[1] The Three Monotheistic Religions! [Brief Observations On This Statement Uttered By Writers Who Are Ignorant About Islaam And Misguided Modernists Speaking In The Name of Islaam]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Firstly: We repeat once again the fact that rebutting false beliefs, ideas and views does not necessitate bad behaviour, rather Muslims are commanded to behave well towards others. Must read: https://www.abukhadeejah.com/living-with-non-muslims-in-the-west-with-fine-conduct/    https://salaficentre.com/2017/05/stance-proactive-order-protect-muslims-non-muslim-neighbours-inhuman-ideologies-devilish-acts-jihaadist-terrorists-sympathisers/

Allaah [The Most High] said:

Say (O Muhammad): “O people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians): Come to a word that is just between us and you, that we worship none but Allah, and that we associate no partners with Him, and that none of us shall take others as lords besides Allah. Then, if they turn away, say: “Bear witness that we are Muslims.” [Surah Aal Imraan. Aayah 64]

Meaning: say to the people of the scripture – the Jews and Christians, [تَعَالَوۡاْ إِلَىٰ ڪَلِمَةٍ۬ سَوَآءِۭ بَيۡنَنَا وَبَيۡنَكُمۡ – Come to a word that is just between us and you]- Meaning: Come let us unite upon the statement which all the Prophets and Messengers agreed upon and none opposes it, except the obstinate and misguided. This statement is not specific to anyone of us, rather it is something that you and us should establish between us, so this is justice and fairness in debate. Then Allaah explains this and said: [أَلَّا نَعۡبُدَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهَ وَلَا نُشۡرِكَ بِهِۦ شَيۡـًٔ۬ا  –  that we worship none but Allah, and that we associate no partners with Him]- Meaning: We should single out Allaah in worship, devoting all love, fear and hope to Him alone, and we should not associate anyone as partner with Allaah in worship- neither a Prophet, an Angel, a Righteous Person, an Idol, a Deified image, a living or non-living thing, [وَلَا يَتَّخِذَ بَعۡضُنَا بَعۡضًا أَرۡبَابً۬ا مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ‌ۚ  – and that none of us shall take others as lords besides Allaah]; rather all obedience is to be devoted to Allah and His Messengers. [فَإِن تَوَلَّوۡاْ فَقُولُواْ ٱشۡهَدُواْ بِأَنَّا مُسۡلِمُونَ – Then, if they turn away, say: “Bear witness that we are Muslims]. [Ref 1]

The Christians wrote to Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah [rahimahullaah] and claimed that Islaam considers all religions to be equal and that this has been mentioned in Suratul Baqarah as follows: Those who believe and those who are Jews and Christians, and Sabians, whoever believes in Allaah and the Last Day and do righteous good deeds shall have their reward with their Lord, on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve]. [Surah Al-Baqarah. Aayah 62]

So, Shaikhul Islaam [rahimahullaah] replied to them saying: So, [according to them], this statement makes all the people equal- the Yahood, the Muslims and other than them. The response to this firstly is that there is no proof for you in this ayah regarding that which you seek.  Indeed, (the ayah) places you (Christians), the Jews and the Sabians on the same level.  You (Christians) are in agreement with the Muslims that the Jews became disbelievers after belying the Messiah and the Sabians became disbelievers after belying the Messenger sent to them.  Therefore, if it were the case that this ayah exalts  the Religion you are upon after the advent of Muhammad [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam], then in it will also be praise for the Religion of the Jews, and both the Muslims and yourselves consider this to be falsehood.  So, if the Jews have not been praised in this Ayah after the abrogation and replacement of [their religion], then there will be no praise in it for the Christians after abrogation and replacement of [their religion]. Rather the meaning of the ayah is that those who believe in Muhammad [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam], and those Jews who followed Moosaa-  those who were upon his path before its abrogation and replacement; and the Christians who followed the Messiah- those who followed his path before its abrogation and replacement]; and the Sabians- the Sabian Monotheists, such as those amongst the Arabs and other than them who were upon the Religion of Ibraaheem, Ismaa’eel and Ishaaq before its abrogation and replacement, because the Arabs are from the children of Ismaa-eel and other than him from amongst those who were neighbours of the Baitul Ateeq (the ka’bah), which was built by Ibraaheem and Ismaa-eel), and they used to be Monotheists upon the religion of Ibraaheem up until one of the heads of the (Khuzaa-a clan) Amr Bin Luhai altered the religion of Ibraaheem with polytheism  and prohibited that which Allaah did not prohibit.  That is why the Prophet [sallal-laahu-alayhi wasallam] said: “’I saw Amr Bin luhai dragging his guts in the hell fire for he was the first one who set out across the small sea and changed the religion of Ibraaheem”.   Likewise, there were those of the Children of Ishaaq who were upon the religion of Ibraaheem before the advent of Moosaa [alayhis-salaam] and they used to be from  the favoured, praised ones.  Therefore the above mentioned and others like them are those who have been praised. Those who believe and those who are Jews and Christians, and Sabians, whoever believes in Allaah and the Last Day and do righteous good deeds shall have their reward with their Lord, on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve]. [Surah Al-Baqarah Aayah 62]

Therefore, the People of the Scripture who (came) after the abrogation and replacement of (these Religions) are neither from those who believed in Allaah and the Last day nor from those who worked righteous good deeds.  Those people of the Scripture [who came after the advent of Muhammad] disbelieved because they either substituted the religion of the Messiah or belied him or belied Muhammad [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] in various affairs.  The Aayaat of the Qur’aan (about this affair) are clear and many, have been transmitted in abundance and are known by necessity in the Religion of Muhammad [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam]. However, these Christians approach the Qur’aan in the same way they approached the Torah and the Injeel. They make undue claims on the Muhkamaat [i.e. the texts] which do not carry except a single meaning, whilst clinging onto the Mutashaabih [i.e. the texts which must be referred back to the Muhkamaat for explanation], even though in them is there is that which is in opposition to what they desire. [Ref 2]

The Terms and Concepts of ‘Death Fast’ or ‘Hunger Strike’ – [Brief Observations By Imaam Abdul Azeez Bin Baaz and Imaam Albaanee]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Death Fasts/Hunger Strikes

An Important Principle Regarding Terms and Concepts

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [rahimahullaah] said: The basis of Banee Aadam’s misguidance is as a result of ‘General Terms’ and ‘Ambiguous Meanings’ [i.e. terms & meanings which can either be utilised for truth or falsehood when not explained in detail and distinguished], especially if they come in contact with a confused mind, then how about when [evil] desires and misguided enthusiasm is added to that? Therefore, ask the One Who keeps the hearts steadfast [i.e. Allaah] to keep your heart firm upon His Religion and not allow you to fall into this darkness. [Ref 1]

The basis of a person’s Islaam is to testify that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allaah and that Muhammad [sallal-laahu-alayhi- wasallam] is the Messenger of Allaah, to believe in Allaah, declare that Allaah is One without partner, obey Allaah’s commands, keep away from what Allaah has forbidden and single out Allaah in worship. And safeguarding this path [necessitates] the prohibition of every expression [term or word] that contains Shirk Billaah [i.e. ascribing partners to Allaah] or Kufr, or will lead to one of the two. [Ref 2]  In the Qur’aan, there are many words that are utilised to rebut the words [or terms] that are in opposition to the call of the Messengers, the revelation that was revealed to them and the truth they brought. [Ref 3]

One of the general fundamental principles [in Islaam] is to know that words [or terms] are two types: Words that are mentioned in the Qur’aan and [authentic] Sunnah, therefore, it is obligated on every believer to affirm them – affirm what Allaah and His Messenger have affirmed, and negate what Allaah and His Messenger have negated. The words [or terms] affirmed by Allaah is truth and the ones Allaah negated are [negated] in truth, for indeed Allaah speaks the truth and guides to the straight path. The words [or terms] of the Sharee’ah are sanctified, and it is from perfection in knowledge that one seeks after the [sound meanings] which the Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasalam] intended by them, in order to affirm what he affirmed and negate the meanings he negated; for indeed it is obligated on us to believe and bear witness to everything he has stated and follow him in everything he has commanded.

As for the words [or terms] that are neither found in the Qur’am and [authentic] Sunnah, nor did the Salaf hold a consensus regarding whether they are negated or affirmed, then it is not incumbent on anyone to agree with the one who negates them or affirms them until its intended meaning is explained. So, if its intended meaning agrees with the [revelation, commands, prohibitions etc] conveyed by the Messenger, it is affirmed; but if its intended meaning is in opposition to the [revelation, commands, prohibitions etc] conveyed by the Messenger, it is rejected. [Ref 4]

What Is The Meaning of Fasting

Fasting in the Arabic Language means to abstain from something. In the Sharee’ah it means to refrain from eating, drinking and all that will break the fast [i.e. sexual intercourse etc] with the intention in one’s heart as an act of worship from Fajr to Maghrib. [5]

Question to Imaam Abdul Azeez Bin Baaz [rahimahullaah] Regarding Hunger Strike [or Death Fasts]

Question: We often hear about hunger strike that leads to death; what is Islaam’s ruling on this?

Answer: This does not have a basis [in Islaam]. This is something by way of which the enemies seek support for their filthy goals. This conduct does not have a basis [in Islaam] and it is not permissible if it leads to harm or death. This is what we believe regarding this affair. This [i.e. hunger strike] was adopted from the enemies of Islaam and we do not know of a basis for it. [Ref 6]

Question to Imaam Albaanee [rahimahullaah] Regarding Hunger Strike [Or Death Fasts]

Question to Shaikh Albaanee [rahimahullaah]: At present in relation to modern methods, they utilize it to draw people’s attention to a specific issue, such as a hunger strike, civil disobedience, refraining from work, standing still at particular hour as sign of mourning and the like, among other things that have been initiated. What is the Islamic ruling on such behavior?

Shaikh answer : I do not believe in the legitimacy of all this behaviour due to two reasons: Firstly, and that is the most most important thing, these methods are from the ways of nations that do not have a path prepared for them through the divine revelation, which if employed would lead to the desired goal. The Muslims are not like those people because we have the Sharee’ah which has not left out anything, except that if act upon it we’ll be happy in the world before the hereafter. Secondly, these methods, in addition to being a habit of the unbelievers, do not benefit and will never benefit the Muslims even if they remain throughout their lives, while they adhere to them and refrain from employing the divine legislated means that are stipulated by texts – which they hold as their belief – in their Sharee’ah. This is my answer to this question.

Questioner: May Allah reward you. Shaikh: And you. Questioner: We expand a little on hunger strike. Shaikh: Go on please. Questioner: I mean, in reality this includes destruction of the body which Allaah [Glorified and Exalted be He] gave to the human being, so now it means that hunger strike in particular, for whatever reason, includes destruction. Shaikh: Refraining from food and drink – undoubtedly – is two types, as it is considered one of the medical methods by which some people treat some of the diseases they are afflicted with. Of course, this type is not mentioned in your question. Questioner: Yes. Shaikh: Oh, so then the hunger strike intended in the question is the one that is pursued until a negative effect appears on the person’s body, so that the oppressors sympathize with him by releasing him or comfort him with something, or it what is similar. This type of refraining from food and drink enters into [intentional or wilful] self-starvation. All these means are not legislated in the Sharee’ah, together with the fact that it tantamount to exposing oneself to harm if not death [or destruction] [Ref 7]

O Allaah’s Messenger! Teach Me a Supplication to Say In My Prayers- [As-Siddeeq’s Request For a Supplication In The Prayer]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Abu Bakr narrated, “I said to Allaah’s Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam], ‘O Allaah’s Messenger! Teach me a supplication to say in my prayers’, so he said, ‘Say:

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِي ظُلْمًا كَثِيرًا وَلَا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ فَاغْفِرْ لِي مَغْفِرَةً مِنْ عِنْدِكَ وَارْحَمْنِي إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ الْغَفُورُ الرَّحِيمُ

O Allaah! I have wronged myself with many wrong and none forgives except You, so forgive me and have mercy upon me. Verily, you alone are the Forgiving, the Merciful’”

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [rahimahullaah] said: Supplication is three types: The first type is to invoke Allaah by His Names and Attributes, and this is one of the explanations of Allaah’s statement:[  وَلِلَّهِ ٱلۡأَسۡمَآءُ ٱلۡحُسۡنَىٰ فَٱدۡعُوهُ بِہَا- And (all) the Most Beautiful [perfect] Names belong to Allaah , so supplicate to Him by them]. [Surah Al-A’raaf. Aayah 180]

The second type is that you invoke Allaah for your need and due to your poverty, saying: I am Your poor slave, the needy one, the one to be pitied, the one seeking help and refuge etc. The third type is that you ask for your need whilst not using the aforementioned two types of invocations. The first invocation is more perfect and the second is more perfect than the third. Therefore, if an invocation gathers all three types, then it will be most perfect and this is what the invocations of the Prophet usually comprised of.

And in this invocation which Siddeeq Al-Ummah [i.e. AbuBakr – radiyallaahu anhu] was taught, the three types of invocations are mentioned. In the beginning of the supplication: [اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِي ظُلْمًا كَثِيرًاO Allaah! I have wronged myself with many wrong]: This clarifies the situation of the one asking; then one says: [وَلَا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلَّا أَنْتَand none forgives except You]: This is about the affair of the one being asked. Then one says: [فَاغْفِرْ لِي – So forgive me]: Here one mentions his need, and then ends the innovation with two Names from Allaah’s Names that necessitates and suitable for what is being requested. [Ref 1]

Ibn Battaal [rahimahullaah] said: In this supplication there’s the fact that it is obligated on a servant of Allaah to be mindful of his Lord in all circumstances even if he is one of those who strives the most in worship, because despite the position of Abu Bakr [radiyallaahu-anhu] in the religion, he was not exempted from having the need for seeking the forgiveness of his Lord. [Ref 2]

Ibn Daqeeq Al-Eed [rahimahullaah] said: This hadeeth passes judgement with regards to making this supplication in Salaah without specifying where it should be performed. However, perhaps the best place in which it is most worthy to be performed are two- either in Sujood or after Tashahud, because they are the two places we have been commanded to make du’aa.  The Prophet [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] said, “And while in prostration, then make effort in supplication”. [Muslim 479]. And regarding Tashahud [i.e. after Tashahud and before Tasleem], he [sallal laahu alayhi-wasallam] said, “Then select the invocation you like best and recite it”. [Bukhaari 835]. Perhaps the best place would be after Tashahud due to the importance given to the affair. [Ref 3]

Ibn Mulqin [rahimahullaah] said, “This hadeeth establishes proof regarding the fact that it is legislated to seek knowledge from the scholars, especially in relation to the supplications of the prayer”. [Ref 4:

[7] Excerpts from Talbees Iblees [The Devil’s Deception]- The Night In Which The Devils Came From Different Places to Plot Against The Messenger And The Supplication Jibreel Taught Him

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Imaam Ibnul Jawzi [rahimahullaah] said: Indeed, Allaah [The Exalted] commanded that one seeks protection against shaytaan when reciting the Qur’an. He [The Exalted] said:

فَإِذَا قَرَأۡتَ ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ فَٱسۡتَعِذۡ بِٱللَّهِ مِنَ ٱلشَّيۡطَـٰنِ ٱلرَّجِيمِ

So when you want to recite the Qur’an, seek refuge with Allah from Shaitan (Satan), the outcast (the cursed one). [Surah An-Nahl. Aayah 98]

And when afflicted with magic, one recites: [قُلۡ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ ٱلۡفَلَقِ – Say “I seek refuge with (Allah) the Lord of the daybreak] to the end of the Surah.  When it is the case that Allah has commanded us to seek refuge against shaytaan’s evil in these two affairs, then how about in other affairs?!

Shaikh Abdur-Razzaaq Al-Badr [may Allaah preserve him] says: To seek Allaah’s refuge before reciting the Qur’aan is legislated because shaytaan is extremely eager to divert a servant from this Great Book; [extremely eager to prevent the servant] from achieving success through the guidance of the Qur’aan, from understanding its meanings and what that necessitates, and from acting upon it. Therefore, it is legislated for the servant to seek Allaah’s Refuge against this shaytaan so that his recitation of the Qur’aan is safe from shaytaan’s whispers, his traps [or oppressive deeds], his arrogance and poetry [i.e. false speech]. [An Excerpt from Sharh Ad-Duroos Al-Muhimmah Li-Aammatil Ummah’ page 13.  By Shaikh Abdur Razzaaq Al-Badr (may Allaah preserve him). The Night In Which The Devils Came From Different Places to Plot Against Allaah’s Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam]

Imaam Ibnul Jawzi [rahimahullaah] said: Abu Tayyaah [rahimahullaah] said, “I asked Abdur Rahmaan lbn Khanbash, ‘Did you meet the Prophet [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam]?’ He said, ‘’Yes.’ I said, ‘What did he do on the night when the devils plotted against him?’ He said, ‘The devils came down from every valley and side road to attack Allaah’s Messenger, and amongst them was a devil that had a torch in his hand wanting to burn Allaah’s Messenger’s face, so Jibreel came down and said, ‘O Muhammad! Say’. He said, ‘What should I say?’ He [Jibreel] said, say:

I seek refuge with Allaah’s perfect words from the evil of his creation, from the evil of what descends from the heavens, from the evil of what ascends into them, from the evil of the trial of day and night, and from the evil of every knocker, except for a knocker who knocks for a good reason, O Most Merciful!’ So their fire was extinguished and Allaah subdued them’”. [Reported by Imaam Ahmad 15034. Declared Saheeh by Imaam Albaanee in Saheeh Al-Jaami 74]

lbn Abbaa [radiyallaahu-anhumaa] said, “Allaah’s Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] used to seek refuge with Allah for Al-Hasan and Al-Husayn [radiyallaahu-anhumaa] saying: [أُعيذُكما بكلماتِ اللهِ التَّامَّةِ مِن كلِّ شيطانٍ وهامَّةٍ ومِن كلِّ عينٍ لامَّةٍ  – “O Allah! I seek refuge with Your perfect words from every devil and from poisonous pests and from every evil, harmful, envious eye.”  Then he would say, ‘This is how my forefather Ibraaheem [alayhis salaam] sought refuge with Allah for Ismaa’eel and Ishaaq [alayhimas salaam]’”. Too Much Speech About Sound Manhaj [Methodology] And Studying It Hardens The Heart!

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Question to Shaikh Rabee [may Allaah preserve him]: What is your view regarding the one who says, “Too much speech about Manhaj [i.e. sound methodology that distinguishes the Salafi Methodology from the groups of bidah] hardens the heart?”

Answer: The Shaikh [may Allaah preserve him] firstly questions the deviated view presented in the question with exclamation marks, in order to make the listener realise its falsity and acknowledge the opposite of it; then he stated as follows: “Too much speech about sound Manhaj and studying it hardens the heart; but calling to fictitious [beliefs, deeds, ideas, views etc], bidah, misguidance and the ideas of the khawaarij softens the hearts!!!  The call to sound methodology – the call to the Book of Allaah and the Sunnah of the Messenger [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam], and what the Book of Allaah and the Sunnah of Messenger contains regarding [sound] creed, [sound] acts of worship, [sound] deeds and [sound] rectification of the [Islamic] Methodology- is a great affair which must be [established]. The affairs of misguidance [that have been innovated in this sound] methodology are numerous, and regardless how much a person speaks [about sound methodology], his efforts are little in comparison to what the affair requires. At present we speak about sound methodology, but has it reached all the Muslims?! But speech based on the path of the Tableeghees, the Ikhwaanees, the people of misguidance, the people of bidah, the [carriers] of fictitious views, deviated views, [deviated] political views softens the heart! Is this a correct statement? This is the speech of the foolish ones – those who are fed up with the true Islamic methodology, so they utter the likes of this false speech that hinders [people] from the path of Allaah”.

[2] Excerpts from Talbees Iblees [The Devil’s Deception] by Imaam Ibnul Jawzi- [The Command to Adhere to The Sunnah and The Jamaa’ah]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Imaam Ibnul Jawzi [rahimahullaah] said:

The Command to Adhere to The Sunnah and The Jamaa’ah

Ibn Umar narrated that Umar Ibn Al-Khattaab [radiyallaahu-anhumaa] gave a speech in the city of Jaabiyah and said, “Once Allaah’s Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] stood amongst us and said: ‘Whoever amongst you wishes for the best of Paradise, then let him adhere to Jamaa’ah, for indeed shaytaan is with a person who is on his own and he is more distant from two people’”. [Reported by Imaam At-Tirmidhee 2165. Declared Saheeh by Imaam Albaanee in Saheeh al-Jaami 2546]

Jaabir Bin Samrah [radiyallaahu-anhu] said, “Umar addressed the people at Jaabiyah and said, ‘Indeed, Allaah’s Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] stood in the manner I am standing and then said, ‘Whoever wants to attain the best of paradise, then let him adhere to the Jamaa’ah, for indeed shaytaan is with one who is alone and he is more distant from two people’”.  [Imaam At-Tirmidhee said, “This hadeeth is Hasan Saheeh]

Umar Ibnul Khattaab said, “Allaah’s Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] said, ‘Whoever wants the best of paradise, then let him adhere to the Jamaa’ah, for indeed shaytaan is with one who is alone and more distant from two people’”.

Abdullaah Bin Deenaar [rahimahullaah] reported from Umar [radiyallaahu-anhu] who said, “Allaah’s Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] said, ‘Whoever is pleased that he should dwell in the best of paradise, then let him adhere to the Jamaa’ah, for indeed shaytaan is with one who is alone and more distant from two people’”. [Silsilah As-Saheehah 430]

Arfajah [radiyallaahu-anhu] said, “I heard Allaah’s Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] say, ‘Allaah’s Hand is with the Jamaa’ah and shaytaan is with the one who opposes the Jamaa’ah’” [Reported by Imaam An-Nasaa’ee 4020. Declared Saheeh by Imaam Albaanee in Saheeh Al-Jaami 3621]

Usaamah Bin Shareek [rahimahullaah] said, “I heard Allaah’s Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] say, ‘Allaah’s Hand is with the Jamaa’ah, and if a person isolates them, then shaytaan seizes him just as a wolf seizes a sheep from a flock”. [Reported by Al-Laalikaa’ee in I’tiqaad Ahlis Sunnah 1/99. See Majmah Az-Zawaa’id 5/218]

Abdullaah [Ibn Mas’ood (radiyallaahu-anhu)] said, “Allaah’s Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] drew a line with his hand, then said, ‘This is Allah’s Straight Path’; then he drew lines to its right and left and said, ‘These are the [other] paths, and there is not a path from them, except that there is a shaytaan calling to it’; then he recited:

وَأَنَّ هَذَا صِرَاطِي مُسْتَقِيمًا فَاتَّبِعُوهُ وَلا تَتَّبِعُوا السُّبُلَ

“And this is my straight path, so follow it, and do not follow the (other) paths.” [Surah Al-An’aam. Aayah 53]

[Reported by Imaam Ahmad 4423. Declared Saheeh by Imaam Albaanee in at-Tawassul. Page 125]

Ibn Umar [radiyallaahu-anhumaa] said, “Allaah’s Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] said: ‘That which happened to Bani Israa’eel will happen to my Ummah foot step by foot step, to the extent that if one of them engaged in sexual intercourse with his mother openly, there will be one from my Ummah who will do that. And indeed, Bani Israa’eel split into seventy-two sects and my Ummah will split into seventy-three sects, all of which will be in the Hellfire, except one’; so they said, ‘O Messenger of Allaah! Which one is it?’ He said, ‘The one upon that which I and my Companions are upon’”. [Reported by Imaam At-Tirmidhee 2641 and declared ‘Hasan’ by Imaam Albaanee in Saheeh Al-Jaami 5343]

Mu’awiyah Ibn Abee Sufyaan [radiyallaahu-anhumaa] stood and said, “Indeed, Allaah’s Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] stood amongst us and said, ‘Indeed, the people of the Scripture before you split into seventy-two sects and indeed this Ummah will split into seventy-three sects; seventy two are in the Hellfire and one in paradise, and it is the Jamaa’ah. And indeed there will appear a people from my Ummah in whom desires will run through them just as rabbis runs through the one afflicted by it”. [Reported by Imaam Abu Daawud 4597. Declared Saheeh by Imaam Albaanee in Saheeh Al-Jaami 2641]

Callers to The Path of Allaah, Especially Those Upright Students Who Fulfil a Difficult Fardu Kifaayah, Might Not Only Face Harmful Opponents And Coercers, But Also Might Face Annoyance of Discouragers And Depreciators!

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allaah [The Most High] said:

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [rahimahullaah] said:

A man asked Imaam Ash-Shaafi’ee [rahimahullaah] and said, “What would be better – that one is granted strength and the authority to establish the path of Allaah and His Messengers without any hindrance from those who belie or oppose Allaah and His Messengers, or face trials [at first]?’’ So, Ash- Shaafi’ee said to him, “One will not be given strength and the authority to follow the path of Allaah without any hindrance from those who belie or oppose Allaah and His Messengers until after facing trials; for indeed Allaah tried Nooh, Ibraaheem, Moosaa, Eesaa and Muhammad; so, after they exercised patience, they were granted authority and strength to establish the path of Allaah without hindrance’’. Therefore, one should never think that he will escape pain. [Ref 1]

This is a great principle; therefore, it is obligated on a sane person to be acquainted with it. Everyone will face afflictions, for indeed a person is a social being who must live with [other] people; the people have wants [or desires, wishes etc] and perceptions, and will seek to make him agree with them. If he disagrees with them, they harm and punish him; but if he agrees with them, sometimes they harm him and at other times he is harmed by others.

Whoever examines his circumstances and that of the people will find that this does occur a lot. Take for example the case of a people who desire lewd conduct and wrong doing -who make false statements related to religion or utter shirk – and commit sins similar to that which Allaah stated in Surah Al- A’raaf Aayah 33 [Ref 2], whilst they are in a place- such as a campus, a convoy, a large block of public buildings with stores, workshops, or a roofed market place, bazaar, a school, a hospice, a town, a narrow mountain pass or a city- with other people and are not able to commit [the evil] they desire, unless others either agree with them or refrain from rebuking them; therefore, they either seek the approval of others or ask them to keep quiet; if they [i.e. those asked to agree with evil] agree or refrain from rebuking the [perpetrators], they are saved from their evil in the beginning; but then they are the ones responsible for giving the upper hand to the perpetrators, who will humiliate and punish them in a manner that is more severe than what they feared at first, such as asking them for a false testimony or to utter false statements about the religion or to aid them commit lewd conduct and oppression. If they reject the request [of the perpetrators], they are harmed and shown enmity; but if they agree, they are responsible for subduing themselves and thus are humiliated more than what they feared at first or they are punished by others. Therefore, that which is obligated is what Aa’isha [radiyallaahu-anhaa] said to Mu’aawiyah [radiyallaahu-anhumaa]: “Indeed, whoever seeks the pleasure of the people at the expense of Allaah’s Pleasure will (earn) Allaah’s displeasure and Allah will cause the people to be displeased with him. And the praise of the people will become blame against him. And whoever seeks Allaah’s Pleasure at the expense of people’s pleasure, will (earn) Allaah’s Pleasure and Allah will cause the people to be pleased with him”.

This [i.e. seeking after the pleasure of the people at the expense of Allaah’s Pleasure] is perpetrated by those who aid the kings and leaders in their corrupt goals [Ref 3], as well as the people who aid those people of Bidah -who attribute themselves to knowledge and adherence to the religion- to commit their Bidah. As for the one whom Allaah guides and enables to follow guidance in affairs of the religion, he is prevented from committing haraam and exercises patience when harmed and shown enmity. And thereafter, he will receive a praiseworthy outcome in this worldly life and the Aakhirah, similar to what happened to the Messengers and their followers, such as the Muhaajiroon in this Ummah, the [upright] scholars, worshippers, merchants and leaders when they faced those who harmed them and showed them enmity.

Allaah [The Most High] stated in several Aayaat of the Qur’aan that the people will be put to trial through prosperity and adversity; therefore, a person is in need of exercising patience [i.e. in times of adversity] and being thankful to Allaah [i.e. in times of prosperity]. Allaah [The Most High] said: [إِنَّا جَعَلۡنَا مَا عَلَى ٱلۡأَرۡضِ زِينَةً۬ لَّهَا لِنَبۡلُوَهُمۡ أَيُّہُمۡ أَحۡسَنُ عَمَلاً۬ – Verily! We have made that which is on earth as an adornment for it, in order that We may test them (mankind) as to which of them are best in deeds. [i.e. those who do good deeds in the most perfect manner, that means to do them (deeds) totally for Allah’s sake and in accordance to the legal ways of the Prophet] [Surah Al-Kahf’ Aayah 7] [Ref 4]

Allaah [The Most High] said: [ أَمۡ حَسِبۡتُمۡ أَن تَدۡخُلُواْ ٱلۡجَنَّةَ وَلَمَّا يَعۡلَمِ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِينَ جَـٰهَدُواْ مِنكُمۡ وَيَعۡلَمَ ٱلصَّـٰبِرِينَ – Do you think that you will enter Paradise before Allah tests those of you who fought (in His Cause) and (also) tests those who are As-Sabirin (the patient ones, etc.)? [Surah  Aal Imraan’ Aayah 142]

And in Surah Al-Baqarah Allaah [The Most High] said:

Or think you that you will enter Paradise without such (trials) as came to those who passed away before you? They were afflicted with severe poverty and ailments and were so shaken that even the Messenger and those who believed along with him said, “When (will come) the Help of Allah?” Yes! Certainly, the Help of Allah is near! [Surah Al-Baqarah’ Aayah 214]

This is because the soul will not be purified and upright until it is put to test through afflictions, just as gold cannot acquire its pristine state until it is refined to separate it from other less precious metals. Allaah [The Most High] said: [فَٱصۡبِرۡ إِنَّ وَعۡدَ ٱللَّهِ حَقٌّ۬‌ۖ وَلَا يَسۡتَخِفَّنَّكَ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُوقِنُونَ – So be patience. Verily the promise of Allaah is true, and let not those who have no certainty of faith, discourage you from conveying Allah’s Message (which you are obliged to convey)]. [Surah Rum’ Aayah 60]

Unlike the person upon certainty, the person who has no certainty in faith [or lacks certainty] does not remain firm, rather he acts carelessly, whereas certainty is that firm Eemaan in the heart based on [sound] knowledge and action. And it maybe that a person has sound knowledge but does not exercise patience during calamities; rather he is swayed by emotion.  Al-Hasan Al-Basri [rahimahullaah] said: If you wish to see someone with insight but has no patience, you will see him; and if you wish to see someone who has patience but not insight, you will see him; but if you see a person who had insight as well as patience, then he is the one mentioned by Allaah in the Aayah:

[وَجَعَلۡنَا مِنۡہُمۡ أَٮِٕمَّةً۬ يَہۡدُونَ بِأَمۡرِنَا لَمَّا صَبَرُواْ‌ۖ وَڪَانُواْ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا يُوقِنُونَ  – And We made from among them (Children of Israel), leaders, giving guidance under Our Command, when they were patient and used to believe with certainty in Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.)]. [Surah As-Sajdah’ Aayah 24] [5]

Discouragers

Imaam As-Sadi [rahimahullaah] said:

[فَٱصۡبِرۡ إِنَّ وَعۡدَ ٱللَّهِ حَقٌّ۬‌ۖ وَلَا يَسۡتَخِفَّنَّكَ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُوقِنُونَ – So be patient. Indeed, the promise of Allaah is true. And let not those who have no certainty of faith, discourage you from conveying Allah’s Message (which you are obliged to convey)]. [Surah Rum’ Aayah 60]

[فَٱصۡبِرۡ – So be patient]- Meaning, upon that which you have been commanded and in calling them to the [path of] Allaah; even if you see them turning away that should not turn you away from the call. [إِنَّ وَعۡدَ ٱللَّهِ حَقٌّ۬‌ۖ – Indeed, the promise of Allaah is true]- Meaning, there is no doubt about that. And this is from that which aids a person to exercise patience, because when a servant know that his deeds will not be in vain and will find a full reward for it [in the afterlife], then what he faces of hardship will become minor, and it will become much easy for him to bear every difficulty.

[وَلَا يَسۡتَخِفَّنَّكَ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُوقِنُونَ – And let not those who have no certainty of faith, discourage you]- Meaning, their Imaan is weak and their certainty is little, so their forbearance becomes lacking as result of that and their patience is little. So, beware out of fear of being discouraged by these people, because unless you are not careful about their affair, they will discourage you and lead you to not being firm in holding fast to the commands and prohibitions, and the soul may assist them in this affair and seek to be similar and to be in agreement with them. Sensible People Admire The Bravery of Scholars And Students Who Fulfil Difficult Matters of Fard Kifaayah – [Far Removed From The Behaviour of Depreciators and Naïve People]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Imaam Sadi (rahimahullaah) said:

This is a great quality commanded by Allaah in many of the verses concerning Jihaad. He [The One free from all Imperfections] has praised its people and that it is the path of the Messengers and the Truthful ones amongst the creation. He [The One free from all imperfections] forbade that which is in opposition to it, and that is cowardice, dismay and fear of the creation when striving in the path of calling to Allaah. This sublime quality is innate within the slave and it is strengthened by virtue of Eemaan. Bravery strengthens the heart, makes it firm and gives it tranquillity in times of important events and distressful situations. It is a necessity, particularly for those leaders who are engaged in important affairs.

The Qur’aan commands fear of Allaah alone and that the slave is not to fear the creation. The slave’s heart is strengthened when he limits his fear to fearing Allaah Alone, and knows that the creation neither have the ability to benefit nor harm him, except by the will of Allaah. His heart is increased in strength when he places his reliance upon Allaah and is firm, just as Allaah [The Most High] stated about the best of the creation:

ٱلَّذِينَ قَالَ لَهُمُ ٱلنَّاسُ إِنَّ ٱلنَّاسَ قَدۡ جَمَعُواْ لَكُمۡ فَٱخۡشَوۡهُمۡ فَزَادَهُمۡ إِيمَـٰنً۬ا وَقَالُواْ حَسۡبُنَا ٱللَّهُ وَنِعۡمَ ٱلۡوَڪِيلُ

Those unto whom the people said, ”Verily, the people have gathered against you (a great army), therefore, fear them.” But it (only) increased them in Faith, and they said: ”Allaah (Alone) is Sufficient for us, and He is the Best Disposer of affairs (for us)” (3:173)

The slave’s strength and bravery increases when he knows the good reward and recompense that follows on from being strengthened in Bravery and Religion, just as Allaah has stated: [إِن تَكُونُواْ تَأۡلَمُونَ فَإِنَّهُمۡ يَأۡلَمُونَ كَمَا تَأۡلَمُونَ‌ۖ وَتَرۡجُونَ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ مَا لَا يَرۡجُونَ‌ۗ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ عَلِيمًا حَكِيمًا – If you are suffering (hardships) then surely, they (too) are suffering (hardships) as you are suffering, but you have a hope from Allaah (for the reward, i.e. Paradise) that for which they hope not] (4:104)

And that which is observed and known about the state of affairs and characteristics of the creation is that they neither own anything of benefit nor assistance and protection; they do not desire good for you, except with regards to that which is of benefit to them. Therefore, it must be known that attaching the heart to them with Fear, Veneration, Awe, Fervent Desire and Reverence is a loss, rather it is harm.

Indeed, it is obligated on the slave to attach his Fear, Hope, Expectation and Awe to Allaah (Alone), Who (Alone) owns everything. He [The Most High] is The One who wants good for you when you do not desire it for yourself. He [The Most High] knows what is for your well-being and you do not know. He [The Most High] enables you to receive that which you do not have any ability to [receive by yourself]. The slave realizes that cowardice is an illness and a weakness in the heart, which causes abandonment of good and loss of beneficial things. It afflicts the weak ones, and the one afflicted by it is similar to timid women.

And amongst the benefits of Bravery are: The commands of Allaah and His Messenger are fulfilled, and [because of it] one is described with the characteristics of the people of insight amongst the men of understanding. And there cannot be a greater means to obtaining that which is sought after and a means to safety from difficulties and troubles when the heart is strengthened with what Allaah sends down upon it of relief and tranquillity. The brave individual is enabled to guide and benefit the creation with wisdom and fair speech in accordance to their different social classes. As for the coward, he misses a great deal of good and fear prevents him from the blessings of his knowledge and from guiding and giving sincere advice to the slaves.

The slave is saved from a lot of hardships through bravery. He finds tranquillity when faced with afflictions and calamities. He responds with what Allaah loves of patience and firmness, whilst hoping for Allaah’s reward. As for the coward, he is distracted and that which is of benefit to him is wasted away when these affairs come to him. He is made to waiver through harmful views, which bring about painful things alongside calamities and difficulties. He loses good and the reward for being placed under hardship. This praiseworthy quality (i.e. bravery) emanates from that excellent and all-inclusive quality of patience. And Allaah knows best. [Fat-hul Raheemil Malikil Allaam Fee Ilmil Aqaa-id Wat-Tawheed Wal Akhlaaq Wal Ahkaam. Page 40]

The Importance of Sincere Advice

Umar Ibn Abdul Azeez [rahimahullaah] said: Whoever advises his [Muslim] brother to rectify affairs related to his Deen and gives him insight in a worldly affair of his, then indeed he has perfected their relationship and fulfilled his obligation towards him. [Taareekh At-Tabari 6/572]

Imaam Al-Barbahaaree [rahimahullaah] said: It is not permissible to hide sincere advice from any of the Muslims, whether pious or impious, in matters of the religion. Whoever hides that has acted deceitfully towards the Muslims. Whoever acts deceitfully towards the Muslims has done so towards the religion. Whoever acts deceitfully towards the religion has behaved treacherously towards Allah, His Messenger and the Believers.

Shaikh Ahmad An-Najmi [rahimahullaah] said: I say: The meaning of An-Naseehah is ‘Purity’ and ‘Clearness.’ It is said: [  نصح اللبن – the milk is pure] when it is clear. This is the linguistic meaning of An-Naseehah. In the Sharee’ah, [it means] to inform a Muslim regarding what is obligated on him in relation to the [rights of Allaah or his relationship with Allaah] and His creation without slyness and false courtesy. An-Naseehah is obligatory, even though its obligation varies, and its opposite is Al-Ghish [deception].

Indeed, the Prophet [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] said in the Saheeh Hadeeth, “The religion is Naseehah, the religion is Naseehah, the religion is Naseehah; so, the Sahaabah said, ‘O Messenger of Allaah! To who?’ He said, ‘To Allaah, His Book, His Messenger, to the leaders of the Muslims and their common folk.’”

Abu Hurairah [radiyallaahu anhu] narrated that the Messenger of Allaah [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] passed by a pile of foodstuff, he put his hand in it and found that it was wet. He said, ”What is this, O seller of the foodstuff?” He said, ”It became wet due to the rain O Messenger of Allaah!” He said, ”Why do you not put it on top of the food so that people can see it? Whoever deceives [people] is not from me.” [Muslim 102]

Deception in trade is when one hides a defect [found in the commodity]. And with regards to consultation, it is when one recommends something to a person that is harmful to his religious or worldly affairs.

As for Naseehah Lil-Laah – [sincerity to Allaah]: It is to believe in Allaah [The Most High], single Him out in [His Lordship, Names and Attributes and to single Him out in worship], give precedence to obeying Him over obedience to the creation, fearing the standing in His presence [on the Day of judgement] and to be mindful of Him in private and public.

As for An-Naseehah Li-kitaabihee-[Sincerity to His Book]: It is to recite it, ponder upon its meanings, act upon it and believe in the information it contains. As for Naseehah Li-Rasoolihee – [Sincerity to His Messenger]: It is to testify to that which he has informed [us], fulfil what he  commanded, keep away from what he has forbidden, exalt and honour him [salawaatu wasalaamuhu alayhi].

An-Naseehah Li-A’immatil Muslimeen- [Sincerity to the leaders of the Muslims]: It is to obey them in that which does not necessitate disobedience to Allaah, to refrain from betraying them, send them advice through those who are able to advise them in private, because that is the manner that will be more suitable for advice to be accepted. An-Naseehah Li-Aammatil Muslimeen- [sincerity to the common Muslims]: It is to call them to the path of Allaah, teach them what is beneficial and warn them against that which will harm them.
