One of The Corrupt Goals Behind The Attention Given to Artefacts- By Al-Allaamah Rabee Bin Haadee

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Al-Allaamah Rabee Bin Haadee al-Madkhalee [may Allaah preserve him] stated:

The attention given to artefacts (or relics) – in this era – in the manner pursued by the Archaeologists was not known during the era of the Prophet’s companions [may Allaah be pleased with them] and the pious predecessors [may Allaah have mercy upon them]; but rather the Muslims blindly followed the Europeans and Americans whose greatest goal in studying artefacts (or relics) in the land of the Muslims is to revive (the traits of) pre-Islamic nationalism, such as Pharaonism, (Pan) Babylonianism, Phoenicianism etc. And they succeeded to a great extent in actualizing many of these goals and thus arose – in the Muslim lands – the (traits) of pre-Islamic national pride and taking pride in these nationalisms.

Indeed, I am amazed with the example of yours [i.e. the person the Rabee is refuting] regarding the towns of (Prophet) Saaleh and Ukhdood [ie. the people who tortured the believers mentioned in Surah Al-Burooj], which are places (that earned) Allaah’s anger!! Imaam Al-Bukhaaree [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “Abdullah Bin Muhammad Al-Jufee narrated to us that Abdur Razzaaq narrated to them from Az-Zuhree who narrated from Saalim, who narrated from Ibn Umar [may Allaah be pleased with him and his father], who said, ‘When the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] passed by Al-Hijr, he said, ‘Do not enter the dwelling places of those people who were unjust to themselves unless you enter in a weeping state lest the same calamity as of theirs should befall you’. Then he covered his head and made his speed fast till he crossed the valley”. Yahyah Bin Bukayr narrated to us who said that Maalik narrated to us from Abdullaah Bin Deenaar who reported from Ibn Umar [may Allaah be pleased with him and his father], who said, “Allah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said to his companions who were at Al-Hijr, ‘Do not enter upon these people who are being punished, except in a weeping state, lest the same calamity as of theirs should befall you'”. [Saheeh Al-Bukhaari. Numbers 4419 and 4420]

The two Prophetic reports show the danger of entering the places of those who incurred Allaah’s anger and He destroyed them due to their disbelief, denial of the prophets and what their message. The Prophet did not permit entry into them [i.e. those places] except for one who fears Allaah and fears His punishment, so he enters them when in need whilst he is in a weeping state.

It is feared for the one who enters the dwellings of those who were punished that he would be afflicted with the punishment that afflicted them. It is legislated for the one who approaches those dwellings to go past quickly whilst covering his face to follow the example of Allaah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him]. Do the Muslim possess understanding – and amongst them the Archeologists and those who encourage them – of what is in this Prophetic guidance that came from one who does not speak out of his own desires [I.e. Muhammad -peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him]? Also, Allaah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] legislated for the one who goes past the valleys of Muhassar to hurry because Allaah destroyed the people of the Elephant over there [i.e. the story of the people of the Elephant – Surah Al-Feel].

So, those who excavate the artefacts (relics) of the people of Aad, Thamood, the Ashaab Al-Ukhdood, the pharoanic and Babylonian artieacts (or relics), do they act based on the guidance of Allaah’s Messenger or do they blindly follow the enemies of Allaah who set up partnership of exploration for them from the artefacts (or relics) of the destroyed nations in order to entice (them) to the pride of pre Islamic ignorance. Indeed, I and other than myself have read the numerous boasting of Muslims or those who ascribe to Islam, such as the statement of some of them, “O Misree (i.e. Egyptian)! Be proud of the builders of your glory when people were sleeping”. He boasts about the Pharoanic artefacts (relics) such as the pyramids and other than them. (1)

Why Ponder Upon The Story of The Nations of Old?

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [may Allaah have mercy upon him] stated:

Allaah [The Most High] said: [قَدْ خَلَتْ مِنْ قَبْلِكُمْ سُنَنٌ فَسِيرُوا فِي الْأَرْضِ فَانْظُرُوا كَيْفَ كَانَ عَاقِبَةُ الْمُكَذِّبِينَ – Many similar mishaps [troubles, problems] of life were faced by nations that have passed away before you, so travel through the earth, and see what was the end of those who disbelieved]. [Surah Aal Imraan. Verse 137]

Indeed, there were nations like yourselves before you, so look to their evil end. You have to know that the reason behind their evil end was due to their disbelief in the revelations of Allaah and disbelief in Allaah’s Messengers. They were the forefathers and you are the descendants. The main affair that connects you to each other is your disbelief and the ruling on that disbelief is destruction. (2)

Imaam Muhammad Bin Saaleh Al-Uthaymeen [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “If it is said, ‘What is the benefit in narrating to us the stories of the destroyed nations despite the fact that this Ummah will not be completely destroyed in a manner similar to the destruction of the previous nations before it?'”.

The Answer: Indeed, this has two benefits: The first benefit is a clarification of Allaah’s blessings upon us that the occurrence of a complete destruction is removed from us, and that were it not for Allaah’s Benevolence we would have been deserving of it. Second, the likeness of the punishment they received may occur in the hereafter for the one who did what they did, if punishment was not received in the worldly life. And this may be understood from the statement of Allaah: “Such is the Seizure of your Lord when He seizes the population of towns while they are doing wrong. Verily, His Seizure is painful and severe. Indeed in that (there) is a sure lesson for those who fear the torment of the Hereafter.” So what is apparent from this Aayah is that what is similar to the punishment they received will happen in the Hereafter, and Allaah knows best. Fasting – [The Great Difference Between One Who Embarks Upon Fasting In Ramadan Out of Faith and Seeking Reward and One Who Does So As a Custom or Healthy Interlude]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy
Indeed, we have been put to trial nowadays by way of the pens and keyboards of the journalists! Some of them  speak in the affairs of the religion and most of time they neither provide proof nor explanation from the upright scholars of the Ummah – the scholars of Tawheed and Sunnah. It is very important that one either gives detail from the explanations of the upright scholars or refrain from entering into subject matters of the pure religion. Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “There’s no good thing except that he [i.e. the Messenger (peace and blessing of Allaah be upon him)] has urged the person towards it and there is no evil except that he warned the Ummah against it”. Imaam Muhammad Ibn Saaleh Al-Uthaymeen [may Allaah have mercy upon him] commented on the above statement and stated “This is correct because indeed good is something one seeks to do, therefore he clarified it specifically and urged a person towards it. And regarding evil, we say, ‘There is no evil except that he warned against it’ and he (Shaikhul Islaam) did not say, ‘There’s no evil except he has clarified it (i.e. in detail)’, because there are evil things which he clarified (in detail) and warned against, and there are evil things which he did not clarify (in detail); rather he warned against it in general. For example, fornication, killing a person (i.e. without a justified reason based on the sharee’ah) and what is similar to these deeds are manifest evils, and religious innovation (Bidah) is a manifest evil, but did he mention every Bidah specifically by its description in a text or rather mentioned in general? Answer: They are mentioned in general and warned against. The distinction between (evil) and good is that good is something one seeks to do, therefore it is in need of being clarified specifically – clarify every affair so that we do it, unlike evil because it is something to be abandoned, therefore sometimes it is mentioned in detail and sometimes in general”.(1)

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said,”It is obligated on you to give detail and make a distinction, because unrestricted and general (statements) without clarification has indeed corrupted this existence (i.e. the world), and misguided the intellects and views (of the people) in every era”. Al-Allaamah Saaleh Al-Fawzaan [may Allaah preserve him] commented on this statement and stated, “There has to be detail explanation. The one who is not proficient in giving detail should keep quiet because benefit is not acquired from his speech. And every time error occurs, its cause is due to an absence of detail explanation regarding truth and falsehood. There has to be detail explanation and distinction and not to mix up [affairs]. Indeed, it may be that there is something of truth and falsehood in an opponent’s statement, so all of it is neither deemed to be false nor truth; rather there has to be a distinction between its truth and falsehood. All of it is neither rejected nor accepted; rather a distinction is made regarding the truth and what is correct and the falsehood and error in it. And if you are not proficient in giving detail, then you should not enter into this field”. (2)

The clarification intended in this short article is regarding the statement of a Turkish journalist who stated regarding fasting in Ramadaan, “Its religious significance aside, fasting has become one of the most encouraged methods of replenishing health, with recent clinical studies citing countless physical and mental benefits, ranging from weight loss and mental clarity to reversing disease. While this historical month of fasting is certainly not new and in fact spans back thousands of years, there are many among us who have just recently boarded the fasting train and thus we may choose to embark on this annual tradition ourselves this year, whether it be as a spiritual practice or a healthy interlude”.

Pay close attention to the statement, “There are many among us who have just recently boarded the fasting train and thus we may choose to embark on this annual tradition ourselves this year, whether it be as a spiritual practice or a healthy interlude”. Indeed, this statement needs clarification so that the virtue of fasting as an act of worship is clearly distinguished from fasting as a means of improving health. Abu Huraira [may Allaah be pleased with him] reported that Allaah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him], “Whoever fasts the month of Ramadan due to faith and seeking reward, his previous sins will be forgiven. Whoever stands in prayer during the Night of Decree due to faith and seeking reward, his previous sins will be forgiven”. [Al-Bukhaaree 1901 and Muslim 760]

Regarding the statement of the Prophet, “Whoever fasts the month of Ramadan due to faith and seeking reward”, Imaam Abdul Azeez Bin Baaz [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “Due to believing that Allaah legislated it and seeking reward, as opposed to the one who fasts out of blind following”. (3) “That is because fasting is for the purpose of Taqarrub Ilal laah [i.e. perform acts of worship legislated by Allaah, so that we receive Allaah’s love, reward and help etc] and intention is a condition of its performance”. (4)

Pay close attention to the statement “and intention is a condition of its performance”, meaning intention [Niyyah] is a condition for the performance of fasting. This Niyyah [intention] is what distinguishes one act of worship from another act of worship- a distinction between prayer and fasting, distinction between an obligatory prayer and an optional prayer etc (4.1), and it is also what distinguishes acts of worship from customary deeds, for example taking a bath may be done to clean oneself or cool one’s body (i.e. not related to worship) or it may be done as ritual purification. (4.2) Therefore, this journalist should have made a clear distinction between the importance of fasting as an act of worship and fasting for a healthy interlude.

And regarding the statement of the Messenger, “his previous sins will be forgiven”, Imaam an-Nawawi [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “It is well known – regarding what the jurists hold – that this specifically applies to the minor sins and not the major”. (5) Imaam Abdul Azeez Bin Baaz [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “This forgiveness is attained on condition that one abandons the major sins”. (6) Imaam Abdul Azeez Bin Baaz also stated a principle related to the unrestricted narrations in which a mention is made regarding the expiation of sins, that they are restricted by the texts regarding the abandonment of major sins – either restricted by the statement of Allaah:

[إِنْ تَجْتَنِبُوا كَبَائِرَ مَا تُنْهَوْنَ عَنْهُ نُكَفِّرْ عَنْكُمْ سَيِّئَاتِكُمْ – If you avoid the great sins which you are forbidden to do, We shall remit from you your (small) sins. (Surah An-Nisaa. Aayah 31)]; or by the statement of the Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam], “The five prayers, Friday to Friday, and Ramadan to Ramadan will expiate the sins committed between them, as long as major sins are avoided”. (7)

The Benefits of Fasting By Al-Allaamah Abdul Muhsin Al-Abbaad [may Allaah preserve him]

As for fasting, its good outcomes are tremendous because it is a protection. Imaam Bukhaari and Imaam Muslim reported the hadeeth, “Fasting is a shield”. (8) It is shield of protection against the hell fire in the afterlife and it is a protection against disobedience (to Allaah and His Messenger). Fasting weakens the desires of a person; so it restrains the whims of a person and acts as barrier against the dangerous and forbidden deeds he might commit due to engagement in enjoyment (i.e. enjoyment that may exceed the limits impose by Allaah and His Messenger). Indeed the soul may engage- due to such enjoyment- in affairs whose end results are unpraiseworthy in this worldly and the hereafter; so because of this the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, “Paradise is surrounded by hardships and the hell fire is surrounded by all kinds of desires and passions”. (9)

The path to paradise requires that a person exercises patience in order to abstain from disobedience and the path to the hell fire is surrounded by all (forbidden) desires. If a person distances himself from those forbidden desires, he [or she] will be safe; but if a person engages in such forbidden desires he [or she] will fall into what Allaah has forbidden. This forbidden enjoyment will be one that quickly fades away, but its end results will be grief, regret and humiliation in this life and the next. It has been reported in a hadeeth narrated by Abdullaah Ibn Mas’ood (may Allaah be pleased with him] that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, “O young people! Whoever among you is able to marry, should marry, and whoever is not able to marry, is recommended to observe Sawm (fast) as fasting will diminish his sexual power”. (10)

Therefore, the Prophet made it clear that if a person is able to get married, he should hasten to do so in order to remain chaste and enables another person (i.e. wife) to remain chaste; but if he is not able, he should devote himself to this Prophetic remedy which the Noble Messenger directed him to, and that is fasting. And that is because it is a safeguard and a protection for a person against falling into disobedience. In summary: This is a Noble Prophetic guidance given by the Noble Messenger to the youth-that they should get marriage if they are able to do so; but if not, they should restrain their desires through fasting.

As for the fasting of the wealthy people, it reminds them of hunger pangs; so they reflect upon the blessings Allaah has bestowed on them because they have Muslim brothers (and sisters) who suffer from hunger pangs (even) without fasting. And that is because they cannot find something (i.e. food) to do away with extreme hunger. So this reflection becomes a drive (or motive) for them (i.e. the wealthy) to show kindness towards the poor and to spend on the destitute and needy. Rebuke Against Sinful Husbands Who Command Wives to Change Their Skin Complexions In The Name of Beautification!

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allaah [The Most High] said:

وَمِنۡ ءَايَـٰتِهِۦ خَلۡقُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٲتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَٱخۡتِلَـٰفُ أَلۡسِنَتِڪُمۡ وَأَلۡوَٲنِكُمۡ‌ۚ إِنَّ فِى ذَٲلِكَ لَأَيَـٰتٍ۬ لِّلۡعَـٰلِمِينَ

And among His Signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the difference of your languages and colours. Verily, in that are indeed signs for men of sound knowledge. [Surah Ar-Rum. Verse 22]

Question to Imaam Muhammad Ibn Saaleh Al-Uthaymeen [may Allaah have mercy upon him]: “It has become widespread among the people, especially women, to use some chemicals and natural herbs that change the colour of the skin, so that coloured (brown or non-white skin) becomes white after applying these chemicals and natural herbs, and so on. Is there a Sharee’ah prohibition against this? And bear in mind that some husbands command their wives to use these chemicals and natural herbs whilst citing as proof that it is obligated on a woman to beautify herself for her husband“.

Answer: “If this change is permanent, then it is forbidden; rather it is one of the major sins, because indeed it is worse than tattooing in relation to altering what Allaah has created. Indeed, it has been established (by way authentic narration) from the Prophet (peace and blessing of Allaah be upon him) that he cursed the women who do hair extensions and the woman who does it for others, the woman who does tattoos and the woman who does it for them. In Bukhaari and Muslim, Abdullaah Ibn Mas’ood [may Allaah be pleased with him] said, “May Allaah curse the women who do tattoos and the women who have them done, and the women who pluck eyebrows and the women who have that done, and the women who file their teeth for the purpose of beautification, those who change the creation of Allaah”. And he said, “Why should I not curse those whom the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) cursed?” The one who attaches hair extensions is the one whose hair is short so she adds something to it, whether hair or something similar. The woman who does tattoos is one who puts the tattoo on the skin by inserting a needle and what is similar, then she fills that place with kohl or something similar which alters the colour of the skin. The woman who seeks for tattoos to be done is the one who asks someone else to do a tattoo on her. The woman who plucks eyebrows is the one who plucks hair from the face- from her eyebrows or for others. The woman who seeks for that to be done is the one who asks that her eyebrows are plucked. The woman who files her teeth is the one who asks someone else to file her teeth in order to widen the gaps between them. All of these deeds are tantamount to changing what Allaah has created and what has been stated in the question is more severe – with regards to changing what Allaah has created – than what has been stated in the hadeeth. But if the change is not permanent, such as henna and the like, then there is nothing wrong with it because it will disappear, such as kohl, using red cosmetic on the cheeks and lips. Therefore, it is obligatory to be careful, warn against altering what Allaah has created and spread the warning among the Ummah lest evil spread, become widespread and thus becomes difficult to reverse it”. [Majmoo Al-Fataawaa 17/20-21]

All praise and thanks be to Allaah. None disputes the fact that sensible men and women give precedence to piety, even though they also have their preferences and beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The most important thing is that a person asks Allaah for a spouse who is good for their Dunyaa and Aakhirah. Many of us have been married for over two decades and the most important thing is harmony, compassion, mercy, gentleness and aiding one another to obey Allaah. Therefore, we ask Allaah to include us amongst those about whom He stated:

[وَٱلَّذِينَ يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَا هَبۡ لَنَا مِنۡ أَزۡوَٲجِنَا وَذُرِّيَّـٰتِنَا قُرَّةَ أَعۡيُنٍ۬ وَٱجۡعَلۡنَا لِلۡمُتَّقِينَ إِمَامًا – And those who say: “Our Lord! Bestow on us from our wives and our offspring who will be the comfort of our eyes, and make us leaders for the pious]. [Surah Al-Furqan. Verse 74]

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “So they ask Allaah to grant them the comfort of the eye by making their wives and offspring obedient to Allaah, and to grant them happiness in their hearts due to being followed by the righteous in obedience and servitude to Allaah. That is because a trustworthy leader in the religion co-operates with (others) upon obedience (to Allaah and His Messenger) and that is to call them to (sound) leadership in the religion, whose foundation is patience and certainty, as Allaah [The Most High] said:

[ وَجَعَلۡنَا مِنۡہُمۡ أَٮِٕمَّةً۬ يَہۡدُونَ بِأَمۡرِنَا لَمَّا صَبَرُواْ‌ۖ وَڪَانُواْ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا يُوقِنُونَ – And We made from among them (Children of Israel), leaders, giving guidance under Our Command, when they were patient and used to believe with certainty in Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). Therefore, in their supplication to Allaah that He makes them leaders of the righteous people, is that Allaah guides them, grants them success, bless them with beneficial knowledge and righteous actions-outwardly and inwardly-without which (sound) leadership in the religion cannot be achieved. How Do We Approach The Affair of The Nations of The Past

Allaah [The Most High] said:

قَدْ خَلَتْ مِنْ قَبْلِكُمْ سُنَنٌ فَسِيرُوا فِي الْأَرْضِ فَانْظُرُوا كَيْفَ كَانَ عَاقِبَةُ الْمُكَذِّبِينَ

Many similar mishaps [troubles, problems] of life were faced by nations that have passed away before you, so travel through the earth, and see what was the end of those who disbelieved. [3:137]

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “Indeed, there were nations like yourselves before you, so look to their evil end. You have to know that the reason behind their evil end was due to their disbelief in the revelations of Allaah and disbelief in Allaah’s Messengers. They were the forefathers and you are the descendants. The main affair that connects you to each other is your disbelief and the ruling on that disbelief is destruction”. (1)

Imaam Muhammad Bin Saaleh Al-Uthaymeen [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “If it is said, “What is the benefit in narrating to us the stories of the destroyed nations despite the fact that this Ummah will not be completely destroyed in a manner similar to the destruction of the previous nations before it?” The Answer: Indeed, this has two benefits: The first benefit is a clarification of Allaah’s blessings upon us that the occurrence of a complete destruction is removed from us, and that were it not for Allaah’s Benevolence we would have been deserving of it. (2)

Reviving The Traditions of The Disbelievers

The Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said, “The most hated people to Allaah are three: a person who deviates from right conduct [i.e. an evil doer] in the Haram [sanctuaries of Makkah and Medeenah], a person who seeks that the traditions of the Pre-lslamic Period of Ignorance should remain in Islam and a person who seeks to shed somebody’s blood without any right”. [Saheeh Al-Bukhaari 6882]

Al-Allaamah Zayd Bin Haadee Al-Madkhalee [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “These three deeds are from the major sins. The first major sin is Al-Ilhaad Fil Haram [i.e. deviating from right conduct in the sanctuaries of Makkah and Madeenah]. Ilhaad means to deviate from the truth (and enter into) falsehood, and supporting falsehood in order to obliterate the truth. Allaah [The Mighty and Majestic] censured the Mulhideen Fil Haram [i.e. those who deviate from right conduction in the sanctuaries of Makkah and Madeenah], saying:

[وَمَن يُرِدۡ فِيهِ بِإِلۡحَادِۭ بِظُلۡمٍ۬ نُّذِقۡهُ مِنۡ عَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ۬ – And whoever intends evil actions therein or to do wrong (i.e. practice polytheism and leave Islamic Monotheism), We shall make him taste a painful torment]. [Surah Al-Hajj. Aayah 25]
Allaah promised them (a severe punishment) due to the mere fact they intend evil actions therein [i.e. in the sanctuaries of Makkah and Madeenah], then how about perpetrating such deed! Indeed that would be a more severe sin, a more frightening state and a more severe punishment. This is a proof regarding the virtue of the sanctuaries of the Haram- that it is a sacred land chosen by Allaah and He made it a place where virtuous acts of worship are performed, (such as) the Hajj which is one of the pillars of Islaam. Allaah gave this place virtues that cannot be enumerated, such as the increased reward attached to good deeds [performed in Makkah and Madeenah] and gave this land virtue over all other lands of the earth.

The second major sin is committed by the person who wants that the pre-Islamic traditions should remain in Islaam, as if he gives precedence to the pre-Islamic traditions – the evil customs that were followed during that period and the misguided deeds- over the Islamic practices, Eemaan, Ihsaan, their virtue and virtue of the Sunnah. He is guilty of committing a major sin, and this includes giving precedence to religious innovations over (the authentic) Sunnah that guides to the straight path.

The third major sin is to seek to shed somebody’s blood without any right – meaning: seeking to shed the blood of a Muslim without right and doing so based on oppression and animosity. Shedding the blood of a Muslim is a great crime, just as the Prophet said, “The extinction of the whole world is less significant to Allaah than killing a Muslim [i.e. unlawfully]”. And he [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] stated regarding the rights of the Ka’bah, “How great you are and how great is your sanctity! But the sanctity of a believer is greater than yours in the sight of Allaah”. It is not permissible to transgress against the Muslims and the believers – males and females- in the sanctuaries of [Makkah and Madeenah] or in other places due to the great sin and punishment which results from that. Praiseworthy And Blameworthy Rejoicing

Allaah [The Most High] said:

قُلۡ بِفَضۡلِ ٱللَّهِ وَبِرَحۡمَتِهِۦ فَبِذَٲلِكَ فَلۡيَفۡرَحُواْ هُوَ خَيۡرٌ۬ مِّمَّا يَجۡمَعُونَ

Say: “In the Bounty of Allah, and in His Mercy; -therein let them rejoice.” That is better than what (the wealth) they amass.’’ [Surah Yonus. Verse 58]

[قُلۡ بِفَضۡلِ ٱللَّهِ -Say: In the Bounty of Allaah]- Meaning: the Qur’aan, which is the greatest blessing and favour, and a conferment by way of which Allaah preferred His [believing] slaves [over others]; [وَبِرَحۡمَتِهِ -And in His Mercy]-Meaning: The Religion [of Islaam], Eemaan, worship of Allaah, love of Him, and knowledge and awareness of Him; [فَلۡيَفۡرَحُواْ- Therein let them rejoice]; [هُوَ خَيۡرٌ۬ مِّمَّا يَجۡمَعُونَ – That is better than what they amass] of the enjoyable things of the worldly life and its pleasures.

The religion- the bounty that will bring about happiness in this life and the next- cannot be compared to all that is in this worldly life, [because these things of the worldly life] will vanish and come to an end very soon. Rather Allaah [The Most High] commanded [us] to rejoice in His Bounty and Mercy because it is that which will make the soul happy, thankful to Allaah, gives it a strong desire for an increase in knowledge and Eemaan. This is a praiseworthy rejoicing as opposed to rejoicing in the desires of this worldly life and its pleasures, or rejoicing in falsehood, for indeed that is blameworthy, as Allaah [The Most High] stated about a group amongst the people of Qaaroon that they said to him: [لَا تَفۡرَحۡ‌ۖ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يُحِبُّ ٱلۡفَرِحِينَ- Do not be glad (with ungratefulness to Allah’s Favours). Verily! Allah likes not those who are glad (with ungratefulness to Allah’s Favours)] [Soorah Al-Qasas: Ayah 76].

And as Allaah [The Most High] said about those who rejoiced in what they possessed of falsehood in opposition to that which the Messengers came with: [فَلَمَّا جَآءَتۡهُمۡ رُسُلُهُم بِٱلۡبَيِّنَـٰتِ فَرِحُواْ بِمَا عِندَهُم مِّنَ ٱلۡعِلۡمِ -Then when their Messengers came to them with clear proofs, they were glad (and proud) with that which they had of the knowledge (of worldly things)] [Soorah Ghaafir: Ayah 83] (4)

We ask Allaah to protect us from misguidance.

Allegations of Sexual Abuse In Educational Institutions! [A Mention of Some Robust Precautions of The Divine Legislation]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Once again we hear allegations of sexual abuse, but many amongst the writers who influence public opinion refuse to submit to their Lord and thus they are turned away from guiding their people to the robust legislated divine precautions that are found in the final divine revelation. They tirelessly seek for solutions elsewhere, even though the final revelation sent to humankind contains everything that will solve our problems. Allaah [The Exalted] said:

إِنَّ هَـٰذَا ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ يَہۡدِى لِلَّتِى هِىَ أَقۡوَمُ وَيُبَشِّرُ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ ٱلَّذِينَ يَعۡمَلُونَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ أَنَّ لَهُمۡ أَجۡرً۬ا كَبِيرً۬ا

Verily, this Quran guides to that which is most just and right and gives glad tidings to the believers (in the Oneness of Allah and His Messenger, Muhammad) who work deeds of righteousness, that they shall have a great reward (Paradise). [Surah Al-Israa. Verse 9]

The Consequences – In This Life and The Next – of Turning Away From Allaah’s Guidance

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

وَمَن يَعۡشُ عَن ذِكۡرِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ نُقَيِّضۡ لَهُ ۥ شَيۡطَـٰنً۬ا فَهُوَ لَهُ ۥ قَرِينٌ۬
وَإِنَّہُمۡ لَيَصُدُّونَہُمۡ عَنِ ٱلسَّبِيلِ وَيَحۡسَبُونَ أَنَّہُم مُّهۡتَدُونَ

And whosoever turns away (blinds himself) from the remembrance of the Most Beneficent (Allah) (i.e. this Quran and worship of Allah), We appoint for him Shaitan to be a Qarin (an intimate companion) to him. And verily, they (Satans / devils) hinder them from the Path (of Allah), but they think that they are guided aright! [Surah Az-Zukhruf. Verses 36-37]

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

But whosoever turns away from My Reminder (i.e. neither believes in this Quran nor acts on its orders, etc.) verily, for him is a life of hardship, and We shall raise him up blind on the Day of Resurrection. He will say:”O my Lord! Why have you raised me up blind, while I had sight (before).” (Allah) will say: “Like this, Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) came unto you, but you disregarded them (i.e. you left them, did not think deeply in them, and you turned away from them), and so this Day, you will be neglected (in the Hell-fire, away from Allah’s Mercy).” And thus do We requite him who transgresses beyond bounds [i.e. commits the great sins and disobeys his Lord (Allah) and believes not in His Messengers, and His revealed Books, like this Quran, etc.], and believes not in the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) of his Lord, and the torment of the Hereafter is far more severe and more lasting. [Surah Taa Haa. Verses 124-127]

The Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said, “My example, and the example of what I have been sent with is that of a man who came to some people and said, O people! I have seen the enemy’s army with my own eyes and I am a plain warner; so protect yourselves!’ Then a group of his people obeyed him and fled at night proceeding stealthily till they were safe, while another group of them disbelieved him and stayed at their places till morning when the army came upon them and killed and ruined them completely. So this is the example of that person who obeys me and follows that truth which I have brought (the Qur’aan and the Sunnah), and the example of the one who disobeys me and disbelieves the Truth I have brought”. (a)

Some Robust Safeguards

True and sincere obedience to Allaah and the Messenger is The First Solid Foundation

Allaah [The Mighty and Majestic] said:

Is it then he, who laid the foundation of his building on piety to Allah and His Good Pleasure, better, or he who laid the foundation of his building on an undetermined brink of a precipice ready to crumble down, so that it crumbled to pieces with him into the Fire of Hell. And Allah guides not the people who are the wrong doers. [Surah At-Tawbah. Verse 109]

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “Whoever wants his building to be elevated, then it is incumbent upon him to strengthen and fortify its foundation, because the elevation of the building is based on the firmness and fortification of its foundation. Deeds are a building and (sound) belief (in Allaah and the Messenger) is their foundation. If the foundation is strong, it carries and elevates the building, and if a part of the building is damaged, it is easy for it to bear the (damage); but if the foundation is not firm, then neither will the building be elevated nor will it be firm. And if something from the foundation is damaged, the building will either collapse or close to that. Therefore, the duty of a knowledgeable person is that he makes the foundation sound and fortified. As for the ignorant person, he elevates(the building) whilst building upon other than a (strong) foundation, so his building does not remain. The foundation of deeds is like the physical strength of a person- if the strength is vigorous, the body will be able to withstand burden and repel many harmful things; but if it is weak, the body’s ability to withstand burden is weakened and harm quickly overcomes the person. Therefore, support your building (i.e. your actions and deeds) with the foundation of (sound belief in Allaah and the Messenger) because if something from the top of your building decays and falls down, then it would be much easier for the (building) to bear (the damage), rather than the destruction of the foundation. This foundation is based on two affairs: First, sound knowledge and awareness of Allaah, His Commandments, names and attributes. Second, complete submission to Allaah alone (i.e. by worshipping Him alone) and (unconditional obedience to) His Messenger alone. This is the firmest foundation upon which the slave establishes his building [i.e. his actions and deeds]. Therefore, one solidifies the foundation, preserves its strength and carries on being enthusiastic and thus what is desired (i.e. success in this life and the next) is attained (by the will of Allaah). Command to Believing Men to Lower Their Gaze

Al-Allaamah Saaleh al Fawzaan [may Allaah preserve him] said, “Safety from the fitnah of women is by way of lowering the gaze, distancing oneself from paying attention to them and following them. Allaah [The Most High] said: [ قُلْ لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ يَغُضُّوا مِنْ أَبْصَارِهِمْ وَيَحْفَظُوا فُرُوجَهُمْ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ أَزْكَىٰ لَهُمْ ۗ إِنَّ اللَّهَ خَبِيرٌ بِمَا يَصْنَعُونَ – Tell the believing men to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their private parts from (illegal sexual acts). That is purer for them. Verily, Allaah is All-Aware of what you do]. [Surah An-Noor. Verse 30]

Therefore, lower your gaze from that which Allaah has made forbidden and do not enter places of fitnah so that you are safeguarded. This is one of the means to safety from fitnah. (2)

Al-Allaamah Saaleh Al-Fawzaan [may Allaah preserve him] also said, “Lowering one’s gaze is a means to protecting the private parts and not restraining ones gaze is a means to corrupting the private parts. Therefore, if you want to protect your private parts from lewdness, lower your gaze. If you leave your eyesight roam about freely – looking at what Allaah has made unlawful, then indeed it will lead you to lewdness”. (3)

Allaamah Saaleh Al-Fawzaan [may Allaah preserve him] also said, “Allaah commanded (us) to lower the gaze because the eyes are a means among the means to fornication. [Allaah said: قُلْ لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ يَغُضُّوا مِنْ أَبْصَارِهِمْ وَيَحْفَظُوا فُرُوجَهُمْ – Tell the believing men to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts, etc.) 24:30]. Therefore, lowering the gaze is a means to protecting the private parts. And Allaah (جلال وعلا) said: [يَعْلَمُ خَائِنَةَ الْأَعْيُنِ وَمَا تُخْفِي الصُّدُورُ – Allah knows the fraud of the eyes, and all that the breasts conceal (40:19)]

What is fraud of the eyes? It is when one steals a glance at what Allaah has forbidden. When (a person) is with the people and the people are looking at him, he lowers his gaze; but when he sees that they are inattentive, he steals a glance at the unlawful. This is the fraud of the eyes and Allaah knows about it. (4)

Shaikh Saaleh Aala Ash-Shaikh [may Allaah preserve him] said, “It is neither permissible for a man to be in seclusion with a woman in a house, a car or another place, nor is it permissible for a woman to be in seclusion with a strange man in a house, a car or another place. This is due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] “Let not any of you be in seclusion with a woman, except in the presence of a male relative of hers” (i.e. a relative she is not allowed to marry, such as her father, husband, brother, uncle, grandfather etc ). [Bukhaari and Muslim]

And also in (Bukhaari and Muslim) the Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) said, “A man is not secluded with a woman, except that shaytaan is the third of them”. The impermissible seclusion is that which includes behind closed doors or in a room, a car and what is similar to it, or being out of sight. These are the cases of forbidden seclusion and this is how it is defined by the jurists. (5)

Imaam Maymoon Bin Mehraan [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “Do not go to a woman [i.e. a strange woman] even if you say, ‘I am going to teach him the Qur’aan and do not lend an ear to a person of desires [i.e. a proponent of religious innovations] because you do not know what your heart will become attached to”. (6)

Al-Alaa Bin Ziyaad [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “Do not (allow) your eyes to follow the garment of a woman because one’s gaze places desire in the heart”. (7)

Those who turn Women into sexual objects in the name of so called freedom and liberty

Imaam Muhammad Ibn Saaleh Al-Uthaymeen [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “We find that at present our enemies focus on women issues – adorning women, intermingling them and make them share the same occupations with men, until it becomes as if the people are donkeys having no other concern except for their stomachs and canal desires, and Allaah’s Refuge is sought! Women are portrayed as if they are mere images – pictures (which) people attached no importance to except that which is connected to the woman’s figure (outward appearance). See how they have decorated and beautified her! See how they have brought about beautifications for her and presented her in a desirable condition, in relation to hair, skin, legs, arms, face and everything else, until they make it the most important issue for the woman- like a picture made out of plastic. They neither present to her the importance of establishing worship nor bearing children. (8)

Abu Hurairah [may Allaah be pleased with him] said, “Some women are clothed but naked, inclining to evil and seducing with it. They will not enter Paradise, nor smell its fragrance, even though it can be found from a distance of five hundred years of travel”. (9)

Imaam Muhammad Ibn Saaleh Al-Uthaymeen [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said: This has been explained to mean that they will wear short clothing that does not cover the parts of the body one is obligated to cover [i.e. the entire body of a woman is to be covered besides the face and hands]. It has been explained to mean that they will wear revealing clothing that does not prevent one from seeing the woman’s skin. And it has been explained to mean that they will wear tifght clothing which covers the body, but reveals that which leads to trial through a woman. (10)

NB: Regarding the statement ”They will not enter Paradise, nor smell its fragrance, even though it can be found from a distance of five hundred years of travel”. Imaam Abdul Azeez Bin Baaz [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, ”The sinners [i.e. those who die whilst committing sins lesser than Shirk] are under the will of Allaah- if Allaah wishes, He will either punish or forgive them straight away, or He enters them into hell for some time and paradise thereafter, just as Allaah said: [إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يَغۡفِرُ أَن يُشۡرَكَ بِهِۦ وَيَغۡفِرُ مَا دُونَ ذَٲلِكَ لِمَن يَشَآءُ‌ۚ – Verily, Allah forgives not that partners should be set up with him in worship, but He forgives except that (anything else) to whom He pleases]. [Surah An-Nisaa’ Aayah 48] (11)

Free mixing in the schools and colleges

“Prevention is easier than repelling something (after it has occurred)”. Imaam Muhammad Ibn Saaleh Al-Uthaymeen [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “This is principle of Islamic jurisprudence that was mentioned by Ibn Rajab [may Allaah have mercy upon him]. And in relation to its meaning is the statement of the doctors, “Prevention is easier than cure”, because prevention (necessitates) distancing oneself from evil and its causes. As for if evil occurs (i.e. due to not taking precaution), it becomes difficult for a person to remove it”. (12)

The committee of Senior Scholars (Saudi Arabia) stated: The reason behind the prohibition against free mixing between men and women is due to fear of falling into fitnah, lest it becomes a means to committing lewd acts; (a means) to violating the honour of women and corrupting the society. And indeed these affairs can become a greater reality through free mixing in education. Therefore, it (free mixing in education) is forbidden. (13)

Finally, a rebuke against those men who abuse the female folk of other people

Abu Umamah [may Allah be pleased with him] said, “A young man came to the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] and said, ‘O Allaah’s Messenger! Allow me to commit illegal sexual intercourse’. The people turned to him to rebuke him and told him keep quiet. So the Prophet moved closer to him and he sat down. The Prophet said, ‘Would you like that for your mother?’ He said, ‘By Allaah! No. ay Allah make me your ransom’. He said, ‘The people do not like it for their mothers either’. Then he said, ‘Would you like it for your daughter?’ He said, ‘By Allaah! No. May Allah make me your ransom’. He said, ‘The people do not like it for their daughters either’. He said, ‘Would you like it for your sister?’ He said, ‘By Allaah! No. May Allah make me your ransom’. He said, ‘The people do not like it for their sisters either’. He said, ‘Would you like it for your paternal aunt?’ He said, ‘By Allaah! No. May Allah make me your ransom.” He said: “The people do not like it for their paternal aunts either’. He said, ‘Would you like it for your maternal aunt?’ He said, By Allah! No. May Allah make me your ransom’. He said, ‘The people do not like it for their maternal aunts either’. Then he placed his hand on him and said, ‘O Allah! Forgive his sins and cleanse his heart, and protect his chastity’. And after that the young man never thought of any such thing again”. (14)

We ask Allaah to protect us from all evil Aameen.

Topple The Upright Scholars of Islaam- [Legacy of Colonialists, Socialists, Innovated Groups That Ascribe to Islaam and Khawaarij]: By Al-Allaamah Rabee Bin Haadee Al-Madkhalee

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Al-Allaamah Rabee Bin Haadee Al-Madkhalee [may Allaah preserve him] said:

I will mention what Ibnul Qayyim [may Allaah have mercy upon him] and other than him – amongst the people of knowledge – drew attention to regarding the virtue of the scholars in the statement of Allaah [The Blessed and Exalted] said: [يَـٰٓأَيُّہَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓاْ أَطِيعُواْ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُواْ ٱلرَّسُولَ وَأُوْلِى ٱلۡأَمۡرِ مِنكُمۡ‌ۖ – O you who believe! Obey Allah and obey the Messenger (Muhammad, and those of you (Muslims) who are in authority]. [Surah An-Nisaa. Verse 59]

The pious predecessors explained the term “Ulul Ilm – those who have been given knowledge” to mean “Al-Umaraa -those who are in authority” and some of them explained it to mean “Al-Ulamaa – the scholars”. However, what is correct is that the verse includes both the scholars and those in authority [i.e. the rulers]. The scholars propagate Allaah’s divine law, teach the people, give rulings to the people and the rulers; and the rulers implement the rulings – implement the knowledge (of the divine law], which the scholars possess and propagate. So, the verse includes both the scholars and rulers. And due to this, Ibnul Qayyim said that it is obligatory to obey the scholars when they say, “Allaah said and Allaah’s Messenger said” in issues related to creed, acts of worship or deeds. (Also with regards to affairs) related to halaal and haram, if they say, “Allaah said and the Messenger of Allaah said” and then they give verdicts and judge based on what the Book and Sunnah necessitates, it becomes obligated on the people to obey them. (a) If the rulers command (the people) to obey Allaah -in agreement with what agrees with Allaah’s divine law, then it becomes obligated on the people to obey them. (b)

(But what is) witnessed (in relation to this affair) is that many people do not acknowledge the status of the people of knowledge, and they say, “They (i.e. scholars) are not guardians over us and there are no popes in Islam”. This (i.e. statement of those who do not recognize the status of the scholars) is tantamount to toppling the scholars, belittling them and removing them from their status (i.e. although neither are the scholars regarded as popes nor are they to be treated as popes, but they are the inheritors of the prophets and must be obeyed when they give rulings and judge based on what the Qur’aan and the Sunnah necessitate). This chronic illness started since the appearance of nationalism, western colonialism, the destructive views of the Naasiriyyah [i.e. Pan Arab Socialists] and Ba’thiyyah [i.e. the Ba’ath party – socialists] etc. The figureheads of these filthy dogmas made strenuous efforts to eliminate Islaam and remove it from their path, which they could not accomplish except by toppling the scholars. Then, this disease spread amongst the (innovated or deviated) groups that attribute themselves to Islaam, so you see them earnestly (seeking) to topple the scholars and describing them as stooges of the (government) authorities, spies, tails of the ruler and other evil nicknames. The (aim behind) all of this is to topple the scholars, especially the scholars of the Salafi methodology – the methodology that declares the one who is correct, the one upon error, the one upon falsehood, the misguided one and the deviated one as they are. There is neither flattery nor Mudaahanah [i.e. showing agreement -being pleased with what an opponent is upon, leaving him in his path and not seeking to rectify him, whilst saying, ‘As long as he keeps quiet about me, I will keep quiet about him’, because the inheritors of the prophets [i.e. the upright scholars]- those who present the truth- are just. They aid the religion ordained by Allaah and propagate it in the ummah. They propagate justice, Ihsaan [i.e. all that will perfect the worship of a person, good dealings and benefiting the people through one’s knowledge, wealth and position etc] and righteousness. And they wage war against evil, Fawaahish (i.e. great evil sins, every kind of unlawful sexual intercourse), Shirk, misguidance, innovation in religious affairs and superstitious beliefs beliefs. (1)

The Shaikh [may Allaah preserve him] also said, “Indeed, I advise the youth to have good manners, to be humble, honour the scholars and avoid this evil orientation [i.e. the claim of the one who says, ‘I do not make Taqleed of such and such’, even though the claim behind this is to reject the truth.. read here [ https://salaficentre.com/2017/12/15c-excerpts-shaikh-rabees-book-titled-marhaban-yaa-taalibal-ilm-i-not-make-taqleed-person/ ], just as the khawaarij used to say, ‘The judgement belongs to none except Allaah’, so Ali [may Allaah be pleased with him] said to them, ‘A statement of truth by way of which falsehood is desired’.

I swear by Allaah -based on my observations of their actions, statements and stances-that these people desire falsehood and to divert the youth from the scholars. The youth exit a maelstrom and fall into another maelstrom, exit one pit and fall into another, because the people of evil and temptation are hidden behind the scenes, as the saying goes, ‘They want pawns’ whom they move back and forth to confront the Salafi Methodology. Where did Ikhwaan al Muslimoon and the Qutubiyyoon (c) get these ideas from in this land [i.e. Saudi Arabia]? Where did the ideas of Juhaymaan, Abdur Rahmaan Abdul Khaaliq, Al- Haddaad, Al-Maghraawi and Abul Hasan Al-Maribi come from? (d) All of them are tail ends of Ikhwaan Al-Muslimeen’s ideas. All of them- beginning with the civil strife initiated by Juhaymaan up to date- are tail ends of Ikhwaan Al-Muslimeen’s tempation, whose main setup is to topple the scholars. However, they adopt different apparels and semblances – sometimes they adopt the term Al-Ikhwaan, sometimes the term At-Tasawwuf and at other times they adopt the term As-Salafiyyah! The most dangerous one is the term As-Salafiyyah, because they are unable to confront the Salafi Methodology with the terms At-Tab’leegh and Al- Ikhwaan, so they cover this make-believe act with the term As-Salafiyyah and then come along to challenge the scholars [i.e. the true scholars of the Salafi Methodology]. Nevruz Celebrations – [Reminder to Muslims Who Participate In This Event]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Nevruz is a traditional spring festival. They say that it symbolizes brotherhood and peace. It is celebrated mainly in Iran, Afghanistan, India, Turkic republics such as Azerbaijan across the Caucasus region and Albania and Macedonia. It is a United Nations-recognized international cultural day, and it marks the start of a new year and is considered as a forerunner of spring. Its origins is debated. In Persian, it means “new day” and it is said to have its origins in Zoroastrianism, the religion of pre-Islamic, Persian empires. According to this religion, March 21 is considered the day of the earth’s creation and the first day of the new year. Others claim that Turks living in Central Asia were the first people to celebrate the coming of spring, the principal view of Nevruz according to Turkic tradition is the celebration of independence. It marks the day of departure from Ergenekon, where Turks were trapped for years before a blacksmith melted the rock and Asena, a grey wolf, led them to freedom.

What Is The Ruling On Celebrations Other Than The Ones Legislated In Islaam

Imaam Abdul Azeez Bin Baaz [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said:

This National Day (celebration is tantamount to) an imitation of Allaah’s enemies. It may have occurred due a good intention and based on a judgement made by some after striving to reach the correct verdict in an affair, but what is apparent to us is that it is not legislated and it is not from that which is befitting; rather imitation of Allaah’s enemies is found within it, even if worship is not intended by way of it. As for if worship was intended by way of it, then it would be an innovation in religion, but worship is not intended by way of it; rather what is intended is to congratulate, manifest what the country has established and done, therefore, this is considered to be similar to the other days initiated by the Jews and Christians [i.e. those amongst them who changed the religion after the departure of their Prophets] for remembrance or for other reasons. So, it is not befitting [or not permissible] to imitate them- neither in this affair nor in other than it [i.e. those affairs which the Islamic legislation has neither allowed nor legislated]. (1)

Imaam Abdul Azeez Bin Baaz [may Allaah have mercy upon him] also said:

All of this is Munkar [i.e. considered evil in the Islamic legislation], whether for the person, his mother, his daughter or son. All this that has been newly invented – nowadays – is an imitation of the Christians or the Jews [i.e. those amongst them who changed the religion after the departure of their Prophets]. It has no basis nor a foundation [i.e. in the Islamic legislation]. Mother’s day, Father’s Day, Uncle’s Day, the day for a particular person (as celebration or congratulation), or the day for his daughter or son, then all of this is Munkaraat [considered evil in the Islamic legislation]. All of it is an innovation in religious affairs, an imitation of Allaah’s enemies and nothing from it is permissible. (2)

Imaam Muhammad Ibn Saaleh Al-Uthaymeen [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said:

Everything that is taken as a day of day of celebration [Festival and Annual Celebrations], repeated every week and every year and is not legislated in Islaam, then it is a Bidah [i.e. religious innovation]. The evidence is because the One Who [i.e. Allaah] legislates everything [i.e. either in the Qur’aan and the authentic Prophetic Tradition] has legislated the “Aqeeqah” for the newly born baby and did not legislate anything after that. So, taking these celebrations [festivals] that are repeated every week or every year means that they [i.e. the people who do so] have likened them to Islamic festivals [days of celebrations, days set aside for religious observance] and this is forbidden- not permissible. There is nothing in Islam related to festivals [celebrations or days set aside for religious observance] except for the three: Eid Al-Fitr, Eid Al-Adha, and Eidul Usboo, which is Friday. (3)

The Elephant In The Room – [Food For Thought For Those Europeans Who Vilify Believing Women When They Wear layers of Clothes]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

“When Europeans came to North America, the thing they said about the native Americans was that they were so barbaric, because they walked around naked. The European women were wearing three layers of clothes. Then they came to North America, and decided that the native Americans were backward because they all walked around naked. And now, we walk around naked, and we say that the Muslims are backward because they wear so much clothes”.

Shaikh Abdul Waahid- abu Khadeejah [may Allaah preserve him] stated:

Both men and women are expected to show modesty in the clothes they wear. Women are expected to dress in a way that shows they are believing women. The Qur’ān instructs the Prophet, “Tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to wrap their outer garments (the jilbāb) around themselves. That is more suitable so that they will be known as pious women, and not be harassed.” (Al-Ahzāb 33:59)

Women are also told not to display their finery. This means that the dress is meant to protect the wearer from harassment and to prevent one from becoming obsessed with pride in one’s outward appearance. It is also a way Muslims can develop a society that respects the boundaries between men and women. In this way each person is judged for their piety, honesty, hard work and values, not mere outward beauty and fashion consciousness. Many Muslim women completely conceal themselves in a ‘jilbāb’ (outer garment covering them from their head to their feet), along with gloves, and a face veil (niqāb) that allows only the eyes to be seen. All of this is from Islam. However, not all of it is obligatory. The gloves and face veil are not obligations but recommendations, and most women choose not to wear them.

So the hijāb is the Islamic practice of preventing women from being seen by men except by their closest male relatives (referred to as mahrams). Men are not allowed to shake hands with women unless they are closely related to them, such as one’s wife, daughter, paternal aunt, maternal aunt, sister, etc.

Some Muslims wrongly believe that the hijāb is a cultural practice rather than a religious one. They are very much mistaken because Allāh has instructed the women, “and they are to draw their veils (khumur) over their heads and chests (juyūb) and not to reveal their beauty except to their husbands, their fathers, their husband’s fathers, their sons, their husband’s sons, their brothers or their brother’s sons, or their sister’s sons…” (An-Nūr 24:31)

The crucial words in this verse are: وَلْيَضْرِبْنَ بِخُمُرِهِنَّ عَلَىٰ جُيُوبِهِنَّ

In Arabic: wal-yadribna clearly proves that this is a command (due to the lām of command) so it means: “and they are to draw their veils…” The word Allāh uses in this verse for veil is Khimār (pl. khumur). The meaning of this word in the Arabic language is: scarf or veil. The jurist, linguist, scholar of the Arabic grammar and Quran, Shaikh Ibn Uthaimīn said, “It is a cloth with which a woman covers her head.” (Tafsīr Surah An-Nūr, p. 167). The Quranic Scholar, Al-Baghawī (died 516AH) stated, “The term juyūb (sing. jayb) in this verse refers to their chests, hair, necks and ears.” (3/289) Shaikh Ibn Uthaimīn also said, “The Quranic scholars have said it means that they are to cover their heads, necks, and chests with a scarf.” (p. 168)

Allah instructed the men, “To lower their gaze from looking at women with desire other than their wives, and to protect themselves from fornication. That is purer for them.” (An-Nūr 24:30) Men are commanded to dress modestly in loose garments that do not reveal what is between their navel and knees. All lower garments such as trousers or long shirts (i.e. thawb) must be above the ankles just as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has commanded, “What is below the ankles of a lower garment will be in the Fire.” (Reported by Al-Bukhārī, no. 793) And he said, “The lower garment of the believer should come to the mid-calf, but there is no sin on him if it comes between that point and the ankle. But whatever is lower than the ankle is in the Fire.” And he said three times, “Allah will not look at the one who lets his lower garment drag on the floor out of vanity.” (Reported by Ibn Mājah, no. 3704) https://www.abukhadeejah.com/understanding-the-muslim-dress-code-modesty-for-men-and-the-hijab-for-women-islam-4-5/

The above clarification by Shaikh Abu Khadeejah [may Allaah preserve him] is very clear and this is modesty obligated on all believers. So, we say to some of those who seek to vilify believing women, “Do you not recall your history when your forefathers arrived in America? One of your writers stated as follows, ‘When Europeans came to North America, the thing they said about the native Americans was that they were so barbaric, because they walked around naked. The European women were wearing three layers of clothes. Then they came to North America, and decided that the native Americans were backward because they all walked around naked. And now, we walk around naked, and we say that the Muslims are backward because they wear so much clothes. Can you imagine anything more barbaric? Banning women wearing head scarfs?'”

Therefore, brothers and sisters, this above statement of a non-Muslim reminds us of three affairs:

First, it reminds us of the Allaah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] statement that there will be women who will be dressed but naked. [Saheeh Muslim 2128]

Second, we should ask Allah to grant us the guidance and ability to adhere to everything we have been commanded in the divine revelation and that we do not follow any custom that opposes it. Imaam Al-Albaanee [may Allaah have mercy upon him] stated regarding his discussion with a priest: “Within the perfection of Islam is that it laid down rulings and divine legislation in order for Muslims to preserve their Islamic personality and are not to wasted away (or ruined)– in any era – through the (Un-Islamic] personality of another nation. The scholars who deal with the subject matters of Ijmaa (consensus) say that any society that wants to preserve their personality must preserve their traditions, history and language, and this is an indisputable affair to them in the knowledge (or subject matter) related to consensus. So, I told him that one of the virtues of Islam and the perfection of its legislation is that it has legislated for the Muslims to preserve their Muslim personality and not to imitate those who are in opposition [to their identity (i.e. identity judged to be un-Islamic by the divine revelation)]; rather they should aim to be in opposition to the path of those who are in opposition to their identity. (1)

Imaam Abdul Azeez Bin Baaz [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “It is obligated on every Muslim that he does not depend on custom; rather he presents it to the pure Islamic legislation (to be judged), so whatever the Islamic legislation affirms is permissible and whatever it does not affirm is impermissible. The customs of the people are not proof to determine the lawfulness of anything. All the customs of the people in their countries or tribes must be presented to the Book of Allaah and the Sunnah of His Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] for judgement, so whatever Allaah and His Messenger made permissible is permissible, and whatever they forbid, then it is obligatory to abandon it even if it is the custom of the people”. (2)

Imaam Muhammad Bin Saaleh Al-Uthaymeen [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “The customs cannot make something that is not legislated (in the divine revelation) as something legislated, because of Allaah’s statement: [وَلَيۡسَ ٱلۡبِرُّ بِأَن تَأۡتُواْ ٱلۡبُيُوتَ مِن ظُهُورِهَا – It is not Al-Birr (piety, righteousness, etc.) that you enter the houses from the back] [Surah Al-Baqarah. Aayah 189], despite the fact that it was something they took as their custom and considered it to be an act of righteousness. Whoever takes something as a custom and believes that it is an act of righteousness, then it should be presented to Allaah’s divine legislation [i.e. to be judged]”. (3)

Imaam Muhammad Bin Saaleh Al-Uthaymeen [may Allaah have mercy upon him] also said, “Extremism in related to customs is stringent adherence to old customs and not diverting to what is better than them. As for if the customs are equal in benefit [i.e. the ones judged to be permissible by the divine legislation], then a person remaining upon what he is upon would be better than going along with the new (or emerging) customs”. (4)

Finally, it is absolutely clear that those who seek to vilify female believers for wearing layers of clothes desire nothing else but corruption – a corruption they seek to portray as progress, freedom and liberty. Imaam Abdul Azeez Bin Baaz [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said: They seek to conquer the intellects of the Muslim children and nurture their hearts upon their views, either by making them feel that their ways are superior in every affair-be it in affairs of creed and religion, or that which they speak with by way of languages, or what they consider to be civilized manners, customs etc.. They seek to nurture a great number of Muslims in the Muslim lands until they are intoxicated with their views and return them to their lands. Then they start praising and promoting them until they become the figureheads in their countries. So they spread their ideas through these people…etc They encourage the Muslims in the Muslim lands to learn their languages at the expense of the Arabic language, which is the language of the Qur’aan- the language by way of which the Muslims perform their acts of worship. They also establish many studies that are intended to cause nuisance and glorify what they call popular literature and national heritage…..etc They prepare a large number of people amongst their people to study Islam and the Arabic language and write books, and take up teaching positions in universities- orientalists….etc They also spread propaganda that Muslim women in the Muslim lands are oppressed in order to take them out of their homes and place them where they want. But Allaah (The Most High) said:

يَا أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ قُلْ لِأَزْوَاجِكَ وَبَنَاتِكَ وَنِسَاءِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ يُدْنِينَ عَلَيْهِنَّ مِنْ جَلابِيبِهِنَّ ذَلِكَ أَدْنَى أَنْ يُعْرَفْنَ فَلا يُؤْذَيْنَ وَكَانَ اللَّهُ غَفُورًا رَحِيمًا

O Prophet! Tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks (veils) all over their bodies. That will be better, that they should be known (as free respectable women) so as not to be annoyed. And Allah is Ever Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” They set up radio programmes designed to mislead gullible young Muslims who do not understand Islam and do not have sufficient knowledge, especially in Africa…. However if the Muslims exercise patience these plots will not harm them. Allaah (The Most High) said: [وَإِنْ تَصْبِرُوا وَتَتَّقُوا لا يَضُرُّكُمْ كَيْدُهُمْ شَيْئًا إِنَّ اللَّهَ بِمَا يَعْمَلُونَ مُحِيطٌ – But if you remain patient and become Al-Muttaqun (the pious – see V.2:2), not the least harm will their cunning do to you. Surely, Allah surrounds all that they do]. (5)
