Transgression Against Sound Religion And Beneficial Worldly Sciences By Two Groups of Extremists- [Militant Secularists And Their Ilk; Boko Haram, Al-Shabaab And Their Ilk]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

We Are Commanded to Protect Ourselves and Our Families From The Fire

Shaikh Abdullah Bin Humaid [rahimahullaah] said: Allaah [Glorified and Exalted be He] said:

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا قُوا أَنفُسَكُمْ وَأَهْلِيكُمْ نَارًا وَقُودُهَا النَّاسُ وَالْحِجَارَةُ عَلَيْهَا مَلَائِكَةٌ غِلَاظٌ شِدَادٌ لَّا يَعْصُونَ اللَّهَ مَا أَمَرَهُمْ وَيَفْعَلُونَ مَا يُؤْمَرُونَ

O you who believe! Ward off from yourselves and your families a Fire (Hell) whose fuel is men and stones, over which are (appointed) angels stern (and) severe, who disobey not, (from executing) the Commands they receive from Allah, but do that which they are commanded. [Soorah Tahreem: Ayah: 6]

The meaning of  ”O you who believe”: Some of the pious predecessors said that if you hear the statement of Allaah ‘’O you who believe’‘, then listen attentively because it is either something good you are being commanded or something forbidden you are being prohibited from.

We Are Commanded to Teach Our Children The Shahaadatayn And Keep Them Away From Bidah

And regarding the statement ‘’Ward off from yourselves and your families a Fire (Hell)”; This cannot be achieved except by fulfilling the commandments of Allaah and keeping away from what He has forbidden. This is what the statement ‘’Ward off from yourselves’’ means-by fulfilling the rights of Shahaadah ‘None has the right to be worshipped except Allaah’’; by worshipping Allaah [alone], acquainting yourself with Tawheed and free the Shahaadah from all that either negates it or that which negates the obligations it necessitates. [Likewise], free the Shahaadah from innovations in the religion which are a belittlement of it and the sins that diminishes its worth.  Likewise, [the statement Muhammad is the Messenger of Allaah’ has rights], and that is to fulfil what the Messenger [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] commanded and keep away from everything he has forbidden, and that your worship of your Creator is carried out in accordance with what the Messenger [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wsallam] legislated.

Children Are The Most Important Members of The Family

And also regarding the statement, ‘’Ward off from yourselves and your families a Fire (Hell)’’: It is well known that children are the most important part of the family, therefore you must take up a shield of protection against the fire to protect your children and those under your care. And what is this protection? It is the advice and guidance you give them about that which will benefit them- teaching them what is beneficial and correct by way of which Eemaan is nurtured in the hearts and by way of which they will come to know the rights of their Creator and the rights of their parents.  This is the meaning of ‘’Ward off yourselves and your families a Fire [hell]’’- by advising, guiding, teaching and distancing them from everything that will hold them back [from goodness, uprightness etc.].

Children Must Be Distanced From Evil Companions; They Must Be Taught The Sound Islamic Creed First and Foremost, And Then The Beneficial Worldly Sciences

We said that children are the most important part of the family, so they must be taught what benefits them and are distanced from evil companions. Teaching them necessitates that which the Book and the Sunnah necessitates in their religious affairs, so that they are nurtured upon a sound, beneficial and good nurturing. And we do not say that it is prohibited to study the beneficial worldly sciences because the religion of Islaam does not prohibit it, such as the knowledge of medicine, economics, business and its likes. However, these affairs come after rectification of the creed and after being [acquainted with] the knowledge of Tawheed.  This is what is specified as an obligation.

And protecting the family [necessitates] that you distance your children from evil companions- those who have no goodness in them, such as the atheists or those Bedouins who are distanced from their religion. Therefore, you must warn your children about mixing with them and you must strive to [make sure that] they do not mix with them.  If your child mixes with them, their evil practices will  affect him. Even if your child is sensible, he will adopt some of their manners and deeds due to those evil companions. When a healthy she camel intermingles with a camel afflicted with scabies, it will be afflicted with scabies; or when someone intermingles a lot with a camel afflicted with scabies, he will become afflicted with scabies and his scabies will be transferred to the group and they all become afflicted.

Children Are to Be Nurtured to Preserve The Five Daily Prayers

Teach your children and continue [commanding them] to preserve the five daily prayers, for indeed the prayer is religion and it prevents one from committing obscene and evil deeds.   In most cases, if you see your child always frequenting the mosque, then this is a sign of goodness and uprightness, as the Prophet [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] said: ‘’If you see a person always frequenting the masjid, then bear witness to his Imaan.’’

Admonition to The One Who Rejoices Because of Their Child’s Worldly Achievements Yet Such a Child Is Ignorant About The Rights of Allaah

You say, ‘’Indeed, my child graduated from such and such university and he has a master’s degree or what they call a PHD, and he studied in America or in London or in such university; and you think that with these [qualifications] he has become a mountain amongst the mountains of the earth’’; but  as long as he is unaware of the rights of his Lord, unaware of your rights and the affairs of his religion, then by Allaah he is a mirage and there is neither goodness in him nor in his knowledge [of the worldly sciences]. To be ignorant [of these worldly science] would be better for him because they led him to reject his religion, country and society. The situation of [this person who abandoned his religion] is that of evil and his manners have been corrupted.  Therefore, it is obligatory that you do not become lackadaisical concerning the affairs of your children as long as they are young.  Teach them what is beneficial and nurture them upon good.

Teachers And Parents Must Work Closely Together to Nurture  The Children of The Ummah Upon Sound Islaam, And We  Should Take Heed Lest We Neglect This Responsibility And Be From Those Who Betray The Trust That Has Been Entrusted Upon Them

It is obligated on the teachers to implant the true creed in the hearts of the young generation.  They should clarify -for them- the wisdom, beauty and underlying reasons behind the rulings of the Islamic law until their hearts grow in Eemaan and radiated with its light, so that they become upright and benefit their country, governments, Islamic Nation, its people and the Religion.  Therefore, the teacher who teachers your child should be an upright example for his pupils.  They take him as an example in fulfilling the commands of Allaah and in his manners, just as Ut’bah Bin Abee Sufyaan said to his children’s teacher: ‘’Indeed, I have come to you to teach my children; firstly: rectify yourself and adhere to your religion, because their eyes are fixed on you.  They will not see you beautifying or doing something, except that they will blindly follow you.’’ Then he said to the teacher, ‘’Teach them the best of the narrations’’; meaning: The best and most beneficial, and the most beneficial science.  Then he said: ‘’Keep them away from flirting with women and composing love poems about them; rather teach them the hadeeth and the Qur’aan, and [those] poetry and etiquettes of the Arabs that develops bravery in the souls, heroism, nobility and adherence to good customs.’’  This is what Ut’bah said to the teacher of his children; He said: ‘’They [my children] will follow your deeds just as they learn from your sciences, so therefore your actions must be good.’’

Therefore, if the teacher strives together with the households and the fathers, the child will be given a good and upright upbringing.  He will benefit his country and government, and Allaah will benefit Islaam and the Muslims through him.  However, if his teacher is one of the corrupters, the enemies of Allaah, His Messenger, the religion of Islaam and the Muslim lands, [the student] will follow his footsteps because a student treads upon the fundamental principles of the teacher.

Alas, how can we be pleased with sending our young children to a faculty in America or to such and such country, and he [the parent] says: ‘’My child has gone to study’’, [whilst he has gone] to study disbelief, hearsay, deviation, how to turn away from his family, his country and religion!! They will teach him this, just as Zimmer [The Catholic philosopher and theologian] advocated.

This Zimmer was a head of Christian Missionaries and he sent Christian missionaries to the various regions of the Arab-Islamic Countries.  He gathered them before dispersing them and said,  ‘’Inform me of what you will be doing in the Muslim countries?’’  One of them said: ‘’I will convert five to Christianity.’’  Another said: ‘’I will convert two to Christianity, and I will give them the blessings of Christianity and make them thankful.’’  He (Zimmer) said: ‘’You have not understood our desired objective! It is not possible to convert the Muslims to Christianity; it is not possible for the Muslims to reject their religion, except if you teach them. The most important thing is that you teach the Muslim children by sowing doubts in their souls about their religion and rejection in their souls against their countries.  And eventually when one of them sets up a centre in his country, he will give no importance to anything else except his desires.  And when he gathers wealth, he will do so according to his desires.  Therefore, he ends up having no religion and no connection with his Creator.  Therefore, cultivate the lands of Muhammad [i.e. the Muslim lands] upon this.’’

And he (Zimmer) said in another speech of his: ‘’Indeed, Islaam is like a tree, therefore cut off its branches.  Its branches are the children of the Muslims, therefore teach them so that they can aid you to cut off the tree of Islaam in their countries.  You will not be able to cut it off yourselves, rather teach their children to aid you in uprooting it in their countries.’’

This is their statement [O reader]! If this is their statement, then how can a person excuse himself for sending his young child to Germany, France, America, Italy and London, whilst he has not yet been nurtured upon the correct creed.  This is an error. [Your Muslim child] will come to you whilst turning away from his religion, turning away from his parents and looking down upon them.  He will consider them to be [people] who neither possesses understanding nor do they know, whilst in reality he is the one without understanding.  Therefore, it is incumbent upon a person to give serious concern to the children under his care because they are a trust.  And when you neglect them, then indeed you have betrayed the trust.  Allaah [The Most High] said: [يَـٰٓأَيُّہَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ لَا تَخُونُواْ ٱللَّهَ وَٱلرَّسُولَ وَتَخُونُوٓاْ أَمَـٰنَـٰتِكُمۡ وَأَنتُمۡ تَعۡلَمُونَ  – O you who believe! Betray not Allah and His Messenger, nor betray knowingly your Amanat [things entrusted to you and all the duties which Allah has ordained for you]. [Soorah Anfaal: Ayah: 27]

Therefore, your children are a trust and when you neglect them, then indeed you have betrayed them.  It is obligated on every one of us to fear Allaah with regards to the [affair] of his children and those under his care. The days go past and the end of a [person’s] lifespan draws closer, and a person does not know when his life span will suddenly come to [an end].  [A person] must strive to teach his children beneficial knowledge, nurtures them upon goodness and obedience to [Allaah and His Messenger].  “All of you are shepherds and each of you is responsible for his flock.  A man is the shepherd of his household and he is responsible for them.  A woman is a shepherdess in her husband’s house and she is responsible for her flock.” And Allaah knows best, and may the peace and blessings of Allaah be upon Muhammad [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam], His family and companions. [Ref 1]

Some Plots of The Militant Secularists Through Education

Shaikh Abdul-Azeez Bin Baaz [rahimahullaah] said: They seek to conquer the intellects of the Muslim children and nurture their hearts upon their views, either by making them feel that their ways are superior in every affair-be it in affairs of creed and religion, or that which they speak with by way of languages, or what they consider to be civilized manners, customs etc.. They seek to nurture a great number of Muslims in the Muslim lands until they are intoxicated with their views and return them to their lands. Then they start praising and promoting them until they become the figureheads in their countries. So they spread their ideas through these people…etc They encourage the Muslims in the Muslim lands to learn their languages at the expense of the Arabic language, which is the language of the Qur’aan- the language by way of which the Muslims perform their acts of worship. They also establish many studies that are intended to cause nuisance and glorify what they call popular literature and national heritage…..etc They prepare a large number of people amongst their people to study Islam and the Arabic language and write books, and take up teaching positions in universities- orientalists….etc They also spread propaganda that Muslim women in the Muslim lands are oppressed in order to take them out of their homes and place them where they want. But Allaah (The Most High) said:

يَا أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ قُلْ لِأَزْوَاجِكَ وَبَنَاتِكَ وَنِسَاءِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ يُدْنِينَ عَلَيْهِنَّ مِنْ جَلابِيبِهِنَّ ذَلِكَ أَدْنَى أَنْ يُعْرَفْنَ فَلا يُؤْذَيْنَ وَكَانَ اللَّهُ غَفُورًا رَحِيمًا

O Prophet! Tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks (veils) all over their bodies. That will be better, that they should be known (as free respectable women) so as not to be annoyed. And Allah is Ever Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” They set up radio programmes designed to mislead gullible young Muslims who do not understand Islam and do not have sufficient knowledge, especially in Africa…. However if the Muslims exercise patience these plots will not harm them. Allaah (The Most High) said: [وَإِنْ تَصْبِرُوا وَتَتَّقُوا لا يَضُرُّكُمْ كَيْدُهُمْ شَيْئًا إِنَّ اللَّهَ بِمَا يَعْمَلُونَ مُحِيطٌ – But if you remain patient and become Al-Muttaqun (the pious – see V.2:2), not the least harm will their cunning do to you. Surely, Allah surrounds all that they do]. [Ref 2]

Transgressors Against Religion – Boko Haram And Al-Shabab

Just as the militant secularists seek to destroy the sound creed and morals of the Muslims, likewise Boko Haram, Al-Shabab and other extremist devils are misguided fanatics who destroy the religion with their false methodologies. They have no scholars amongst them and are unable to refute the claims and ideas of the corrupters with sound evidences, so they chose the path of the devil in violating the blood and honour of innocent people-Muslims and non-Muslims.

Warning against Boko Haram: The Mufti [Shaikh Abdul Azeez Aala Shaikh [hafidhahullaah] of Saudi Warns against Boko Haram:

Al-Allaamah Abdul Azeez Aala Shaikh (may Allaah preserve him) says: *Boka Haraam is a misguided group and are from the khawaarij. *Their actions are evil and harmful for Islam and the Muslims. *Their actions are destructive. *Abducting girls is from the actions of a misguided group. *If Boka Haraam are claiming a call to jihad, then it is nothing but ignorance and enmity against Islaam and the Muslims. *Boka Haraam are not upon correctness and guidance because Islaam opposes abduction/kidnapping, unlawful killing and transgression. *Marrying off kidnapped/abducted females is haraam and it is not permissible to give them in marriage. An Excerpt -[slightly paraphrased]. See link for further details:  http://www.sahab.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=143763 http://wp.me/p4cUPQ-az

Aashooraa: [Salafis Are Innocent of Raafidah Shiites, Khawaarij (ISIS and Their Ilk), Proponents of Corrupt Unity And False Analysis of Militant Secularist]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

The Middle Path Regarding Aashooraa- A Rebuttal Against The Raafidah And Other People of Innovation

Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah [rahimahullaah] was asked about what some people do on the day of Aashooraa, such as: Applying kohl and Hena, shaking hands, taking a bath, preparing food such barley and other grains, and manifesting happiness; are there any authentic hadeeth from the Prophet [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] regarding this or not? If there are none, then would this be considered bidah or not? As for what is done by the other group, such as mourning, manifesting grief, deliberately making oneself thirsty and scarring oneself, wailing, reciting [poems] and fainting as a result of that and slapping the cheeks, do these actions have a basis in the religion or not?

Answer: All the praises and thanks be to Allaah, Lord of the Aalameen. No authentic hadeeth from the Prophet [sallal laahu alayhi sallam] has been reported in this regard nor from his companions; neither any of the Imaams of [ahlus sunnah] have declared this to be recommended nor the four Imaams [Abu Haneefah, Maalik, Ahmad and Shaafi’ee]; neither have the scholars- those who authored and compiled the books that are relied upon due to their authenticity- reported anything authentic or weak regarding this from the Prophet [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam], nor from the Sahaabah and the Taabi’een; neither in the authentic books of hadeeth nor in the Sunan, nor in the [compilations such as Musnad Ahmad and other compilations similar to it]. The virtuous first three generations of Islaam knew nothing about these narrations.

However, some of those who came after the first three virtuous generations of Islaam have narrated reports related to this, such as: ‘’Whoever applies kohl on the day of Aashooraa, he will not be sore-eyed in that year’’; ‘’Whoever bathes on the day of Aashooraa, he will not become sick in that year.’’ They also transmitted reports regarding the virtue of prayer on the day of Aashooraa; and that Aadam’s [alayhis salaam] repentance [i.e. after eating from the tree he was forbidden] took place on the day of Aashooraa; and that it was the day Nuh’s [alayhis salaam] ark settled on mount Judi; and that it was the day Ya’qoob [alayhis salaam] reunited with Yoosuf [alayhis salaam]; and that it was the day Ibraaheem [alayhis salaam] was saved from the fire etc They also narrated fabricated reports and lies attributed to the Prophet [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] that he said, “Whoever gives [generously] to his family on the day of Aashooraa, Allaah will give him [generously] throughout the year.” All these reports are lies attributed to Prophet [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam]. [1]

There emerged an ignorant and transgressing group [i.e. the Shia Rawaafid]-they are either disbelieving hypocrites or misguided straying ones. They manifested a (so called) allegiance to the Prophet’s household and took Ashoorah as a day of mourning, sadness and wailing (i.e. due to the murder of Husayn-radiyallaahu-anahu). They manifest the acts of the days of pre-Islamic ignorance (on this day of Ashoorah) by slapping the cheeks, tearing their clothes and calling to the slogans of the pre-Islamic period of ignorance and disbelief. However, that which Allaah and His Messenger commanded when new calamities occur is that (one) exercises patience, hoping for the reward of Allaah, recalling one’s faults and repenting, as Allaah (The Most High) said:

But give glad tidings to As-Saabireen (the patient ones, etc.). Who, when afflicted with calamity, say: “Truly! To Allah we belong and truly, to Him we shall return.” They are those on whom are the Salaam (i.e. blessings, etc.) (i.e. who are blessed and will be forgiven) from their Lord, and (they are those who) receive His Mercy, and it is they who are the guided ones. [Soori Al-Baqarah: Ayaan: 55-57]

And it has been reported in the Saheehayn (Bukhaari and Muslim) from the Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) that he said: ‘’He is not from us, he who slaps his cheeks, tears his cloths and calls to the slogans of the pre-Islamic period of ignorance.’’ [2]

They also recite poems that convey sadness and narrate reports that contain a lot of lies.  As for the truth in them, it only renews their [exaggerated and misguided manner of grieving], bigoted allegience, incitement to hatred and war, initiating trials between the people of Islaam by way of that and as a means of reviling those who were foremost to enter into the fold of Islaam [i.e. the Sahaabah of Badr]. The evil of these people [i.e. the raafidah] and their harm on the people of Islaam cannot even be expressed by an eloquent man.

However, they [i.e. Raafidah] are opposed by another people – a people who are either Nawaasib [i.e. those who hate the family of the Prophet] or ignoramuses; so, they oppose the corruption of the [Shia Raafidah] with another type of corruption, lies with other lies, evil with another type of evil, and bidah with another type of bidah. They fabricate poems that convey rejoice and happiness on the day of Aashooraa, apply kohl, dye their clothes with a different colour, spend more on their families and cook food they do not normally cook. So, these people take the day of Aashooraa as an occasion similar to the occasions of celebrations and happiness [i.e. such as the two eeds]. On the other hand, the Raafidah take it as a day of mourning, grief and pain [i.e. inflicting injuries on themselves]. Both groups are mistaken and have exited the authentic sunnah in this affair.

As for all the other deeds [i.e. the deeds innovated and specified on the day of Aashoraa], such as making food that is not normally made based on the customs of the people – be it grains or other than them, renewing one’s clothing, spending more on [families etc], performing a specific act of worship, such a prayer specified on the day of [Aashooraa], making an intention to offer a sacrifice, preserving the meat of the slaughtered animals to cook it with grains, applying kohl, dying one’s clothing, taking a bath, shaking hands, visiting one another, visiting mosques, [so called] sacred places and other than that, all these deeds are evil and innovations in the religion. Allaah’s Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] never legislated these deeds [on the day of Aashooraa] nor the rightly guided Khulafaa, nor did any of the Imaams of the Muslims, such as Maalik, Ath-Thawree, Al-Layth Bin Sa’d, Abu Haneefah, Al-Awzaa’ee, Ash-Shaafi’ee, Ahmad Bin Hanbal, Ishaaq Bin Raahawayh. [3]

How Do We Deal With The Raafidah- A Rebuttal Against The Khawaarij [ISIS and Ilk] Due to The Atrocities And Terrorist Activities They Perpetrate Against The  Raafidah On The Day of Aashooraa

Shaikh Rabee [hafidhahullaah] was asked: Our Shaikh (may Allaah preserve you); the questioner says: What is the ruling on the common people of the Rawaafid (shia) and how do we deal with them?

Answer: The questioner differentiates between the common people and other than them. This is a good approach.  The common people who neither speak ill of the wives of the Messenger of Allaah [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] nor do they make Takfeer of the Sahaabah [radiyallaahu-anhum], nor do they believe that the Qur’aan is distorted; but they have some Rafd [i.e. beliefs of the raafidah] and some hatred for the Sahaabah without making Takfeer of them and what is similar to [these deeds]; then these ones are misguided innovators and we do not declare them disbelievers.

And whoever joins their heretics in pronouncing Takfeer against Muhammad’s [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] Sahaabah; speaking ill of the wives of the Messenger of Allaah [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] and the filthy belief that the Qur’aan has been distorted, and that there is an addition and deficiency in it, then this [person] is a Kaafir [disbeliever]- similar to the disbelievers of the Yahood and Nasaaraa. There is no differentiation between their common people and their scholars [in this affair].

Question: How do we deal with them? Answer: If dealing with them is with regards to a worldly affair-business transaction and what is similar to that- it is permissible to trade with a Yahoodi, a Nasraani and a Raafidee. However, as for co-operating with them in the affairs of religion, then never. [Allaah (The Most High)] said: [وَلَا تَعَاوَنُواْ عَلَى ٱلۡإِثۡمِ وَٱلۡعُدۡوَٲنِ‌ۚ -Do not help one another in sin and transgression][5:2] Rather their scholars and callers are boycotted and they are warned against. [Ref 4]

Rebuttal Against The Proponents of False Unity- By Shaikh rabee Bin Haadi

Question: What is your view regarding the statement of the one who says that indeed unity is a fundamental requirement, so if a person comes along to split that unity, it [is] obligatory to reject him, even if it is Tawheed he [propagates]?

Answer: Does Allaah [The Blessed and Exalted] merely intend unity, even if the Rawaafid, khawaarij, the Baatiniyyah, the grave worshippers and their ilk are part of this unity?! Is this the unity commanded by Allaah? Is this the meaning of Allaah’s [The Blessed and Exalted] statement:  وَاعْتَصِمُوا بِحَبْلِ اللَّهِ جَمِيعًا وَلَا تَفَرَّقُوا ۚ – And hold fast, all of you together, to the Rope of Allaah, and be not divided among yourselves]? [Surah Aal Imraan’ Aayah 103]

What is the Rope of Allaah? It is the Qur’aan and [authentic] Sunnah; therefore the bond of Tawheed between you has to be the Book of Allaah. Allaah [The Most High] said:[ إِنَّ هَٰذِهِ أُمَّتُكُمْ أُمَّةً وَاحِدَةً وَأَنَا رَبُّكُمْ فَاعْبُدُونِ – Truly! This, your Ummah is one Ummah, and I am your Lord, therefore worship Me [Alone]. [Surah Al-Anbiyaa’ Aayah 92]  This is the unity that Allaah wants- [unity] upon truth and the revelation Allaah- and obligated on us.

On the other hand, what do we call these people [i.e. those who want to unite upon divergent beliefs and methodologies]? [They are either] enemies of the Prophets or foolish ignoramuses [who carry] political views that are in opposition to the methodology of the Prophets, the methodology of Muhammad, the Dawah that consolidates unity upon truth and does not split the religion [i.e. into divergent sects], just as Allaah [Glorified and Exalted be He] said:

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ فَرَّقُوا دِينَهُمْ وَكَانُوا شِيَعًا لَّسْتَ مِنْهُمْ فِي شَيْءٍ ۚ إِنَّمَا أَمْرُهُمْ إِلَى اللَّهِ ثُمَّ يُنَبِّئُهُم بِمَا كَانُوا يَفْعَلُونَ

Verily, those who divide their religion and break up into sects [all kinds of religious sects] , you [O Muhammad] have no concern in them in the least. Their affair is only with Allah, Who then will tell them what they used to do. [Surah Al-An’aam’ Aayah 159]

The sound Dawah [necessitates] that we unite the people upon the Book of Allaah and the [authentic] Sunnah of Allaah’s Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam], so whoever responds will enter – InshaaAllaah- in the shelter of the saved sect and victorious group, and whoever refuses, then indeed he has chosen to be from the destroyed sects- those whom Allaah’s Messenger [sallal laahu  alayhi wasallam] informed us about; because they [i.e. these sects] refuse to unite under the banner of Tawheed, the Qur’aan and the [authentic] Sunnah, therefore they follow nothing else but the paths which the devils amongst mankind and Jinn call to [Ref 1], and Allaah has not burdened any soul beyond what it can bear.

At present, we experience the end results of these Da’waat [i.e. calls of the deviated sects] on the face of the earth! What is taking place at present in Afghanistan between the people of these calls? What took place after Kabul was liberated [i.e. from the Russians]? Did the people of these calls not start to quarrel and kill one another for sake of position! At present we’ve seen divisions [amongst the groups], except the Dawah of the Imaam – The Mujaddid – Muhammad Bin Abdil Wahhaab [rahimahullaah].

The [upright] scholars of this Dawah have not differed up to this era – no differing in Manhaj,  Aqeedah or politics has occurred between them, because indeed it is a Dawah based on: “Allaah said and Allaah’s Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] said”, however others besides them have become [divergent] groups – Jamaa’atut Takfeer [i.e. the Takfeeri Group], Jamaa’atul Jihaad [i.e. the Jihaadi Takfeeris], groups based on splitting and schism, [the emergence] of group after group, without an end…and one cannot find anything to protect them from splitting, [because] that which will protect [this Ummah] from splitting is the Qur’aan [i.e. sound understanding of the Qur’aan based on the understanding of the Sahaabah] and unity upon that. This is why the affair of the sincere ones has been prolonged and amongst those sincere ones are the people upon the Da’wah of Imaam Muhammad Bin Abdil Wahhaab [rahimahullaah], and you will find the [upright] scholars of this Da’wah upon [true and sound] brotherhood- neither differing in Methodology and Creed nor does politics [i.e. innovated political activity] exist amongst them. [Ref 5]

Abdullaah Ibn Mas’ood[radiyallaahu-anhu] drew a straight line and drew lines to its right and to its left and then said: The Messenger (sallallaahu alaihi wasallam) drew just like this, and he said about the straight line: This is the path of Allaah and about the lines to its right and left he said: These are different ways, upon each of these ways is a devil calling to it.” Allaah the Exalted said: “And verily, this is my Straight Path, so follow it, and do not follow other paths.”[Al-An–aam 6:153]. Who Are The Takfeeris And Terrorists? [A Lie And False Claim of The Ignorant Raafidah and Militant Secularists Rebutted By Shaikh Rabee (hafidhahullaah)]

The political parties [or groups] emerged in this era [whilst] affected- to some extent- by the creed and methodologies of [the khawaarij]. And for this reason they do not give importance to [other affairs] besides politics. Neither do they give any concern to rectifying the situation of the Ummah though [sound] Creed and Knowledge nor do reflect upon [the affair about] returning the Ummah to the Book, the [authentic] Sunnah, and the piety and steadfastness the Salafus Saaleh were upon in every aspect of the Religion. Rather they [i.e. these political parties (or groups)] increase the Ummah in corruption upon corruption-in creed and manners. So, you see them giving allegiance to the people of Bidah and Misguidance; waging war against the people who [truly] follow the Qur’aan and the Sunnah, and the scholars [i.e. waging war against those scholars who truly adhere to the Qur’aan and the Sunnah].

They erect false objectives and  slogans for Ahlul Bidah Wad-Dalaalah [the people of Bidah and Misguidance] and their books; and amongst them [i.e. these people of bidah] are Sayyid Qutb and his followers – the one [i.e. Sayyid Qutub] who embark upon the stratagem of the Khawaarij, the Rawaafid, the Mu’tazilah and the Jahmiyyah in creed, methodology and politics; especially in the subject matter of Takfeer based on oppression and ignorance [i.e. he make Takfeer based on ignorance and oppression]. According to him all human societies are societies of Pre-Islamic ignorance and the Muslim Ummah is the severest in its apostasy and Pre-Islamic state of ignorance. Thereafter, the path of the Baatiniyyah was added to this [methodology of his, such] as assassinations, blowing up [buildings, people etc]. Then his followers attribute themselves to the Salafi Methodology based on a mighty plot against the [true, upright] leaders [of the Salafi Methodology].

[Therefore], when you come to know this, you will know that the Salafi Methodology is free from this [type] of Takfeer, [the evil act of blowing up buildings, people etc] and destruction; and you will know who the treacherous people are. If you know this, then it is tantamount to an act of manifest oppression when the Raafidah, the Secularists and Rationalists attribute [terrorist acts], [false] Takfeer and destruction to the Salafi Methodology. [5] Reminders About Dark Beliefs and Deeds of Those Who Scream and Wail; Slash, Whip and Hit Themselves On The Day of Aa’shooraa: [The Raafidah And Taqiyyah]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful The Bestower of Mercy.

Al-Haafidh Ibn Hajr (rahimahullah) said: It (Taqiyya) is to be careful of making known to others what is in the heart with regards one’s creed or other than it. [End of quote: Fat-hul baaree 12/314]

According to the raafidi Kulayni, one of their leaders said, “Taqiyyah is from my religion and the religion of my forefathers, and there is no Eemaan for the one who does not have Taqiyyah”. [Al-Kaafi 2/219]

The raafidah consider this Taqiyya to be of lofty virtue and high station in their religion. Kulayni also said in Usool Al-kaafee (the main book containing their heretical and polytheistic beliefs) that nine- tenths of (their) religion is based on Taqiyya and one cannot be (ascribed to the raafidah religion) if he has no Taqiyya. [Usool Al-kaafee 2/217]

Beware of the deceitful political partisans

Some of the deceitful political partisans-those who have been blinded by corrupt political ambitions and love of leadership-seek to confuse the general masses or the least they try to dilute and destroy the correct stances obligated on a Muslim to employ against the heretical raafidah. So some of these deceitful political partisans say that Taqiyya is not something specific to the raafidah, rather it is something established in the religion of Islaam. However, these satanic forces of deceit amongst the deceitful political partisans do not give the full details regarding the differences between the satanic Taqiyya employed by the heretical raafidah and the Taqiyyah permitted in the pure Islamic legislation. They do not make known the fact that the legislated permissible Taqiyya is a concession and not a conviction in one’s faith, as Mu-aadh Ibn Jabal (radiyallaahu anhu) said: “Taqiyya was (employed by the believers at the time when) Islaam was new and before the Muslims gained authority; but as for today, Allaah has strengthened Islaam and the (believers) do not fear their enemies.” [For further details see Tafseer Al-Qurtubi 4/57]

Therefore, this Taqiyya (i.e. being careful of stating one’s true belief and fear of manifesting it to an aggressive opponent due to fear of being murdered or afflicted with great harm) is employed whilst dealing with the oppressive tyrannical disbelievers and not with the believers. Imaam Tabari (rahimahullah) said: “The Taqiyya mentioned in this Ayah [i.e. soorah Aali Imraan: Ayah: 28] is a Taqiyya (employed with) those disbelievers (who are tyrants) and not other than them. [Tafseer At-Tabari 3/153].

Taqiyyah is not permissible except out of fear of being killed, lacerated or (afflicted) with great harm. So whoever is forced to utter disbelief, then what is correct is that he remains firm and does not respond by uttering a statement of disbelief; but it is permissible to do so (as a concession whilst his heart is firm upon Imaan and not in agreement with what he has uttered due to being forced). [For further details see Tafseer Al-Qurtubi 4/57]

As for the Taqiyya employed by the raafidah heretics, then all of it is the opposite of what the pure Islamic legislation permitted; rather they hide their disbelief from the common Muslims-especially in those Muslim lands in which the Muslims are well aware of their polytheistic practices and wicked beliefs-whilst showing that they are in agreement. That is because if they manifest the filthy, wicked and vile beliefs they hold about the Sahaabah etc, every sane Muslim will boycott them. However, some of the deceitful political partisans come along and utter half-truths in order to deceive the Muslims and achieve their corrupt political ambitions.

Admonition From The Hadeeth of Hudhaifah: “People Used to Ask The Messenger of Allaah About The Good Times, But I Used to Ask Him About Bad Times…”

In The Name of Allaah The Most Merciful The Bestower of Mercy.

Al-Allaamah Saaleh Al-Fawzaan [may Allaah preserve him] said:

All praise and thanks be to Allaah, Lord of the Aalameen, and may Allaah’s peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family and his companions.  To proceed: Indeed, the hadith that will be addressed – in this lecture – is the hadith of Hudhaifah Bin al Yamaan [radiyallaahu anhu].  He said: ‘’People used to ask the Messenger of Allaah [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] about the good times, but I used to ask him about bad times fearing lest they overtake me.  I said, ‘O Messenger of Allaah! We were in a state of pre-Islamic ignorance and evil, and then Allaah brought us this good [time through Islam], is there any evil time after this good one?’ He said, ‘Yes.’ I asked, ‘Will there be a good time again after that evil?’ He said, ‘Yes, but therein will be a hidden evil.’ I asked, ‘What will be the evil hidden therein?’ He said, ‘[That time will witness the rise of] the people who will follow ways other than mine and seek guidance other than mine. You will know [their] good points as well as [their] bad points.’ I asked, ‘Will there be an evil time after this good one?’ He said, ‘Yes. [A time will come] when there will be people standing and inviting at the gates of Hell. Whosoever responds to their call they will throw them into the fire.’ I said, ‘O Messenger of Allaah! Describe them for us.’ He said, ‘They will be a people having the same complexion as ours and speaking our language.’ I said, ‘O Messenger of Allaah! What do you suggest if I happen to live in that time?’ He said, ‘You should stick to the main body of the Muslims and their leader.’ I said, ‘If they have no [such thing as the] main body and have no leader?’ He said, ‘Separate yourself from all these factions, though you may have to eat the roots of trees [in a jungle] until death comes to you and you are in this state.’’’ [Bukhari and Muslim…. The wording of the above is that of Imaam Muslim]

Indeed, Allaah pre-decreed [Ref1] that the creation will be visited by tribulations, trials and tests, in order that the truthful one is distinguished from the hypocrite. Allaah [The Exalted] said:

الٓمٓ

أَحَسِبَ النَّاسُ أَنْ يُتْرَكُوا أَنْ يَقُولُوا آمَنَّا وَهُمْ لَا يُفْتَنُونَ

وَلَقَدْ فَتَنَّا الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ ۖ فَلَيَعْلَمَنَّ اللَّهُ الَّذِينَ صَدَقُوا وَلَيَعْلَمَنَّ الْكَاذِبِينَ

Alif-Laam-Meem. Do people think that they will be left alone because they say: ‘’We believe,’’ and will not be tested. And We indeed tested those who were before them. And Allaah will certainly make (it) known (the truth of) those who are true, and will certainly make (it) known (the falsehood) of those who are liars, (although Allaah knows all that before putting them to test).’’ [Surah Al-Ankabut. Aayaat 1-3]

Fitnah is a test. The human being will not be left alone because he says, ‘’I believe, I submit, I am a Muslim, I am a believer’’; [rather] he will be put to trial. If he exercises patience and firmly holds onto his Eemaan during [times] of tribulations, then indeed he is the one truthful to his Eemaan. If he deviates during [times] of tribulations and turns away from his Religion, then this one is not truthful to his Eemaan.  He is a hypocrite [i.e. depending on the severity of the deviation], as Allaah [The Exalted] said:

‘’And of mankind, there are some (hypocrites) who say: “We believe in Allaah and the Last Day” while in fact they believe not. They (think to) deceive Allaah and those who believe, while they only deceive themselves, and perceive (it) not! In their hearts is a disease (of doubt and hypocrisy) and Allaah has increased their disease. A painful torment is theirs because they used to tell lies.’’ [Surah Al-Baqarah Aayaat 8-10]

This is the Sunnah [Way] of Allaah [The Mighty and Majestic].  Allaah [The Mighty and Majestic] said:

‘’Allaah will not leave the believers in the state in which you are now, until He distinguishes the wicked from the good. Nor will Allaah disclose to you the secrets of the Ghaib (unseen), but Allaah chooses of His Messengers whom He pleases. So, believe in Allaah and His Messengers. And if you believe and fear Allaah, then for you there is a great reward.’’ [Surah Aal Imraan. Aayah 179]

Allaah allows trials and tests to occur in order to distinguish the truthful one from the liar, the true believer from the hypocritical liar, and the good one from the wicked one. This is part of Allaah’s [perfect] Wisdom.  Trials will come to pass upon the people as a result of this [perfect] Wisdom.  If trials do not occur, then truth will be confounded with falsehood-the believer will be confused for the hypocrite and there will not be a distinction between this one and that one.

In this hadith reported by the honourable companion Hudhaifah Bin Al Yamaan [radiyallaahu-anhu], he said: ”The people used to ask the Messenger of Allaah [sallal-laahu alayhi wa sallam] about the good times.”

They used to ask him [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] about the good related to righteous actions, affairs of the correct Islamic creed and dealings, but Hudhaifah used to ask him [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] about the evil times fearing lest they overcome him. Therefore, in this is evidence that it is not enough to only learn about the good; rather one must know about the evil in order to avoid it. If you do not know about the evil, you will come close to falling into it, as the poet said: ”I acquaint myself with the evil not for the sake of evil, but to be safeguarded from it. The one who does not know [the distinction between] evil and good will fall into evil.

A person must learn about the truth-its proofs and evidences. He must learn and know what falsehood is and the doubts associated with it, in order that he can be saved from falsehood and warn people against it. How can he avoid and warn people against it if he is unaware of it? And with regards to this, the Qur’aan has clarified truth and falsehood; it has clarified Eemaan and Kufr, Tawheed and Shirk, and Halaal and Haraam. It has not only clarified Tawheed, Halaal and truth; rather it clarified that which is in opposition to them, so that the Muslim can avoid them.

Likewise, the Prophet [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam]- in his Sunnah- clarified good and evil, truth and falsehood in all affairs of the religion. The scholars [may Allaah have mercy upon them] clarified – in their written works- what Tawheed, Shirk, disbelief and hypocrisy are. They have clarified the belief of Ahlus Sunnah wal Jamaa-ah and the beliefs of the deviated sects, such as the Jahmiyyah, the Mutazilah, the Ashaa-irah…..and other than that.

They have clarified the correct and forbidden [deeds related] to mutual dealings. They have clarified the correct [Islamic] marriage, the false and corrupt marriage and the women forbidden [for one to marry]. They have clarified the [good manners legislated in the sharee’ah] and the evil manners that are in opposition to it. All of this gives the Muslim an insight into his affairs, so that he knows the truth by its evidences, knows what falsehood is and the doubts associated with it, in order that he can avoid falsehood and tell the people avoid it.

This is why you find in the books of belief: clarification of the belief in Tawheed and the belief of Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jamaa-ah, clarification of the beliefs [that are tantamount] to misguidance, the doubts associated with it and refutation against it, in order that the Muslim is not misled by beliefs [that are tantamount to] deviation, false beliefs and deviated schools of thought; and in order that the Muslims can be upon a correct understanding with regards to the affairs of their religion and that which is in opposition to it.

Some of the people at present- the majority of them ignorant ones and amongst them misguided ones- say, “Do not learn about the false beliefs; suffice yourselves with learning the correct belief only and do not involve yourself in seeking to know the beliefs of the people of misguidance and the refutations against their doubts. Leave this and teach the children of the Muslims the correct belief only. Do not inform them about the statements that are in opposition [to the truth], the doubts and refutation against them.”  This one [i.e. the one who makes these statements] is either one of the ignorant people who knows nothing about knowledge or he is one of those motivated by personal desires-those who want to spread the false schools of thought and their doubts; rather it may be that they say, ‘’It is sufficient for a person to say, ‘I am a Muslim; I am a believer….. a general Islaam suffices, do not say, ‘Ahlus Sunnah wal Jamaa-ah, [do not say], ‘the people of misguidance, splitting and differing; do not say this, because it will cause division between the Muslims.’’’

These [statements are tantamount to] misguidance because Allaah [The Mighty and Majestic] has clarified the truth in opposition to falsehood, guidance in opposition to misguidance and Tawheed in opposition to shirk. Allaah [The Mighty and Majestic] has clarified all the affairs of the Religion- a detailed clarification of the affairs related to worship, mutual dealings and manners. Therefore, this must be clarified in order that it is made clear to the people, [and in order] that they can be upon clarity, and so that the true Muslim is distinguished from the so-called Muslim and no deviation and forgery enters into Islaam. We must make a distinction between this and that one, in order that truth is not confounded with falsehood, and [in order] to distinguish between truth and falsehood, and [between] good and wickedness. We do not suffice ourselves with a general Islaam because this is misleading, and it is deception. We warn against this propaganda. The truth must be clarified and distinguished from falsehood, and guidance must be distinguished from misguidance. Hudhaifah [radiyallaahu-anhu] used to ask the Prophet [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] about the evil and did not suffice himself by only asking the Prophet about the good. The Prophet affirmed that for him and did not say to him: ”Suffice yourself with knowing what good is’’ rather he [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] affirmed and clarified- for him- the evil that was to occur, in order that he may beware and warn others. This is the Sunnah; this is the path of the Qur’aan and that of the Messenger [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam].

Hudhaifah said: ‘’I said: O Messenger of Allaah, we were in state of Al-Jaahiliyyah and evil’’

Al-Jaahiliyyah: It is derived from al-Jahl [ignorance]. It is the absence of knowledge, and the intent behind it is the state of affairs before Islaam. The state of affairs before the advent of Muhammad [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] is [referred to as] Al-Jaahiliyyah, because the people were in a state of [extreme] ignorance and misguidance in affairs related to worship, mutual dealings, food consumption, marriage and other than that. They were in [extreme] ignorance and misguidance due to the long period between Eesaa and Muhammad [i.e. the absence of a Messenger].

This was a period of over four hundred years in which the divine message ceased. The divine message was obscured, whilst ignorance and misguidance became widespread. The people worshiped idols, trees, stones, false deities, the Jinn and humans. They worshiped the Angels, the Awliyaa and the righteous people, and they were upon divergent paths.

And with regards to the affair of halaal and haraam, they did not distinguish between good and filth; rather they used to deal in usury. The usury of the pre-Islamic era of ignorance was that when they settled a debt with a debtor, they would say, ‘’Either you settle the debt, or we increase the debt and double the time it [should be paid].’’ This was the Pre-Islamic Usury and it used to be predominant in their mutual dealings. They used to gather wealth through forbidden means-through pillage, plunder, robbery and devouring people’s wealth through falsehood.

And with regards to food consumption, they made dead animals and blood lawful; they used to eat dead animals, blood and repugnant things. And with regards to their relationship between one another, they used to kill and fight one another over the most trivial thing. They neither had a leader nor a state. They were either under the authority of tribal systems or under the authority of the Persians and the Romans. The powerful used to encroach upon [the rights of the weak], and an oppressor used to transgress the limits, and no one stopped him. This was the state of affairs in Jaahiliyyah (The Pre-Islamic Period of Ignorance).

They were upon ignorance in all aspects [of life] and the greatest of that [ignorance] was related to worship and creed. They believed in in Shirk, rejected the [Resurrection] and the Divine Message. [Allaah informed us that] they used to say: [مَا أَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَلَىٰ بَشَرٍ مِنْ شَيْءٍ – Nothing did Allaah send down to any human being (by revelation) 6:91]

This was their state of affairs in Jaahiliyyah [The Pre-Islamic Period of Ignorance]; then, Allaah [Glorified be He and free is He from all imperfections] sent Muhammad [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] with the Guidance and the Religion of Truth. Allaah stated:

[هُوَ الَّذِي أَرْسَلَ رَسُولَهُ بِالْهُدَىٰ وَدِينِ الْحَقِّ َ – It is He Who has sent His Messenger (Muhammad) with Al Hudaa (the Guidance) and Deenul Haqq (the religion of truth -Islaam) 9:33]

‘Hudaa’ is beneficial knowledge and ‘Deenul Haqq’ is righteous action. Allaah (Glorified be He and free is He from all imperfections] sent His Prophet [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] with beneficial knowledge and righteous action, so that pre-Islamic ignorance ceased to exist for ever and knowledge and guidance appeared.

The ‘Jaahiliyyah Aamma’ [The Pre-Islamic ignorance that was widespread in the world and touched every aspect of life] has ceased to exist; but it remains amongst some people or some of the tribes, or in some of the lands. This is Jaahiliyyah Juz’iy [partial Pre-Islamic Ignorance]. As for the ‘Jahiliyyah Aamma’, this has ceased to exist after the advent of the Messenger [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam], but some characteristics of Pre-Islamic ignorance remains with some of the people due to statement of the Prophet [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam], ‘’Among my people there are four characteristics belonging to pre-Islamic period which they do not abandon: boasting of high rank, reviling other peoples’ genealogies, seeking rain by stars, and wailing (i.e. for the dead).’’ [reported by Muslim].” This remains, but it is an aspect of Jaahiliyyah. As for the Jaahiliyyah Aamma, it has ceased to exist. Therefore, it is not permissible to say that the people are in Jaahiliyyah (Pre-Islamic ignorance).

Some [people] say: ‘’ [The people] are in a state of Pre-Islamic ignorance that is more severe than the one before the advent of the Prophet [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam].’’ The meaning of this [statement of theirs] is a denial of what the Messenger [sallal-laahu-layhi-wasallam] brought – a denial of the Qur’aan, the Sunnah of the Prophet and the abundant knowledge within our hands. Its meaning is that we are in Jaahiliyyah [Pre-islamic ignorance]. This is a mistake, the people are not in Jaahiliyyah, but there remains some of the characteristics of Jaahiliyyah in some individuals- in some nations and tribes; but this is a specific Jaahiliyyah. Therefore, it is obligatory to be acquainted with this affair.

His [Hudhaifah’s] statement, ‘’We were in a state of ignorance and evil.’’

What is Evil? Evil is that which the people were upon- shirk, worship of images, eating haraam and other evil deeds before the advent of the Prophet [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam]. These were the evil deeds, but Allaah brought about good [through Islam].  Hudhaifah [radiyallaahu-anhu] said, ‘’And then Allaah brought us this good [time through Islam].’’ This is an acknowledgement of Allaah’s grace, for indeed good [only] comes from Allaah [The Exalted] and He is The One Who guided us. We cannot recognize Good [solely] through our intellects and the knowledge we possess; rather we come to know of it by way of the revelation given to the Messenger [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam]- the Magnificent Qur’aan and the [authentic] Prophetic Sunnah.

The truth is not known through the intellects or habits of [the people], or through blind following and opinions; rather it is known through the revelation sent down by Allaah [The Mighty and Majestic]-the revelation that was communicated through the tongue of His Messenger [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam]. Therefore, this is a rebuttal against those who say that the people are free to hold onto their views and everyone can say what he wants. We say, ‘’No, the people are the slaves of Allaah and their intellects and views are deficient. They must return to the revelation in order to know the truth and reject falsehood.’’

And his (Hudhaifah’s) statement: ‘’And then Allaah brought us this good (time through Islam).’’

And what is ‘Good’? It is Islaam, because of the guidance it contains, [sound] knowledge and the absence of doubts that have pervaded the minds of many people. Allaah brought about this Great Good, [and] this is an acknowledgement of Allaah’s blessing, because blessings only come to us from Him [Glorified and Exalted be He]. Indeed, Allaah did not leave us to our intellects and views; rather Allaah is the One Who shows us good and guides us towards it. Allaah [The Exalted] said to His Prophet [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam]: [قُلْ  إِنْ ضَلَلْتُ فَإِنَّمَا أَضِلُّ عَلَىٰ نَفْسِي ۖ وَإِنِ اهْتَدَيْتُ فَبِمَا يُوحِي إِلَيَّ رَبِّي ۚ إِنَّهُ سَمِيعٌ قَرِيبٌ -Say: If (even) I go astray, I shall stray only to my own loss. But if I remain guided, it is because of the Revelation of my Lord to me. Truly, He is All-Hearer, Ever Near (to all things) 34:50]

He (Hudhaifah) said: ‘’Is there any evil time after this good one?’’  This is evidence that a Muslim is not safe from trials and tribulations even if he is has knowledge, righteous action and correct creed. Indeed, he will not be safe from the callers to misguidance and evil, and for that reason Hudhaifah asked the Messenger of Allaah [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam], saying: ‘’Is there any evil time after this good one?’’

This is evidence that evil will appear after good, and these are the trials and tests Allaah will allow to appear amongst the people. Indeed they [the people] will not continue to be upon one state; rather they will face changing circumstances. The human being will not be safe from trials and doubts; he will not be safe from the callers to misguidance even if he is upon good, upon a correct creed and the correct Religion. That is why Hudhaifah asked: ‘’Is there any evil time after this good one?’’ He [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] said,” Yes.” This is Khabar [information] from the Messenger [Sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] that evil will occur after the good Muhammad [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] came with.  This [trial, test, etc] took place during the latter part of the era of the Sahaabah.

Trials and evil have emerged from the misguided sects, such as the Qadariyyah, the Shia, the Murji’ah, the Jahmiyyah and other than them. This took place during the latter part of the era of the Sahaabah [radiyallaahu anhum]. However, as long as the Qur’aan and the authentic Sunnah are present, then indeed this evil will be repelled if the Scholars convey the Qur’aan and the Sunnah and clarify these trials and evils for the people. Therefore, the cure is present -all praise and thanks be to Allaah-and evil will be repelled.

[Hudhaifah] said, ‘’Will there be a good time again after that evil time?’’ He [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] said, ‘Yes.’

In this is evidence that evil will not be continuous, and that the Muslim should wait for solace from Allaah [Glorified and Exalted be He]. Allaah [The Mighty and Majestic] said:

فَإِنَّ مَعَ الْعُسْرِ يُسْرًا

إِنَّ مَعَ الْعُسْرِ يُسْرًا

”So verily, with the hardship, there is relief. Verily, with the hardship, there is relief (i.e. there is one hardship with two reliefs, so one hardship cannot overcome two reliefs).’’94:5-6

Solace must come. He [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] said: ”Know that along with patience is assistance, along with distress is solace, and along with every hardship is relief.’’ [Reported by Ahmad]

[A person] should not lose hope when trials and evil increases. Indeed, he should be in a state of tranquillity and should encourage others to be in a state of tranquillity when trials occur, and he should say: ‘’All praise and thanks be to Allaah, we are upon guidance and a clear Religion. Solace is close by and evil will cease to exist by the permission of Allaah’’ This is what is incumbent upon THE PEOPLE OF GOOD AND THE SCHOLARS-that they have tranquillity and [urge] the people to be in a state of tranquillity; because this (EVIL) is something that will cease to exist by the permission of Allaah and solace will come after it.

It is not permissible for a person to say: ‘’The people are destroyed.’’ This is not permissible; rather (a person) should [urge] the people to be in a state of tranquillity, firm upon good and expectant of assistance, for indeed the good end is for the people of piety. Therefore, no matter how great the evil and trial is, it will cease to exist. He [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] said: ‘’A group of my followers will remain manifest upon the truth. They will neither be harmed by those who forsake them nor by those who oppose them till Allaah’s command comes [i.e. the day of Judgement].’’ [Bukhari and Muslim]

Islaam will not cease to continue and all praise and thanks be to Allaah. The Religion and the Qur’aan will not cease to exist until that appointed time which the Prophet [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] has informed us, that at the end of time the Qur’aan will be taken away from the hearts of men and from the Masaahif [i.e. the copies of the Qur’aan].  The Qur’aan will not remain within the hands of the people [at that time]; but this will be at the time of the destruction of the world [i.e. when the day of judgement is very close]. [However], good will continue to exist whilst the Qur’an, the Sunnah and the Qiblah are present, even though there is one who is led away from it and becomes misguided; and even though there is one who deviates from it and becomes deviated, as the saying goes: ‘’Fitnah has its victims.’’ It takes away the one who goes with it; but the people of Eemaan will remain even if they are small in number. Even if there is one who goes along with the Fitnah, and the one who goes astray and the one who comes along, the truth and its people will remain, and all praise and thanks be to Allaah. The truth is present, as Allaah said:

[إِنَّا نَحْنُ نَزَّلْنَا الذِّكْرَ وَإِنَّا لَهُ لَحَافِظُونَ – Verily We: It is We Who have sent down the Dhikr (i.e. the Qur’an) and surely, We will guard it (from corruption) 15:9]

A person is neither to lose hope nor despair. He should not to make the people lose hope of a return to goodness. He should not make the people lose hope regarding [the fact] that truth will prevail, and falsehood will be repelled; because Allaah [Glorified and Exalted be He] has made that promise and He does not fail to fulfil His promise. Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [rahimahullaah] said: ‘’The Religion is aided when put to the test; therefore, do not be amazed for this is the way of Ar-Rahmaan (The Most Merciful).’’

Allaah said:

‘’And so are the days (good and not so good), We give to men by turns, that Allaah may test those who believe, and that He may take martyrs from among you. And Allaah likes not the Zaalimoon (polytheists and wrong doers). And that Allaah may test (or purify) the believers (from sins) and destroy the disbelievers’’ 3:140-141

This is the wisdom behind the occurrence of trials and tribulations, so that the believers are purified, and so that they exercise patience, become firm upon the truth and are cautioned for their mistakes, and in order that they may repent to Allaah [The Mighty and Majestic] and [so that] the disbelievers in Allaah are destroyed. Therefore, [trials and tribulations] is purification for the believers and destruction for the kuffaar and all praise and thanks be to Allaah. It is obligated on the Muslim that he looks at [the affairs] with optimism-neither looks at history and the state of affairs with pessimism and hopelessness nor make the people lose hope. It has been reported in a hadeeth: ‘’Whoever says, ‘the people are ruined, then he himself is ruined.’’’ [Muslim] Therefore, a person should neither lose hope in Allaah’s Mercy nor does he make people lose hope that Allaah will bring about solace.

[Hudhaifah] said: ‘’Will there be a good time again after that evil time?’’ He [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] said, ‘’Yes, but therein will be Da’khan (a hidden evil).’’ I asked, ‘’What will be the evil hidden therein?’’ He said, ‘’ [That time will witness the rise of] the people who will follow ways other than mine and seek guidance other than mine. You will know [their] good points as well as [their] bad points.’’

In this is evidence that one should expect solace and should not despair of Allaah’s Mercy. Indeed, good will come after evil. The Muslim should neither despair nor lose hope; [rather] he has to wait for Allaah’s Solace. However, this has to be accompanied by what one is able to perform of actions, statements, spreading knowledge, calling to Allaah, telling the people to have certainty [in the affairs of the Religion] and keeping them away from despair and lack of hope.

He [the pessimist] says: Islaam and the Muslims have vanished, the affair has ended, and the Religion has been annihilated…..and so forth….. These are maqaalaat sayyiah [evil statements].

And regarding his (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) statement: ‘’But therein will be a hidden evil’’-Meaning: There will be something of alteration [i.e. things that are not in conformity with the Sunnah and guidance of the Messenger] during that good time. It is a [good time] but there would be something of alteration in it. This is information given by the [truthful one, the one who is believed- sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam], and indeed good has occurred along with something of alterations.

[Hudhaifah] said, ‘’What will be the evil hidden therein?’’ Subhaanallaah! This man is precise [in the manner] he presents his questions, and Allaah made him utter that which is of benefit and education for the ummah. He [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] said: ”(that time will witness the rise of) people who will follow ways other than mine and they will seek guidance other than mine.’’ Meaning: They will have affairs that are not (in conformity with the Sunnah and guidance of the Messenger Muhammad). They are Muslims and believers who possess good, but they will (also) have something of those things that are not (in conformity with the guidance of the Messenger), which will not terminate their Eemaan and religion; but it will make it deficient. Likewise, there will be deficiency in the worldly affairs. And it [has been reported in another] hadith: ‘’No time will come upon you but the time following it will be worse than it, till you meet your lord.’’ So, they will have some things that are in (opposition to the Sunnah and the guidance of the Messenger-sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) and they will seek guidance other than that of Prophet [sallal-laahu alayhi-wasallam]. They will initiate things in opposition to the Sunnah, however it will not be a complete opposition; rather it will be a specific type of opposition. In this is a warning against opposing [the Sunnah] even if that is little.

In this is a warning against seeking guidance other than that of the Prophet [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] even if that is little; because the Prophet [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] referred to it as Dakhan- Meaning: ‘Deficiency and Harm.’ And in this is evidence that the judgment of disbelief is not passed on the Muslim as long as he does not commit Major shirk or apostates from Islaam through one of the nullifiers of Islaam. [Ref 2] However, he may have some affairs of deviation and some affairs that are not in accordance with the (Sunnah). This either makes him one who is mistaken and misguided or a sinner due to committing a sin which does not expel him from the fold of Islaam. So, in this is a fundamental principle from the fundamental principles of Aqeedah, and that is the judgment of disbelief is not passed on the one who commits a major sin; rather this is called Dakhan (hidden evil) and Naqsan (deficiency) in Religion, or sin; but it is not called disbelief and apostasy from the Religion as the Khawaarij and Mutazilah say.

He [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] said [to Hudhaifah]: ‘’You will know (their) good points as well as (their) bad points.” You will know the good points of these people and this is evidence that they will possess good. And you will know their bad points, and this is evidence that they will have something of evil, which will be in opposition to the guidance of the Messenger [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam]. They will possess both good and evil.

The Messenger [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] referred to [that particular period] with good and attested to it, and this is evidence [showing that] that [particular period] is good even if there is a hidden evil in it. And in this is proof of the Creed/Methodology of Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jamaa’ah regarding the fact that not every matter that is in opposition to the Prophet’s guidance is disbelief; rather such (opposition) may be an error, or misguidance or deficiency in Eemaan, and it can also be called evil. There is a differentiation regarding evil, and from that is ‘Absolute Evil’, ‘partial evil’ and evil that is compared [with other evil things]. Therefore, we must name the things with their appropriate names.

[Hudhaifah] asked: ‘’will there be a bad time after this good one?’’ He (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) said: ‘Yes’

This is the third time when evil will occur, but it will be greater than the first time. In the first evil (period), the people possessed both good and evil. However, these ones (a particular type of people who will be present during the third occurrence of evil) will be callers to the gates of hell fire. They do not say to the people, ‘’Come to the hell fire!!’’; [rather] they say: ‘’Come towards progression and civilization (as opposed to the old lifestyles), towards development and conformity with the nations. Do not remain old fashioned and rigid.’’ The meaning of this is: Abandon your religion and go along with the people.

These (people) are callers to the gates of hell fire-they call (the Muslims) to abandon their religion and affiliate themselves to the disbelievers. This is the call to the hell fire because the hell fire is a promise for the disbelievers. They call the people to that which the people of hell fire are upon – the disbelievers, the idolaters and the atheists. How numerous are these callers in the Islamic World today! Laa Hawla Walaa Quwwata Illaa Billaah!

Therefore, we must issue severe warning against them. Why? Because they call us to the hell fire, and Allaah [The Mighty and Majestic] said about the disbelievers: [أُولَٰئِكَ يَدْعُونَ إِلَى النَّارِ ۖ وَاللَّهُ يَدْعُو إِلَى الْجَنَّةِ وَالْمَغْفِرَةِ بِإِذْنِهِ -Those (Al-Mushrikoon) invite you to the fire, but Allaah invites (you) to Paradise and Forgiveness by His Leave’’ [2:221]

And He (Glorified and Exalted Be He) said about shaytaan: [إِنَّمَا يَدْعُو حِزْبَهُ لِيَكُونُوا مِنْ أَصْحَابِ السَّعِيرِ]- ‘’He only invites his Hizb (followers) that they may become the dwellers of the fire. 35:6]

And the believer amongst the people of fir-awn said: [وَيَا قَوْمِ مَا لِي أَدْعُوكُمْ إِلَى النَّجَاةِ وَتَدْعُونَنِي إِلَى النَّارِ -And O my people! How is it that I call you to salvation while you call me to the fire’’ [40:41]

And how did he call them to the Paradise and how did they call him to the fire?

‘’You invite me to disbelieve in Allaah and to join partners in worship with Him of which I have no knowledge; and I call you to the All-Mighty, the Oft-Forgiving!’’ [40:42]

This is the difference between the callers to good and the callers to evil. Indeed, the callers to good invite to [the path of] Allaah-to His Religion and Paradise; and the callers to evil invite to the hell fire.

[The callers to evil] do not say to the people, ‘’Come to the fire!!’’ They say, ‘’Come to Paradise, these are the actions of the people of Paradise, this is good, this is development, this is rectification, this is and this is….’’ and they beautify that for the people. Therefore, the Muslims must be cautious of these people. Indeed, they have become numerous in this era, and Allaah knows best whether they will increase in the future.

They may be facilitated with tools [of misguidance] which were not possessed by the previous callers to misguidance and are given firm support through such (tools), and this misguidance will rapidly reach the people. The suggestion of the seducer and the falsifier will be adorned and made to appear as something good to the people in any place, whilst it is something evil. This is the height of fitnah.

‘’Whosoever responds to their call will be thrown into the fire. ‘’WHOEVER RESPONDS TO THEM’’: by complying, believing and assisting them, will be thrown into the fire. As for those who does not comply with them, opposes and openly rejects what they are upon, then indeed they will not harm him. Allaah said in the Qur’aan:

وَأَنَّ هَٰذَا صِرَاطِي مُسْتَقِيمًا فَاتَّبِعُوهُ ۖ وَلَا تَتَّبِعُوا السُّبُلَ فَتَفَرَّقَ بِكُمْ عَنْ سَبِيلِهِ ۚ ذَٰلِكُمْ وَصَّاكُمْ بِهِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ

‘’And verily this is My Straight Path, so follow it, and follow not (other) paths, for they will separate you away from His Path. This He has ordained for you that you may become Muttaqoon (pious)’’ [6:153]

The Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) whilst explaining this ayah drew a straight line and said, ‘’this is the path of Allaah.” Then he drew lines to the left and right (of this straight line) and said, ‘’ these are the other paths, and on every path is a devil calling the people to it’’ (Ahmad 1/435)

This is a description of the callers to misguidance, their methodologies and objectives. It has been thoroughly illustrated for us that indeed whatever opposes the Straight Path is a path leading to Jahannam, and whoever abandons the Straight Path is heading towards the Jahannam, even if he regards himself civilized, progressive and open minded.

[Hudhaifah] said: ‘’O Messenger of Allaah! Describe them for us.’’ Look at these amazing questions from this honourable companion?! The Messenger of Allaah [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] paused, but he (still) asked him, and the Messenger [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] answered him in detail and with clarity. He [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] said, ‘’They will be a people having the same complexion as ours and will speak our language.’’ This is a Calamity!! Indeed, they are close to you; they are from our community and country. Had they been foreigners; had they been from America or other than it, the affair would have been easy, however, the problem is that they are the son of so and so, and it may be that they say, ‘’I am a scholar; I have with me shahaadaat ilmiyyah (i.e. proofs or certificates that proves that I am a carrier of knowledge) and I am, and I am…. They are from us and they speak with our tongue. They are Arabs like us; rather they possess eloquence. When they write, deliver a speech or a lecture, they speak with our tongue just as Allah said concerning the hypocrites: [وَإِنْ يَقُولُوا تَسْمَعْ لِقَوْلِهِمْ- And when they speak, you listen to their words. [63:4]

They possess eloquence that overwhelms the listener. The listener listens to them because of their eloquent speech. The Prophet [sallal-laahu alayhi wasallam] said: ‘’Indeed some eloquent speech has the influence of magic’’ [i.e. some people refuse to do something and then a good eloquent speaker addresses them and then they agree to do that very thing after his speech] [Bukhari Vol 7. Hadith No: 5146].

They speak with our tongue (i.e. the Arabic tongue). Had they spoken with a foreign language or the language of the Persians, there would not have been inclination towards them, but the problem is that when they speak with eloquent speech, the people are lured towards them. This is the height of fitnah.

Hudhaifah said: “O Messenger of Allaah, what do you suggest if I happen to live in that time? (i.e. the time of the callers to the gates of hell) He said: You should stick to the Jamaa’ah (the main body of the Muslims) and their leader.’’

In this is a clarification regarding what the Muslim must do when these trials occur and the evils by way of which people are called to deviation, decadence, agreement with the disbelievers and abandonment of Islaam and its rulings. Indeed, the Muslim is not deceived by them, rather he stays with the Jamaa’ah of the Muslims. He sticks to the Jamaa’ah of the Muslims and does not separate from them- neither by way of opinions and beliefs nor statements. He is not deceived by speech and what is falsely made to seem desirable; rather he looks at what the Muslims [who are holding onto Qur’aan, the authentic sunnah and example of the sahaabah] are upon. The Prophet [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] said: ‘’My ummah will not agree upon misguidance.’’ And he [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] said: ‘’It is obligated on you to adhere to the Jamaa’ah, for indeed the Hand of Allaah is over the Jamaa’ah.’’ [Tirmidhee] So be with the Jamaa’ah of the Muslims.

The Muslims cannot be a Jamaaa’h except if they have a ruler who is obeyed. There is no Jamaa’ah except with a leader and there is no leader except that he is to be listened to and obeyed [in good]. And due to this Allaah said: [يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا أَطِيعُوا اللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُوا الرَّسُولَ وَأُولِي الْأَمْرِ مِنْكُمْ – O you who believe! Obey Allaah and obey the Messenger and those of you (Muslims) who are in authority’’ [4:59]

And Allaah said:

When there comes to them some matter touching (public) safety or fear, they make it known (among the people), if only they had referred it to the Messenger or to those charged with authority among them, the proper investigators would have understood it from them (directly). Had it not been for the Grace and Mercy of Allâh upon you, you would have followed Shaitân (Satan), save a few of you.’’ [4:83]

Therefore, in this is evidence regarding the means to safety from trials, and that is to adhere to the Jamaa’ah of the Muslims and their leader. This is safety by the permission of Allaah. As for the one who isolates [himself] from the Jamaa’ah of the Muslims [i.e. from the true followers of the Qur’aan the authentic sunnah and understanding of the companions] and follows the callers to misguidance, then indeed he will be destroyed alongside those who will be destroyed. There is a guaranteed safety in adhering to Jamaa’ah of the Muslims and their leader. Allaah said:

And whoever contradicts and opposes the Messenger (Muhammad (sallallaahu alayhi wasallam)) after the right path has been shown clearly to him and follows other than the believers’ way (i.e. the way of the companions). We shall keep him in the path he has chosen and burn him in Hell – what an evil destination.’’ [4:115]

And he [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] said: ‘’It is obligated on you to adhere to the Jamaa’ah, for indeed the Hand of Allaah is over the Jamaa-ah. And whoever isolates himself from the Jamaa’ah will be isolated in the fire’’ And he [alayhis-salaatu-wassalaam] said: ‘’I enjoin upon you to have fear of Allaah, and to listen and obey even if a slave is placed in charge over your affairs. For indeed whosoever lives long amongst you will see a lot of differences, so stick to my sunnah and the sunnah of the rightly guided khulafaa after me.’’

Therefore, whoever wants to save himself during these trials and evils, then he should not move away from what the Muslims and their leader are holding onto [i.e. the understanding of the Sahaabah]; rather he must exercise patience along with them. And even if he is afflicted with difficulties, he still exercises patience until Allaah [The Mighty and Majestic] brings about Solace. This is the path to safety. He [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] said: ‘’Adhere to the Jamaa’ah of the Muslims [i.e. my way and that of the companions] and their leader’’

[Hudhaifah] said: ‘’What if they have no (such thing as the) main body and have no leader?’’ This honourable Sahaabi does not stop asking the Messenger [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] questions that contain great benefits for the ummah. He [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] replied: ‘’Separate yourself from all these factions though you may have to eat the roots of trees (in a jungle) until death comes to you and you are in this state.’’ In this is evidence [that one is to abandon] all the groups that are in opposition to that which the Messenger [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] came with, and that which the Salaf of this ummah and their Imaams were upon, and that which the Jamaa’ah of the Muslims are upon.

When the Jamaa-ah of the Muslims is no longer [present] wa-laa-hawla-walaa-quwwata-illaa-billaah, then what should the Muslim do? He should isolate himself from all these sects, because they are all deviated sects and callers to the gates of hell fire. He should adhere to the Jamaa’ah of the Muslims if he finds them, and if not, then isolate yourself even if you are alone. Be firm upon the truth even if you are alone, and that is why it is said, ”The Jamaa’ah is the one upon the truth even if he is alone”. This is the Jamaa’ah, and the Jamaa’ah is not the numerous groups; rather it the one upon the truth, ‘’though you may have to eat the roots of trees (in a jungle) until death comes to you and you are in this state.’’

In this is evidence that what is given consideration are one’s FINAL ACTIONS. Indeed, the one who isolates himself from trials, stays firm upon the truth and exercises patience when facing trials until death comes to him in this state, then indeed he will be from the people of Paradise [InShaaAllaah]. And the one upon whom death comes to whilst he has changed and substituted (the truth, his religion etc) and followed the callers to misguidance, then indeed he will be from the people of hell fire [i.e. if he leaves the fold of Islaam; but if he dies upon other than major shirk or kufr, he is left under the will of Allaah, who will either punish or forgive him].

Conclusion:

These are the few statements [mentioned] regarding this tremendous hadith. It clarifies the dangers that are an obstacle to the ummah in their [path, religion]. In it is clarification regarding what is binding upon a Muslim during trials and that which is obligated on him in relation to adhering to the Jamaa’ah of the Muslims and their Leader, the Salaf of this ummah and their Imaams.  All praise and thanks be to Allaah, Lord of the Aalameen, and may Allaah’s peace and blessings be upon our Prophet [Muhammad], his family and all his companions. [Source: An Excerpt From Booklet published by Daar Imaam Ahmad 1426/2005. Ref 2: Judgement on Apostasy:

Shaykh Salih al-Fawzaan On Those Who Ought to Pronounce Takfir and Establish the Hadd Punishment: [See article ID: MNJ090004 at salafipublications.com

Question: O Respected Shaykh, who is the murtadd (apostate)? We hope for you to define it in a clear manner, for sometimes the judgement of apostasy can be made upon a person while there is some doubt that he had.

Shaykh Salih al-Fawzaan: The judgement of apostasy and expelling someone from the religion is only appropriate for the people of knowledge who are firmly grounded in knowledge, and they are the judges in the various Sharee’ah law courts, and those who are able of giving legal verdicts. And this is just like the other matters, and it is not the right of every person, or from the right of those who are learning, or those who ascribe themselves to knowledge, but who have deficiency in understanding. It is not appropriate for them to make judgements of apostasy (upon others). Since, mischief will arise from this, and sometimes a Muslim might be judged as an apostate, but he is not actually so. And the takfir of a Muslim who has not committed one of the nullifications of Islaam contains great danger. Whoever says to his brother O Kaafir or O Faasiq, and he is not like that, then the words will fall back upon the one who said them. Hence, the ones who actually judge with apostasy are the legislative judges and those who are able and fit for giving legal verdicts. And as for those who enforce the judgements they are the leaders of the Muslims (wullaat al-amr). As for whatever is other than this, then it is mere confusion.

Question: Some of the students of knowledge are a bit lax towards applying the word of apostasy (riddah) to a Muslim, and this person might sometimes be asked by the Muslims to carry out the hadd punishment for apostasy when the Sultaan does not carry it out upon the one they consider deserves it, the one who has been judged with apostasy.

Shaykh Salih al-Fawzaan: Meting out the punishments is only appropriate for the leader of the Muslims and it is not for every person to establish the punishment, since confusion, and corruption necessarily follows from this, and also the cutting off of the society, tribulations and provocations occur. Establishing the punishments is appropriate (i.e. befits only) to the Muslim leader. The Prophet (sallallaahu alaihi wasallam) said, pardon each other for the punishments that are between you, but when the execution of the punishment reaches the [authority of the] Sultaan, then Allaah curses both the one who seeks intercession and the one who grants the intercession [i.e. to revoke the punishment]. And from the responsibilities of the Sultaan in Islaam, and from those matters that befit him is the establishment of the punishments after they have been established legislatively, via the Sharee’ah law courts, upon the one who fell into the crime for which the legislator has designated a specific punishment, such as for stealing. So, what has been said is that establishing the punishments (i.e. meting them out) is from the rights of the Sultaan, and when the Muslims do not have a Sultaan amongst them, then they should just suffice with commanding the good and forbidding the evil, and calling to Allaah, the Might and Majestic, with wisdom, good admonition and arguing with that which is best. And it is not permissible for individuals (in the society) to establish the hudood, since that, as we have mentioned, will bring about chaos, and also provocations, and tribulations will arise, and this contains greater corruption than it contains rectification. And from amongst the Sharee’ah principles that are submitted to is, Repelling the harmful things takes precedence over bringing about the beneficial things.

[6] Some Terms Whose True Reality Is Concealed By Callers to False Unity In Their Desperate Attempts to Legitimise The Deviations of The Deviant Sects

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

When the Salafiyyoon refute all the people of Bidah and refuse to co-operate with them, the callers to false unity accuse them of causing disunity and sectarianism in their desperate attempts to conceal the true reality of this term when applied in its right context. Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [rahimahullaah] said:  ‘’When a proof that supports the truth is manifested and the one who wants to repel it finds no way of doing so, he refrains from mentioning it and thus becomes a silent devil, and sometimes he distorts it. Distortion is of two types: Distorting words and distorting meanings. Distorting words is when one utters a word in a context in which it does not establish the truth – either adding to the word or omitting something from it, or substituting it with something else- to the extent that the listener is made to believe something, whilst something else is intended by it, just as the Yahood  [i.e. those Yahood who disbelieved in the Prophet & hated him] used to distort words when giving Salaam to the Prophet [i.e. saying As-Saamu Alayka (death be upon you), instead of saying Assalaamu alaykum)]. This is one type of distortion.

The second type of distortion is related to meanings – distorting the wording; giving it an interpretation that is not intended by the one who uttered it and pretending not to know its unintended meaning; or dropping other meanings intended by it etc. Allaah [The Most High] said: [وَإِن تَلۡوُ ۥۤاْ أَوۡ تُعۡرِضُواْ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ بِمَا تَعۡمَلُونَ خَبِيرً۬ا – and if you distort your witness or refuse to give it, verily, Allah is Ever Well-Acquainted with what you do].

And when it is the case that a witness is required to bear witness based on what the affair should be [i.e. the complete truth], therefore neither should he hide nor change it. Turning away from the testimony is tantamount to concealment, and distortion is tantamount to alteration and substitution. Therefore, contemplate on this ayah and the treasures of knowledge it contains. The Eemaan of a person cannot be complete, except by way of accepting the texts of the sharee’ah and calling the people to them – neither turning away from them at times nor distorting them at other times. The Root Cause of Sectarianism and Splitting

Shaikh Saaleh Al-Fawzaan (may Allaah preserve him) stated:

The cause of the differing that take place between the callers is the differing in methodologies.  And had the callers (may Allaah guide them and grant them success) followed a singular methodology- the methodology of the Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam; that which the Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-sallam) and his companions were upon- then these differences would not have occurred.

Therefore, it is obligatory upon all the callers to make their methodology one–upon the Book of Allaah and the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allaah (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam); and that their call is (carried out) for the sake of Allaah and to make the word of Allaah uppermost.  Their call should not be for the sake of desires, raising individuals or parties; rather their call should be sincerely for Allaah’s Face-making Allaah’s word uppermost; following the Messenger of Allaah (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) and to aid His Religion.  (So) by way of this the differing will cease. Shaikh Zaid Ibn Hadee al Madkhalee (rahimahullaah) said:

The Mubtadi [i.e. the one who innovates that which is not from the religion and thus is labelled with the term ‘innovator in religion’ after the proofs have been established against him] is the cause for the splitting [in the Ummah]. That is because splitting is connected to innovation and unity (upon the sound creed and methodology of the Salaf) is connected to the Sunnah.  The obligation of refuting the Mukhaalif (the opposer of the truth) is not lifted from the scholar due to anticipation of harm, unless it is harm he is not able to bear.  Then (in this case), Allah does not burden a soul beyond what it can bear.  The earth is not devoid of people of knowledge who will carry out refutation against the Mubtadi and the Mukhaalif. [47] Excerpts from Shaikh Rabee’s Book Titled ‘Marhaban Yaa Taalibal Ilm’ – [The Messenger Warned Against The Anti-Christ And The Leaders of Misguidance In The Ummah]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

It is not permissible to call them [genuine, upright etc] scholars, because the [genuine, upright] scholars in the Islamic legislation are those who possess [sound] understanding of Allaah’s religion. [The Messenger (sallal laahu alayhi wasallam)] said: “If Allaah wishes good for a [person], He grants [the person] understanding in the religion.” Allaah grants him [sound] understanding in affairs of Aqeedah, Ibaadaat, dealings, Siyaasah and other affairs that are important to Islaam and [important] for the Muslims in their religious and worldly affairs- beneficial to their religious and worldly affairs and preserves their honour and nobility. As for the ignoramuses [i.e. misguided figureheads, bogus scholars, deviated sects and personalities etc], they lead the people to Bidah and misguidance – towards that which distances the people from the [path, pleasure] of Allaah and leads them to the fire of hell.

[Once] the Messenger of Allaah drew a straight line [with his hand in the sand] and said, ‘’This is Allaah’s straight path’’, then he drew lines to the right and left of that line and said, ‘’These are the other paths, on each path there is a devil who calls to it’’, then he recited the statement of Allaah: [وَأَنَّ هَـذَا صِرَطِي مُسْتَقِيمًا فَاتَّبِعُوهُ وَلاَ تَتَّبِعُواْ السُّبُلَ فَتَفَرَّقَ بِكُمْ عَن سَبِيلِهِ And verily, this is my Straight Path, so follow it, and follow not (other) paths, for they will separate you away from His Path] [Surah Al-An’aam Aayah 153]

The Messenger [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam also ] said, ‘’And what I fear for my Ummah is the leaders of misguidance.’’ [Saheeh al-Jaami 1773]

They [i.e. the misguided figureheads, callers to Bidah, Shirk, Misguidance etc] are [also] the ones whom Allaah’s Messenger [warned against] when he warned the Ummah about the Fitna of the Anti-Christ [i.e. Dajjaal]! He [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] said that the Dajjaal will stay on the earth for forty days- a day like a year, a day like a month, a day like a week and the rest of the days like the normal days of the world. He will command the sky to rain and it will rain. He will command the earth to grow vegetation and it will grow; so, the ignorant people will consider him a deity and believe that he is their lord. Then the Messenger said [i.e. after warning and informing us about the Fitna of the anti-Christ], ‘’It is other than Dajjaal [i.e. Anti-Christ] that I fear more for you.’’ [Saheeh Muslim 2937] [Ref 1]

This is because the word ‘Kaafir’ will be written on the Dajjaal’s forehead and everyone -both the literate and illiterate believer- will be able to read it. It will be a clear sign that he is a Kaafir, as opposed to that one who deceitfully uses the name of Islaam and carries Islamic slogans [i.e. whilst calling to deviation]. This one is more harmful. [Ref 2]

Dajjaal will live in this Ummah for forty days – a day like a year, a day like a month, a day like a week and his remaining days will be like the normal days of the world; but as for the [misguided figureheads] – since the departure of the first three righteous generations of Muslims – they have swayed many people in the Ummah and lead them to [practices, views, beliefs, methodologies etc] that are tantamount to ignorance and misguidance. The deviated sects that have been threatened with entry into the hell fire emerged at the hands of these liars and ignorant [figureheads], whose danger and evil the Messenger feared for his ummah. He [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] warned against their evil just as he warned [us] against Dajjaal [Anti-Christ], as he [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] said: ‘’It is other than Dajjaal I fear more for you.’’

These liars [i.e. misguided figureheads, callers to bidah, shirk, false views and methodologies etc] bring destruction to the Ummah and place them in a state of ignominy in this worldly life and next life. So, this shows [us] the danger of ignorance and the ignoramuses, and the [lofty] station of knowledge and the [upright] scholars. [Ref 3]
