion), for every newly invented matter (in the religion) is a bidah and every bidah is misguidance”. [Majmoo 14/294 (3rd paragraph)]

Murji – Misguided Ed Husain – stated:

Al-Allaamah Rabee Bin Haadee Al-Madkhalee [may Allaah preserve him] stated:

Amongst the liars in this era are the figureheads of the political groups, such as the secularists and Baathists [Arab Nationalists], and many of the people who carry alluring slogans in the name of Islaam, such as Islamic socialism, Islamic democracy, the call to unity of religions and many other misguided claims made in the name of Islaam (a).

This takes place amongst groups who claim that they are seeking to raise Islaam very high and that they are established to return the Islamic Ummah to its past glory; however they increase the people in misguidance and darkness, and Allaah’s Refuge is sought. This poses a more severe danger to the people and the youth, therefore it is obligated on the Muslims and the students of knowledge to be extremely cautious of all these types of people, warn the Muslims against their plots and plans, and unveil their secrets. And the Muslims should adhere firmly to the Book of their Lord and the Sunnah of their Prophet; follow the Salafus Saaleh [pious predecessors] in their creed, methodology, loyalty and disassociation, and to deal with this dangerous category of people about whom the Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] feared for his Ummah – warn them against these groups and make it known that he feared for them regarding these people more than he feared for them regarding Dajjaal, so that they deal with them in the manner that the Salafus Saaleh [pious predecessors] dealt with them- by being cautious, warning against them, unveiling their hidden affairs and making known the defects within them in order to protect the religion and as a means of sincere advice to the Muslims. (1)

There is no doubt that Ed Husain is one of the liars – those misguided deceivers who carry alluring slogans in the name of Islaam, such as the callers to unity of religions and many other misguided claims made in the name of Islaam, especially in the name of peaceful coexistence. Indeed, misguided Ed Husain and his ilk seek to distance themselves from the extremism of the Khawaarij and Hizb at-Tahreer, but then they end upon falling into the extremism of those whose pursuit of peace coexistence has led them to transgression against the sound Islamic creed from another angle, especially in the subject matter of Walaa Wal Baraa [Loyalty and Disavowal For The Sake of Alaah]. Types of Loyalty and Allegiance to Non-Muslims

The Loyalty That Would Remove a Person From The Fold of Islaam: The precise principle regarding this loyalty and allegiance is when a person loves and supports the religion of the disbelievers and their creed. Whoever loves a disbeliever due to his religion or creed, or helps a disbeliever due to his religion or creed, then indeed he has fallen into this type loyalty and allegiance. The second type of loyalty is related to dealing with them in trade, visiting them and they visit you, giving gifts to one another etc This does not remove a person from the fold of Islam, rather at times it is permissible, such as being kind to a disbeliever who is not at war with the Muslim state, just as Allaah [The Exalted] said:

لاَ يَنْهَاكُمْ اللَّهُ عَنْ الَّذِينَ لَمْ يُقَاتِلُوكُمْ فِي الدِّينِ وَلَمْ يُخْرِجُوكُمْ مِنْ دِيَارِكُمْ أَنْ تَبَرُّوهُمْ وَتُقْسِطُوا إِلَيْهِمْ إِنَّ اللَّهَ يُحِبُّ الْمُقْسِطِينَ

Allah does not forbid you to deal justly and kindly with those who fought not against you on account of religion and did not drive you out of your homes. Verily, Allah loves those who deal with equity. [Surah Al-Mumtahina. Verse 8]
And at other times, this loyalty is forbidden, such as imitating their specific traits [i.e. either their un-Islamic customs and habits, whether clothing, appearance, behaviour or religious practices]. The Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said, “Whoever imitates a people is from them”. [Read more heres: https://www.abukhadeejah.com/tag/imitating-non-muslims/ ]

Sometimes this loyalty is recommended such as being kind to a disbeliever to draw his heart to Islaam and calling him to Islam, and at other times this loyalty is obligatory, such as kind treatment to non-Muslim parents. Allaah [The Exalted] said:

And We have enjoined on man (to be dutiful and good) to his parents. His mother bore him in weakness and hardship upon weakness and hardship, and his weaning is in two years give thanks to Me and to your parents, unto Me is the final destination. But if they (both) strive with you to make you join in worship with Me others that of which you have no knowledge, then obey them not, but behave with them in the world kindly, and follow the path of him who turns to Me in repentance and in obedience. Then to Me will be your return, and I shall tell you what you used to do. [Surah Luqmaan. Verses 14-15]

A Muslim Helps Without Intending to Aid The Disbeliever’s Religion or Creed

Prophet Moosaa [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] helped the disbeliever who was from his nation against a person from the people of Firawn. Allaah [The Exalted] said:

And he entered the city at a time of unawareness of its people, and he found there two men fighting, – one of his party (his religion – from the Children of Israel), and the other of his foes. The man of his (own) party asked him for help against his foe, so Musa (Moses) struck him with his fist and killed him. He said: “This is of Shaitan‘s (Satan) doing, verily, he is a plain misleading enemy.” [Surah Al-Qasas. Aayah 15] (2) Must read: https://www.abukhadeejah.com/having-alliance-with-the-non-muslims-is-of-two-types-misunderstanding-this-affair-leads-people-astray/ https://www.abukhadeejah.com/treaties-with-the-non-muslims-do-they-necessitate-allegiance/

Imaam Abdul Azeez Bin Baaz [may Allaah have mercy upon him] stated regarding the relationship between between a Muslim and a Non-Muslim: “He [i.e. the Muslim] must not oppress him – neither physically nor with regards to his wealth and honour. If the Non-Muslim is citizen in the Islamic state, a Mustamin or Mu’aahid, then his rights must be given. He must not be oppressed with regards to his wealth, such a theft, treachery nor deception”. Loyalty to Believers

Abu Umamah [may Allaah be pleased with him] said, “Allaah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said, ‘Whoever loves for the sake of Allah, hates for the sake of Allah, gives for the sake of Allah, and withholds for the sake of Allah has perfected the faith'”. [Saheeh Sunan Abee Daawud 4681]

The Prophets and the righteous are given full loyalty. There are believers who are given loyalty in one way but not the other, such as the open sinners – those whose sins have not removed them from the fold of Islam. The loyalty they receive necessitates that they are advised, commanded to do good and forbidden from evil. And the disavowal shown to them necessitates that they may be boycotted and the distinguished people of piety refrain from attending their funerals. (i.e. as a rebuke, so that others do not follow their footsteps, but not because they are disbelievers, rather their funeral is attended by other Muslims). (4)

Replying to The Greeting of Non-Muslims

Imaam Muhammad Ibn Saaleh al-Uthaymeen [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said:

If the non-Muslims give us salaam, we return the (Salaam) because Allaah [The Most High] said: When you are greeted with a greeting, greet in return with what is better than it, or (at least) return it equally. [Surah An-Nisaa’ Aayah 86] So, if they [i.e. non-muslims] say: ‘Assalaamu alaykum [i.e. peace be upon you]’, we say clearly ‘Alaykumus salaam’ [i.e. peace be upon you], because [Allaah] states in the Aayah [i.e. Aayah 86 Surah An-Nisaa]: Greet in return with what is better than it, or [at least] return it equally. The only [reason] the Prophet [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] commanded us to say ‘Wa alaykum’ [i.e. ‘And upon you’ without the word Salaam] is because they [i.e. some of the yahood in Madeenah used to say to the Muslims out of hatred], ‘As-Saam Alaykum [i.e. death be upon you] as occurs in the hadeeth narrated by Abdullaah Ibn Umar: “Indeed, when the Yahood give you salaam, they say, As-saam ‘alaykum [i.e. death be upon you]; so say, ‘Wa alaykum’ [i.e. And upon you]. (5) [Must Read: Greeting and Interacting with the Jews, Christians and Pagans ―Even if they are oppressive: https://www.abukhadeejah.com/how-to-conduct-oneself-with-the-jews-christians-others-even-if-they-be-tyrants/ ]

Therefore, one should differentiate the corrupt loyalty championed by the callers to misguidance – Ed and Husain and his ilk – and the one ordained in the sound divine texts. Islaam is free from the extremism of the khawaarij (ISIS and ilk) and the destructive negligence promoted by Ed Hudain – the caller to falsehood – and his misguided companions amongst the Murji’ah. Reminder to Muslims Who Have Recently Been Wishing “A Happy Birthday to a Muslim Ruler” On Twitter

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Indeed, it is pleasing to the hearts when one sees Muslims supplicating for their rulers and ignoring the provocations of the internal reckless instigators and the external opportunistic western ideologues- those who want to sow the seeds of animosity and hatred between the Muslim rulers and their subjects; however love for the Muslim rulers and the Muslim nations should not lead us to oppose the authentic Prophetic Tradition. This is a reminder to those Muslims who have recently been wishing a “Happy Birthday to a Muslim ruler”.

[A] Birthday Celebrations:

Imaam Muhammad Bin Saaleh Al-Uthaymeen [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said:

Everything that is taken as a day of day of celebration [Festival and Annual Celebrations], repeated every week and every year and is not legislated in Islaam, then it is a Bidah [i.e. religious innovation]. The evidence is because the One Who [i.e. Allaah] legislates everything [i.e. either in the Qur’aan and the authentic Prophetic Tradition] has legislated the “Aqeeqah” for the newly born baby and did not legislate anything after that. So, taking these celebrations [festivals] that are repeated every week or every year means that they [i.e. the people who do so] have likened them to Islamic festivals [days of celebrations, days set aside for religious observance] and this is forbidden- not permissible. There is nothing in Islam related to festivals [celebrations or days set aside for religious observance] except for the three: Eid Al-Fitr, Eid Al-Adha, and Eidul Usboo, which is Friday. [Ref 1]

[B] Celebrations for such and such person:

Imaam Abdul Azeez Bin Baaz [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said:

All of this is Munkar [i.e. considered evil in the Islamic legislation], whether for the person, his mother, his daughter or son. All this that has been newly invented – nowadays – is an imitation of the Christians or the Jews [i.e. those amongst them who changed the religion after the departure of their Prophets]. It has no basis nor a foundation [i.e. in the Islamic legislation]. Mother’s day, Father’s Day, Uncle’s Day, the day for a particular person (as celebration or congratulation), or the day for his daughter or son, then all of this is Munkaraat [considered evil in the Islamic legislation]. All of it is an innovation in religious affairs, an imitation of Allaah’s enemies and nothing from it is permissible. [Ref 2]

[C] National Day Celebrations:

Imaam Abdul Azeez Bin Baaz [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said:

National day Celebration is an innovation in religious affairs [i.e. because only the two Eeds have been legislated for that purpose]. As for “Week of the Scholars”, it is not a religious innovation. During this week, their books are presented and it is not a religious innovation. It is a week in which books are presented, so it is said, “The week for the book of such and such person, the week thereafter the book of such and such, and the week after it, the book of such and such”. This is not a religious innovation. This is a presentation of books, a clarification of what such and such person has authored and the those books of his that have been printed. If it is said, “This is Muhammad’s week, this is Shaikhul Islaam’s week, this is the week of Izz Bin Abdis Salaam and Al-Qurtubee’s week, in which their books are presented, then this is not a newly invented matter into the religion, (rather) it is to present their books openly, sell and distribute them amongst the people. As for National Day and celebrating National Day on any day or celebrating the night of Raghaa’ib, then all of this is an innovation in religion and an imitation of Allaah’s enemies. [Ref 3]

The Imaam [may Allaah have mercy upon him] also said:

This National Day (celebration is tantamount to) an imitation of Allaah’s enemies. The National Days of celebration are an imitation. It may have occurred due a good intention and based on a judgement made by some after striving to reach the correct verdict in an affair; but what is apparent to us is that it is not legislated and it is not from that which is befitting; rather imitation of Allaah’s enemies is found within it, even if worship is not intended by way of it. As for if worship was intended by way of it, then it would be an innovation in religion, but worship is not intended by way of it; rather what is intended is to congratulate, manifest what the country has established and done, therefore, this is considered to be similar to the other days initiated by the Jews and Christians [i.e. those amongst them who changed the religion after the departure of their Prophets] for remembrance or for other reasons. So, it is not befitting [or not permissible] to imitate them- neither in this affair nor in other than it [i.e. those affairs which the Islamic legislation has neither allowed nor legislated]. [Ref 4]

What is Aqeeqah For The Newly Born?

Al-Allaamah Saaleh Al-Fawzaan [may Allaah preserve him] said: One of the rights of the child upon his father is that he should slaughter a sacrifice for him. He should slaughter for the Aqeeqah on his behalf as an act worship and thanks-giving to Allaah (The Most High). There is seeking nearness to Allaah and being thankful to Him in this (sacrifice) and there is good in it for the newly born because goodness is found in acts of worship. Therefore, he slaughters two sheep for the boy and one for the girl. This is an established Sunnah and there is goodness in it for the newly born. He (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) said: ‘’Every newly born is in pledge for his/her aqeeqah’’ (Reported by Abu Daawood. No:2831) The sacrificial slaughter, shaving of the head and naming the child are to be done on the seventh day, and these are from the means of bringing about goodness for the new born. The expense for this is to be undertaken by the father. [Ref 5]

Therefore, it is pleasing to hearts when one knows that Muslims love their leaders and wish them good, but the authentic Sunnah must be followed. The birthday of none is to be celebrated – not even the birthday of the most noble person amongst humankind [The Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)], because it is not legislated in the divine legislation. Rather we supplicate for our rulers, obey them in good and never rebel against them.

Imaam Abdul Azeez Bin Baaz [may Allaah have mercy upon him] was asked about the one who refrains from supplicating for the ruler, so he replied: ”This is from the ignorance and lack of foresight of this person, because indeed supplicating for the ruler is one of the greatest acts of worship and righteous deeds. It is one of the acts of sincerity to the Allaah and sincerely wanting good for Allaah’s servants. When Tufayl Ibn Amr Ad-Dawsi [may Allaah be pleased with him] came to the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] and said to him, ”Daws (a well-known tribe of disbelievers) are doomed, they have disobeyed and been stubborn. Pray to Allah against them”. He said, ”O Allaah! Guide Daws and bring them here”. [Bukhaari and Muslim] So, Allaah guided Daws and they became Muslims. Therefore, a believer supplicates for the people to be blessed with good and the ruler is more entitled to it, because his rectification is a means of rectification for the Muslim nation. Supplicating for him is one of the most important supplications – one of the most important acts of sincerity to Allaah and sincerely wanting good for the Muslims, so one supplicates for him to be guided to the truth and helped upon that path, that Allaah grants him righteous companions, keeps him away from the evils of his soul and the evils of the people he sits with. Therefore, supplicating for him to be guided, blessed with the ability to do good, blessed with a righteous heart, blessed with good deeds and righteous companions, is one of the most important things to ask for and one of the most virtuous acts of worship. It has been reported from Imaam Ahmad [may Allaah have mercy upon him] that he said, ‘If I knew that I have one supplication that would be accepted, I would make it for the ruler’, and he reported this from Al-Fudayl Ibn Iyaadh [may Allaah have mercy upon him]”’. [Ref 6]

Imaam Muhammad Ibn Saaleh Al-Uthaymeen [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “If you see something from the ruler that is in opposition to (the Qur’an and Sunnah), then supplicate to Allaah for him because their rectification is a means of rectification for the Muslim nation; but when we say, ‘O Allaah! Rectify the rulers and guide them’, we hear some of the foolish people saying, ‘O Allaah! Do not rectify them’. Glorified be Allaah, The Most Great! If Allaah does not rectify them, then that would be more evil for you, so supplicate for them to be guided and become righteous, and Allaah is able to do everything’”. [Ref 7]

Imaam Al-Bayhaqqi [rahimahullaah] said, “Abu Uthmaan (may Allaah have mercy upon him) said, ‘Advise the ruler and supplicate for him a lot to be upright, guided in speech and action, and in his judgments, because indeed if they are righteous, the people will be righteous due to their righteousness. And beware of supplicating against them to be cursed and they increase in evil, so calamity increases on the Muslims; rather supplicate for them to be granted the ability to repent so that they abandon evil and calamity is removed from the believers’”. [Ref 8]

Imaam Ibn Salaah [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “The leaders of the Muslims deserve to be advised, aided upon truth and obeyed in that. They should be notified and reminded with gentle and kind speech, avoid rebelling against them and supplicate for them to be blessed with guidance and good deeds. [Ref 9]

Imaam An-Nawawi [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “The scholars hold a consensus that it is recommended to supplicate for the rulers and leaders of the Muslims during the Jumu’ah khutbah, that Allaah rectifies them, helps them to establish truth and justice, and what is similar to it, as well as supplicate for Muslim armies”. [Ref 10]

Shaikh Abdullaah Abaa Batayn [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “The good supplication for the ruler during the khutbah is that one supplicates that Allaah rectifies and guides him, rectifies the affairs through him, aid him against the kuffaar and the corrupt people, as opposed to what is found in some of the khutbahs of praise and lies; rather the ruler is to supplicated for and not praised, especially when praised with something he does not possess”. [Ref 11]

Words Cannot Change True Reality In The Eyes of Rightly Guided Observers – [Shirk at The Graves, Tombs, Shrines and Mausoleums Can Never Be Called Something Else]: By Shaikh Abdullaah Bin Abdir Rahmaan Abaa Batayn

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Shaikh Abdullaah Bin Abdur Rahmaan Abaa Batayn [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said:
The entire religion enters into worship, so when a person knows, is certain regarding what ‘Al Ilaah’ means – that it means something worshipped and he knows the reality of what worship is, then it will become clear to him that the one who devotes an act to worship to other than Allaah has indeed worshipped that thing and taken it as a god, even if he runs away from naming it an object of worship or a god, and then calls it Tawassul, intercession or what is similar. [Listen here regarding At-Tawassul: https://soundcloud.com/salafi-publications/tawassul-seeking-a-means-of ]

A polytheist is a polytheist, whether he accepts or denies it, just as a usurer is a usurer whether he accepts or denies it, even if he does not call what he does usury. The drinker of alcohol is a drinker of alcohol, even if he calls it other than its name. It has been reported in a hadeeth that the Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said, ”Indeed, a people from my Ummah will drink alcohol giving it other than its (real) name”. [Ref 1]

Al-Allaamah Zayd Bin Haadee Al-Madkhalee [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, ”This hadeeth contains a Prophetic miracle in relation to the information given by the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] about an affair of the unseen and that this will definitely occur. What the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] stated that alcohol will be given a name other than its real name will definitely occur. Indeed – in our era – alcohol has been given another name to deceive the people and urge them towards it, such as the name Mashroob Roohee [i.e. (The sprightly drink or the drink that makes you lively)], instead of giving its real name Khamr (i.e. alcohol) as it is said, ‘Al-Khamru Takh’murul Aql – Alcohol veils (or obscures) the intellect’. And they have given it other names as well, but it does not isolate it from the fact that it is khamr (alcohol) and it is forbidden”. [Ref 2]

Changing names cannot change the reality of the person (or something) nor does the ruling that apply ceases. When Adee Bin Haatim [may Allaah be pleased with him] heard the statement of Allaah: [ٱتَّخَذُوٓاْ أَحۡبَارَهُمۡ وَرُهۡبَـٰنَهُمۡ أَرۡبَابً۬ا مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ – They have taken their priests and monks as lords besides Allah] [Surah At-tawbah. Aayah 31], he said to the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him], ”We did not worship them”, so the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said to him, ”Do they not forbid what Allaah has made lawful and you make it forbidden, and they make lawful what Allaah has forbidden and you make it lawful?” He said, ”Certainly”, so the Messenger said, ”That is your worship of them”. Therefore, Adee [may Allaah be pleased with him] did not think that being in agreement with them in such an affair was tantamount to worshipping them, so the Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] informed him that it was tantamount to worshipping them, even though they did not believe that it was an act of worship devoted to them. Must read the detail explanation of this subject matter on this link: http://www.salafipublications.com/sps/sp.cfm/sad/…/images/frm/downloads/pdf/frm/nbq/nbq/sad/downloads/pdf/sp.cfm?subsecID=MNJ05&articleID=MNJ050004&articlePages=1

Likewise, that which the grave worshippers do, such as invoking the inhabitants of the graves [i.e. the dead], asking them to fulfil their needs, to remove their suffering, seeking closeness to them by offering sacrifices to them and vowing to them, then this is tantamount to worshipping the inhabitants of the graves, even if those who commit such acts do not name it as such or do not believe that it is worship.

Likewise, those who said to the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him], “Set up a Dhaat Anwaat (i.e. a lote-tree in whose vicinity the idolaters used to stay and hang their weapons to seek blessings) for us” did not think that their statement was similar to the statement of the Children of Israel, ”Make for us a god”. They [i.e. those new Muslims who were with the Prophet at the Battle of Husnayn] did not think that such statement was tantamount to deifying other than Allaah which negates the statement, ”There is no deity worthy of worship except Allaah”, for indeed they did testify that none has the right to be worshipped except Allaah and knew its meaning because they were Arabs, however this affair [i.e. the real implication of the statement ”Set up for us a Dhaat Anwaat”] was hidden from them because they were new in Islaam until the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said to them, ”Allaahu Akbar! This is a path that has proceeded (from the people of the past). By Allaah in whose Hand my soul is! You have stated just as the children of Israel said to Moosaa [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him], ”O Moosaa! Make for us Ilaahan (a deity) as they have Aalihah (deities)!” He (Moosaa) said, ”Verily, you are a people who know not (the Majesty and Greatness of Allah and what is obligatory upon you, i.e. to worship none but Allah Alone, the One and the Only God of all that exists)”. You will follow the way of those who came before you”.

If it is said, ”Indeed, the prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] did not make declare those new Muslims to exited the fold of Islam”, so we say, ”This shows that the one who utters a statement that is tantamount to disbelief or out of being ignorant of its meaning, he is to be notified and he becomes aware and has not disbelieved; but there is no doubt that if they took the Dhaat Anwaat as [an object of worship besides Allaah] after the disapproval of the Prophet, then they would have disbelieved”. Grave Worshippers of Today Have a Fair Share of The Shirk of Their Predecessors In The Previous Nations [i.e. The Grave Worshippers Amongst The Jews and Christians Who Went Astray After The Departure of Their Prophets] – By Imaam al-Aloosee

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Imaam Al-Aloosee [May Allaah have mercy upon him] said:

It has been reported in a hadeeth whose authenticity is agreed upon by Al-Bukhaari and Muslim [that the Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)] said, “Indeed, you will follow the way of those before you, hand span by hand span, cubit by cubit, to the extent that if they entered into the hole of a lizard, you will enter it too”. [Al-Bukhaari 1397, Muslim 4822]

He [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] informed us that indeed there will be in his Ummah those who will follow the previous nations – the ignorant people amongst the people of the scriptures and other than them – hand span by hand span as has been explained in the hadeeth. There is no doubt that what he [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] informed us has occurred, because indeed he is As-Saadiq Al-Masdooq [the truthful one and the one believed in everything he says] and he does not speak out of his own desires. Certainly those who adhere to his guidance and follow that which has been established in his Sunnah are not the ones intended in this hadeeth due to that which is established (in the other) hadeeth regarding the sects, that these people are the Firqatun Naaji’yah [the saved sect] – those upon [i.e. adhering to] that which the Messenger and his companions adhered to. [End of quote. Ghaayah al-Amaanee Fee Radd Alan Nabahaanee 1/19-20] The Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said, ”My Ummah will divide into 73 sects, all of them will be in the fire except one, and that is the Jamaa’ah. It was said, ‘And who are they, O Allaah’s Messenger?’ He said, ‘That which I and my companions are upon today [i.e. at present]”’. [Tirmidhee 2641]

Therefore, it has to be the case that the people who follow the footsteps of the Jews and Christians are those who substitute and change (the religion), innovate in religious affairs and distort, imitate the previous nations in their actions and deeds, such as building tombs and mosques on the graves of their righteous people- invoking them during important events, during times when they face very painful situations and other than that (similar) to what the Jews, Christians and idol worshippers used to do. And amongst the extremists and innovators – the grave worshippers – there are those with the traits of the Jews, the Christians and the idol worshippers which attest to the fact that they follow their way hand span by hand span, cubit by cubit, and we shall mention some of this as a clear example of what we intend to point out.

Among their traits [i.e. those Jews and Christians who went astray after the departure of their Prophets, as well as the idol worshippers] is that they used to perform acts of worship whilst associating partners with Allaah- associated the righteous people as partners with Allaah in worship and considered it as a type of exalting the righteous people that is beloved to Allaah. Also their goal was to have their needs fulfilled and to be granted success through seeking the intercession of the righteous people, because they thought that the righteous people loved that they do so.

Indeed, the Qur’aan has informed us of this trait of theirs. Allaah [The Exalted] said:

Verily, We have sent down the Book to you (O Muhammad ) in truth: So worship Allah (Alone) by doing religious deeds sincerely for Allah’s sake only, (and not to show-off, and not to set up rivals with Him in worship). Surely, the religion (i.e. the worship and the obedience) is for Allah only. And those who take Auliya’ (protectors and helpers) besides Him (say): “We worship them only that they may bring us near to Allah.” Verily, Allah will judge between them concerning that wherein they differ. [Surah Az-Zumar. 2-3]

The worship devoted by the idol worshippers to them was that they supplicated to them, sought their needs from them, sacrificed animals to them, vowed to them and made oaths to them. Allaah [The Exalted] said: [وَيَعۡبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ مَا لَا يَضُرُّهُمۡ وَلَا يَنفَعُهُمۡ وَيَقُولُونَ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ شُفَعَـٰٓؤُنَا عِندَ ٱللَّهِ‌ۚ – And they worship besides Allah things that hurt them not, nor profit them, and they say: “These are our intercessors with Allah]. [Surah Yunus. Aayah 18] [End of quote. Ghaayah Al-Amaanee Radd Alan Nabahaanee. 1/19-20]

Imaam Abdul Azeez Bin Baaz [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said: Some people invoke the inhabitant of a grave and others beseech him for help; some make vows to him and others seek assistance from him just as the Quraish pagans and other than them used to do during Al-Jaahiliyyah [i.e. during the period of pre-Islamic Ignorance], because they used to invoke Al-Uzza, Al-laat, Manaat and other idols, and likewise the polytheists-in every era-invoke their idols and those images they worship besides Allaah. They exalt them, invoke, seek assistance and blessings from them. This practice is a plot of shaytaan because what he eagerly wants to achieve is to distance people from the sound Islamic creed through every means. [End of quote. Awaamil Islaah Al-Mujtama’ah pages 1-27]

Invocation, vows, offering sacrifices etc are acts of worship and can only be carried out for Allaah alone, and not for graves, tombs, shrines and their dead inhabitants.

Ad-Du’aa: Invocation: “Your Lord says: O people, invoke Me and supplicate to Me making your worship sincerely for Me alone, and I will answer you, and pardon you and have mercy upon you. Indeed those who disdain to worship Me alone will enter Hell-Fire in disgrace. [Soorah Ghaafir. 60]

So the noble Aayah proves that invocation/supplication (du’aa) is worship, and if that were not the case it would not be said “those who disdain to worship Me alone….” So whoever called upon anyone besides Allaah[The Mighty and Majestic], requesting something which none but Allaah has power over, then he is a mushrik (one who worships others besides Allaah), an unbeliever (kaafir), whether the one he calls upon is living or dead. Whoever requests a living person for something which he is able to do, such as the saying: ‘O so and so give me food’ or ‘O so and so give me a drink,’ then there is no harm in that. But whoever asks a dead person or someone who is absent for that, then he is a mushrik, since the deceased or the absent cannot possibly do that. So in such a case his supplicating to them shows that he believes that they have some control over the creation, and he is therefore a mushrik. It must be noted that du’aa is of two types: (i) Supplication, when a request is made (du ‘aa-u mas’alah) and, (ii) invocation through worship (du’aa-u Ibaadah). So supplication is to request ones needs and is worship when the servant requests that from his Lord.

This is because it involves showing one’s poverty before Allaah [The Most High], and one’s need to turn to Him, and one’s certain faith that He is the one having full power, the Most Generous, the one who gives bounteously and is Most Merciful. Seeking one’s needs from someone else from the creation is permissible if the one to whom the request is made is able to hear and understand it, and has the power to respond to it, like the saying: ‘O so and so give me food.’ As for invocation through worship, then it is that the person does an act of worship seeking reward and fearing punishment, and this is not correct unless directed to Allaah alone. To direct this to anyone else besides Allaah is major shirk which takes a person out of the Religion, and he falls under the threat in the Saying of Allaah[Te Most High], “Your Lord says: O people, invoke Me and supplicate to Me making your worship sincerely for Me alone, and I will answer you, and pardon you and have mercy upon you. Indeed those who disdain to worship Me alone will enter Hell-Fire in disgrace.” [Soorah Ghaafir. 60]

Al- Isti’aanah-Appealing for aid and assistance: The evidence for this act of worship is the verse of the Qur’aan: “O Allaah You alone we worship, and to You alone we appeal for aid” [Soorah al-Faatihah. 5] and in the hadeeth there occurs: “If you seek help, then seek the help of Allaah.” [Reported by at-Tirmidhee and declared Saheeh by Shaykh al-Albaanee in al-Mishkaat (no.5302)]
Al-isti’aanah is to appeal for assistance, and it is of various types:

(i) Appealing for aid and assistance from Allaah – this is an appeal for aid and assistance that comprises complete humility of the servant before his Lord, and to submit and entrust the affair to Him, and to be certain that He is fully sufficient for him. This is not to be except for Allaah, the Most High, alone, and the evidence is the Saying of Allaah, the Most High, “O Allaah You alone we worship, and to You alone we appeal for aid.” [Soorah al-Faatihah]. The fact that this is to be for Allaah, the Most High, alone is shown by the fact that He mentions the word upon which the verb acts before the verb itself, and according to the principles of grammar of the Arabic language, in which the Qur’aan came down, bringing forward that which usually comes afterwards indicates restriction and particularisation. So directing this type to other than Allaah, the Most High, is shirk which takes a person out of the Religion.

(ii) Seeking the help of a person from the creation, in something which he is capable of helping in. Then this will be in accordance with the action in which help is sought. If it is a good action then it is permissible for the person to seek help upon it, and prescribed for a person to help in that, as Allaah [The Most High] says, “And assist one another upon righteous actions and avoidance of sins.” [Soorah Al-Maa’idah. Aayah 2]

If it is a sinful thing, then it is forbidden for the person doing it and for the one who assists, as Allaah, [The Most High] says, “And do not assist one another in abandoning what Allaah has commanded and upon transgressing the limits laid down in the Religion.” [Soorah al-Maa’idah. Aayah 2]

If it is something permissible, then it is allowed for the person to seek help and to be assisted, and the one who is helping may be rewarded for kind treatment and thus it becomes something prescribed for him as Allaah [The Most High] says, “And do good, indeed Allaah loves those who do good.” [Soorah al-Baqarah. Aayah 195]

(iii) Seeking the help of a person from the creation who is alive and present, except that it is something which he is incapable of, then this is futile and useless. For example that he seeks the help of a weak person in order to carry something very heavy.

(iv) Seeking the aid of any deceased person, or the aid of the living in a matter of the hidden and unseen, which they cannot reach. Then this is shirk since it will only be done by a person who believes that those whose help he seeks have some hidden control over the creation.

(v) Seeking help by performing deeds that are beloved to Allaah, the Most High. This is something that is prescribed due to the Saying of Allaah [The Most High], “And seek assistance through patience and Prayer.” [Soorah al-Baqarah. Aayah 45]

The author uses as evidence for the first type the Saying of Allaah [The Most High], “O Allaah You alone we worship, and to You alone we appeal for aid” [Soorah al-Faatihah Aayah 5], and the saying of the Prophet saying: “If you seek help then seek the help of Allaah”.

The evidence for seeking refuge (al-isti’aadhah) is the Saying of Allaah, the Most High: “Say: I seek refuge with the Lord of the dawn” [Soorah al-Falaq. Aayah 1] and “Say: I seek refuge with the Lord of mankind”.[Soorah an-Naas Aayah 1]

Al-Isti’aadhah-To seek refuge; which is to seek protection against that which one hates and involves seeking refuge and shelter and protection from someone, and is of various types:

(i) Seeking the refuge of Allaah, the Most High, and this involves ones complete need of Him, attachment to Him, and one’s certain faith in His being sufficient and His perfect protection from everything, whether in the present or the future, small or large, human or not, and the proof is the Sayings of Allaah, the Most High, “Say: I seek refuge with the Lord of the dawn, from the evil of that which He created…” [Soorahal-Falaq. l-2] “Say: I seek refuge with the Lord of mankind; the king of mankind; the one who is worshipped rightfully by mankind; from the evil of Satan who whispers into the hearts of mankind and then withdraws when they remember Allaah…” [Soorah an-Naas. 1-4]

(ii) Seeking refuge in one of Allaah’s attributes, such as His Speech, His Greatness, His Might, and so on. The evidence for this are his sayings: The Prophet said, “I seek refuge in the perfect Words of Allaah from the evil of that which He created” [Reported by Muslim (Eng. transl. 4/ 142l/no.654l)]. He said, “I seek refuge in Your Might that I should not be assailed from below” [Reported by Aboo Daawood (Eng. transl. 3/1408/no. 5056) and declared Saheeh by Shaykh al-Albaanee in Saheeh Sunan Abee Dawood (no. 4239)]. Also his saying in the supplication recited when suffering from pain, “I seek refuge in the Might and Power of Allaah from the evil of what I feel and am wary of.” [Reported by Muslim (Eng. transl. 3/1198/no. 5462) and Ibn Maajah (no. 3522)]. The Prophet said, “I seek refuge in Your Pleasure from Your Wrath” [Reported by Muslim (Eng. transl. l/255/no.986)]. His saying, when Allaah, the Most High, sent down His Saying: “Say He is the One fully able to send punishment upon you from above.” [Soorah al-An’aam (6):65] He said: “I seek refuge in Your Face.” [Collected by al-Bukhaaree (Eng. transl. 9/370/503)].

(iii) Seeking refuge either with the dead, or with living people who are not present and able to grant refuge, then this is shirk. In this regard Allaah, the Most High, says, “And there were men from mankind who used to seek refuge with men of the jinn, and so that only increased them in transgression.” [Soorah al-Jinn. Aayah 6]

Seeking shelter with some person or in some place, or the like, as long as it is something which can serve the purpose of providing shelter. Then this is permissible and the evidence is his saying, speaking about tribulations, “Whoever exposes himself to them will be destroyed by them, and whoever finds a place of shelter or refuge from them, then let him take shelter in it” [Reported by alBukhaaree (Eng. transl. vol. 9/p. 158/no.203) and Muslim (Eng. transl. 4/1495/no.6893)]. He also explained this place of shelter or refuge in his saying, “So whoever has camels should stick to his camels…“ [Reported by Muslim (Eng. transl. 4/1495-1496/no.6896)]. There also occurs in Saheeh Muslim (Eng. transl. 3/91 I/no.4190) from Jaabir that a woman from the tribe of Banoo Makhzoom stole something, so then she was brought to the Prophet and she sought refuge with Umm Salamah. He also reports in his Saheeh (Eng. transl. 4/ 1494/no.6996) from Umm Salamah, from the Prophet that he said: “A man will seek refuge in the House and an army detachment will be sent against him…” However if it is the case that someone is seeking refuge from the evil of an oppressor, then it is obligatory to shelter him and grant him refuge as far as is possible. But if he seeks refuge in order to help him to commit something forbidden, or to flee away from an obligation, then it is forbidden to shelter him.

Al-istighaathah -To seek rescue and deliverance from severe difficulty and destruction, and is of various types:

(i) Seeking deliverance and rescue from Allaah, the Mighty and Majestic, is one of the most excellent and most perfect deeds, and it was the continual practice of the messengers and their followers. The evidence for it is what the Shaykh, rahimahullaah, mentioned, “When you sought aid and deliverance of your Lord and He responded to you that He was sending you a thousand angels in succession to assist you.” [Soorah al-Anfaal. Aayah 9]

This occurred at the battle of Badr when the Prophet saw the polytheists numbering a thousand men, whist his companions were a few more than three hundred and ten. So he entered the palm grove calling earnestly upon his Lord, the Mighty and Majestic, raising up his hands and facing the qiblah, and saying: “O Allaah fulfil that which You have promised me. O Allaah if this small group who are the people of lslaam are destroyed you will not be worshipped upon the earth.” Then he continued calling upon his Lord earnestly, with his hands raised such that his cloak fell from his shoulders. So Aboo Bakr, radiyallaahu ‘anhu, took up his cloak and cast it back upon his shoulders and embraced him from behind and said: “O Prophet of Allaah, your earnest supplication to your Lord will be sufficient for you since he will fulfil what He has promised you,” so this Aayah was sent down. [Reported by Muslim (Eng. transl. 3/960/no.4360)]

(ii) Seeking rescue and deliverance, either from the dead or from those who are living but are not present and able to give aid and rescue, then this is shirk. This is so because it will not be done except by one who believes that those people have some unseen control over the creation, and they have therefore attributed to them a share of the Lordship that is for Allaah, the Most High, alone. Allaah, the Most High, says, “Or is that which you falsely worship along with Allaah better than He Who responds to the one in distress when he calls Him; who removes the harm; and who makes you to succeed those who came before you?! Is there anything that is worshipped besides Allaah that can do these things for you?! Little do you consider the greatness of Allaah and His favours upon you, and the clear proofs He has given you, so you therefore associate others in worship with Him.” [Soorah an-Naml (27):62]

(iii) Seeking aid and rescue from those who are alive, aware of the situation and capable of assistance and rescue. It is permissible to seek aid and rescue from them: Allaah, the Most High, says in the story of Moosaa: “So the man who was upon the same Religion as Moosaa sought the aid of Moosaa against his enemy the copt, so Moosaa struck him forcefully and killed him.” [Soorah al-Qasas. Aayah 15]

(iv) Seeking rescue and aid from a living person who is not capable of assisting him, without believing that he has some hidden power. For example that a drowning person calls for rescue from a person who is paralysed. This is futility and is a mockery of the one whom he seeks rescue from, and is therefore prohibited for this reason. A further reason for its prohibition is that anyone who saw him seeking rescue from the paralysed man may be deceived into thinking that the paralysed man must have some hidden power enabling him to rescue people.

Adh-dhabh- Sacrifice: The evidence is the ayah of the Qur’aan: “Say, O Muhammad, indeed my Prayer, my sacrifice, my living and my dying are all purely and solely for Allaah, Lord of all creation. There is no share of any of that for other than him.” [Soorah al-An’aam. 162-163]. Also the Prophet said: “Allaah has cursed anyone who sacrifices for other than Allaah” [Reported by Muslim (Eng. transl. 3/ 1093- 1094/no.4876)]

Sacrifice is to kill by spilling the blood of the animal in a particular manner, and is done for a number of reasons:

That it is done as an act of worship, such that he intends by it veneration of the one for whom he sacrifices, and intends it as an act of submission to him and a means of nearness to him. So this may not be done except for Allaah, the Most High, and has to be done in the manner which Allaah, the Most High, has prescribed. Directing it to other than Allaah is major shirk and the evidence (as mentioned by the author) is the Saying of Allaah, the Most High, “Say, O Muhammad, indeed my Prayer, my sacrifice, my living and my dying are all purely and solely for Allaah, Lord of all creation. There is no share of any of that for other than Him’ [Soorah al-An’aam (6):162-3]

(ii) That it is done out of hospitality for the guest, or for as wedding feast (waleemah) or the like, then this is something commanded, either as an obligation or a recommendation, as he said “Whoever truly believes in Allaah and the Last Day, then let him treat the guest honourably” [Reported by al-Bukhaaree (Eng. transl. 8/99/no. 156) and Muslim (Eng. transl. 3/935/no. 4286)]. He said to ‘Abdur-Rahmaan ibn ‘Auf, “Give a wedding, feast (waleemah) even if it is only with a single sheep” [Reported by al-Bukhaaree (Eng. transl. 7/72/no.96)]. (iii) That it is done to provide food charitably, or to sell the meat and so on, then this falls under that which is permissible and is in principle according to the Saying of Allaah, the Most High, “Do those mushriks who worship others along with Allaah not see that We have created for them, from what our Hands have created, cattle which they are in charge of, and We have made the cattle subservient to them: so from them are those which they eat the meat of.” [Soorah Yaa Seen. 71-72] Furthermore, it may be something desirable or prohibited depending upon what it leads to.

An-nadhr- Vows: The evidence is the ayah: “They fulfil their vows and they fear a day whose evil is widespread”. [Soorah al-Insaan. 76-:77]

The Aayah is a proof since Allaah praises them for fulfilling their vows, which shows that Allaah loves that and every action that is beloved to Allaah is worship. This is further supported by the Saying of Allaah, the Most High, “…they fear a day whose evil is widespread.” [Soorah al-Insaan. 7]
The fulfilling of vows which Allaah, the Most High, has praised are all acts of worship which Allaah, the Mighty and Majestic, has obligated. This is because when a person starts any of the obligatory acts of worship, then he has become duty bound to fulfil and complete them. The proof for this is the Saying of Allaah, the Most High, “Then let them complete the duties of their hajj, and fulfil their vows (e.g. the sacrifice), and let them perform the tawaaf of ifaadah around the ancient House.” [Soorah al-Hajj 29]

Vows by which a person makes a pledge and thus obligates himself to do something or other, or makes some act of obedience to Allaah, that is not obligatory, binding upon himself, then this is disliked, and some of the scholars declared it to be forbidden. This is because the Prophet forbade making vows and said, “It does not bring good, it merely causes the miserly person to spend” [Reported by al-Bukhaaree (Eng. transl. 8/448/no.684) and Muslim (Eng. transl. 3/871/no.4019)]. Yet even so, if a person does go ahead and vow that he will do some act of obedience to Allaah, then it becomes obligatory upon him to perform it as the Prophet said, “Whoever vows to act in obedience to Allaah, then let him obey Him” [Reported by al-Bukhaaree (Eng. transl. 8/449/no.687)].

So in summary vows (an-nadhr) applies to the obligatory acts of worship in general, and to making vows in specific, which is that a person obliges himself to do something for the sake of Allaah, the Mighty and Majestic. The scholars divide the vow into various categories and these are laid out in the books of fiqh (details of Islamic law and regulations). [End of quote- Source: Explanation of the Three fundamental principles. (Translated by Shaikh Abu Talhah Dawud Burbank (may Allaah have mercy upon him and his wife. Aameen)]

NB: Whoever directs the above acts of worship to others besides Allaah, then indeed he or she has committed major shirk [major polytheism] which expels a person from the fold of Islam but this is a general ruling. However, in order to declare a specific Muslim individual as one who has left the fold of Islaam due to him or her committing acts of major polytheism, this ruling cannot be given, except by a scholar. This is the greatest affair regarding which the Messenger opposed them [i.e. the idol worshippers], then he propagated sincerity [i.e. that all these acts of worship must be carried out for Allaah alone], informed them that this is the religion ordained by Allaah, that Allaah does not accept other than this from anyone and that the one who does what he deems to be good (i.e. carries out acts of worship by seeking the intercession of the righteous people through vows, invocation etc), then Allaah will forbid him from paradise and his final abode will be hellfire. This affair [i.e. sincerity – by directing all acts of worship to Allaah alone] is the religion in its entirety and due to it the people split into Muslims and disbelievers and enmity occured, and due to it Jihaad was legislated. Allaah [The Exalted] said: [وَقَـٰتِلُوهُمۡ حَتَّىٰ لَا تَكُونَ فِتۡنَةٌ۬ وَيَڪُونَ ٱلدِّينُ ڪُلُّهُ – And fight them until there is no more Fitnah (disbelief and polytheism: i.e. worshipping others besides Allah) and the religion (worship) will all be for Allah Alone]. [Surah Al-Anfaal. Aayah 39] [End of quote from Ghaayah Al-Amaanee Fee Radd Alan-Nabahaanee 1/19-20]

It is well known that the extremists (amongst the grave worshippers) have a fair share from the traits of their predecessors [i.e. the grave worshippers amongst the jews, the Christians and the idol worshippers] and it is something witnessed. [Ghaayah Al-Amaanee Fee Radd Alan Nabahaanee 1/19-20]

How Godless Arabs Changed Europe: [Brief Rebuttal Against Koert Debeuf – (Associate Researcher at The Institute For European Studies, Brussels University- An Admirer of Some Heretics Who Failed Whilst Attempting to Corrupt Islam]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Read: Understanding the Battle Between the Philosophers (Aristotle, Ibn Sina, al-Farabi) and the Mutakallimoon (Jahmiyyah, Mu’tazilah, Kullaabiyyah, Ash’ariyyah, Maturidiyyah) Initiated By Jahm bin Safwaan

http://www.asharis.com/creed/articles/ledrs-understanding-the-battle-between-the-philosophers-aristotle-ibn-sina-al-farabi-a.cfm

Debeuf stated: How Godless Arabs Changed Europe. “In the world of Islam, some philosophers went against religion. The secularist ideas that European scholars found in these thinkers’ writings shook both Muslim and Christian theologians”. [End of quote]

Brief Response

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

وَقُلۡ جَآءَ ٱلۡحَقُّ وَزَهَقَ ٱلۡبَـٰطِلُ‌ۚ إِنَّ ٱلۡبَـٰطِلَ كَانَ زَهُوقً۬ا

And say: ”Truth has come and falsehood has vanished. Surely! Falsehood is ever bound to vanish”. [Surah Al-Israa. Aayah 81]

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

وَلَا يَأۡتُونَكَ بِمَثَلٍ إِلَّا جِئۡنَـٰكَ بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَأَحۡسَنَ تَفۡسِيرًا

And no example or similitude do they bring (to oppose or to find fault in you or in this Qur’an), but We reveal to you the truth (against that similitude or example), and the better explanation thereof. [Surah Al-Furqan. Aayah 33]

Imaam Ahmad Bin Hanbal [rahimahullaah] said:

”All praise and thanks be to Allaah – Who, in every era and interval between the Prophets- raises a group from the people of Knowledge, who call the misguided to guidance, patiently bearing ill treatment and harm. With the Book of Allaah, they give life to the dead [i.e. hearts killed by misguidance etc] and through Allaah’s Light [i.e. guidance] they give sight [i.e. guidance] to the blind. How many a person killed by Iblees [i.e. misguided] have they revived! How many deviated people and wandering have they guided! How beautiful their effect has been on the people and how vile people have been towards them! They expel from the Book of Allaah the alterations of those going beyond bounds, the false claims of the liars and the false interpretations of the ignorant ones – those who uphold the banner of religious innovation and unleash trials and discord, differing about the Book [i.e. The Qur’aan], opposing the Book and agree upon opposing the Book. They speak about Allaah and His Book without knowledge, argue about what is ambiguous in the Book and deceive the ignorant masses with such ambiguities. We seek refuge in Allaah from the trials of the misguided ones”. [Ar-Radd ‘alal-Jahmiyyah. page 2]

Indeed, Debeuf’s above statement is nothing but an exaggeration and an exaltation of the enemies of the Prophets. The heretical philosophers did not shake the pious predecessors of the Ummah of Islaam, rather they were refuted and thus their evil was manifested to all those who desired guidance. All praise and thanks be to Allaah, there will always be scholars of Islaam who will refute every false creed, thought, idea or methodology – whether initiated by Muslims, non-Muslims or opostates.

Shaikh Shamsuddeen Al-Afghaanee may Allaah have mercy upon him] stated:

Allaah [The Most High] guided mankind though Muhammad [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] and though what he brought of clear manifest evidences and guidance-a guidance that could not be described by those who were proficient in giving descriptions and surpassed the knowledge of those with great perception. So, though this guidance that was given to the Messenger of Allaah [sallal-laahu-alayhi- wasallam], Allaah [The Most High] opened the eyes of the blind ones, the ears of the deaf ones and the hearts of the heedless ones. Allaah [The Most High] united them upon one religion-[the religion of Islamic monotheism; Ibraaheem’s [alayhis-salaam] religion of pure monotheism]-after they had been in complete disunity, enmity towards one another, upon destructive and corrupt creeds. Allaah united their hearts and they became true brothers in Islaam by way of this great blessing. And thereafter everything that was worshiped besides Allaah-such as graves, trees, stones, graven images, idols etc- ceased to exist and all worship was carried out for Allaah (alone).

The people followed the true Religion of Islamic monotheism; they worshipped Allaah alone and established worship sincerely for Allaah, except those whom Allaah willed that they were to remain as people of polytheism, hypocrisy and followers of the altered and distorted previous scriptures. The darkness of shirk was dispelled and the banner of Tawheed was raised in the lands-amongst the Arabs and non-Arabs.

Allaah [The Most High] took away the soul of His Messenger [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallaam], whilst Islaam was established and in authority-superseding all other ways of life and creeds. Then the rightly guided khulafaa of the Messenger continued upon this path until the two powerful and great nations at the time-Rome and Persia-ended up in humiliation, degradation and in a state of fear after they had been in a state of security, and thus Caesar was restricted and besieged, and khosrau was subdued and destroyed.

So when the enemies of Islaam saw that they were unable to do away with this religion, they implanted their disbelieving agents within Islam, who pretended to be Muslims in order to foment confusion, trials and tribulations; and in order to spread shirk by exaggerating the status of the pious people and exalting their graves with [beliefs and practices] that were not ordained by Allaah.

So, this Ummah was put to trial through the plots of the [atheist, heretic and hypocrite] Abdullaah Bin Saba, who claimed Uloohiyyah [i.e. the right to be worship] for Ali Ibn Abee Taalib [radiyallaahu- anhu]. Abdullaah Bin As-Sabah’s followers were known as the Saaba-iyyah, and later on they were known as the rawaafid (shiites), the ismaaliyyah (shittes), the nusayriyah (shiites) and other than them amongst the Baatiniyyah. They used to worship the graves and the dead, and they used to build places of worship and domed [shaped] shrines upon these graves. So, by way of this they revived the practices of the Yahood, the Nasaaraa and the idol worshippers, and thus the practices of the worshippers of graves in this Muslim Ummah manifested itself in actions that were carried out by the rawaafid (shiites).

Second, the books of Greek philosophy that contained the ideas of grave and idol worship were translated into Arabic, so many of those who attributed themselves to Islam busied themselves with these books, such as the likes of Al- Faraabee, Ibn Sinaa Al-Hanafi, Naseer At- Toosee the advocator of disbelief and shirk and other than them amongst those who played tricks with Islaam, just as Paul played tricks with Christianity.

They were influenced by the ideas of the Greek Philosophers, such as the creed of grave worship, so they became callers to grave worship through Greek Philosophy. The practices of these people was rife within the ranks of the people of rhetoric amongst the Hanafi Maatooreediyyah (d) and the Ash-ariyyah Kullaabiyyah due to busying themselves with the Books of the Philosophers; so they were influenced by the creed of grave worship. They became callers to grave worship and callers to the creed of the Jahmiyyah at the same time, such as the likes of Taftaazaanee Al-Hanafi [The Philosopher of the Maatooreediyyah and Grave worshipers] and Jurjaanee Al-Hanafi [a caller to superstition]

Al-Faraabee: Al-Faraabee said that Philosophy is more perfect than Prophet hood. Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah (rahimahullaah) said about him: ‘’Misguided; a disbeliever’’ Ibn Sinaa adopted his books and ideas of disbelief. [For further details concerning Al- Faraabee, See Majmoo Al-Fataawaa 2/67—86] [Dar At-Ta’aarud 1/10] [Ighaathatul Luhfaan 2/372-373].

Ibn Sinaa: Imaam Ibnu Salaah (rahimahullaah) said about him: ‘’He was a devil amongst the human devils.’’ [See Fataawaa Ibn Salaah 1/209] [Also see: ‘Ar-Radd Alal Mantaqiyyeen’ of Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah 278-279] [‘Ighaathatul Luhfaan’ of Imaam Ibnul Qayyim 2/373-380] [Bidaayah Wan-Nihaayah’ of Imaam Ibn Katheer 12/43]

Naasir At-Toosee: He was a magician and a minister of the Tartars. He rejected the ‘resurrection’. For further details, see: As-Sawaa-iq Al-Mursalah of Imaam Ibnul Qayyim (rahimahullaah) 2/790; 3/1077-1078

Followers of the Jahmi Abu Mansoor Al- Maatooreedi Al-Hanafi [For further details, see the Book of Shaikh Shamsud-deen al-Afghaanee titled: ‘Al-Maatooreediyyah’ 1/205—376] [d] Juhoodu Ulamaa Al-Hanafiyyah Fee Ibtaal Aqaa- id Al-Qubooriyyah Vol 1 pages 23-24

Third, a people appeared among the Muslims manifesting asceticism. These people were more dangerous to the masses and more severe in misguidance. They were a people who appeared in the garb of the righteous, with tearful eyes smeared with kohl, long flowing beards, elevated turbans, carrying rosary beads and pretending to be calling to the sunnah of the leader of Humankind [Muhammad], whilst secretly practicing the disgraceful acts inherited from the false and vanished religions. And from their plots was that they used to mix manifest lies with the authentic explanations of the Qur’aan and the authentic narrations in order to corrupt the clear proofs of the qur’aan and the sunnah. These deviant heretics were known as the holooliyyah, ittihaadiyyah Grave worshippers, such as the likes of al-hallaaj (309ah), ibnul faarid (632ah), ibn arabi (638ah), ibn sina (669ah) etc [Excerpt from Juhoodu Ulamaa Al-Hanafiyyah Fee Ibtaal Aqaa’id Al-Qubooriyyeen. Vol 1. Page 19-25]

Hulooliyyah and ittihaadiyyah]:

Hulool- Lit. “Entering” – Divine indwelling. The belief that Allaah dwells within a particular human. i.e. That Allaah dwells in a particular Soofi shaykh, a pious person, a Prophet – This belief is shared by Christians, certain Soofies, certain Shiites, Sikhs and others.

Wahdaatul Wujood – Lit – Unity of Existence. The belief that all existence is a single existence and everything we see are only aspects of the Essence of Allaah. This belief is also held by certain Soofies, Hindus and others.

Those who believe in hulool say that Allaah dwells and is incarnate in human beings, High is Allaah above and far removed from that. This was openly called to by some of the extreme Sufis, such as al-Husayn ibn Mansoor al-Hallaaj who was declared to be an unbeliever by the scholars. They ordered that he be executed and he was crucified in the year 309H. The following saying is attributed to him: “Glory to Him who manifested His human nature, Hiding the piercing brightness of His divinity: Till His creation saw Him openly, In the form of one eating and drinking” Attributed by al-Wakeel to the book at Tawaaseen of al Hallaaj (p. 130).

And his saying: “I am the one who loves and the One who is loved is me, We are two spirits who dwell in a single body. So when you see me you see Him, and when you see Him you see us both.”So al-Hallaaj was a believer in hulool and believed in the duality of the divine nature and that the Deity had both a divine and a human nature. Thus the divine becomes incarnate within the human so that the human spirit is the divine nature of the Deity and the body is its human form. Despite the fact that he was killed for his evil apostasy and although some of the Sufis declare themselves free of him, yet others count him as a Sufi, hold that his beliefs were correct, and write down his words. From them is Abdul-‘Abbaas ibn ‘Ataa al-Baghdaadee, Muhammad ibn Khaleef ash? Sheeraazee and Ibraheem an-Nasraabaadhee, as is reported by al-Khateeb al-Baghdaadee.

Wahdatul-Wujood, i.e. that all in existence is a single reality, and that everything we see is only aspects of the Essence of Allaah. The chief claimant of this belief was Ibn ‘Arabee al-Haatimee at-Taa’ee, who was buried in Damascus having died in the year 638H. He himself says about this belief in his book al-Fatoohaat-ul-Makkiyyah: “The slave is the Lord and the Lord is a slave, I wish that I knew which was the one required to carry out the required duties. If I were to say the servant then that is true, or if I were to say the Lord, then how can that be required for Him.” Al-Fatoohaat-ul-Makkiyyah as it is attributed by Dr. Taqiyyuddeen al-Hilaalee in his book al-Hadiyyatul-Haadiyah (p.43).

He also says in al-Fatoohaat: “Those who worshipped the calf worshipped nothing except Allaah.” Quoted as Ibn ‘Arabee’s saying by Ibn Tayrniyyah in al-Fataawaa (vol.11), who attributes it to the book al-Fatoohaat. Ibn ‘Arabee is called ‘al-‘Aarif billaah’ (The one having great knowledge of Allaah) by the Sufis, and also ‘al-Qutubul Akbar’ (The great pivot), ‘al-Miskul-Adhfar’ (the sweetest smelling musk), “al-Kibreetul-Ahmar’ (the reddest brimstone), despite his belief in wahdatul-wujood and other calamitous sayings. Indeed he praised Fir’awn (Pharaoh) and declared that he died upon eemaan! Furthermore he speaks against Haroon for his criticism of his peoples worship of the calf, thus directly opposing the text of the Qur’aan. He also held that the Christians were Unbelievers only because they made divinity particular to ‘Eesaa, whereas if they had made it general to all then they would not have been unbelievers. [Despite all the gross deviation of Ibn ‘Arabee and the fact that the scholars declared him to be an Unbeliever, yet he is revered by the Sufis and others who do not distinguish between the truth and falsehood, and those who turn away from accepting the truth even when it is as clear as the sun. But his books, which are filled with clear apostasy, such as al-Fatoohaatul-Makkiyyah and Fusoosul-Hikam are still circulated. He even has a tafseer, which he called at-Tafseerul-Baatin since he holds that there is an apparent and a hidden meaning for every Aayah, so the outer meaning is for the people of Ta’weel. From this group came Ibn Basheesh who said: “O Allaah rescue me from the mire of Tawheed, and drown me in the centre of the sea of unity, and mix me into the state of unity and oneness until I do not see, nor hear, nor sense except through it.” http://www.salafitalk.net/st/viewmessages.cfm?Forum=8&Topic=3528

Ibn Rushd Was a Follower of Aristotle – The Misguided One

Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah [rahimahullaah] said: He [i.e. Ibn Rushd] responded to al-Ghazaali, but a response in which he made many mistakes and what is correct was with al-Ghazaali. He attributed some of his arguments to Ibn Sina and not to his predecessor (Aristotle), and the mistake in it he attributed to Ibn Sina. And in some of his arguments he spoke ill against al-Ghazaali and accused him of having little fairness because he [Ibn Rushd] based his views on corrupt rhetoric. [Minhaaj as-Sunnah 1/255]

Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah [rahimahullaah] said, “He [i.e. Ibn Rushd] was one who followed the statements of Aristotle the most”. [Bayaan Talbees Al-Jahmiyyah 1/120] Read here about the deviant Aristotle: http://www.asharis.com/creed/articles/lxtuo-ibn-taymiyyah-compared-with-the-philosophers-exposing-abu-adam-al-naruijis-acade.cfm

Al-Allaamah Muhammad Amaan Al-Jaami [rahimahullaah] said: That which no two people would differ about is that Ibn Rushd is a big and dangerous philosopher. [Al-Aql Wan-Naql Inda Ibn Rushd. Page 16]. So, read on this link to see one of Ibn Rushd’s blunders as a result of his philosophy – a quote by Shaikh Abu Iyaadh [hafidhahullaah] from Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah’s [rahimahullaah]: http://www.aboutatheism.net/articles/upniedg-the-universe-was-not-created-from-nothing-but-from-previously-existing-matter.cfm

The Ruler Saved The Muslims From Ibn Rushd’s Misguidnce

Shaikh Ash-Shuyookh Ibn Hamawiyyah [rahimahullaah] said: When I entered the city, I enquired about Ibn Rushd and it was said that the Khaleefah Ya’qoob did not allow him to leave his house nor was anyone allowed to go to him, because of the many bizarre statements that were transmitted from him and the rejected sciences that were attributed to him. He died in Maraakesh whilst confined in his house. [Siyah A‘laam An-Nubala 21/310]

Verdicts and Statements of The Pious Predecessors Against The Theological Rhetoric and Its Proponents

A man asked Qaasim Bin As-Sallaam [may Allaah have mercy upon him] about Theological Rhetoric, so he said to him, “Indeed, your Lord has guided to the path of uprightness and to the path of truth. Allaah [The Exalted] said:

فَإِن تَنَـٰزَعۡتُمۡ فِى شَىۡءٍ۬ فَرُدُّوهُ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ وَٱلرَّسُولِ إِن كُنتُمۡ تُؤۡمِنُونَ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلۡيَوۡمِ ٱلۡأَخِرِ‌ۚ ذَٲلِكَ خَيۡرٌ۬ وَأَحۡسَنُ تَأۡوِيلاً

(And) if you differ in anything amongst yourselves, refer it to Allah and His Messenger, if you believe in Allah and in the Last Day. That is better and more suitable for final determination. [Surah An-Nisaa. Aayah 59]

Do you not have what suffices in what your Lord guided you to regarding His speech and the Sunnah of His Prophet, so that you do not return to your opinion and thus become destroyed! Indeed, your Lord has forbidden you from speaking about His Essence and Attributes, except that which He has made know to you. (1)

Imaam Ash-Shaafi’ee [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, Theological Rhetoric is ignorance”. Imaam Abu Yusuf [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “Theological Rhetoric is ignorance and to be ignorant of Theological Rhetoric is knowledge”. (2)

Imaam Ahmad [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “I am neither a person of Theological Rhetoric nor do I recognize Theological Rhetoric in anything. (I only recognize) that which is found in the Book of Allaah or in the Sunnah of His Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him]”. (3)

Imaam Ahmad [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “Do not sit with the proponents of ilmul kalaam even if they defend the Sunnah”. (4)

Yoonus Ibn Abdil A’laa [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “I heard Ash-Shaafi’ee [may Allaah have mercy upon him] saying, ‘It is better for a man to be put to trial with everything that Allaah has forbidden except Shirk than looking into (or engaging himself in) Theological Rhetoric, for indeed I have come across affairs from the proponents of Theological Rhetoric that which I never thought I would come across’”. (5)

Contemporary Scholars

Question to Al-Allaamah Rabee Bin Haadee Al-Madkhalee [may Allaah preserve him]: May Allaah reward you with good. This is also a question from the brothers who are present, saying: Assalaamu Alaykum Warahmatullaahi wabarakaatuhu. Virtuous Shaikh, is it permissible for me to learn (or study) the knowledge of Theological Rhetoric? Benefit me (i.e. with a response) and may Allaah [The Exalted] reward you with good.

Answer: The knowledge of Theological Rhetoric is a corrupt knowledge and the pious predecessors – by way of consensus- declared that it is Haraam [forbidden] to study it due to the misguidance and disgustingly evil consequences within it. Shaikhul Islam Ibn Taymiyyah [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “Neither does a dull-witted person benefit from it nor is an intelligent person in need of it”. An intelligent person is not in need of it because he is sensible in his self, natural disposition and intellect; and a dull-witted person does not benefit from it. Even if he studied all the books of philosophical logic, he will not benefit from it. Shaikh Albaani [rahimahullaah] used to debate against the scholars of philosophical logic and they used to be like children in his presence, yet he never studied philosophical logic; rather Allaah granted him [sound] speech and [Sharee’ah] knowledge, and there is no proof stronger than the proofs of the Kitaab [i.e. the Qur’aan] and the [authentic] Sunnah. The proponents of Theological Rhetoric are always defeated [or overwhelmed]. By Allaah, regardless how much they (utilise) philosophical speech and how strong they are in philosophical logic, they are defeated (or overwhelmed) in the presence of the methodology of the pious predecessors (which is) founded on the Book (i.e. the Qur’aan) and the (authentic) Sunnah. (6)

Two Main Evil Outcomes of Theological Rhetoric And Soofiyyah- By Shaikh Rabee Bin Haadee

Al-Allaamah Rabee Bin Haadee Al-Madkhalee [may Allaah preserve him] also said: The final affair of Ahlul Kalaam [the proponents of theological rhetoric] are a state of doubt and confusion, and the final affair of Ahlut Tasawwuf [the people of the Sofee paths] are a state of wild irrational behaviour and false claims. Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah [rahimahullaah] said, “And because of this, the innovators of Ahlul Kalaam [proponents of theological rhetoric] have something of resemblance to the Yahood and the innovators in acts of worship have something of resemblance to the Nasaaraa. The final affair of ahlul kalam are a state of doubt and confusion and the final affair of the innovators in acts of worship are a state of wild irrational behaviour and false claims. That is because these ones [i.e. ahlul kalaam] deny the truth and thus it leads them to doubt and those ones [i.e. innovators in acts of worship] believe in falsehood and it leads them to a state of wild irrational behaviour. These ones [i.e. ahlul kalam] are like the darkness in a vast deep sea, overwhelmed with a great wave topped by a great wave, topped by dark clouds, darkness, one above another; and those ones [i.e. innovators in acts of worship] are like a mirage in a desert, the thirsty one thinks it to be water, until he comes up to it and finds it to be nothing”. Believer’s Bahaviour Towards Muslim Rulers – [Supplicates For Them….]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

The Manner In Which The Rulers Are to Be Advised

Iyaadh Ibn Ghanam [may Allaah be pleased with him] said that Allaah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him], said, ”Whoever wants to advise the one in authority, then he should not do so openly; rather he should take him by the hand and advise him in private. If he accepts the advice, then that is good. If he does not accept it, then he has fulfilled his obligation. [Ref 1]

Supplication For The Rulers

[Ref 2]

If Allaah does not rectify them, then that would be more evil for you, so supplicate for them to be guided and become righteous, and Allaah is able to do everything'”. [Ref 3]

And beware of supplicating against them to be cursed and they increase in evil, so calamity increases on the Muslims; rather supplicate for them to be granted the ability to repent so that they abandon evil and calamity is removed from the believers'”. [Ref 4]

[Ref 5]

[Ref 6]

[Ref 7]

No Rebellion

Awf Bin Maalik [may Allaah be pleased with him] said, ”Allaah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said, ‘The best of your rulers are those whom you love and they love you, who supplicate for you and you supplicate for them. The worst of your rulers are those whom you hate and they hate you, whom you curse and they curse you’. It was said, ‘Shall we confront them with swords?’ He said, ‘No, as long as they establish prayer among you. If you find something hateful from them, you should hate their actions but not withold your hand from obedience”’. [Ref 8]

Umm Salamah [may Allaah be pleased with her] said that Allaah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said, ”There will be rulers from whom you will see both goodness and corruption. One who recognizes their evil and hates it will maintain his innocence, but one who is pleased with it and follows them will be sinful. It was said, ‘Shall we not fight them?’ He said, ”No, as long as they pray”’. [Ref 9]

The Evil of Protests

Question to Al-Allaamah Rabee Bin Haadi [hafidhahullaah]: Going out to demonstrations, [initiating] revolutions and nurturing the youth upon it; is this from the methodology of Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jamaa’ah or not, whether [carried] out within or outside the Muslim countries? Answer: This is the methodology of Marx (i.e. Carl Marx), Lenin (i.e. Vladimir Lenin) and those similar to them. It is not from the Islamic methodology. Revolutions, bloodshed, trials and troubles are Marx’s and Lenin’s school of thought. [Ref 10]

Al-Allaamah Zayd Bin Haadi Al-Madkhali [rahimahullaah] said: Protests [or demonstrations] are newly invented matters in the religion. Every newly invented matter in the religion is a bidah; every bidah is misguidance and every misguidance is in the hell fire [i.e. is a path leading to the hell fire]. Allaah’s legislation is perfect and complete-based on The Book and The Sunnah-and we do not know of anything by way of the evidences in the Book and the Sunnah that makes it permissible for a handful of people to gather for demonstrations, which causes disturbance for the people and time wasting. And greater than this [disturbance and time wasting] is abandonment of the prayers [during protests] and the loss of life [i.e. murder]. If one was to kill a Muslim in a single protest, the one [or those] who called to such protests will carry his sins-be it an individual, a group or those who participate. It has been reported in an authentic hadeeth: The termination of the world means less to Allah than the killing of a Muslim [i.e. without right].[a] These protests are nothing but bidah and acts of misguidance advocated by shaytaan; [enticed] by the urge of the evil soul and desires. And these enemies [i.e. shaytaan, the urge of the evil soul and desires] do not come together in any affair except that the religion and worldly affairs are destroyed, just as it is the case in these demonstrations [or protests].

The end result of protests [or demonstrations]: Carnage, destruction, wastage of wealth and time and terrorising those living in peace. And how many disadvantages are there in [that]! It is enough to be considered something sinister due to the fact that the Noble Messengers and the Great Prophets who were put to trial and harmed by their people did not hold protests [or demonstrations]. Neither did they engage in plotting to cause explosions nor committing suicide; rather Islaam has forbidden all of that.

Those who call to protests [or demonstrations] and hold that there is success in it, they are mistaken and they have missed the correct path. Rectification of the affairs can only be by way of the Book and The Sunnah in accordance with the understanding of those scholars who are firmly grounded in knowledge. So whoever calls the people to this chaos, then indeed he has brought about a means to corrupting the land and the slaves, and what has occurred – in the past and at present- is a witness to that.

Therefore, we warn the students of knowledge that they are not persuaded by the speech of those who allow protests [or demonstrations]. They say that peaceful demonstrations are permissible-as they categorise it into this categorisation- without proofs and concrete evidence from the Book and the Sunnah- neither from the actions of the Messenger and the Noble Sahaabah nor from the Notable Imaams; rather the verdict on protests [or demonstrations] is only what has been stated earlier and as well as what has been written by other than myself [i.e. protests (or demonstrations) are not permissible] [Ref 11]

The Importance of Safety And Security In a Country

Security is a great blessing without which a person is not able to live a productive, fruitful and happy life. And due to this, Allaah bestowed [His Blessings] upon Makkah by making it and the Masjid Al-Haraam a safe and sacred place. Allaah [The Most High] said:

And [remember] when We made the House (the Ka’bah at Makkah) a place of resort for mankind and a place of safety. And take you (people) the Maqam (place) of Ibrahim (Abraham) [or the stone on which Ibrahim (Abraham) stood while he was building the Ka’bah] as a place of prayer (for some of your prayers, e.g. two Rak’at after the Tawaf of the Ka’bah at Makkah), and We commanded Ibrahim (Abraham) and Isma’il (Ishmael) that they should purify My House (the Ka’bah at Makkah) for those who are circumambulating it, or staying (I’tikaf), or bowing or prostrating themselves (there, in prayer). [2:125]

Allaah [The Most High] said: [ فِيهِ آيَاتٌ بَيِّنَاتٌ مَّقَامُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ۖ وَمَن دَخَلَهُ كَانَ آمِنًا ۗ وَلِلَّهِ عَلَى النَّاسِ حِجُّ الْبَيْتِ مَنِ اسْتَطَاعَ إِلَيْهِ سَبِيلًا ۚ وَمَن كَفَرَ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ غَنِيٌّ عَنِ الْعَالَمِينَ – In it are manifest signs (for example), the Maqam (place) of Ibrahim (Abraham); whosoever enters it, he attains security. And Hajj(pilgrimage to Makkah) to the House (Ka’bah) is a duty that mankind owes to Allah, those who can afford the expenses (for one’s conveyance, provision and residence); and whoever disbelieves [i.e. denies Hajj (pilgrimage to Makkah), then he is a disbeliever of Allah], then Allah stands not in need of any of the ‘Alamin (mankind and jinns)]. [3:97]

Allaah [The Most High] said:

And they say: “If we follow the guidance with you, we would be snatched away from our land.” Have We not established for them a secure sanctuary (Makkah), to which are brought fruits of all kinds, a provision from Ourselves, but most of them know not. [28:57]

Allaah [The Most High] said: [ أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا أَنَّا جَعَلْنَا حَرَمًا آمِنًا وَيُتَخَطَّفُ النَّاسُ مِنْ حَوْلِهِمْ ۚ أَفَبِالْبَاطِلِ يُؤْمِنُونَ وَبِنِعْمَةِ اللَّهِ يَكْفُرُونَ – Have they not seen that We have made (Makkah) a sanctuary secure, and that men are being snatched away from all around them? Then do they believe in Batil (falsehood – polytheism, idols and all deities other than Allah), and deny (become ingrate for) the Graces of Allah?] [29:67]

Allaah [ The Most High] said:

لِإِيلَافِ قُرَيْشٍ

إِيلَافِهِمْ رِحْلَةَ الشِّتَاءِ وَالصَّيْفِ

فَلْيَعْبُدُوا رَبَّ هَٰذَا الْبَيْتِ

الَّذِي أَطْعَمَهُم مِّن جُوعٍ وَآمَنَهُم مِّنْ خَوْفٍ

(It is a great Grace and Protection from Allah), for the taming of the Quraish; (And with all those Allah’s Grace and Protections for their taming, We cause) the (Quraish) caravans to set forth safe in winter (to the south), and in summer (to the north without any fear). So let them worship (Allah) the Lord of this House (the Ka’bah in Makkah). (He) Who has fed them against hunger, and has made them safe from fear. [106:1-4]

Whoever has physical well-being and security in the lands, then [indeed] he has obtained all the [beneficial] worldly endowments. Salamah Bin Ubaidullaah Ibn Mihsan Al-Khatmiy narrated from his father that the Messenger [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] said: “Whoever among you wakes up [in the morning] safe in his property, healthy in his body and has his daily nourishment, it is as if he has been granted the entire world”. [Reported by Tirmidhee in Kitaab Az-Zuhud; Chapter: At-Tawakkul Alal-laah, Hadeeth Number 3346 and declared Hasan by Imaam Albaani in As-Saheehah, number 2318]

When our upright leader Ibraaheem [alayhis salaatu wassalaam] settled some of his offspring at this valley [i.e. Makkah], the first of his supplications was that which Allaah stated: [وَإِذْ قَالَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ رَبِّ اجْعَلْ هَٰذَا بَلَدًا آمِنًا وَارْزُقْ أَهْلَهُ مِنَ الثَّمَرَاتِ مَنْ آمَنَ مِنْهُم بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ ۖ قَالَ وَمَن كَفَرَ فَأُمَتِّعُهُ قَلِيلًا ثُمَّ أَضْطَرُّهُ إِلَىٰ عَذَابِ النَّارِ ۖ وَبِئْسَ الْمَصِيرُ – And (remember) when Ibrahim (Abraham) said, “My Lord, make this city (Makkah) a place of security and provide its people with fruits, such of them as believe in Allah and the Last Day.” He (Allah) answered: “As for him who disbelieves, I shall leave him in contentment for a while, then I shall compel him to the torment of the Fire, and worst indeed is that destination!].[2:126]

Prophet Ibraaheem [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] supplicated to his Lord that this valley [i.e. Makkah] should be a land of safety. Then after this valley became a land that yields – and he had [already] asked Allaah to make it safe- [Allaah said that Ibraaheem] said: [وَإِذْ قَالَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ رَبِّ اجْعَلْ هَٰذَا الْبَلَدَ آمِنًا وَاجْنُبْنِي وَبَنِيَّ أَن نَّعْبُدَ الْأَصْنَامَ – And (remember) when Ibrahim (Abraham) said: “O my Lord! Make this city (Makkah) one of peace and security, and keep me and my sons away from worshipping idols]. [14:35]

This emphasizes [the fact] that safety is an important affair needed by a person, otherwise Prophet Ibraaheem [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] would not have been eager to repeat his request to Allaah to make it a reality in this land. Look at the lands where a system that [guarantees] safety has been lost; you will find that the people are unable to pursue [affairs] of their daily lives- their schools and markets are shut and everyone stays in the houses. Those among them who have the ability would hasten to leave this land to go somewhere else; and if you ask one of them, you will find him saying that he is unable to live with his people and family in that place in which safety has been lost.

Security cannot be [established] properly except by way of two affairs: Implementation of Allaah’s Laws and obedience to the rulers. Indeed, the Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] clarified this (affair) which is needed by a Muslim in his life. Irbaad Saariyah [may Allaah be pleased with him] said, “Allaah’s Messenger  [peace abd blessings of Allaah be upon him] gave us an admonition after the morning prayer –an admonition that made our hearts fearful and our eyes tearful. So, a man said, ‘Indeed, is this a farewell sermon, so what do you advise us?’ He said, ‘I enjoin you to fear Allah and that you listen and obey, even if an Abyssinian slave [is made a ruler over you]; for indeed he among you who lives long enough will see many differences. So, beware of newly invented matters [in the religion] because indeed it is misguidance. And whoever among you witnesses that, then it is obligated on him to adhere to my Sunnah and the Sunnah of the rightly guided Caliphs [i.e. AbuBakr, Umar, Uthmaan and Ali], adhere to it with your molar teeth’”. [Reported by Ahmad 3/126]

Indeed, this hadeeth establishes the foundations of security in Islaam and they are: Firstly: Taqwallaah [Fear of Allaah (The Most High)] based on its complete and comprehensive meaning. Secondly: Obedience to the rulers [in what is good]. Fear of Allaah rectifies a Muslim’s relationship with Allaah, his neighbours and everything around him; and in the absence of Allaah’s Sharee’ah, destruction and depravity will occur. Indeed, Allaah [The Mighty and Majestic] warned the one who abandons His Sharee’ah and is disobedient to His Messenger. [Allaah said]:

And Allah puts forward the example of a township (Makkah), that dwelt secure and well content; its provision coming to it in abundance from every place, but it (its people) denied the Favours of Allah (with ungratefulness). So Allah made it taste the extreme of hunger (famine) and fear, because of that (evil, i.e. denying Prophet Muhammad) which they (its people) used to do. [16:112]

By listening to the rulers and obeying them [in good], all the affairs of the person’s life in his society will be a state of normality. Listening to the rulers and obeying them [in good] is included in the subject matter of Taqwa [fear of Allaah]. Al-Hasan Al-Basri [rahimahullaah] used to say, “Indeed, Al-Hajjaaj is the punishment of Allaah; so do not repel the punishment of Allaah with your own hands. Rather you must submit and show humility because Allaah] The Most High] said: [وَلَقَدْ أَخَذْنَاهُم بِالْعَذَابِ فَمَا اسْتَكَانُوا لِرَبِّهِمْ وَمَا يَتَضَرَّعُونَ – And Indeed We seized them with punishment, but they humbled not themselves to their Lord, nor did they invoke (Allaah) with submission to Him]”. [23:76]

Talq Bin Habeeb (rahimahullaah) used to say: Guard against fitna through Taqwa; so, it was said to him, “Summarize (the meaning) of Taqwa for us.’’ He said, ‘’It is act in obedience to Allah, with a light from Allah (i.e. Eemaan) and hoping for Allaah’s Mercy. And that you abandon disobedience to Allah with a light from Allah and fearing the punishment of Allah. [Reported by Ibn Abee Shaybah 11/33 and Ibnul Mubaarak in Az-Zuhd 473]

So, you find a person who knows what security is and his understanding regarding it increases due to fear of Allaah, and he is eager to obey the rulers [in good]; but when he falls short [in Taqwa], his perception of security becomes deficient. When Taqwa is actualised, he will receive the promise Allaah has mentioned [in Surah An-Noor]. Allaah said:

Allah has promised those among you who believe, and do righteous good deeds, that He will certainly grant them succession to (the present rulers) in the earth, as He granted it to those before them, and that He will grant them the authority to practice their religion, that which He has chosen for them (i.e. Islam). And He will surely give them in exchange a safe security after their fear (provided) they (believers) worship Me and do not associate anything (in worship) with Me. But whoever disbelieved after this, they are the Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient to Allah). [24:55]

Indeed, it is known that the religion cannot [be established] without a main body of Muslims and there cannot be a main body of Muslims without a leader, and there cannot be a leader except through listening to him and obeying [him in what is good]. An absence of obedience to the ruler and putting oneself before him is one of the greatest causes of corrupting the land and the people, and turning away from the path of guidance and uprightness. Al Hasan Al Basri [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said: By Allaah! The religion cannot be established except by way of rulers even if they commit tyranny and oppression- due to the many affairs that Allaah rectifies through them more than what they corrupt.’’ http://www.abukhadeejah.com/the-tyranny-of-the-rulers-a-reason-for-rebellion/

Ibn Rajab [rahimahullaah] said: ‘’There is [good and great advantage] in the worldly life when rulers are obeyed. And by way of it [i.e. obedience to the rulers], the beneficial affairs related to the livelihood of the people are established and they utilise them as an aid through which they manifest their religion and obey their Lord.’’ http://www.abukhadeejah.com/the-tyranny-of-the-rulers-a-reason-for-rebellion/

Disobedience to the rulers and putting oneself before them through fighting or other than that [is tantamount] to disobeying Allaah and His Messenger, and an opposition to that which Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jamaa’ah were upon – the pious predecessors. Preservation of security [in the land] leads to brotherhood and mutual alliance between the Muslims. Allaah [The Mighty and Majestic] said: [إِنَّمَا الْمُؤْمِنُونَ إِخْوَةٌ فَأَصْلِحُوا بَيْنَ أَخَوَيْكُمْ ۚ وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُرْحَمُونَ – The believers are nothing else than brothers (in Islamic religion). So, make reconciliation between your brothers, and fear Allah, that you may receive mercy]. [49:10]

Allaah [The Most High] said:

The believers, men and women, are Auliya’ (helpers, supporters, friends, protectors) of one another, they enjoin (on the people) Al-Ma’ruf, and forbid (people) from Al-Munkar; they perform As-Salat and give the Zakat, and obey Allah and His Messenger. Allah will have His Mercy on them. Surely Allah is All-Mighty, All-Wise. [9:71]

Eemaan is neither wishful thinking nor mere claims, rather it is what settles in the heart and actions testify to it. A person cannot be a true believer until he loves for his Muslim brother what he loves for himself and until he deals with the people in a manner he loves to be dealt with! It is well known that security is something sought after by everyone; therefore it is the responsibility of a Muslim that he is eager for the security of others in order that he can receive security and safety for himself.

[Also, preserving security in the land] necessitates the fulfilment of trusts, whereas bringing about a state of insecurity is tantamount to treachery. Allaah [The Most High] said:

O you who believe! Betray not Allah and His Messenger, nor betray knowingly your Amaanaat (things entrusted to you, and all the duties which Allah has ordained for you). And know that your possessions and your children are but a trial and that surely with Allah is a mighty reward. O you who believe! If you obey and fear Allah, He will grant you Furqan a criterion [(to judge between right and wrong), or (Makhraj, i.e. making a way for you to get out from every difficulty)], and will expiate for you your sins, and forgive you, and Allah is the Owner of the Great Bounty. Whether Lock down or Not,  There’ll Be No Silence – By The Tawfeeq of Allaah – Regarding Ahlul Bidah: [Reminder to Mu’mayyi’ah – Those Who Complain When Ahlul Bidah Are Mentioned On The Minbar]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah [rahimahullaah] stated, “The Imaams of Ahlus Sunnah Wal-Jamaaa’ah – the people of knowledge and Eemaan- are possessors of Knowledge, Justice and Mercy. They know the truth in a manner in which it is [obligated upon] them- in agreement with the Sunnah and free from innovations. They deal justly with those who are outside of it [i.e. those outside the truth and the Sunnah] even if they oppress them, as Allaah [The Most High] said: [وَلَا يَجْرِمَنَّكُمْ شَنَآنُ قَوْمٍ عَلَىٰ أَلَّا تَعْدِلُوا ۚ اعْدِلُوا هُوَ أَقْرَبُ لِلتَّقْوَىٰ  -And let not the enmity and hatred of others make you avoid justice. Be just: that is nearer to piety (5:8)] They are merciful towards the creation, wish good for them, guidance and knowledge. They do not set out wishing evil for them; rather when they [i.e. those Imaams of the Sunnah] punish them, clarify their mistakes, ignorant [views, statements and beliefs] and wrong doing, their intention is to clarify the truth, having mercy for the creation, enjoining good and forbidding evil, in order that the entire religion is established sincerely [for the worship of Allaah alone and adherence to the Sunnah of His Messenger], and so that the word of Allaah is made the uppermost.

Shaikh Rabee Bin Haadi Al-Madkhali hafidhahullaah] said:

Ibnul Jawzi said, Abul Wafaa Ibn Aqeel Al-Faqee said, our Shaikh Abul Fadl Al-Hamdaani said, “The innovators (in) Islam and the fabricators of Hadeeth are worse than the Mulhiddoon [i.e. the heretics (Ref A)], because the heretics aim to corrupt Islam from the outside, whilst these [people] want to corrupt it from within. They [i.e. the innovators and the fabricators of hadeeth] are similar to the people of a country who try to corrupt its state of affairs and the heretics are similar to those who lay a siege from the outside; so the ones from within [i.e. the innovators and fabricators of hadeeth] open the fortress. Therefore, they are more harmful to Islam than those who do not [attribute] themselves to it outwardly”.[Ref 1]

Imaam Ahmad [rahimahullaah] said, “There is none more harmful on the people of Islaam than the Jahmiyyah; they do not desire except to nullify the Qur’aan and the ahaadeeth of the Messenger [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam]”. [Ref 2]

Al-Haafifh Abdul Ghaniyy Al-Maqdisee [rahimahullaah] said, “Know-may Allaah have mercy upon you-that Islaam and its people are undermined by three groups; and the group that rejects the [authentic] ahaadeeth about the Attributes [of Allaah] and belie its narrators are more harmful to Islaam and its people than the disbelievers”.  [Ref 3]

Ibn Aqeel [rahimahullaah] said, “There is none more harmful on the sharee’ah than the innovators of the people of kalaam [i.e. the people of philosophical rhetoric] and the ignorant soofees”. [Ref 4]

Following a Religion other than Islaam – Shaykh Saaleh Al-Fawzaan

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Shaikh Saaleh al Fawzaan حفظه الله comments regarding the statement of Allaah [The Most High]:

“وَمَن يَبۡتَغِ غَيۡرَ ٱلۡإِسۡلَٰمِ دِينٗا فَلَن يُقۡبَلَ مِنۡهُ وَهُوَ فِي ٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ مِنَ ٱلۡخَٰسِرِينَ”

“And whoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it will never be accepted of him, and in the Hereafter he will be one of the losers.”  Surah Aal-E-Imran, Ayah 85

First Benefit:

The definition of Islaam, which is to submit to Allah with Tawhid (singling out Allaah with all worship), obeying him and freeing oneself from shirk (worshipping other than him) and its people. This is Islaam.

Second Benefit:

It is false to adhere to all other religions, except Islaam- the religion which Allaah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] brought; meaning, those religions are false after they have been abrogated, for indeed it is not allowed to act upon what has been abrogated because this is acting upon a divine legislation whose time has elapsed, so whoever remains upon it is following a religion other than the religion ordained by Allaah.

Third Benefit:

It is obligated on the people of the scripture to follow Muhammad (ﷺ) because his religion is Islaam. As for following other than Muhammad (ﷺ) then this is not considered to be Islaam because it has been abrogated and its time has elapsed, and all the people of the earth are now commanded to follow Muhammad (ﷺ).

Fourth Benefit:

Whoever dies whilst following a religion other than Islaam, then he will be from the people of the hell fire, because Allah (The Most High) said:

“فَلَن يُقۡبَلَ مِنۡهُ وَهُوَ فِي ٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ مِنَ ٱلۡخَٰسِرِينَ…”

“….it will never be accepted of him, and in the Hereafter he will be one of the losers”

and Allah (The Most High) said:

” إِنَّهُۥ مَن يُشۡرِكۡ بِٱللَّهِ فَقَدۡ حَرَّمَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيۡهِ ٱلۡجَنَّةَ وَمَأۡوَىٰهُ ٱلنَّارُۖ وَمَا لِلظَّٰلِمِينَ مِنۡ أَنصَار…”

“Verily, whosoever sets up partners in worship with Allah, then Allah has forbidden Paradise for him, and the Fire will be his abode. And for the Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers) there are no helpers.” Surah Al-Ma’idah, Ayah 72

ِand He (The Most High) said regarding the Hell Fire:  “أُعِدَّتۡ لِلۡكَٰفِرِينَ..”  “prepared for the disbelievers.” Surah Al-Baqarah, Ayah 24

Fifth Benefit:

This verse is a refutation against all innovations and newly invented matters in the religion, because they do not belong to the religion of Islaam, even if the person claims that he is seeking Allaah’s Pleasure and Reward by way of it and that he is upon obedience and desires good, but rather his worship through acts of innovation and newly invented matters in the religion will make him from amongst the losers [of those deeds] in the hereafter, because he is following a religion other than Islaam [in relation to those innovated acts of worship].

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “‏ “‏من عمل عملا ليس عليه أمرنا فهو رد

“Whoever performs an action contrary to our way (i.e., Islam) will have it rejected. [MUSLIM]

and He (ﷺ) said: “وَإِيَّاكُمْ وَمُحْدَثَاتِ الْأُمُورِ؛ فَإِنَّ كُلَّ بِدْعَةٍ ضَلَالَةٌ…”

Beware of newly invented matters [in the religion], for verily every newly invented matter in the religion is an innovation in religion, and every innovation in the religion is misguidance.” [Reported by Abu Dawud]

The people of bidah are different from each other with regards to how distant they are from the religion and exiting its legislation, because amongst them are those who completely exit the religion if their bidah is tantamount to major disbelief, such as the bidah of worshipping graves and tombs, sacrificing to other than Allah and vowing to other than Allah, for indeed these are religious innovations that are tantamount to major disbelief and it exits a person from Islaam, because it is ascribing partners to Allaah in worship. (Ref 1)

And if the bidah does not necessitate apostasy, then it is still an act of misguidance,  as he (ﷺ) said: “Verily every newly invented matter in the religion is an innovation in religion, and every innovation in religion is misguidance.” This type of bidah causes a person’s Eemaan (faith) to be deficient and distances him from the religion in accordance to the bidah that is committed, however the person is neither judged to be a disbeliever nor that he’ll remain in the hell fire forever, even though – as the scholars have stated – a bidah is a path that can lead to disbelief; it can lead a person bit by bit until he exits the religion of Islam.

Ref 1: NB: Even if a person falls into major disbelief or major shirk, then still it is not the responsibility of anyone to declare such a person a disbeliever, rather his affair is dealt with by the scholars. Specifying The Month of Rajab for Worship by Shaykh Muhammad ibn Saaleh Al-Uthaymeen

What is the ruling on specifying the Month of Rajab for Umrah, or Fasting or any other righteous actions? And does it have a distinction over the rest of the Sacred Months?

There is no distinction for the Month of Rajab over the rest of the Sacred Months, and it is not to be specified: Not for umrah, nor fasting , nor prayer and nor with reciting of the Quraan, rather it is like the rest of the Sacred Months.

And all the reported narrations regarding the virtue of it, praying in it (Rajab), or fasting in it, indeed they are weak, a legislated ruling can not be established upon them (weak narrations).

A Trial That Will Occur When The Upright Scholars Pass Away – [A Brief Admonition By Shaikh Abdullaah Al-Bukhaari]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

The Messenger of Allaah [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] said: “Verily, Allah does not take away knowledge by snatching it from the people, but He takes it away by taking away death of the religious scholars till none of the scholars remains alive. Then the people will take ignorant ones as their leaders, who, when asked to deliver religious verdicts, will issue them without knowledge, the result being that they will go astray and will lead others astray.” [Bukhari and Muslim]

Al-Haafidh Al-Qurtubiy (rahimahullaah) stated in Al-Mufhim: ‘’This text (proves) that indeed the disappearance of knowledge will not be by way of its removal from the hearts (of the people); but (its disappearance) will be through the death of the scholars, (then) the ignorant people will remain- those who will occupy the place of the scholars in the (field) of giving verdicts and teaching.  They will teach and give verdicts based on ignorance, so ignorance will spread and become manifest.’’ [End of quote]

Then Shaikh Abdullaah Al-Bukhaari (may Allaah preserve him) said after the above quote: ‘’So if the ‘Sound Sunni knowledge’ is taken away, then acting upon it will be taken away-is that not the case? When ignorance manifests, acting upon it will become manifest; so both knowledge and acting upon (Knowledge) will disappear. Ignorance will manifest and acting upon (ignorance) will become widespread just as Al-Haafidh Al-Qurtubiy (rahimahullaah) clarified in Al-Mufhim.” [Source: Al-Hajr Fee Daw-il Kitaab Was-Sunnah Wa Fahm Salafil Ummah’ Page: 15-16 by Shaikh Abdullaah Al-Bukhaari (may Allaah preserve him)]
