The Prophet Drew a Straight Line! [Reminder to Muslim Maths Teachers]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Ibn Mas’ud [may Allaah be pleased with him] reported that Allaah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] drew a line in the sand with his hand and he said, “This is the straight path of Allah”. Then, the Prophet drew lines to the right and left, and he said, “These are other paths, and there is no path among them but that a devil is upon it calling to its way”. Then the Prophet recited the Aayah [وَأَنَّ هَـٰذَا صِرَٲطِى مُسۡتَقِيمً۬ا فَٱتَّبِعُوهُ‌ۖ وَلَا تَتَّبِعُواْ ٱلسُّبُلَ – And verily, this is my Straight Path, so follow it, and follow not (other) paths]. [Surah Al-An’aam. Aayah 153] [Musnad Aḥmad 4423]

Allaah [The Most high] said: [وَعَلَى اللَّهِ قَصْدُ السَّبِيلِ وَمِنْهَا جَائِرٌ – And upon Allah is the responsibility to explain the Straight Path but there are ways that turn aside]. [Surah An-Nahl. Aayah 9]

Az-Zujaaj [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said: “It is Allaah who will clarify the straight path and call to it with Hujaj [clear and overwhelming proofs that defeats all the obstinate and stubborn ones] and Burhaan [proofs that clarify and distinguish between truth and falsehood in everything]. [وَمِنْهَا جَائِر -but there are ways that turn aside]: Ibn Abbaas [may Allaah be pleased with him and his father] said, “They are the different types of desires [i.e. evil desires]”. Ibnul Mubaarak [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “They are the (evil) desires and the innovations in religion”. [Zaadul Maseer Fee Ilmit Tafseer by Imaam Ibnul Jawzi]

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

أَفَمَن زُيِّنَ لَهُ سُوءُ عَمَلِهِ فَرَآهُ حَسَنًا ۖ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ يُضِلُّ مَن يَشَاءُ وَيَهْدِي مَن يَشَاءُ ۖ فَلَا تَذْهَبْ نَفْسُكَ عَلَيْهِمْ حَسَرَاتٍ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَلِيمٌ بِمَا يَصْنَعُونَ

Is he, then, to whom the evil of his deeds made fair-seeming, so that he considers it as good? Verily, Allah sends astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. So destroy not yourself (O Muhammad) in sorrow for them. Truly, Allah is the All-Knower of what they do! [Surah Al-Faatir. Aayah 8]

[أَفَمَن زُيِّنَ لَهُ سُوءُ – Is he, then, to whom the evil of his deeds made fair-seeming] -Meaning, his evil and repugnant deeds have been made fair-seeming to him by shaytaan and beautified in his eyes; [فَرَآهُ حَسَنًا – so that he considers it as good] -Meaning, considers his evil and repugnant deeds to be good like the one whom Allaah has guided to the straight;, but are the two the same? The first one commits evil deeds, considers truth to be falsehood and falsehood to be truth, and the second person performs good deeds, considers truth to be truth and falsehood to be falsehood. However, guidance is in the hands of Allaah, [ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ يُضِلُّ مَن يَشَاءُ وَيَهْدِي مَن يَشَاءُ ۖ فَلَا تَذْهَبْ نَفْسُكَ عَلَيْهِمْ حَسَرَاتٍ – Verily, Allah sends astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. So destroy not yourself (O Muhammad) in sorrow for them]- Meaning, the misguided ones to whom their evil deeds are made fair-seeming and shaytaan hinders them from the truth. Therefore, there is nothing obligated on you (O Muhammad) except to convey the message and there is nothing on you regarding their guidance, rather Allaah is the one who will recompense them for their deeds. [ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَلِيمٌ بِمَا يَصْنَعُونَ- Truly, Allah is the All-Knower of what they do]. [An Excerpt from Tafseer As-Sadi. Slightly paraphrased]

The Jews Divided Into Seventy-one Sects, The Christians Divided into Seventy-two Sects….

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

The Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said,”The Jews were divided into seventy-one sects, one of which is in Paradise and seventy are in the Fire. The Christians were divided into seventy-two sects, seventy-one of which are in the Fire and one is in Paradise.

By the One in Whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, my Ummah will be divided into eventy-three sects, one of which will be in Paradise and seventy-two will be in the Fire”. It was said, “O Messenger of Allaah! Who are they?” He said, “Al-Jamaa’ah”.(1) In another narration, the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said, “My Ummah will divide into seventy-three sects, all of them will be in the Fire except for one, and that is the Jamāʿah”. It was said, “And who are they, O Allāh’s Messenger?” He responded, “That which I and my Companions are upon today”.(2)

Hafs Bin Humaid [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “I said to Abdullaah Ibnul Mubaarak [may Allaah have mercy upon him], ‘How many sects has this Ummah spilt into?’ So he said, ‘The foundation of the sects are four: The shia, the hurooriyyah (i.e. khawaarij), the qadariyyah and the murji’ah. The shia (further) split into twenty-two sects; the hurooriyyah (further) split into twenty-one sects; the qadariyyah (further) split into sixteen sects and the murji’ah (further) split into thirteen sects'”. [Al-Ibaanah of Ibn Battah 1/379-380]

Question to Imaam Abdul Azeez Bin Baaz [may Allaah have mercy upon him]: What is the intent behind the Messenger’s ﷺ statement when he spoke about the Ummah in the hadith: “All of them (the sects) are in the fire except one” and what is that one?. Also, will all the other 72 (deviant) sects be in the fire for eternity? Benefit us.

The answer: The prophet ﷺ said, “The Jews split into 71 sects, meaning all of them are astray and their affair ruined, except one. The Christians split into 72 sects, meaning all of them are astray and their affair ruined, except one. And this Ummah will split into 73 sects- all of them in the fire, except one. This one group is Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jamaa’a [those who firmly adhere to the authentic Prophetic Sunnah and are united upon that] – the companions of the Prophet and those who follow them exactly in faith, the adherents to pure Islamic monotheism and sound faith.

As for the other 72 sects that have been threatened with the fire, among them is one who is a disbeliever (ref a), among them is one who is a sinner and among them is one about whom it is established with clear evidence that he is an innovator in religious affairs. So, the one – among them – that dies in a state of disbelief (ref b) will be in the fire for eternity, the one that dies in a state of adherence to religious innovation that is lesser than major disbelief (ref c) or sins is under the will of Allah, while still threatened with the fire. So, based on this it is known that not all of them are disbelievers, but rather among them is a disbeliever and other than him among the sinners and the innovators in religious affairs. (0.1)

[Refs a and b]: NB: Takfeer – declaring that a Muslim left the fold of Islaam is a judgement that can only be given by the upright scholars and none else: https://www.manhaj.com/manhaj/articles/obkwf-takfir-and-the-excuse-of-ignorance-shaykh-saalih-al-fawzaan.cfm

[Ref c]: NB: All religious innovations are evil, but there are those that will exit a person from the fold of Islaam (Bida’atul Mukaffirah) and those that do not exit a person from the fold of Islaam (Bida’atul Mufassiqah). Al-Allaamah Rabee Bin Haadee Al-Madkhalee [may Allaah preserve him] was asked whether there is a difference between Bidah Al-Mukaffirah and Bidah Al-Mufassiqah; so he replied that there is Bidah Mukaffirah, such as rejecting the Ruyah (i.e. denying that the believers will see Allaah in the afterlife); rejecting Allaah’s Uluww [i.e. denying that Allaah is above his creation –Allaah ascended over the Throne in a way that benefits his majesty)]; invoking other than Allaah; offering slaughtered sacrifice (i.e. animals) to other than Allaah etc. These are affairs of Bidah Al-Mukaffirah (the bidah that is tantamount to disbelief). But we do not make Takfeer of the people who commit this type of Bidah until we establish the proofs against them. That is because some of them (i.e. the people who fall into these affairs) carry doubts and are far away from the era of Prophethood and its light (i.e. guidance). So they fall into the likes these innovations. Rejecting the Ruyah is disbelief; rejecting Allaah’s Uluww is disbelief; the saying that the Qur’aan is created is disbelief-major disbelief. But this person, -[who testifies that none has the right to be worshipped except Allaah and that Muhammad is the messenger of Allaah, and he prays, observes fasting, wants paradise and believes in that] -received the doubts of the people of falsehood, so he falls into the likes of these affairs (i.e. these innovations that are tantamount to disbelief). So we say to him: You have fallen into disbelief and the evidence is this and this, and we clarify for him. So if Allaah grants him Tawfeeq and he returns to the truth, then all praise is due to Allaah. But if not, we declare him a disbeliever after establishing the proofs against him. As for Bidah Al-Mufassiqah it is other than this (i.e. it is not at the level of that which is tantamount to disbelief)…[A paraphrased excerpt. see http://www.rabee.net/ar/questions.php?cat=26&id=484 ]

Some of The Most Well-Known Sects Amongst The Jews Who Either Deviated From The Sound Teachings of Their Prophets or Disbelieved In The Final Messenger Muhammad

* The Fareesiyyoon (Pharisees) or hard-liners: “They were also called Rabbis, erudite scholars, brothers for the sake of God, and they are monastic mystics. They believe in resurrection, in the angels and in the Afterlife. They also believe that the Torah is not the only holy book that is depended upon, but rather there are oral narratives that were later written and called the Talmud”.

* The Saddaaqiyyoon (Sadducees): “It was a name given to them because they were known to be deniers, so their enemies called them sedducees, because they denied the resurrection, the recompense, the paradise, the fire, the existence of the angels, the awaited Messiah. They believed that the reward for good deeds is a blessing and only something good in this life, and that evil deeds brings about crises and troubles for its doer”.

*The Saamirah: “They were a people who lived in the mountains of Jerusalem. They entered Judaism but they were not from the children of Israel. They affirmed the Prophethood of Moosaa, Haaroon and Yu’sha bin Noon [peace be upon them], but not the Prophethood of those after them. Their Qiblah was towards a mountain between Jerusalem and Nablus called Grezim. Their language is not the Hebrew language of the Jews, but rather a language close to it. This sect splintered into many groups which have different rulings and laws. They acknowledge the hereafter, reward and punishment in the hereafter, and some of their groups claim that the reward and punishment is only limited in this world”.

*The Muta’assibah (or Fanatical Partisans): “They were a group whose thought was close to that of the Pharisees, but they were very aggressive and believed in assassinating anyone who disagreed with them. They were also called Saffaakoon [Those Eager to Commit Murder], and they committed pillage, plunder, and transgressed against everyone who accepts submission to others besides them. Hostility occurred between them and the Pharisees because the Pharisees submitted to the Romans. Some of the researchers consider them to be from the political or nationalistic sects, even though their movement started within a religious framework, but great was their crimes which they committed from one place to another”.

*The Qurraa’oon (Reciters): “They were a small group of Jews and were given this name because they were reciters of the Torah. They appeared after the decline of the Pharisees. They only recognized the Old Testament, and they neither submit to the Talmud nor acknowledge it because they believe that they have freedom to explain the Torah and rectify the mistakes that occurred in some of its explanations”.

*The Al-Katabatu- (The Writers or Scribes): “This name was given to a group of Jews whose profession was to write the law for those who request it, and their job, besides writing and transcribing, was to preach, in order to obtain money from copying the law and preaching. And they have titles such as “Al-Hukamaa- Wise Men”. They established schools for education and the goal behind that was to gather money”.

*The Saba’iyyah: “They were the followers of Abdullah bin Saba, who entered Islam to (attempt) destroying it from within. He was the one who provoked the people against Uthmaan Bin Affaan [may Allaah be pleased with him] until he was murdered. He fabricated ahadeeth and he was the pioneer of political strife in Islam”. (3)

Al-Allaamah Rabee Bin Haadee Al-Madkhalee [may Allaah preserve him] stated: Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “The people in their pursuit of knowledge and religion have two innovated paths and a path legislated in the Sharee’ah. The path of the Islamic legislation is to look at that which the Messenger brought, utilise it as evidence and act upon that which it necessitates; therefore, there has to be knowledge based on that which he [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] came with and to act upon it, and only one of them is not enough. This path is built upon the sound intellectual proofs and the sound proofs that are based on absolute certainty (in conformity with the revelation), because indeed the Messenger clarified the sound intellectual proofs whose limits are determined by the (infallible) divine texts and the Messengers clarified the sound rational proofs which the people are in need of, just as Allaah put forth in the Qur’an every kind of similitude. This is the straight path which Allaah commanded His servants to ask Him to guide them to.

As for the two innovated paths, one of them is the path of the people of innovated theological speech and views, for indeed there is much falsehood in this. Many of its people become negligent in the deeds commanded by Allaah and His Messenger, so they remain upon corruption in knowledge and deeds. These people stray towards false Judaism.

The second is the path of people who employ ways of strengthening the soul, the people of the Soofi paths and innovated acts of worship. These ones stray towards false Christianity, because they say that if a person purifies his soul based on the manner in which they have stated, then the sciences of the religion will come to him in abundance without learning. The acts of worship of many amongst these people are innovated; rather they are in opposition to that which the Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] came with and thus they remain upon corruption in their deeds and corruption due to deficiency in knowledge, since they do not know what the Messenger came with. These people often malign one another and every group speaks ill against the other, whilst each of them claims to be following the Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam]; however, what the Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] came with is neither in agreement with what these ones say and what those ones say. “Ibrahim (Abraham) was neither a Jew nor a Christian, but he was a true Muslim Hanifa (Islamic Monotheism – to worship none but Allah Alone) and he was not one who associated partners to Allaah in worship”. [Surah Aal Imraan. Aayah 67]

Neither the Messenger of Allaah [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] nor his companions were upon the path of the people of religions innovations amongst the proponents of Theological Rhetoric and Views, nor upon the path of the people of religious innovations amongst the proponents of innovated worship and Soofiyyah; rather he was upon that which Allaah sent him with based on the Qur’aan and Sunnah”. Appeasement, Lies, Tricks and Evil Desires In Religious Affairs In Our Era!

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Imaam Muhammad Bin Abdul Wahhaab [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said: They [i.e. people of the pre-Islamic era of ignorance] followed their sinful scholars and ignorant ones devoted to worship. Allaah said:

O you who believe! Verily, there are many of the (Jewish) rabbis and the (Christian) monks who devour the wealth of mankind in falsehood, and hinder (them) from the Way of Allaah (i.e. Allaah’s Religion of Islaamic Monotheism). [Surah At-Tawbah. Aayah 34]

Allaah said:

Exceed not the limits in your religion (by believing in something) other than the truth, and do not follow the vain desires of people who went astray in times gone by, and who misled many, and strayed (themselves) from the Right Path. [Surah Al-Maa’idah. Aayah 77]

Al-Allaamah Saaleh Al-Fawzaan [may Allaah preserve him] stated: And from affairs of the pre-Islamic era of ignorance is that (they) were guided by sinful scholars. The Faasiq (sinner) is one who deviates from obedience to Allaah by knowledge and action, and the sinful scholars are those who do not act upon their knowledge, or those who utter lies against Allaah whilst being aware of that, saying, “This is permissible and this is impermissible”, whilst knowing that they are liars, and in order that they may obtain what they covet, follow desires under the auspices that they are scholars and that the people consider them trustworthy. And the sinful worshippers are those who act without knowledge. The people consider them trustworthy and say, “These ones are righteous”.

Therefore, do not be inclined towards the scholar or the one devoted in worship until each one of them is one upright upon the religion ordained by Allaah [The Mighty and Majestic]. Allaah said about the Jews and the Christians:

يَـٰٓأَيُّہَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓاْ إِنَّ ڪَثِيرً۬ا مِّنَ ٱلۡأَحۡبَارِ وَٱلرُّهۡبَانِ لَيَأۡكُلُونَ أَمۡوَٲلَ ٱلنَّاسِ بِٱلۡبَـٰطِلِ وَيَصُدُّونَ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ‌ۗ

Aayah 34]

They (Jews and Christians) took their rabbis and their monks to be their lords besides Allaah].

They (i.e. the rabbis and the monks) made lawful for them that which is unlawful and they obeyed them, and they made unlawful for them that which is lawful and they obeyed them. So they became lords besides Allaah, because to declare something lawful or unlawful is the right of Allaah. It is not allowed for anyone to declare something lawful or unlawful based on his desires, self-interest, to appease people and being in conformity with them. At present there are those who play tricks with the Sharee’ah. They make lawful that which is unlawful in order to be in conformity with the people, and to please the people. And with these assumptions of theirs, they solicit trickery and make concessions, (see footnote 1) or lie against Allaah; that Allaah has declared this lawful and that unlawful for the benefit of such and such (individual). These ones are the sinful scholars. And the faasiq (the sinner) is the one who deviates from obedience to Allaah.

Allaah [The Exalted] said: [يَـٰٓأَيُّہَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓاْ إِنَّ ڪَثِيرً۬ا مِّنَ ٱلۡأَحۡبَارِ – O you who believe! Verily, there are many of the ahbaar (Jewish) rabbis and the ruhbaan (Christian) monks]…

This is a warning to the believers. The ‘ahbaar’ are the scholars, and in most cases it is a reference to the Jewish scholars; and the ‘ruhbaan’ are the worshippers, and in most cases it is a reference to the Christian worshippers. The Christians are attributed to monasticism and the Jews attributed to knowledge, but the Jews are those who have earned the Anger of Allaah and the Christians are those who have been led astray (i.e. those amongst them who deviated from the path of their Prophets and rejected the path of Muhammad). Allaah commanded us to say in every rakah in the prayer: [صِرَٲطَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَنۡعَمۡتَ عَلَيۡهِمۡ – Guide us to the Straight Way]- these are the people of knowledge and action; [غَيۡرِ ٱلۡمَغۡضُوبِ عَلَيۡهِمۡ – Not (the way) of those who earned Your Anger]- these are the people who possess knowledge but do not act, and they are the evil sinful scholars; [وَلَا ٱلضَّآلِّينَ – nor of those who went astray]- these are the monks amongst the Christians and other than them. They worship Allaah without evidence and proof, rather they worship Allaah through innovations, newly invented matters and superstitions. Allaah forbade us (from following/resembling) the evil sinful scholars and the misguided worshippers. And Allaah commanded us to adhere to the truth with evidence from the Book of Allaah and the Sunnah of His Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him].

At present when someone desires something he would say, “Such and such a person has given a verdict on this (affair)” without considering whether it has a basis in the Book and the Sunnah. And you say to him, “This verdict is wrong”, he says, “It has nothing to do with me” as long as the verdict was given by such and such (person)”. And if the verdict is not in agreement with his desires, he says, “This verdict is not correct or it is a harsh one”. They gather lies and the mistakes of the scholars in a book and present it to the people, and spread it amongst the people with their assumptions, saying, “The Religion of Islam is easy. It does not make things uneasy for the people”. And when it is said to them, “Examine it (i.e. these verdicts) under the Book and Sunnah”, they say, “These are statements of the scholars”. Is the scholar greater than the Book and the Sunnah? Are his statements not to be examined under the Book and the Sunnah!? This is how the people of desires act, and Allaah’s Refuge is sought. They are those who ‘took their rabbis and monks to be lords besides Allaah’. (see footnote 2)

And when they are forbidden from innovation in religious affairs about which the Messenger of Allaah warned against, they say, “Such and such a person acts upon this and he is a scholar or that he is a righteous person”, “And that this is acted upon by the people of such and such a country and they are people who possess righteousness and piety”. We say, righteousness and piety does not suffice, rather there has to be conformity to the Book and the Sunnah. Therefore, to take the statements of the scholars and the worshippers as sound legal verdicts without examination under the Book and the Sunnah was a way of the people of the pre-Islamic era of ignorance, and they are those who took their rabbis and their monks as lords besides Allaah. [An Excerpt from Sharh Masaa’il Al-Jaahiliyyah. pages 74-77]

Footnote 1: Ruling on following the legislated concessions: https://atomic-temporary-194201713.wpcomstaging.com/2016/05/03/ruling-on-following-the-legislated-concessions-shaykh-fawzaan/

Footnote 2: Shaikh Abdul Waahid Abu Khadeejah [may Allaah preserve him] quotes Al-Allaamah Ahmad Bin Yahyah An-Najmi [may Allaah have mercy upon him] as follows: Then Shaikhul-Islaam mentioned the saying of Allaah: [اتَّخَذُوا أَحْبَارَهُمْ وَرُهْبَانَهُمْ أَرْبَابًا مِّن دُونِ اللَّهِ – They have taken their “ahbaar” and “ruhbaan” as lords besides Allah..] [at-Tawbah: 31]

The “Ahbaar” are the scholars, and the “Ruhbaan” are the general worshippers – and the habit of the people is to refer back to these two groups and take to their speech and opinions. Allaah, the Mighty and Majestic, rebuked the unbelievers because they took the Ahbaar and Ruhbaan (the scholars and worshippers) as Lords besides Allaah whereby they made them as legislators of Religious Law (i.e. the Revelation). They would make halaal for them that which Allaah had made haraam, so they would then consider it to be halaal. And they would make haraam for them that which Allaah had made halaal, so they would then consider it to be haraam. This however does not necessitate, in an absolute sense, exiting from Islaam, rather this point it requires further explanation. So sometimes the one who falls into this reaches the point whereby he exits Islaam, and this is when they take them as legislators of Religious Law (i.e. the Revelation). So they take their legislation and they give it precedence over an above that which Allaah has legislated in His Book, and that which the Messenger (sallallaahu ‘alaihi wassallam) legislated, and they believe that this legislation that is not from Allaah and His Messenger is equal to Allaah’s Legislation or an increase upon it.

However, if they seek verdicts (fatwas) from them and they issue fatwas making haraam what is halaal, or making halaal what is haraam. So they obey them in making haraam the halaal matters, and making halaal the haraam matters by way of acting upon those verdicts – and the people obey them whilst they know they are sinning and they affirm the fact that it is a sin, yet they still follow them but they know internally what is halaal is halaal and what is haraam is haraam. This is then a major sin. https://abukhadeejah.com/ahmad-an-najmees-kitaab-at-tawheed-chapter-5-the-explanation-of-tawheed-and-the-shahaadah-laa-ilaaha-illallaah/

“Neither Judge Nor Harbour Evil Suspicion Because You Don’t Know Whether He Repented From His Bidah!”

Question to Al-Allaamah Saaleh Al Fawzaan [may Allaah preserve him]: There some callers about whom is it stated that they have have left the wrong methodology they were upon in the past, such as Takfeer and inciting the common people against the Muslim Rulers, finding fault with the scholars, commending the proponents of innovations in religious affairs and what is similar to that; but there a number of affairs noticed with regards to this: Firstly, these callers have not clearly announced their repentance. Secondly, their books and audio cassettes filled with incitement, Takfeer and commending the proponents of innovations in religious affairs are spread in the internet, and those it belongs to have not declared their innocence from what is contained in them of falsehood. Thirdly, some of them have not ceased following the methodology they were upon in the past. What should be our stance towards these people and what are the conditions of repentance for the likes of these ones? May Allaah bless you.

Answer: Whoever used be upon a wrong methodology, then it is not enough to publicize that he has turned away from it until he clearly announces that he has turned away (from it) and acknowledges his error. Allaah [The Exalted] said: [إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ تَابُواْ وَأَصۡلَحُواْ وَبَيَّنُواْ – Except those who repent and do righteous deeds, and openly declare (the truth)].[Surah Al-Baqarah. Aayah 160]

When Abul Hassan Al-Ash’ari [may Allaah have mercy upon him] turned away from the methodology of the Mutazilah, he stood on the mimbar in the main city mosque and announced his (repentance), and his books such as Al-Ibaanah and Al-Maqaalaat are a declaration of that. Likewise, whoever was upon a wrong methodology and has followers or written works or wrong statements, then he must announce that when he turns away from -refute and criticize his errors.

Who is The Most Disobedient Person In His Opposition Against Allaah’s Messenger? – By Imaam Ibnul Qayyim

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allaah [The Most High] also said:

[يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَا تُقَدِّمُوا بَيْنَ يَدَيِ اللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ ۖ وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ – O you who believe! Do not put (yourselves) forward before Allah and His Messenger, and fear Allah. Verily! Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing. Raise not your voices above the voice of the Prophet..] [Surah Al-Hujuraat Aayaat 1 & 2]

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said:

When it is the case that Allaah forbade us from giving precedence to (ourselves) over the Messenger, then which type of giving precedence to oneself over the Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] can be more severe than giving precedence to one’s intellect over the revelation he was sent with? Many of the pious predecessors have stated (that this Ayah means), “Do not say anything [about the religion] until the Messenger speaks and do not act until he commands you”. The most disobedient person amongst the people and the most severe with regards to giving precedence to himself over the Messenger is that one who gives precedence to his intellect or the intellect of another person over the revelation (i.e. the Qur’an and Sunnah) the Messenger was sent with. And when it is the case that Allaah has indeed forbidden them from raising their voices above the voice of the Messenger, then how about raising their intellects above the statements of the Messenger and the revelation he came with?! (1)

Allaah (The Most High) said:

Make not the calling of the Messenger [Muhammad] among you as your calling of one another. Allah knows those of you who slip away under shelter [of some excuse without taking the permission to leave, from the Messenger]. And let those who oppose the Messenger’s [Muhammad] commandment [i.e. his Sunnah legal ways, orders, acts of worship, statements, etc.] [among the sects] beware, lest some Fitnah befall them or a painful torment be inflicted on them. [Surah An-Noor. Aayah 63]

Allaah said: [فَلۡيَحۡذَرِ ٱلَّذِينَ يُخَالِفُونَ عَنۡ أَمۡرِهِۦۤ -And let those who oppose the Messenger’s (Muhammad) commandment (i.e. his Sunnah, orders, acts of worship, statements) beware]; [أَن تُصِيبَہُمۡ فِتۡنَةٌ – lest some Fitnah befall them]: Meaning: [Lest] misguidance, calamity in the worldly life or disbelief[Ref a] befall them. [أَوۡ يُصِيبَہُمۡ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ – or a painful torment be inflicted on them]: Meaning: Killed [i.e. by enemies] in the worldly life or punished in the hell fire in the afterlife. (2)

Imaam Ahmad [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said about this Ayah [i.e. Surah An-Noor. Aayah 63]: Do you know what Al-Fitnah is? Al-Fitnah is Shirk. Perhaps if he [i.e. the person] rejects some of his [i.e. the Prophet’s] statements, then something of deviation enters his heart, so he is destroyed. (3)

Question to Imaam Abdul Azeez Bin Baaz: Shaikh, are the ones who depend on their intellects in understanding many of the affairs of the religion considered to be from those who are mistaken?

Answer: Yes; it is obligated on him not to depend on his intellect, rather he studies the texts and relies on the divine texts from the speech of Allaah and that of Allaah’s Messenger, because there is guidance in it and direction towards good. As for the intellect, it can be right or wrong. The sects that oppose Ahlus sunnah were destroyed due to their intellects. They thought that they had good intellects and that their intellects arrived at what is correct and thus they opposed the texts by way of their stagnant intellects which they thought were sound. What was that which made the Jahmiyyah negate the Perfect Names and Attributes of Allaah, except due to their corrupt intellects?!

What was it that led the Mutazilah to negate the attributes of Allaah and declared that the sinners [i.e. those who die whilst committing the major sins that are lesser that major kufr and major shirk] will remain in the fire forever, except due to their corrupt intellects?! Likewise, is the case of their followers who utter this same speech.
What led the Khawaarij to excommunicate the people due to committing sins – that the sinner is a disbeliever and that he will remain in the fire forever, except due to their corrupt intellects. Likewise. this is the case regarding other than them amongst the proponents of Bidah. The intellects which they depend upon is that which destroy them, because they think that their intellects are safe, sound, good and infallible, whereas that is not the case; rather it is not infallible – commits mistakes a lot; however they hold a good suspicion regarding their intellects and an evil suspicion regarding the texts and thus they are destroyed.

It is obligatory to harbour a good suspicion regarding the texts and an evil suspicion regarding the intellect, and to submit the intellects to the texts. The texts are infallible if their chain of transmission are established to be authentic. As for the intellects, they are fallible. A person susceptible to mistakes, shortcoming and desires. As for the Messenger, that which he conveyed from Allaah is infallible, and likewise the Qur’aan is infallible- the speech of Allaah. Therefore, it is obligatory that the Qur’aan and Sunnah passes a judgement on your intellect and that you give precedence to the Qur’aan and Sunnah over your intellect- over the intellect of the Shaikh, the Mashaayikh, your forefathers, ancestors and all the people. The texts are given precedence over all the intellects. (4)

Imaam Ahmad Ibn Hanbal [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said:

All praise is due to Allaah, who in every age and interval between the Prophets, raises up a group from the people of knowledge, who call the misguided to guidance, patiently bear ill-treatment and harm. With the Book of Allaah they give life to the dead and with the Light of Allaah they give sight to the blind. How many a person killed by Iblees (the Devil) they have revived, how beautiful their effect has been upon the people, and how vile the people have been towards them! They remove from Allaah’s Book the alterations of those going beyond bounds, the false claims of the liars and the false interpretations of the ignoramus- those who uphold the banner of innovation and let loose the trials and discords, who oppose the Book and agree upon opposing the Book. They speak about Allaah and his Book without knowledge, argue about what is ambiguous in the Book and deceive the ignorant ones with such ambiguities. We seek refuge in Allaah from the trials of the misguided ones. (5)

What If Shaikhul Islam Ibn Taymiyyah Saw Situation of Many Amongst Groups of Illegal Partisanship – By Al-Allaamah Rabee Bin Haadee

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Al-Allaamah Rabee Bin Haadee Al-Madkhalee [may Allaah preserve him] stated:

After speaking about those – amongst the different factions of the Jahmiyah, the Khawaarij, the Rawaafid and the Qadariyyah, and the reason behind such Takfeer – who excommunicate (Muslims) based on falsehood , Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah [may Allaah have mercy upon him] stated, “On the opposite side of these people who make Takfeer (a) based on falsehood, there are a people who do not know the creed of Ahlus Sunnah Wal-Jamaa’ah as it should be; or they know some of it and are ignorant of some. And perhaps what they know of it, they do not clarify for the people, rather they conceal it. They do they forbid innovations in religious affairs- neither censure the proponents of innovation in religious affairs nor chastise them; rather they may censure speech regarding the Sunnah and the fundamental principles of the religion – completely – and not differentiate between what the true adherents to the Prophetic tradition say and what proponents of religious innovations and schism say; or they would affirm all their differing paths in a manner similar to how the scholars would affirm the different opinions related to affairs of Ijtihaad (b) in which difference of opinion is justified (or allowed). This path has overwhelmed many of the Murji’ah, some of the jurists, those pursuing the path of asceticism and the philosophers, just as it has overwhelmed – first and foremost – many amongst the people of desires and rhetoric. Both these paths are perverted, outside the Kitaab [i.e. The Qur’aan] and the Prophetic tradition”. [End of Quote] (1)

After quoting the statement of Shaikhul Islaam, Al-Allaamah Rabee stated, “I say, may Allaah have mercy on Ibn Tamiyyah. Indeed, he clarified the situation of the people of his era and those before them, then what if he saw the situation of many amongst the Al-Jamaa’aat Al-Hizbiyyah Wal-Bid’iyyah [The Groups of Illegal Partisanship and Innovations in religious affairs] (c)] who ascribe themselves to true adherents to the Prophetic tradition and take cover behind him- in particular – to promote their falsehoods. What if he saw them whilst they have definitely gathered between the paths of the two groups- the khawaarij and those who follow their way in pronouncing Takfeer in the subject matter of Al-Haakimiyyah (d) and the way of the Mur’jiah (e) in the manner they approach the affair of people who are upon the major and numerous innovations in religious affairs, and equating innovation in religion to those affairs of the religion in which Ijtihaad is justified, whose people are rewarded alongside a refutation against their mistakes. In the view of these people, the leaders of Misguidance and innovation in religion are just like the Imaams of Guidance and Sunnah. (2)

Finally, Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyah stated: Rather what is obligatory is to clarify that which Allaah sent His Messengers with and (revealed) in His Books – propagate that which the Messengers brought from Allaah and fulfil the covenant which Allaah took from the scholars. Therefore, it is obligatory to know that which the Messengers brought, believe in it, propagate it, call to it, striving with it, weigh up all that which the people embark upon – (statements, actions, religious fundamentals and subsidiary issues pertaining to the apparent actions of the Limbs and affairs related to actions of the heart)- under the Book of Allaah and the Sunnah of His Messenger; neither following desires (through) customs, a school of law, a religious order, a leader or a predecessor; neither following conjecture through a weak hadeeth nor corrupt analogy, regardless whether it is an analogy that offers some degree of certainty or not; nor blindly following someone whom it is not obligated to follow his statement and deed, because indeed Allaah -in His Book – censured those who follow conjecture and that which their souls desire, whilst they abandon that which came to them from their Lord of Guidance. (3)

Ponder upon the statement of Al-Allaamah Rabee [may Allaah preserve him] as follows, “In the view of these people, the leaders of Misguidance and Bidah are just like the Imaams of Guidance and Sunnah”, and then read this article by Shaikh Abu Iyaad [may Allaah preserve him]: http://www.themadkhalis.com/md/series/the-false-comparison-between-hadith-giants-ibn-hajar-an-nawawi-and-20th-century-ignoramuses.cfm

Beneficial Bitter Medication For One Ranting and Raving When Lies and Bidah of Soofee Hamza Yusuf Are Rebutted!

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Imaam Ibn Rajab [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said: The Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said, “The one who lives long (after me) will see a lot of differences, so beware of the newly invented matters (in the religion) because it is misguidance. So whoever amongst you reaches that (time of differing), then upon him is to adhere to my Sunnah and the Sunnah of the Rightly Guided Khulafaa [i.e. Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthmaan and Ali], and bite onto it with the molars [i.e. cling to it firmly]”. [Abu Dawud 4607; Ahmad 4/126; Tirmidhee 2676] He [peace and blessings be upon him] commanded that during splitting and differing, one should adhere to his Sunnah and the Sunnah of the rightly guided khulafaa after him. The Sunnah is the path that is to be adhered to, and that includes adhering to what he and his rightly guided khulafaa were upon with regards to creed, actions and statements. This is the complete Sunnah. (1)

Imaam Abu Haatim [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said: This is clear evidence that the Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] commanded his Ummah to know the Du’afaa (weak narrators) amongst them and (distinguish) them from the Thiqaat (reliable narrators). That is because the Sunnah cannot be adhered to alongside the lies and falsehood mixed with it, except by way of knowing the Du’afaa and (distinguishing them) from the Thiqaat. (2)

Imaam Al-Awzaa’ee [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “O Muslims! Fear Allaah, accept the advice of the sincere advisers and the admonition of the admonishers. know that this knowledge is religion, so beware of what you do, from whom you take your religion, the one you follow and the one with whom your religion is safe, because indeed all the proponents of religious innovation are all falsifiers, liars and sinners. They are not cautious – neither do they pay attention nor do they fear, and together with that they are not to be trusted that they would not distort what you hear.

They say what they do not know with regards to what they disapprove and when proclaiming their lies; but Allaah (knows, hears and sees) what they do. Therefore, be cautious of them, trust them not, reject them and avoid them, because indeed this is what your earlier scholars did and commanded, and likewise the righteous ones who came thereafter.

Be careful of opposing Allaah and being the means to destroying the religion He has ordained – breaking its commands and prohibitions, nullifying and weakening it by respecting the innovators in religious affairs and those who initiate that which is not from the religion, because you know what has been transmitted (i.e. the prohibitions) about respecting or exalting them. And what can be greater respect and exaltation than acquiring your religion from them- following and believing them, drawing close to them and assisting them in enticing the ones they entice and woo to their views and the religion (i.e. religious innovations) they follow. This is sufficient to be regarded as associates of theirs in what they do”. (3)

Imaam Barbahaaree [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said: “Know that leaving the correct path occurs in two ways. Firstly: that a man strays from the correct path intending nothing but good, so his error is not to be followed since it leads to destruction. Secondly, a man who deliberately opposes the truth and acts contrary to the Pious ones who came before him, he is astray, leading others astray, a rebellious devil within the Ummah. It is a duty upon those who know of him to warn the people against him and to explain his condition to them so that no one falls into his innovation and is destroyed”.

Al-Allaamah Saaleh Al-Fawzaan [may Allaah preserve him] commented on the above statement of Imaam Barbahaaree [may Allaah have mercy upon him] saying: After the Shaikh [i.e. Imaam Barbahaaree] described the correct path in his previous statement-the correct path that is obligated on the Muslim to follow in his Aqeedah and Religion- he then mentioned that the one who leaves the correct path is one of two men: The First Man: Is the one who leaves the [correct path] without the intention [to do so], rather he intended good but followed other than the path of good. Striving [alone] is not sufficient, and even if the person has a righteous intention and a good aim, then that has to be upon the correct path. Therefore, this [person] is considered mistaken and whoever agrees with him upon that and follows with him upon error will be destroyed; because this is a path of destruction even though the [person] did not intend leaving [the correct path]; rather his quest was [to reach something] good. This is the state of many of those who initiate newly invented affairs -from themselves – in the knowledge of Aqeedah (Creed). This affair is not permissible and they should not adhere to it. The person [upon this path] is not upon correctness. Allah [The Mighty and Majestic] said:

[ وَأَنَّ هَٰذَا صِرَاطِي مُسْتَقِيمًا فَاتَّبِعُوهُ ۖ وَلَا تَتَّبِعُوا السُّبُلَ فَتَفَرَّقَ بِكُمْ عَنْ سَبِيلِهِ – And verily, this is my Straight Path, so follow it, and follow not (other) paths, for they will separate you away from His Path]. [6:153]

So we reject any path that exits us from the Straight Path even if the one who [calls] to it aims for good and has a good intention. We do not follow him upon that whilst he continues upon his error, eventually leading to destruction; because whoever abandons the correct path in his journey and takes a path of ruin will be destroyed.

As For The Second Person: It is the one who intends to leave [the correct path]. He knows the truth and that what he embarks upon is falsehood, but he intends to leave the truth with the intention of misguiding the people. So the intention of the first [person] is to bring about benefit for the people, but he did not follow the correct path. The second [person] intended to misguide the people and to turn them away from the correct path. So this one [i.e. the one who intends misguidance for the people] is a devil, because the devils take the people away from the Straight Path. [Allaah informed us that] Iblees said: [لَأَقْعُدَنَّ لَهُمْ صِرَاطَكَ الْمُسْتَقِيمَ -Surely I will sit in wait against them (human beings) on Your Straight Path]. [7:16] So he intends to turn them away from it [i.e. the straight path] and [direct them] towards the deviated paths. The Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] gave us an example when he drew a straight line and drew other lines on its sides, he then said about the straight line: ‘This is the path of Allaah’ and he said about the other lines, ‘These are the other paths, and on each path is a devil calling to it.’ This is a clear example that is in agreement to that which the Shaikh [i.e. Imaam Barbahaaree] has mentioned here. So the one who takes the people away from the Straight Path [and direct them] to the innovated paths of the innovators is not one who intends good for them; rather he intends destruction for them. He is a devil, be it that he is a devil from amongst the Jinn or the People. It is obligated on us to be more careful of this [second ] than the first one [i.e. the person who intends good but was mistaken]; because this one [i.e. the intentionally deviated one] intends to misguide the people.

And regarding the statement of Imaam Barbahaaree: “He is astray, leading others astray, a rebellious devil”, Al-Allaamah Saaleh Al-Fawzaan commented on the above statement, saying: He is misguided and misguiding others. He is a rebellious devil, a rebel intending to turn the people from the Straight Path. And regarding the statement of Imaam Barbahaaree: ”It is a duty upon those who know of him to warn the people against him and to explain his condition to them so that no one falls into his innovation and is destroyed.’ Al-Allaamah Saaleh Al-Fawzaan commented on the above statement, saying: It is not permissible to keep quiet about this one who leaves the truth intentionally; rather it is obligatory to unveil his affair and uncover his vileness until the people are warned about him. And it is not to be said that the people are free to hold views, freedom of speech and respecting the views of others, as say present with regards to [having] respect for the views of others. The affair is not about views; [rather] the affair is about Ittibaa [i.e. following the authentic proofs narrated from the Messenger accompanied with the understanding of the Salaf]. Allah has outlined a clear path for us and He told us to adhere to it, when He [Glorified be He] stated: [وَأَنَّ هَٰذَا صِرَاطِي مُسْتَقِيمًا فَاتَّبِعُوهُ] ‘And verily, this is my Straight Path, so follow it’ [6:153]

So any person comes to us and wants us to leave this straight path, then firstly we reject his statement. Secondly, we clarify and warn the people against him and we do not keep quiet about him; because if we keep quiet about him, the people will be deceived by him, especially if he is an eloquent person, [with] good speech, [skillful] writing and is educated; for indeed the people will be deceived by him and will say, ”this one is competent, this one is from the thinkers,” as is taking place today.

So, the affair is very dangerous and regarding this is a reason to refute the one in opposition, as opposed to what those ones say: [that] ”Abandon the refutations, leave the people, everyone has his own views and have respect for him.” By way of this [having] respect for the views and freedom of speech the Ummah will be destroyed. The Salaf did not keep quiet about the likes of these people; rather they exposed and refuted them due to their knowledge of their danger upon Ummah. We do not keep quiet about their evil; rather that which Allaah has revealed must be clarified. And unless [we do that], we will be from those who conceal the truth-those whom Allah spoke of (saying):

[إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَكْتُمُونَ مَا أَنْزَلْنَا مِنَ الْبَيِّنَاتِ وَالْهُدَىٰ مِنْ بَعْدِ مَا بَيَّنَّاهُ لِلنَّاسِ فِي الْكِتَابِ ۙ أُولَٰئِكَ يَلْعَنُهُمُ اللَّهُ وَيَلْعَنُهُمُ اللَّاعِنُونَ-Verily, those who conceal the clear proofs, evidences and the guidance, which We have sent down, after We have made it clear for the people in the Book, they are the ones cursed by Allaah and cursed by the cursers.'[2:159] And the affair is not limited to the innovator, rather it is extended to the one who keeps quiet about him, for indeed rebuke and punishment is extended to him; because it is obligatory to clarify and made clear for the people…..up until the Sheikh said: So our intention is to clarify the truth. Our intention is not to [merely] disparage the people or to speak about the people. The intent is to clarify the truth and this is a trust entrusted upon the Scholars. It is not permissible to keep quiet about these people. (4)

Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah [may Allaah have mercy upon him] stated, “The Imaams of Ahlus Sunnah Wal-Jamaaa’ah – the people of knowledge and Imaan- are possessors of Knowledge, Justice and Mercy. They know the truth in a manner in which it is [obligated upon] them- in agreement with the Sunnah and free from innovations. They deal justly with those who are outside of it [i.e. those outside the truth and the Sunnah] even if they [i.e. such people] oppress them, as Allaah [The Most High] said:

[وَلَا يَجْرِمَنَّكُمْ شَنَآنُ قَوْمٍ عَلَىٰ أَلَّا تَعْدِلُوا ۚ اعْدِلُوا هُوَ أَقْرَبُ لِلتَّقْوَىٰ -And let not the enmity and hatred of others make you avoid justice. Be just: that is nearer to piety (5:8)] They are merciful towards the creation. They wish goodness for them, guidance and knowledge. They do not set out wishing evil for them; rather when they [i.e. those Imaams of the Sunnah] punish them, clarify their mistakes, ignorant [views, statements and beliefs] and wrong doing, their intention is to clarify the truth, having mercy for the creation, enjoining good and forbidding evil, in order that the entire religion is established sincerely [for the worship of Allaah alone and adherence to the Sunnah of His Messenger], and so that the word of Allaah is made the uppermost”. (5)

Ibn Aqeel [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “There is none more harmful on the sharee’ah than the innovators of the people of kalaam [i.e. the people of philosophical rhetoric] and the ignorant soofees”. (6) He also said, ““If the truthful ones were to keep silent and the falsifiers speak, then the creation would have relinquished what they have witnessed [of truth] and reject what they have not witnessed. So when the devout ones desire to revive the Sunnah, the people would reject it and think that it is bidah”. (6.1)

Al-Allaama Rabee Bin Haadee Al-Madkhalee [may Allaah preserve him] said: Through [Muhammad (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasalam)] Allaah removed us from the darkness of Shirk, indecency and Bidah, evil deeds and bad manners – lying, deceit, quackery, trickery etc. And He (purified us) with pure (Islamic)] monotheism and strong sincere Eemaan. He [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] nurtured us upon truthfulness and took the oath of allegiance from us that we speak the truth wherever we may be, and He warned us against lies and evil deeds. And from the recompense (given) to a liar is that which has been reported from the noble Prophet [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam]- the person of high moral character- who said, “I saw (in a dream) – two men came to me”. Then the Prophet [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasalam] said, “They said, ‘the person- the one whose cheek you saw being torn away (from the mouth to the ear) was a liar and used to tell lies and the people would report those lies on his authority till they spread (that lie) all over the world. So, he will be punished like that till the Day of Resurrection”. [Reported by Imaam Al-Bukhaari: Number: 6096] How numerous are those who tell lies today against the carries of Salafiyyah and its callers! They hinder men from the path of Allaah by way of these lies to aid falsehood, spurious (stances, ideas, views etc), bidah, (views, stances, beliefs, ideas etc) that are destructive to the sound creed, methodology and virtuous manners. World Tarot Day; Rather Call It Shirk (polytheism) or Kufr (disbelief) Day!

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

The Origin of Shirk

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

Mankind were one community and Allah sent Prophets with glad tidings and warnings, and with them He sent the Scripture in truth to judge between people in matters wherein they differed. And only those to whom (the Scripture) was given differed concerning it after clear proofs had come unto them through hatred, one to another. Then Allah by His Leave guided those who believed to the truth of that wherein they differed. And Allah guides whom He wills to a Straight Path. [Surah Al-Baqarah. Aayah 213]

Allaah [The Exalted] said: [وَمَا كَانَ ٱلنَّاسُ إِلَّآ أُمَّةً۬ وَٲحِدَةً۬ فَٱخۡتَلَفُواْ‌ۚ وَلَوۡلَا ڪَلِمَةٌ۬ سَبَقَتۡ مِن رَّبِّكَ لَقُضِىَ بَيۡنَهُمۡ فِيمَا فِيهِ يَخۡتَلِفُونَ – Mankind were but one community (i.e. on one religion – Islamic Monotheism), then they differed (later), and had not it been for a Word that went forth before from your Lord, it would have been settled between them regarding what they differed]. [Surah Yunus. Aayah 19]

Ibn Abbaas [may Allaah be pleased with him and his father] said, “There were ten generations between Nooh and Aadam – all of them used to be upon the true path [i.e. upon Islaam – worshipping Allaah alone], then they differed and started worshipping idols, false deities and images, so Allaah sent Messengers with clear proofs and evidences”. (1)

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

And verily, We have sent among every Ummah (community, nation) a Messenger (proclaiming): “Worship Allah (Alone), and avoid (or keep away from) Taghut (all false deities).” Then of them were some whom Allah guided and of them were some upon whom the straying was justified. So travel through the land and see what was the end of those who denied (the truth). [Surah An-Nahl. Aayah 36]

Al-Allaamah Rabee Bin Haadee [may Allaah preserve him] said, “Shirk is the greatest sin that can be committed in disobedience to Allaah. The Prophets brought the greatest knowledge and that is the knowledge of Tawheed, and they warned against the greatest wrong doing and that is to ascribed partners to Allaah. Allaah said: [ إِنَّ ٱلشِّرۡكَ لَظُلۡمٌ عَظِيمٌ۬ – Verily! Associating partners to (Allaah in worship) is a great wrong indeed] [Surah Luqmaan’ Aayah 13] (2)

Iyaadh Ibn Himaar [may Allaah be pleased with him] reported that Allaah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said, “Verily, my Lord has commanded me to teach you what you do not know, from what he has taught me this day, ‘All wealth I bestowed upon them is lawful. I have created all of My servants upon a natural disposition to incline towards worshipping Me alone, but devils come to them and turn them away from their religion (of pure Islamic monotheism). They make unlawful what has been made lawful for them, and they command them to associate partners with Me for which no authority has been revealed’. [Ṣaḥeeh Muslim 2865]

Tarot Reading and Knowledge of The Unseen

Allaah (The Most High) said: [وَعِنْدَهُ مَفَاتِحُ الْغَيْبِ لَا يَعْلَمُهَا إِلَّا هُوَ – And with Him are the keys of the Ghaib (all that is hidden), none knows them but He].

In his explanation of the above Ayah, Imaam Ash-Shanqeetee (may Allaah have mercy upon him] brought a number of robust proofs to demonstrate and establish that even the most knowledgeable amongst the creation- Allaah’s Messengers and Angels-do not posses knowledge of the Unseen. The Imaam [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said:

Proof A: Aa’isha (may Allah be pleased with her] was falsely accused and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] did not know whether she was innocent or not until Allaah informed him, saying: [ أُولَٰئِكَ مُبَرَّءُونَ مِمَّا يَقُولُونَ- ‘Such (good people) are innocent of (each and every) bad statement which they say].

Proof B: Prophet Ibraaheem (peace be upon him) slaughtered a lamb for the angels, whilst not knowing that they were angels until they informed him that they were angels. Allaah said that the angels said to him: [إِنَّا أُرْسِلْنَا إِلَىٰ قَوْمِ لُوطٍ – We have been sent against the people of Lout (Lot). (11:70)]

Proof C: When the angels came to Prophet Lut (peace be upon him), he did not know that they were angels, and due to that Allaah said: [عَصِيبٌ سِيءَ بِهِمْ وَضَاقَ بِهِمْ ذَرْعًا وَقَالَ هَٰذَا يَوْمٌ – He was grieved on their account and felt himself straitened for them (lest the town people should approach them to commit lewdness with them). He said: This is a distressful day]. And because of this Allaah said that lut said: [لَوْ أَنَّ لِي بِكُمْ قُوَّةً أَوْ آوِي إِلَىٰ رُكْنٍ شَدِيدٍ – Would that I had strength (men) to overpower you, or that I could betake myself to some powerful support (to resist you). (11:80)]. He did not know the news the angels brought until they said to him: [إِنَّا رُسُلُ رَبِّكَ لَنْ يَصِلُوا إِلَيْكَ – Verily, we are the Messengers from your Lord!]

Proof D: Prophet Ya’qoob (peace be upon him) lost his eye sight due to grieving for Yusuf (peace be upon him), whilst he was in Egypt. He did not know anything about Yusuf until Allaah reveal news about him.

Proof E: Prophet Sulaymaan (peace be upon him), even though Allaah gave him authority over the devils and subjugated the wind in his service, did not know about the people Bil Qees until the Hud’hud came with news about them. Allaah said that the Hud’hud said: [أَحَطْتُ بِمَا لَمْ تُحِطْ بِهِ وَجِئْتُكَ مِنْ سَبَإٍ بِنَبَإٍ يَقِينٍ – I have grasped (the knowledge of a thing) which you have not grasped and I have come to you from Saba’ (Sheba) with true news].

Proof F: Prophet Nuh (peace be upon him) did not know that his son – who was drowned- was not from those members of his household who were to be saved, as Allaah said that Nuh said: [رَبِّ إِنَّ ابْنِي مِنْ أَهْلِي وَإِنَّ وَعْدَكَ الْحَقُّ – O my Lord! Verily, my son is of my family! And certainly, Your Promise is true.(11:45)]

He did not know the reality of the affair until Allaah informed him, saying:

[بِهِ عِلْمٌ ۖ إِنِّي أَعِظُكَ أَنْ تَكُونَ مِنَ الْجَاهِلِينَ قَالَ يَا نُوحُ إِنَّهُ لَيْسَ مِنْ أَهْلِكَ ۖ إِنَّهُ عَمَلٌ غَيْرُ صَالِحٍ ۖ فَلَا تَسْأَلْنِ مَا لَيْسَ لَكَ – He said: “O Nuh (Noah)! Surely, he is not of your family; verily, his work is unrighteous, so ask not of Me that of which you have no knowledge! I admonish you, lest you be one of the ignorant].

And indeed Allaah (The Most High) also stated in Surah Hud about Nuh that he said to his people: [وَلَا أَقُولُ لَكُمْ عِنْدِي خَزَائِنُ اللَّهِ وَلَا أَعْلَمُ الْغَيْبَ -And I do not say to you that with me are the Treasures of Allah, “Nor that I know the Ghaib (unseen)].

Proof G: And when Allaah said to the Angels: [هَٰؤُلَاءِ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ صَادِقِينَ أَنْبِئُونِي بِأَسْمَاءِ -Tell Me the names of these if you are truthful]; Allaah said that the angels replied: [قَالُوا سُبْحَانَكَ لَا عِلْمَ لَنَا إِلَّا مَا عَلَّمْتَنَا -They (angels) said: “Glory be to You, we have no knowledge except what you have taught us.

Therefore, it is very clear that the most knowledgeable amongst the creation, the Messengers and the Angels, do not know anything of the unseen except what Allaah makes known to them. Allaah (The Most High) informs His Messengers what He wishes from the knowledge of the Unseen, as Allaah stated:

[وَمَا كَانَ اللَّهُ لِيُطْلِعَكُمْ عَلَى الْغَيْبِ وَلَٰكِنَّ اللَّهَ يَجْتَبِي مِنْ رُسُلِهِ مَنْ يَشَاءُ ۖ- Nor will Allah disclose to you the secrets of the Ghaib (unseen), but Allah chooses of His Messengers whom He pleases].

And Allaah said: [إِلَّا مَنِ ارْتَضَىٰ مِنْ رَسُولٍ عَالِمُ الْغَيْبِ فَلَا يُظْهِرُ عَلَىٰ غَيْبِهِ أَحَد- (He Alone) the All-Knower of the Gha’ib (unseen), and He reveals to none His Gha’ib (unseen).” Except to a Messenger (from mankind)…(3)

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “Sincerity to Allaah in worship and pure Islamic monotheism is a tree in the heart, its branches are the (good) deeds and its fruits is the good life in this world and everlasting bliss in the afterlife. And just as the fruits of Paradise are neither cut off (by change of season) nor are they out of reach, likewise this is the case with the fruits of pure Islamic monotheism and sincerity to Allaah in worship. Shirk, lies and showoff is a tree in the heart, its fruits – in the worldly life- are fear and anxiety, grief and distress in the soul and oppression against the heart. Its fruits in the afterlife are the tree of Zaqqoom and an everlasting punishment. And Allaah has mentioned these two trees in Surah Ibraaheem:

See you not how Allaah sets forth a parable? A goodly word as a goodly tree, whose root is firmly fixed, and its branches (reach) to the sky (i.e. very high). Giving its fruits at all times, by the Leave of its Lord, and Allaah sets forth parables for mankind in order that they may remember. And the parable of an evil word is that of an evil tree uprooted from the surface of earth, having no stability. [Surah Ibraaheem. Aayaat 24-26] (4)

Salafiyyah, Its Scholars, Students and Adherents Are Alive – Neither Lost In The East and West, Nor Can It Be Obscured By Haddaadiyyah and Tamayyu

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Scholars Who Revive Every Hundred Years

The Prophet [peace and blessings be upon him] said, “Allaah will raise for this Ummah at the end of every hundred years the one who will revive its religion for it”. (1)

“Allaah will raise for this Ummah”– Meaning the Ummatul Ijaabah [i.e. the Muslims]. “At the end of every hundred years”– Meaning at the end of every hundred years when there is little knowledge of the Sharee’ah and the authentic Prophetic Tradition, whilst ignorance and religious innovation is rife. “One who will revive its religion for it”– Meaning a scholar who is alive and well known. He will clarify the authentic Prophetic Tradition and distinguish it from the religious innovations. knowledge will be abundant again and its adherents will be aided, and the proponents of religious will be overcome and degraded. This reviver is non else but a scholar who has sound understanding of the religious sciences that deal with acts of worship, the underlying wisdoms of the religion and the texts that deal with beliefs of the heart. (2)

Imaam Ibn Katheer [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “A group amongst the scholars- including Ahmad Bin Hanbal – stated that Umar Bin Abdul Azeez was alive at the end of the first hundred years and he is more worthy and entitled to be entered into this category of people due to his leadership and striving to establish truth”. (3)

Islamic Awakening

Al-Allaamah Saaleh Al-Fawzaan [may Allaah preserve him] said:

All the praises and thanks be to Allaah- the Lord of the worlds- and may peace and blessings [of Allaah] be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family and companions. To proceed: Islamic Awakening did not [only] occur in these times or this era, rather it began from that time [in which] Allaah sent His Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] with the Religion of Islaam and the people embraced it in crowds and groups. Good – and all the praises and thanks be to Allaah – has not ceased to continue in this Ummah, as the Prophet said: ‘’There will not cease to be a group amongst my Ummah manifest [upon the truth]. They will neither be harmed by those who forsake them nor by those who oppose them until the command of Allaah come to pass [i.e. the day of judgement] whilst they are upon that.’’

Although the struggle between truth and falsehood continues, there has not ceased to be callers to the truth and its helpers- [those who] follow the correct methodology and stand up to call to it. The Ummah has not – in [any] era [during] the various eras- been all asleep or misguided to the extent that a group arose giving itself a name or a name other than it [such as] ‘Islamic Awakening’, because the meaning of this is that all the Islamic World was misguided before these people [began] the awakening. This opposes the statement of his, “There will not cease to be a group amongst my Ummah manifest upon the truth’’, and his statement, ‘’My Ummah will never unite upon misguidance.’’

Indeed, this [Islamic Awakening] is commended and safe from criticism when carried out upon the methodology of the righteous callers and that of the pious predecessors- based on the Book of Allaah, the [authentic] Sunnah and that which the pious predecessors of this Ummah were upon, and far removed from affiliations that are in opposition to the methodology of the pious predecessors. Its aim should be acquaintance with the truth- to act and call to it; acquaintance with falsehood- to avoid and warn against it. Its aim cannot be for seeking leadership or ascendancy in the earth, revolt against the Ja’maa’ah of the Muslims and disobedience to [the Muslim Rulers]. Indeed, this is neither the correct methodology of Dawah nor is it that of the pious predecessors; rather it is the methodology of the Khawaarij and the Mutazilah-those who have deviated from the methodology of the Book, the [authentic] Sunnah and that which the pious predecessors were upon. Indeed, [these deviants] were a disgrace in Islamic History and a wound in the body of the Ummah. We ask Allaah to guide the misguided Muslims to correctness. (4)

The Taa’ifatul Mansoorah

The Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said, “There will not cease to be a group amongst my Ummah upon the truth; neither will they be harmed by those who betray them nor those who oppose them until the command of Allaah arrives [i.e. the day of judgement]”. [Bukhaari]

Al-Allaamah Saaleh Al-Fawzaan [may Allaah preserve him] says: This group will not cease to exist in the Ummah. The Ummah will not be deprived of this Sunni Group. This Taa’ifah can be one group. If it adheres to the Qur’aan and the Sunnah, it is the Taa’ifah Al-Mansoorah [The Victorious Group], even if it is only one. The Ummah will not lose this Sunni Group, this good group, and all praise be to Allaah – until the command of Allaah comes to pass [i.e. the day of judgment]. ‘They will not be harmed by those who forsake them’. Amongst the people are those who forsake them and those who oppose them, but they will not be harmed. This is from Allaah’s Grace upon His servants and that He will establish the truth for the one who aids the truth and call to it, even if evil is rife. There will be those who adhere to good, call to it and disseminate it amongst the people. Not all the Ummah will be misguided, but some will remain upon truth, but they might be strangers [i.e. their affair will be strange to the people], just as the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said, “Islam began as a strange thing and it will return as a strange thing, and glad tidings to the strangers”, so they said, ‘Who are the strangers O Messenger of Allaah? He said, ‘They are those who will be upright when the people become corrupt’.. and in another version of this hadeeth, “Those who rectify what the people have corrupted’. These are the strangers, because the majority of the people oppose them, belittle, forsake and keep away from what they are upon, but this will not harm them, “They will never be harmed by those who forsake them nor by those who oppose them’. Allaah will make them remain so that His Proofs remain amongst the creation until the end of time. This group might be in the East, the West, or the North etc…They are not in a specific place, but they are present. Whoever wants will find it. It is present and all praise is due to Allaah. Alhamdulil laah, we – at present – are upon a correct methodology, upon a sound methodology; our methodology is that which the Qur’aan and sunnah necessitate, our learning is based upon the Qur’aan and the Sunnah. We study Tafseer, hadeeth and its explanation, the Aqeedah of the pious predecessors and that which they were upon. Alhamadulil laah at present we are upon a correct path, a sound methodology and straight path. We ask Allaah to keep us firm upon it until we meet him, neither substituting nor changing it. (5)

The Truth Will Not Be Lost

Al-Allaamah Rabee Bin Haadee [may Allaah preserve him] was asked: Shaikh Al-Albaanee, Shaikh Ibn Baaz and Shaikh Uthaymeen have passed away, so who remains from the scholars?

Answer: Those who remain are numerous and all praise is due to Allaah. The Messenger of Allaah [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] died and his noble companions [may Allaah be pleased with them] remained. Ahmad Ibn Hanbal and his companions [may Allaah have mercy upon them] remained. Ibn Taymiyyah [may Allaah have mercy upon him] died and his companions [may Allaah have mercy upon them] remained. Ibn Abdul Wahhaab [may Allaah have mercy upon him] died and his companions [may Allaah have mercy upon them] remained. And those ones [i.e. Albaanee, Ibn Baaz, Uthaymeen] died and their students and brothers remain by Allaah’s Will. The truth will not be lost.

When Umar [may Allaah be pleased with him] was stabbed, it was said to him, “Appoint a successor!” He said, “Allaah will not allow His Religion to be lost”. So by Allaah this Religion will never be lost. It is upon you to put shoulder to shoulder and embark upon work-raise the flag of the (authentic) Sunnah and the flag of the truth. “There will not cease to be a group amongst my Ummah manifest upon the truth-neither will they be harmed by those who betray them nor by those who oppose them till Allaah’s promise come to pass (i.e. the day of Judgement)”. By Allaah! Neither knowledge nor the committee of senior scholars have died-all praise is due to Allaah-and there is good and blessing with them. Our Salafi brothers are in the different regions of the world. The world is filled with senior students of knowledge who fill this gap-all praise is due to Allaah. Therefore, neither can the people of falsehood rejoice nor become happy. (6)

The Basis of Sins, Misguidance, Transgression, Bloodshed (Wars) and Lying (Disinformation) In Our Era

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

The Three Basis of All Sins

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said:

The basis of all sins – major and minor – are three: the heart’s attachment to other than Allaah, going along with the intense strength of one’s anger and the intense urge of one’s desires. These three affairs constitute shirk, injustice and indecency. Ascribing partners to Allaah and invoking other than Allaah is the ultimate affair related to the heart’s attachment to other than Allaah, murder is the ultimate affair related to going along with one’s intense anger and fornication is the ultimate affair related to going along with the intense urge of one’s desires. And because this Allaah mentioned the three together in the (following) Aayah: [وَٱلَّذِينَ لَا يَدۡعُونَ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَـٰهًا ءَاخَرَ وَلَا يَقۡتُلُونَ ٱلنَّفۡسَ ٱلَّتِى حَرَّمَ ٱللَّهُ إِلَّا بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَلَا يَزۡنُونَ – And those who invoke not any other ilah (god) along with Allah, nor kill such life as Allah has forbidden, except for just cause, nor commit illegal sexual intercourse]. [Surah Al-Furqaan. Aayah 68]

These three affairs invite to one another – Shirk inevitably leads to injustice and indecency, just as Tawheed [pure Islamic Monotheism] and Ikhlaas [sincerity] turns a person away from them. Allaah [The Exalted] stated about Prophet Yusuf [peace be upon him]: [ڪَذَٲلِكَ لِنَصۡرِفَ عَنۡهُ ٱلسُّوٓءَ وَٱلۡفَحۡشَآءَ‌ۚ إِنَّهُ ۥ مِنۡ عِبَادِنَا ٱلۡمُخۡلَصِينَ – Thus it was, that We might turn away from him evil and indecency. Surely, he was one of Our chosen, guided slaves. [Surah Yusuf. Aayah 24] – Meaning, turned him away from infatuation and illegal sexual intercourse.

Likewise, injustice inevitably leads to Shirk and indecency, because Shirk is the greatest injustice, just as Tawheed is the greatest justice. Justice is a companion of Tawheed and injustice is a companion of Shirk, and this is why Allaah mentioned both together.

As for Tawheed and justice, Allaah said: [شَهِدَ ٱللَّهُ أَنَّهُ ۥ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ وَٱلۡمَلَـٰٓٮِٕكَةُ وَأُوْلُواْ ٱلۡعِلۡمِ قَآٮِٕمَۢا بِٱلۡقِسۡطِ – Allah bears witness that Laa ilaaha illaa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He), and the angels, and those having knowledge (also give this witness); (He is always) maintaining His creation in Justice]. [Surah Aal Imraan. Aayah 18]
As for injustice and Shirk, Allaah said: [إِنَّ ٱلشِّرۡكَ لَظُلۡمٌ عَظِيمٌ۬ – Verily, Shirk is great injustice]. [Surah Luqmaan. Aayah 13]

Indecency leads to Shirk and Injustice, especially when there is a strong desire which cannot be reached except through some type of injustice, such as seeking help through magic and shaytaan. And indeed Allaah mentioned both fornication and Shirk together in the Aayah:

ٱلزَّانِى لَا يَنكِحُ إِلَّا زَانِيَةً أَوۡ مُشۡرِكَةً۬ وَٱلزَّانِيَةُ لَا يَنكِحُهَآ إِلَّا زَانٍ أَوۡ مُشۡرِكٌ۬‌ۚ وَحُرِّمَ ذَٲلِكَ عَلَى ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ

The adulterer marries not but an adulteress, or a female polytheist and the adulteress none marries her except an adulterer or a male polytheist [and that means that the man who agrees to marry (have a sexual relation with) a female polytheist, pagan or idolatress) or a prostitute, then surely he is either an adulterer, or a polytheist)]. And the woman who agrees to marry (have a sexual relation with) a male polytheist or an adulterer, then she is either a prostitute or a female polytheist)]. Such a thing is forbidden to the believers [of Islamic Monotheism]. [Surah An-Noor. Aayah 3]

These three affairs [i.e. Shirk, Indecency and Injustice] can either be the cause of one another or inevitably lead to one another. And this is why whenever Tawheed in the heart is weaker and the Shirk in it is greater, it commits more indecency, becomes stronger in its attachment to images and infatuated with them. And what is similar to this is the statement of Allaah:

So whatever you have been given is but a passing enjoyment for this worldly life, but that which is with Allah (Paradise) is better and more lasting for those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah Islamic Monotheism) and put their trust in their Lord (concerning all of their affairs). And those who avoid the greater sins and indecency, and when they are angry, they forgive. [Surah Ash-Shooraa. Aayaat 36-37]

Allaah informed us that what He has with Him is better for the one who believes in Him and relies upon him, and that is Tawheed. Then Allaah said: [وَٱلَّذِينَ يَجۡتَنِبُونَ كَبَـٰٓٮِٕرَ ٱلۡإِثۡمِ وَٱلۡفَوَٲحِشَ – And those who avoid the greater sins and indecency] – Meaning, avoid the intense urge towards lowly desires. Then Allaah said: [وَإِذَا مَا غَضِبُواْ هُمۡ يَغۡفِرُونَ – And when they are angry, they pardon]. This opposes the intense strength of anger; so Allaah mentioned Tawheed, pardon and justice together, and they are that which gathers every good. (1)

Misguidance

The Imaam [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said:

Misguidance necessitates extreme wicked behaviour, pride and lying, and this has been mentioned a lot in the Qur’aan. Allaah [The Exalted]:

Verily, Allah is not ashamed to set forth a parable even of a mosquito or so much more when it is bigger (or less when it is smaller) than it. And as for those who believe, they know that it is the Truth from their Lord, but as for those who disbelieve, they say: “What did Allah intend by this parable?” By it He misleads many, and many He guides thereby. And He misleads thereby only those who are Al-Fasiqun (the rebellious, disobedient to Allah). Those who break Allah’s Covenant after ratifying it, and sever what Allah has ordered to be joined (as regards Allah’s Religion of Islamic Monotheism, and to practise its legal laws on the earth and also as regards keeping good relations with kith and kin ), and do mischief on earth, it is they who are the losers. [Surah Al-Baqarah. Aayaat 26-27]

And Allaah [The Exalted] said: [وَنُقَلِّبُ أَفۡـِٔدَتَہُمۡ وَأَبۡصَـٰرَهُمۡ كَمَا لَمۡ يُؤۡمِنُواْ بِهِۦۤ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ۬ – And We shall turn their hearts and their eyes away (from guidance), as they refused to believe therein for the first time.. [Surah Al-An-aam. Aayah 110]

Allaah informed us that He punished them due to their (wilful) failure to accept faith when it came to them and they recognised it, (but they) turned away from it. So, Allaah turned their hearts and eyes away and prevented them from it, just as Allaah [The Exalted] said:

O you who believe! Answer Allah (by obeying Him) and (His) Messenger when he (Muhammad) calls you to that which will give you life, and know that Allah comes in between a person and his heart (i.e. He prevents an evil person to decide anything). And verily to Him you shall (all) be gathered. [Surah Al-Anfaal. Aayah 24]

Allaah commanded them to respond to Him and His Messenger when they are called to that which will give them life [i.e. faith by way of which the hearts are guided to the right path and righteous deeds in all affairs of life], then he warned them against turning away and being delayed from responding [to His call and that of His Messenger], as a result of which their hearts would be prevented from accepting faith. Allaah said [The Exalted] said: [فَلَمَّا زَاغُوٓاْ أَزَاغَ ٱللَّهُ قُلُوبَهُمۡ‌ۚ وَٱللَّهُ لَا يَہۡدِى ٱلۡقَوۡمَ ٱلۡفَـٰسِقِينَ – So when they turned away (from the Path of Allah), Allah turned their hearts away (from the Right Path). And Allah guides not the people who are Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient to Allah)]. [Surah As-Saff. Aayah 5]

Allaah said: [The Exalted] said: [كَلَّا‌ۖ بَلۡۜ رَانَ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِہِم مَّا كَانُواْ يَكۡسِبُونَ – Nay! But on their hearts is the Ran (covering of sins and evil deeds) which they used to earn. [Surah Al-Mutaffifeen. Aayah 14]

Allaah informed us that the evil they earned sealed their hearts and became a barrier between them and belief in Allaah’s Aayaat, as Allaah stated that they said: [أَسَـٰطِيرُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ – Tales of the ancients! (i.e. the Aayaat of Allaah conveyed by the Messengers are nothing but tales of the ancients)].

And Allaah [The Exalted] said about the hypocrites: [نَسُواْ ٱللَّهَ فَنَسِيَہُمۡ‌ۗ – They have forgotten Allaah, so He has forgotten them. (i.e. prevented them from His guidance and mercy)]. [Surah At-tawbah. Aayah 67]

Allaah recompensed them for forgetting Him, so He did not mention them with guidance and mercy. Allaah informed us that He made them forget themselves, so that they did not seek to perfect their souls through beneficial knowledge and righteous deeds- which is guidance and the religion of truth; made them forgetful of seeking after [guidance and the religion of truth], love of Him, knowledge and awareness of Him and being eager for it, as a punishment upon them for forgetting Him. He [The Exalted] said regarding them:

أُوْلَـٰٓٮِٕكَ ٱلَّذِينَ طَبَعَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِہِمۡ وَٱتَّبَعُوٓاْ أَهۡوَآءَهُمۡ
وَٱلَّذِينَ ٱهۡتَدَوۡاْ زَادَهُمۡ هُدً۬ى وَءَاتَٮٰهُمۡ تَقۡوَٮٰهُمۡ

Such are men whose hearts Allah has sealed, and they follow their lusts (evil desires). While as for those who accept guidance, He increases their guidance, and bestows on them their piety. [Surah Muhammad. Aayaat 16-17]
They were recompensed with a combination of Ittibaa Al-Hawaa (following desires) and Dalaal (misguidance) – the (evil) fruits of following desires and its inevitable outcome, just as the people of guidance are (recompensed) with a combination of Taqwaa (Fear of Allaah) and Hudaa (upright guidance). (2)

Lying [Disinformation]

The Imaam [may Allaah have mercy upon him] also said: Beware of kadhib (lying), because indeed it corrupts one’s ability to illustrate information based on what it should be in reality; corrupts one’s ability to illustrate information and his ability to teach the people. The liar portrays what is non-existent as something present and what is present as something non-existent. He portrays truth as something false and falsehood as something true; portrays good as evil and evil as good, so this corrupts his conception and knowledge, which then becomes a punishment upon him. Then he portrays what is not true to the one deceived by him – the one inclined towards him- and thus corrupts his conception and knowledge. The soul of the liar turns away from the existing reality -inclined towards what is non-existent and gives preference to falsehood. And when his conception and knowledge is corrupted, which is the basis of every wilful chosen deed, his deeds become corrupt and are marked by lies, and thus those deeds would emanate from him just as lies emanate from the tongue. He neither benefits from his tongue nor his deeds. This is why lying is the basis [or foundation] of immorality, just as the Prophet said, “Indeed lies lead to immorality [or wickedness] and indeed immorality [or wickedness] leads to the fire. [Bukhaari 2606/2607]

Firstly, lies emerges from the heart and then on the tongue, so it corrupts it; then it transfers to the limbs and corrupts its actions, just as it corrupts the statements of the tongue. So, it prevails over his statements, deeds and state of affairs; corruption becomes deeply rooted in him and its disease leads to destruction if Allaah does not grant him cure with the medication of truthfulness, which uproots it [i.e. lying] from its original source. This is why the basis [or foundation] of all the deeds of the hearts is based on truthfulness, and the basis of their opposites – such as showing off, self-amazement, pride, being glad [with ungratefulness to Allaah’s Favours], conceitedness, boastfulness, insolence, weakness, laziness, cowardice, disgrace and other than them- is lies. The origin of every righteous deed- whether carried out in private or public- is based on truthfulness; and the origin of every corrupt deed – whether carried out in private or public- is lies.

Allaah punishes the liar by preventing him from those affairs that will bring him well-being and benefit, and He rewards the truthful one by granting him the ability to attain the beneficial affairs related to the worldly life and afterlife. There is nothing similar to truthfulness with regards to the manner in which it brings about the affairs of well-being in this life and the next, and there is nothing similar to lying with regards to the manner in which it corrupts and harms one’s worldly affairs and the afterlife”. (3)

Confused About The True Purpose of This Worldly Life or Deprived of Sound Contemplation Regarding It

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

Certainly! Allah will admit those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah Islamic Monotheism) and do righteous good deeds, to Gardens under which rivers flow (Paradise), while those who disbelieve enjoy themselves and eat as cattle eat, and the Fire will be their abode. [Surah Muhammad. Aayah 12]

Meaning, they eat and are heedless of the consequences of their final affair (4); enjoy their worldly life and eat therein like animals, munching and gnawing (with overindulgence), whilst having no concern other than that (5); animals eat and drink, and they are not aware of tomorrow; likewise the disbeliever does not give thought to the Hereafter (6); their utmost concern is to enjoy themselves with the pleasures of this worldly life and its desires, so you find that both their apparent and hidden pursuits revolves around this. (7)

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said: A desire for the Hereafter cannot be achieved except by way of abstinence from the (forbidden or excessive things) of the worldly life, and abstinence cannot be accomplished except by way of contemplation in two ways:

The First Contemplation: contemplation on the worldly life – its quick passage, disappearance, deficiency and low value, its hassles, ordeals, frustrations and troubles, and the end result is that it will finally come to an end, together with loss and regret. Therefore, its seeker [i.e. the one who seeks after it in a blameworthy manner] is neither safeguarded from grief before and after attaining it, nor after it vanishes. This is the first contemplation.

The Second Contemplation: Contemplation on the Hereafter – its closeness [i.e. not very far away], its definite arrival and occurrence, permanent [existence after it takes place], the nobility of the good and happiness it contains, and the difference between it and this worldly life, just as Allaah [Glorified be He and free is He from all imperfections] said: [وَٱلۡأَخِرَةُ خَيۡرٌ۬ وَأَبۡقَىٰٓ – Although the Hereafter is better and more lasting] [Surah Al-A’laa Ayah 17]. It is a perfect and abiding [enjoyment, happiness, bliss etc], but the [worldly pleasures] are deficient and will come to an end.

If a person accomplishes these two contemplations, he’ll prefer what sound intellect gives precedence and refrain from what one should refrain from [i.e. everything in this worldly life that diverts a person from obedience to Allaah and leads to what is forbidden]. Everyone is naturally disposed (to the fact that he or she) does not abandon an immediate benefit and a reachable pleasure, whilst (waiting) for a delayed benefit and an absent pleasure whose [arrival is certainly] expected, except when one’s desire for what is loftier and more virtuous is stronger and the virtue of what is awaited over what is immediately present is manifest.

However, if a person prefers what is deficient and will [eventually] cease to exist [i.e. this worldly life], then that is either because the virtue of [the Hereafter] is not manifested to him or due to a lack of desiring what is more virtuous. Both these two states are an indication of weakness in faith, intellect and clear-sightedness, because indeed the one who desires the worldly life -the one who gives it precedence and is eager for it, either he testifies that there is what is more virtuous and everlasting, or he does not testify. If he does not testify [i.e. that the Hereafter is more virtuous and everlasting], he is completely devoid of faith; however, if he testifies to that [i.e. that the Hereafter is more virtuous and everlasting] but does not give it precedence, his intellect is corrupt and he has made an evil choice for himself. These two [testimonies] are inevitable and a servant of Allaah cannot escape them, because giving precedence to the worldly life over the Hereafter is either due to corruption in faith or due to corruption of one’s intellect, and in many cases both of them are combined together in a person.

And because of this the Messenger of Allaah [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] and his companions [may Allaah be pleased with them] turned away from the worldly life and turned their hearts away from it [i.e. they only took what sufficed their needs and did not fall into any blameworthy deeds due to it]. The Messenger said, “What is the world to me? What am I to the world? Verily, the example of this world and myself is that of a rider who seeks shade under a tree, then he moves on and leaves it behind”. [Reported by Imaam Ahmad 3701 and others]

The Messenger said, “What is the example of this worldly life in comparison to the Hereafter other than one of you dipping his finger in the sea? Let him see what he brings forth.” [Reported by Imaam Muslim 2858]
Allaah [The Most High] said:

Verily the likeness of (this) worldly life is as the water (rain) which We send down from the sky, so by it arises the intermingled produce of the earth of which men and cattle eat until when the earth is clad with its adornments and is beautified, and its people think that they have all the powers of disposal over it, Our Command reaches it by night or by day and We make it like a clean-mown harvest, as if it had not flourished yesterday! Thus do We explain the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, laws, etc.) in detail for the people who reflect. Allah calls to the home of peace (i.e. Paradise, by accepting Allah’s religion of Islamic Monotheism and by doing righteous good deeds and abstaining from polytheism and evil deeds) and guides whom He wills to a Straight Path. [Surah Yoonus Aayaat 24-25]

Allaah [The Most High] said:

And put forward to them the example of the life of this world, it is like the water (rain) which We send down from the sky, and the vegetation of the earth mingles with it, and becomes fresh and green. But (later) it becomes dry and broken pieces, which the winds scatter. And Allah is Able to do everything. Wealth and children are the adornment of the life of this world. But the good righteous deeds (five compulsory prayers, deeds of Allah’s obedience, good and nice talk, remembrance of Allah with glorification, praises and thanks, etc.), that last, are better with your Lord for rewards and better in respect of hope. [Soorah Al-Kahf’ Aayaat 45-46]

Allaah [The Most High] said:

Know that the life of this world is only play and amusement, pomp and mutual boasting among you, and rivalry in respect of wealth and children, as the likeness of vegetation after rain, thereof the growth is pleasing to the tiller; afterwards it dries up and you see it turning yellow; then it becomes straw. But in the Hereafter (there is) a severe torment (for the disbelievers, evil-doers), and (there is) Forgiveness from Allah and (His) Good Pleasure (for the believers, good-doers), whereas the life of this world is only a deceiving enjoyment. [Soorah Al-Hadeed’ Aayah 57] (8)

The Solution

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said: The Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] gathered between fear of Allaah and good manners because fear of Allaah rectifies the (relationship) between a person and his Lord, and good manners rectifies the (relationship) between a person and Allaah’s servants. Fear of Allaah makes a person deserving of Allaah’s love and good manners brings about the love of the people for him. (9)
